Clyfford Still Museum Case Study
Introduction This document breaks down some of the financial information that was accessible for the
Clyfford Still Museum. Much of this information was gathered during an interview conducted at the
beginning of the year for another assignment, however it was incredibly applicable here for this
assignment as well. This document also briefly touches on the museum expenses as well as its attempt
at and donation solicitation. Finances The Clyfford Still is a unique organization in many ways. It is a
501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and generally operates like a normal 501(c)(3), asides from the
security provided by the Clyfford Still Museum Foundation. The Clyfford Still Museum Foundation is
also classified as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. This governing body has its own board of directors separate
from the board of the museum itself. According to the museum s Director of Marketing John Eding,
the idea of a separate organization managing the endowment has allowed the Clyfford Still Museum to
always operate without a deficit (Eding 2018). This organization for this cultural is reminiscent of the

However, even without that data it can be said with relative confidence that the Clyfford Still Museum
Foundation is by far the largest contributor to the organization. Even if 100% of the $720,000 earned

Still Museum s revenue would still be non patron generated (Eding 2018). As noted in The Week 5

case for the Clyfford Still Museum, which wouldn t be able to function without the tremendous

The Work Of Belbin And My Personal Experiences
The work of Belbin and my personal experiences
The Financial Post (2015) stated teamwork is key to success; this is true in the context of building
careers as at some point you will have to work in a team, which is sometimes challenging. Steve Jobs
also believed in the importance of teamwork Great things in business are never done by one person
they re done by a team of people. (BusinessNewsDaily, 2013). There are many different aspects of
teamwork for example; skills, team conflict and group size. This essay reflects on my personal
experiences of working in a team. First I will talk about the literature of Belbin, describing key
elements about teamwork. Then I will assess how accurately the literature reflects my experiences of
teamwork. Lastly, I will look at what I have learned from the experience, by putting the literature and
my experiences into context. I have various experiences in team projects, which I will be relating to
the project that I recently took part in regarding leadership.
Belbin s 1993 book concludes that an effective team has members covering all 9 key roles. It is
beneficial to have a dynamic team that contributes a wide range of skills, whereby people will be
appointed on the basis of their functional roles as and when their skills would be needed (Belbin,
1993). Managing team conflict is also important as Belbin, (2002) argues that if a team were to reach
mutual grounds on each member s goals prior to starting tasks this would ensure the

Men and Women Were Created Equ Essay
By: Robert
E mail: an@cancom.net
Men and Women were Created Equal Men are not superior to women, they are equal in every way.
Although it is true that society has stereotyped women into traditional roles, this preconceived notion,
is totally false. Action to promote the concept of equality in our society needs to be taken. Women
have been fighting for equality for many decades. As a result of this battle, some amazing
transformations have taken place amongst the female gender. Women have become educated and over
the last few decades have started to take active roles and their rightful place in society. They have
made major inroads in working opportunities, including government, science and even the military.
They are reshaping world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2 Another example of women sharing an equal role in today s society is demonstrated in the military.
Today s women joining the Canadian Armed Forces are equally eligible with men for combat roles.
Over 229,000 women serve on active duty in the military services of the Department of Defense. This
monumental step allows women to become takers, as well as producers of life. Women now have
equal rights and responsibilities in the defense of our country. These advances have been made, not
only on the ground but in the air as well. In 1988, Deanna Brasseur became Canada s first female
fighter pilot. That same year, the defense department appointed their first female general, Sheila
Hellstrom. The department also stated that women often do better at riflery than men due to the fact
that they listen to instruction while men tend to think they know it all. A male veteran sergeant, proud
of his work with female recruits, says that: Today s women won t find anything that hard to adjust to
in the military. The facts are telling a tale. Many doors are opening for women and they are barreling
through with boundless energy and determination. The 21st century is here and the traditional role of
the stay at home mother is all but disappeared. Marriage and children are still signs of the successful
women, however women are less willing to accept exclusive roles of housewife and mother. More and
more women are entering the labor market as education has

Regression Test For Root Units
And ADF regression tests help to root units in YT, which is the logarithm of the number of the patient
s blood, which takes a year of ratios of iron deposited in the body doses,T denotes the deterministic
time trend and ∆Yt i is the lagged first differences to accommodate aserial correlation in the error, μ t.
While, ∝, δ, β, and θ are the parameters to be estimated.
Meanwhile, the Phillips Peron (PP) test is shown by the equation below:
∆ Yt=μ+pYt 1 +εt (2)
The PP test is used because it will make a correction to the t statistics of the coefficient from the AR
(1) regression to account for the serial correlation. The PP test is a test of the hypothesis P=1 in the
equation 2. But, unlike the ADF test, there are no lagged difference terms. Instead, the equation is
estimated by OLS and then the t statistics of the P coefficient is corrected for serial correlation in εt.
The co integration allows the analysis to clarify the true relationship between two variables, by
searching for co integration factor and remove its influence when necessary . Although the common
methods of integration that we used, focuses on cases in which analysis. But the basic time series
integrated at the same class variables, which are first class. For the purposes of this study. We used a
linear regression model to determine the nature of the relationship between Iron and Blood as follows

Research Paper On Sunset Beach
I took a spin around the oval parking area, finding it to be as crowded as I had expected with all fifty
spots filled. The island portion of Sunset Beach has one of the best and most accessible beaches in
North Carolina it s one of the few that face south and it has the best of facilities, too with several
showers on the boardwalk and real toilets nearby. Finishing the loop I realized that I had two choices
find a spot to park up the road as far as three or four blocks away or go next door to the fishing pier
and pay to park. I chose to pay. I could afford it. My Tommy Bahama beach chair has shoulder straps
so it was on my back. My cooler with soft drinks, ice, and a big sub for my dinner was in my right
hand and my umbrella was over my shoulder

