How Does Fielding Present The Character Of The Novel A...
In the novel A Passage to India by E M Forster there many different character that each reflect ideas,
some of the ideas would be relevant to a Victorian audience. There are a plenty of ideas that reflects
the attitudes and values common in the early 20th Century. Forster uses each of the characters to
represent different ideas and values towards issues like racism, which is present throughout the novel.
Cyril Fielding is a very interesting and unique character in the novel A Passage to India , because
some of his ideas wouldn t be relevant to a Victorian audience and he has a more modern attitude.
Cyril Fielding is an interesting character because he is the most associated to the Forster out of all the
characters; the character portrays Forster s attitudes and values at the time he wrote the book (1924).
Amongst all the Englishmen who are living in Chandrapore Fielding isn t very successful in
comparison in developing relationships with the native Indians. Fielding isn t a very racist character
and doesn t share the same views as characters like Rony. Fielding is an educator however he is less
comfortable in the usual teacher student environment; he prefers a more one on one teaching style. His
preference in teaching style shows that Fielding (and Forster) see the world as a bunch of unique
individuals who connect with each other through respect and courtesy for each other. Fielding s
attitude towards teaching the Indians show s that he values as intellects as well

Braveheart Speech: In depth Analysis Regarding Figurative Language Braveheart is a historical drama
epic film from 1995. The film was nominated for ten Academy Awards and won five. The film is non
fictional and depicts the events of William Wallace, a Scottish hero who led the Scots during the First
War of Scottish Independence against England. However, despite the historical inaccuracies cited by
critics, the film was intriguing and successful considering the box office success and award
nominations as mentioned earlier. Throughout the film, Wallace inspires his comrades using rhetoric
to stand up and fight back against the English. Just ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And I see a whole army of my countrymen here in defiance of tyranny (Braveheart). In this statement,
Wallace uses rhetoric to address the crowd. Metonymy is used in this sentence, the use of the term
tyranny substitutes what they are actually fighting against on the battlefield, which are the English.
Wallace uses the word tyranny because in the film, the English were ruling over the Scottish and the
customs in which they ruled, the Scottish saw it as tyranny. The term tyranny establishes logos
because it provides the audience reason for what they are about to fight and possibly die for. There is
also an appeal to pathos in this sentence because a term like tyranny carries a negative connotation
along with it. Kenneth S. Zagacki, a professor in communications at North Carolina State University
and Patrick Boleun Fitzgerald, a professor in philosophy at Lawrence University explain this
phenomenon: Emotions like anger are important to Aristotle s theory of Rhetoric, although it is
important to understand that there is a distinction between the emotional state of anger and angry
rhetoric. Angry rhetoric, however it is performed publicly, tries to evoke anger in one s audience, as
Aristotle himself demonstrates (4). In this case, a powerful term like tyranny creates that anger
because of its meaning and

Taking A Look At World Health Organization
World Health Organization estimates, there are 59.8 million health care worker worldwide,
representing 12% of the working population globally. About two thirds of them (39.5 million) provide
health services; the other one third (19.8 million) are management and support workers, which
includes those working in ancillary departments such as laundry departments (Kumar et al., 2014 and
Goniewicz et al., 2012). Hospital laundry workers are exposed to various health problems and
diseases; chief among these, as mentioned in previous studies, are musculoskeletal disorders such as
(muscular aches, pain and discomfort), respiratory disorder such as (asthma, bronchitis), Skin
disorders such as dermatitis. In addition, they may also be exposed to occupational diseases like
Hepatitis B infection, HIV/AIDS and other infections to which other health workers are prone while
doing their job (Ilesanmi et al., 2014; Tinubu et al., 2010; Bello et al., 2009; Imperial College

In Egypt despite the significant role these health personnel perform in the hospital, they are often
neglected and basic preventive measures including education and training for health and safety are

Mythical Roles Of Krishna In Mahabharata
In light of recent events (?? What s the name ??) at iitk as well as new clubs like Bhakti Vedanta club I
was forced to collect my thoughts on why I don t find Krishna in Bhagwad Gita, even remotely useful
as an ethical role model. First lets see the historical context in which the book was written. If you are
the sort of person who thinks that _Mahabharata_ was not just a folklore, probably inspired by some
old war around modern Delhi, constantly being rewritten and reimagined in oral transmission over the
years by numerous bards, then I request you to stop reading any further as it will be a waste of time
for both of us. Although I haven t read the _Mahabharata_ in its entirety, I personally find it a fabulous
of epic about the dilemma of power and probably, the most harrowing of the ancient epics. And just
like the Homeric epics, I find no reason, why _Mahabharata_ hasn t been reworked heavily over the
years. My favorite aspect about _Mahabharata_ as a story is there is no single party line on any
subject. Characters and their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I am surprised, why Krishna s wisdom don t seem suspicious to most people and Arjuna seldom finds
any sympathy for his initial doubts about the war? To me, _Mahabharata_ comes out decidedly anti
war, with no one actually victorious . I find Steven Pinker s basic thesis in _Better Angels of our
Nature_ that humans over the years are orienting away from violence and better moral sense,
extremely compelling. You might say, we had Ashoka and Buddha popularizing non violence much
before that. This is true, but one must realize this was only a tiny blip in the years of wars all over the
land now considered India. I would like to make it clear that my intention is not to offend people but
to unsettle people into thinking more deeply about the milieu around them. Hopefully the believers
may find wisdom to forgive my indiscretions, in their

