The document discusses different procurement routes for construction projects, including traditional design-bid-build, design and build, and management contracting. Under the traditional approach, the developer hires a professional team including an architect, quantity surveyor, and engineer. The architect designs the building, the quantity surveyor prepares cost estimates and payment valuations, and engineers provide structural and mechanical support. Contractors then bid to build the design. Design and build contracts assign design and construction responsibility to a single contractor for a fixed price. Management contracts engage a contractor to manage the project in exchange for a fee, while the developer directly pays all construction costs.
Estimating and Tendering methods for Construction WorkDaniel Ross
The document discusses different project procurement methods:
1. The traditional method involves the client hiring separate consultants like designers, quantity surveyors, and structural engineers to design the project before appointing a contractor.
2. Design-build arrangements allow the contractor to take responsibility for both design and construction. This provides single-point responsibility and prices that better reflect final costs.
3. Management contracting appoints a contractor to contribute construction expertise during design and later manage subcontractors on site to finish on time and budget. This allows construction to start before full design and improves coordination.

Tendering process, Bid Evaluation & Award ProcessPrateek Kashyap
The document provides an overview of the tendering, bid evaluation, and award process. It discusses key steps like issuing a notice inviting tenders, bid submission and opening, evaluation of technical, commercial, and financial capabilities of bidders, potential post-bid meetings, developing an evaluation report, and awarding the contract to the best bidder. The goal is to select the most suitable supplier through a fair and transparent competitive bidding process.
The document discusses the tendering process for construction projects and the role of the architect. It explains that tendering involves inviting contractors to submit bids/offers for the work. The architect prepares tender documents, including drawings, specifications and a bill of quantities listing all work items. Contractors submit priced tenders in response. The architect then evaluates the tenders, checks for compliance, analyzes costs, selects a contractor and administers the construction contract. The bill of quantities provides measured work quantities for contractors to price, allowing for accurate, consistent bids to select the most efficient contractor.

This document discusses the prequalification and post-qualification processes for selecting contractors. It defines prequalification as assessing contractor qualifications before inviting bids to ensure only suitable contractors bid. The key steps are advertisement, preparing a prequalification document specifying criteria, evaluating applications, and updating qualifications during bidding. Prequalification has benefits like avoiding expenses for unqualified bidders and ensuring realistically qualified contractors bid, but also has disadvantages like increased scheduling and collusion risks. Post-qualification assesses contractor qualifications along with bids for simple contracts.

Role-based access controls permission for different user types like administrators, data entry users, and monitoring officers.
The document discusses the traditional procurement method for construction projects. It begins by outlining the key aspects of the traditional method, including that the client hires consultants to handle design, cost control, and administration, while a contractor is hired to carry out the construction works. It then discusses the advantages and disadvantages of the traditional method based on a client's request to build a RM1.2 billion hotel and shopping complex within 5 years while maintaining full design control and minimal variations. The document recommends using the traditional method to meet the client's needs and control over the project. It provides a timeline and overview of risks associated with the traditional procurement approach.
1. A tender is an invitation from an owner to contractors to bid on a construction project within a specified timeframe and cost. Tenders can be open, sealed, limited, or single and are classified based on bidding requirements and contractor selection.
2. The tender process involves preparing tender documents, publishing a notice inviting bids, submitting and evaluating bids, accepting a tender, and awarding a contract. Key information provided includes project details, completion timeline, earnest money deposits, and bid evaluation criteria.
3. For a contract to be valid, it requires a definite offer from the owner and acceptance from the contractor to complete the specified work, as defined in the contract documents signed by both parties.

The document discusses Bills of Quantities (BOQ), which are schedules that categorize, detail, and quantify materials and costs for construction projects. A BOQ is an important communication tool between clients, consultants, and contractors that provides estimated costs, defines the scope of work, and establishes a basis for cost valuation and contract payments. It generally includes item descriptions, units, quantities, rates, and amounts in a tabular format. BOQs help standardize bidding, financial administration, and valuation of variations throughout the project lifecycle.
This document describes different types of contracts that can be used when selecting consultants for World Bank projects. It outlines lump sum contracts, which pay consultants based on clearly defined outputs. It also describes time-based contracts that pay hourly or daily rates when the scope of work is difficult to define. Retainer and contingency fee contracts provide both a retainer and percentage of sales for advisory services like privatization. Percentage contracts directly relate fees to construction costs and are sometimes used for architectural services. Indefinite delivery contracts establish unit rates to retain advisors for complex projects over extended periods.