Yank as a Modern Day Oedipus in O Neill s Play, The Hairy Ape
The representation of tragedy today has adapted itself to more humanistic, base and symbolic
concerns. Often, they are commentaries on society just as much as they are on the nature of man.
Although O Neill insists that his play The Hairy Ape is not a tragedy, but rather a dark comedy, the
play follows the definition of a tragedy. The basic points that make up a tragedy still remain the same,
even if they have to be slightly modified to be relevant to today s audience. Despite this, The Hairy
Ape bears a striking resemblance to the quintessential Greek tragedy, Oedipus Rex.
The only direct challenge to the Aristotelian definition of tragedy is the portrayal of the ... Show more

YANK : I don t give a damn what! I d be square wit her, wouldn t I? Tink I wanter let her put somep n
over on me? Tink I m gonna let her git away wit that stuff?
This is one of the most telling sections of the play. Long is the voice of reason. He recognizes the
concept of law and weighs decisions inside the context of such. Long sees his life as more important
than Mildred and her actions are. Yank however, does not merely want revenge on Mildred. For Yank,
the only important thing is his sense of self respect. He isn t going to let her put somep n over me.
Ironically, Long s declaration that Yank would be anged or lectrocuted is only half true. Yank does
indeed die at the end of his search to reclaim his dignity and identity, but in accordance with his final
realization that he is merely a brute, animalistic being, he is killed by and as such.
Oedipus may literally be of noble stature, but Yank is noble in a psychological sense. Yank sees
himself in a lofty and admirable position this is his sense of self. This self pride is Yank s equivalent of
Oedipus noble status. There are few nobles in modern day, and in response, modern tragedies have
reverted back to the core theme of a tragedy the transition of man into a higher level of

Week 8 Case Study JetBlue Man Hon Chan 22002960 Introduction An initial public offering (IPO)
refers to the initial stage of shares offering to the public market for subscriptions by a company to
raise capital for the purpose of expansion. It is considered as a big issue for companies as an IPO does
not necessary guarantee the success of a company as it is merely a tool of raising capital while its
costs of issuance and consecutive monitoring costs (due to diluted shareholdings of the company by
public investors) are relatively higher than the cost of issuing corporate debt. Yet IPO is still a popular
tool for infant firms due to the fact it creates strategic market exposure. JetBlue was attempting to

In FCFE approach, the required rate of return by shareholders is required and can be calculated using
the CAPM model, which the information showed that the risk free rate (derived from yield from
treasury notes) and the estimated market risk premium are 5%, the beta implemented in the CAPM
model cannot be directly obtained since JetBlue has never been listed before hence a medium has to
be used which the Southwest beta of 1.6 is chosen given the characteristics and nature of the two
companies are similar hence is expected to be affected by similar systematic risk. The calculated
required rate of return therefore would be 5%+1.6(5%)=14%. In contrast, in the FCFF approach, a
weighted cost of capital (WACC) is required to use, which can be determined as the percentage of
debt to equity multiply by the cost of debt plus one minus the percentage of debt to equity multiply by
the cost of capital, or the required rate of return. The percentage of debt to equity is derived from the
balance sheet of JetBlue as 99%. The cost of debt can only be indirectly obtained from the current
debt structure of Southwest Airlines, the 7.375 debenture (with yield to maturity of 8.68%) is chosen
given it is a long term debt and to remain conservative. It is assumed that the long term debt of JetBlue
worth of $300m is separately obtained from three different sources. Thus the WACC is calculated as

Mahatma Gandhi Impact
Mahatma Gandhi was truly one of history s greatest heroes. He sacrificed his entire life to help those
in need. Through his love, perseverance, and endurance, Gandhi changed the world. Mahatma Gandhi,
born Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, was born in Porbandar, India, on October 2, 1896. He had two
older brothers named Laxmidas and Karsandas and an older sister named Raliabehn. He also had two
half sisters born from his father s previous marriage. Out of all of his siblings, Gandhi was the
youngest (Rau 4). Gandhi s father, Karamchand, was the diwan, or prime minister, of Porbandar.
Because of this, Gandhi and his family lived a comfortable life in a three story house along with
numerous servants. On the other hand, Gandhi s mother, Putlibai, had deep Hindu traditions. She was
extremely religious. She could often be found praying, fasting, and worshipping in the temple to honor
God. Putlibai s devotion to the Lord left a huge impression on Gandhi as a young boy (Rau 6 7).
When Gandhi was seven years old, he and his family moved to an inland city called Rajkot. This is
where Gandhi started school. Although he adored school, he was incredibly, painfully shy. Gandhi
once stated that his books and his lessons were his only companions. As soon as he was done with
school, he would sprint as fast as he could home to avoid any social interactions with his classmates.
One of Gandhi s many, many fears was that he would be made fun of him. At this point in his life, he

The Rich Brother Greed Quotes
People can look at a person and tell if a person is greedy, but what they cannot tell is why that person
is greedy. There are many reasons as to why a person is greedy, but they all boil down to the fact that
the person is deeply unsatisfied with their life and are trying to find what they are missing through
greed. Most often than not, the greedy person never rids him or herself from that unsatisfied feeling
because the more they receive the more their horizons open up, which leads to a greater feeling of
dissatisfaction. It is because of this vicious circle that a greedy person will never ease their
dissatisfaction. To better understand that greed is caused by dissatisfaction, the analysis of the
character Pete in the story, The Rich Brother, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

beginning the dad begins to get rich pretty quickly from the pancake shop he owns, but then he
compares his life to his father s life and how much better his father had it, so in vain he tries to be
better than his dad (1320). He is not satisfied until he passes his father s reputation and wealth. While
he tries to feel satisfied by what he has made for himself, he begins to take his new wealth and his
position as store owner to a different height to gain more success. In this process, the dad loses all his
workers and becomes a greedy man, which heightens his dissatisfaction with his life. His money is so
important to him that he when he goes to buy a suit for a country club party, he leaves the price tag on,
so he can return it. However, at this party he begins to see that because of his greed, he will never be
satisfied with what he has and that he will never be his father in the American society. This is seen
when Jeremy confronts him. Jeremy tries to get the dad to put on Jeremy s shirt, but the dad refuses to
because he does not want to show how greedy his is and how poor he is in the American society.
However, Jeremy takes the dad s coat off and then precedes to make fun of the dad about the price.
This whole incident, shows how much the dad s greed was steamed from the lust to be like his father,
which led to dissatisfaction about his life in America, which then turned into the love of money, so
much so he was going to return a 112 dollar coat after wearing it. Thus, greed is caused by

