The life and accomplishments of Al Capone during the...
During the prohibition era of the 1920 s, if one wasn t an enemy of Alphonse (Al) Scarface
Capone, was he, in many eyes, a hero? Due to his savvy street smarts and the corrupt rebellion of
the decade, Al Capone was not only a popular commentary of the time, but is now a legend. His
classic boy from the ghetto turned generous multi millionaire story only adds to the heroism seen in
this most famous Chicagomobster. Chicago s industries, open spaces and four seasons were an
enormous magnet for the 19th century Europeans looking for a home and opportunity. The frontier
Chicago grew into a wonderful collection of ethnic neighborhoods Irish, Italian, Russian, Greek,
German, Polish and others. In many of these communities, making beer and... Show more content

These statistics are probably sensationalized, however, no man has ever brought forth the proof
that Capone touched a trigger in any of them. The most that can be said is that Capone s
enemies (mainly other mob leaders trying to cash in a little too much, in Capone s territory, on
the prohibition law) died, that Capone s friends lived longer than the friends of other gangsters;
Capones power, influence, income, and the scope of his operations grew with the hammer blows
of death. It was not illegal in the 1920s to own a machine gun, so the Chicago piano quickly
became one of the key tools that gangs used to maintain their influence. The situation quickly got
out of control, and deteriorating became an open warfare. Hundreds of soldiers were killed on
Chicago s streets, in cars and at home, and the concept of being taken for a ride took on a new
meaning. Al Capone is said to have had more to do with this than any other, only because he was
the main mobster around and had so much control over all the illegal practiced doings of the
city. As there were many wars between the peasants and the king, there were many wars between
Chicago mobs over who had control and who didn t. Robin Hood was the peasants leader, as
Capone was the Chicago residents, but Chicago s king was not hated, in fact, he was adored and
respected by many! Capone was often seen with many highly regarded political

Alice Walker Everyday Use Symbolism
Alice Walker, author of the short story, Everyday Use, uses a plethora of symbolisms to depict
various situations and provoke the mind of the reader to think relatively deep in analyzing her
literary work. Intricately, symbolism refers to the representation of one item or idea in the form of
another with an aim of creating an understandable meaning of a particular societal situation through
a narration. Symbols are majorly a form of words or objects. Symbolism is a crucial literary
element that is widely used by writers to present their ideologies creatively. Significantly, literature
authors always have an objective to exert symbolism in their writings. Similarly, Alice Walker uses
symbolism to symbolize various situations in her literature.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

According to Mama s perception, the inside of the house is less comfortable than the outside,
regardless of the inside being clean and the outside being dirty at times. The narrator illustrates
this point when she states, A yard like this is more comfortable than most people know. (p. 494)
The comfortability of the yard embraces a symbolic place of hospitality and comfort. As stated
by Cropley, A favorite place is a place where we feel comfortable and relaxed. (Cropley)
Comparably, the main reason why the yard is prepared is to convey hospitality for when Dee
arrives. As stated in the text, I will wait for her in the yard that Maggie and I made so clean and
wavy yesterday afternoon. (p. 494) Before Dee s arrival, Mama gives a vivid description of the
visual aspect and cleanliness of the yard, whereas Dee is expected to be symbolically welcomed
into the spotless yard, which presents comfort and hospitality. Furthermore, Mama shows an
enormous preference of the yard that often gets breezes that never come inside the house. (p. 494)
For instance, most of the discussion about the quilt is carried out in the yard rather than inside the
house. As the narrator points out, It is not just a yard. It is like an extended living room. (p. 494)
The yard was a personal space for both, Maggie and Mama, who felt open and free to discuss
anything in the yard, which symbolizes the small extent of the setting where they can control
their lives, relax, and clear their thoughts. The author, Mark Cropley, states .... It is your space, a
space to regulate your emotions, a place to relax, calm down, and clear your mind. (Cropley)
Therefore, the yard is equally as important to the quilt, since the story begins at the yard and ends
at the very same place. In addition. the yard symbolizes a place of solitude and reflection.
Symbolically, the yard presents the difficulties

Distance Learning Disadvantages
Looking at All Sides Distance learning is an emerging method of learning. Everyone can learn in
every time at any location as long as they can access to Internet. I use distance learning as well.
During the last summer vacation, I began to study how to play guitar by myself through some
videos which is posted on the Internet by some professional guitarists. Now I have gotten the first
level guitar certificate. The distance learning help me a lot. However, some people think distance
learning is useless compared with traditional classroom. Though people have various opinions
based on their experience, social roles and information from others, I still believe it is necessary to
look at all sizes because it can strengthen our own opinions and reduce misunderstanding. Some of
parents question about distance learning. They think distance learning is useless because it does
not have supervisors like teachers. Students may be distracted by the relaxing environment at home
and do not finish their homework on time. At the same time, some teachers also point out that
distance learning is not as efficient as classroom because it cannot have a discussion and
participation with peers and teachers. Without other students, they may lose the passion about
study. What is more, Communication with others also an important lesson to students. By contrast,
other students and office workers believe that distance learning can also be flexible for them. They

To His Coy Mistress By Marvell
Examine the view that Marvell presents love as entirely physical Although the role of sexual
intercourse within the context of love is heavily emphasized by Marvell in To His Coy Mistress ,
suggesting that the Carpe Diem poem presents love as solely physical is arguably hyperbolic.
Marvell s structural establishment of a perpetual hypothetical implicitly addresses the nature of
romantic asexual love and presents it as something fundamentally positive. This is structurally
established in the first verse through Marvell s diction choice of had we and continually utilized
until the twentieth line. A hypothetical context is essentially presented to the love interest
addressed in the dramatic monologue, where Marvell and his lover have enough World and Time
and her sexual coyness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ultimately, this is due to Marvell and the addressee lacking the time to pursue these endeavours.
This becomes clear to the reader in verse 21, where Marvell metaphorically alludes to the Olympian
deity Apollo, through the symbolic establishment of time s winged Charriot hurrying near . Within
the context of the poem, this metaphor ultimately introduces a sharp tonal shift between the
hypothetical nature of the poem and the realism of the current situation. The shift in tone is further
enforced by Marvell s employment of the motif of death in line 27, where the grotesque imagery
of worms essentially deflowering his lover in the grave establishes juxtaposing connotations to
Marvell s hypothetical promise to love his mistress until the end of time in verse 10. Furthermore,
it reinforces the critical lack of time Marvell and the addressee have together as the lover will
inevitably die, inherently providing an essential argument to the addressee to indulge in sexual
intercourse with

