An Overview of Target Costing
1
AN OVERVIEW OF TARGET COSTING
Introduction
Many managers often underestimate the power of target costing as a serious competitive tool.
When general managers read the word costing , they naturally assume it is a topic for their finance
or accounting staff. They miss the fact that target costing is really a systematic profit and cost
management process.
What Is Target Costing?
CAM I defines target costing as the maximum amount of cost that can be incurred on a product and
still earn the required profit margin from that product. This is captured by the equation
Target Cost = Price Profit
At first sight the equation appears to reverse the familiar cost plus price equal profit that many
firms use. However, behind the inversion of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Together the two variables determine a market price for the product.
Setting prices for new models of existing products, such as this year s model of a video cassette
recorder (VCR), starts with the current prices. These prices are adjusted for the features added
or dropped. For example, assume we add to the new VCR the ability to view tapes in different
formats (NTSC, PAL and SECAM). Also assume that we delete an FM radio which was on the
previous model since it is not popular. The revised price may be set by taking the current price,
adding the price that customers are willing to pay for the multiple format feature and deleting from
this price the value customers place on the radio.
Setting prices for new products is not easy since there is no existing base to start from. Market
research becomes crucial for this type of product. Fanack, a Japanese company, uses a simple
formula that sets the price at a level that gives them a five year lead over their competitors.
Another technique is to use the prices for substitute products to develop an initial prices. For
example, fiber optic cable prices may form the basis for pricing satellite based communication links.

The profit target, the second variable in the target costing equation, is set relative to the financial
rate of return that a firm needs to stay viable in its industry. Since return on sales is part of the
return on investment formula, firms often use

A Separate Peace Vs Dead Poets Society
After reading the novel A Separate Peace and watching the movie Dead Poets Society, many
similarities and differences are brought into view. Some similarities between the two are that in
both stories the boys are affected by a classmate s death, the boys are in secret societies, and the
boys decisions are made because of the influences of outside pressures. The differences between A
Separate Peaceand Dead Poets Society are the relations within the stories, the time periods the
stories are set in, and the situations the boys are put in throughout the story. The book A Separate

The outside pressures were the main reasons the boys acted out the way they did. An example is
in Dead Poets Society, Neil had wanted to take an easier class at the beginning of the school
year, but his father had rejected the idea. When Neil s father also did this with his want to
become an actor, it resulted in Neil taking his own life. The boys in Dead Poets Society were
forced to do whatever their parents wanted them to do. The pressures in A Separate Peace are
different, but they are still pressures that impact the way these boys act and think. One very
important pressure in the novel A Separate Peace is the war. The war played such a crucial event
throughout the story because it was the main reason they were all fidgety and worried at times,
they never wanted to be drafted into the war. Even though they knew they did not want to be in
the war, they would go in a patriotic way if they had to. This also lead to another problem with
outside pressure. Finny was not physically able to be drafted into any force, whether it be
American or not. In the novel A Separate Peace, Finny states on page 190, They all gave me the
same answer after they saw the medical report on me. The answer was no soap. We can t use you
. This was all because of his disability with the broken leg, Finny s own leg was the issue. This
caused him to be pressured because he could not do the right, patriotic thing

Enterprise Architecture Enables Processes Paper
Introduction Enterprise Architecture is defined as the representation of all the components,
processes and policies of an organization. Architecture is the process of moving a business vision
and strategy into effective change, communicating the current capabilities and rethinking the
principles and models that describe the future state of the company and facilitate their evolution
(Fui Hoon, Lee Shang, and Kuang, 2001).
Enterprise Architecture is a strategic practice, which connects the relationship between business
initiatives that leverage technology, to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses, and develop

The organization can identify methods that need to be change or improved. In addition, the
architecture allows the organizations to recognize current and future objectives
(Schekkerman,2003). The concept development phase begins the life cycle when a need is
identified and requires developing a system or change a legacy system identified. During this phase,
the need is identified it is documented then a feasibility study is conducted. The approach selected
should be approved and also funds to be used in the planning phase. The EA enhances and allows
the concept development phase. It has an adaptable documentation option that can be used to
document the discover needs. The planning phase starts after identifying the project and allocating
resources to the project, and then a project plan is created. The plan records the process that will be
used to solve the problem. The plan states the process and resources to be used in the project. The
requirement definition phase permits organizations to set and define the functional user
requirements for a project. The functional user requirements are stated in the functional
requirements document. The requirements are grouped in categories such as data, system
performance and security. The requirements are also assemble in terms of maintainability and
support. The managers determine whether the requirements offer the right basis to design the
system. In this phase managers also

Characteristics Of Anglo Saxon Heroic Period
The Heroic Era
The Anglo Saxon Period
Old English
In every era, of course there are certain areas that defines the way of living of people on their
specific time period. Some of these are the style of government, the roles of each gender, the
conduct of people, military, language, social and/or economic hierarchy, and more. The Anglo
Saxon Era is no exception. In the Anglo Saxon Period, the most distinguishing areas would be the
Style of Government, the Roles of Men and Women and the Language that they use.
The Anglo Saxon, these are Germans who went to Britain after the fall of the Roman Empire. They
became the masters of the land and the had kept the legacy of the Romans. They brought
Christianity to Britain that most natives refuse to believe in but eventually converted to be
Christians.
Before the Germans invaded England, the native people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Living in this era is the total opposite of the way of living today. In those times, the perspective of
being famous or good is quite different but they would meet up in one specific area, being
generous. The differences would be that you should be able to conquer and defeat certain things or
people that endangers the safety of your tribe. In this time, bravery, truth, honor, loyalty and duty,
hospitality and perseverance are some of the Anglo Saxon values. Anglo Saxon, as illustrated by the
literary text named Beowulf, the times were barbaric and would require the use of weapons in
order to bravely defend the land. in this time, the concept of hero is basically what most of the
people wanted to be. They follow the Heroic Code that is consisted of what traits should people
have in order to be perceived as a hero. Unlike today, in order for you to be recognized you should
have the good attitude that everyone would like and the

Definition Of Professionalism
Professionalism can be defined as the skills expected from someone that was trained to perform
a certain job or duty. Personally, I agree with this simple description, but at the same time I
believe that professionalism is a much more complex characteristic. There is a difference
between being a professional and be professional. Nowadays, most of us, students, are looking
forward to obtain a degree in order to be qualified for a certain type of job. In other words, the
main goal of students is to become professionals in a particular area. Become a professional it is
not only related to college and the learning process, it is related to the development and
improvement of one s abilities. For instance, when applying the learned skills in... Show more

However, the way in that a person is able to implement those skills is what I consider
professionalism. It is not only about the abilities or knowledge that a person might have, but
rather about the behavior and the values behind those abilities. Professionalism is a
characteristic that needs to be earned, practiced and improved every day. There are many factors
that need to be taken in consideration when defining professionalism. For example, someone
might be an expert in nursing sciences, but could also steal or misuse drugs from a hospital, or
not provide an empathetic care for its patient. Being professional involves successfully executing
those skills and abilities learned, but always in an honest and acknowledgeable way.
Professionalism means to show a positive and leading conduct, avoid mistakes, solve difficulties,
be responsible and to follow the rules. Also, it is important to make a division between the
professional and the personal setting. For instance, a person shouldn t do things in order to obtain
a personal benefit, such as hiring a close member of the family if that person is not qualified for the

To Build The Wall
To Build Or Not To Build The Wall. My opinion is that we should build a wall, what is yours?
The reason I am in favor of the wall is because 12 million immigrants cross the border every year
illegally. Doesn t the wall mean that we will start a bad relationship with Mexico? No, they
should realize that there people are just pouring in America so a wall means that we would have
an extra line of defense. In a year 12 million illegal immigrants would come here from Mexico and
they could be brining guns/ drugs. Do you really wantthat in America. We should build the wall
because the positives out way the negatives. We will be stopping drugs and guns if we put up that
wall. The illegal immigrants could be caring drugs when the cross the border.... Show more content