The study will look at the superbike segment of Yamaha and focus on the Yamaha R1, a popular sports
bike within the superbike market. The term innovation is defined as a change that creates a new
dimension of performance (Drucker Hesselbein, 2002) and in the context of this study it is both the
element of change and the increase in product performance which raises the questions, whether it is
this element alone which fuels the success for sustaining competitive advantage? Competitive
advantage is defined as a position that a firm occupies in its competitive landscape (Porter, 1985).
Porter described the position as a situation whether sustainable or not as a point whereby earnings
exceed costs. This simple calculation suggests, according to Porter that ordinary competitive pressures
are not able to drive down the firms earnings to the point where they cover all costs and just provide
sufficient additional return to keep capital invested. The notion of sustainability is an area which is
difficult to achieve here as the

Powerful Discourses Regarding Women s Bodies
Throughout history, women and their bodies have been portrayed in numerous different forms. Some
argue that the weak female body was prone to madness and hysteria, while others praise its purity and
ability to nurse children. Edward Jorden s A Briefe Discourse of a Disease called the Suffocation of
the Mother, printed in 1603, is a prime example of the former argument. Jorden contends that women
are more liable to fall under the control of supernatural powers and evil spirits. On the other hand,
Elizabeth Clinton asserts through her publication, From the Countess of Lincoln s Nursery, that a
woman should be valued due to the significant benefits of a mother nursing her own child. These
discourses of the female body continued to conflict and show themselves in numerous pieces of
literature, undeniably influencing our culture substantially.
Concerns about the sovereign s gender formed one of the primary social considerations of this period.
As both of these documents were published directly after the end of Queen Elizabeth s reign in 1603,
one might expect to see these gender considerations revealed in the works produced during this time.
Although Elizabeth s regime brought much prosperity and order to England, some English subjects
still desired for a return to state stability through a solidification of the patriarchal system. They
believed there to be the danger in women s involvement in politics at the sovereign level due to the
weakness of the female body. However, there

Despite the accolades, Coke Zero stumbled out of the gate. Big success came only after Coca Cola

The drink was initially marketed with a tagline of everybody chill a vague emotional message that
didn t work. Consumers were left confused about what the brand meant. The Coke Zero brand team
had studied beer ads for clues to appealing to young adult men, but the team hadn t clearly explained
Coke Zero s reason for being in the market.
The company sought to boil down Coke Zero s intrinsic value with a message that it delivered real
Coke taste, zero calories. Five years on, the marketing pitch remains the same.
Coke Zero was initially sold in white cans and bottles. In the feedback from consumers, Coca Cola
researchers noticed a problem. The white packaging connoted diet drinks, and among the coveted
young male demographic, diet connoted female. The company quickly borrowed an idea from its
Australian division and swathed Coke Zero in black. Within six months, the new marketing and

Information Technology Is A Critical Part Of Today Society
Information technology is a critical part of today society and more than ever in the business operation,
production and demands internally for IT support continues to rise due to multiple device used by

The use of colour is also instrumental in Pedro Almodovar s pop art style. The incorporation of
classical Catholic themed oil paintings in Elena s bedroom and also the images Lydia s sister is

significant influence on the emerging culture of Spanish youth since the 1980 s. Almodovar s
exploration of issues such as the drug culture in a non traditional manner is evident in both movies.
The narrative does not directly comment on Elena s addiction to freebase cocaine and gratuitously

Franco and the emergence of Spain from that dictatorial, repressive regime. The exploration of the

Undermines Religion In The Golden CompassBy Philip Pullman
The Golden Compass, by Philip Pullman, has been a controversial book that has been criticized and
even banned by many religious groups such as the Catholic Church and religious right groups.
Pullman undermines religion in The Golden Compass through his characters beliefs and actions which
demonstrate that the church is controlled by people who are corrupt and will do anything to maintain
power including lying, kidnapping, inhumane experimentation, and even murder. The main character,
Lyra, is an eleven year old orphan girl who lives at Jordan College in an alternate universe from ours.
Here, people have daemons or animals always with them that represent the true nature of their
humans. Children s daemons can change shape often, but after puberty, adult daemons are fixed and
represent their owners souls. Lyra is an innocent, tomboyish girl who constantly gets into mischief
with her daemon, Pan, and her friends. She is oblivious to the good and bad going on around her until
her Uncle, Lord Asriel, arrives and shows her evidence of the discovery of Dust in the far North which
represents original sin. From then on, Lyra is exposed to the evil going on in her world. Children are
disappearing around her. They are being kidnapped by Gobblers, and she later learns that the children
are being severed from their daemons through inhumane experiments by the church to prevent them
from exercising free will and sinning. She thinks of this cutting as the most horrible thing, and

Essay On How Hormones Can Affect A Woman s Behavior
How Hormones Can Affect A Woman s Moods
Women have a relatively unique hormonal system when compared to men. Men have a relatively
static hormone system with stable levels of pituitary and gonadal hormones throughout their daily
lives, suffering from decreasing levels of testosterone after the age of 30 40. Usually this gradual
change does not markedly affect male mood.
Women, on the other hand, spend much of their reproductive lives with a cyclical pattern of hormones
that change on a day to day basis. The cycle repeats itself every month and the fluctuations alone can
contribute to changes in everyday mood.
In the beginning of the cycle, the LH and FSH levels are low. The FSH gradually rises in order to

If the symptoms are relatively mild, she can take vitamins, eat healthy, and exercise in order to

and get prescribed selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or SSRIs like Prozac, Lexapro, or Celexa.
These can reduce many of the emotional symptoms so typical of having PMDD or even milder
premenstrual symptoms.
Hyperthyroid Conditions
Women are at a higher risk of hypothyroid or hyperthyroid conditions when compared to men. This
means they have a higher risk of these hormonally related conditions affecting mood and outlook on
life. Hypothyroidism is much more common than hyperthyroidism but both syndromes can lead to
mood disorders and mental symptoms.
In hypothyroidism, the main mood symptoms include the following:
Depressive symptoms
Tiredness or fatigue even when getting enough sleep at night.
Difficulty sleeping
If the woman has hyperthyroidism, she likely

circuit converts the two output voltage sources of dc dc power converter into a three level dc voltage,
and the full bridge power converter further converts this three level dc voltage into a seven level ac
voltage. In this way, the proposed solar power generation system generates a sinusoidal output current
that is in phase with the utility voltage and is fed into the utility. The salient features of the proposed
seven level inverter are that only six power electronic switches are used, and only one power
electronic switch is switched at high frequency at any time. A prototype is developed and tested to
verify the performance of this proposed solar power generation system.
Keywords Grid connected, multilevel inverter, pulse width modulated (PWM) inverter.