The Courtroom Trial That Can Affect The Verdict Verdicts
There are numerous factors in a courtroom trial that can significantly affect the verdict reached by
jurors and can potentially influence whether the perpetrator of crime is ultimately convicted or is
acquitted. In this essay I will explore several of these factors including how the personal
characteristics of the defendant (e.g. attractiveness, gender and race) persuasion techniques (e.g. order
of testimony) and jury characteristics can determine the conviction of a criminal.
Psychological research has shown that the attractiveness can influence jury decisions with studies
demonstrating an attractive bias in that attractive defendants tend to receive more lenient sentences for
similar crimes carried out by less attractive people. For example, Castellow et al (1990) aimed to test
the effect of the attractiveness of a defendant on guilty verdicts. This was done by conducting a lab
experiment in which 145 students were given details of a sexual harassment case and then shown
images of a defendant victim. These images had been previously categorised as attractive/unattractive
by a panel as perceptions of attractiveness are mainly consistent between genders and races (Eisenthal
et al. 2006). It was found that the combination of an attractive victim unattractive defendant created
the highest percentage of guilty verdicts (83%) when they were asked whether the defendant was
guilty of sexual harassment. However, only 41% guilty verdicts were reported when the defendant was

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Bipolar Disorder

Assignment Bipolar disorder is a chronic mental illness, and is characterized by alternating between
elevated moods such as mania or the milder condition hypomania and periods of depression. Bipolar
disorder often shows during late teens or early adult years. At least half of all cases start before the age

Lysander s Masculinity In The Disappointment
The 17th century provides a treasure trove of literary greatness. The authors cultivated such a tight
circle so that everyone s work kept in dialogue. Aphra Behn uses her poem, The Disappointment, as
an opportunity to respond to common tropes found in male authored writing. In lines 111 140, Behn
dismantles Lysander s masculinity in The Disappointment through comparisons to figures from Greek
mythology, thus creating situational irony around his character s ego. In stripping Lysander of all his
awful fires (ll. 113) in this selection, Behn reveals Lysander s true feelings of impotence and, by
extension, women.
Behn immediately ties Lysander to a warrior, a traditionally masculine figure, with his name. Lysander
refers to the Spartan admiral in Greek mythology. Lysander s name undermines his masculinity
because the fierce and aggressive reputation of the Spartan culture does not align with Lysander s
sexual performance. Behn uses this identification to make him seem like he is an ideal romantic
partner, but she describes him as [the] god of her desires,/ Disarmed of all his awful fires/ And cold as
flowers bathed in the morning dew. (ll. 112 114) Behn refers to Lysander as a god and foreshadows the
connections to other Greek figures later on in the selection. The fires Behn mentions represent
Lysander s sexual passion. He is disarmed of them and bathes in the morning dew, which is a
euphemism for his premature ejaculation. He is fiery, passionate beforehand, and ashamed of himself
after. Impotence is a negative quality and does not fit the typical image of masculinity. Behn uses his
impotence and Cloris s beauty to make allusions to mythological figures to provide further insight into
their characters.
After he proves to be impotent, Cloris runs away. Behn explains, Like lightning through the grove she
hies,/ Or Daphne from the Delphic god. (ll. 121 122) Behn hyperbolizes Cloris s speed by comparing
it to lightning emphasizes the chimerical tone in these final stanzas. The Delphic god, Apollo,
aggressively pursued a nymph, Daphne, in Greek mythology. Apollo is the god of many things, but
one of them being plagues. The nymph is a mythological spirit of nature imagined as a beautiful
maiden.

Essay about Birth and Demise in The League of Nations
Birth and Demise in The League of Nations
They say time is a great teacher. How true. History has taught us that peace must be kept at all costs.
The tragic story of the League of Nations centers around the man who conceived it and offered it to
the world. The man who developed its charter and who died from exhaustion after his own country,
the United States, refused to ratify it in the senate . On November eleventh, 1918 an armistice was
declared in Europe. The President of the United States, Woodrow Wilson, saw this as an opportunity
to form an international organization of peace. The league was brought forth to provide security
against future wars. However, the league did not fulfill the hopes of it s founders, it did not ... Show

The American President s speech was the force that leads to the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on
June 28, 1919. Conversely, after congress had voted, only three of Wilson s fourteen points were
accepted without compromise and six of the others were rejected altogether. The reason for this
uncertainty by the congress was because, the Fourteen Points were all couched in broad, rather vague
terms, well designed to serve their propaganda purpose, but hardly suited to the negotiations of which
in the sequel, they were to become the basis . Wilson wanted the League of Nations because he
believed that World Wars would continue to occur as long as each nation was responsible for their
own defense. Wilson wanted the nations of the world to stand together in the League of Nations, and
promise to defend the territory and freedom of any member attacked by another nation. Wilson
believed that in order to keep peace the League needed the authority to impose economic sanctions
against aggressor states but the League did not have any military forces to back up these economic
threats. He believed that even a powerful nation, knowing that it would face combined opposition of
all the powerful nations, would not go to war. In Europe, Wilson also met some confrontation with the
Fourteen points. The

Examples Of Evil In The Crucible
The Smoldering Evil of the Crucible Arthur Miller s The Crucible is based on the 19 people massacred
in the Salem Witch Trials for believing in witchcraft; they, like some modern day people, are
persecuted and sometimes executed for their beliefs. Does the novel plagued with adultery, thief, and
execution depict the characters as evil? What defines evil? Evil is what is morally wrong, sinful, or
wicked. Danforth, Williams, and Parris are evil characters. Danforth is morally wrong for executing
John Proctor after being told Abigail is lying. Second, Abigail Williams is wicked for condemning the
19 to their deaths to save her own reputation. Lastly, though Danforth, Williams, and Parris are
morally wrong and wicked, Rev. Parris is the evilest because beating Tituba is morally wrong, needing
gold is the sin of greed, and withholding Abigail s offenses keeps his reputation in a wicked way. ...

