1. Evaluation Question 1
In what ways does your media product
use, develop or challenge forms and conventions
of real media products?
2. I took the idea from the magazine VIBE which is the magazine I have looked at in my research. I have followed the colour
scheme from VIBE because the pinks reflect the feminine aurora I want to give off. I liked the professional look and so I
wanted a masthead which stood out and which was recognizable and catchy. I used a font called Book Antiqua Bold.
This is the main sell line from my magazine
and VIBE magazine, the celebrity name should stand out because they are the subject of the sell line and then to like most
magazines a little treat to what its going to be about should be quoted underneath to entice the reader.
A sell line of a recent well known situation is good to get
the readers interest for instance VIBE used the death of Amy Winehouse to do this and I’ve used the death of
Whitney Houston which is huge news in the music world.
A controversial statement will catch the readers attention because they will want to know what's going on so when
I’ve used a little battle line it will catch interest from readers. VIBE have also used this technique.
4. I have tried to represent the modern stereotype who has interest in rap, hip-hop and r&b music. Other magazines who represent this stereotype
are Vibe and Billboard. The stereotype is usually recognized by very expensive outfits and lots of ‘bling’. For the women in r&b they dress very
glamorous, they are very confident in what they do. They style themselves with earphones (Dre.Beats) and expensive sport high top
trainer, standing out is very good.
6. Production Process
Producing my media product would go through a production and publication
process, which
Follows 5 main steps, thinking up an idea of what the magazine will look like, who
the target
Audience is and what genre and content it will be.
Research into other magazines who could be of competition is important and seeing
how they appeal to an audience and why it works.
Producing flat plans is important so you have visual on how it will look.
Constructing comes next and making it on an industrial size.
Then finally distributing either to a large or niche audience depending how
commercial it is and who the audience is.
Publishing
My magazine is similar to magazines such as vibe and billboard, which are
distributed mainstream rather than niche. Therefore my product also is likely to be
distributed to a commercial audience through companies such as Beaur media.
7. Advertising My Product
I would like my product to be advertised over the internet more so through social
networking sites which are the most popular ways to promote now a days.
Facebook and Twitter are the most commonly used, a massive benefit is that this
way of advertising is cost free and very effective.
Distributing
I want my product distributed to a large mainstream audience, it would be more
suitable to do so in stores such as: WHSmith ASDA, HMV, TESCO + other super
markets. An onlikne subscription also allows loyal customers and regular readers an
easy way to get the magazine as it would be delivered to them.
9. MAKE A MOOD BOARD
My target audience isn’t small it is a very wide audience and isn’t particular in terms of clothing ect but in America it is a
little more trended than in the UK. My audience for the magazine can’t be pin pointed but I will use myself as a prime
example because I am a fan of r&b magazines myself and r&b music. I don’t follow what the R&B artists do but I like
knowing what they do and where. I copy fashion trends from the females at a high street price.
2. Outline what tastes they have (shops, labels, drinks etc.)
Clothing websites.
http://www.urbanoutfitters.co.uk
http://www.sturbanclothing.com
http://www.urbanindustry.co.uk
http://www.urban-drinks.co.uk/index.php on this website it shows all the types of drinks that the a list r&b celebs
drink, from jay Z to will smith, it allows you to order the drinks and have the delivered to you!
3. What they do in their spare time (sport, clubbing, going to gigs etc.)
Football, gym, underground clubs.
4. What type of music or genre of films to they listen to/watch? (images of bands, cd covers)
11. To attract any kind of audience to a magazine it has to appeal to the eye and look like it is going to be a
magazine that will offer interest to the reader.
Going back to my primary research, I found that in a magazine, the audience wanted to see a magazine that
consisted of a good layout and a good colour palette. I know that readers want to know the latest of what’s
going on in the industry.
The reader wanted to see a good flow of text in the double page spread so it looks right and they are able to
read it easily.
This is my final audience feedback
What draws your attention to the product?
The colour scheme is very flattering to the eye.
What genre is it and how do you know?
R&b because of the artists featured on the sky line
What social groups does it represent and how?
The artists are of high class but the social groups it represents are all social
classes.
How would you improve the product?
I would have more text on the double page spread
What do you consider are the strengths of the product?
The layout is very professional and the sell lines are really good
12. Evaluation Question 6
What have you learnt about technologies from
the process of constructing this product?
I have learnt how to use photo shop, id design and prezi and blogger.com
which I never used any of them before, I now know how to export photo shop
products into in design and save them as jpegs to print out, I know how to
screen shot and upload into blogger.com. I now know how to use the studio
with the lighting and how to syn the flash with the lights in the studio.