Women During The 1800 s
Throughout history, it is seen that women were always treated like they were less than a male.
While a great amount of women hid and did what they were told, some women fought for their
rights and took a stand. For some women, this included getting a medical degree, or doing public
speaking. During the 1800 s, there were multiple women that fought for women s rights by
sticking up for themselves and not letting people down grade them for being female. One women
that beat the odds, and did what no woman has done before was Elizabeth Blackwell. She was the
first woman in the United States to receive a medical degree and she helped to break down
prejudice against women in medicine (Blackwell, Elizabeth). Elizabeth was born on February 3,

Unit 3: Comparison Essay Throne of Blood is a film directed by Akira Kurosawa which is based on

Scotland, Throne of Blood is set in Japan. Macbeth is a tragic play that is mainly revolving around
Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. The play and film are two productions that are very similar but differ
in the aspects of the plot events.
Macbeth and his friend Banquo wandered into talking to three witches. The three witches tell

After watching the videos and understanding what is being developed in the industry of material
engineering, the material that I personally found most interesting was kevlar. It seemed like such
a lightweight material yet it is very strong and it has a lot of different applications. Poly
paraphenylene terephthalamide known as Kevlar, was invented by the chemist Stephanie Kwolek
back in 1971. The material is produced by a chemical reaction with solvent and solutes. The
production of this material is expensive as it is not easy to do. However it is not easy to produce

The polymer owes its high strength to the many inter chain bonds. These inter molecular hydrogen
bonds form between the carbonyl groups and NH centers. Additional strength is derived from
aromatic stacking interactions between adjacent strands. These interactions have a greater influence
on Kevlar than the van der Waals interactions and chain length that typically influence the
properties of other synthetic polymers and fibers (Wikipedia). Therefore its main strength comes
from the intermolecular bonds and stacking of the material. Even though Kevlar is a very strong
material, it is yet very light considering the high strain it can handle. As this source claims Their
high strength to weight ratio and ability to resist high speed impacts enable them to be more
efficient than metals (Zhu). By this measure it is also known that Kevlar is almost five more times
stronger than steel. This image shows the tensile strength of Kevlar in comparison to other
materials. As seen, there is drastic difference and it has a much larger tensile strength.Kevlar has a

Digital Communication And Electronic Data
Introduction Backing up digital communication and electronic data especially e mails is a very
important IT practice to insure against loss of data. The main reason for backup of e mails is
restore emails whenever required. There have been a lot of cases in the past where emails have
been deleted accidently or intentionally which has created problems in day to day working.
Deletion of emails have hindered court cases and delayed judgement in the past. Cases like
Zubulake v. UBS Warburg have been decided by adverse inference which is nothing but failure
of defendant to provide proof to defend themselves. The Policy presents a mandate for
Universities and colleges in a state to contract a licensed third party who is not bias to archive
all the emails. Unbiased Email archiving is important as more and more lawsuit are being filed
and the defendants are unable to submit any emails to prove themselves innocent. Some of the

Tamara Mellon Walked Away from How Much In Her Stilettos!? It s not every day that you hear
of somebody walking away from a billion dollar business. Then again, it s not every day that you
meet a Tamara Mellon. Tamara Mellon is the creator/founder and ex face of Jimmy Choo, the
extravagant stiletto shoe line that became a must have after being featured on shows such as
Sex in the City . Her shoes would sell for upwards of $500 and $600 a pair, and she could sell
them out in a night. She lived the lifestyle of the rich and famous, but found that being one of the
wealthiest women in England didn t make her one of the happiest. Mellon s father was the co
founder of Vidal Sassoon and her mother was a Chanel model. She grew up in Beverly Hills until
she was old enough to go to English boarding school, and later a Swiss finishing school that

The Nordic Creation Myth
Much of the information about the Norse religion derives from Edda, which were a compilation of
Norse poem, gathered in Iceland during the Middle Ages (Lemonick and Dorfman). In Norse
Mythology, the world was created when Odin and his brothers slew the Frost Giant Ymir, and it
will end when the Giants rise against Odinand his comrades and kill them in battle. Nordic culture
was deeply centered on war, the only way one could enter Valhalla (the warrior s paradise) was to
die courageously in battle. Violence was a constant in their mythology, even love was accompanied
by murder, and treachery. Despite the harshness of death, friendship, drinking, eating, making love,
avenging wrongs, and fighting bravely was highly regarded (Citation). Nordic... Show more content

The gods would die when the Giants and demons rose against them. The last fight would take
place at Vigrid, a field one hundred miles in length and breadth (Ashliman). Odin would be
swallowed by Fenrir the wolf, but his son would avenge him. Thor and the Midgard Serpent would
destroy each other; so would Loki and Heimdall; and Tyr would slay Garm, the fierce dog of
Niflheim, and be clawed to death in turn. The stars and all heavenly bodies would plummet from
the sky as the earth sank beneath the sea. In Nordic mythology this was the end of time when all
existence would be destroyed. From the ashes of the old world, the Nameless One would give
birth to a new world beyond the edge of time (Ashliman). Nordic mythology shares several
similarities to that of the Bible, particularly that in the end of times a great battle will be fought,

