The document summarizes the results of a questionnaire given to teenagers about media pressures on body image. Key findings include:
- All participants were female, as the target audience was teenage girls. Most participants were ages 17-19.
- All participants felt that the media puts pressure on teenage girls to look a certain way and that they had personally felt this pressure.
- All agreed that girls experience more pressure than boys around appearance from the media.
- Social media was seen as promoting the most pressure through unrealistic body standards on platforms like Instagram and Twitter.
- Beauty vloggers on YouTube were seen as mostly promoting self-confidence, though one participant disagreed.
- Most participants desired to look

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2. 1. Gender
Female
Male
-When asking this question in the questionnaires, all participants were female, leaving no
males.
-We purposely did this as our target audience are females so we wanted to get as much
appropriate detail as we could from our target audience.
-The views and opinions that we gained back from our questionnaires were female based
due to every participant being a female.
3. 2. Age
11 to 13
14 to 16
17 to 19
20 plus
-The people we asked were mainly 17 to 19 years old, as we asked a lot of people in the
college.
-We purposely did not ask people that were ages 20 plus as our target audience were just
teenagers, so we stuck to people that would be essential for our research.
-The views and opinions that we gained back from our questionnaires were a mixture of
ages from 11 to 19, which is very helpful for us as this is the ages within our target
audience.
4. 3. Do you think there is lot of pressure
on teenage girls to look a certain way
from the media?
Yes
No
-This was a question where all participants shared the same view point that they thought
girls were definitely being pressured by the media on their appearance.
-This shows a clear view that could be represented to the rest of the population as all of our
participants said ‘yes’, making the question more reliable.
5. 4. Have you ever felt this pressure
yourself?
Yes
No
-Again this is a question that everyone shares the same viewpoint, which would make the
answers to the question reliable, and also representable to the rest of the population
within the ages of people that we have asked.
6. 5. Do you think boys or girls struggle
more with pressure on appearance
from the media?
Girls
Boys
-Again this is a question that everyone shares the same viewpoint, which would make the
answers to the question reliable, and also representable to the rest of the population
within the ages of people that we have asked.
-This is a vital question that we asked as it supports the overall argument of who faces
pressure from the media the most, as all of our participants said girls. This gave us the idea
of having the running theme of an ‘argument’ through the documentary, to show people’s
viewpoints making the documentary reliable and honest.
7. 6. Which form of media do you think
promotes this kind of pressure the
most?
Magazines
Social Media
TV Advertisements
General TV
Other
-This highlights different aspects of the media is causing pressure.
8. 7. Can you give a specific example of
where you see this kind of pressure
the most?
Hating on celebrities'
bodies
Feeling insecure
when seeing flawless,
photoshopped
models
Comparing people's
bodies
Magazines
Twitter: Mocking eachother's
bodies
All: Filters and editing apps make
people seem to be the 'ideal',
increasing followers and likes.
All: Gaining fame because of
attractiveness
Instagram: Mock accounts to
highlight attractive people
Facebook/Instagram: Attractive
celebrities make people feel
insecure
Twitter: Pro-men accounts such
as 'MeninistTweet'
-We asked this question as it gave evidence to use in our documentary of where people
have actually witnessed pressure from the media. We can in-cooperate these things into
our documentary which further adds people’s real, true views and opinions.
Social Media
9. 8. Do you watch beauty/fashion
vloggers on YouTube?
Yes
No
-This question again shows the reliability of the question as nearly all of the people have
said that they watch vloggers, which is helpful for our documentary as it supports our
argument when we speak about how vloggers help people’s self esteem and confidence.
10. 9. Do you think they promote self-
confidence for the girls that watch
these videos?
Yes
No
-Again this supports the argument about how some aspects of the media are good for teenager
as 90% of the people that we asked said they help people with their self esteem and confidence.
-With the person that said no made us think it would be helpful for us to interview an actual
week known YouTube vlogger themselves that could close any accusations made about vloggers.
11. 10. Name a celebrity or someone in
the public eye you desire to look like
the most?
• Jennifer Lawrence
• Beyoncé
• Ariana Grande
• Amanda Seyfried
• Rihanna
• Kim Kardashian
• Kendell Jenner
-This question clearly suggests
the people that our
participants find attractive,
which has a clear trend such as
body shapes, careers etc.
12. 12. Have you ever wished that you
looked like this person instead of how
you look?
Yes
No
-This shows people are not fully confident in their own skin and wish to look like someone of
whom they find attractive.
13. 13. Why did you choose this person?
Intelligence
Natural beauty
Talented
Nice figure
Confidence
Dress sense
-This shows the different aspects that people desire about other people, showing areas that
people may be pressured because of the media.
14. 14. Which size (clothes) category do
you think is represented as the most
desirable by the media?
6 to 8
10 to 12
14 plus
-Shockingly, most people said the most desirable size is 6 to 8 which is very small sizes,
particularly within the model industry. People seem to be looking at models and thinking that is
the size people should be, especially how the media suggests that size 12 is a ‘plus model’!
-This suggests how body image is pressuring teenagers from the media greatly.
