Clean Water, Clean Power Anywhere We provide “off-the-grid" solutions that can supply clean water, clean energy and other needs, virtually anywhere in the world
Net-Zero Energy Thanks to its solar array and design innovations, this California school produces as much electricity as it consumes from the grid.
Providence Partners Have installed thousands of solar installations In 1985, developed one of California's first large scale bio energy conversion projects Chosen by Clinton Administration to serve on a White House Council on needs of our National Electrical Infrastructure Brought clean biodiesel fuel to California in 2006 devised the energy efficiency and retro-fit program that was used coast to coast (USA), in over 2,800 grocery and convenience stores Lead the world in solar water pump technology
Water Safe and clean drinking water and sanitation is a human right, essential for the full enjoyment of life and all human rights United Nations, July 26, 2010
Water-borne illness The list of water-borne diseases is long: Amoebiasis, Cryptosporidiosis, Cyclosporiasis, Giardiasis, Microsporidiosis, Schistosomiasis, Dracunculiasis (Guinea Worm Disease), Taeniasis, Fasciolopsiasis, Hymenolepiasis, Echinococcosis, Coenurosis, Ascariasis, Enternpbiasis, Botulism, Campylobacteriosis, Cholera, E. coli, M. marinum infection, Dysentery, Legionellosis, Leptospirosis, Salmonellosis, Typhoid fever, Vibrio illness, Adenovirus infection, Gastroenteritis, SARS, Hepatitis A, Poliomyelitis, (Polio) and Polyomavirus
Making Water Safe This portable solar powered water purification system fights water-borne disease. It saves lives.
Highly Portable The systems are very rugged and are mounted on a reinforced trailer. They can be towed anywhere by a light truck. The unit can be set up in less than a day.
Solar Powered No fuel required No connection to an electrical grid needed No other infrastructure needed The Providence system is designed for service in even the most remote locations.
Stopping disease In 2009, the Iraqi government ordered 327 of our systems to help stop an outbreak of Cholera.
Clean water for 600,000 The systems were quickly deployed, and now provide safe, clean water for 600,000 Iraqi citizens.
Source Water Water from rivers, wells, lakes, streams, ponds, even brackish water can be converted to clean water that is safe to drink.
Safe Once water has passed through the system it is 99.99% free of harmful bacteria, viruses, cysts and pollutants, preventing water-borne diseases like cholera and typhoid.
The system has been proven to convert high turbidity (greater than 50 NTU) surface feed water to clear, clean drinking water (less than 0.2 NTU.)
Filtration Filtration systems are custom designed for your local water conditions. They can include different combinations of a pre-filter stage, mechanical filtration, reverse osmosis (RO) membrane filtration, and ultra violet light processing. Brackish water can be purified for drinking, or for agricultural use.
Unusual Conditions In addition to filtration for normally encountered conditions, we can provide filters with special resins to remove unusual threats.
Won’t foul Unlike other systems, Providence systems feature a unique “straw” that draws in the source water. The straw acts as a preliminary filter, removing particles that often foul pumps in other machines. This is a huge advantage, and part of the reason why Providence systems function reliably, day after day, year after year .

