HOW TO ENSURE MY 
MAGAZINE IS A SUCCESS?
SYNERGY AND TECHNOLOGY CONVERGENCE 
Synergy is a way of making even more money out of your brand. I could 
create my magazine into a brand and sell complimentary products. All these 
products must be desirable to my target audience. As they are mod fans, I 
want my products to be related to the genre to ensure they would 
sell.Synergy makes it possible so I do not have to limit myself to one 
product, a print magazine. It allows me to promote my product over cross 
platforms. 
Technology convergence is when you create a version of your print magazine 
on a different platform. This could mean creating a radio station, where all 
songs played related to my mod genre and interviews are from mod bands. 
A benefit of using these allows my magazine to become more popular. With 
the number of readerships continuing to fall in print magazines, doing this 
allows me to make my brand grow and not depending on the print issue 
inorder to gain popularity. If someone enjoys one of my products from my 
brand, then they will be more willing to buy the magazine when they see it in 
stores.

A great case study to look at is Kerrang. Kerrang has developed 
themselves into a brand which has products over many different 
platforms. What started as a print publication now has a radio station 
and a TV channel. The benefit of this is that the readership for it’s 
print magazine has fallen. This means they will get less revenue from 
companies wanting to advertise in there print magazine, however 
creating, for example, a TV channel means that they will pay Kerrang 
to play their adverts in there ad breaks instead. They will therefore 
get revenue this way. Also if someone decide to listen to either radio 
or TV kerrang and enjoy it, this could encourage them to buy the 
print magazine. Kerrang also do yearly awards, this is something that 
gets audience involvement by allow them to vote. When the audience 
become more of a part of Kerrang this could cause them to commit 
more with the brand and encourage them to more Kerrang platforms. 
They also supply merchandise. This is a easy way to get revenue. If 
people are proud to read Kerrang, they would like the idea of a 
Kerrang T-shirt to show this.
POSSIBLE PRODUCTS FOR MY 
MAGAZINE 
Coffee- My target audience loves to drink coffee. Therefore want to create a 
coffee recipe which will be made and sold in independent coffee places 
which my target market like to visit. Also when people walk around with the 
coffee cup with the brand name on, this gives me free advertising. If people 
aren’t familiar with the magazine but buy a coffee with the logo on, when 
they enter a magazine store and recognize the logo this could cause them to 
Discount Card – I coubludy c trheea tme aag daizsicnoeu.nt card and hand it out in 
magazines. This card gives them discounts in tailors shops as 
mods like to get tailor suits. Could also get a discount on the 
brand’s coffee. Get invited to special levis and Fred Perry events 
as these were are two iconic brands that areH ereadlaptheodn wesi t–hC mouoldd. create a headphones line. This is 
highly relatable to having a music magazine. If people are 
reading a music magazine, they will be listening to music 
as well. The headphones can have a retro look to relate to 
1960’s when youth culture of mod was present. 
Gigs- Events set up and are advertised in the 
magazine. A small location will be scouted and band 
influenced by mod will perform.