Woodrow Wilson s The League Of Nations
The League of Nations was established in 1919 after the deadly and devastating conflict of World
War I. The nations of the world needed a way to rebuild and regain trust in one another after this
worldwide atrocity. President Woodrow Wilson believed that an international peacekeeping
organization, such as the League of Nations, could achieve this monumental goal. President Wilson
was convinced that the League could prevent another wWorld wWar, preserve peace, and promote
total disarmament among nations. Wilson went to the Treaty of Versailles
negotiations with a
Fourteen Point Plan for peace, but he sacrificed almost all of his plans so that the League of
Nations could be established. This organization, however, would never live up to the President s
dreams for its success. Despite Woodrow Wilsons support for the League of Nations, it failed as a
peace keeping organization because the United States did not participate, its decision making
process was ineffective, and it lacked an armed force to impose its decisions.
When Woodrow Wilson returned to the United States from the 1919Paris Peace talks, he began
campaigning within the United States for the ratification of the League. He had expected this to be
a easy process. However, there were many opponents to the League of Nations, including a small
group of Republican Senators and Congressman. These government officials were supported by
isolationists who wanted to keep the United States out of world affairs. They

Antonio Da Correggio Holy Night Nato Essay
Artwork is often used to represent and symbolise the Gospel and important figures to Christianity.
One of the artworks chosen is Holy Night Nativity Scene by Antonio da Correggio created in
1530. This artwork focuses on the birth of Jesus and lays the scene of which he enters the world.
The other one is the Annunciation by created in 2003. This artwork focuses on the moment Gabriel
tells Marythat she is pregnant with Jesus.
The Holy Night Nativity Scene relates directly to the verse And she gave birth to her firstborn
son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place
for them in the inn (Luke 2:7). It is symbolic of Jesus birth and represents that although his birth
was simple, he was surrounded by love. This artwork links to the narrative dimensions of Ninian

Jesus is the brightest figure in the painting as this represent that he is the light of the world. It
symbolises that he will guide others just as the star of bethlehem guided the three wise men. The
other figures in the painting have a slight glow to them which symbolises that Jesus has touched
them with his spirit as he will do the rest of his life. They are all looking down at him especially
Mary whose sole focus is directly on Jesus. This highlights her nurturing nature and the love she
has for him and signifies just how big a part she plays in Jesus life and teachings. The allows the
audience to understand and appreciate the deep connection between Jesus and Mary. As Mary
looks at Jesus, Joseph is looking at the two of them adoringly. Although Jesus isn t his biological
child, it can be seen that Joseph is going to love and support him. This is a valuable lesson for
Christian as it reminds them to love anyone and everyone. This is one of the main aspects Jesus
taught throughout his life as he believed it to be of utmost importance.

Vitamin Deficiencies and Psychiatric Illnesses
Deficiencies of vitamins are associated with psychiatric illnesses either by being the primary cause
or an exacerbating factor. Psychiatric symptoms could also lead to poor nutrition. Vitamin
deficiencies may play a role in compromising patient recovery.
Vitamins are organic substances essential for several enzymatic functions.
There are 13 known vitamins which are either fat soluble (4 vitamins i.e. KEDA) or water soluble
(9 vitamins i.e. C, the B group).
Regarding brain function, B vitamins are essential in the maintenance of myelin, neuro transmitter
production, and methylation cycle. Fat soluble vitamins are necessary in inflammatory regulation,
regeneration of antioxidants and genetic modification.

take oral contraceptives are at increased risk of vitamin B6 deficiency (11).
Vitamin B9 (folate)
Folate is required in synthesis of neurotransmitters found in the brain and in phospholipid
production. Dietary folate must be converted to L methylfolate for use in the brain. Folate
deficiency and insuf¬ficiency are common among patients with mood disorders and correlate with
illness severity (12).
A meta analysis of 11 stud¬ies of 15,315 persons found those who had low folate levels had a
significant risk of depression (13). In Tunisia, bipolar I patients with hyperhomocysteinemia had
reduced levels of folate (14)
The TT genotype in patients with a methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) C677T

The Theory of Evolution
Running Head: EVOLUTION The Theory of Evolution By Student s Name Name of University
Charles Darwin s theory of evolution has been a topic of controversy since it was promulgated in
the late 1800s. Nonetheless, its tenets remain strong, with many modern day scientists making
discoveries that support Darwin s theories of evolution, natural selection, and survival of the fittest.
In The Origin of Species, Darwin calls the process of natural selection or survival of the fittest, the
preservation of favorable individual differences and variations, and the destruction of those, which

Rhetorical Analysis Of Barrack Obama s Met Barack Obama
July 27, 2004, was the night America met Barack Obama. This was the night that Obama, a
member of the Illinois Senate at the time, spoke as the keynote speaker at the Democratic
National Convention. Obama is widely known for his and grand speeches that bring tears of
hope and joy to many Americans eyes. To be able to produce such strong emotions, a speaker
must put forth a speech that has all aspects of The Rhetoric, Ethos, pathos, logos, and the five
canons, as a well as use another theory called Narrative Paradigm to register with the audience.
Barrack Obama s 2004 DNC speech become widely successful as it created hope and national
unity throughout Americas with the help of Obama s use of The Rhetoric and Narrative
Paradigm Theory. The Rhetoric is a theory created by Aristotle; can be defined by Aristotle
himself as an ability, in each particular case, to see the available means of persuasion . This
theory holds three proofs to its name, ethos, pathos, and logos. The key to a successful speech is
holding all three of these proofs in the work. Ethos is the character and credibility that the
speaker holds. Pathos is what kind of emotional connection the speaker makes with the audience.
And Logos is how clear and rational the speaker s argument is (Wenzel, 2017). Obama has all
three proofs represented in his speech. Obama s Ethos or his credibility comes from the fact that
he was chosen as the keynote speaker at the DNC. While at the time he was a not widely known
politician, the fact that he was picked by presidential nominee, John Kerry. The way Obama
carries himself with pride and confidence; leading the audience to believe that he truly is just
that. If Obama made this same exact speech on the street people would not give him one minuet
of their time but because the DNC is a huge event held for the presidential elections, that
automatically gives him creditability. Obama uses pathos by telling the story of his parents
growing up. He tells the audience about how his father grew up in rural Kenya, herding goats,
and eventually worked his way to a scholarship in a magical place: America (Obama, 2004). He
goes on to tell the story of his mother and how she grew up in America with a military father and a

that occurred in Paris, the capital of France, and a Northern suburb Saint Denis. The Islamic State