Reliability and Durability The system was designed with the knowledge that peoples’ lives depend on its working every day, in the harshest conditions, in truly remote areas.
Long Life Providence systems are made to provide reliable service for up to 20 years or more, with minimal maintenance.
Automatic Throughout the day, the system’s automatic tracking mechanism follows the sun and positions the solar panels at the optimal angle, providing maximum power. This increases efficiency by up to 40 % over stationary arrays.
Early Start As soon as sun rises , the system wakes up. The submersible pump draws water through the “gills” in the straw, into the gravel pack filter. This filtration eliminates particles down to 400 microns, before the water reaches the main filtration system. This is the key to the system’s dependability and longevity. .
The submersible pump sends the water through the gravel pack filter, through the PVC straw, up the insulated raw water hose (which can be up to 20 meters long) and into the system’s series of multi-media filters, where the water is filtered to 5 microns or less.
Protected These filters, along with the membranes, controls, and gauges are contained within the unit’s rugged metal cabinet This protects against the elements and against unauthorized use.
Ultra-Filtration The water is pushed through the system’s ultra-filtration membrane , which further eliminates particulates and contamination. The system will detect any differentials in pressure and will automatically backwash as necessary.
UV Treatment Next the water is exposed to ultra-violet light, rendering bacteria, viruses and other organic threats harmless.
The system then pumps the purified water to a storage tank, or to a dispensing station
Reverse Osmosis Some source water conditions, like brackish water, require Reverse Osmosis (RO) filtration to purify the water. Systems equipped with RO filtration pump the water into a storage tank. The water is pumped back into the system under pressure, and through a reverse osmosis membrane. The water is then pumped back out, ready to drink.
Easy to Use System is very easy to operate The filtration systems feature automatic flushing and backwash Automatic low pressure shutdown and restart Automatic start with sunrise
Providence system output Based on mid-latitudes 10,560 gallons per day 1,320 gallons/hour 5,000 liters/hour 5 cubic meters 6336 gallons/day 2112 gallons/day gallons per day 792 gallons/hour 3,000 liters/hour 3 cubic meters 264 gallons/hour 1,000 liters/hour 1 cubic meter clean water gallons per hour clean water liters per hour cubic meters of water per hour
Scalable While Providence systems are most often configured to produce 1, 3 or 5 cubic meters of pure water per hour, we can provide systems with even greater output. The design can be scaled to meet whatever the clean water requirements are. Clean water for hundreds, for thousands, even for tens of thousands.
Easy Setup Estimated man-hours and skills required for set up and break down: one qualified electrician or pump technician, plus one helper, can set up a system in one day. With experience, a machine can be set up in approximately 4 hours These systems can be packed up for re-deployment in 2 hours or less.
Easy Maintenance For daily operation, it is suggested the machines be checked- a process that might require 15 or 20 minutes of one person’s time. It is suggested that a tender inspect the machines approximately once a month . The system also has a 5 micron filter that may need changing every 3, 6 or 9 months , depending on local conditions.
Inexpensive to Maintain All prices ex-works, subject to change $57 Media filter (gravel, sand and brass compound media mix)- once a year $1,671 per 55 gallons Fluid to de-scale RO unit, approximately 1 gallon every 6 months. Anti-scalant, 55 gallon drum. $203 RO membranes last between 3 years and 15 years, depending on how they are used. $5.50/gallon in US Small amount of chlorine for injection system- must be obtained locally in country. $18 5 micron filter (change every 3-9 months, depending on local conditions $2,646 UF module, if properly maintained, will last 5-7 years or longer Under $100 UV light, needs replacement about once a year
Remote Monitoring Optional onboard computer and microprocessor system allows the unit to be remotely monitored through satellite or cellular technology. Remote monitoring provides details about system operation and performance, including the performance of individual components.
Less Than A Penny The total cost of producing a gallon of safe, clean water with our system is less than a penny per gallon. This includes the capital cost of the machine.
No Fuel Cost Since the system is powered entirely by the sun, there is no added cost or logistical burden of fuel. Fuel savings alone can pay for the system over time.
“ The conventional method of providing potable water in the wake of a disaster is often costly and logistically complex. Normally, potable water is distributed to communities by trucking in bottled water or using diesel generator purification systems. Any proposed system must eliminate many points of failure by presenting a stand-alone design allowing for flexible transport of the unit by air, land or water bringing a cost-effective, high-yield water purification capability to potential users incorporating a self-generating power source.” – US Dept. of Homeland Security Our systems meet these requirements
Flexible An optional wind turbine can add power. The system can also be powered by a battery bank, by a conventional generator, or by connecting to an electrical grid.
Training Iraqi engineers received comprehensive training Extensive training is provided at our California location for technical or engineering delegates.
Complete Program Skilled international drilling teams available Advanced technology water location available Assistance in establishing water sanitation protocol, regular water testing, proper well seals, and public education Training available in the U.S. for water testing technicians

Thousands of Native Americans live without electricity and other basic comforts in remote parts of Arizona and New Mexico. Working with a Navajo non-profit organization and others, our partner has launched a project to fix that.
In February, the first of many multi-purpose structures planned for the Navajo Nation was installed. The structure was connected to a family home that had no electricity, no indoor plumbing, and only a wood stove for heating.
Workers begin installing the solar array. The multi-purpose utility structure is in the background, right, and the home it will be connected to is at left.
Light, Power, Heat The project has the enthusiastic support of the Navajo nation leadership. Plans call for the addition of 100 more multi-purpose structures. The Curtis family poses in their home with guests, under an electric light powered by the multi-purpose utility structure. They now have a refrigerator, too.
Many Applications In addition to providing basic services to off-the-grid residences, the portable multi-purpose structure can be used for military and relief missions, for commercial operations in remote areas, or many other uses.
Remote Monitoring The structures feature a broadband remote monitoring system to track the systems’ performance . A charge controller with native language voice-over alerts when maintenance is necessary.

Workers begin installingthe solar array. The multi-purpose utility structure is in the background, right, and the home it will be connected to is at left.
  • 85.
Light, Power, HeatThe project has the enthusiastic support of the Navajo nation leadership. Plans call for the addition of 100 more multi-purpose structures. The Curtis family poses in their home with guests, under an electric light powered by the multi-purpose utility structure. They now have a refrigerator, too.