Case Study Of Ant Colony Optimization
1.6 Ant Colony Optimization: 1.6.1 Introduction The conception of massive Gordian behavior
emerging from the behavior of many relatively simple units, and the dealings with them, is
fundamental to the field of Artificial Intelligence. The growing understanding of such systems offers
the prospect of creating artificial systems which are controlled by such significant shared behavior; in
particular, we believe that the sweating of this concept might lead to entirely new channels for the
pilotage of distributed systems, such as load balancing in telecommunications networks. In such
regimes, requests between any two points typically route through some central switching bureau or
nodes in a big system; there are many future paths for each such call. It is thus viable to emancipate
actual or potential local hurdles by routing requests via parts of the system which have extra capacity.
Load balancing is essentially the creation of call routing schemes which successfully assign the
changing load over the system and curtail lost requests. Of course, it is viable to determine the shortest
routes from every node to every other node of the network. With the help of this mean utilization of
nodes reduces, but this is not necessarily the drift way to avoid node congestion, as this has to do with
how the vivisection of the traffic on the network. Controlling distributed systems through a single

Puritan Citizen In The Scarlet Letter By Nathaniel Hawthorne
Throughout the novel The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne develops compelling characters that
are starkly different from the normal Puritan citizen. The novel mainly focuses on Hester, a Puritan
woman living in New England, and the story of her affair and how it affects her life and the lives of
those around her. Puritan citizens are illustrated as stern, dreary characters, but Hawthorne brings up
sin, love, and hate even in the characters who are seemingly the most rigid when it comes to Puritan
lifestyle. Chillingworth, Hester, and Pearl of the novel The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne
display complex character traits, including admiration, honesty, and loneliness. Hester s daughter,
Pearl, has distinct characteristics that make her a major character in this novel. In the text, Hawthorne
reveals that Pearl feels isolated from society, and has to go through any struggles in her life alone. The
singularity lay in the hostile feelings with which the child regarded ... Show more content on

works on Wall Street and lives a lavish lifestyle. Bateman appears to just be a regular rich, bachelor. If
you look deeper Bateman has a dark side as a cruel serial killer. The common themes presented
throughout the book are greed, obliviousness, and reality vs appearance. The author, Ellis presents the
themes by depicting Bateman s life as he goes out and lives two very different lives. Patrick Bateman
and his high class friends enjoy to live an extravagant life. They often wear all designer clothes and
live in expensive apartments; I am wearing a mini houndstooth check wool suit with pleated trousers

more; I m looking at Van Patten s card and then at mine and cannot believe that Price actually likes
Van Patten s better (Ellis 44). Bateman, who was having dinner with his friends, proudly displayed his
new business card when he felt one upped by Van Patten s business card. This took a hit to Bateman s
pride and he felt like he needed a nicer card than the rest of his friends. His constant desire to have the
best clothes, technology, and items shows how greedy he is. Throughout the novel many characters

Evaluating Kuhn´s Theory of Scientific Development Essay
Introduction
The scientific revolution started in the 16th and 17th century with development of the scientific
theories (Hatch, n.d.). These Scientific theories are detailed explanation of some aspect of the natural
world, based on knowledge that has been repeatedly duplicated through observation and experimental
procedures. The understanding or the attempt to understand the human s perspective of the world
through scientific theories is the birth to the philosophy of science (Okasha, 2002). Several
perspectives of scientific theories have been postulated by many on the history and philosophy of
science. One of such is the Kuhn theory of science development postulated by Thomas Kuhn. His
theory brought about a new perspective where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each paradigm starts as a normal science which goes through consensus verification by the science
community through scientific analysis, constructive criticism and scientific induction. Kuhn view is
clearly illustrated in his book the structure of scientific revolution. He traced the origin of his thesis to
a moment in 1947 when he was working toward a doctorate in physics at Harvard. James B. Conant,
the chemist who was the president of the university, had asked him to teach a class in science for
undergraduates majoring in the humanities (The Guardian, 2012). The lecture at the time was on the
history and development of science. While understudying Aristotle s Physics, he realized how his
concepts of motion were different from Newton s concepts of motion and matter.
Thomas Kuhn in his scientific model breaks down the history of development of science into three
stages which include normal of science, accumulation of anomaly and then the paradigm shift (Kuhn,
1996). The normal period of science starts with the creation of an accepted boundary for scientific
findings by the science community called the paradigm. This paradigm provides objective tools used
by scientist to solve scientific problem thereby creating theories that fit within the boundaries.
Following this is the period of natural testing of the paradigm and expanding the paradigm boundaries

The Complexities of the Pidgin and Creole Languages
As languages are unstable and continually developing, many languages are constantly being
established and becoming extinct. Humanity has a wide array of cultures, and each culture has its own
way of communicating. This may be through symbols, signs, sounds, and most importantly, words.
Language is an attribute that is unique to human beings. If one is not a speaker of the language being
spoken, communication becomes arduous. This has been proven when different cultures have come
across one another, and have tried to find ways to communicate in a comprehensible matter. This is
how Pidgin and Creole languages have evolved. The objective of this paper is to show that Pidgin and
Creole languages are very complex and compelling, and it is clear that new things are being
discovered about these languages at a continual rate. Subsequently, they are very adaptable to times of
change, which is likely an indication of its user both yesterday and presently.
The central question here is: how did Pidgin and Creole languages develop? Pidgins and Creole
languages are used in developing nations, which ensued in response to the changes in the political and
social environment of the community where they are spoken in. Today, over one hundred Pidgins and
Creoles are spoken around the world (Jourdan, 1991). Bickerton (1976) believes that most Pidgins and
Creoles are based on European languages, primarily on English, Spanish, and French. According to
Harris and Rampton (2002), Pidgins are often