What Is The Final Chapter Of Nickel And Dimed
The final chapter of Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich, Evaluation , states about low
income families being almost invisible to the mid to high income families. This observation is
valid because walking around places, Walmart, Kmart, etc., a person cannot distinguish what
class the person is in. Poorer families are also rarely portrayed on television or other forms of
entertainment, unless the show is about people getting arrested, since most people only find
higher class, comfortable people interesting. Also, everything in society is unequal, a person can
sit at a desk and order people around all day, without moving, and earn a salary of at least
$60,000, while the individual or individuals who get stuck with all of his work, are getting paid
around $25,000 a year. Yes, everyone starts out at a low on the totem pole job at a company and
they work their way up the food chain to get to the job they want, but the lower class gets
deemed lazy and or a high school dropout if they are seen waiting tables or working at a fast
food place or retail store past the age of 25 30. Just because they are working twice as hard as the
executives and other people higher up in society, and get paid twice to three times less than them,

Global Interdependence And The Existence Of Large...
Global interdependence and the existence of large multinational enterprises create a need for global
accounting. Multinational corporations are companies that carry out business in more than one
country other than their home. Companies go global for many reasons: to increase sales, improve
profits and innovation. Decentralization is essential for the creation of large firms, because CEOs
are otherwise constrained in the number of decisions they can make directly it is therefore critical
for enabling productive firms to grow large and to take market share from unproductive ones.
Because trust is strongly linked with more decentralization, it in turn affects productivity. The
absence of trust, in developing countries like Brazil, China, and India, explains why productive
firms do not grow large and drive out unproductive firms from the market place. Decentralization
presents problems within itself. With this, Managementaccounting is a system of measuring and
providing operational and financial information that drives management s actions in areas of
actions and behavior. Unlike financial, managements accounting generates reports for personnel
inside the organization, not stakeholders. It s purpose is to an organization reach its strategic
objectives. Internationally the primary strategic goals of managerial accounting are global
efficiency, multinational flexibility and worldwide learning. This initiates emphasis on planning
and control.

The Perception Of Social Behavior In Bartleby, The Scrivener
In Bartleby, The Scrivener, Bartleby serves as the main character with his distinct nature that
everyone is trying to decipher. Despite the attention around Bartleby, much of the story also
revolves around the narrator, the lawyer, who tells the story through his perspective; this implies
that the lawyer s ideology and perception of societal norms shape the interactions between the
lawyer and Bartleby but also how the story is told. Take for example, if the lawyer disregards
Bartleby and fires him on the spot, this story would have ended rather quickly and been much
different than it actually is. With this said, the lawyer s peculiar attraction to Bartleby s strange
behavior can be explained by the lawyer s innate ideas of social norms and instruction that stems
from the behavior of the other scriveners and his own experiences. Bartleby s behavior is
considered a deviation from the normbecause of the conforming behaviors of the other scriveners,
Turkey, Nippers and Ginger Nut. As scriveners, they listen to their employer, the lawyer, and do as
they were told. Their actions and reactions build the idea of society and how a scrivenershould

Psychologists study these and their influence on health, illnesses and patients responses to them. To

One of the early models of health psychology was the Biomedical Model. This model explained

Krasner International Legal Sovereignty
The standard of the popular sovereignty implies, that the authority of a state is to govern itself or
another state. Further, under our constitution, those who wield the executive power of the
Government are responsible to the legislatures and through them, to the people.
Krasner: According to Krasner it can be stated that governance and transitional administration are
inadequate. For this reason Krasner created three elements in which he viewed conventional
sovereignty, however, each still may contain their own violations of conventional sovereignty.

These five global wars defy the traditional notions of sovereignty. Speaking personally I can attest

Language Bias
1. When writing a research report, there are five main issues of language bias . They include
but, are not limited to, gender, age, sexuality, ethnicity, and disabilities. Gender is language bias,
as it is a cultural term referring to social roles, which may be perceived as offensive. For example,
referring to a female firefighter as a fireman implies that the female is actually a male firefighter.
To avoid this, writers should ensure that they are using terms to avoid sexist bias. Next, age is
language bias as a writer might think that someone is elderly because they are 50 but in reality, it
is not accurate to call someone elderly until they are 65 or older. Those that are 50 could find this
offensive. Thus to avoid this, a writer should always include an age range or refer to the APA
manual when placing people into age categories.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When talking about sexuality, writers should use words like sexual orientation, as it is not
implying the person chose a certain sexuality. For example, an author should not write about
how being a gay man is a sexual preference, as it seems like it was his choice. More so, ethnicity
is also language bias. It is best to refer to the geographic locations one is from, as ethnic labels
can be offensive or harmful. Writers can avoid using slang language by aiming to identify
persons by nation of origin. Lastly, language objectifying a person s condition or disability is
language bias. Language including negative labels, or slurs should not be used, as they are
harmful and offensive. If one needs to write about a condition, it is advised they place focus on the
individual and not the disability. For example, if they are writing about dyslexia, they could state,
persons with dyslexia find it frustrating to do group work (APA,

The End Of The Palestinian Refugee Crisis
The Arab argument is that the Jews purposefully expelled the native Palestinians from Palestine to
make room for a Jewish state. They claim that the Palestinian Arab population was violently
removed from their homes in Palestine by the Israeli army and forced to flee to neighboring Arab
countries. However, historical fact points in the other direction. The start of the Palestinian refugee
crisis was rooted in the divisions within the Arab population and its leadership. In Palestine, there
were several dozen elite families, the Ayan, who controlled areas of Palestine. These families ruled
on a strictly local scale and did not communicate with each other, creating what Benny Morris