My first reason is that a presidential candidate wants the wall to go up. I quote that I chose is, I
ve been leading the fight in the Senate to triple the Border Patrol, to put in place fencings and
walls, to put in place a strong biometric exit/entry system (Ted Cruz). If you are a person running
for president, you don t want to do and say stupid stuff. Having said Ted still said that he would
be in favor of the wall because he realizes that these illegal immigrants need to be stopped and
have them come over legally. My second reason is governors are also in favor of the wall. The
quote I chose is, As noted in Immigration Wars, fencing is a component of border security. When
combined with surveillance technology and agents to detect and respond to crossings, fencing or
other barriers can serve several purposes, including: (1) deterring illegal entries by making it
more difficult to cross the border, (2) facilitating enforcement by increasing the time available to
respond and apprehend people, and (3) steering dangerous criminals and traffickers away from
populated areas, improving public safety. Sufficient funding should be provided to maintain,
improve, and expand fences where appropriate (e.g., based on the terrain along the border or the
proximity of populated areas) (Jeb Bush). What this is saying is that to actually really stop these
immigrants and dangerous criminals, we need something other than just the border patrol and that
something is the wall. It will only help America. Just because the media says its bad, is it really?
Do you always agree with stuff on TV and the

Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address Analysis
September, 2015 Did Lincoln s second inaugural address give proof that his religious faith is
what gave him justification to continue the Civil War? Though his second inaugural speech
was among the shortest in history, Lincoln spoke volumes within it. The Civil War was not an
easy one, and had an astounding amount of deaths, but despite the ups and downs, Lincoln
persisted relentlessly with the importance of seeing the war through to the end. It is within his
second inaugural speech that we can get a clear view into his psyche and understand a bit better
why he was so passionate. Towards the end, he states, Fondly do we hope, fervently do we pray,
that this mighty scourge of war may speedily pass away. Yet if God wills that it continue until all
the wealth piled by the bondsman s two hundred and fifty years of unrequited toil shall be sunk,
and until every drop of blood drawn with the lash shall be paid by another drawn with the sword,
as was said three thousand years ago, so still it must be said, that the judgements of the Lord... Show

Comparison Tom and Gatsby in The Great Gatsby
Tom Buchanan and Jay Gatsby... perfect foils?
By: Daniela Calderon
In The Great Gatsby, written by Scott Fitzgerald, Tom Buchanan and Jay Gatsby are two characters
that struggle with the idea of losing their shared love interest, Daisy. Tom and Gatsby s attachment
to Daisy is differently justified due to their contrasting views, personalities, attitudes, actions,
backgrounds, and other factors, some of which they do share and concur in. Fitzgerald did a great
thing here. He created two purposefully different characters one that is easily despised, the other
that although not perfect, is likable and united them in their love for money, the power that comes
with it , and their haunt for the ultimate prize Daisy. In this essay,... Show more content on

Not even the effeminate swank of his riding clothes could hide the enormous power of that
body...it was a body capable of enormous leverage...a cruel body. On the other hand, Gatsby
seems to be shy and reserved to the point where he is not even acknowledged at his own parties.
In my opinion, Gatsby did not do so well when attempting to pull off a defying front during his
confrontation with Tom. Tom also comes off as a racist bigot who fears that the Black race will
eventually submerge the White race, a sexist, and an abusive, insensitive, brute , like Daisy calls
him. Gatsby s open house parties which contain very colorful characters, on the other hand, seem
to show little prejudice or judgment in his persona. Gatsby s action of waiting outside the
Buchannan s home all night just to make sure Tom would not physically harm Daisy, show just
how sensitive Gatsby is to Daisy s well being. Tom seems to be very blunt and crude, while Gatsby
s distinguishing feature is the enigma that is his life. Jay Gatsby holds himself to high expectations
and lived his life chasing a single dream, while Tom Buchanan seems to have no direction, goals,
or dreams, other than to waste away his wealth, and please his selfish needs. In my opinion, the
fundamental difference between Tom and Gatsby is how Fitzgerald decided that justice would be
served to each concerning part. Tom is the definition of

Barbie Dolls Have Changed
How a childhood object has changed over time and how it is related to broader contexts.
In this essay I am going to be discussing and assessing how the Barbie Doll which is a toy for
children, mainly for girls has changed over the years since the 1900 s to the present generation and
how this relates to other larger contexts like class, gender, race, disability and faith. Below I have
inserted 2 pictures of the Barbie doll, One from 1959 and one from 2010, which is fairly recent.

Piaget has created the theory of learning through play. He says children engage themselves In
imaginative play which means that if they see a story or characters they are most likely to
imitate them and what they do. When children imitate others they develop a vocabulary which
allows them to name the world around them. This relates to dolls because if a child is given a
doll which moves and does things around a doll house like cleaning, a child will imitate that
around the house and act like a house wife like the doll. This shows that dolls are created in that
way to leave a image in the child s head on what a girl does when she grows up, likewise how the
dolls have changed, whilst children grow older they have certain changes in them

My Porch Description
There was a tiny home invader on my porch. I came home from school to find a very large and
intimidating spider spinning a web on the side of my porch. Naturally, I quickly ran inside, i was
about to get a tissue to deposit it far, far away, from anywhere near me, but I stopped. Why was
there a large spideron my porch? It was just sitting along the side of it, completely exposed. It was
probably a good place to catch flies since it was near the trash can, but it was left completely
exposed. The side of my back porch was right by the door to go inside, Wouldn t it build a web
somewhere safer? Why here? Curious, I went out to look again, staying well apart in case it tried
to jump. The web stood out, a gossamer orb against the pale yellow of my porch. In the center the
spider a she, I suppose rested.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are two elm trees growing in front of my house, giants. My house was built in 1871 and the

halfway done. In the morning, the early October chill pushed me to dash from the house and get
to school without stopping to philosophize about spiders. When I got home, again there was the
similar flash of fear and apprehension upon seeing her. She hadn t attempted to jump at me, or
even crawl closer, but she was still vaguely threatening. Inside the house, in spiderless comfort, I

grasshoppers. It made sense why she was near the trash can where flies

Rachel Cameron In Margaret Laurence s A Jest Of God
Generally, people have a team of peers, whether it be friends, colleagues, or family members that
help (or impede) them in their growth as a human being in society. This is no different for
Rachel Cameron, the principal character in Margaret Laurence s A Jest of God. Throughout the
text, Rachel has many people in her life that affect her in many ways. Three key people who alter
Rachel s character into the woman she becomes at the end of the book are her mother, Calla
Mackie, and Nick Kazlik. Each of them has their own unique effect on Rachel, some effects being
for the better, and others less so. First and foremost, the people who usually have the largest impact
on someone s life are their parents. In Rachel s case, within the confines of this text, that is just her
mother. Parents have such an immense influence on their children not only as they are growing up,
but also into adulthood. If one continues to live with their mother all the way into their thirties, as is
the case for Rachel, that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Arid Climate
The Arid climate has irregular seasons. Say for instance, the Sahara Desert is mainly always hot
and dry. However, some areas change in temperature depending on the latitude, and surrounding
climate. So the two main seasons, summer and winter.
Can range from as hot as 130 degrees, to as cool as negative 30 degrees. Also, latitude determines
what the temperature and seasons will be like.
Is the main factor that determines Arid climate. An area must receive less than 10 inches in a year
to be Arid. However. Some don t receive any rain.