An Essay On The Republican Party
The Republican Party has a total of 18 US presidents that were in office, the most of any political
party to date. The Republican Party started with Abraham Lincoln and working its way down to
George W Bush. The first start of the Party was in February, 1854, when antislavery Whigs met
together to discuss a formation of a new political party. One such meeting on March 20th, 1854, in
Wisconsin, is remembered as the Founding meeting of the Republican Party. The Civil War made the
Republican Party victorious, but by 1876, the Republican Party had lost control of the South, but it
continued to dominate the presidency until the election of FDR in 1933. Its humble beginnings began
its triumphant start in its victories in congress as well as the world.
In a small school house in Wisconsin, the year 1854, a small group of abolitionists joined together to
create what is now known as the Republican Party. The group was full of antislavery Whigs, state
powered governmental thinking democrats, and Free soilers bent on removing slavery from the United
States. The day the group was actually founded was on July 6th, 1854. The founders of this new
political party were Amos Truck, Horace Greeley, Salmon Chase and Charles Sumner. The word
Republican appealed to those who recalled Jeffersonian republicanism . They were also called the
GOP, or The Grand Old Party, and dates back to 1875. In the Party s first nominating convention, in

Rjr Nabisco Case Study
The case study of the RJR Nabisco looks at many factors that went into one of the most complex
leveraged buyouts in history. Several players were involved in the bidding of the company itself:
KKR, First Boston, Forstmann Little, and Management Group. The main factor of the successful
acquisition of RJR is dependent on the quality of the bidding team. Looking at KKR, their strategy
was to recruit every significant player so that the other bidding groups would not be able to retain
them. They retained Drexel Burnham Lambert, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, and Wasserstein
Perella as dealer managers for the tender offer. This left the management Shearson bidding group with
only Salomon Brothers and First Boston as significant access to capital markets, however First Boston
shortly left as it was preparing for its own bid. Experts felt that with only Salomon on its team, it
would be difficult finding an outlet for billions of dollars in bonds that would have to be sold to
finance any buyout of RJR. Forstmann Little s bidding group strategy was to entice corporate clients
to join their bidding group with the idea of pre selling RJR s different business segments to them, but
it did not work out in the end because RJR s board objected to any advance selling of RJR s
businesses which implied that Forstmann s corporate backers had to present themselves as mere
investors in the bid, and not acquirers of businesses. In the end, KKR won with its Get Them All
strategy worked in their favor in the bidding process. Despite having the higher bid $112 per share
compared to KKR s bid of $109 per share, having industry experts as members, and being on good
terms with the board members, traditional factors did not determine the winner. KKR won because of
the following factors: The Break up Factor, or keeping the company intact; The Equity Factor, or
provide existing shareholders with an option to participate in the buyout and thus share in any future
KKR profits from the transaction; Financing Structure, where KKR was offering $500 million more
equity than the management group; Employment Commitment, where KKR s plan of offering

Document A shows that Mansa Musa brought approximately 24,000 pounds of gold and musicians,
royal guard, flag bearers, doctors, and teachers in caravans. A reason why Mansa Musa brought many
different types of people with him is because he traveled a large section of land, bringing people with
different specialties could have given him an advantage when he visited different types of land. He
could show different areas how great his city was and services could have been given in return for
Mansa Musa s crew. To add on, Document B shows the trade route that Mansa Musa most likely took
on his journey. When looked at, it intersects many trade routes. At the intersection he could have
traded goods that his kingdom could not obtain, which is good for his kingdom s economy. Using the
gold that he had, if he did not have any goods left, he could have given gold in return. Likewise,
Mansa Musa followed existing trade routes, so he knew that the trade route existed and chose to take
it. Past kings could have came back with special goods and made Mali grow, which is something that
he would have wanted to gain power. Correspondingly, in Document E, Al Umari states, ...This has
been the state of affairs for about twelve years until this day by reason of the large amount of gold
which they brought into Egypt and spent there. Al Umari was talking about Egypt, and Egypt was
where Mansa Musa crossed on the way to Mecca. Mansa Musa spent most of his gold, left many gifts,
and people made many profits out of him. This shows another reason why Mansa Musa brought much
gold. He most likely wanted to help Egyptians and show Egyptians that he is the best and whenever he
visits again or needs help; Egyptians should come and get him. The economic benefit of this would be
that when the Egyptians would come with anything that Mansa Musa needs, Egyptians would see