This emotional detachment from the land was a major factor in the ease in which the
Palestinians fled their homes for neighboring countries. This dysfunctional society and its
pronounced lack of leadership prompted many Arabs to flee right after the Partition Plan was
adopted by the United nations, before the war. In 1947, Arab morale was low in Palestine. There
was a constant fear of Jewish reprisals for Arab terrorist attacks and the Palestinians did not have
faith in their leaders ability and even willingness to protect them. The Arabs feared being caught
in the war and they feared the prospect of living under Jewish rule. Wealthy Arab families were
the in the vanguard of the Arab flight with Haganah reports of groups of fleeing Arabs on
November 30, 1947, the day immediately following the ratification of the Partition Plan. A few
days later, Arabs in Jerusalem, Jaffa, Tel Aviv and other towns and villages were evacuating their
homes. On December 9, 1947, the Haganah intelligence service reported that wealthy families
were leaving the [coastal] cities heading inland. Rich people are emigrating to Syria, Lebanon,

to convince the children that if they comply, they will be rewarded; for example, children must

Parents need to stop feeding these ridiculous lies about fictional characters existing to their children.

Woman At Zero
Peter Kropotkin once said, America is just the country that how all the written guarantees in the
world for freedom are no protection against tyranny and oppression of the worst kind. Freedom
does not completely protect one from oppression of any kind. Nevertheless, freedom seems to
come with persecution of some sort. The choices we make identify the treatment we receive. In
diverse parts of the globe, we meet numerous types of freedom. Nevertheless, they are alike for
this liberty as a whole is not provided, rather only a part. The choices one makes from the freedom
provided come with a variety of divergent outcomes. Consequences of these preferences are

American exceptionalism can be defined as America emerging high above any other country.
Millions of people travel to America in hopes to achieve the American Dream . The country has
become so well known for its freedom; it has created the term American exceptionalism. However,
many people debate that America does not possess that established freedom. America does not
allow for everyone to exercise their rights freely. Rather, Americans treat others contrarily on
account of their sex, religion, race, and ethnicity. Today, someone may mention Muslims and
immediately a single term comes to mind terrorist. Then again, it is not the only expression that
stereotypes people. Many label Latinos as rapists, African Americans as robbers, and Americans as
drug addicts. One can no longer look at someone else without judging them by the color of their
skin. Unfortunately, people s religion and sex have now become the identity of a person as well,
and the way people differentiate others continue pulling apart the population. America has
demonstrated, that for them, this penalty is worth their reputation. They use the people who are
discriminated for obtaining the country s riches (such as the reliance on immigrants to complete
cheap labor jobs), and even though it is a difficult price to pay, America has decided to move

What Were The Causes Of The Red River Rebellion In Canada
During the past years, The events known as the Red River rebellion occurred. The Red River
rebellion was caused when Canada gained a lot of land in Rupert s Land, this scared a lot of us as
we feared for our culture, and land rights under the control of the Canadiens. Because of this, we
banded together to create a provisional government to make terms for entering their colony. This
created the province of Manitoba, a new name for the same home.
In, 1812 Scottish settlers created our colony at the junction of two rivers. In, 1836 the population
was mostly French and English MГ©tis and HBC owned our land.
The rebellion started in 1850 when the rule of the Hudson s bay company was threatened (under
attack) by the British, the Canadians, and the Americans. In 1860 they were readying to sell Rupert
s land and the Northwest to Canada, this included us. While Canada and the Hudson s Bay
Company were making a deal, the protestant s from the east (Canada) and their anger and violent
ways caused our roman catholic population to fear for their land rights, religion, and culture.

Abraham Promises
The Bible teaches that God s longing to redeem the world has always been His desire, but sinful
man has refused God s grace. The appeal to man to turn from his selfish ways dates back to the
Old Testament and is clearly displayed in the actions God puts into place with Abraham and the
formation of the nation of Israel. These activities are evident in Abraham and the nation of Israel
through promises made, examples to show His glory, and Israel s comparison to the Church today.
Promises Made
In Genesis, God promised blessings to Abraham that would carry to his descendants (Gen. 12:2 3
[NASB]).1 Through these blessings, one man and his family would benefit the whole world and
begin a process of ingathering from the darkness and disintegration ... Show more content on

As part of those activities, the Scripture clearly indicates His desire to declare Himself to all
nations, tongues, and tribes. Walter Kaiser explains that the Old Testament unfolds a plan (Gen.
12:3), a purpose (Ps. 67:1 7) and the need for participation (Exod. 19:4 6) by the nation of
Israel.11 There are three significant areas that serve as evidence of God s intentions. They are the
use of the Israelites to reach the world as a proclamation, Abraham s specific calling to become a
priestly nation, and the nation as an example.
God s plan and work are directed to the entire of humanity with His desire to save all of
mankind.12 However, man s struggle against God is apparent in events such as the attempt to
reach heaven at Babel (Gen. 11:1 9) and the universal condemnation of wickedness, which
caused the great flood (Gen. 6:5).13 Israel was designed to be a solid foundation for other
nations to turn to. Verkuyl states that even the nations who oppose God will one day celebrate
in restored fellowship.14 Israel will become the permanent presence of God s people acting and
relating with the world. God s word even makes provision to those who choose to join the nation
and accepts them as one born into the community (Exod. 12:48 49).15 While they were never to
become part of the world, Isreal was to live in the world and be set aside for the purposes of

Lean Development using a Money Machine mindset from an IT business owner s perspective
Back in early 2008, I was the happy advocate of starting my own business, an information
technology (IT) consulting firm. It was a partnership that focused on small computer support,
network engineering, network design/implementation, computer training. Our marketed tag line
was to provide proactive enterprise level IT management and support to small businesses at a
fraction of the cost. I was very anxious and eager to learn about business, so I did vast research and
internet searches on traditional business plans, visited business incubators, spoke with the local
Chamber of Commerce, and had conversations with other small business owners.
At this time, a colleague, whom soon after became a friend and business mentor, introduced me to
alternative methods of creating a business start up and stepping away from the traditional business
plan. Unknowingly, my firm became part of an up and coming movement or methodology, known
as Lean Start up or Lean Development. According to the decades old formula, you write a
business plan, pitch it to investors, assemble a team, introduce a product, and start selling as hard
as you can. Unfortunately, by following this practice 75% of all start ups fail according to Harvard
Business School s Shikhar Ghosh [Blank 2013]. Using the traditional business plan approach, one