Understanding the Global Warming Debate
Throughout history climates have drastically changed. There have been shifts from warm climates
to the Ice Ages (Cunningham Cunningham, 2009, p.204). Evidence suggests there have been at
least a dozen abrupt climate changes throughout the history of the earth. There are a few suspected
reasons for these past climate changes. One reason may be that asteroids hitting the earthand
volcanic eruptions caused some of them. A further assumption is that 22 year solar magnetic cycles
and 11 year sunspot cycles played a part in the changes. A further possibility is that a regular
shifting in the angle of the moon orbiting earth, with the ensuing changing tides and atmospheric
circulation, affects the global climate (Cunningham Cunningham,... Show more content on

Finally, they claim that ExxonMobile s relationships with government officials have made it
possible for them to block federal policies (Easton, 2009, p.155).
Next, is data showing that increasing greenhouse gases caused by human activities is causing
directly observed climate changes. The first resulting climate change discussed is warming global
surface temperature. There has been an increase in global surface temperature of 0.74 degrees C
since the late 19th century. In the last 50 years alone the temperature has increased by 0.13
degrees C per decade. North America and Eurasia have seen the largest increase in warmth
(Easterling Karl, 2011, para6). Further, the hottest years recorded since instrument recording of
temperatures became possible were from 1995 to 2006. Plus, new measurement analysis of the
lower and mid troposphere show comparable temperature rising rates as surface temperatures
(Alley et al., 2007, p.5). Also, in this past century the arctic temperature average has doubled in
comparison to the global temperature average (Alley et al., 2007, p.7). In addition, borehole
temperatures, snow cover, and glacier recession data all seem to agree with recent warming
(Easterling Karl, 2011, para11). Scientists are saying that the difference between the warming
period at the end of the Ice Age and the warming happening now is that the warming at the end of
the Ice Age was very gradual over a span of 5,000 years, but the warming now is

The Culture Of An Organization

Tyco International was nearly ruined because of the unethical corporate culture Kozlowski was
implementing. According to a study on leadership and organizational culture by T. Gilberson et al.,
the values within the organization can be linked to the personality characteristics of the CEO. It is
upper management that is believed to be the primary influence on the creation and development of
organizational culture.2
Kozlowski put policies in place to misappropriate the funds of the company, these policies directly
violated company culture. The other directors began to follow these policies even thought they
knew it went against company policy. Why? According to social cognitive theory, individuals are
proactively involved in their own development; What people think, believe, and feel affects how
they behave . 4 If we believe this statement to be true than why were the subordinates at Tyco
influenced by the leaders to engage in unethical corporate culture. We could consider D. Lease s
explanation that control through culture is so powerful that once these values are internalized; they
become part of the individual s values, and the individual follows organizational values without

Billy Elliot Film Analysis
Individuals venturing into new transitions could confront obstacles but may also gain significant
rewards. Barriers often obstruct the achievement of goals which bring about growth and change
within oneself and their surroundings. Billy Elliot is a film set in an English town of Evirngton,
England during the 1985 mining strikes. The film depicts a young boy facing the challenge of
overcoming traditional gender stereotypes to pursue his love for ballet. Billy faces extreme
adversity from his family and community that hold traditional values and beliefs. The process of
transitioning into a new phase of life may be confronting but ultimately lead to new understandings
of self and others. Stephen Aldry s Billy Elliot film epitomizes this idea as Billy tries to pursue his
passion for dancing in 1980 s England. The obstacles he faces throughout his transition shape his
journey throughout the text. Similarly, Clint Eastwoods novel American sniper explores how
transitions can shape an individual and their relationships with others around them, Where Kyle
returns from his first deployment and reunites with Taya Kyle. Taya immediately notices that her
husband has changed, war has made him moodier and angrier. Yet this transition is yet to be
complete.
Billy challenges society s expectations based on gender during this era, as he conflicts against
male stereotypes on gender roles and follows his passion for dance. Billy s transition is
represented through a series of visual and

My first experience with counselling was when I was roughly 17 years old. Back then I was a

who had gone mad . Overcoming these resistances I finally went ahead for counselling and to my

session might convey a very negative impression to the client for they may interpret it as my
disinterest. This issue has prompted me to go to personal therapy and also has increased the
relevance and importance of personal therapy in my eyes. Through this experience I have also
realised how unresolved issues in the past can impact the counselling process with or without you
being aware about them. There are many areas that I need to work on expect this and the major
among them is my competence as a counsellor, I still need to develop various professional skills
that I will be required to employ in the counselling session and that is something I believe I will
gain from my course. The most important thing that believe I need to work on are my own beliefs
about counselling, for a long time I didn t realise that despite being trained for becoming a
counsellor I never realised that even to me counselling seemed appropriate as the last option, a
choice you make when all else fails and also that with time things will eventually get better and
you don t need therapy to work through it. Both of these beliefs seem wrong to be now that I
have gained more objective knowledge of counselling. Firstly, to keep counselling as a last resort
the person is embracing a very likely possibility that things would get worse then on rather than
better and if proper therapy is undertaken at the very beginning of a problem it will improve
things for the individual for definite and may also be more effective and efficient in comparison to
if you let it blow to proportion that may severely

The Birth Of Event Study Method
The birth of Event study method is frequently traced back to 1969, the first time Fama, Fisher,
Jensen and Roll (1969, hereafter FFJR) introduced how event study method examines the impact of
stock split on share price. Nowadays, the methods of payment on Mergers and Acquisitions can be
analyzed by event study. Asquith(1983) argue that the previous studies, Dodd(1980) and Langetieg
(1978), did not examine the possible changes in value and the market s complete reaction during
the merger process, and did not resolved the question whether the target firm s stockholders gain
averagely from merger. He point out that Langetieg (1978) just focus on the merger date as the
event date, thus ignore the stock markets response in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

until the merger date for the successful target firms. But for the unsuccessful target firms, the
cumulative excess return increases at the announcement date but decrease after that and keep
decreasing until the failure was confirmed. Asquith(1983) found that the stockholder gains and the

stockholders, while the stockholders of the successful bidding firms earn little from the merger

The Path Of Life In Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken
In the poem, The Road Not Taken, by Robert Frost, as the poem advances, the author s attitude
and choices are revealed as the poem develops. The poem is all about choices and what his
attitude is as the poem develops. The poem talks mostly about a path of life that a person will
choose and that they will have to forever follow that path of life, because they can t changethe past
no matter how much they try. In the end, once he s old, he might regret the decision and ponder if
he made the right decision, but he won t be able to do anything in the end because he is a realist.
Although there are many stanzas, the most important stanzais about two roads and how he must
make a choice, but he is unsure of which path he should take. Also, the poem develops in many
ways through the attitude of each stanza because he is dwelling on which path he will take.
Between the first stanza to the fifth stanza, it talks about how he is sorry for how he can t take
both roads and that life is forcing him to choose to go down a path. In the poem it states, And I
looked down on as far as I could. To where it bent in the undergrowth (Frost 4 5). This shows, that
this was a monumental part of his life, but if he chose the wrong path, he might regret it for the
rest of his life, so he tries to see beyond, but the undergrowth blocks his sight. The undergrowth is
symbolic because it is about growth of trees and shrubs like how he must take that path and see for
himself what will lie in the end.

