Question 1
I think that our film is very similar to other films in our chosen genres as it has
very similar conventions to other action movies such as the most recent James
Bond films. This is because their opening sequences start off with a few
establishing shots and then goes into the action. Our video is similar to these
as it starts off with the establishing shots and then goes into the action,
however it is nothing compared to the fast pace of the James Bond films. I also
believe that our film is similar to The Matrix in the way that they also use a
disappearing gun to add mystery to the film. We believe that this works well in
our film as it adds a sense of the unknown to The Court of Owls and shows
them as a powerful force. Our film is also similar to the film Taken as the
classic phone conversation in the film is very similar to ours in the way that one
person is in control of the conversation and we can only properly see one of
the participants.
I believe that our film keeps some of the conventions of action films. Whilst
the film we have produced does share a lot of the conventions an action film
would have such as a sense of danger and mystery I do think that it is different
in the way that the supposed hero of the film is killed off quickly. This is
different to most films as the hero is normally introduced immediately so that
the audience can get to connect to him/her more easily. However I do believe
that film does look and feel like other action movies. I think that the music we
chose to use helps link the film to other action movies as it is intense and puts
the viewers on edge for what might happen. I also think that the camera shots
used build an image of intensity and danger. I especially think this with the
close – ups as it allows the viewers to get closer look into the fear the
character is facing.
