Brotherhood In The Canterbury Tales
Throughout time, we have seen over and over men losing their minds because of women. In Geoffrey
Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales, we see it again. Palamon and Arcite break their knightly oath of
brotherhood over a woman by the name of Emily. As knights, they are supposed to follow the rules of
chivalry. But in their case they fight over a woman, why is that is that acceptable? The reason the
knight night told this story was to prove that knights also get swept away by women, and it is also part
of being a knight. Another point to make is Palamon and Arcite are the basically the same person in
character. Why did Chaucer and/or the Knight make them a little different? However, this is done to
make it hard for the reader to choose a side. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Men will act very stupid when they are around a beautiful woman. When a man falls in love with a
woman most time they will do anything for them, even face death. An example of this is Romeo and
Juliet. They both kill them self over the pain of losing one another. Another example is in Paradise
Lost, Adam faces the fall and death of the world for Eve. Neither of them can live without their loved
one. In Palamon and Arcite situation, they have both fallen in love with Emily. They must decide if
risking their friendship and brotherhood for the chance to marry Emily. In line 307 Arcite tells
Palamon that Love is a gretter lawe. This shows that love does conquer all. People would anything for
love. Many wars have been started over women and The Knight s tale is no different. Palamon and
Arcite went to battle with one another to win a woman. When Emily did not want to marry either of
the two knights. She even prayed to the goddess of Diana to grant her virginity. Another example of a
battle started was with Helen of Troy. She caused a huge mess with the city of Troy. People killed for
the sake of love, and still to this day kill for love. Palamon lives to marry Emily but has to face that he
lost his cousin because of this. Love is the one true happiness everyone searches for and at the same
time the most deadly. Sometimes living with the guilt can be

Reflection
Primary Introduction and Reflection
The purpose of this, my reflective essay, is to consider the journey I have taken to develop and create
both the research story task and the story task. In the first task I was tasked to do an in depth research
on a topic that was trending or perceived as popular with a wide and varied audience. Accordingly,
this would be a topic that could be seen to span a range of Social Media and established news sources.
Then, in the second task, I was required to create a well structured article based on the topic and
crafted to meet the well established journalistic standards of an established periodical, such as Time
magazine. I now regret not adding an image to both support and establish the storyline. If ... Show

Searching for information that related to my chosen topic proved to be problematic as many data
algorithms were pre set to my previous searches, which created a narrower search result than I had
hoped for.
Accordingly the objective and purpose of writing an article on a cashless society was to examine the
history behind it, how it would be structured and how it would affect those marginalised within
society at various levels. Consequently, I now realise that, to create credible newsworthy articles, I
will need to research a wider range of academic documents and streaming news reports. I will also
need to continue to refine my writing ability so as to fluently convey my message to a discerning, well
read and educated audience.
Evaluation and Analysis
My primary objective in investing a Cashless Society was to explore the impact it could have on those
marginalised within our culture. I had mistakenly used a limited set of trend analysis paradigms to
search and track what I was looking for. If I had used a wider range of browsers and search engines
may have provided a greater diversity of credible data. Relying on basic search algorithms does have
its merits, but can also create limited search results due to inherit limitations in the calculations used.
Using a Linear Search Algorithm meant that I was only able to create a short list of possible compiled
data collections.

Summary Of The Poem Mirror By Sylvia Plath
The poem Mirror, by Sylvia Plath, was written in 1961. The poem takes place during a time when
women s reflections were changing quickly, and women s movement was becoming more important.
According to Kristine Tucker in The Overall Meaning of the Poem Mirror, she states, The Mirror was
written by Sylvia Plath in 1961 but wasn t published until 1971, eight years after her death by suicide.
Therefore, presuming the lady in the mirror is Plath, readers assume she wrote the poem referring to
her personal life and her struggle with depression due to her appearance.
Sylvia Plath s poem Mirror is about a woman who gets older as the mirror watches her. At first, the
mirror is silver and exact (1). The mirror does not judge; however, it swallows what it sees and reflects
that image back (2). The mirror is also not cruel, only truthful (4), and considers itself a four cornered
eye of a god (5). Therefore, the mirror sees everything for what it is, and does not lie. The mirror looks
across the empty room most of the time (6) and meditates on the pink speckled wall across from it (7).
The mirror is attached to the wall, and has looked at that wall for so long, that the wall is thought to be
part of my heart (8). The darkness in the room and the people who consider the mirror are the faces
and darkness that separate the woman and the mirror (9). In the next stanza, the mirror is now
portraying itself as a lake (10). A woman is looking into the lake (10), and she is

Emissioning Model Case Study
VSP based operating mode identification binning approach. Many studies showed the ability of VSP
based emission models to reflect the transient emission rates under different operating modes as well
as the better estimation of vehicle emissions than speed based emission models (Song et al., 2013).
Scora et al. (2011) combined real time traffic data along with the comprehensive modal emission
models (CMEM and MOVES) to estimate the environmental measures in real time. The estimation
methodology based on OpMode bin provided far more dynamic and accurate environmental
information compared to static emission inventory estimation models. The OpMode bin emission rates

Song et al. (2013) developed a practical model evaluate the environmental effectiveness of ITS
strategies by using data from PEMS. The models are developed through considering the influence of
the vehicle s operating mode (VSP distribution) on vehicle emissions, which not only guarantees the
accuracy of emissions and fuel consumption models, but also makes it possible to accumulate current
traffic information systems in Beijing. Wang et al. (2008) established a model based on VSP and
speed, which provided insight that how different levels of cruise speed and acceleration affect vehicle
fuel consumption. The model prediction shows that vehicle fuel consumption per unit distance is
optimum at speeds between 50 and 70 km/h which is similar to the observed data from PEMS. This is
evident in the literature that in order to improve both the applicability and accuracy of the existing
emission models instantaneous vehicle activity data are needed which can be collected from the on
board emission system like PEMS to consider all real conditions which might induce the modeling
errors and improve the model precisions.
In summary, the microscopic simulation modeling has provided an accurate and reliable representation
of vehicular operations in roadway networks so far in the literature. From the literature we also found
that, most of the vehicle emissions data used in modeling are collected in a controlled laboratory
environment or simulation based. With

Herman Family Treatment Plan
Treatment Plan Eqwasha Collins Treatment Plan Description of the client Buddy is a sixteen year old,
pale European American male and the oldest child of Tammy Herman. The Herman family live in a
predominately African American community in public housing. Buddy was removed from the house 5
years ago and was placed in a residential school. Buddy is not very talkative or enthusiastic about
conversing with the family at first, until he gets to tell his own opinion about making changes to better
himself. Strengths The Herman s biggest strength is collectively expressing their own personal
feelings. By them being able to express themselves I m able to get a clear understanding of the areas
needed to be focused on. Buddy s strength is that he has a motivation of wanting to change in order to
not have to leave his home again. For example, Buddy is eager to start helping his mom around the

Sarcophagus In Anthropology
Throughout history, archaeology has been a tool used to learn more about past human activities and
their cultures by analyzing artifacts, architecture, environment data, and etc. that has been left behind.
Many artifacts and monuments became instrumental in expanding the knowledge of the past and the
Hagia Triada Sarcophagus is no exception. By analyzing the physical details such as size/dimensions,
material, style, images depicted, and the location of the artifact, this can help people determine the
reason and purpose of its existence. Eventually this can lead to how it may change or add to the
knowledge of the classical world. Looking at an artifact s physical attributes is always the first step to
uncovering the archaeological significance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, styles that were common in Minoan Art is present in the images. For example, women had
pale white skin with similar hairstyle, and were bare breasted while the men were dark skinned. Bulls
were also present throughout the sarcophagus, a common theme in various pieces of Minoan artifacts.
However, while much of the images contain styles of Minoan art, there are some details that are
different. This can be seen in the griffin on the shorter side of the sarcophagus where Minoan
characteristics of the griffin with a bird head, leonine body, and notched wings are present but it is
missing details such as the running spirals on its neck and wings like the griffins found in the Throne
Room at Knossos or Xeste 3 on Thera. All this contributes to the date of c. 1400 as this was the time
period of the Mycenaean occupation of Crete as well as provides a narrative of the funerary rituals
performed by Minoans and perhaps even the

Practical And Practical Theories
Theory : a supposition or a system of ideas intended to explain something, especially one based on
general principles independent of the thing to be explained .
Practical : of or concerned with the actual doing or use of something rather than with theory and ideas
.
2.2 According to Bradley (2012), knowledge is extremely important to any career as well as to life.
There are various kinds of knowledge and many different ways to attain them. Theory is one type
where as practical application is another. Both sort of knowledge are equally important and makes our
lives better in every way. People who move forward in life have a tendency to acquire both type of
knowledge in multiples ways.