Classifying and Treating a Fracture of a Bone
A fracture is a break or disruption in the continuity of the bone that often affects mobility and
sensation. It can occur anywhere in the body and at any age (Ignatavicius Workman, 2013, p. 1144).
All fractures follow the same mechanism and require similar care regardless of type or location.
(Ignatavicius Workman, 2013, p. 1144) A fracture is classified by the severity of the break being either
complete or incomplete fractures: A complete fracture is a break along the width of the bone resulting
in the bone being separated into two sections. An incomplete fracture is a fracture that does not result
in the separation of bone because the break is only partially through the bone. (Ignatavicius Workman,
2013, p. 1144) A closed (simple) fracture does not cause injury to the skin and, therefore, does not
have any noticeable wound. This type of fracture still needs to be managed by stabilization of the bone
and realignment if necessary. Open fractures are ones in which a portion of the bone breaks through
the skin or a wound penetrates through to a fractured bone (American Academy of Orthopedic
Surgeons, 2011). Open fractures frequently involve more damage to surrounding tendons, ligaments,
and muscles than in a closed fractures. They take a longer time to heal and are at increased risk for
complications (American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, 2011). Open fractures represent a range
of injury: first, the basic underlying problem of the fracture; second, the

Low Back Pain Essay
2.1 Low back pain:
2.1.1 Anatomy of the lower back
The lower back is made up of various structures which interlink with each other (12). Pain mostly
occurs in the Lumbar region which is medically referred to as L1 to L5. This region supports the
weight of the upper body (12). Between each vertebra are discs which act as shock absorbers, and
provide cushioning when the body moves. They are designed to have a soft nucleus pulposus, the
central part, and a firm outer ring, the annulus fibrosus (13). The central area is capable of rupturing
which could result in a herniated disc, while the outer ring can cause irritation of the adjacent nervous
tissue and possibly lead to sciatica (13). The vertebrae are held in place by ligaments made up of
strong fibrous tissue. Tendons also connect the muscles to the spinal column (12) (13).
According to Walter J. Koroshetz (2014), thirty one pairs of nerves are connected to the spinal cord.
They assist with controlling the movements of the body, provide sensation as well as stimulation to the
muscles of the lower back and lower extremities (13). All of these nerves exit the lumbar spinal
column through bony portals called the foramen (13). They are also responsible for signals transmitted

almost the entire length of the back, aids with stabilization and rotation of the lumbar spine. Secondly

neck and vertebral column extension. Thirdly, the Spinalis, is seen as a superficial muscle. It
originates as a thick tendon from the sacrum and continues up into the neck. With contraction, this
muscle extends the neck and vertebral column and assists in maintaining a good posture.

Borderline Personality Disorder And Personality Disorders
Borderline Personality Disorder
Emani J. Mills
Psychology of Personality
Catinia Farrington
INTRODUCTION
Personality disorders have been documented in approximately 9 percent of the general U.S. population
(Angstman, Rasmussen, 2011). Emotional dysregulation disorder or its common name borderline
personality disorder is a very serious and chronic disorder. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of
Mental Disorders Fourth Edition (DSM IV) describes borderline personality disorder as a pervasive
pattern of instability of interpersonal relationships, self image, and affects, and marked impulsivity
that begins by early adulthood and is present in a variety of contexts (Gardner, 2006). Within the last
20 years, psychologists and other mental health professionals have made tremendous strides in
research on what exactly borderline personality disorder, some of its triggers and possible effective
treatment options. Borderline personality disorder is defined as a disorder that generates severe
emotional instability which can be a springboard that can lead to other stress induced mental and
behavioral problems.
HOW IS BORDERLINE PERSONALITY DISORDER DIAGNOSED?
Personality disorders is an umbrella term. There are a variety of personality disorders, and each
disorder has its own unique identifier that makes them different from other personality disorders.

Political Parties And The Uk
What is the purpose of political parties in the UK?
The purpose of political parties in the UK is to ensure political choice for example choosing different
leaders, ideas and policies. Another purpose that political parties in the UK attempt to ensure that will
be covered during this essay is political participation as parties are a way to be involved in the process
without other than voting. Parties also have a similar recruitment to that of the PM this means that
parties are like training roles. Parties also have several functions in the UK such as a direct channel of
communication between leaders and supporters this purpose is very valuable when party leaders
attempt to get views and policies across. They also provide accountability because they show who is
in charge of the parties this helps the voters and supporters understand who is in control. I will look
into these points as a way to show the purpose of political parties and look to further on these points in
detail and describe in depth.
A main purpose of political parties in the UK is political choice which means that political parties
enforce the ability to choose between various leaders, ideas and policies. This is in turn influences the
backbone of the political parties and therefore shapes the future of them without political choice
parties would be run not by the people the public want but by people placed into these roles. This in
turn without choice would mean the public might be against the people in