Ernest Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants Essay
Ernest Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants
Ernest Hemingway s short story Hills Like White Elephants relies on symbolism to carry the
theme of either choosing to live selfishly and dealing with the results, or choosing a more difficult
and selfless path and reveling in the rewards. The symbolic materials and the symbolic characters
aid the reader s understanding of the subtle theme of this story. The hillssymbolize two different
decisions that the pregnant girl in our story is faced with. Both hills are completely opposite of
each other, and each hill or decision has a consequence that is just as different as the appearance of
the hills.

things all the time. Hemingway uses her to show a young, pregnant girl trying to decide if she
wants to remain carefree like the American or if she wants to be like the woman and be wise and

final decision; If she has her baby she will ruin her youthfulness and destroy her romantic
relationship with the American, but it very well could transform her into a woman who is wise,
mature and focused on someone other than herself. The girl is getting tired of the same routine
of drinks and a social life and she decides to do something very different. She decides to keep her
baby, to become a woman and leave her carefree and childish ways behind. However, the only
thing that is standing between the girl and the life she wants for herself and her child is the
American. The American is a selfish individualist that wants to do things his way and only lives to

God of Carnage
Annette vs. Nancy When taking the time to examine the characters of Annette Reille, from the
play, and Nancy Cowan, from Carnage, it is easy to find their likenesses, but there are also some
noticeable differences. One of the main reasons for all of these differences is merely different
interpretations of the character by different readers. For example, the tone in which certain lines
are said or in the way a certain action is portrayed can change the whole personality of a character.
When reading, the reader portrays each of the characters as he/ she believes them to be, but then
another reader could have a differenceof opinion and change the whole attitude; this was the case if
you consider the readers to be myself and Kate Winslet.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When looking at this line, Brilliant (Reza1262), from before, the difference is shown
wonderfully. In Carnage , Nancy isn t stating Penelope is really brilliant; she has that good for
you tone in her voice and could honestly care less about the cobbler. Kate Winslet uses that tone
of voice to show her apathy, but also does one simple gesture that tops it off; she raises her
eyebrows. Although it doesn t sound like much, everyone knows that look of annoyance, and that is
exactly the one Nancy gave to Penelope in the movie. Later in the play, after shuffling through
Veronique s art books, Annette once again agrees with what Veronique has to say. After Veronique
makes the comment about taking her children to concerts, museums, and making them read and
saying We re eccentric enough to believe in the pacifying abilities of culture! (Reza1267) about
her and her husband; Annette says And you re right... (Reza1267). Once again she is being very
agreeable and there is no way to know if this is her actual opinion. Annette is just too busy pleasing
Veronique. At the same moment in the play as mentioned before, the movie seems to play out
differently. Nancy does shuffle through the table full of magazines but in response to Penelope s
comment like Veronique s, she gives more of a head nod. Once again the attitude difference is
shown between Annette and Nancy in their take on the situation by something very minimal.

A Brief Note On Concentration And Surface Water
Estimating Bifenthrin Concentration in Surface water in Urban Sacramento.
Introduction
Pyrethroid insecticides have replaced organophosphates (OP) insecticides, such as, diazinon and
chlorpyrifos for structural pest control and landscape maintenance in most urban environments in
the United States in recent times. Pyrethroids are manufactured derivatives of pyrethrins, which are
natural insecticides that are produced by certain species of chrysanthemum. These insecticides are
neurotoxins and focus on the central nervous system of insects , thereby, making it exceptionally
viable in pest control. These chemicals are broadly utilized by professional applicators to keep
pests out of structures either as landscape application, or as perimeter treatments. Other than
professional applications which are documented, pyrethroids are also incorporated in many pest
control products that are designed for homeowners and available at retail stores, however the
utilization of these items are not all around reported documented (Moran, 2006). The combination
of these uses (professionals and homeowners) aids in the increase presence of pyrethroids on urban
landscape and structures which are later washed off to urban creeks. The most commonly suspected
modes of transport of pesticide residues from urban application sites to downstream pesticide
contamination is by means of irrigation (dry) or runoff (rain).
In spite of the fact that pyrethroid insecticides are present in a wide variety of