Furthermore, he added that everyone agrees that US has done a better job of preparing students for the
future. He suggested that we can also come up to their level if we should take steps toward teaching
things that students will use in real life and make less use of theory. Universities should teach students
more practical skills that they will use in their future. Concentrating on practical studies only doesn t
mean that we ignore theory we need it too. There is a need of theory also to understand the basics.
Everyone needs to have an understanding of the basics theory before implementing it in practice, but
the problem arise when the universities pay attention on theory only and ignore the practical

recent version of the exam.
CISSP
CISSP definitely benefits information security in general. It provides people understanding of which
individuals have taken the time to understand about security to learn the common language and
understand the common body of knowledge and apply that ion the day to day work. It also provide a
work ethic that the company can count on when bringing these people on board. Initial goal of CISSP

The Market For Reproductive Management Products
Industry and Customer Value According to MedTech, (2015) the U.S. market for reproductive
management products was estimated at more than $3.7 billion in 2013. This market, which includes a
broad range of contraceptive drugs, contraceptive devices/implants, and fertility drugs, is expected to
expand at a healthy compound annual growth rate of more than 7%, increasing by more than $1.5
billion over a span of 5 years. A recent report released by Grand View research stated that healthcare
provider training has been more focused on IUDs and implants due to more young women requesting
these types of contraceptive devices. (Grand View Research, Inc., 2015, p. 01) Grand View further
stated that the North America contraceptives market accounted for the largest share of Contraceptive
growth at over 30.0% in 2014 owing to, the high incidence rates of abortion, rising population of
women within the age group of 15 44 years, and high patient awareness levels in the region. They
forecast that the presence of an extensive product pipeline portfolio is expected to boost industry
growth throughout 2020. Mirena, manufactured by Bayer, is a non seasonal, long acting intrauterine
contraception device that is indicated to treat heavy menstrual bleeding and to also to prevent
conception in women for up to 5 years. This intrauterine device is placed by a patient s healthcare

Advantages And Disadvantages Of The South In The Civil War
Compare the advantages and disadvantages of the South and the North in the Civil War. Was a
northern victory inevitable? Why? The North had the advantage over the South due to having more
resources, manufacturing and shipping.
There were many advantages of the North and South in the Civil war. The advantages for the North
were that they had all the manufacturing and the ports for shipping. The North had access to all of the
natural resources required to manufacture weapons. The North had railroads for shipping which was
important for supplying the troops of food and weapons as well as transporting the injured. In
addition, the North had well trained federal soldiers and better troops. They had a larger population
and had more factories/industries. They were known as more powerful because they had more money,
food and clothing. South had great advantages too, but nowhere near as much as the North did. Many

area to bring the South back to the union. Disadvantages of the south were they had a small population
and little to no factories. Having no factories was a huge problem because they couldn t produce
weapons and other goods. They had few railroads to move troops and vital supplies. Their economy
was relied on the North and had a less centralized government. The south had such a small population

The Same Kind Of Different As Me

mean that they were good leaders. To be a good leader means that not only does one have to be
effective but also be able to go above and beyond just simply reaching the goal in mind. A good leader
sets to make an impact in many different people s lives. A good example of the difference between an
effective leader and a good leader would be Ron and Deborah Hall in The Same Kind of Different as

Thomas Hobbes And John Locke On Liberty
In this essay, the contrasting ideas of Thomas Hobbes and John Locke on liberty will be discussed and
critically analyzed.
Freedom is the idea of being able to do what one wants to, however, in a society, laws are created to
make us all equal. Laws apply to every one of us in a civilized democratic society, which is the
common voice that keeps us living together without violating each other s rights. Author s general
view.7
Thomas Hobbes primarily expresses the idea of liberty using sovereignty as a model. According to
him, sovereignty was established by agreement initially, but he goes on to say that sovereignty
established by force incorporates the same rights and requirements of the social contract. The
difference lies in the way the sovereign is retained, installed and thought of. A sovereign coming into
power by universal consent is supported by the masses, as people fear each other. In contrast to this, a
sovereign that comes into power by force gains support as the people fear the sovereign himself. Both
of these sovereigns are mutually consented to by social contract, which is driven by fear in either case.
In the state of nature, liberty was non existent as actions were influenced by fear of death and fear of
the power held by others. While fear and power are present in The Leviathan, the person has acquired
absolute liberty as he handed over fear and power to the sovereign to use as tools consentingly making
him responsible for his own fate should the sovereign

Evolution Of The American Flag
The American Flag has a huge history dating back to 1776. This was when the first American Flag
was created by Betsy Ross, who lived in Philadelphia. She was a seamstress and had ties to some
important people, including George Washington. It was also known that Betsy made flags for the
navy. The first flag had thirteen stars, which represented the thirteen original colonies, and thirteen
stripes alternating red and white. Between 1776 and 1960, Congress passed several acts changing the
shape, design, and arrangement of the American flag. In total, the American Flag went through twenty
six changes. Some of the designs as shown above, include circles, rows, and many other designs.

competitors, our profit before taxes was second to Bikes R Us by a total of $450,000. They had a

Our reasoning for such a significant increase was to give us the ability to have a lower volume of
supplies, leaving more capacity for the new bike. Since we do not want high volume of sales for the
mountain bike, we decided to eliminate all advertising and public relationship expenses for the
mountain bikes.
For the youth bike we decided to keep the advertising expenditure at 2 million in order to raise the
awareness of this new product line. This also helps establish a good market share in case competitors
also decide to launch the youth bike. Since we have a low capacity for the bike, we also decided to
increase the price from $370 to $400, resulting in an increase in gross margin. With this increase, we
are still producing at a high yet relatively low volume.
Operations Decisions
We decided to decrease the price of mountain bike production from $134 per bike to $108. The
difference of $26 for 11,000 units results in a saving of almost $300,000. In the meanwhile, we also
decided to dump our finish goods inventory, incurring a loss of $175,000. We decided to increase our
capacity from 20,000 to 27,500 and efficiency from 1,000,000 to 2,000,000. We want to avoid
increasing capacity significantly in order to avoid low efficiency. At the same time we want to keep
our wastage at a minimum. We reduced our retail margin for the bike and sports store to 20% while
reducing the discount stores to 27%. These new retail margins