Violence, Power, and Goals in the Hebrew Bible and The...
Violence is a means to an end. Violence is not something most humans resort to for enjoyment.
Violence is, however, the right thing to be done in certain situations. With violence, comes great
power. Power and violence walk together, hand in hand. When violence is exhibited, the power of the
individual is shown to those around him. In both the Hebrew Bible and The Iliad, violence is depicted
as a mode to reach goals. The reason for this is that violence allows an individual or a deity to flaunt
their powers, while they simultaneously achieve their personal and communal ambitions. Just like how
mortals have their own goals, deities also have an agenda. God, in the Hebrew Bible, has only two
goals: to have humans obey Him blindly and to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sacrifices are, in nature, very violent. Innocent blood is spilled to please the vengeful God. In Exodus
12, the Lord struck down all the first born in the land of Egypt, from the first born of Pharaoh who sat
on the throne the first born of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the first born of the cattle
(Exodus 12:29). God did all that just because the Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let the Israelites leave
his country. The immense sacrifice of the first borns of man and beast was an act of violence that led
the exodus of the Israelites. The mass murder of the Egyptian people and livestock also proves to the
Pharaoh the great power of God, a power that would have remained unseen if not for the plagues and
the executions. For after the Pharaoh witnessed the death of at least one man or one beast in each
Egyptian s household, he said, Up, depart from among my people...Go, worship the Lord as you said
(Exodus 12:31). With this final act of violence, God helped reach the Israelites communal goal: to
leave the oppressive Egypt and to enter the liberal Promise Land of Canaan. Because humans were
created in God s image, it makes perfect sense that humans will use violence as a way to achieve their
own goals, just like what God does. In I Samuel, David had one goal during the Goliath episode: to let
this whole assembly (the soldiers) know that the Lord can give victory without sword or spear. For

Angela Carter s Bloody Chamber
In Angela Carter s Bloody Chamber, the unnamed narrator is an underprivileged heroine. At the
beginning of the text the heroine is flashing back to the night before her wedding. She is preparing
herself to be married to a very powerful, respected and wealthy older rich man, The Marquis. The
Heroine s mother does not approve but cannot stop her. The Marquis showers the young Heroine, only
seventeen years old, with many gifts. The heroine pursues the marriage and soon after moves into The

The Marquis has acquired several wives in the past decade. All three wives have mysteriously
vanished within days after their marriage to The Marquis. The Heroine admits to her mother that she
does not love The Marquis, but she wants to marry him anyways. She is certain that he can give her all
the luxurious items she has ever wanted. However, she finds herself in competition with The Marquis
deceased wives, the opera singer, the model and the Romanian Countess. All three women were
exquisitely talented and beautiful. The young Heroine only seventeen states, Married three times with
my own brief lifetime to three different graces, now, as if to demonstrate the eclecticism of his taste,
he has invited me to join his gallery of beautiful women (Carter 10). It is apparent that the narrator
sees herself as a possession. The Marquis just wants to add her to his collection of women, literally.
The Marquis showers the Heroine with expensive gifts. The Marquis gives the Heroine a ruby choker.
The choker is a symbolism of sexual violence and objectification. The Heroine says, His wedding gift,
clasp round my throat. A choker of rubies two inches wide, like an extraordinary precious slit throat
(Carter 11). The narrator describes the piece of jewelry with such constraints. The ruby necklace
makes the Heroine feel like a hostage, like she is something that can be owned.

Communication and Why We Need Effective Communication
Introduction
With every interaction, whether active or passive, we find ourselves communicating with other people.
Even our silence connotes some intention, which others may interpret at their discretion. Whether by
artifact or by attendance, every human being constantly participates in the process of communication
Defining Communication
Communication means exchange of ideas, views, opinion, understanding, feelings, emotions, facts or
information between two or more persons by any sources or medium.
Communication is not only the essence of being human, but also a vital property of life... John A.

The importance of communication is best understood when there is a lack of it. Listening,
understanding and interpreting are as much integral to communication as words verbal, written or
gestured. How we communicate or express ourselves goes a great way towards determining how our
expressions are interpreted.
To quote Karl Popper, It is impossible to speak in such a way that you cannot be misunderstood .
Faulty or incomplete communication can completely mar the purpose of communicating and may
result in damaging consequences. This is where understanding the importance of communication and
communicating the right way comes into picture. Not everyone is equally endowed with the ability to
effectively express himself and this is where the importance of communication skills can be truly
fathomed. The importance of communication is equal in every walk of like, be it in personal,
professional or social life.
Components of Communication
Communication is effective when a concise and clear message is delivered well, received successfully,
and understood fully. The process of communication has the following distinct components: the sender
the message the medium the receiver feedback. The Communication Process

The Negative Effects Of Marijuana
In today s society, Marijuana has become one of the most widespread illegal drugs. It continues to be
the most abused substance among adolescents. By the time these young people graduate from high
school, more than 40 percent of them will have tried marijuana at least once. The main chemical used
in marijuana that causes addiction and creates the emotional high feeling is called
tetrahydrocannabinol or THC. This chemical is known to encourage the release of dopamine, which
stimulates the area of the brain connected with pleasure, the THC in marijuana can cause many
negative side effects later. The younger the youths, the more damaging it could be for them to use the

Amy Tan s The Joyluck Club Essay
Even though people do not read books anymore, stories still travel amongst people. Whether these
stories are anecdotes between friends, or historical lessons from parent to child, stories pass around
like a ball in a game of catch. However, not many stories possess aspects that allow them to hold the

the story of their life from their own perspectives and how the events they encountered in the past

