Focus Group in Classroom
• We gathered a focus group of 10-15 people into a
classroom at the Sixth Form College Solihull and asked
them to watch our documentary on the projector.
• All were students at the college, aged 16-18.
• We then asked ten participants of this focus group to fill
out a questionnaire based on the documentary they had
just watched so that we could get feedback before we
changed anything.

Meninism
Feminism and Meninism
The fact that all members of the focus group knew what the topic of
our documentary was meant that it is clear and precise and gets
straight to the point, as the audience are aware of what information
the documentary is trying to put across.
• All members of the focus group said that they enjoyed
watching the documentary
This shows that the topic of the documentary interested the
audience and that it was entertaining to watch and
therefore, has fulfilled part of it’s purpose.
Comments included:
• “The pace was good and upbeat”
• “I liked how informative it was”
• “The commentary and visual statistics”
• “The editing was professional”
• “In some parts it was comical which drew the audience in, and
there were many varied opinions”
• “It was well executed and it flowed well”
• “It was very professional and educational”
• “There were many interesting facts”
Therefore, there are many aspects of the documentary that the
audience liked and that made it successful.
Comments included:
• “Doesn’t explore Feminism enough”
• “Sometimes it was hard to hear some people”
• “Some of the interviews were very quiet”
• “Some of the audio is too quiet”
• Many people said that they disliked “nothing”, suggesting
that they enjoyed watching our documentary
From this we are aware that there are some issues with the
sound quality and therefore we are going to work on this to
improve the sound levels so that they are easier to hear.
• All members of the focus group answered ‘Yes’ to this
question.
Therefore, this is evidence that the audience think that the
music fits well with the documentary, and therefore our use
of music does not need to change.
• All members of the target audience answered ‘Yes’ to this
question.
Therefore, this is evidence that the audience have been
educated by our documentary, and therefore has fulfilled
it’s main purpose which was to inform the audience of what
Meninism is.
• The focus group all answered ‘Yes’ to these questions.
Therefore, the audio levels and on screen text were both
clear and easy to understand and were appropriate for our
audience. This means we do not have to change anything
concerning this.
• The focus group all answered ‘Yes’ to this question.
This therefore suggests to us that the audience enjoyed the
documentary enough to want to watch a longer version of
it, which again, is evidence that the documentary was
entertaining and educational enough for them to want to
spend their time watching it. Therefore, it is ultimately
successful.

No
Most of the focus group said that the audio levels were consistent,
however, some people said that they weren’t. In terms of where in the
documentary they thought the audio levels were inconsistent, they
mentioned:
• “Some voxpops were quiet”
• “Some interviews were quiet- particularly the feminist society interview”
This therefore suggests to us that we have to change some of the
interview’s sound levels. This is what we will concentrate on before we
finish it completely.
Answers included:
• “Loved it! It was amazing!”
• “It was really intelligently designed and had a good balance
between all it’s technical aspects. You chose an interesting
topic”
• “Really professional”
• “I want to see it all! It’s good, fact filled and funny”
• “In general, it flowed well and included good factual
information and was generally easy to understand”
Therefore, the overall comments are very positive and show that
the audience enjoyed watching our documentary.
• After carrying out this audience feedback we are aware that
our documentary is successful in carrying out it’s aims (e.g:
being entertaining and informative) as well as many of it’s key
features working well and being appropriate. However, our
main concern is the audio levels and so we are now going to
work to change these and improve them.
• After making changes to the documentary, we are now going
to watch it in class and ask students to answer more
questionnaires and give us verbal feedback.
• We will also ask for feedback on the radio trailer and the
double page spread.
• We also plan to carry out some interviews with members of the
target audience and video their responses.