The Shale Is A Rock
Locality 1
I have I determined specimen A as a black Shale. I have found out that the shale is a sedimentary rock.
The rock is dark/black coloured from the picture, therefore suggests that it has high organic matter.
From research I have concluded that shale is commonly marine as it is usually found in rivers, lakes
and the sea floor and this will suggest to me that the shale is from a low energy environment. The rock
is hard but it is quite brittle. I have established that all the grain sizes are less than 0.5mm which tells
me they are fine grained when looking at the Wentworth s scale.
I have concluded that the fossil in the shale is called a didymograptus. The picture clearly shows us
that it has two stipes in which I have calculated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have tested the rock against Mohs Hardness scale and as it can be scratched from a fingernail it has a
hardness of 2.5.
I have managed to calculate the density of the galena. I did this by weighing it to find the mass which
was 92.6g then I found out how much water the galena displaces to find out the volume which was
11cm^3. And when I put it into the fomula by using the mass and the volume I was able to work out
the density: 92.6/11 = 8.4g/cm^3. I have researched and found that the galena was probably formed
inside a hydrothermal vein by precipitation.
Locality 3
In locality 3, the picture clearly shows me that it is red sandstone and also a coarse sandstone syncline
and I have concluded it to being quite open. I have also noticed that the syncline is symmetrical as I
can use the axial plane in order to see this. The picture presents just a trough. The trough shape
therefore tells us that the younger rocks are on the inside. There is a visible unconformity shown on
the image located slightly above the syncline and this unconformity would have been younger.
I have calculated that the limb lengths are nearly the same in length as I have calculated the average
limb length of the syncline from using the image to be 5.52cm and if I use the scale I found out that
that is 22.08m. The average plane dip plane dip was 19.4 degrees which is a little different to the other
side which tells me that there was a slight difference in tension from each of the

Psychoanalytic Theory Of Human Development
Psychoanalytic Theory
Psychoanalytic Theory is a theory of human development that holds that irrational, unconscious drives
and motives, often originating in childhood, underlie human behavior. It is thought to influence every
aspect of thinking and behavior, from the smallest details of life to the crucial choices of a lifetime.
Sigmund Freud is an Austrian physician who believed the stages of human development were
characterized by sexual pleasure centered on a particular part of the body.
Oral Stage (Birth to 1 year) In infancy, everything the child gets a hold of goes to their mouth. The
lips, tongue, and gums are the focus of pleasurable sensations in the baby s body. They love to suck on
their fingers or pacifier majority of the time, even in their sleep.
Anal Stage (1 3 years)
The anal is the focus of pleasurable sensations in the baby s body. During this time children are
beginning toilet training. They are now able to interpret when they need to use the restroom and able
to communicate to the parents when they need to go.
Phallic Stage (3 6 years)
During this stage, the penis is the most important body part, and pleasure is derived from genital
stimulation. This is the time when they begin to discover their genitals, girls may ask questions while
on the other hand, boys may feel a sense of pride.
Latency (6 11 years)
During this age of development sexual needs quieten down and children begin to focus on social
activities with friends.

Having A System In Twelve Angry, By Reginald Rose
What is the point of having a system if it has faults to it? A family friend was being held at the adult
detention center. His family was not able to hire a lawyer for him at the time, so a lawyer was
appointed to him. The problem with his appointed lawyer was that he didn t speak Spanish and the
family friend didn t speak English, therefore there was no way of communication. The lawyer did not
find out anything about his case, he didn t find out whether or not he had a work permit or a visa,
which he did but had been expired. The attorney appointed to him just said, Sign the papers and you ll
be released here. The family friend just did what the lawyer said because he thought he was helping
him, not creating a bigger problem. Now, he is fighting to stay here where he has built a life with his
wife and kids. Again, what is the point of having a system if it has faults to it? Problems in the system
have been present since about the 1930s or 1940s and are still present to this day, it may not have as
many faults however some are still present. The play, Twelve Angry Men, written by Reginald Rose,
is about a kid on trial who is accused of murdering his father. Testimonies given by neighbors are
raising questions among the jurors. A lady from across the railroad tracks claims she saw the kid
murder her father, she, however uses glasses and wouldn t be able to see anything without them. A

Acceptance In 12 Angry Men By Reginald Rose s 12 Angry Men
Imagine living in a world where differences are celebrated and diversity can be seen everywhere you
go. The world would be a place where you would not have to be afraid to hide who you choose to
become, your opinions will not be casted aside despite it s not being what majority agreed upon, and
society would simply just be accepting and loving. However, reality is quite the opposite, for years
human beings had struggled with racism, discriminations, and accepting others different from
themselves. As shown in recent events, the Texas church shooting occurred due to an unknown
shooter opened fired during mass on November 5 because they did not approved of Christianity. This
event led to the death of 26 people, the event illustrates discrimination against one s religion. From
this it is safe to say that people should accept those different from themselves to an extent that would
benefits the society today; however, there are situations where acceptance is not an option due to one s
action causing harm to other. Acceptance allows society to be more just towards people who have
different opinions other than the majority and someone of a different race. In 12 Angry Men written by
Reginald Rose, due to Juror Eight showing acceptance and voiced a different opinion than the rest of
the jurors, justice was served for the wrongly accused boy. Juror Eight is seen standing up for his
different belief when he said, It s not easy for me to raise my hand send a boy off to die without

Synopsis
Similar to most financial frauds, the Livent, Inc. fraud was masterminded by a few individuals,
primarily Garth Drabinsky and Myron Gottlieb. However, numerous individuals were eventually
drawn into Livent s fraudulent schemes by its principal architects, including Maria Messina, the
company s chief financial officer (CFO). Messina, a former partner with Deloitte Touche s Canadian
affiliate, had previously served as Livent s audit engagement partner. The fraud unraveled following
Livent s takeover by an investment group led by Hollywood mogul Michael Ovitz. The new
management team installed by Ovitz soon found that massive, systematic irregularities permeated the
company s accounting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
10. The accounting manipulations used by Livent officials included simply erasing expenses and
liabilities from the company s accounting records, improper deferrals of major production costs, and
capitalizing common operating expenses.
11. In August 1998, Messina and four of her subordinates revealed the fraud to a Livent executive who
had been appointed by Michael Ovitz.
12. In June 2001, a U.S. federal judge ruled that a class action lawsuit filed against Deloitte for its
failure to uncover the Livent fraud could proceed since there was a reasonable likelihood the audit
firm had been reckless in auditing the company. Instructional Objectives
1. To emphasize the need for auditors to identify the key inherent risk factors posed by an audit client.
2. To illustrate the lengths to which client management will sometimes go to misrepresent its company
s operating results and financial position.

Mildred Pierce Themes
Personally, Veda s convinced me that alligators have the right idea. They eat their young, Mildred s
friend, Ida, echoes what is seemingly the general consensus upon viewing the film Mildred Pierce
(1945). In James M. Cain s 1945 hardboiled crime novel of the same name, we re taken on a
whirlwind ride as Mildred separates from her husband, goes into the restaurant business, and tries to
give her daughter, Veda, everything she desires. In the film adaptation, we re also taken on a
whirlwind ride, but this time in the form of a murder mystery. Hollywood can t be blamed for twisting
the story into the classic film noir that audiences craved, but there s no denying the vastly different
stories within the pages and on the screen. Michael Curtiz s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Greed, family bonds, and independence are also key players in the story as Mildred fights to please
Veda and wait upon her every whim. The novel s narrative configuration lends itself more to
enhancing the betrayal aspect of the story, Mildred finding Veda and Monte in bed, Veda attributing
the fake loss of her singing voice to Mildred nearly strangling her, or Veda leaving Mildred with the
truth of her reconciliation simply being a ploy. However, the film is much more suited for conveying
the theme of greed. Interestingly enough, the Motion Picture Production Code was too strict at the
time to allow a strict adaptation of the novel s events. Thus, the murder mystery was created to send
Veda to jail for breaking the law and the sexual betrayal was toned down, therefore guiding the
filmmakers to exploit the greedy, obsessive aspects of Veda in the case of the film to allow the
audience to develop their hatred towards her. The viewer could understand Mildred s desire to please
her daughter, and her immense love for her, so the film s use of flashbacks makes the viewer wonder
whether Mildred is truly describing how awful Veda was to her over the course of the story. The
omniscient nature of the Cain novel reveals Veda s flaws as they occurred, but Mildred could easily be
applying a filter to make her daughter seem better than she is or, perhaps, worse. The film s
configuration is also wonderful at trying to make the viewer consider the dangers of the greed,
independence, and betrayal occurring on screen, as they know what is coming for Monte they just not

