Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis TertiusBy Jorge Luis Borges
Ana Bahena English 102D Izenberg November 2, 2017 Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius Jorge Luis
Borges is widely known for his bizarre short stories that question all aspects of life and our
world. Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius is no different putting into question everything we believe to be
true. Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius is a narrative account of an individual who has discovered the
fictional land of Uqbar in one of the version of an encyclopedia. Throughout the story, the man
keeps investigating more on this place and finds that its importance comes from Tlon, one of the
subdivisions of Uqbar, and its literature. Tlon is an ideal world, which the reader later finds out,
created by a secret society, Orbis Tertius and has been equipped with its... Show more content on

No matter how many variations of Uqbar (Ukbar, Ucbar, Ookbar, Oukbahr) he searches for, he
cannot seem to find this place. In order to appease the narrator, Casares tells him that [Uqbar]
was a region in Iraq or Asia Minor (Borges 68). Casares uses words and places that the narrator
knows and connects with so that the narrator can place this fictional world within the real world.
Although completely doubtful of his friend, the narrator consults the atlases of Justus Perthes just
to make sure that Uqbar is not real, as he believes it to be. This part in the short story, although
minute, is crucial because it causes tension between that the narrator believes to be real and that
which he doubts to be real. In this same manner, the text itself is causing tension between what
the reader knows to be real and what is fiction. The reader assumes that what he/she is reading is
fiction, but this comes in conflict with the constant use of real works and people such as the
Encyclopedia Britannica, the N.R.F, Bioy Casares, Justus Perthes, and many others. The
specificity of terms and names of real authors and theorists that are fused into the work bring an
apparent legitimacy to what is read. Yet, as the reader continues, the story becomes seemingly
false. The reader s experience is mirrored in the text as the narrator goes through a similar
development of realization regarding the encyclopedia entry on Uqbar. As

Employee Engagement and Organizational Success
Leaders also try to achieve the same quality for their own status, which allows them to pursue
greater strength, achieve personal goals and future endeavours. According to a recent study
conducted by Psychometrics Canada a pioneer in research assessment, has mentioned in one of its
report that employee engagement in the organisation plays a major role in the success of any
organisation. Accordingly it says that the best way to increase the relation is by working out a
strategy that builds positive environment and culture relations between the workers and ensuring a
good leader to fit for the purpose. Leaders in the organisation can try to achieve a better employee
engagement by listening to followers opinions, communicating his vision with a clarity, providing
and developing strategies and solution for the success, and finally recognising the ability of the
followers and praising their contributions. Thisaspect of leadershipis displayed by general
feedback, generating ideas and possess enthusiastic in requesting for help (Bradley P. Owens,
2013). One example of this leadership quality is described by DAVID J. BOBB(David J B,
2013) in his book saying following servant leadership is very difficult as it is not a natural talent

On Different Values of Individualism in Chinese and American Cultures
1. Introduction Everyone, every social class and every country have their own unique values. It is
the fact that value is the core of cross culture communication and the differences of culture among
countries depend on different values. Value exerts great influence on everyone s daily life. Scores
of people rely on value to obtain knowledge, master the basic skills and foster correct world
outlook. China and America are two opposite countries in terms of different values. It exists in
many different fields in China and America such as politics, literature and family structure. The

Tocqueville thought that individualism could be associated with individual value, dignity, happiness,
interests and freedom. At the same time, he endowed it into relatively complete theoretical
connotations (Alexis de Tocqueville, 1988). Firstly, it emphasizes the ultimate purpose is for
individual interests. Society is just a tool that serves people. Secondly, it stresses on individual
freedom and democracy. Thirdly, it points out from personal view the rightness of privatization of
property. American historian Commager thought that individualism eventually became the
synonym of Americanism (1988). In the Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English of the 1997
editionпјЊindividualism is defined as two concepts. One is the belief that the rights and freedom of
individual people are the most important rights in a society. The other is the behavior or attitude of
someone who does things in their own way without being influenced by other people. On the
contrary, individualism is defined as pejorative connotation in The Contemporary Chinese
Dictionary (2005). It points out that individualism means some people who just care about their
own interests instead of collective interests, which is not a right idea. By the analysis of the
definition of individualism it s clear that the pattern of Chinese culture stresses people s inner world
and embodies in

The Canadian Criminal Justice System
It is believed that while all human kind may have had common beginnings in the millennia past, the
course of human history prevents all races from reverting back to that common kind. It is further
believed that the racism that subsists in today s society does not exist in the same manner within
Canada. While Canadais an egalitarian society, a close examination would suggest that the blunt
historical and social truths of racism that are often smugly denied exist very much in Canadian
society and have seeped into the Canadian criminal justicesystem. The racialization of crime,
discriminatory policing, minority overrepresentation in prison populations and a blatant denial of
justice are aspects of the system that taint much of its past and create a worried present. This paper
argues against the prevalent Canadian defence of egalitarianism by establishing the presence of
systemic discrimination within the Canadian criminal justice system.
Whether it is through print or through television screens, the press is the today s public s sole
source of news; especially news about crime and the courts. The tendency of the press to focus on
crimes committed by minorities majorly influences the justice system s reaction to minority
offenders. A minority criminal is never given the racial anonymity that a non minority criminal
enjoys. The following are news headlines and/or excerpts from court reports illustrating the
aforementioned; : Warm Pipe Scorches Chink Opium User (Toronto

There is proof in the pudding. This clichГ© has been used an immeasurable amount of times to
express that evidence to the claim leads to its legitimacy. It has been speculated for many years
that grades are being inflated, and students are receiving A s for mediocre work. In fact, the
introduction of Alfie Kohn s The Dangerous Myth of Grade Inflation shows reports of the matter

Earthquakes in North Texas have been popular in the past couple of years. Texas has never been

underground soil to crack. It only gives airways for gas or oil to work its way up to the surface.
The theory of hydraulic fracturing does not add up for some but that the wastewater disposals

Jimmy Valentine From A Retrieved Reformation
Why Jimmy Valentine from A Retrieved Reformation is a Good Character I argue that Jimmy
Valentine from A Retrieved Reformation is a good character. He is a good character for the
following reasons. Firstly, Jimmy gives money to a blind man. Secondly, Jimmy frees a little
girl from a safe. Finally, Ben Price does not prosecute Jimmy. Overall, Jimmy from A Retrieved
Reformation is anything but a villain. Jimmy gives money to a blind man. In the text, it states,
He gave some money to a blind man who sat there, asking for money, and then he got on the train
(Porter, 2). Rather than keeping this money, Jimmy gives it to a poor, blind man. This blind man
will likely never give anything back to Jimmy, yet Jimmy gives him some of his money anyway.
Because of this second kind act, Jimmy shows that he truly is good. If I were in that situation and
I were freed from jail for the first time in years, I would (unfortunately) not give any of my money
to the blind man. I would keep that money to spend on self indulgement.... Show more content on