The reason that this story is powerful, however, is because Rose changes. When Ted tells her that he
wants to have a divorce, she sulks for a few days, but then realizes her problem. Calling him over, she
gives him the divorce papers, his name still there, but lacking hers. His shock was appropriate, since
the viewers too felt the same surprise. The story takes a powerful turn, as Rose felt nothing, no fear, no
anger (219). She no longer feared disappointing him and being different from him. She developed
from the little girl who would listen to others, into an adult who made her own decisions. She finally
learned, like her mother, how to swim against the tide. The development of Rose s character aids the
story into being powerful, but there was also another aspect that makes this true. Moreover, Rose s
story is powerful because it holds misfortune that makes the reader upset. Powerful stories do more
than just develop characters; they make the reader understand the character. They make the reader
agonize over the pounds of misfortune piling onto a character s back, forcing them to carry excess
burdens. The two main hardships that burden Rose are the death of her younger brother and her
divorce. Going to the beach with her family, her mother assigns the task of watching over her
youngest sibling, Bing. At first, she does a good job of doing so, teasing him in the process, adding the
sweet comic relief that gives the reader time to laugh and

Why Did Bismarck Use Nationalism Dbq
Throughout the course of history, Nationalism has been by many countries and nations. Nationalism

Alexander III used Nationalism to divide the people of Russia, even though his intention was to unify
the people. Alexander III came to power after his father, Alexander II, was assassinated. He quickly
came to power and wanted to quickly set reform in Russia, since it is believed that his father s reforms
caused his assassination(Axelrod,1994). When he put his reforms into place, he developed a concept
of extreme Russian nationalism called Russification. He used Russification to develop a purely
Russian nation. Alexander III used Russification to get rid of any nationality in Russia that is not
Russian or any person in Russia that does not support his reforms. Along with secular reform,
religious toleration was sacrificed during this period. Russia s Jews, perennial targets, were persecuted
more harshly than ever, as were Russo Germans, Poles, and Finns, whose crime was their failure to
have been born 100 percent Russian (1994). Alexander III started to become extremely harsh in
getting rid of people that are not purely Russian, even though they did not have a choice to be 100
percent Russian or not. In doing this, he made Russia a uniform nation with no diversity, dividing the
people who were 100 percent Russian from the people who are not Russian. By using Russification,
Alexander III actually divided the nation of Russia, even though his intentions

When I Came To Diversity Essay
I always thought that I was an expert when it came to diversity. My mom is from the tropical islands

Filipina, part Czech, part American I must qualify as some kind of international hybrid and therefore
embody the very definition of diversity. Right?
Not exactly.
To say I experienced culture shock when, smack in the middle of my junior year, my dad s job moved
us to Paris, is an understatement. Suddenly, Memphis Beale Street was replaced by the Champs
Elysées, and the Memphis pyramid, home of the Bass Pro Shop megastore, turned into the Arc de

At this moment, I realized my ignorance.
Although I had anticipated a departure from the fairly homogenous crowd at my former school, I

I knew, however, I could not stand by with my old mindset and let this sea of diversity overwhelm me.

A Study On The Twi Program
The TWI program was for 8 hours a day for 200 days, while comparison classrooms operated 6 hours
a day for 180 days. Teachers did not differ significantly in their backgrounds or training, although
TWI teachers were more likely to have a Master s degree (30% to 6% and be bilingual (50% to 25%).
The TWI program had a week of English by teacher and assistant, and a week of Spanish by a Spanish
teacher and assistant, with both sets collaborating to plan curricula and assessment. The major
challenge of the study was that it was difficult to ensure that literacy tests in English and Spanish were
entirely comparable. Also, some of the tests used were experimental and turned out to be too difficult
for most children, including in post test. Neither program was pure immersion because the children
were given language support on the side.
The results were positive and showed advancement for all children, with Spanish language children in
TWI benefiting the most in comparison to their peers in the EI group. Specifically, the Spanish
language children improved in their receptive vocabulary , with effect sizes of over half a deviation.
TWI s effect of producing greater gains in receptive language than in expressive was considered by
the authors to be one of the most significant findings of the study, and it was thought that further
research could determine how to extend these benefits to expressive language. Three out of four of the
measures favored English language outcomes in TWI,

The Negative Impact Of The Puritan Society In The Crucible
The Puritans were a religious minority group who believed that the Church of England needed to be
purified of the influence of Catholicism. The basis for the Puritan s belief was an emphasis on the
righteousness and sovereignty of God. They believed God directed all things by exercise, and directed
all things to an intelligent end. In the Puritan life they believed in staying true to the divine law but
doing everything in moderation. The Crucible shows the exact opposite of what the Puritan life is
supposed to be like. Some people had to suffer execution because of the rumors that were spread
throughout the community. In The Crucible they experienced things such as false rumors that were
spread throughout Salem. Not only did the things that they did cause turmoil, but it also caused a
negative impact to the Puritan society as a whole.
Faith was a central part of the Puritan experience, and this is where all other aspects of their society
emerged. In the Puritan Society, religious beliefs shaped early American relationships, between the
parents and their children. Based on their spiritual tribalism, Godly parents were more likely than
ungodly parents to produce Godly children. The New Testament was their model and their devotion so
great that it was spread throughout their entire society.
Great pains were endured to warn their members and especially their children of the dangers of the
world. Reading the bible was a necessity to living a pious life. The education of the next

In the novel, Phantom of the Opera, by Gaston Leroux, we are introduced to a character known to
everyone as the mysterious Opera Ghost. His character in this book is very complex.
Although the Opera Ghost is very ugly physically and mentally, through his actions, we can find much
beauty.
During the masked ball we are given, what the reader believes at the time, a very good physical
description of the Opera Ghost. At the masked ball the Opera Ghost does a perfect job imitating death.

