Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Before I started with my pre- production I needed to gather
more information about my target audience to allow myself
to create the best possible product. My survey was sent out
to my peers and 10 of them responded to the survey that I
created. In this survey I asked my peers 9 questions which I
believe are relevant to the project and will allow me to gain
relevant information to help me with my documentary.
The first question that I asked was:
How old are you?
From this we can see that:
90% are within the age bracket of 16-18
10% are within the age bracket of 19-21
By asking this question it has allowed me to know
how to target the content within my documentary
to that specific age bracket within the 16-25 year
old target audience. Although the majority of my
target audience are 16-18 there is a small
percentage of people who answered my survey
who is in the older bracket of 19-21.

The next question that I asked in my survey was:
What is your gender?
From asking this question we found that:
50% of my audience is female
50% of my audience are male
By asking this question it has allowed me to see
how to target my content to any gender that my
audience may be. In the options for this answer I
also added ‘prefer not to say’ and ‘other’ as
some people are not fully comfortable saying
what their gender is or are not fully one gender
and may be multiple as that is what they are
comfortable as. Although none of my peers
chose that as an option, I chose to put that
option there in case people weren’t fully
comfortable putting it down.

For my next question I asked my target audience:
Are you a student?
From asking this we found that:
100% of my target audience are students
This allows me to gather more information about
my peers as it can allow me to see what social
grade they are in and target my content more
towards students. It also help me as I am a
student and I can have a well rounded idea of
what will work as I am within the age group and
also a student.

For my next question I asked my peers:
Do you have a job?
By asking this question it has allowed us to see that:
70% of my peers are unemployed
30% of my peers are in employment
By asking this question it allows me to see the
different social grades that are within my target
audience. Those social grades are C for people who
are within employment and for people in
unemployment they would be in social grade D.
Although this will make no changes o the content
within my documentary this has allowed me to
gather more information about my target audience.

For my next question on my survey I asked my
peers:
Have you heard of Sunderland Culture?
By asking this question we can see that:
70% of my peers have heard of Sunderland Culture
30% of my peers haven’t heard of Sunderland
Culture.
By asking this question it has allowed me to see
how many people know the client and how many
people need informing of who they are. By
knowing this information in my pitch I will now
provide information about who they are and how
they help different events around Sunderland and
the north east. I believe that this was na important
question to ask as it allows me to see if my target
audience are aware of the main client who the
product is for.

For my next question in my survey I asked:
Would you say Sunderland has culture?
By asking this question I found that:
70% said that Sunderland has culture
20% say that Sunderland has some culture but
not much
10% say Sunderland has no culture
I believe that asking this question was important
as it allows me to see what my audience think
about Sunderland overall and see if I can find
different perspectives from my audience, which
by my results I can see that I have different
opinions.

For my next question in my survey I asked:
Would you be interested in helping improving your
cities culture?
By asking this question I found that:
60% said that they would be interested in helping
with their cities culture
30% say that they might be interested in helping with
their cities culture
10% say they wouldn’t be interested in helping with
their cities culture
By asking this question this allows me to see if my
audience would be interested in helping improve
Sunderlands overall negative view that is seen all
over the north east. It also shows me If the would
like to be involved or interested in what Sunderland
Culture do within their company. As they are the
main client I believe that this was an important
question to ask.
9. Presentation title 9
For my next question in my survey I asked:
What is your favourite place in Sunderland?
By asking this question I found that people enjoy
going to:
Winter Gardens
Ryhope Graveyard
The Stadium Of Light
Greggs
The Wearmouth Bridge
I believe that asking this question was important as
it allows me to see what my audience like about
Sunderland and where their favourite place to go is.
By asking this question it has allowed me to aso get
a positive element to Sunderland as these are my
target audiences favourite places to go rather than
asking what th worst part was I decided to try and
bring some positivity to the view of Sunderland. As
my peers were able to type their own responses it
allowed me to get a wide variety of answers from
traditional areas of Sunderland like ‘The stadium of
light’ and ‘Winter gardens’ to more little areas like ‘
Ryhope Graveyard’ and ‘Greggs’
10. Presentation title 10
For my next question in my survey I asked:
Do you feel like the people of Sunderland are
involved in the culture?
By asking this question I found that:
33.3% said that the people do get involved in the
culture of Sunderland
44.4% say that people might get involved with
Sunderlands culture
22.2% say that people don’t get involved with the
culture in Sunderland
I asked this question as It allowed me to see other
peoples views on the involvement in trying to
make Sunderland culture better. It also allows the
client to see if they can help people get involved
to improve Sunderlands culture overall, which is
also feedback for the client on what they can do
to get more people involved within improving the
cities culture.