Valentine took his place. Stand away from the door, all of you, he commanded. He put his bag

the power to move. In a minute Jimmy was at work on the door. In ten minutes faster than he had

This thesis is written to provide a historical and policy evaluative perspective on the topic of the
False Claims Act and it s Qui Tam provisions. The False Claims Act is a fairly old Act, dating
back to 1863. The Act was first enacted to fight procurement fraud but in recent years the focus
has turned to health care fraud. This thesis will seek to determine whether or not the False
Claims Act and it s Qui Tam provisions are an effective tool in fighting fraud, in particular health
care fraud. The focus of this thesis will be to evaluate the False Claims Act (FCA) and in
particular its Qui Tam provisions. A closer look will be taken at the emergence of a very lucrative
type of fraud in the United States. This type of fraud has only been on

I had intended to post Part II of the WWI question last night, but got caught up doing movie
reviews on Life of Ando. So to slake your ravenous historical thirst in the meantime, here is my
assignment from my history class this past week. If you re really into American history and how
the politics of the early Republic shook out, Jefferson vs. Hamilton is a great study. It s also a
little, I guess comforting, to know that as bad as we think today s politicians are, politics was
always a very dirty game. Like Bismarck said, Laws are like sausages. Better to not see them being

However, without Hamilton s counter balance Jefferson s policies may have left the government
weak and ineffectual to deal with major crises both at home and abroad.
Each viewpoint needed the other to create a government that would be strong enough to protect
itself and it s people from internal and external strife, but not so strong that it would infringe on
the rights of the people as enumerated in the Bill of Rights and in the Revolutionary spirit. These
issues, of course, weren t resolved or ceased to be relevant after Hamilton and Jefferson left the
scene. These are still very much the issues we deal with even now, over 200 years later. As much
as we might dislike, or even hate, the position of the other party, without some balance both sides
would undoubtedly abuse their power...more than they already do.

Seeing With The Eyes Or The Brain
Seeing with the eyes or the brain: What goes wrong in common eye conditions?
There are many parts of the eye which work in unison in order to detect certain stimuli. For
example, the photoreceptors are split into two categories; the rods and the cones (named due to the
shape of the cell). In the retina there are 120 million rods that help your eyes to adjust to dimly lit
images or, in other words, allow you to see better in dark places. They are also highly sensitive in
comparison to cones and have a slow recovery from working in such conditions.
In contrast, the cones are located in the fovea and, although there are less cones than rods (only 6
million), they take up the majority of the central fovea. The cones detect a very different stimulus
to the rods as their primary function is to detect different colours in the images observed by the
eyes. It does this by using a protein named photopsin whereas the rods use rhodopsin. The cones
also are also a lot less sensitive than the rods and have a shorter integration time (faster recovery
from conditions in which they are needed to work).
Another main part of the eye which helps us to detect stimuli is the lens. The main function of the
lens is to focus light onto the retina so that it can send electrical impulses to the brain and it can
make sense of what it is seeing. Moreover, the pupil and the cornea both work together to allow the
light to enter the eye whereas the iris controls how much light enters the eye by changes

America s dependence on foreign oil has become a huge problem according to T. Boone Pickens, as
our intake is not decreasing but increasing. To find a solution Americans must first be informed that,
Americans use 25% of the oil in the world and our population is only 4%. Be shown how it can be
fixed through renewable energy such as wind, solar and electric and what progress can be made by
using these continually in the next 10 years. If we are setting the foundation for our future we must

First wind, according to the America Wind Energy Association,
Wind power generated more electricity in 2015 than the combined generation from all sources in
Georgia and Colorado.
Wind power supports 73,000 well paying jobs across all 50 states. Nearly 20,000 American workers
at over 500 factories across 43 states now build wind turbine parts and materials. The DOE s Wind
Vision report says growing wind energy to supply 20 percent of U.S. electricity by 2030 could
support 380,000 jobs.
How astounding that by creating turbines, we are able to harness that much electricity. Creating
jobs for thousands of workers and their families. Now what about solar? The Sun has been around
since the beginning of humanity and how foolish of us not to use more of it s natural rays.
Consider harnessing the sun s power to make electricity.
Nearly 209,000 Americans work in solar more than double the number in 2010 at more than 9,000
companies in every U.S. state. By 2021, that number is expected to increase to more than 360,000
workers (SEIA).
This not only provides jobs for those who are out of work, but essentially we could be more
efficient in our daily lives by going solar. In the Scientific American, two innovators, Jacobsen a
civil and environmental engineer at Stanford University along with Mark Delucchi a research
scientist at the University of California constructed a plan to get America 100% solar and say it is

Sports Communication Research Paper
Sports Communications
Sports connect with people in a very direct and personal way. The sport world stays connected by
using social media. Staying connected through social media allows the consumer to communicate
with an organization in a more direct way (Newman et al., 2013). A major regional sporting
network is Root Sports, which is a network that provides news for fans, teams, sponsors, etc. A
member of the networking team is Jen Mueller, a reporter for live sporting events, an anchor and a
producer for magazine shows in Seattle, WA (Root Sports, 2016).
After high school Mueller spent her time volunteering and working in the sports field. She worked
for the athletic department, newspaper, broadcast station and also coached swimming. Mueller

The Vs. Real Madrid Essay
The issue that is being investigated are between two Spanish football (soccer) teams which team is
ultimately better? Both giants in their own right, Barcelona and Real Madrid have traded success
and feuded for a very long time. Both sets of fans have fought over which team is better comparing
players, stats, style of play, managers, stadiums, etc.
B)What is your thesis? (this will be different than the Classical model thesis)
Through the giant rivalry where both teams boast world class talent, tactical managers and large
finances behind them, Real Madrid and Barcelona have established themselves as two of football s
biggest clubs.
C)What common ground do you share? (A value both sides agree on)
Both sides come from Spain, a place where football is highly competitive. This local rivalry is
important because there is a ton of psychology that effects players on the pitch. Every player
WANTS to win, there is nothing being held back when the players go onto the field. Historically,
both teams are extremely successful. Real Madrid and Barcelona have over 20 league titles each,
32 and 22 respectively. As for the Spanish Cup, Copa del Rey, they are also very triumphant, Real
Madrid s 19 wins to Barcelona s 26. This massive success in these local competitions cemented both
teams as the most victorious teams in all of Spain. Europe s biggest competition, UEFA Champions
League, where all the fantastic teams all across Europe compete with one another, is another area