Erik truly was ugly, not only physically, but mentally.
We are given our first example of Erik s beauty when Raoul is spying on Christine in her dressing
room. He starts to hear a beautiful sound that seems to coming all around him. He sees no one in the
room, but the music starts to get louder and more definite. A voice that unites all extremes at once,
(103), Raoul tells, without knowing of the ugliness of the character from which it comes. Raoul
continues to praise the voice as, heroically sweet..., so delicate in strength, so strong in delicacy, and
so irresistibly triumphant,(103). This clearly shows that, without knowing the physical ugliness of the
Opera Ghost, a body could enjoy his beautiful voice.
Another example of Erik s beauty comes through his love of Christine. At the end of the novel the
Opera Ghost is talking to the Persian. The Persians asks Erik why he decided to spare the live of
himself, as well as the life of his enemy, Viscount Raoul de Chagny. I(Opera Ghost), felt her tears
dropping on my forehead..., I took off my mask and she didn t die..., I then heard her say, poor,
unhappy Erik and from then on I was only a poor dog, (263). I (Erik), told her that she could marry
her young man..., it was like cutting my own heart into little pieces, (264).

Capital Pty Ltd is inquiring into the Commissioner of Tax s notice disallowing the tax deduction for

appendage of Eastfield Ltd. This being the case, it is necessary to examine the exact relationship
between Capital Pty Ltd and Eastfield Ltd and determine the likelihood of the courts lifting the
corporate veil.
Separate Entity

This is verified by the fact that all of the profits of Capital were to be distributed to Eastfield through a
dividend payment. Secondly, the subsidiary must be actively conducting the business as appointed by
the parent. Since Capital Pty Ltd was initially set up for the financing needs of Eastfield, and solely
used the workforce of Eastfield, this second criteria is met. Further, since Eastfield decided on a
strategic plan which called for a new corporate structure , essentially supplying the debt finance for
Eastfield, it can be said that Eastfield was the head and brain of this trading venture, thus meeting the
third criteria. Additionally, as Eastfield decided all decisions regarding this capital funding structure,
the 4th agency principle is met; whereby the parent company governs the venture and determining
capital structure. Since Capital earned significant interest income...from the repayment of the various
loans...undertaken by Eastfield it can be established that the parent company, Eastfield, maintained
profits through its own skill and direction towards the subsidiary. Lastly, the parent company must be
in constant and effectual control, which is confirmed by the fact that all the directors of the subsidiary
company, sit on the board of the parent company, thus establishing constant and effective control.
Through the above mentioned, it can be significantly argued that Capital and Eastfield meet all 6
requirements that

Language And The English Language
Is Language powerful? It certainly is, but is it powerful to an extent that effaces any possibility of
controlling it? The answer to this question varies from perspective to perspective, but in order to give
a more solid response to this question, we have to acknowledge that the importance of comprehending
the influence of language is critical because it is one of the most essential things in humans lives,
which automatically makes it a topic of major relevance. This paper will be focused on the perception
of language within the texts How to tame a wild tongue by Gloria Anzaldua, and Politics and the
English language by George Orwell. These texts present divergent points of view in regards to the
power of language. Anzaldua supports the idea that language has a lot of power over humans, while
George Orwell believes that humans have power over language; however, both authors use their texts
to support that idea that humans should defend their language.
Anzaldua argues that our language determines who we are or the individual we want to become. The
following portion of the text appears after Anzaldua talked about how Spanish will no longer be the
mother tongue of most Chicanos and Latinos and it supports the idea previously mentioned about
identities: So, if you want to hurt me, talk badly about my language. Ethnic identity is twin skin to
linguistic identity I am my language. . These words by Anzaldua illustrate the thought that language
shapes our identity and how we

Many problems had come to surface for electronic manufacturing companies to increase their
productivity. One of the solution is to reduce human errors in a PCB production especially before the

This project was undertaken as one of the requirements to obtain my Engineering Degree at
Universitas Katholik Atmajaya, Jakarta. The details of the project were:
PROJECT : Create and Design a checking device for single layer printed circuit board (PCB)
DURATION : December 2001 April 2002
LOCATION : Jakarta, Indonesia
NAME OF THE ORGANIZATION: Universitas Katholik Atma Jaya, Jakarta
POSITION : Final year student
CE.1.2. Background
CE.1.2.1. Nature of overall engineering project
Manufacturing, including electronics manufacturing, is a major industry in Indonesia. To be
competitive internationally, manufacturers attempt to reduce their manufacturing cost but at the same
time increase product output and quality. Most manufacturing units use human labour to undertake
quality checking, in this case to ensure the path on the printed circuit board (PCB) was not missing
and that there are no scratches. These defects would cause the PCB to be defective, in turn making the
end electronic products defective. Subsequent market recalls would cost the manufacturer a large sum
of money and reputation.
I decided to create a system for reducing human error in electronics