Social Exclusion In The Fever Van
Social workers engage with some of the most vulnerable demographics in the population in order to
facilitate change, development, and empowerment (AASW, 2010). Consequently, themes such as
illness, adversity, grief, and resilience are all topics explored extensively within the domain (Rosen
Zeira, 2000). These themes evident in The Fever Van are encountered, better understood, and
mediated through the use of research based theories. Using such theories, the aforementioned themes
will be explored through the lens of The Fever Van.
When engaging in social work it is of the utmost importance that practitioners enlist the use of
sensitivity and inclusive practice when addressing vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals
(Chenoweth McAuliffe, 2012). Social exclusion and marginalisation are factors that serve to
disempower and isolate people. An individual can suffer social exclusion as a result of several
different factors such as gender, race, or religion. This identified difference fosters power dynamics
which operate against the rights of those who are othered (Chenoweth McAuliffe, 2012). In the case of
The Fever Van, the social exclusion at risk of occurring is due to the illness of the child and the
perceived contamination of the family. The assumptions made about those involved contributes to
ostracization and inequality between groups. It furthermore results in responses such as prejudice and
discrimination (Lum, 2007). Disengagement with the family of a child who was sick was common and
those who earned a living through food were often forced out of business. When engaging with
circumstances such as this, it is integral to employ cultural competency, whereby the practitioner
recognises the value and strengths of the individual in question. Reflective practice is also important
as it allows social workers to analyse their own assumptions and beliefs regarding the issue (Mullaly,
2007). Perceived differences and social exclusion are rampant throughout social work history. Another
example of this can be seen in the former British migrant children (Irizarry Kleanthi, 2004). These
girls were ostracised and discriminated against due to their English roots. However, through the use of
sensitivity,

Enterotoxins Essay
Toxins are poisons produced by living organisms. Epidemics of staphylococcal food poisoning are
very common across the world. But, there is hardly any report of SFP from the Indian subcontinent.
An outbreak occurred in Indian country, the Madhya Pradesh s state after the ingestion of a snack that
made up with potato balls fried in vegetable oil, called Bhalla . More than 100 children and adults who
ate the snack suffered from the normal side effects of SFP and required hospitalization. From the
clinical sample of food, there were found a large number of enterotoxigenic Staphylococcus aureus

Social Responsibility Of KLM And Northwest Airlines
In 1967, KLM had moved their airport to Schiphol, Netherlands with improvements to the length of
the runway and the airport infrastructure. The 1970 s introduced the new generation aircrafts called
wide bodies. KLM found this as an opportunity to increase their transportation services by purchasing
the new Boeing 707. This aircraft has the capability to fit over 500 passengers. This aircraft was the
start of mass transportation for KLM as they are able to fly more passengers than before. In 1989, for
the first time in the history of air transport, an alliance was reached: KLM and the US carrier
Northwest Airlines merged to offer their customers convenient access to both their networks. A first
open skies agreement was reached in 1991 between the Netherlands and the United States, allowing
for all KLM and Northwest Airlines flights between Europe and the United States to be operated on a
joint venture basis starting in 1993 (History, n.d.). After that, KLM began mergers with other airlines
such as NLM Cityhopper and Netherlines for domestic and international routes.

Being a corporation comes responsibility, social to be exact. KLM s corporate social responsibility, or
CSR for short, is a set standard of an integrated approach in the airline sector. The CSR policy is
directed at customers, employees and society (Company Profile, 2015). Not only did KLM earn their
tenth top position of Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes for airlines, but also, sector leader in the
umbrella category Transport. KLM s merge with Air France only made the company stronger as they
work together to keep the values of an honest carrier alive. They care about the quality and innovation
of their service. KLM listens customers and other carriers ideas as they have more an outlook of the
company as they view in a different

Sollux s Short Story
Sollux was also a demon; a yellow eyed demon, to be specific. That always amused the Captor
though, due to the fact that his eyes were not yellow; but red and blue. There was an absense of pupils
and irises, giving him an almost blind look, but the electricity that ran in his eyeballs gave away the
fact that he was a demon. No matter, though. Anyone who would be able to tell that Sollux was a
demon would almost immedietly die of internal bleeding. Due to the yellow eyed demon, of course.
Causing internal bleeding with merely a snap of the fingers wasn t his only power though, oh no. If
you thought that, you are beyond wrong. He can make and manipulate flame, electricity (which in
fact, emits from his eyes) and wind. Possessing humans was also a part of the list of powers that he
containes, along with manipulating deams in order to communicate with people and teleportation. ...

Even though he wasn t human, many assumed so due to his appearence. Short raven hair, dimmed red
and blue glasses (one wouldn t really be able to see through them, but due to the color, when
attempting to use electricity it will shoot right through), and light skin. His human form was thin,
almost sick looking. Sollux liked it like that, it brought on different demons, demons in which he
could pull into his army. I must have forgotten to mention, that he was one of the Generals off Hell,
commanding a demon army. He didn t bring them around, though. They were just there to wipe out
humanity in the time for the apoocolypse. It wasn t all the time that he wanted someone for his army,
just some times. A lot of the time though, he d just want their powers. To absorb them like a sponge.
Become even more powerful than he already is. And that s why he was out at some old town

Marxist Analysis On Class Conflict In Lord Of The Flies
A Marxist Analysis on Class Conflict in Lord of the Flies
The Ideology of Golding refers to the Cold War conflict between the Open minded Democracy in his
presentation of Ralph whereas Jack is the authoritarian communism. Based on Dobie, Ann Brewster s
Wadsworth Cengage Learning, 2008 we know that Marxists do not see any literary works as an
appealing article but as products of the socioeconomic aspects. Similarly Lord of the Flies
authenticates a Marxist principle explained by the Class Conflict in the boys attempts of civilization
and decentralization. Regardless of the boys imitation of the social group that they think would reflect
the adult world believably it turned into barbarity and bloodstained violence.
Marxism is as always quoted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even if he is described as awkward, chubby and averse to physical activities due to his asthma, Piggy
is the most meticulous, sensitive and the intellectualist of the island. It is his intellectual talent which
makes him appealing to Ralph, eventually Ralph comes to admire and respect Piggy and makes him
the Brain Trust of group. Piggy is devoted to the ideal of civilization and consistently warning the
other boys for behaving as barbarians.
On the contrary, is the personality of Jack, He demonstrates Militarism as it borders on
Totalitarianism. He is cruel and preoccupied with hunting and slaying pigs. His sadism builds up
during the course of the novel, and he eventually turns cruelly on the other boys; He fakes an interest
in the rules established on the island by Ralph, but only if they allow him to impose punishment. He
best represents mobocracy which is proved later by the rejection of Ralph s enforced order. The results
of this act indicate the dangers inherent in an anarchistic system based only on