Kant Good Will
The value of an action varies in regards to the qualifications of such. Mill found value in the
consequentialist motives of an instrumental utilitarianistic will; Socrates emphasized the
refinement of virtues in the proceeding actions of good men. Immanuel Kant took a differing
approach to this, boldly stating that a good will is the only thing with full value in itself (394);
making the claim that the source of value lies solely within the motive of the action itself. While
earlier philosophers emphasized happiness as the end goal of all humanity, Kant sought after the
fallacy in these claims. He found deontology as the final remaining factor uncorrupted by the
possibility of human perversion, leading to a good will being the only marker of... Show more

If, even with man s best effort, nothing is achieved, any process of good will must be regarded
as such (394). This marks a definite shift in philosophical thought; the consideration of good
without any remark on the consequences of one s actions and thoughts. Kant does not emphasize
the creation of happiness as the goal of one s choices, since happiness is a subjective marker open
to corruption (396). Multiple actions can produce this result, while the same action can differ in
its consequences. This uncertainty necessitates a different, more concrete definition of moral
value. Value then, can be derived in the purity of one s motivation. Regardless of the outcome of
such, intentions of good will can never be unappreciated as lesser than. It exists as the foundation
of all that can be regarded as valuable, and must be the first step in the evaluation of the quality of
one s actions. When one acts from duty, rather than simply alongside of it, their actions have moral
value (397 8). Duty stands as the definitive motivator of one s action, of which the true intent can

Why Should Magnetic Levitation Trains be Implemented in...
Magnetic Levitation Trains
Magnetic Levitation Trains, why should they be implemented in the United States? Whenever
individuals talk about trains, a few ideas pop into one s mind. These include the railway tracks
that provide runways for the wheels, the noise associated with them and the long heavy carriages
that they pull. Utilizing the words Magnetic Levitation in relation to trains may seem like a
peculiar idea. Why? Levitation can be described as the act of raising an object upward in relation
with its lightness. Trains are known to be heavy. Magnetic levitation, which is also known as
Maglev, is a rail technology that utilizes a special magnetized railway track to suspend a train on a
magnetic cushion so that it can move freely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The alternating current induces a shifting magnetic field, which creates different temporary poles at
timed intervals. Due to the positioning of the semiconducting magnets and creation of the different
electromagnetic forces, the like pole tend to push while the unlike poles attract, therefore, causing
motion in the direction dictated by the alternating current (Funk and Getsla, 2006).
Adoption of this technology in the United States of America would change the railway
transportation system forever. Firstly, the Maglev trains do not produce any noise. This is because
the technology does not incorporate wheels, bearings, axles and the metallic railway track
(Livingston, 2011). The train is propelled by and kept on the guide way by the well coordinated
magnetic forces acting within the semiconducting magnet and the coils. This means that the noise
pollution caused by trains as they move from town to town would be eliminated (McMahon and
Mora, 2010).
Secondly, this technology does not cause any friction between the train and the track, therefore,
allowing for smooth rides. As the train floats on the track, the friction and the unevenness of the
conventional track are eliminated (Shadbolt, 2013).. This facilitates individuals to carry out various
activities such as reading and working in a comfortable manner compared to the conventional
trains. Adopting this technology will provide more comfort in the public transportation sector.

Psychodynamic Approach To Religion
1)As a result of the immensely diverse nature of the phenomena it intends to understand, the study
of religion requires a multitude of analytic methods. Consequently, these methods may be

INTRODUCTION
INTRODUCTION:
India has been known as the original home of sugarcane and sugar. Indians knew the art of making
sugar since the fourth century. However the advent of modern sugar industry in India dates back to
mid 1930 s when a few vacuum pan units were established in the sub tropical belts of Uttar Pradesh
and Bihar.
Until the mid 50s, the sugar industry was almost wholly confined to the states of Uttar Pradesh and
Bihar. After late fifties or early sixties the industry dispersed into Southern India, Western India and
other parts of Northern India.
India is the largest consumer and second largest producer of sugar in the world. The sufficient and
well distributed monsoon rains, rapid population growth and substantial increases in sugar
production capacity have combined to make India the largest consumer and second largest producer
of sugar in the world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With over 450 sugar factories located throughout the country, the sugar industry is amongst the
largest agro processing industries, with an annual turnover of Rs150bn. It plays a major role in
rural development and its importance for India stretches far beyond the role of a sweetener supplier.
The sugar factories located in various parts of the country work as nuclei for development of rural
areas by mobilizing rural resources and generating employment, transport and communication
facilities. Over 45mn farmers, their dependants and a large mass of agricultural labor are involved
in sugarcane cultivation, harvesting and ancillary activities constituting 7.5% of the rural
population. The sugar industry employs over 0.5mn skilled and unskilled workmen, mostly from

The Physics in Lacrosse
Lacrosse is a team sport that originated in the St. Lawrence Valley area, around 1546. It is
played with a small rubber ball, a long stick with a sort of basket at the end, and padding (it is a
contact sport). The objective of the game is to shoot the ball into the other team s goal, using the
stick to pass, cradle and shoot. At first, the game was played on a distance of even several miles,
and anywhere between 100 and 100000 players in a single game. The teams are now composed
of ten players each, 3 of them are offense, 3 defense, 3 midfielders, that can go anywhere on the
field, and one goalie, which is the heart of the team. In this essay I will focus on the physics that
stand behind lacrosse, and how companies that make lacrosse gear use our knowledge and
understanding of forces to make padding and helmets that are safer, and sticks that are made for
different kinds of play styles (contact defense, precision, fast offense...).

