Throughout the project, the student learned many new production skills. They learned about different camera shots like master shots and establishing shots, which helped them plan innovative sequences for their thriller film. The student also learned how important tripods and steady shots are for professional-looking footage. Additionally, they learned how to edit sound using Premiere Pro to isolate dialogue and build tension. The editing process taught the student how to use effects in After Effects and Premiere Pro to trim, crop, and color grade clips. Overall, the production process provided a wide-ranging education in camerawork, editing, sound, and planning through storyboards and mood boards.
1. Question 3
HOW DID YOUR PRODUCTION SKILLS DEVELOP THROUGHOUT THIS PROJECT?
2. Throughout the time of the project i had learnt a lot regarding production process of film and other
media and felt as if my skills have improved. As when i started i knew nothing about camera shots but
having learnt about the different angles and shots that i had learnt it meant we could implement these
within our film to create an innovative thriller sequence.
Overall i had learnt about various camera shots such as master shot , establishing shots , worms eye
view and various others. Therefore when planning our final peace we came together and created a
plan about what shots we would use in the different situations within the film. Some examples of us
using shots in different situations are within the hostage scene as we decided to use extreme close-up
shots where as in the opening sequence we used establishing shots. Next we learnt about how
important a tripod is a during the editing of our first rough cut we noticed that by not using a tripod
our footage was incredibly shaky therefore looked awful and unprofessional so we could not use the
footage and had to re film using a tripod. The results from using the tripod provided and ensured that
all shots were steady , sharp and always focused . However if we decided to film from a P.O.V running
perspective then filming without the camera would be necessary as it would relay the real life events
that occurred.
3. Sound plays a key part within our thriller opening , as it one of the best tension and ambiguity builders
and makes the opening ''professional''. We used Premiere Pro when editing the sound. By editing the
sound we were taught how to remove the unwanted sound from clips in order to isolate the sound of
the soundtrack. We we removed any irrelevant sound and kept any key dialogue which was needed
such as the speech of the bank owner who stole millions. Finally we learnt how to heighten the sound
track at certain parts of the soundtrack where there was a lot of action, this allowed tension and
anxiety to be built up for the viewers excitement.
During the editing process, we learnt how to use Adobe After Effect and Adobe Premiere Pro. In my
case i had never used adobe premier pro but did have experience with after effects. Therefore i
needed to build my knowledge on premier pro i decided to go onto YouTube to gain extra info about
how to rotate clips and how to apply special effects. After time of grasping how to apply effects to our
clips the process of putting the clips together was easily and i could then easily trim , crop , and rotate
clips if the were off centre. I also learnt much more such as changing the colour and tone of the clip in
order to make it brighter so they would fit in with the continuity hypothesis within media.
4. Throughout this process a key part i have learnt is the planning process from creating story boards ,
mood boards and brainstorms. As at first our plan was very minimal therefore many parts of our
thriller was difficult to film as we had little organisation. So by noticing this we went back to the
drawing bored and ensured we had a detailed plan which ended up being the foundation of our
filming process.
Overall the production process has educated me tremendously in terms of camerawork , editing ,
sound and mise-en-scene within a thriller. Going from filming to editing as allowed me have a wide
range in knowledge about the variety of editing software such as premier pro and after effects.
Although i had worked great a team within this process i feel that in the future i would like to work as
an individual as i enjoy a challenge and feel as if my overall production will have increased
dramatically. Continuing on our location wasn't thoughtful and we didn't film anywhere else but
within the area of the school. However we did make a good production despite only filming within the
school area.