By avoiding media that contains graphic violence children will, in turn, be less

Fielding s attitude towards teaching the Indians show s that he values as intellects as well ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The film is non fictional and depicts the events of William Wallace, a Scottish hero who led the Scots during the First War of Scottish Independence against England. However, despite the historical inaccuracies cited by critics, the film was intriguing and successful considering the box office success and award nominations as mentioned earlier. Throughout the film, Wallace inspires his comrades using rhetoric to stand up and fight back against the English. Just ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And I see a whole army of my countrymen here in defiance of tyranny (Braveheart). In this statement, Wallace uses rhetoric to address the crowd. Metonymy is used in this sentence, the use of the term tyranny substitutes what they are actually fighting against on the battlefield, which are the English. Wallace uses the word tyranny because in the film, the English were ruling over the Scottish and the customs in which they ruled, the Scottish saw it as tyranny. The term tyranny establishes logos because it provides the audience reason for what they are about to fight and possibly die for. There is also an appeal to pathos in this sentence because a term like tyranny carries a negative connotation along with it. Kenneth S. Zagacki, a professor in communications at North Carolina State University and Patrick Boleun Fitzgerald, a professor in philosophy at Lawrence University explain this phenomenon: Emotions like anger are important to Aristotle s theory of Rhetoric, although it is important to understand that there is a distinction between the emotional state of anger and angry rhetoric. Angry rhetoric, however it is performed publicly, tries to evoke anger in one s audience, as Aristotle himself demonstrates (4). In this case, a powerful term like tyranny creates that anger because of its meaning and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What s the name ??) at iitk as well as new clubs like Bhakti Vedanta club I was forced to collect my thoughts on why I don t find Krishna in Bhagwad Gita, even remotely useful as an ethical role model. First lets see the historical context in which the book was written. If you are the sort of person who thinks that _Mahabharata_ was not just a folklore, probably inspired by some old war around modern Delhi, constantly being rewritten and reimagined in oral transmission over the years by numerous bards, then I request you to stop reading any further as it will be a waste of time for both of us. Although I haven t read the _Mahabharata_ in its entirety, I personally find it a fabulous of epic about the dilemma of power and probably, the most harrowing of the ancient epics. • 6. The Courtroom Trial That Can Affect The Verdict Verdicts There are numerous factors in a courtroom trial that can significantly affect the verdict reached by jurors and can potentially influence whether the perpetrator of crime is ultimately convicted or is acquitted. In this essay I will explore several of these factors including how the personal characteristics of the defendant (e.g. attractiveness, gender and race) persuasion techniques (e.g. order of testimony) and jury characteristics can determine the conviction of a criminal. Psychological research has shown that the attractiveness can influence jury decisions with studies demonstrating an attractive bias in that attractive defendants tend to receive more lenient sentences for similar crimes carried out by less attractive people. For example, Castellow et al (1990) aimed to test the effect of the attractiveness of a defendant on guilty verdicts. This was done by conducting a lab experiment in which 145 students were given details of a sexual harassment case and then shown images of a defendant victim. These images had been previously categorised as attractive/unattractive by a panel as perceptions of attractiveness are mainly consistent between genders and races (Eisenthal et al. 2006). It was found that the combination of an attractive victim unattractive defendant created the highest percentage of guilty verdicts (83%) when they were asked whether the defendant was guilty of sexual harassment. However, only 41% guilty verdicts were reported when the defendant was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Lysander s Masculinity In The Disappointment The 17th century provides a treasure trove of literary greatness. The authors cultivated such a tight circle so that everyone s work kept in dialogue. Aphra Behn uses her poem, The Disappointment, as an opportunity to respond to common tropes found in male authored writing. In lines 111 140, Behn dismantles Lysander s masculinity in The Disappointment through comparisons to figures from Greek mythology, thus creating situational irony around his character s ego. In stripping Lysander of all his awful fires (ll. 113) in this selection, Behn reveals Lysander s true feelings of impotence and, by extension, women. Behn immediately ties Lysander to a warrior, a traditionally masculine figure, with his name. Lysander refers to the Spartan admiral in Greek mythology. Lysander s name undermines his masculinity because the fierce and aggressive reputation of the Spartan culture does not align with Lysander s sexual performance. Behn uses this identification to make him seem like he is an ideal romantic partner, but she describes him as [the] god of her desires,/ Disarmed of all his awful fires/ And cold as flowers bathed in the morning dew. (ll. 112 114) Behn refers to Lysander as a god and foreshadows the connections to other Greek figures later on in the selection. The fires Behn mentions represent Lysander s sexual passion. He is disarmed of them and bathes in the morning dew, which is a euphemism for his premature ejaculation. He is fiery, passionate beforehand, and ashamed of himself after. Impotence is a negative quality and does not fit the typical image of masculinity. Behn uses his impotence and Cloris s beauty to make allusions to mythological figures to provide further insight into their characters. After he proves to be impotent, Cloris runs away. Behn explains, Like lightning through the grove she hies,/ Or Daphne from the Delphic god. (ll. 121 122) Behn hyperbolizes Cloris s speed by comparing it to lightning emphasizes the chimerical tone in these final stanzas. • 13. An Essay On The Republican Party The Republican Party has a total of 18 US presidents that were in office, the most of any political party to date. The Republican Party started with Abraham Lincoln and working its way down to George W Bush. The first start of the Party was in February, 1854, when antislavery Whigs met together to discuss a formation of a new political party. One such meeting on March 20th, 1854, in Wisconsin, is remembered as the Founding meeting of the Republican Party. The Civil War made the Republican Party victorious, but by 1876, the Republican Party had lost control of the South, but it continued to dominate the presidency until the election of FDR in 1933. Its humble beginnings began its triumphant start in its victories in congress as well as the world. In a small school house in Wisconsin, the year 1854, a small group of abolitionists