  • 2. The life and accomplishments of Al Capone during the... During the prohibition era of the 1920 s, if one wasn t an enemy of Alphonse (Al) Scarface Capone, was he, in many eyes, a hero? Due to his savvy street smarts and the corrupt rebellion of the decade, Al Capone was not only a popular commentary of the time, but is now a legend. His classic boy from the ghetto turned generous multi millionaire story only adds to the heroism seen in this most famous Chicagomobster. Chicago s industries, open spaces and four seasons were an enormous magnet for the 19th century Europeans looking for a home and opportunity. The frontier Chicago grew into a wonderful collection of ethnic neighborhoods Irish, Italian, Russian, Greek, German, Polish and others. In many of these communities, making beer and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These statistics are probably sensationalized, however, no man has ever brought forth the proof that Capone touched a trigger in any of them. The most that can be said is that Capone s enemies (mainly other mob leaders trying to cash in a little too much, in Capone s territory, on the prohibition law) died, that Capone s friends lived longer than the friends of other gangsters; Capones power, influence, income, and the scope of his operations grew with the hammer blows of death. It was not illegal in the 1920s to own a machine gun, so the Chicago piano quickly became one of the key tools that gangs used to maintain their influence. The situation quickly got out of control, and deteriorating became an open warfare. Hundreds of soldiers were killed on Chicago s streets, in cars and at home, and the concept of being taken for a ride took on a new meaning. Al Capone is said to have had more to do with this than any other, only because he was the main mobster around and had so much control over all the illegal practiced doings of the city. As there were many wars between the peasants and the king, there were many wars between Chicago mobs over who had control and who didn t. Robin Hood was the peasants leader, as Capone was the Chicago residents, but Chicago s king was not hated, in fact, he was adored and respected by many! • 3. Alice Walker Everyday Use Symbolism Alice Walker, author of the short story, Everyday Use, uses a plethora of symbolisms to depict various situations and provoke the mind of the reader to think relatively deep in analyzing her literary work. Intricately, symbolism refers to the representation of one item or idea in the form of another with an aim of creating an understandable meaning of a particular societal situation through a narration. Symbols are majorly a form of words or objects. Symbolism is a crucial literary element that is widely used by writers to present their ideologies creatively. Significantly, literature authors always have an objective to exert symbolism in their writings. Similarly, Alice Walker uses symbolism to symbolize various situations in her literature.... According to Mama s perception, the inside of the house is less comfortable than the outside, regardless of the inside being clean and the outside being dirty at times. The narrator illustrates this point when she states, A yard like this is more comfortable than most people know. (p. 494) The comfortability of the yard embraces a symbolic place of hospitality and comfort. As stated by Cropley, A favorite place is a place where we feel comfortable and relaxed. (Cropley) Comparably, the main reason why the yard is prepared is to convey hospitality for when Dee arrives. As stated in the text, I will wait for her in the yard that Maggie and I made so clean and wavy yesterday afternoon. (p. 494) Before Dee s arrival, Mama gives a vivid description of the visual aspect and cleanliness of the yard, whereas Dee is expected to be symbolically welcomed into the spotless yard, which presents comfort and hospitality. Furthermore, Mama shows an enormous preference of the yard that often gets breezes that never come inside the house. (p. 494) For instance, most of the discussion about the quilt is carried out in the yard rather than inside the house. As the narrator points out, It is not just a yard. It is like an extended living room. (p. 494) The yard was a personal space for both, Maggie and Mama, who felt open and free to discuss anything in the yard, which symbolizes the small extent of the setting where they can control their lives, relax, and clear their thoughts. The author, Mark Cropley, states .... It is your space, a space to regulate your emotions, a place to relax, calm down, and clear your mind. (Cropley) Therefore, the yard is equally as important to the quilt, since the story begins at the yard and ends at the very same place. In addition. the yard symbolizes a place of solitude and reflection. Symbolically, the yard presents the difficulties ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Distance Learning Disadvantages Looking at All Sides Distance learning is an emerging method of learning. Everyone can learn in every time at any location as long as they can access to Internet. I use distance learning as well. During the last summer vacation, I began to study how to play guitar by myself through some videos which is posted on the Internet by some professional guitarists. Now I have gotten the first level guitar certificate. The distance learning help me a lot. However, some people think distance learning is useless compared with traditional classroom. Though people have various opinions based on their experience, social roles and information from others, I still believe it is necessary to look at all sizes because it can strengthen our own opinions and reduce misunderstanding. Some of parents question about distance learning. They think distance learning is useless because it does not have supervisors like teachers. Students may be distracted by the relaxing environment at home and do not finish their homework on time. At the same time, some teachers also point out that distance learning is not as efficient as classroom because it cannot have a discussion and participation with peers and teachers. Without other students, they may lose the passion about study. What is more, Communication with others also an important lesson to students. By contrast, other students and office workers believe that distance learning can also be flexible for them. They can learn wherever ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. To His Coy Mistress By Marvell Examine the view that Marvell presents love as entirely physical Although the role of sexual intercourse within the context of love is heavily emphasized by Marvell in To His Coy Mistress , suggesting that the Carpe Diem poem presents love as solely physical is arguably hyperbolic. Marvell s structural establishment of a perpetual hypothetical implicitly addresses the nature of romantic asexual love and presents it as something fundamentally positive. This is structurally established in the first verse through Marvell s diction choice of had we and continually utilized until the twentieth line. A hypothetical context is essentially presented to the love interest addressed in the dramatic monologue, where Marvell and his lover have enough World and Time and her sexual coyness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ultimately, this is due to Marvell and the addressee lacking the time to pursue these endeavours. This becomes clear to the reader in verse 21, where Marvell metaphorically alludes to the Olympian deity Apollo, through the symbolic establishment of time s winged Charriot hurrying near . Within the context of the poem, this metaphor ultimately introduces a sharp tonal shift between the hypothetical nature of the poem and the realism of the current situation. The shift in tone is further enforced by Marvell s employment of the motif of death in line 27, where the grotesque imagery of worms essentially deflowering his lover in the grave establishes juxtaposing connotations to Marvell s hypothetical promise to love his mistress until the end of time in verse 10. Furthermore, it reinforces the critical lack of time Marvell and the addressee have together as the lover will inevitably die, inherently providing an essential argument to the addressee to indulge in sexual intercourse with ... While a great amount of women hid and did what they were told, some women fought for their rights and took a stand. For some women, this included getting a medical degree, or doing public speaking. During the 1800 s, there were multiple women that fought for women s rights by sticking up for themselves and not letting people down grade them for being female. • 27. Rhetorical Analysis Of Barrack Obama s Met Barack Obama July 27, 2004, was the night America met Barack Obama. This was the night that Obama, a member of the Illinois Senate at the