2. What is audience research ?
• Audience research is useful as it helps make the media that you are making more targeted and
better suited for the audience for example you would not make a film about teenage boys in 2022
targeted for old women as it would not appeal to them this is why is it is important to research into
the demographic. Other parts of audience research include psychographics and social grade as
well as demographics. Using each of these three categories help to make a better and targeted
product that is more suited for an audience.
3. What are
demographics
?
• Demographics are a way to group
together an audience into different
groups such as age, gender, religion.
This is important information to have
as it helps as it helps me as a creator
to define the best target audience for
my project
4. My audience
demographic
s.
This is some results from my survey it
shows that the majority of people who
will be watching my documentary will
be males this means that if I do end up
doing any interviews it may be more
beneficial to interview more males than
females. My results also show that my
target audience is between the age of
17 and 18. I will use this information
and implement it into my documentary,
for example like I said before
interviewing more males than females
to appeal to that audience.
5. What are psychographics ?
• Psychographics are away to group my audience based on 7 different category's. Psychographic is
based on a persons personality, there interests and goals, each person gets put into a different
category for based on these. The category's are mainstreamers which is the largest group of
characters who tend to follow the latest trends. The next category is aspirers they are focused on
there appearance and own appearance. The 3rd category is succeeders they have strong goals
and a good work ethic. The 4th category is resigned which is typically older people who stick to the
past and traditions. The 5th category is explorers who are typically students experience is important
to them. The 6th category is strugglers they feel disorganised this is often a lower demographic.
The final category is reformers they freedom and they have social awareness and independent
judgement.
7. What is
social
grade ?
• Social grade is different category's that are determined by
a person’s income the higher the social grade the higher a
person's income. A is the highest social grade and
represents only 4% of the uk C1 the most popular social
grade in the uk is C1 which includes 29% of the uk
usually people who are lower middle class.
8. What is my
audiences
social grade
• I used my results to predict the social grade
of my audience I believe that my audience is
in category D, and E I know this because all
the results show that the are a student which
would place them into the E category as they
are not making any money or category D as
some of them are students and have a job at
the same time therefore, they would be in
category E. This has helped me get a better
understanding of the financial situation of my
audience.