The Joy Luck Club Narrative Style
In The Joy Luck Club, Tan has purposely externalized the eight characters mental world by allowing
each of them to tell her own story in a deceptively simple manner, thus allowing the reader to plunge
into the mind of the characters. The motives, desires, pains, pleasures, and concerns of the characters
are thereby effectively dramatized. This particular writing strategy allows Tan to transcend the
conventional novelistic dichotomy of preferred showing and undesirable telling. The stories thus tell
us a great deal about individual characters, their reaction to each other, and their activities together.
The Joy Luck Club is a bridge uniting both space and time. It connects the sixteen intricately
interlocking stories and helps to reveal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike Tan s other novels, which are based on oral narratives of mothers, this story develops by the act
of documenting past. Ruth who is the ghost writer, major character, starts to amend her life by
initiating a unique creative writing, with all immaculate insight that she has attained about herself. In
other words, by looking back and by the power of recalling past memories, Ruth has obtained a new
vision of future; as she writes the story of her mother and her grandmother, she reveals her vision, in
the closing words of the novel, They write about what happened, why it happened, how they can make
other things happen. They write stories of things that are but should not have been. They write about
what could have been, what still might be. They write of a past that can be changed. Ruth discovers
the answer to her philosophical questions about life. Interestingly, this insight belongs to a feminine
sphere and its instructors are all women who share their memories with their daughters, to protect
them from hazards of life. Therefore, this story develops by the act of documenting past. However, the

Banning Offensive Terms
This week s article covered a spectrum of offensive terms. According to this article, the topic has been
going around for a while now. Recently, the term Redskins has been banned in California. A lot of
people agree with this movement and think it s the right thing to do. However, I respectfully disagree
on banning these offensive words. The article of this week was not one of my favorites. The whole
time I read with my mouth opened in amazement at how sensitive people have become. Honestly, why
are we getting offended by such irrelevant things? The only part I actually agreed with was that calling
someone crippled is offensive. It s the only term that I believe shouldn t be used because there are
much better words to express the same

The Colonization Of Africa Is A Significant Reason Why The...
The colonization of Africa is a significant reason why the educational system in Africa is split between
the countries it holds. Between the late 1800s and early 1900s Africa faced many military annexations
and diplomatic conquests. The impact of colonialism has influenced the conflicts in Liberia that
happened in the late 1900s. Liberia s civil wars held a responsibility for the devastation that is
implicated in its racial stance. Social Darwinism gave support for the superior rule over Africa. Liberia
s conflicts play a notable role in how westernization of education and race are viewed throughout
Africa. Liberia s education system emerged because of these conflicts. Colonizing Africa began
between the 1870s 1900. An important tragedy of colonization is the stripping of ethnicities. Modern
Africa is a product of European imperialism, not African heritage and tradition. Once the profits of the
slave trade collapsed, because of its abolition, European markets were looking for ways to keep a
steady way to make profits. Traditionally, Africa had been divided into groups by tribe, family, clan
and lineage. During the process of colonization these characteristics were social, economic and
political. Colonial state formation caused new values, institutions and operational principles to take
place. The African colonization required the taking of territories that were unknown to the political
world. The old views on who would run each group were diminished by the new rulers

Tikki Tavi Book Summary
In the story, Rikki Tikki Tavi, a mongoose, Rikki Tikki Tavi, single handedly fights with a cobra
couple, while getting help from a group of new friends. One day, while he was in the wild, he was
caught up with the flood, that washed him away from his burrow, away from his mother and father. An
English family found him on the road, and decided to see if he was still alive. They brought him to
their bungalow, so he could rest and stay in a comfortable place. Although, as mongooses are
extremely curious, Rikki Tikki, decided to wander around the area, and found himself caught in a
sticky situation.
Firstly, Rikki Tikki explored the family s garden. Although, he seemed to notice the animals there
were not thriving there, they all seemed to be scared. There were large plants and trees he found that
he described, big as houses. While in the garden, he met a tailorbird, Darzee, and his wife. They
explained to Rikki Tikki that their family, and the whole garden was in danger. A cobra couple, Nag
and Nagaina, scour the garden day and night, eating everything that looks tasty to them, and ate one of

Survival In Auschwitz Essay
Imagine now a man who is deprived of everyone he loves, and at the same time of his house, his
habits, his clothes, in short, of everything he possesses: he will be a hollow man, reduced to suffering
and needs, forgetful of dignity and restraint, for he who loses all often easily loses himself. This short
quote is taken from Primo Levi s Survival in Auschwitz . It depicts a true story of Primo Levi during
the Holocaust, who was relocated to an extermination camp after beginning a great life after college.
Primo was captured with a resistant group from Italy. He used his college education and degree in
chemistry to stay alive.
The above quote brings a similar quote to mind. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the liberation of Auschwitz, Primo again had nothing. Necessities and goods were furnished
throughout his life and now Primo had to start all over. He had nothing except for life, something most
people who walked through the front gates of Auschwitz lost.
Jesus Christ lived a similar life many, many years before. He lived his young adulthood life teaching
the people of the world about God and humanity. He cherished his life and the life of others. He
respected all living things and tried to help them live a non sinful life. He too was deprived of things
near the end of his life. Like Primo, Jesus was convicted of what he thought and spoke of and was
killed. The main difference between the two men is that Jesus lost his life. Jesus though had a second
chance as he was later resurrected from hell and brought into heaven. There he again helped the
people of the world.
Furthermore, both of these men were convicted of religious believes and ripped away of their lives.
Even though Primo died many years after his stay at Auschwitz, he was never the same before that. He
will be a man whose life and death can be lightly decided with no sense of human affinity, in the most
fortunate of cases, on the basis of a pure judgment of utility. It is in the way that one can understand
the double sense of the term, extermination camp, and it is now clear what we seek to

has the power to depress people in less than two minutes. As the haunting tone of Angel by Sarah
McLachlan begins to play, numerous viewers decide to switch the channel, mute the TV, or even
complete other tasks away from the TV to avoid feeling guilty as the images of the mistreated animals
flash across the screen, which are constraints for the ad. This heart wrenching commercial raises

Most people would be annoyed at giving an organization around $20 a month. However, when it is
broken down into a daily contribution that is less than a dollar a day, it seems feasible for people to
donate the amount to aid these poor animals. The images of the animals for whom the assistance came
too late implies that if one more person had donated, that animal would have been saved. Therefore,
the commercial implies that if they do not donate, the animal in need of their aid will die. Their plea
for donations is supported by the images of the doleful animals and the videos of the animals who are
struggling even to walk because of the injuries that they have faced. Additionally, the beginning of the
commercial presents the viewers with a statistic of 3000 animals are tortured in America every day
(ASPCA). This shows how often this type of abuse occurs in America, and how critical it is to attempt
to stop the mistreatment of the animals. However, with the fiscal support of the viewers, the
organization can put a stop to this inhumane treatment of animals and thus create exceptional lives for
them overall. Finally, the viewers who donate are supplied with a picture of an animal, and a t shirt,
who they have aided in saving, thus making their donation seem tangible and less superfluous. These
objects are meant to be rewards for the people who donate, and therefore can be utilized to spread the
message of the ASPCA around to other