Social Media Is Not The Only Reason For The Privacy
Privacy, it is the one thing that we seem to not have enough of. But the question must be asked,
Whose fault is that? The answer is quite simple, ours. Social media is the number one cause of
lack of privacy. It is something about social media that make us loose our sense of reason and
place all sorts of personal information on the Internet for all the world to see. But, social media is
not the only reason for the privacybreech. There are many reasons, and computer hackers are just
one. Our email information is sold, bank loans, mortgages, and the list could go on and on.
Computers are one of the world s greatest inventions, and sadly, one of the worst. Thanks to
computers, there are so many things we can do from the comfort of our own home. We can do
our banking online, pay our bills, go to school, look for jobs, and so on. Computers have made
us all lazy. They have also made us unconcerned, at least up until recently, with our privacy. We
all know there are bad people in this world, but it seems to be that we have forgotten that there are
some very, very smart people in this world as well. It took a very smart person to invent the
computer, to figure out the inner workings. But if one person can do this many can do this. Enter
the computer hacker.
A computer hacker is someone who can break into your computer and steal whatever information
you have in your system. All of your private information that you think is safe, is not safe anymore.
These hackers can take the

Ancient Greece And Rome Similarities
Comparing and Contrasting Ancient Greece and Rome
Most times a web search for Ancient Greece will pull up many results for Ancient Rome, and a
web search for Ancient Rome will bring up several results for Ancient Greece. The two are
interconnected in many ways and sometimes it may seem as though they are one and the same.
However the two ancient classical civilizations have several differences and not just in period of
existence. There are several similarities and differences between the Ancient Greek and Roman
civilizations, in the aspects of government, art, and religion.
Ancient Greece, and more specifically the city of Athens, has been called the birthplace of
democracy. This is because for a long time the government of the city of Athens... Show more

Massive structures like the Parthenon in Athens, and the Zeus Statue in Greece were crafted by
the Greek artists to depict and provide a place of worship for their many gods and goddesses.
Tails of the conquests of great heroes like Hercules and his defeat of the Hydra were carved and
crafted into stone walls and on the sides of pots and vases. One type of art that was developed in
ancient Greece is called black figure ware. This is the act of engraving black colored figures into
red pottery. A similar style entitled red figure ware is the act of engraving red colored figures
into black backgrounds on pottery. The Romans were fascinated with the Greek culture
including their gods. In fact the Roman Supreme god Jupiter is just another name for the Greek
god Zeus. Roman artists would create their own statues of the gods and carve their own myths
into stone. For a short while, Roman and Greek art was really very similar. However as time
passed Roman artists began to take a different approach; they began to make more lifelike images.
The Greeks of old would portray their gods the best way they knew by trying to design the ideal or
perfect human body. But now Roman officials had busts of themselves that included warts,
wrinkles, unibrows and all. This style of realism continued far into in renaissance as well. Though,

Cyclohexanone Lab Report
RESULTS
Yield: Assuming a reaction that uses up 100% of the cyclohexanone reagent, the theoretical yield is
2.32g. This could be calculated using the following calculation. The 1:1 ratio of moles
cyclohexanone to moles bisphenol Z comes from the mole ratio in the reaction scheme.
1.00g cyclohexanoneГ—(1 mol cyclohexanone)/(98.15g cyclohexanone)Г—(1 mol bisphenol Z)/(1
mol cyclohexanone)Г—(228.29g cyclohexanone)/(1 mol cyclohexanone)=2.32g bisphenol Z
The actual reaction yielded 0.72g of pure bisphenol Z. The percent yield is calculated using the
equation below.
Percent Yield=(Actual Yield)/(Theoretical Yield)в€™100%
This calculation comes out to 30.9% of the expected amount of product.
Percent Yield Base=0.72g/2.32gв€™100%=30.9%
The mass collected at each step is detailed in Table 1.

bisphenol is symmetrical in terms of electronegativity, with an alcohol on each side, while phenol is

move farther relative to the solvent system than the bisphenol Z. The adduct contained a mixture of
both product and starting material, so two spots were observed, one matching the starting material,
and another matching the product. This consistent with the expectation, showing that there is little

The Fetishism of Coffee in America Essay
There are many essentials that are fetishized by Americans; one of those things is coffee. It is no
secret that there is a big demand for coffee with many specialty coffee shops springing up, such
as Starbucks, Peet s and Coffee Bean. Oftentimes, the consumer loses sight of where things come
from and how they are produced. A key component of production is the producer. The consumer
does not pay enough attention to the ethical treatment and wages of the producer. This paper
discusses Karl Marx s premise on Fetishism of Commodities and its direct relation to the
production of coffee, focusing on the value of the coffee bean as well as how that directly impacts
the farmer and his family. As industrialization evolved people worked long days... Show more

He states that material essentials have use value. A thing will have use value because it
becomes a commodity and is produced for others. The price of a use value item is not
determined by how useful but what the thing does and how frequently it is used (Marx in
Desfor Edles and Appelrouth 2012:65, 69). As a material essential s use value grows it becomes
more desired Marx believes that it becomes a fetishized commodity. Marx restructured his earlier
theory of alienation as fetishism of commodities. Fetishism is similar to alienation; however the
premise of consumerism is developed in the way that the consumer loses sight of the labor it takes
to create commodities. To the consumer, commodities are magnificent and allow the material item
to take control of their lives. This is allowed to happen because the producers of material
commodities do not come into contact with one another. Therefore, there is no thought put into
how laborious, and time consuming, it was to create the commodity (Marx in Desfor Edles and
Appelrouth 2012:68, 73). It is evident that there are many things being fetishized in present day.
Specialty coffee has been become increasingly popular since the 1980 s. As of 2001 27 million
Americans consumed specialty coffee daily (Ponte 2002:1111). It can be said that Starbucks helped

preparation. Also, the fact that it is suitable for the large percentage of Japanese that are lactose
intolerant and the approximately 2.7% of the population that is vegan further expands the potential
customer base.
10.One of the main selling points of Soygo yogurts is that they are not complex and require next to

when demand increases.

the process of losing his hearing and then, as he gets older, he struggles with trying to fit in as a
normal child. When Mark was very young, he could hear fairly well then gradually he went hard of
hearinguntil he eventually went completely deaf. Even though he had two deaf parents, the doctors

American Gambling History
According to the Encyclopedia Britannica gambling is the betting or staking of something of
value, with consciousness of risk and hope of gain, on the outcome of a game, a contest, or an
uncertain event whose result may be determined by chance or accident or have an unexpected
result by reason of the bettor s miscalculation (Glimne). This paper looks to provide an overview
the history of gamblingand the role mathematics plays in this billion dollar industry. Gambling
has been in our society since ancient Greek times. Objects similar to dice have been found back
as far as 40,000 years and cave drawings of games provide further evidence that gambling and
games have been around for a very long time (Black). Games of chance, such as dice games,
heads and tails, and other luck based games have been popular and played by many different
groups throughout history. The equivalence of casinos existed in ancient times. These places were
designated for people who were passionate about the games they played. Even then, these places
had a bad reputation as they were known for stripping people of their fortunes.

Examples Of Bad Habits In Relationships
What are Bad Habits in Relationships?
By Mike McTait
Mar 5, 2010
Possibly not everybody has bad habits but definitely the majority of people have some form of bad
habit. The problem is when an individual brings their bad habits into a relationship that creates
problems or conflicts. Although they have got good purposes for making the relationship work,
sometimes the bad habits are so entrenched that it stops them from relating. Below are some of the
many bad habits within a relationship that could cause it to not succeed.
Jealousy
Distrust can frequently plague a lot of fine relationships. Here we aren t talking about when a
person feels jealousy because they have got every reason to believe that their partner is having an
affair. The bad habit of jealousy in a relationship is when, for instance, a boyfriend might at all
times believe his girlfriend is fooling around with other men. A woman... Show more content on

Many people do not take note of their partners wishes as they purely don t listen. One person might
be trying to explain something that is significant to them, and the other will only say, Yes, yes, but
they will not actually hear.
When the partner with the selective hearing bad habit hears something that interests them, rapidly
they are all ears and very much part of the discussion. Evidently this can cause a lot of antagonism
and quickly wear down a relationship.
Dependence
Certain people who are in long relationships can exploit the bad habit of relying on their partner
for everything. This reliance on another person could cause them to become powerless to take
care of themselves. Frequently they won t take any interest with their job because they believe
that it doesn t matter a whole lot as they are looked after by their partner. This sort of bad habit is
particularly harmful as it might take over every aspect of their