Head
The design of a Lacrosse head impacts the game in a great way, because the pocket of the
Lacrosse stick affects how the ball comes out of the stick. During a shot the kinetic energy of the
shaft is transferred into the head, which in turn stretches the mesh (elastic energy), and transfers it
to the ball as k. energy. The shooting strings in the mesh (the 3 big ones that look like shoe laces)
turn the force the ball has and turns it into angular

Sexual Relationships And Relationships
Relationships could be defined in different meanings, as far as friendships, romantic, and sexual
relationships. There is a study that stated young adults acknowledge relationships as rather romantic
and or sexual and their confusing territory of intimate (and sometimes impersonal) interaction.
Romantic relationships are the norm during the adolescent years (Erikson 1950; Zimmer Gembeck
2002), and individuals engage in these relationships as they move into young adulthood. According
to Freedman, people reality of themselves, their families, and their romantic and sexual
relationships are a result of the personal stories they tell (Freedman and Combs 1996). Young adults

Examples Of Power Corrupts
Many would say that power corrupts. The phrase penned by John Dalberg, Power corrupts, and
absolute power corrupts absolutely, has become a clichГ© idiom thrown about when discussing
power. Does it really though? Does power really corrupt every man it touches? Power is merely
a tool, neither inherently good nor bad. Power, similar to magic , is subject to the one who
wields it. If something wicked wields power, the power will lead to wicked things. However,
power in the hands of good will lead to good things it is a reflection of the heart. In J.R.R. Tolkien
s book The Fellowship of the Ring his characters exhibit different reactions to power. Some crave
it, others lust for it, and one in particular shuns it. Power is a tool;... Show more content on

In the opening of the first book The Fellowship of the Ring Tolkien puts a poem which begins,
Three Rings for the Elven kings under the sky, Seven for Dwarf lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die, One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne... (Tolkien 49).
The men were doomed to die. Similarly, in our world men are doomed to die without the
salvation of Jesus, for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, and they are justified
freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. (Romans 3:23 24) This is
why men in Tolkien s books have such a hard time handling power. For example the nine mortal
men give in to the temptation to abuse their power and consequently they turn into wraiths, undying
slaves of Sauron. Man s heart is corrupt in Middle Earth same as it is corrupt in our world, and
this is why it appears that power always corrupts when it is really just the corruption of man
brought to light by the influence of power. The great sin here is lust. The lust for power, or money,
or women, or gold (Thorin Oakenshield) is the great downfall of man. Each thing individually is
not evil, but it is the lust that is, and it is the lust that

While puppies begging at the dinner table is virtually harmless, it can be quite an annoyance. It is a
common problem and the first thing you need to know to begin solving it is that begging is not an
instinctual behavior. Sometime during your puppy s life you have actually trained him to do this

When someone slips the puppy a scrap under the table or the puppy is fed leftovers afterwards, the
puppy will quickly learn to come back next time and wait/ beg for more.
The number one way to stop the begging problem is to never let it start. This may seem obvious
but it only takes one instance of you feeding your puppy from the table to start a begging
problem. A good rule of thumb I use is to only feed your puppy from his food bowl This means that
you can still feed your puppy scraps if you really want to. As long as you are sure to put them in
your puppy s food bowl first.
If you have been feeding your puppy scraps from the dinner table for a while now, than the
begging can be difficult to stop. Luckily, there are a few different methods you can use to help.
Never feed your puppy anything from the table. If possible, always have your puppy eat from his
bowl.
As always with attention seeking behaviors, when your puppy is begging you need to completely
ignore him. Just pretend he is not there. After a certain period of time any puppy will stop
begging. Keep in mind that this method will probably not work over night. If your puppy has been
fed from the table for eight months than it could take a month for your puppy to cease the

Eli Whitney and the Cotton Gin Essay
Eli Whitney and the Cotton Gin
Eli Whitney :
Eli Whitney was the inventor of the cotton gin and a pioneer in the mass production of cotton.
Whitney was born in Westboro , Massachusetts., on Dec. 8, 1765, and died on Jan. 8, 1825. He
graduated from Yale College in 1792. By April 1793, Whitney had designed and constructed the
cotton gin, a machine that automated the separation of cottonseed from the short staple cotton fiber.
Eli Whitney s machine could produce up to 23 kg (50 lb) of cleaned cotton daily, making southern
cotton a profitable crop for the first time, but Whitney failed to profit from his invention, imitations
of his machine appeared, and his 1794 invention was not upheld until 1807.

Background on the Cotton Gin
The cotton gin is a device for removing the seeds from cotton fiber. Simple devices for that
purpose have been around for centuries, an East Indian machine called a charka was used to
separate the seeds from the lint when the fiber was pulled through a set of rollers. The charka was
designed to work with long staple cotton, but American cotton is short staple cotton. The cottonseed
in Colonial America was removed by hand, usually the work of slaves.
Eli Whitney s machine was the first to clean short staple cotton. His cotton engine consisted of
spiked teeth mounted on a boxed revolving cylinder which, when turned by a crank, pulled the
cotton fiber through small slotted openings so as to separate the seeds from the lint a rotating
brush, operated via a belt and pulleys, removed the fibrous lint from the projecting spikes.
The gins later became horse drawn and water powered gins and cotton production increased, along
with lowered costs. Cotton soon became the number one selling textile.
After the invention of the cotton gin, the yield of raw cotton doubled each decade after 1800.
Demand was fueled by other inventions of the Industrial Revolution, such as the machines to spin
and weave it and the steamboat to transport it. By mid century America was growing three quarters
of the world s supply of cotton, most

with comments about what was important to me, is get rid of all those old lady curtains Ann has
having in every widow. I don t want any curtains anywhere, I want to keep the space light and
airy. Nonetheless, we will need some kind of window covering on the terrazzo door to shield us
from the sun in the summer. I bet it gets hot in that living room on a sunny day.

Essay On Denmark Vs America
A country s success revolves around its government. If a dictator rules a country, usually the
people are impoverished, hungry and/or unaware of what s happening in the world. For
example, a dictator otherwise known as Kim Jong Un is ruling North Korea right now. Kim Jong
Un is lying to his people and taking all their money (Conservapedia). On the other hand, if the
government of a country is too liberal and has barely any rules then there will be chaos. But, if a
group of leaders that the people can vote for, governs a country and that country has a constitution,
people are happier. The happiest country in the world is considered to be Denmark because of their
government. Denmark differs from America in a few main ways, especially their government and
their general attitudes.
Denmark s and the United States governments are ordered and organized in different ways that have
some similarities. Denmark is a monarchy with a constitution, whereas the United States is a
constitutional democracy. They both have a constitution, but Queen Margrethe II and parliament
rule Denmark and they share control over the legislative authority, but executive power rests with
the Prime Minister, Lars LГёkke Rasmussen (CultureGrams). In the United States, legislative power
rests with Congress while President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, and the Cabinet have
executive power (House.gov). The queen or king ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Does Jean Jacques Rousseau Influence On Childhood
Jean Jacques Rousseau was a philosopher in the 18th century who studied the way children interact
with each other in a playful setting. His theories concerning childhood development have impacted
many progressive educational theories still in use today. However, his work is not supported by
the popular childhood theories of the present age; for example, Rousseau speaks out against
imaginative play in his work Emile, which is currently considered to be a historical milestone in
early and middle childhood research. Rousseau believed that imaginative play would set children on
the road to unhappiness and dissatisfaction throughout life. Though Rousseau s ideas may be
factually inaccurate, his views that are presented in Emile still impacts childhood... Show more