Evaluation Of A Non Independent Variable, Dependent...
Methodology The design of the study revolves around three variables including an independent
variable, a dependent variable, and a mediation variable; where the independent variable is the
average number of hours a student studies per week, the dependent variable is the average restfulness
of student s sleep, and the mediating variable is stress reaction. It is hypothesized that the average
number of hours a student studies per week is associated to their positive sleep quality rating, where
the higher number of hours of studying will predict a lower positive sleep quality rating. In addition, a
student s stress reaction score measured by multidimensional personality questionnaire (MPQ)
standards on stress reaction factor will act as a mediator on the student s sleep quality. A total of 278
participants aided in the formation of the data and statistics of this study. This sample was chosen
through a voluntary questionnaire given to Fall Semester 2016 Psychology300 students. It was a
convenient sample to take from due to the high likelihood of most of the student s taking the survey.
The questionnaire was administered through an online survey website termed Qualtrics. The incentive
to take this questionnaire and complete it accurately was eight points worth of extra credit awarded to
students who did so. Additionally, it was disclosed that students would be using the survey data for

Melatonin Agonists
Discussion There have been studies conducted that show that targeting melatonin receptors may be a
novel way of reducing the threshold of seizure propensity. Currently, progabide is an established drug
that is used to control epileptic seizures. However, there are no studies conducted that combine both
melatonin agonists and GABA agonists together to treat epileptic seizures. Our results showed that
there was a decrease in seizure propensity when treating the mice with melatonin and GABA agonists,
however, there was an even significant decrease in seizure propensity when these two treatments were
combined together. The two way ANOVA test also revealed that treatment and seizure propensity had
a significant difference that was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Progabide is not a relatively popular drug for the treatment for epilepsy, so there are no concrete list of
symptoms for this drug. However, central nervous system depressants in general tend to produce
symptoms such as drowsiness or dizziness. It can also lead to suicidal thoughts or depression.21 Thus,
when combined with melatonin agonists, it may produce more intense feelings of drowsiness because
melatonin also causes increased drowsiness in humans. This experiment could have been improved if
we had used rats that were genetically engineered or born with a proclivity towards seizures. This way,
we could have seen the effects of GABA and melatonin agonists on rats that had organic long term
seizures rather than short term seizures that were induced artificially by kainic acid. It was found that
rats purchased from a group of Crj:Wistar rats from the company Charles River Japan spontaneously
exhibited seizures. These rats were then inbred and their seizure susceptibility loci (Ner1 and Ner2)
were mapped out on chromosomes 1 and 3.22 Perhaps by using these rats, we can truly mimic
seizures that are more closely related to the ones produced

History of Comic Books
The distribution, audience, narrative style, and dramatic content, of comic books were the direct
descendants of the pulp magazine. They were called pulp magazine because they were printed on the
cheapest paper for non costly mass distribution, these publications were as old as newspaper comic
strips. Pulp magazines can be traced to their Civil War era ancestors, called dime novels. Unlike the
funnies, pulp magazines styles were outside of the mainstream and featured adventure, fantasy, and
suspense. In 1933, Harry Wildenberg and Max Gaines took the traditional comic and folded it in half
and then created the first four color newsprint comic. It would became the new format which is still
seen in modern comic books still today.
The biggest rise in comic books was World War II, because the comic had two underling messages at
the time that kept the industry alive: social reform and patriotism. The DC superhero comics implicitly
stressed a common interest in public welfare and strong federal government all based its comics
around the Social status of America at the time. While Marvel comics took up the cause of WWII
patriotism in the early creation of Captain America, by showing Captain America punching Hitler. The
biggest underling message of comics during the Golden Age is the defense of normal people and good
citizens. After WWII, the energy driving the Golden Age died off, but that didn t mean that the comic
book industry was done creating new heroes or done expanding it

Excessive Pride In The Iliad
Excessive pride Excessive pride seems to be the core of people s everyday struggles. Having
excessive pride can turn into being obnoxious and self centered. Believing in what you only say and
not being opened minded to the people around you could also have an outcome of disastrous events.
In the novel the iliad by Homer many characters struggle with this trait, some overcome it and some
feed into it. In the beginning of the book Agamemnon seems to be self centered with the way he leads.
Achilles tries to defend the people by exclaiming why it s wrong for agamemnon to take all the prizes
that his men have worked for. Agamemnon basically thinks he has higher seniority which means he
gets to pick the best prizes to have amongst his men that they worked for. When achilles doesn t agree
with this he threatens to leave and agamemnon says Fly if you will, I shall make you no prayers to
stay you. I have others here who will do me honor, and above all Jove, the lord of council. After the
war began He realized he shouldn t have underestimated the trojans, for the achaeans were now losing
against them. Later on in the book he puts his pride aside and asks achilles to come back and help
them with the war. This shows when realizing what is better for his men he puts all aside for the win
of the achaeans.
In book II, Jove sends a lying message to Agamemnon saying he will help them sack Troy and that
Jove promised him that ,he would, if he went. Agamemnon having no thought about

Herman Melville s Moby Dick
Herman Melville has become a well known classic novelist in today s society, most popularly known
for his novel Moby Dick. This book, taught in many high school classrooms, has been critiqued and
analyzed in several ways, the characters and story line becoming familiar throughout academia.
However, what many high school classrooms do not address is the sub textual homosexual references
made throughout the book. In fact, several books authored by Melville, once viewed upon closer
inspection, can be read as a testament to the queer tendencies of the novelist. Much of the works
produced by Melville focus specifically on the interactions between men and allude to the possible
homosexual relationships between the characters. Although Melville ... Show more content on

Melville s own life supports the possibilities of a less than heterosexual interpretation, which is only
furthered by his literary works. Specifically, in Melville s novel Moby Dick, there are several allusions
to a possibly intimate relationship between Ishmael and Queequeg, as well as several sub textual
references to homosexual attraction in general. The most blatant example of this is found in the
interactions of Ishmael at the inn in chapters three and four. Not only do they share a bed, Ishmael
claims to have never slept better in [his] life that night (Moby Dick, 64). Upon waking, Ishmael finds
Queequeg s arm thrown over [him] in the most loving and affectionate manner. He even goes as far as
to note: You had almost thought I had been his wife. (Moby Dick, 65) Later, as Ishmael and Queequeg
smoke together, Ishmael states that Queequeg pressed his forehead against mine, clasped me round the
waist, and said henceforth we were married. (Moby Dick, 112) There are several other allusions to the
marriage of the two characters such as in Melville s description of Queequeg s actions: his bridegroom
clasp and hugging a fellow male in that matrimonial sort of style. (Moby Dick, 68) Another
compelling passage from the book is found in

Lupe Fiasco’s Modern Voice Essay
History has constantly brought upon leaders and individuals who stands up against the corrupt society
he and many others face. Those leaders express their profound thoughts for both him and the many
others that are too afraid to speak out. One of the most notorious writers in American history and is
known for his transcendental ideals. However, today s society lacks individuals who parallels with
Whitman. Lupe Fiasco represents the Modern American voice speaking out against the degrading
world society and does so by influencing the public through their appeal of music. He rejects and
contrasts from the negative influences of the world and uses his music to contradict those who degrade
our society. Born in the west side of Chicago ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the song, Fiasco portrays the manipulation that many are often affected by. He suggests that others
should, like him, ignore what others think and act purely on what you believe. Fiasco uses the analogy
of slaves to describe the similar effects of losing one s individuality. The experiences one would face
if he/she succumbs into the negative influences of others would be similar to that of African American
slaves. Because of human nature, jealousy exists amongst every individual and by allowing others to
control aspects of your life, he/she will be able harm those dependent variables of one s life. Similarly,
Whitman states that one should freely ...give alms to everyone that asks, stand up for the stupid and
crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience
and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown or to any man or
number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and with the mothers
of families... (Leaves of Summer, Preface) Whitman again describes the idea of individualism. People
fear of the higher power and often let that fear consume them, eventually eliminating the individual s
ability to act freely. He implies that people should ignore those circumstances and without