Decrease Glomerular Filtration Rate ( Gfr ) And The...
leading to reduced glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and the development of HRS (Munoz, 2008).
Classification of HRS:
Type I: Cirrhosis with rapid progressive acute kidney injury.
Type II: Cirrhosis with sub acute renal failure.
Type III: Cirrhosis with types I or II HRS on top of chronic kidney disease or acute kidney injury.
Type IV: Fulminant liver failure with HRS.
Diagnostic Criteria for HRS
1.Chronic or acute liver disease with progressed liver failure and portal hypertension.
2.Low GFR indicated by serum creatinine 1.5 mg/dL or creatinine clearance 40 mL/min in 24 hour.
3.Absence of circulatory shock, treatment with nephrotoxic drugs, absence of gastrointestinal or
renal fluid losses, and on going bacterial infection.
4.No improvement in renal function (decrease in serum creatinine ≤ 1.5 mg/dL or increase in
creatinine clearance to ≥ 40 mL/min) following withdrawal of diuretics and expansion of
plasma volume with 1.5 liter of isotonic saline.
5.Proteinuria 500 mg/dL without ultra sonographic proof of parenchymal renal disease or
obstructive uropathy (Salerno et al., 2007).
Predictors of HRS:
Several studies have been performed to investigate potential predictors for HRS. Gines et al., found
three independent variables to be predictive of HRS, absence of hepatomegaly, high plasma renin
activity, and low serum sodium (Gines et al., 1993). Montoliu et al., found that older age, high
baseline serum creatinine, and a high CP score were independent

Notes On Real Estate Investment Trust
Real estate investment trust
4.1 Research on REITs
Real estate can be divided into two types: direct and indirect real estate investment. Direct real
estate investment means investors directly buy and sell property. REIT is an indirect way of real
estate investment. REITs is a type of security, it means investors buy shares of a real estateportfolio
managed by professional fund manager.
Publicly traded REITs and non traded REITs
Many REITs are registered with the SEC( U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission) and are
publicly traded on a stock exchange. These are publicly traded REITs. Others may be registered
with the SEC but are not publicly traded. These are non traded REITs (also known as non exchange
traded REITs).
Publicly traded REITs
Publicly traded REITs (also called exchange traded REITs) have their securities registered with
the SEC, file regular reports with the SEC and their securities are listed for trading on an
exchange such as the NYSE or NASDAQ. As with any stock listed on an exchange, you can buy
and sell the stock of a publicly traded REIT with relative ease. An investment in publicly traded
REITs is liquid. .
Non traded REITs:
The securities of Non traded REITs resisted with SEC but not public traded. It is illiquid and
cannot be sold on open market. Non traded REITs do not provide an estimate of their value until
18 months after offering closes. Investors may be attracted by high dividend yields compared to
publicly traded REITs.

Refractory Depression
Although there has been great progress in the treatment of depression, many still struggle to find
effective solutions. SSRIs commonly prescribed require taking daily medication, and
unresponsiveness to the drugs is not uncommon. The style and quality of counseling often vary
from therapist to therapist, making it hard for people to find someone fit to their needs. It s possible
that the solution for those with treatment resistant depression, and other chronic mental illnesses
may be where many do not expect: the DEAs list of schedule one controlled substances. LSD,
Psilocybin, and MDMA have all shown promise in treating one or more mental illnesses, yet the
U.S is tentative to acknowledge their potential. Approving the medicinal use of psychedelic... Show

Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets Analysis
Luc Beeson s massive $180 million science fiction spectacle, Valerian and the City of a Thousand
Planets, inspired from the favorite comics of his youth, is a gorgeous looking, borderline disaster
of a film. At times, the film feels epic, clever, and original. In other moments, especially in the films
final 30 minutes, everything devolves into laugh out loud ridiculousness and cringe worthy acting
and writing. Though never boring, even at 140 minutes on screen, whether dazzling to witness or
stiltedly awful to endure, you simply never know what is coming next.
Beeson s latest film earned that production budget largely through crowd sourcing and the writer
/director s own money. It has been reported that this is the most expensive ... Show more content on

Feed a pearl to a conductor, and suddenly countless pearls come pouring out of the animal. This
regeneration serves as the necessary ingredient for a peaceful, perfect lifestyle.
One particular day, the Pearls fall victim to an attack, which unceremoniously combusts their planet
and leads to a sudden and immediate genocide. A handful of Pearls, away from the planet, did
survive and though they have tried to replicate their inter dimensional world, there are things they
need: An energy pearl for replicating more marble sized pebbles, and the last remaining conductor,
which has just been recovered from a nasty villain and rests in the possession of our (not so)
humble protagonists.
Perhaps it should be mentioned that at this point, Beeson seems unclear on what exactly our
protagonists do for their jobs. DeHaan is a fine actor, but a poor choice to try and carry a two
plus hour science fiction adventure which is saddled with nebulous focus and immature scripting.
His lack of charisma in this role is jarring, as he opts for a weird 1990 s Keanu Reeves style affect
to his voice, and comes off as often smug or manipulative.
Opposite him, Delevingne equips herself well, though Beeson clearly has no idea how to write
dialogue that makes us believe that she could truly love this guy, or that

Hickam s Failure In The Movie October Sky
As a perfect demonstration of the classical clichГ© failure is success s mother , the 1999 movie
October Sky illustrates the rough path of a group of boys chasing their dream. As the Hickam was
settled on his dream of being a rocket scientist, he inspired his friends Roy Lee Cooke and Sherman
O Dell, and the math geek Quentin Wilson, to work with him on innovating their own rocket.
During the process, Hickam and his friends overcome many derider and difficulties until their
launch of the rocket model was finally successful. As soon as they successes, the mine disaster
happened. Hickam s father was injured. Thus, Hickam had to give up his school and dream to work
at the mine. Fortunately, when his father recovers, he was able to return to school.

The Relationship Between Concussions And The Human Brain
The purpose of this review paper is to learn about the relationship between concussions and the
human brain. This is relevant because if people learn about concussions and are aware of the
effects of a concussion, they may be more careful and avoid activities that could cause concussions.
A concussion is a trauma induced change in mental status, which includes confusion and amnesia,
and may cause someone to lose consciousness for a bit . It happens when the head hits or gets hit
by an object or when the brain is struck against the skull with a strong force to cause temporary
loss of functions. In addition, concussions can cause brain damage. Concussions can be caused
from motor vehicle accidents or from playing sports like football. ... Show more content on

The research shows that concussions can cause people to lose consciousness and can have
negative effects on the brain. Concussions could also lead to diseases like depression. In addition,
I learned that the brain is made of three parts: forebrain, midbrain, and hindbrain. Some things that
affect the brain includes not enough sleep, smoking, and stress. Information from previous
experiments gives evidence for the relationship between the independent and dependent variable,
since it shows how the dependent variable is affected by the independent variable. For example,
the American Academy of Neurology has called for a ban on boxing. Boxers repeatedly get
concussions over the course months or years, which can lead to increasing head injury. The
cumulative brain injuries suffered by most boxers can lead to permanent brain damage. This gives
evidence for my independent and dependent variable, because it shows that if someone repeatedly
gets concussions, it could lead to brain

The Last Emancipation Of Death Camps
It s been six decade since the last emancipation of death camps which were located in different
parts of Europe. Holocaust is one of the most tragic events in the history that has always been the
interesting subject for historians. According to Jewish Virtual Library, it was about six million
Jews were massacred for no decent reason. In William Lace s book, The Death Camps, he stated
that Jewsare not the only one killed in the holocaustbut also about five million of Gypsies and
other people were murdered, that time there was no way that anyone could stop the Nazis from
killing blameless people. People were agonized from their homes and taken to ghettos. People from
that time were also brought to the concentration camps and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Adolf Hitler was the head behind the wide massacres. He killed people by groups, just because
they are Jews in nature. Germans would use guns to kill the Jews but as time goes by the
German authorities uses gas chambers to kill people. At first when the Jews arrived they were
lied to. The Germans will persuade the Jews that it was only a labor camp. The Jews would then
fall into line and the Nazi authorities would decide who would live and die. Only the strongest
ones would live and the weak ones were sent to death. They were sent to take bath which was
actually the bath of death. Gas would come out and showers the prisoners and everyone will be
suffocated and in there died. After the suffocation they were moved into large ovens and burn
and dispose their bodies. All camps were full of deception and no German can be trusted. Many
Jews was starved to death because of hunger and that s not enough to keep them alive. It s
apparently a helpful source to know the stories and experiences behind those bars. Today, lots of
movies, poems, stories and novels deal with the holocaust in multiple ways, which cover most of
the literary genre. This literature includes some interviews, stories of the survivors and diaries all
over the world to know the kin information what happened in the concertation camps during the
holocaust era. All these literary text are unique and outstanding in how they deal the history
through their vivid memories and how people began