Many childhood theorists have delineated the importance of childhood imaginative play as it
encourages children to differentiate between the world in their heads and the world outside
(Shuffelton, 2012, p. 314). Child theorist Amy Shuffelton (2012) commented on the importance of
imaginative play by stating: Also, children use imaginative play as a means to gain the emotional
competence to handle the various hurdles life places in their paths. In happier situations, children
play out interpersonal conflicts and thereby become able to resolve the real ones; in horrific
situations, children have used imaginative play as a means to cope with the terrors around them. (p.
314) Imaginative play encourages children to think outside of the box and broadens their
understanding of the world around them. Current research suggests that children who consistently
use their imaginations and can differentiate between real and make believe actually end up with
higher achievements later in life (Shuffelton, 2012). Imaginative play can have a long lasting effect
on the way a child develops and should be taken into account by both parents and educators.

The Era Of The Safavid Empire Under The Rule Of Shah Ismail
As a political tactic, rulers often portray themselves in a certain way in order to stabilize their
reign and rule more effectively. Some take the approach of uniqueness by setting themselves
apart from their subject population while others take the approach of sameness by emphasizing
the similarities in which they share with the people. Not exclusively limited to apartness or
sameness, some rulers have shown to employ a mix of both ruling styles. It is these versatile
rulers who have experienced more successes in their reign because they are not compelled to
only one ruling style, allowing them to better adapt to the needs of their ruling population. The
apartness ruling style is best seen in the Safavid Empire under the rule of Shah Ismail. Shah
Ismail uses religion as a political tool to control his state and does so by declaring Shi ism, a
smaller branch of Islam, as the state religion (#). After separating himself his people from those
who are not willing to abide to his ideologies, Shah Ismail can now demand the absolute loyalties
from his subjects and persecute those who are deviant. This radical act further creates a deep
chasm between Shi ite Muslims and nearby Sunni Muslims neighbors. As a result, cultural flow and
the exchange of beliefs between Sunni Shi ite states are essentially hindered. Ismail s apartness
ruling approach is taken to the extreme with social, religious, and legal systems being strictly
confined to Shi ite doctrines (@). It is noted that

Hunter-Gatherers In Ancient Civilization
Approximately 2.5 million years ago humans lived as hunter gatherers that would move in bands,
later on, they would turn into the great civilization of the ancient world due to better technique and
a more organized society. Starting from the neolithic age which consists of hunter gatherers. There
were basically early modern humans. Hunter gatherers had populated a lot of the earth by 30,000
years ago, continued the hunter and gathering way of life. They would feed off of wild plants and
animals and move from one location to another. They would also use the fur of their killings as
clothes. In a huntingand gatherings economy, they would move from one location to another to
secure their food supply. Hunter gatherers were very self sufficient.
The change comes from around 10,000 years ago when people first discover how to cultivate
crops and domesticate animals. This meant they could stay in sedentary areas. This lead to a more
efficient living. Hunter gatherers were no longer nomads and soon would become pastoral nomads
since they stayed in permanent areas. The areas they settled around was near rivers since they

Example Of Flexible Work Schedules
Flexible Work Schedule The beginning of work life started at the break of dawn. Most workers
were bound to their work for as long as daylight was available (Chung). During the Industrial
Revolution employees worked in factories on an assembly line(Chung). Workers clocked in at
the same time, took lunch at the same time, and clocked out at the same time (Chung). They
worked as if they were part of the machine (Chung). In modern times employee s work within
office buildings similar to assembly line workers they have a fixed schedule and work towards
the ultimate goal of the organization (Chung). In modern days corporations are considering the
benefits of a flexible work schedule because it can contribute to a successful work life balance by
enriching families, improving an employee s health and improving production. Modern technology
such as cell phones, tablets, and computers permits a more flexible work schedule because it
allows employees to stay connected to the office even if they are miles away (Chung).
Alternative work schedule are schedules does not fit the 8 hr day, 40 hr week definition (Baltes et
al. 496). Some examples of common alternative work schedules include flexible working hours,
compressed work weeks, part time, and telecommuting (Baltes et al. 496). Alternative work
schedules, such as flextime and compressed work weeks, have been adopted by many
organizations over the past several decades (Baltes et al. 496). A recent report that surveyed 1,035

Nafta Tariff Barriers
In poster #1 you can see that with tariffs down means trade will increase. This is represented by
the words tariff and trade. The word tariff is written in red to signify a negative connotation, it
also has an arrow pointing down meaning that the tariffs are lowering. The word trade is in
green for a positive connotation and has an arrow pointing up to mean that trade is increasing
because of the lowered tariffs. An increase in trade is what stimulates countries benefitting off
comparative advantages. This increase in trade has had many benefits for all countries
involved. With an increase in trade the price of goods in America decreases, making it easier for
low income households to afford the products they need. Not only are the prices lower but with
the rise in competition the quality of the goods and services are increased as well. This is
demonstrated in poster #2, which says that low prices means happy consumers. The meaning of
the poster is that because of lower prices more consumers can lead happier lives. NAFTA is not

country s resources to do one thing instead of another. Which means the country can make more of
that good/service than other countries while using less resources. Therefore when a country has a

tried to get her attention. Some men would bring her beautiful bouquets of roses just to make a
good impression and try to earn her love. Belle personally wasn t looking for love or even
interested in starting a life in their small community. She had different aspirations, like leaving the

Textual Analysis Of Shrek
Animation has, in the past, generally been viewed by children, because of its childlike nature. In
recent years, animated film has broaden its audience with its caricaturized humor towards adults.
With its powerful, heart rendering, and emotive storyline, I believe that the animated film Shrek,
has captured many of its viewers hearts; and also prompted many concepts after it has been
viewed, for example that love is for anyone. Sound, editing, and setting, are some of the filmic
elements that really helped in establishing the plausibility of the story of animated filmShrek. Love,
friendship, and happiness is repeated throughout the film, to ensure that viewers recognize it as
being the theme of the story.
The movie Shrek has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An indirect subjective point of view, does not provide a participant s point of view, but bring the
viewers close to the action so that they feel intimately involved. In the film, most of the shots are or
have an objective point of view and indirect subjective, and they continuously interchange between
each other.
There are many factors that work together to create rhythm: physical objects moving on the screen,
the movement of the camera, the musical score, the pace of dialogue, and the pace of the plot.
Most of the factors in the film Shrek are moderately fast in tempo, making the films rhythm range
from medium speed to fast. And because the tempo is the way it is, it gives viewers some time to
process the shots, understand the emotions of the characters, and the comedy that continues to be
thrown in.
A montage is a series of images and sounds, and Shrek there are many that can be found, for
example when Shrek and Donkey were on there way to rescue Fiona from the dragon, and in the
beginning, where Shrek is doing his daily