  • 2. Clyfford Still Museum Case Study Introduction This document breaks down some of the financial information that was accessible for the Clyfford Still Museum. Much of this information was gathered during an interview conducted at the beginning of the year for another assignment, however it was incredibly applicable here for this assignment as well. This document also briefly touches on the museum expenses as well as its attempt at and donation solicitation. Finances The Clyfford Still is a unique organization in many ways. It is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and generally operates like a normal 501(c)(3), asides from the security provided by the Clyfford Still Museum Foundation. The Clyfford Still Museum Foundation is also classified as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. This governing body has its own board of directors separate from the board of the museum itself. According to the museum s Director of Marketing John Eding, the idea of a separate organization managing the endowment has allowed the Clyfford Still Museum to always operate without a deficit (Eding 2018). This organization for this cultural is reminiscent of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, even without that data it can be said with relative confidence that the Clyfford Still Museum Foundation is by far the largest contributor to the organization. Even if 100% of the $720,000 earned through gifts to museum between January and October was patron generated, 69.44% of The Clyfford Still Museum s revenue would still be non patron generated (Eding 2018). As noted in The Week 5 presentation, an endowment can be the vital life line supporting an organization. That is certainly the case for the Clyfford Still Museum, which wouldn t be able to function without the tremendous support of the Clyfford Still Museum ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Work Of Belbin And My Personal Experiences The work of Belbin and my personal experiences The Financial Post (2015) stated teamwork is key to success; this is true in the context of building careers as at some point you will have to work in a team, which is sometimes challenging. Steve Jobs also believed in the importance of teamwork Great things in business are never done by one person they re done by a team of people. (BusinessNewsDaily, 2013). There are many different aspects of teamwork for example; skills, team conflict and group size. This essay reflects on my personal experiences of working in a team. First I will talk about the literature of Belbin, describing key elements about teamwork. Then I will assess how accurately the literature reflects my experiences of teamwork. Lastly, I will look at what I have learned from the experience, by putting the literature and my experiences into context. I have various experiences in team projects, which I will be relating to the project that I recently took part in regarding leadership. Belbin s 1993 book concludes that an effective team has members covering all 9 key roles. It is beneficial to have a dynamic team that contributes a wide range of skills, whereby people will be appointed on the basis of their functional roles as and when their skills would be needed (Belbin, 1993). Managing team conflict is also important as Belbin, (2002) argues that if a team were to reach mutual grounds on each member s goals prior to starting tasks this would ensure the ... • 4. Men and Women Were Created Equ Essay By: Robert E mail: an@cancom.net Men and Women were Created Equal Men are not superior to women, they are equal in every way. Although it is true that society has stereotyped women into traditional roles, this preconceived notion, is totally false. Action to promote the concept of equality in our society needs to be taken. Women have been fighting for equality for many decades. As a result of this battle, some amazing transformations have taken place amongst the female gender. Women have become educated and over the last few decades have started to take active roles and their rightful place in society. They have made major inroads in working opportunities, including government, science and even the military. This monumental step allows women to become takers, as well as producers of life. Women now have equal rights and responsibilities in the defense of our country. These advances have been made, not only on the ground but in the air as well. In 1988, Deanna Brasseur became Canada s first female fighter pilot. That same year, the defense department appointed their first female general, Sheila Hellstrom. The department also stated that women often do better at riflery than men due to the fact that they listen to instruction while men tend to think they know it all. A male veteran sergeant, proud of his work with female recruits, says that: Today s women won t find anything that hard to adjust to in the military. The facts are telling a tale. Many doors are opening for women and they are barreling through with boundless energy and determination. The 21st century is here and the traditional role of the stay at home mother is all but disappeared. Marriage and children are still signs of the successful women, however women are less willing to accept exclusive roles of housewife and mother. More and more women are entering the labor market as education has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Regression Test For Root Units And ADF regression tests help to root units in YT, which is the logarithm of the number of the patient s blood, which takes a year of ratios of iron deposited in the body doses,T denotes the deterministic time trend and ∆Yt i is the lagged first differences to accommodate aserial correlation in the error, μ t. While, ∝, δ, β, and θ are the parameters to be estimated. Meanwhile, the Phillips Peron (PP) test is shown by the equation below: ∆ Yt=μ+pYt 1 +εt (2) The PP test is used because it will make a correction to the t statistics of the coefficient from the AR (1) regression to account for the serial correlation. The PP test is a test of the hypothesis P=1 in the equation 2. But, unlike the ADF test, there are no lagged difference terms. Instead, the equation is estimated by OLS and then the t statistics of the P coefficient is corrected for serial correlation in εt. Yank as a Modern Day Oedipus in O Neill s Play, The Hairy Ape The representation of tragedy today has adapted itself to more humanistic, base and symbolic concerns. Often, they are commentaries on society just as much as they are on the nature of man. Although O Neill insists that his play The Hairy Ape is not a tragedy, but rather a dark comedy, the play follows the definition of a tragedy. The basic points that make up a tragedy still remain the same, even if they have to be slightly modified to be relevant to today s audience. Despite this, The Hairy Ape bears a striking resemblance to the quintessential Greek tragedy, Oedipus Rex. Tink I wanter let her put somep n over on me? Tink I m gonna let her git away wit that stuff? This is one of the most telling sections of the play. Long is the voice of reason. He recognizes the concept of law and weighs decisions inside the context of such. Long sees his life as more important than Mildred and her actions are. Yank however, does not merely want revenge on Mildred. For Yank, the only important thing is his sense of self respect. He isn t going to let her put somep n over me. Ironically, Long s declaration that Yank would be anged or lectrocuted is only half true. Yank does indeed die at the end of his search to reclaim his dignity and identity, but in accordance with his final realization that he is merely a brute, animalistic being, he is killed by and as such. Oedipus may literally be of noble stature, but Yank is noble in a psychological sense. Yank sees himself in a lofty and admirable position this is his sense of self. This self pride is Yank s equivalent of Oedipus noble status. Cash Flow and Growth Rate Week 8 Case Study JetBlue Man Hon Chan 22002960 Introduction An initial public offering (IPO) refers to the initial stage of shares offering to the public market for subscriptions by a company to raise