Flight Patterns Essay
Sherman Alexie s Flight Patterns tries to tackle a challenging subject. It probes the underbelly of
modern life, sifting through the cloudy American mind that s full of seemingly useless
information, in search of what s truly important in life. This happens through the stories two main
scenes. The first depicts William s relationship with his daughter and wife, and conflicts in life.
The second engages William in a taxi cab conversation that shuffles his priorities and forces him
to confront his problem. This pushes him to his tipping point, and when the ride is over, he
becomes uneasy and cares only to hear his family s voice, not about his job, or the fears that had
previously been driving forces. Alexie is trying to show that... Show more content on

Alexie s trying to show us that hiding your problems isn t the correct way to deal with them, and
in William s case, his family needs him more than William needs his job. What exactly is his
job? He works at a think tank selling theoretical ideas to companies. This job plagues William
with ambivalence. Though he s able to think creatively and enjoy certain freedoms that other
jobs don t offer, it restricts the time he has with his family by requires him to fly all over the
country. And as he notes that his wife s always waiting for William to call while on the road, his
taxi arrives and William embarks on the second part of the story. The way I read the taxi cab
portion made me think of it as a quasi mock confession booth, with the driver, Fekadu, serving as
the priest. This isn t very clear at the beginning of the ride when William s trying to meditate and
stuff his problems away into his imaginary deposit box. But once Fekadu gets the conversation
rolling, the outpour of emotion starts, marking an important shift from William hiding problems to
trying to face them. After explaining the feelings that come with leaving his family, causing him
sometimes to feel as if he ll explode without their love, he has an insight that plays into the religious
aspect of the taxicab. There is emotional safety in anonymity, he thought (page 432). And while I m

Prophet Jeremiah Research Paper
The prophet Jeremiah lived during the most critical period of Judah s existence. He saw the
destruction of Jerusalem. God s declared that my people have committed two evils. They have
forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold
no water. Therefore, I will, I cause to cease from the cities of Judah and from the streets in
Jerusalem, the voice in gladness and the voice in joy for the land shall become a desert. Jeremiah
had continually warned God s people to mend their ways before it was too late. And when the
devastation finally overwhelmed Israel, he was the one who mourned Israel s terrible fate. The

Voices among the exiles that disbelieve and condemned Jeremiah as a mad man will not live to see

There is no help for those who have God against them. Jerusalem should have been a center of
devotion but was made a center of wickedness; it is not strange if God employs the service of
destroyers. That God himself will be their enemy when a nation forgets God.
So is the plight of today s society, in particular the United States. Woe is the nation that calls good
evil and evil good. As it was in the day of Jeremiah so it is today. America has turned its back on
the God of creation. When promoting homosexual marriages that is defiant of marriage of the bible
that God instituted, one man and one women, promotion of killing innocent babies and calling
that women s right. We know that life begins at conception and only God has a right to take a
life. It is a sad day since America tries to totally wipe God out of society, Children no longer can

now seems to be the enemy of the political

When discussing a settlement agreement, alimony, retirement and Social Security benefits are
often factors to consider for those who want to leave the workforce within a few years of divorce.
Alimony
Often in marriage, the success of one spouse s career is the result of sacrifices made by the other
spouse. Forbes Magazine explains that the intention of alimony is to ensure that spouses who gave
up the ability to be self supporting should continue to receive the financial benefits of that career
until they can get their own careers going. However, a person who is near retirement may not have
the time, resources or ability to do this, in which case the judge is more likely to award permanent
alimony.
Retirement
Retirement and pension accounts are divisible assets if a person contributed to them during the
marriage, so they would be divided equitably between the spouses. According to USA Today,
some financial experts state that the cost of retirement for two single people is between 30 and 50
percent more than what it would take for a couple to retire. Between that factor and the reduced
funds, a person may need to delay retirement considerably, as well as adjust lifestyle