Notes On Bond And Bond Rating
Introduction to bond and bond ratings A bond is a form of debt in which you loan your money to a
company, city, or government and in return they agree to return the money to you after an agreed
upon time, with payments of interest to you while they hold your money (Wall Street Journal,
2015). There are many different kinds of bonds, and they are sold to fund various different
projects. Bonds are seen as a safe investment and also offer investors a steady stream of income
from the interest payments. Although this may be the case for some bonds, it isn t the case for all
bonds that are issued. This is where the bondratings system comes into play. Bond rating is a
system used to provide investors with an idea of the risk they are taking... Show more content on

The ratings for bonds are provided by three major rating agencies: Standard Poor s Corporation,
Moody s Investors Services and Fitch s Investor Services (Brigham Houston). Each use quantitative
and qualitative information to ensure that an accurate rating has been provided to investors.
Factors that determine bond ratings When a rating agency examines a firm s bonds, they must look
at various different factors that will help to paint a much larger picture of the financial health of the
firm. An agency will use quantitative factors to look at the history of the firm and while using
qualitative factors to look to the future stability of a firm and its ability to follow through on its
contractual obligations to bond holders (Brigham Houston, 2013) The quantitative factors an
analyst would use include ratios that evaluate the company s ability to payout what s owed to
bondholders. These ratios include the total debt to total capital ratio, which verifies the amount of
capital provided by debt holders, and the times interest earned ratio, which evaluates a company s
ability to pay out interest owed to bondholders (Brigham Houston, 2013). This information can then
be used to help create forecasted financial statements, which shed light on the ability to not only
meet current liabilities, but to continue to meet them for years to come. The qualitative factors are
based on the quality of the firm, the product, and the leadership. This can include

The Plan For Eden Bay
When I was first approached to research possible systems for the fleet, I knew it was going to be
a massive under taking. I had no guide, just a few questions from Dawn about how the
recommended system would address certain issues. There were countless hours of research
looking at each possible program, weighting the pros and cons of each, and then final reaching a
conclusion to which system to recommend for Eden Bay. Each of the fleet repair systems are
good, solid programs, however there is only one which I believe would suit the needs of Eden
Bay. I found a few different options at beginning of my research and I slowly began to review
each product. Several of the systems were thrown out early on, some because the cost was of the
program was running too high, or I thought the system was not user friendly, or even because I
thought product just would not benefit Eden Bay in the long term. While I liked many of the
systems, it ultimately came down to three programs: The Fleet MaintenancePro by Innovative
Maintenance Systems, the Desktop Enterprise Edition by Manager Plus or Merchants Fleet
Program. When it came time to make my decision, the Fleet Maintience Pro stood out above the
rest.
My first step was to do a general search online of fleet software to see what I could discover. After
the search, I narrowed it down to six systems to investigate. Using the main search results, I then
did a cusitorty look around the websites for each of the six main software programs.

Essay Comparing Dostoevsky s Crime And Punishment
People often judge others based on physical appearances, such as what they wear or their
hairstyle. The style and condition of a person s home and room can also reveal their character, as
homes are the place where they spend most of their time. In Fyodor Dostoevsky s novel titled
Crime and Punishment, the author includes descriptions of rooms to influence the reader s
interpretation of the characters. Specifically, by describing the furnishing and size of the rooms of
Rodion Romanovich Raskolnikov, the protagonist, Sonya Marmeladov, the prostitute, Alyona
Ivanovna, the pawnbroker, and Porfiry Petrovitch, the police inspector, Dostoevsky reveals the
wealth, social status, and personality of each of the characters. In Crime and Punishment by
Fyodor Dostoevsky, the novelist uses symbols, connotations, and metaphor to describe the rooms
associated with characters to reveal the wealth, social status, and personalities of the characters.

instability is revealed through the symbol of paint. Likewise, the lack of furniture in Sonya s room
reveals her impoverished life, while the metaphor of the barn as her room reveals her low status in
society. Porfiry s chamber suggests that he is wealthy, and through his interrogation of Raskolnikov,
he demonstrates his confidence. Finally, Alyona s room reveals her greedy nature as she is
reluctant to share her wealth with others. Through examining furniture, the size, and interactions
with rooms, one is able to learn more about the characters, including their livelihood and

How Did Napoleon Modernize Ground Warfare
Student Name: Brandon Goldstein Person of Eminence: Napoleon Bonaparte 1. What is your
research question for this project? How did Napoleon modernize ground warfare? 2. Describe
your research to date on your topic. This topic can only be analyzed by examining Napoleon in
action, so I assessed reports and depictions of Napoleon s actions on the battlefield from battles
such as Toulon, The Battle of the Pyramids, Leipzig, Borodino, and Austerlitz. I also examined
comparisons of his tactics to previous tactics to deduce why Napoleon was so successful on the
battlefield, despite sometimes being at a numerical disadvantage. Finally, I studied a biography,
Napoleon in Egypt, to take an even closer look into his thinking and tactical genius. 3. What were

Yes, I am including generals such as Alexander the Great, the Duke of Wellington, Ulysses S.
Grant, Dwight D. Eisenhower, George S. Patton, and Erwin Rommel. He had a theory that wars
could be won in one battle with a decisive blow and, of course, the complete annihilation of the
enemy army. His army did not have supply lines; instead they lived off the land so that they
could maximize their pace. Napoleon s cavalry was used to scout ahead of the real army so that
Napoleon could know exactly where his enemy was. Napoleon also divided his army into corps
that were never more than 24 hours apart so that they could assist each other if necessary. Napoleon
devised tactics so that he could win any battle, despite his numerical disadvantage. Finally,
Napoleon did not command everything on the battlefield; he delegated to competent subordinates
who were able to make their own decisions, which helped with his army s