Yossarian And Ralph Lord Of The Flies Essay

principles into revealing their true inner leader with an empathetic message. Even though both

comparable scenarios. Both protagonists share and explore similar goals within the societies where
they exist. Each protagonist must question the behavior of his role models and peers. Each main

During the events of Catch 22, Yossarian is always questioning the acts of his peers and role models.
Throughout the adventures of Yossarian, his officers are quite naive and embrace poor guidance over
the soldiers. Yossarian is constantly questioning the officer s decision, such as increasing the mission
requirement because these poor decisions usually lead down a consequential path such as the death of
Snowden. With these deaths resulting from unnecessary missions, it seems comprehensive why
Yossarian questions the ethics of his outranking officials. They re trying to kill me, Yossarian told him
calmly (Heller 16). Despite not having any critical impact on the decisions of the officers, Yossarian
continues to question the acts against him and planning to escape the military s hold on Yossarian s
life. Yossarian s main concern is the idea that people are trying to kill him indirectly and goes to great
lengths to stay alive questioning the decisions that could leave him dead. Throughout the actions of
Lord of the Flies, Ralph is also seen cross examining the acts of his peers and role models. During
Ralph s first few days on the island, the tribe struggled to decide which leader was best to follow:
Ralph or Jack. I ought to be chief, said Jack with simple arrogance, because I m chapter chorister and

