Dilraj Singh MEDIA Evaluation Q6
Q6 - What Have You Learnt About Technologies From The
Process Of Constructing The Product?
From constructing my production, I have learnt that using media
technologies takes some time and practice to get used to and to
eventually perfect. Using the camera at the beginning of the
production was a slight problem for me as I had to learn how to
maintain a long shot whilst remaining in focus. However, by the end
of my production I had learnt how to master this skill, and use the
camera professionally and effectively. For example, I now know how
to use the positioning of the camera in an effective way to ensure
that I got the appropriate feeling across to my audience.
In front of the camera I am sure I was very confident. As I has the
role of leading director of my opening scene production, I made
certain that everyone was confident with themselves and the role
that they had to play. When working with the camera, I made sure
that everyone was in shot and that everyone was talking to the
appropriate volume and speaking clearly, so that the camera could
easily pick it up without any difficulties. As a result of not doing so in
my preliminary test, I learnt that the dialogue would be inaudible if it
is not spoken clearly and to the right volume level. Consequently, I
learnt the importance of this and I made sure that I improved on this
in my final production.
Since using the iMacs and the programme iMovie, I have learnt that
making a production can be quick and relatively simple. Having said
this, at the beginning of the film production I expected editing to be
the most challenging aspect of the film production as this was the
hardest I had encountered during my preliminary task. However,
despite this difficulty I assigned myself the role of main editor when
filming the main production. I began editing when we finished all the
filming and I used iMovie to do this. I thought editing my work on
iMovie was effect as I was familiar with the software and I could use
Dilraj Singh MEDIA Evaluation Q6
my knowledge to my advantage and add the specific effects I
thought would look good. When I was editing my film I felt confident
as it was all coming together brilliantly and I thought that I added the
right effects so that it fits and helps my film look cleaner. From
editing my preliminary task to editing my final opening scene AS
production I would say I have learnt a lot about how to modify a
movie and add little bits just to clean up the production. For example
I have added many transitions to my final film something witch I
never knew about in the beginning.
My skills in production work and actually having experience in filming
and editing have developed massively from the start of the course. I
would say this because I think I have become very confident in my
ability to both film and edit a piece. For example in the start of the
course, when told to film something basic like copy of a real scene, I
would go out and film a piece using basic shots and angles. For
example I would always use a long shot to film an establishing shot
and that’s it. But now I would use a long shot with zoom and pan to
create more of an effect for the viewer so it feels like they are
watching something they can really believe is real. Also I developed
my knowledge of key terms and a understating of what high quality
shots Intel so that I could go out and integrate it into my
productions. At the start of the course I would say I wasn’t sure on
how to make my productions look very real which is the thing that I
want to achieve every time I make a production. But now I would say
that I know what and how to do specific things like positioning
people so that they match the narrative and so that people can
believe the overall storyline.
Something I would say that I feel the need to improve on regarding
the use of technologies in production work is the when using the
camera more effectively. I say this because during filming sometimes
our production would be out of focus or we didn’t use a tri pod when
it was necessary. Also I want to improve on the fact that I need to
Dilraj Singh MEDIA Evaluation Q6
block out unnecessary background noise such as wind, as this played
a part in my film as we had some trouble trying to get rid of the wind
noise as it was overlapping the dialogue from the character in the
production. I also want to improve on how I use cuts and cross cuts
in an affective manor. I say this because I think in my film I had
trouble transitioning between cuts and scenes which hinged me a
little as I was trying to figure out the best way for the shots to seem
smooth and work well when changing. Overall I think that my
knowledge and development of using media technologies improved
massively. This meant that I could showcase my talent and thus
produce a great final AS opening scene.

  • 1. Dilraj Singh MEDIA Evaluation Q6 Q6 - What Have You Learnt About Technologies From The Process Of Constructing The Product? From constructing my production, I have learnt that using media technologies takes some time and practice to get used to and to eventually perfect. Using the camera at the beginning of the production was a slight problem for me as I had to learn how to maintain a long shot whilst remaining in focus. However, by the end of my production I had learnt how to master this skill, and use the camera professionally and effectively. For example, I now know how to use the positioning of the camera in an effective way to ensure that I got the appropriate feeling across to my audience. In front of the camera I am sure I was very confident. As I has the role of leading director of my opening scene production, I made certain that everyone was confident with themselves and the role that they had to play. When working with the camera, I made sure that everyone was in shot and that everyone was talking to the appropriate volume and speaking clearly, so that the camera could easily pick it up without any difficulties. As a result of not doing so in my preliminary test, I learnt that the dialogue would be inaudible if it is not spoken clearly and to the right volume level. Consequently, I learnt the importance of this and I made sure that I improved on this in my final production. Since using the iMacs and the programme iMovie, I have learnt that making a production can be quick and relatively simple. Having said this, at the beginning of the film production I expected editing to be the most challenging aspect of the film production as this was the hardest I had encountered during my preliminary task. For example I have added many transitions to my final film something witch I never knew about in the beginning. My skills in production work and actually having experience in filming and editing have developed massively from the start of the course. For example in the start of the course, when told to film something basic like copy of a real scene, I would go out and film a piece using basic shots and angles. For example I would always use a long shot to film an establishing shot and that’s it. But now I would use a long shot with zoom and pan to create more of an effect for the viewer so it feels like they are watching something they can really believe is real. Dilraj Singh MEDIA Evaluation Q6 block out unnecessary background noise such as wind, as this played a part in my film as we had some trouble trying to get rid of the wind noise as it was overlapping the dialogue from the character in the production. I also want to improve on how I use cuts and cross cuts in an affective manor. I say this because I think in my film I had trouble transitioning between cuts and scenes which hinged me a little as I was trying to figure out the best way for the shots to seem smooth and work well when changing. Overall I think that my knowledge and development of using media technologies improved massively. This meant that I could showcase my talent and thus produce a great final AS opening scene.