  • 2. Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis TertiusBy Jorge Luis Borges Ana Bahena English 102D Izenberg November 2, 2017 Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius Jorge Luis Borges is widely known for his bizarre short stories that question all aspects of life and our world. Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius is no different putting into question everything we believe to be true. Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius is a narrative account of an individual who has discovered the fictional land of Uqbar in one of the version of an encyclopedia. Throughout the story, the man keeps investigating more on this place and finds that its importance comes from Tlon, one of the subdivisions of Uqbar, and its literature. No matter how many variations of Uqbar (Ukbar, Ucbar, Ookbar, Oukbahr) he searches for, he cannot seem to find this place. In order to appease the narrator, Casares tells him that [Uqbar] was a region in Iraq or Asia Minor (Borges 68). Casares uses words and places that the narrator knows and connects with so that the narrator can place this fictional world within the real world. Although completely doubtful of his friend, the narrator consults the atlases of Justus Perthes just to make sure that Uqbar is not real, as he believes it to be. This part in the short story, although minute, is crucial because it causes tension between that the narrator believes to be real and that which he doubts to be real. In this same manner, the text itself is causing tension between what the reader knows to be real and what is fiction. The reader assumes that what he/she is reading is fiction, but this comes in conflict with the constant use of real works and people such as the Encyclopedia Britannica, the N.R.F, Bioy Casares, Justus Perthes, and many others. The specificity of terms and names of real authors and theorists that are fused into the work bring an apparent legitimacy to what is read. Yet, as the reader continues, the story becomes seemingly false. The reader s experience is mirrored in the text as the narrator goes through a similar development of realization regarding the encyclopedia entry on Uqbar. As ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At the same time, he endowed it into relatively complete theoretical connotations (Alexis de Tocqueville, 1988). Firstly, it emphasizes the ultimate purpose is for individual interests. Society is just a tool that serves people. Secondly, it stresses on individual freedom and democracy. Thirdly, it points out from personal view the rightness of privatization of property. American historian Commager thought that individualism eventually became the synonym of Americanism (1988). • 7. The Canadian Criminal Justice System It is believed that while all human kind may have had common beginnings in the millennia past, the course of human history prevents all races from reverting back to that common kind. It is further believed that the racism that subsists in today s society does not exist in the same manner within Canada. While Canadais an egalitarian society, a close examination would suggest that the blunt historical and social truths of racism that are often smugly denied exist very much in Canadian society and have seeped into the Canadian criminal justicesystem. The racialization of crime, discriminatory policing, minority overrepresentation in prison populations and a blatant denial of justice are aspects of the system that taint much of its past and create a worried present. This paper argues against the prevalent Canadian defence of egalitarianism by establishing the presence of systemic discrimination within the Canadian criminal justice system. Whether it is through print or through television screens, the press is the today s public s sole source of news; especially news about crime and the courts. The tendency of the press to focus on crimes committed by minorities majorly influences the justice system s reaction to minority offenders. A minority criminal is never given the racial anonymity that a non minority criminal enjoys. • 10. Jimmy Valentine From A Retrieved Reformation Why Jimmy Valentine from A Retrieved Reformation is a Good Character I argue that Jimmy Valentine from A Retrieved Reformation is a good character. He is a good character for the following reasons. Firstly, Jimmy gives money to a blind man. Secondly, Jimmy frees a little girl from a safe. Finally, Ben Price does not prosecute Jimmy. Overall, Jimmy from A Retrieved Reformation is anything but a villain. Jimmy gives money to a blind man. In the text, it states, He gave some money to a blind man who sat there, asking for money, and then he got on the train (Porter, 2). Rather than keeping this money, Jimmy gives it to a poor, blind man. This blind man will likely never give anything back to Jimmy, yet Jimmy gives him some of his money anyway. Because of this second kind act, Jimmy shows that he truly is good. If I were in that situation and I were freed from jail for the first time in years, I would (unfortunately) not give any of my money to the blind man. • 14. Seeing With The Eyes Or The Brain Seeing with the eyes or the brain: What goes wrong in common eye conditions? There are many parts of the eye which work in unison in order to detect certain stimuli. For example, the photoreceptors are split into two categories; the rods and the cones (named due to the shape of the cell). In the retina there are 120 million rods that help your eyes to adjust to dimly lit images or, in other words, allow you to see better in dark places. They are also highly sensitive in comparison to cones and have a slow recovery from working in such conditions. In contrast, the cones are located in the fovea and, although there are less cones than rods (only 6 million), they take up the majority of the central fovea. The cones detect a very different stimulus to the rods as their primary function is to detect different colours in the images observed by the eyes. It does this by using a protein named photopsin whereas the rods use rhodopsin. The cones also are also a lot less sensitive than the rods and have a shorter integration time (faster recovery from conditions in which they are needed to work). Another main part of the eye which helps us to detect stimuli is the lens. The main function of the lens is to focus light onto the retina so that it can send electrical impulses to the brain and it can make sense of what it is seeing. Moreover, the pupil and the cornea both work together to allow the light to enter the eye whereas the iris controls how much light enters the eye by changes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mill found value in the consequentialist motives of an instrumental utilitarianistic will; Socrates emphasized the refinement of virtues in the proceeding actions of good men. Immanuel Kant took a differing approach to this, boldly stating that a good will is the only thing with full value in itself (394); making the claim that the source of value lies solely within the motive of the action itself. Kant does not emphasize the creation of happiness as the goal of one s choices, since happiness is a subjective marker open to corruption (396). Multiple actions can produce this result, while the same action can differ in its consequences. This uncertainty necessitates a different, more concrete definition of moral value. Whenever individuals talk about trains, a few ideas pop into one s mind. Due to the positioning of the semiconducting magnets and creation of the different electromagnetic forces, the like pole tend to push while the unlike poles attract, therefore, causing motion in the direction dictated by the alternating current (Funk and Getsla, 2006). Adoption of this technology in the United States of America would change the railway transportation system forever. Firstly, the Maglev trains do not produce any noise. This is because the technology does not incorporate wheels, bearings, axles and the metallic railway track (Livingston, 2011). The train is propelled by and kept on the guide way by the well coordinated magnetic forces acting within the semiconducting magnet and the coils. This means that the noise pollution caused by trains as they move from town to town would be eliminated (McMahon and Mora, 2010). Secondly, this technology does not cause any friction between the train and the track, therefore, allowing for smooth rides. As the train floats on the track, the friction and the unevenness of the conventional track are eliminated (Shadbolt, 2013).. This facilitates individuals to carry out various activities such as reading and working in a comfortable manner compared to the conventional trains. It is played with a small rubber ball, a long stick with a sort of basket at the end, and padding (it is a contact sport). The objective of the game is to shoot the ball into the other team s goal, using the stick to pass, cradle and shoot. At first, the game was played on a distance of even several miles, and anywhere between 100 and 100000 players in a single game. The teams are now composed of ten players each, 3 of them are offense, 3 defense, 3 midfielders, that can go anywhere on the field, and one goalie, which is the heart of the team. The phrase penned by John Dalberg, Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely, has become a clichГ© idiom thrown about when discussing power. Does it really though? Does power really corrupt every man it touches? Power is merely a tool, neither inherently good nor bad. Power, similar to magic , is subject to the one who wields it. If something wicked wields power, the power will lead to wicked things. However, power in the hands of good will lead to good things it is a reflection of the heart. In J.R.R. Similarly, in our world men are doomed to die without the salvation of Jesus, for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, and they are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. (Romans 3:23 24) This is why men in Tolkien s books have such a hard time handling power. For example the nine mortal men give in to the temptation to abuse their power and consequently they turn into wraiths, undying slaves of Sauron. Man s heart is corrupt in Middle Earth same as it is corrupt in our world, and this is why it appears that power always corrupts when it is really just the corruption of man brought to light by the influence of power. Whitney was born in Westboro , Massachusetts., on Dec. 8, 1765, and died on Jan. 8, 1825. He graduated from Yale College in 1792. By April 1793, Whitney had designed and constructed the cotton gin, a machine that automated the separation of cottonseed from the short staple cotton fiber. Eli Whitney s machine could produce up to 23 kg (50 lb) of cleaned cotton daily, making southern cotton a profitable crop for the first time, but Whitney failed to profit from his invention, imitations of his machine appeared, and his 1794 invention was not upheld until 1807. Background on the Cotton Gin The cotton gin is a device for removing the seeds from cotton fiber. Simple devices for that purpose have been around for centuries, an East Indian machine called a charka was used to separate the seeds from the lint when the fiber was pulled through a set of rollers. The charka was designed to work with long staple cotton, but American cotton is short staple cotton. The cottonseed in Colonial America was removed by hand, usually the work of slaves. Eli Whitney s machine was the first to clean short staple cotton. His cotton engine consisted of spiked teeth mounted on a boxed revolving cylinder which, when turned by a crank, pulled the cotton fiber through small slotted openings so as to separate the seeds from the lint a rotating brush, operated via a belt and pulleys, removed the fibrous lint from the projecting spikes. The gins later became horse drawn and water powered gins and cotton production increased, along with lowered costs. Cotton soon became the number one selling textile. After the invention of the cotton gin, the yield of raw cotton doubled each decade after 1800. Once we were safely on the E45 pointed in the right direction to Orvieto, Vince spoke first. I m going to ask Johannes if we can see the apartmentagain before we fly homeso I can to take room and window measurements. Honey, what a great idea, oh, I can t wait to decorate, I said with great enthusiasm. I know that I won t be able to sleep tonight. I just love the kitchen. I can t believe that we have granite counters and beautiful wooden cabinetry. Before we go home, we must open a bank account in Marsciano, Vince replied, without reacting to my comment. I hope that Johannes can help us with that. I think that we have to give him a deposit tomorrow. The first thing I am going to do I continued with comments about what was important to me, is get rid of all those old lady curtains Ann has having in every widow. I don t want any curtains anywhere, I want to keep the space light and airy. Nonetheless, we will need some kind of window covering on the terrazzo door to shield us from the sun in the summer. I bet it gets hot in that living room on a sunny day. Before heading back to Orvieto, we decided to drive through Marsciano to familiarize ourselves with the city center. • 31. Essay On Denmark Vs America A country s success revolves around its government. If a dictator rules a country, usually the people are impoverished, hungry and/or unaware of what s happening in the world. For example, a dictator otherwise known as Kim Jong Un is ruling North Korea right now. Kim Jong Un is lying to his people and taking all their money (Conservapedia). On the other hand, if the government of a country is too liberal and has barely any rules then there will be chaos. But, if a group of leaders that the people can vote for, governs a country and that country has a constitution, people are happier. The happiest country in the world is considered to be Denmark because of their government. Denmark differs from America in a few main ways, especially their government and their general attitudes. Denmark s and the United States governments are ordered and organized in different ways that have some similarities. Denmark is a monarchy with a constitution, whereas the United States is a constitutional democracy. They both have a constitution, but Queen Margrethe II and parliament rule Denmark and they share control over the legislative authority, but executive power rests with the Prime Minister, Lars LГёkke Rasmussen (CultureGrams). In the United States, legislative power rests with Congress while President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, and the Cabinet have executive power (House.gov). The queen or king ... His theories concerning childhood development have impacted many progressive educational theories still in use today. However, his work is not supported by the popular childhood theories of the present age; for example, Rousseau speaks out against imaginative play in his work Emile, which is currently considered to be a historical milestone in early and middle childhood research. Rousseau believed that imaginative play would set children on the road to unhappiness and dissatisfaction throughout life. Many childhood theorists have delineated the importance of childhood imaginative play as it encourages children to differentiate between the world in their heads and the world outside (Shuffelton, 2012, p. 314). Child theorist Amy Shuffelton (2012) commented on the importance of imaginative play by stating: Also, children use imaginative play as a means to gain the emotional competence to handle the various hurdles life places in their paths. In happier situations, children play out interpersonal conflicts and thereby become able to resolve the real ones; in horrific situations, children have used imaginative play as a means to cope with the terrors around them. (p. 314) Imaginative play encourages children to think outside of the box and broadens their understanding of the world around them. Current research suggests that children who consistently use their imaginations and can differentiate between real and make believe actually end up with higher achievements later in life (Shuffelton, 2012). • 36. The Era Of The Safavid Empire Under The Rule Of Shah Ismail As a political tactic, rulers often portray themselves in a certain way in order to stabilize their reign and rule more effectively. Some take the approach of uniqueness by setting themselves apart from their subject population while others take the approach of sameness by emphasizing the similarities in which they share with the people. Not exclusively limited to apartness or sameness, some rulers have shown to employ a mix of both ruling styles. It is these versatile rulers who have experienced more successes in their reign because they are not compelled to only one ruling style, allowing them to better adapt to the needs of their ruling population. The apartness ruling style is best seen in the Safavid Empire under the rule of Shah Ismail. Shah Ismail uses religion as a political tool to control his state and does so by declaring Shi ism, a smaller branch of Islam, as the state religion (#). After separating himself his people from those who are not willing to abide to his ideologies, Shah Ismail can now demand the absolute loyalties from his subjects and persecute those who are deviant. This radical act further creates a deep chasm between Shi ite Muslims and nearby Sunni Muslims neighbors. As a result, cultural flow and the exchange of beliefs between Sunni Shi ite states are essentially hindered.