  • 2. Brotherhood In The Canterbury Tales Throughout time, we have seen over and over men losing their minds because of women. In Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales, we see it again. Palamon and Arcite break their knightly oath of brotherhood over a woman by the name of Emily. As knights, they are supposed to follow the rules of chivalry. But in their case they fight over a woman, why is that is that acceptable? The reason the knight night told this story was to prove that knights also get swept away by women, and it is also part of being a knight. Another point to make is Palamon and Arcite are the basically the same person in character. Why did Chaucer and/or the Knight make them a little different? However, this is done to make it hard for the reader to choose a side. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Men will act very stupid when they are around a beautiful woman. When a man falls in love with a woman most time they will do anything for them, even face death. An example of this is Romeo and Juliet. They both kill them self over the pain of losing one another. Another example is in Paradise Lost, Adam faces the fall and death of the world for Eve. Neither of them can live without their loved one. In Palamon and Arcite situation, they have both fallen in love with Emily. They must decide if risking their friendship and brotherhood for the chance to marry Emily. In line 307 Arcite tells Palamon that Love is a gretter lawe. This shows that love does conquer all. People would anything for love. Many wars have been started over women and The Knight s tale is no different. Palamon and Arcite went to battle with one another to win a woman. When Emily did not want to marry either of the two knights. She even prayed to the goddess of Diana to grant her virginity. Another example of a battle started was with Helen of Troy. She caused a huge mess with the city of Troy. People killed for the sake of love, and still to this day kill for love. Palamon lives to marry Emily but has to face that he lost his cousin because of this. Love is the one true happiness everyone searches for and at the same time the most deadly. • 3. Reflection Primary Introduction and Reflection The purpose of this, my reflective essay, is to consider the journey I have taken to develop and create both the research story task and the story task. In the first task I was tasked to do an in depth research on a topic that was trending or perceived as popular with a wide and varied audience. Accordingly, this would be a topic that could be seen to span a range of Social Media and established news sources. Then, in the second task, I was required to create a well structured article based on the topic and crafted to meet the well established journalistic standards of an established periodical, such as Time magazine. I now regret not adding an image to both support and establish the storyline. If ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Searching for information that related to my chosen topic proved to be problematic as many data algorithms were pre set to my previous searches, which created a narrower search result than I had hoped for. Accordingly the objective and purpose of writing an article on a cashless society was to examine the history behind it, how it would be structured and how it would affect those marginalised within society at various levels. Consequently, I now realise that, to create credible newsworthy articles, I will need to research a wider range of academic documents and streaming news reports. I will also need to continue to refine my writing ability so as to fluently convey my message to a discerning, well read and educated audience. Evaluation and Analysis My primary objective in investing a Cashless Society was to explore the impact it could have on those marginalised within our culture. I had mistakenly used a limited set of trend analysis paradigms to search and track what I was looking for. If I had used a wider range of browsers and search engines may have provided a greater diversity of credible data. Relying on basic search algorithms does have its merits, but can also create limited search results due to inherit limitations in the calculations used. Using a Linear Search Algorithm meant that I was only able to create a short list of possible compiled data collections. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Summary Of The Poem Mirror By Sylvia Plath The poem Mirror, by Sylvia Plath, was written in 1961. The poem takes place during a time when women s reflections were changing quickly, and women s movement was becoming more important. According to Kristine Tucker in The Overall Meaning of the Poem Mirror, she states, The Mirror was written by Sylvia Plath in 1961 but wasn t published until 1971, eight years after her death by suicide. Therefore, presuming the lady in the mirror is Plath, readers assume she wrote the poem referring to her personal life and her struggle with depression due to her appearance. Sylvia Plath s poem Mirror is about a woman who gets older as the mirror watches her. At first, the mirror is silver and exact (1). The mirror does not judge; however, it swallows what it sees and reflects that image back (2). The mirror is also not cruel, only truthful (4), and considers itself a four cornered eye of a god (5). Therefore, the mirror sees everything for what it is, and does not lie. The mirror looks across the empty room most of the time (6) and meditates on the pink speckled wall across from it (7). The mirror is attached to the wall, and has looked at that wall for so long, that the wall is thought to be part of my heart (8). The darkness in the room and the people who consider the mirror are the faces and darkness that separate the woman and the mirror (9). In the next stanza, the mirror is now portraying itself as a lake (10). A woman is looking into the lake (10), and she is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Emissioning Model Case Study VSP based operating mode identification binning approach. Many studies showed the ability of VSP based emission models to reflect the transient emission rates under different operating modes as well as the better estimation of vehicle emissions than speed based emission models (Song et al., 2013). Scora et al. (2011) combined real time traffic data along with the comprehensive modal emission models (CMEM and MOVES) to estimate the environmental measures in real time. The estimation methodology based on OpMode bin provided far more dynamic and accurate environmental information compared to static emission inventory estimation models. The OpMode bin emission rates for each vehicle technology in the MOVES default database represent a base ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Song et al. (2013) developed a practical model evaluate the environmental effectiveness of ITS strategies by using data from PEMS. The models are developed through considering the influence of the vehicle s operating mode (VSP distribution) on vehicle emissions, which not only guarantees the accuracy of emissions and fuel consumption models, but also makes it possible to accumulate current traffic information systems in Beijing. Wang et al. (2008) established a model based on VSP and speed, which provided insight that how different levels of cruise speed and acceleration affect vehicle fuel consumption. The model prediction shows that vehicle fuel consumption per unit distance is optimum at speeds between 50 and 70 km/h which is similar to the observed data from PEMS. This is evident in the literature that in order to improve both the applicability and accuracy of the existing emission models instantaneous vehicle activity data are needed which can be collected from the on board emission system like PEMS to consider all real conditions which might induce the modeling errors and improve the model precisions. In summary, the microscopic simulation modeling has provided an accurate and reliable representation of vehicular operations in roadway networks so far in the literature. From the literature we also found that, most of the vehicle emissions data used in modeling are collected in a controlled laboratory environment or simulation based. With ... Sarcophagus In Anthropology Throughout history, archaeology has been a tool used to learn more about past human activities and their cultures by analyzing artifacts, architecture, environment data, and etc. that has been left behind. By analyzing the physical details such as size/dimensions, material, style, images depicted, and the location of the artifact, this can help people determine the reason and purpose of its existence. • 13. Thomas Hobbes And John Locke On Liberty In this essay, the contrasting ideas of Thomas Hobbes and John Locke on liberty will be discussed and critically analyzed. Freedom is the idea of being able to do what one wants to, however, in a society, laws are created to make us all equal. Laws apply to every one of us in a civilized democratic society, which is the common voice that keeps us living together without violating each other s rights. Author s general view.7 Thomas Hobbes primarily expresses the idea of liberty using sovereignty as a model. According to him, sovereignty was established by agreement initially, but he goes on to say that sovereignty established by force incorporates the same rights and requirements of the social contract. The difference lies in the way the sovereign is retained, installed and thought of. A sovereign coming into power by universal consent is supported by the masses, as people fear each other. In contrast to this, a sovereign that comes into power by force gains support as the people fear the sovereign himself. Both of these sovereigns are mutually consented to by social contract, which is driven by fear in either case. In the state of nature, liberty was non existent as actions were influenced by fear of death and fear of the power held by others. While fear and power are present in The Leviathan, the person has acquired absolute liberty as he handed over fear and power to the sovereign to use as tools consentingly making him responsible for his own fate should the sovereign ... For the youth bike we decided to keep the advertising expenditure at 2 million in order to raise the awareness of this new product line. This also helps establish a good market share in case competitors also decide to launch the youth bike. Since we have a low capacity for the bike, we also decided to increase the price from $370 to $400, resulting in an increase in gross margin. And when I put it into the fomula by using the mass and the volume I was able to work out the density: 92.6/11 = 8.4g/cm^3. I have researched and found that the galena was probably formed inside a hydrothermal vein by precipitation. Psychoanalytic Theory Of Human Development Psychoanalytic Theory Psychoanalytic Theory is a theory of human development that holds that irrational, unconscious drives and motives, often originating in childhood, underlie human behavior. It is thought to influence every aspect of thinking and behavior, from the smallest details of life to the crucial choices of a lifetime. Sigmund Freud is an Austrian physician who believed the stages of human development were characterized by sexual pleasure centered on a particular part of the body. Oral Stage (Birth to 1 year) In infancy, everything the child gets a hold of goes to their mouth. The lips, tongue, and gums are the focus of pleasurable sensations in the baby s body. They love to suck on their fingers or pacifier majority of the time, even in their sleep. Anal Stage (1 3 years) The anal is the focus of pleasurable sensations in the baby s body. During this time children are beginning toilet training. They are now able to interpret when they need to use the restroom and able to communicate to the parents when they need to go. Phallic Stage (3 6 years) During this stage, the penis is the most important body part, and pleasure is derived from genital stimulation. This is the time when they begin to discover their genitals, girls may ask questions while on the other hand, boys may feel a sense of pride. • 18. Having A System In Twelve Angry, By Reginald Rose What is the point of having a system if it has faults to it? A family friend was being held at the adult detention center. His family was not able to hire a lawyer for him at the time, so a lawyer was appointed to him. The problem with his appointed lawyer was that he didn t speak Spanish and the family friend didn t speak English, therefore there was no way of communication. The lawyer did not find out anything about his case, he didn t find out whether or not he had a work permit or a visa, which he did but had been expired. The attorney appointed to him just said, Sign the papers and you ll be released here. The family friend just did what the lawyer said because he thought he was helping him, not creating a bigger problem. Now, he is fighting to stay here where he has built a life with his wife and kids. Again, what is the point of having a system if it has faults to it? Problems in the system have been present since about the 1930s or 1940s and are still present to this day, it may not have as many faults however some are still present. The play, Twelve Angry Men, written by Reginald Rose, is about a kid on trial who is accused of murdering his father. Testimonies given by neighbors are raising questions among the jurors. • 19. Acceptance In 12 Angry Men By Reginald Rose s 12 Angry Men Imagine living in a world where differences are celebrated and diversity can be seen everywhere you go. The world would be a place where you would not have to be afraid to hide who you choose to become, your opinions will not be casted aside despite it s not being what majority agreed upon, and society would simply just be accepting and loving. However, reality is quite the opposite, for years human beings had struggled with racism, discriminations, and accepting others different from themselves. As shown in recent events, the Texas church shooting occurred due to an unknown shooter opened fired during mass on November 5 because they did not approved of Christianity. This event led to the death of 26 people, the event illustrates discrimination against one s religion. From this it is safe to say that people should accept those different from themselves to an extent that would benefits the society today; however, there are situations where acceptance is not an option due to one s action causing harm to other. Acceptance allows society to be more just towards people who have different opinions other than the majority and someone of a different race. In 