joined together to create what is now known as the Republican Party. The group was full of antislavery Whigs, state powered governmental thinking democrats, and Free soilers bent on removing slavery from the United States. The day the group was actually founded was on July 6th, 1854. The founders of this new political party were Amos Truck, Horace Greeley, Salmon Chase and Charles Sumner. The word Republican appealed to those who recalled Jeffersonian republicanism . They were also called the GOP, or The Grand Old Party, and dates back to 1875. • 15. Rjr Nabisco Case Study The case study of the RJR Nabisco looks at many factors that went into one of the most complex leveraged buyouts in history. Several players were involved in the bidding of the company itself: KKR, First Boston, Forstmann Little, and Management Group. The main factor of the successful acquisition of RJR is dependent on the quality of the bidding team. Looking at KKR, their strategy was to recruit every significant player so that the other bidding groups would not be able to retain them. They retained Drexel Burnham Lambert, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, and Wasserstein Perella as dealer managers for the tender offer. This left the management Shearson bidding group with only Salomon Brothers and First Boston as significant access to capital markets, however First Boston shortly left as it was preparing for its own bid. Experts felt that with only Salomon on its team, it would be difficult finding an outlet for billions of dollars in bonds that would have to be sold to finance any buyout of RJR. Forstmann Little s bidding group strategy was to entice corporate clients to join their bidding group with the idea of pre selling RJR s different business segments to them, but it did not work out in the end because RJR s board objected to any advance selling of RJR s businesses which implied that Forstmann s corporate backers had to present themselves as mere investors in the bid, and not acquirers of businesses. In the end, KKR won with its Get Them All strategy worked in their favor in the bidding process. Despite having the higher bid $112 per share compared to KKR s bid of $109 per share, having industry experts as members, and being on good terms with the board members, traditional factors did not determine the winner. KKR won because of the following factors: The Break up Factor, or keeping the company intact; The Equity Factor, or provide existing shareholders with an option to participate in the buyout and thus share in any future KKR profits from the transaction; Financing Structure, where KKR was offering $500 million more equity than the management group; Employment Commitment, where KKR s plan of offering guaranteed severance and other benefits to employees who lost their jobs because of layoffs was ... Violence is, however, the right thing to be done in certain situations. With violence, comes great power. Power and violence walk together, hand in hand. When violence is exhibited, the power of the individual is shown to those around him. In both the Hebrew Bible and The Iliad, violence is depicted as a mode to reach goals. The reason for this is that violence allows an individual or a deity to flaunt their powers, while they simultaneously achieve their personal and communal ambitions. Just like how mortals have their own goals, deities also have an agenda. God, in the Hebrew Bible, has only two goals: to have humans obey Him blindly and to ... In Exodus 12, the Lord struck down all the first born in the land of Egypt, from the first born of Pharaoh who sat on the throne the first born of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the first born of the cattle (Exodus 12:29). God did all that just because the Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let the Israelites leave his country. The immense sacrifice of the first borns of man and beast was an act of violence that led the exodus of the Israelites. The mass murder of the Egyptian people and livestock also proves to the Pharaoh the great power of God, a power that would have remained unseen if not for the plagues and the executions. For after the Pharaoh witnessed the death of at least one man or one beast in each Egyptian s household, he said, Up, depart from among my people...Go, worship the Lord as you said (Exodus 12:31). With this final act of violence, God helped reach the Israelites communal goal: to leave the oppressive Egypt and to enter the liberal Promise Land of Canaan. When he put his reforms into place, he developed a concept of extreme Russian nationalism called Russification. He used Russification to develop a purely Russian nation. Alexander III used Russification to get rid of any nationality in Russia that is not Russian or any person in Russia that does not support his reforms. Along with secular reform, religious toleration was sacrificed during this period. Russia s Jews, perennial targets, were persecuted more harshly than ever, as were Russo Germans, Poles, and Finns, whose crime was their failure to have been born 100 percent Russian (1994). Teachers did not differ significantly in their backgrounds or training, although TWI teachers were more likely to have a Master s degree (30% to 6% and be bilingual (50% to 25%). The TWI program had a week of English by teacher and assistant, and a week of Spanish by a Spanish teacher and assistant, with both sets collaborating to plan curricula and assessment. The major challenge of the study was that it was difficult to ensure that literacy tests in English and Spanish were entirely comparable. Also, some of the tests used were experimental and turned out to be too difficult for most children, including in post test. Neither program was pure immersion because the children were given language support on the side. The results were positive and showed advancement for all children, with Spanish language children in TWI benefiting the most in comparison to their peers in the EI group. Specifically, the Spanish language children improved in their receptive vocabulary , with effect sizes of over half a deviation. TWI s effect of producing greater gains in receptive language than in expressive was considered by the authors to be one of the most significant findings of the study, and it was thought that further research could determine how to extend these benefits to expressive language. The Negative Impact Of The Puritan Society In The Crucible The Puritans were a religious minority group who believed that the Church of England needed to be purified of the influence of Catholicism. The basis for the Puritan s belief was an emphasis on the righteousness and sovereignty of God. They believed God directed all things by exercise, and directed all things to an intelligent end. In the Puritan life they believed in staying true to the divine law but doing everything in moderation. The Crucible shows the exact opposite of what the Puritan life is supposed to be like. These texts present divergent points of view in regards to the power of language. Anzaldua supports the idea that language has a lot of power over humans, while George Orwell believes that humans have power over language; however, both authors use their texts to support that idea that humans should defend their language. Anzaldua argues that our language determines who we are or the individual we want to become.