  • 2. An Overview of Target Costing 1 AN OVERVIEW OF TARGET COSTING Introduction Many managers often underestimate the power of target costing as a serious competitive tool. When general managers read the word costing , they naturally assume it is a topic for their finance or accounting staff. They miss the fact that target costing is really a systematic profit and cost management process. What Is Target Costing? CAM I defines target costing as the maximum amount of cost that can be incurred on a product and still earn the required profit margin from that product. This is captured by the equation Target Cost = Price Profit At first sight the equation appears to reverse the familiar cost plus price equal profit that many firms use. However, behind the inversion of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Together the two variables determine a market price for the product. Setting prices for new models of existing products, such as this year s model of a video cassette recorder (VCR), starts with the current prices. These prices are adjusted for the features added or dropped. For example, assume we add to the new VCR the ability to view tapes in different formats (NTSC, PAL and SECAM). Also assume that we delete an FM radio which was on the previous model since it is not popular. The revised price may be set by taking the current price, adding the price that customers are willing to pay for the multiple format feature and deleting from this price the value customers place on the radio. Setting prices for new products is not easy since there is no existing base to start from. Market research becomes crucial for this type of product. Fanack, a Japanese company, uses a simple formula that sets the price at a level that gives them a five year lead over their competitors. Another technique is to use the prices for substitute products to develop an initial prices. For example, fiber optic cable prices may form the basis for pricing satellite based communication links. 3 The profit target, the second variable in the target costing equation, is set relative to the financial rate of return that a firm needs to stay viable in its industry. Since return on sales is part of the return on investment formula, firms often use ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. A Separate Peace Vs Dead Poets Society After reading the novel A Separate Peace and watching the movie Dead Poets Society, many similarities and differences are brought into view. Some similarities between the two are that in both stories the boys are affected by a classmate s death, the boys are in secret societies, and the boys decisions are made because of the influences of outside pressures. The differences between A Separate Peaceand Dead Poets Society are the relations within the stories, the time periods the stories are set in, and the situations the boys are put in throughout the story. The book A Separate Peace and movie Dead Poets Society have many similarities and differences. One similarity between A Separate Peace and Dead Poets Society is that in both stories,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The outside pressures were the main reasons the boys acted out the way they did. An example is in Dead Poets Society, Neil had wanted to take an easier class at the beginning of the school year, but his father had rejected the idea. When Neil s father also did this with his want to become an actor, it resulted in Neil taking his own life. The boys in Dead Poets Society were forced to do whatever their parents wanted them to do. The pressures in A Separate Peace are different, but they are still pressures that impact the way these boys act and think. One very important pressure in the novel A Separate Peace is the war. The war played such a crucial event throughout the story because it was the main reason they were all fidgety and worried at times, they never wanted to be drafted into the war. Even though they knew they did not want to be in the war, they would go in a patriotic way if they had to. This also lead to another problem with outside pressure. Finny was not physically able to be drafted into any force, whether it be American or not. In the novel A Separate Peace, Finny states on page 190, They all gave me the same answer after they saw the medical report on me. The answer was no soap. We can t use you . This was all because of his disability with the broken leg, Finny s own leg was the issue. This caused him to be pressured because he could not do the right, patriotic thing ... • 5. Characteristics Of Anglo Saxon Heroic Period The Heroic Era The Anglo Saxon Period Old English In every era, of course there are certain areas that defines the way of living of people on their specific time period. Some of these are the style of government, the roles of each gender, the conduct of people, military, language, social and/or economic hierarchy, and more. The Anglo Saxon Era is no exception. In the Anglo Saxon Period, the most distinguishing areas would be the Style of Government, the Roles of Men and Women and the Language that they use. The Anglo Saxon, these are Germans who went to Britain after the fall of the Roman Empire. They became the masters of the land and the had kept the legacy of the Romans. In this time, bravery, truth, honor, loyalty and duty, hospitality and perseverance are some of the Anglo Saxon values. Anglo Saxon, as illustrated by the literary text named Beowulf, the times were barbaric and would require the use of weapons in order to bravely defend the land. in this time, the concept of hero is basically what most of the people wanted to be. • 6. Definition Of Professionalism Professionalism can be defined as the skills expected from someone that was trained to perform a certain job or duty. Personally, I agree with this simple description, but at the same time I believe that professionalism is a much more complex characteristic. There is a difference between being a professional and be professional. Nowadays, most of us, students, are looking forward to obtain a degree in order to be qualified for a certain type of job. In other words, the main goal of students is to become professionals in a particular area. Become a professional it is not only related to college and the learning process, it is related to the development and improvement of one s abilities. For instance, when applying the learned skills in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the way in that a person is able to implement those skills is what I consider professionalism. It is not only about the abilities or knowledge that a person might have, but rather about the behavior and the values behind those abilities. Professionalism is a characteristic that needs to be earned, practiced and improved every day. There are many factors that need to be taken in consideration when defining professionalism. For example, someone might be an expert in nursing sciences, but could also steal or misuse drugs from a hospital, or not provide an empathetic care for its patient. Being professional involves successfully executing those skills and abilities learned, but always in an honest and acknowledgeable way. Professionalism means to show a positive and leading conduct, avoid mistakes, solve difficulties, be responsible and to follow the rules. Also, it is important to make a division between the professional and the personal setting. For instance, a person shouldn t do things in order to obtain a personal benefit, such as hiring a close member of the family if that person is not qualified for the ... • 7. To Build The Wall To Build Or Not To Build The Wall. My opinion is that we should build a wall, what is yours? The reason I am in favor of the wall is because 12 million immigrants cross the border every year illegally. Doesn t the wall mean that we will start a bad relationship with Mexico? No, they should realize that there people are just pouring in America so a wall means that we would have an extra line of defense. In a year 12 million illegal immigrants would come here from Mexico and they could be brining guns/ drugs. Do you really wantthat in America. We should build the wall because the positives out way the negatives. We will be stopping drugs and guns if we put up that wall. The illegal immigrants could be caring drugs when the cross the border.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My first reason is that a presidential candidate wants the wall to go up. I quote that I chose is, I ve been leading the fight in the Senate to triple the Border Patrol, to put in place fencings and walls, to put in place a strong biometric exit/entry system (Ted Cruz). If you are a person running for president, you don t want to do and say stupid stuff. Having said Ted still said that he would be in favor of the wall because he realizes that these illegal immigrants need to be stopped and have them come over legally. My second reason is governors are also in favor of the wall. The quote I chose is, As noted in Immigration Wars, fencing is a component of border security. When combined with surveillance technology and agents to detect and respond to crossings, fencing or other barriers can serve several purposes, including: (1) deterring illegal entries by making it more difficult to cross the border, (2) facilitating enforcement by increasing the time available to respond and apprehend people, and (3) steering dangerous criminals and traffickers away from populated areas, improving public safety. Sufficient funding should be provided to maintain, improve, and expand fences where appropriate (e.g., based on the terrain along the border or the proximity of populated areas) (Jeb Bush). What this is saying is that to actually really stop these immigrants and dangerous criminals, we need something other than just the border patrol and that something is the wall. It will only help America. Just because the media says its bad, is it really? Do you always agree with stuff on TV and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address Analysis September, 2015 Did Lincoln s second inaugural address give proof that his religious faith is what gave him justification to continue the Civil War? Though his second inaugural speech was among the shortest in history, Lincoln spoke volumes within it. The Civil War was not an easy one, and had an astounding amount of deaths, but despite the ups and downs, Lincoln persisted relentlessly with the importance of seeing the war through to the end. It is within his second inaugural speech that we can get a clear view into his psyche and understand a bit better why he was so passionate. Towards the end, he states, Fondly do we hope, fervently do we pray, that this mighty scourge of war may speedily pass away. Yet if God wills that it continue until all the wealth piled by the bondsman s two hundred and fifty years of unrequited toil shall be sunk, and until every drop of blood drawn with the lash shall be paid by another drawn with the sword, as was said three thousand years ago, so still it must be said, that the judgements of the Lord... • 9. Comparison Tom and Gatsby in The Great Gatsby Tom Buchanan and Jay Gatsby... perfect foils? By: Daniela Calderon In The Great Gatsby, written by Scott Fitzgerald, Tom Buchanan and Jay Gatsby are two characters that struggle with the idea of losing their shared love interest, Daisy. Tom and Gatsby s attachment to Daisy is differently justified due to their contrasting views, personalities, attitudes, actions, backgrounds, and other factors, some of which they do share and concur in. Fitzgerald did a great thing here. He created two purposefully different characters one that is easily despised, the other that although not perfect, is likable and united them in their love for money, the power that comes with it , and their haunt for the ultimate prize Daisy. In this essay,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not even the effeminate swank of his riding clothes could hide the enormous power of that body...it was a body capable of enormous leverage...a cruel body. On the other hand, Gatsby seems to be shy and reserved to the point where he is not even acknowledged at his own parties. In my opinion, Gatsby did not do so well when attempting to pull off a defying front during his confrontation with Tom. Tom also comes off as a racist bigot who fears that the Black race will eventually submerge the White race, a sexist, and an abusive, insensitive, brute , like Daisy calls him. Gatsby s open house parties which contain very colorful characters, on the other hand, seem to show little prejudice or judgment in his persona. Gatsby s action of waiting outside the Buchannan s home all night just to make sure Tom would not physically harm Daisy, show just how sensitive Gatsby is to Daisy s well being. Tom seems to be very blunt and crude, while Gatsby s distinguishing feature is the enigma that is his life. Jay Gatsby holds himself to high expectations and lived his life chasing a single dream, while Tom Buchanan seems to have no direction, goals, or dreams, other than to waste away his wealth, and please his selfish needs. In my opinion, the fundamental difference between Tom and Gatsby is how Fitzgerald decided that justice would be served to each concerning part. Tom is the definition of ... In this essay I am going to be discussing and assessing how the Barbie Doll which is a toy for children, mainly for girls has changed over the years since the 1900 s to the present generation and how this relates to other larger contexts like class, gender, race, disability and faith. Below I have inserted 2 pictures of the Barbie doll, One from 1959 and one from 2010, which is fairly recent. 