12 Angry Men written by Reginald Rose, due to Juror Eight showing acceptance and voiced a different opinion than the rest of the jurors, justice was served for the wrongly accused boy. In the film adaptation, we re also taken on a whirlwind ride, but this time in the form of a murder mystery. Michael Curtiz s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Greed, family bonds, and independence are also key players in the story as Mildred fights to please Veda and wait upon her every whim. The novel s narrative configuration lends itself more to enhancing the betrayal aspect of the story, Mildred finding Veda and Monte in bed, Veda attributing the fake loss of her singing voice to Mildred nearly strangling her, or Veda leaving Mildred with the truth of her reconciliation simply being a ploy. However, the film is much more suited for conveying the theme of greed. Interestingly enough, the Motion Picture Production Code was too strict at the time to allow a strict adaptation of the novel s events. Thus, the murder mystery was created to send Veda to jail for breaking the law and the sexual betrayal was toned down, therefore guiding the filmmakers to exploit the greedy, obsessive aspects of Veda in the case of the film to allow the audience to develop their hatred towards her. The viewer could understand Mildred s desire to please her daughter, and her immense love for her, so the film s use of flashbacks makes the viewer wonder whether Mildred is truly describing how awful Veda was to her over the course of the story. The omniscient nature of the Cain novel reveals Veda s flaws as they occurred, but Mildred could easily be applying a filter to make her daughter seem better than she is or, perhaps, worse. The film s configuration is also wonderful at trying to make the viewer consider the dangers of the greed, independence, and betrayal occurring on screen, as they know what is coming for Monte they just not entirely sure ... • 28. The Colonization Of Africa Is A Significant Reason Why The... The colonization of Africa is a significant reason why the educational system in Africa is split between the countries it holds. Between the late 1800s and early 1900s Africa faced many military annexations and diplomatic conquests. The impact of colonialism has influenced the conflicts in Liberia that happened in the late 1900s. Liberia s civil wars held a responsibility for the devastation that is implicated in its racial stance. Social Darwinism gave support for the superior rule over Africa. Liberia s conflicts play a notable role in how westernization of education and race are viewed throughout Africa. Liberia s education system emerged because of these conflicts. Colonizing Africa began between the 1870s 1900. An important tragedy of colonization is the stripping of ethnicities. Modern Africa is a product of European imperialism, not African heritage and tradition. Once the profits of the slave trade collapsed, because of its abolition, European markets were looking for ways to keep a steady way to make profits. Traditionally, Africa had been divided into groups by tribe, family, clan and lineage. During the process of colonization these characteristics were social, economic and political. Colonial state formation caused new values, institutions and operational principles to take place. The African colonization required the taking of territories that were unknown to the political world. The old views on who would run each group were diminished by the new rulers ... Although, as mongooses are extremely curious, Rikki Tikki, decided to wander around the area, and found himself caught in a sticky situation. Firstly, Rikki Tikki explored the family s garden. Although, he seemed to notice the animals there were not thriving there, they all seemed to be scared. There were large plants and trees he found that he described, big as houses. While in the garden, he met a tailorbird, Darzee, and his wife. They explained to Rikki Tikki that their family, and the whole garden was in danger. • 30. Survival In Auschwitz Essay Imagine now a man who is deprived of everyone he loves, and at the same time of his house, his habits, his clothes, in short, of everything he possesses: he will be a hollow man, reduced to suffering and needs, forgetful of dignity and restraint, for he who loses all often easily loses himself. This short quote is taken from Primo Levi s Survival in Auschwitz . It depicts a true story of Primo Levi during the Holocaust, who was relocated to an extermination camp after beginning a great life after college. Primo was captured with a resistant group from Italy. He used his college education and degree in chemistry to stay alive. The above quote brings a similar quote to mind. ... He had nothing except for life, something most people who walked through the front gates of Auschwitz lost. Jesus Christ lived a similar life many, many years before. He lived his young adulthood life teaching the people of the world about God and humanity. He cherished his life and the life of others. He respected all living things and tried to help them live a non sinful life. He too was deprived of things near the end of his life. Like Primo, Jesus was convicted of what he thought and spoke of and was killed. The main difference between the two men is that Jesus lost his life. Jesus though had a second chance as he was later resurrected from hell and brought into heaven. There he again helped the people of the world. Furthermore, both of these men were convicted of religious believes and ripped away of their lives. Even though Primo died many years after his stay at Auschwitz, he was never the same before that. He will be a man whose life and death can be lightly decided with no sense of human affinity, in the most fortunate of cases, on the basis of a pure judgment of utility. Most people would be annoyed at giving an organization around $20 a month. However, when it is broken down into a daily contribution that is less than a dollar a day, it seems feasible for people to donate the amount to aid these poor animals. The images of the animals for whom the assistance came too late implies that if one more person had donated, that animal would have been saved. Therefore, the commercial implies that if they do not donate, the animal in need of their aid will die. Their plea for donations is supported by the images of the doleful animals and the videos of the animals who are struggling even to walk because of the injuries that they have faced. Additionally, the beginning of the commercial presents the viewers with a statistic of 3000 animals are tortured in America every day (ASPCA). This shows how often this type of abuse occurs in America, and how critical it is to attempt to stop the mistreatment of the animals. • 33. Evaluation Of A Non Independent Variable, Dependent... Methodology The design of the study revolves around three variables including an independent variable, a dependent variable, and a mediation variable; where the independent variable is the average number of hours a student studies per week, the dependent variable is the average restfulness of student s sleep, and the mediating variable is stress reaction. It is hypothesized that the average number of hours a student studies per week is associated to their positive sleep quality rating, where the higher number of hours of studying will predict a lower positive sleep quality rating. In addition, a student s stress reaction score measured by multidimensional personality questionnaire (MPQ) standards on stress reaction factor will act as a mediator on the student s sleep quality. A total of 278 participants aided in the formation of the data and statistics of this study. This sample was chosen through a voluntary questionnaire given to Fall Semester 2016 Psychology300 students. It was a convenient sample to take from due to the high likelihood of most of the student s taking the survey. The questionnaire was administered through an online survey website termed Qualtrics. Currently, progabide is an established drug that is used to control epileptic seizures. However, there are no studies conducted that combine both melatonin agonists and GABA agonists together to treat epileptic seizures. Our results showed that there was a decrease in seizure propensity when treating the mice with melatonin and GABA agonists, however, there was an even significant decrease in seizure propensity when these two treatments were combined together. Progabide is not a relatively popular drug for the treatment for epilepsy, so there are no concrete list of symptoms for this drug. However, central nervous system depressants in general tend to produce symptoms such as drowsiness or dizziness. It can also lead to suicidal thoughts or depression.21 Thus, when combined with melatonin agonists, it may produce more intense feelings of drowsiness because melatonin also causes increased drowsiness in humans. This experiment could have been improved if we had used rats that were genetically engineered or born with a proclivity towards seizures. This way, we could have seen the effects of GABA and melatonin agonists on rats that had organic long term seizures rather than short term seizures that were induced artificially by kainic acid. It was found that rats purchased from a group of Crj:Wistar rats from the company Charles River Japan spontaneously exhibited seizures. These rats were then inbred and their seizure susceptibility loci (Ner1 and Ner2) were mapped out on chromosomes 1 and 3.22 Perhaps by using these rats, we can truly mimic seizures that are more closely related to the ones produced ... • 35. History of Comic Books The distribution, audience, narrative style, and dramatic content, of comic books were the direct descendants of the pulp magazine. They were called pulp magazine because they were printed on the cheapest paper for non costly mass distribution, these publications were as old as newspaper comic strips. Pulp magazines can be traced to their Civil War era ancestors, called dime novels. Unlike the funnies, pulp magazines styles were outside of the mainstream and featured adventure, fantasy, and suspense. In 1933, Harry Wildenberg and Max Gaines took the traditional comic and folded it in half and then created the first four color newsprint comic. It would became the new format which is still seen in modern comic books still today. The biggest rise in comic books was World War II, because the comic had two underling messages at the time that kept the industry alive: social reform and patriotism. The DC superhero comics implicitly stressed a common interest in public welfare and strong federal government all based its comics around the Social status of America at the time. While Marvel comics took up the cause of WWII patriotism in the early creation of Captain America, by showing Captain America punching Hitler. The biggest underling message of comics during the Golden Age is the defense of normal people and good citizens. • 36. Excessive Pride In The Iliad Excessive pride Excessive pride seems to be the core of people s everyday struggles. Having excessive pride can turn into being obnoxious and self centered. Believing in what you only say and not being opened minded to the people around you could also have an outcome of disastrous events. In the novel the iliad by Homer many characters struggle with this trait, some overcome it and some feed into it. In the beginning of the book Agamemnon seems to be self centered with the way he leads. Achilles tries to defend the people by exclaiming why it s wrong for agamemnon to take all the prizes that his men have worked for. Agamemnon basically thinks he has higher seniority which means he gets to pick the best prizes to have amongst his men that they worked for. When achilles doesn t agree with this he threatens to leave and agamemnon says Fly if you will, I shall make you no prayers to stay you. I have others here who will do me honor, and above all Jove, the lord of council. After the war began He realized he shouldn t have underestimated the trojans, for the achaeans were now losing against them. Later on in the book he puts his pride aside and asks achilles to come back and help them with the war. This shows when realizing what is better for his men he puts all aside for the win of the achaeans. This book, taught in many high school classrooms, has been critiqued and analyzed in several ways, the characters and story line becoming familiar throughout academia. However, what many high school classrooms do not address is the sub textual homosexual references made throughout the book. In fact, several books authored by Melville, once viewed upon closer inspection, can be read as a testament to the queer tendencies of the novelist. Specifically, in Melville s novel Moby Dick, there are several allusions to a possibly intimate relationship between Ishmael and Queequeg, as well as several sub textual references to homosexual attraction in general. The most blatant example of this is found in the interactions of Ishmael at the inn in chapters three and four. Not only do they share a bed, Ishmael claims to have never slept better in [his] life that night (Moby Dick, 64). Upon waking, Ishmael finds Queequeg s arm thrown over [him] in the most loving and affectionate manner. He even goes as far as to note: You had almost thought I had been his wife. (Moby Dick, 65) Later, as Ishmael and Queequeg smoke together, Ishmael states that Queequeg pressed his forehead against mine, clasped me round the waist, and said henceforth we were married. (Moby Dick, 112) There are several other allusions to the marriage of the two characters such as in Melville s description of Queequeg s actions: his bridegroom clasp and hugging a fellow male in that matrimonial sort of style. He suggests that others should, like him, ignore what others think and act purely on what you believe. Fiasco uses the analogy of slaves to describe the similar effects of losing one s individuality. The experiences one would face if he/she succumbs into the negative influences of others would be similar to that of African American slaves. Because of human nature, jealousy exists amongst every individual and by allowing others to control aspects of your life, he/she will be able harm those dependent variables of one s life. Similarly, Whitman states that one should freely ...give alms to everyone that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown or to any man or number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and with the mothers of families... With these deaths resulting from unnecessary missions, it seems comprehensive why Yossarian questions the ethics of his outranking officials.
