What Kind of Media Institution might
 distribute your product and why?
The Production Process
1: Thinking of ideas to produce a
magazine. Working out the audience
type, genre, content of the magazine     2: Research into possible opponents
and features to include.                 and products already in the business.
                                         Research how they are similar, what
                                         makes them successful and popular
                                         layouts/genres/styles/features etc.
3: Produce flat plans of what the
magazine may look like to set aims and
make production easier.
                                         4: Construct the product on an
                                         industrial size
5: Distribute the product to either a
large or niche audience – usually
depending on the content included.
Work out whether it is commercial or
independent.
Publishing
My target audience for my magazine is Trendie/Hipster which is an audience that
follows the latest styles of not only music, but mainly clothing. I believe that I
would have my magazine published by Conde Nast as they are a huge company
who distribute very high-standard and stylish magazines. Because my magazine is
also based around fashion along with music, I believe this company would publish
and distribute ‘Atonal’. Due to publishing my magazine, they would also be
drawing in a new audience – teenagers. Their magazines published are usually
aimed at young adults so I believe that my magazine would be aimed for them and
a new audience of teenagers. Because Conde Nast do not currently have a
magazine based around music, they would benefit hugely from publishing mine as
it is drawing a wider audience in through a new genre within the company.
Marketing
To get my magazine out there I would distribute it to major
 retailers such as Huge Supermarket chains like
 Asda, Sainsbury’s etc. I would also try and do special offers of
 the first few months in where you can buy a years
 subscription at a once-only offer. I would try to get TV
 advertisements in which I would include many Musicians and
 Artists – giving the magazine a higher reputation. Other
 magazines also use TV advertising and some even branch out
 further and use radio advertisements. Some magazines are
 connected to other magazines within their production group –
 giving off advertisements for one another.
Distribution
Due to Web 2.0 and the change in society. I
 would create a website in which users sign up
 and gain access to even more online content –
 building up a bigger audience and adding a
 wider range of people viewing. Through this
 website, I will include promotional offers and
 codes which can only be received through
 magazines so that it entices people to buy the
 magazine.