1950 s: The first Barbie Doll 2010 Barbie Doll(s) I strongly believe that the Barbie Dolls have changed hugely since the 1900 s. He says children engage themselves In imaginative play which means that if they see a story or characters they are most likely to imitate them and what they do. When children imitate others they develop a vocabulary which allows them to name the world around them. This relates to dolls because if a child is given a doll which moves and does things around a doll house like cleaning, a child will imitate that around the house and act like a house wife like the doll. This shows that dolls are created in that way to leave a image in the child s head on what a girl does when she grows up, likewise how the dolls have changed, whilst children grow older they have certain changes in them ... Naturally, I quickly ran inside, i was about to get a tissue to deposit it far, far away, from anywhere near me, but I stopped. Why was there a large spideron my porch? It was just sitting along the side of it, completely exposed. It was probably a good place to catch flies since it was near the trash can, but it was left completely exposed. The side of my back porch was right by the door to go inside, Wouldn t it build a web somewhere safer? Why here? Curious, I went out to look again, staying well apart in case it tried to jump. When I got home, again there was the similar flash of fear and apprehension upon seeing her. She hadn t attempted to jump at me, or even crawl closer, but she was still vaguely threatening. Inside the house, in spiderless comfort, I looked up what this brown banded little spider might be. Online I came across a picture that a was perfect candid of the tiny home invader on my porch. When I followed the link, I had a name: the Banded Garden Spider. Argiopetrifasciata was an orb weaver, thankfully not poisonous, jumping, or dangerous in the slightest. Their diet was commonly flies, aphids, wasps, bees, and grasshoppers. It made sense why she was near the trash can where flies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Rachel Cameron In Margaret Laurence s A Jest Of God Generally, people have a team of peers, whether it be friends, colleagues, or family members that help (or impede) them in their growth as a human being in society. This is no different for Rachel Cameron, the principal character in Margaret Laurence s A Jest of God. Throughout the text, Rachel has many people in her life that affect her in many ways. Three key people who alter Rachel s character into the woman she becomes at the end of the book are her mother, Calla Mackie, and Nick Kazlik. Each of them has their own unique effect on Rachel, some effects being for the better, and others less so. First and foremost, the people who usually have the largest impact on someone s life are their parents. In Rachel s case, within the confines of this text, that is just her mother. Parents have such an immense influence on their children not only as they are growing up, but also into adulthood. • 14. Understanding the Global Warming Debate Throughout history climates have drastically changed. There have been shifts from warm climates to the Ice Ages (Cunningham Cunningham, 2009, p.204). Evidence suggests there have been at least a dozen abrupt climate changes throughout the history of the earth. There are a few suspected reasons for these past climate changes. One reason may be that asteroids hitting the earthand volcanic eruptions caused some of them. A further assumption is that 22 year solar magnetic cycles and 11 year sunspot cycles played a part in the changes. A further possibility is that a regular shifting in the angle of the moon orbiting earth, with the ensuing changing tides and atmospheric circulation, affects the global climate (Cunningham Cunningham,... The first resulting climate change discussed is warming global surface temperature. There has been an increase in global surface temperature of 0.74 degrees C since the late 19th century. In the last 50 years alone the temperature has increased by 0.13 degrees C per decade. North America and Eurasia have seen the largest increase in warmth (Easterling Karl, 2011, para6). Plus, new measurement analysis of the lower and mid troposphere show comparable temperature rising rates as surface temperatures (Alley et al., 2007, p.5). Also, in this past century the arctic temperature average has doubled in comparison to the global temperature average (Alley et al., 2007, p.7). In addition, borehole temperatures, snow cover, and glacier recession data all seem to agree with recent warming (Easterling Karl, 2011, para11). According to a study on leadership and organizational culture by T. Gilberson et al., the values within the organization can be linked to the personality characteristics of the CEO. It is upper management that is believed to be the primary influence on the creation and development of organizational culture.2 Kozlowski put policies in place to misappropriate the funds of the company, these policies directly violated company culture. The other directors began to follow these policies even thought they knew it went against company policy. Why? According to social cognitive theory, individuals are proactively involved in their own development; What people think, believe, and feel affects how they behave . 4 If we believe this statement to be true than why were the subordinates at Tyco influenced by the leaders to engage in unethical corporate culture. This passage describes how Julio and Romiette respond to a potentially dangerous situation with careless actions. Barriers often obstruct the achievement of goals which bring about growth and change within oneself and their surroundings. Billy Elliot is a film set in an English town of Evirngton, England during the 1985 mining strikes. The film depicts a young boy facing the challenge of overcoming traditional gender stereotypes to pursue his love for ballet. Billy faces extreme adversity from his family and community that hold traditional values and beliefs. The process of transitioning into a new phase of life may be confronting but ultimately lead to new understandings of self and others. Stephen Aldry s Billy Elliot film epitomizes this idea as Billy tries to pursue his passion for dancing in 1980 s England. The obstacles he faces throughout his transition shape his journey throughout the text. Similarly, Clint Eastwoods novel American sniper explores how transitions can shape an individual and their relationships with others around them, Where Kyle returns from his first deployment and reunites with Taya Kyle. Taya immediately notices that her husband has changed, war has made him moodier and angrier. Yet this transition is yet to be complete. • 21. My Experience In Counselling My first experience with counselling was when I was roughly 17 years old. Back then I was a part of the people who believed in the myths surrounding counselling, back then it was my last option but I can still look back and say that I took that decision on my own and I was prepared to face resistance which I did, in the form of my parents who thought that it was an option for people who had gone mad . Overcoming these resistances I finally went ahead for counselling and to my absolute disappointment, the sessionwas useless and at times even offensive to me. This issue has prompted me to go to personal therapy and also has increased the relevance and importance of personal therapy in my eyes. Through this experience I have also realised how unresolved issues in the past can impact the counselling process with or without you being aware about them. There are many areas that I need to work on expect this and the major among them is my competence as a counsellor, I still need to develop various professional skills that I will be required to employ in the counselling session and that is something I believe I will gain from my course. The most important thing that believe I need to work on are my own beliefs about counselling, for a long time I didn t realise that despite being trained for becoming a counsellor I never realised that even to me counselling seemed appropriate as the last option, a choice you make when all else fails and also that with time things will eventually get better and you don t need therapy to work through it. Both of these beliefs seem wrong to be now that I have gained more objective knowledge of counselling. Firstly, to keep counselling as a last resort the person is embracing a very likely possibility that things would get worse then on rather than better and if proper therapy is undertaken at the very beginning of a problem it will improve things for the individual for definite and may also be more effective and efficient in comparison to if you let it blow to proportion that may severely ... The Path Of Life In Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken In the poem, The Road Not Taken, by Robert Frost, as the poem advances, the author s attitude and choices are revealed as the poem develops. The poem is all about choices and what his attitude is as the poem develops. The poem talks mostly about a path of life that a person will choose and that they will have to forever follow that path of life, because they can t changethe past no matter how much they try. In the end, once he s old, he might regret the decision and ponder if he made the right decision, but he won t be able to do anything in the end because he is a realist. Although there are many stanzas, the most important stanzais about two roads and how he must make a choice, but he is unsure of which path he should take. Also, the poem develops in many ways through the attitude of each stanza because he is dwelling on which path he will take. Between the first stanza to the fifth stanza, it talks about how he is sorry for how he can t take both roads and that life is forcing him to choose to go down a path. In the poem it states, And I looked down on as far as I could. To where it bent in the undergrowth (Frost 4 5). This shows, that this was a monumental part of his life, but if he chose the wrong path, he might regret it for the rest of his life, so he tries to see beyond, but the undergrowth blocks his sight. The undergrowth is symbolic because it is about growth of trees and shrubs like how he must take that path and see for himself what will lie in the end. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is no secret that there is a big demand for coffee with many specialty coffee shops springing up, such as Starbucks, Peet s and Coffee Bean. Oftentimes, the consumer loses sight of where things come from and how they are produced. A key component of production is the producer. The consumer does not pay enough attention to the ethical treatment and wages of the producer. A thing will have use value because it becomes a commodity and is produced for others. The price of a use value item is not determined by how useful but what the thing does and how frequently it is used (Marx in Desfor Edles and Appelrouth 2012:65, 69). As a material essential s use value grows it becomes more desired Marx believes that it becomes a fetishized commodity. Marx restructured his earlier theory of alienation as fetishism of commodities. Fetishism is similar to alienation; however the premise of consumerism is developed in the way that the consumer loses sight of the labor it takes to create commodities. To the consumer, commodities are magnificent and allow the material item to take control of their lives. This is allowed to happen because the producers of material commodities do not come into contact with one another. Therefore, there is no thought put into how laborious, and time consuming, it was to create the commodity (Marx in Desfor Edles and Appelrouth 2012:68, 73).