time, spoke as the keynote speaker at the Democratic National Convention. Obama is widely known for his and grand speeches that bring tears of hope and joy to many Americans eyes. To be able to produce such strong emotions, a speaker must put forth a speech that has all aspects of The Rhetoric, Ethos, pathos, logos, and the five canons, as a well as use another theory called Narrative Paradigm to register with the audience. Barrack Obama s 2004 DNC speech become widely successful as it created hope and national unity throughout Americas with the help of Obama s use of The Rhetoric and Narrative Paradigm Theory. The Rhetoric is a theory created by Aristotle; can be defined by Aristotle himself as an ability, in each particular case, to see the available means of persuasion . This theory holds three proofs to its name, ethos, pathos, and logos. The key to a successful speech is holding all three of these proofs in the work. Ethos is the character and credibility that the speaker holds. Pathos is what kind of emotional connection the speaker makes with the audience. And Logos is how clear and rational the speaker s argument is (Wenzel, 2017). Obama has all three proofs represented in his speech. Obama s Ethos or his credibility comes from the fact that he was chosen as the keynote speaker at the DNC. While at the time he was a not widely known politician, the fact that he was picked by presidential nominee, John Kerry. The way Obama carries himself with pride and confidence; leading the audience to believe that he truly is just that. If Obama made this same exact speech on the street people would not give him one minuet of their time but because the DNC is a huge event held for the presidential elections, that automatically gives him creditability. Obama uses pathos by telling the story of his parents growing up. He tells the audience about how his father grew up in rural Kenya, herding goats, and eventually worked his way to a scholarship in a magical place: America (Obama, 2004). What Is The Final Chapter Of Nickel And Dimed The final chapter of Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich, Evaluation , states about low income families being almost invisible to the mid to high income families. This observation is valid because walking around places, Walmart, Kmart, etc., a person cannot distinguish what class the person is in. Poorer families are also rarely portrayed on television or other forms of entertainment, unless the show is about people getting arrested, since most people only find higher class, comfortable people interesting. Also, everything in society is unequal, a person can sit at a desk and order people around all day, without moving, and earn a salary of at least $60,000, while the individual or individuals who get stuck with all of his work, are getting paid around $25,000 a year. Yes, everyone starts out at a low on the totem pole job at a company and they work their way up the food chain to get to the job they want, but the lower class gets deemed lazy and or a high school dropout if they are seen waiting tables or working at a fast food place or retail store past the age of 25 30. • 32. Global Interdependence And The Existence Of Large... Global interdependence and the existence of large multinational enterprises create a need for global accounting. Multinational corporations are companies that carry out business in more than one country other than their home. Companies go global for many reasons: to increase sales, improve profits and innovation. Decentralization is essential for the creation of large firms, because CEOs are otherwise constrained in the number of decisions they can make directly it is therefore critical for enabling productive firms to grow large and to take market share from unproductive ones. Because trust is strongly linked with more decentralization, it in turn affects productivity. The absence of trust, in developing countries like Brazil, China, and India, explains why productive firms do not grow large and drive out unproductive firms from the market place. Decentralization presents problems within itself. With this, Managementaccounting is a system of measuring and providing operational and financial information that drives management s actions in areas of actions and behavior. Unlike financial, managements accounting generates reports for personnel inside the organization, not stakeholders. It s purpose is to an organization reach its strategic objectives. • 33. The Perception Of Social Behavior In Bartleby, The Scrivener In Bartleby, The Scrivener, Bartleby serves as the main character with his distinct nature that everyone is trying to decipher. Despite the attention around Bartleby, much of the story also revolves around the narrator, the lawyer, who tells the story through his perspective; this implies that the lawyer s ideology and perception of societal norms shape the interactions between the lawyer and Bartleby but also how the story is told. Take for example, if the lawyer disregards Bartleby and fires him on the spot, this story would have ended rather quickly and been much different than it actually is. With this said, the lawyer s peculiar attraction to Bartleby s strange behavior can be explained by the lawyer s innate ideas of social norms and instruction that stems from the behavior of the other scriveners and his own experiences. Bartleby s behavior is considered a deviation from the normbecause of the conforming behaviors of the other scriveners, Turkey, Nippers and Ginger Nut. As scriveners, they listen to their employer, the lawyer, and do as they were told. Their actions and reactions build the idea of society and how a scrivenershould behave. • 38. Language Bias 1. When writing a research report, there are five main issues of language bias . They include but, are not limited to, gender, age, sexuality, ethnicity, and disabilities. Gender is language bias, as it is a cultural term referring to social roles, which may be perceived as offensive. For example, referring to a female firefighter as a fireman implies that the female is actually a male firefighter. To avoid this, writers should ensure that they are using terms to avoid sexist bias. Next, age is language bias as a writer might think that someone is elderly because they are 50 but in reality, it is not accurate to call someone elderly until they are 65 or older. Those that are 50 could find this offensive. Thus to avoid this, a writer should always include an age range or refer to the APA manual when placing people into age categories.... For example, an author should not write about how being a gay man is a sexual preference, as it seems like it was his choice. More so, ethnicity is also language bias. It is best to refer to the geographic locations one is from, as ethnic labels can be offensive or harmful. Writers can avoid using slang language by aiming to identify persons by nation of origin. Lastly, language objectifying a person s condition or disability is language bias. Language including negative labels, or slurs should not be used, as they are harmful and offensive. If one needs to write about a condition, it is advised they place focus on the individual and not the disability. God of Carnage Annette vs. Nancy When taking the time to examine the characters of Annette Reille, from the play, and Nancy Cowan, from Carnage, it is easy to find their likenesses, but there are also some noticeable differences. One of the main reasons for all of these differences is merely different interpretations of the character by different readers. For example, the tone in which certain lines are said or in the way a certain action is portrayed can change the whole personality of a character. Introduction Pyrethroid insecticides have replaced organophosphates (OP) insecticides, such as, diazinon and chlorpyrifos for structural pest control and landscape maintenance in most urban environments in the United States in recent times. Pyrethroids are manufactured derivatives of pyrethrins, which are natural insecticides that are produced by certain species of chrysanthemum. These insecticides are neurotoxins and focus on the central nervous system of insects , thereby, making it exceptionally viable in pest control. These chemicals are broadly utilized by professional applicators to keep pests out of structures either as landscape application, or as perimeter treatments. Other than professional applications which are documented, pyrethroids are also incorporated in many pest control products that are designed for homeowners and available at retail stores, however the utilization of these items are not all around reported documented (Moran, 2006). The combination of these uses (professionals and homeowners) aids in the increase presence of pyrethroids on urban landscape and structures which are later washed off to urban creeks.
