The combination of the main product and ancillary texts is very effective as they focus on color which links them together. The music video transitions from black and white to color, and the digital pack and poster both use high color saturation. The digital pack front cover also transitions from black and white to color to link to the music video. The poster uses color to catch the eye of potential buyers. While the poster does not include black and white, it still links to the digital pack through blurred saturated colors. The ancillary texts follow EDM genre conventions by emphasizing color and including plain backgrounds, as seen in other CD covers and posters. The actor is prominently centered in both ancillary texts. The ancillary texts are realistic as
2. combination
• My Digi pak, poster and music video go extremely well together as they all focus on
colour. For example, the music video transitions from black and white to a high
saturation and the digi pak and poster both have a high saturation of colour. The front
cover of the digi pak also has a transition of black and white to colour as the back cover
and front cover are one picture and the front cover is in colour and the back cover is in
black and white. This is significant because this links to the music video whilst at the
same time would catch the eye of potential buyers of the album which is why the back
cover is in black and white not the front. The poster was also designed to be eye
catching which is why it is all in colour as its purpose is to promote the album which is
best done through peoples gazes being drawn to it and the best way to do that is with
colour. Although the poster doesn’t have black and white on it, it still links with the Digi
Pak through the Blur lines that the saturated colours come from. Furthermore it links
with the video because at the end, the clip is highly saturated.
3. Genre conventions
• My ancillary texts keep to my
EDM genre conventions as
again, colour is an important
factor of EDM posters and
Digi Paks. Furthermore in the
ancillary texts that I studied,
plain backgrounds are always
found in CD covers and
posters. All of which are
applied to my work.
Moreover, the singer is
always prominently centred
within the photos so the
actor I used was the main
focus and centrally placed in
both ancillary texts.
4. Is it realistic?
• My ancillary texts are realistic as they conform to EDM genre conventions and
have all the necessary information on them: a web address, social media links, a
featuring song, the name of the singer, the album name and a release date. My
Digi Pak also had small print, song names on the album, record label, bar code,
artist name and an album title. All of the above are found on commercially
produced products.