capital for the purpose of expansion. It is considered as a big issue for companies as an IPO does not necessary guarantee the success of a company as it is merely a tool of raising capital while its costs of issuance and consecutive monitoring costs (due to diluted shareholdings of the company by public investors) are relatively higher than the cost of issuing corporate debt. In FCFE approach, the required rate of return by shareholders is required and can be calculated using the CAPM model, which the information showed that the risk free rate (derived from yield from treasury notes) and the estimated market risk premium are 5%, the beta implemented in the CAPM model cannot be directly obtained since JetBlue has never been listed before hence a medium has to be used which the Southwest beta of 1.6 is chosen given the characteristics and nature of the two companies are similar hence is expected to be affected by similar systematic risk. The calculated required rate of return therefore would be 5%+1.6(5%)=14%. In contrast, in the FCFF approach, a weighted cost of capital (WACC) is required to use, which can be determined as the percentage of debt to equity multiply by the cost of debt plus one minus the percentage of debt to equity multiply by the cost of capital, or the required rate of return. The percentage of debt to equity is derived from the balance sheet of JetBlue as 99%. The cost of debt can only be indirectly obtained from the current debt structure of Southwest Airlines, the 7.375 debenture (with yield to maturity of 8.68%) is chosen given it is a long term debt and to remain conservative. Porter described the position as a situation whether sustainable or not as a point whereby earnings exceed costs. • 13. Powerful Discourses Regarding Women s Bodies Throughout history, women and their bodies have been portrayed in numerous different forms. Some argue that the weak female body was prone to madness and hysteria, while others praise its purity and ability to nurse children. Edward Jorden s A Briefe Discourse of a Disease called the Suffocation of the Mother, printed in 1603, is a prime example of the former argument. Jorden contends that women are more liable to fall under the control of supernatural powers and evil spirits. On the other hand, Elizabeth Clinton asserts through her publication, From the Countess of Lincoln s Nursery, that a woman should be valued due to the significant benefits of a mother nursing her own child. These discourses of the female body continued to conflict and show themselves in numerous pieces of literature, undeniably influencing our culture substantially. Concerns about the sovereign s gender formed one of the primary social considerations of this period. As both of these documents were published directly after the end of Queen Elizabeth s reign in 1603, one might expect to see these gender considerations revealed in the works produced during this time. Although Elizabeth s regime brought much prosperity and order to England, some English subjects still desired for a return to state stability through a solidification of the patriarchal system. They believed there to be the danger in women s involvement in politics at the sovereign level due to the weakness of the female body. However, there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The dc/dc power converter integrates a dc dc boost converter and a transformer to convert the output voltage of the solar cell array into two independent voltage sources with multiple relationships. This new seven level inverter is configured using a capacitor selection circuit and a full bridge power converter, connected in cascade. The capacitor selection circuit converts the two output voltage sources of dc dc power converter into a three level dc voltage, and the full bridge power converter further converts this three level dc voltage into a seven level ac voltage. In this way, the proposed solar power generation system generates a sinusoidal output current that is in phase with the utility voltage and is fed into the utility. They often wear all designer clothes and live in expensive apartments; I am wearing a mini houndstooth check wool suit with pleated trousers by Hugo Boss, a silk tie, also by Hugo Boss, a cotton broadcloth shirt by Joseph Abboud and shoes from Brooks Brothers (Ellis 64). Even with all that Bateman owns, he continues to seek more and more; I m looking at Van Patten s card and then at mine and cannot believe that Price actually likes Van Patten s better (Ellis 44). Bateman, who was having dinner with his friends, proudly displayed his new business card when he felt one upped by Van Patten s business card. This took a hit to Bateman s pride and he felt like he needed a nicer card than the rest of his friends. His constant desire to have the best clothes, technology, and items shows how greedy he is. • 26. Evaluating Kuhn´s Theory of Scientific Development Essay Introduction The scientific revolution started in the 16th and 17th century with development of the scientific theories (Hatch, n.d.). These Scientific theories are detailed explanation of some aspect of the natural world, based on knowledge that has been repeatedly duplicated through observation and experimental procedures. The understanding or the attempt to understand the human s perspective of the world through scientific theories is the birth to the philosophy of science (Okasha, 2002). Each paradigm starts as a normal science which goes through consensus verification by the science community through scientific analysis, constructive criticism and scientific induction. Kuhn view is clearly illustrated in his book the structure of scientific revolution. He traced the origin of his thesis to a moment in 1947 when he was working toward a doctorate in physics at Harvard. James B. Conant, the chemist who was the president of the university, had asked him to teach a class in science for undergraduates majoring in the humanities (The Guardian, 2012). The lecture at the time was on the history and development of science. While understudying Aristotle s Physics, he realized how his concepts of motion were different from Newton s concepts of motion and matter. Thomas Kuhn in his scientific model breaks down the history of development of science into three stages which include normal of science, accumulation of anomaly and then the paradigm shift (Kuhn, 1996). The normal period of science starts with the creation of an accepted boundary for scientific findings by the science community called the paradigm. This paradigm provides objective tools used by scientist to solve scientific problem thereby creating theories that fit within the boundaries. Following this is the period of natural testing of the paradigm and expanding the paradigm boundaries to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. The Complexities of the Pidgin and Creole Languages As languages are unstable and continually developing, many languages are constantly being established and becoming extinct. Humanity has a wide array of cultures, and each culture has its own way of communicating. This may be through symbols, signs, sounds, and most importantly, words. Language is an attribute that is unique to human beings. If one is not a speaker of the language being spoken, communication becomes arduous. This has been proven when different cultures have come across one another, and have tried to find ways to communicate in a comprehensible matter. This is how Pidgin and Creole languages have evolved. The objective of this paper is to show that Pidgin and Creole languages are very complex and compelling, and it is clear that new things are being discovered about these languages at a continual rate. Subsequently, they are very adaptable to times of change, which is likely an indication of its user both yesterday and presently. The central question here is: how did Pidgin and Creole languages develop? Pidgins and Creole languages are used in developing nations, which ensued in response to the changes in the political and social environment of the community where they are spoken in. Today, over one hundred Pidgins and Creoles are spoken around the world (Jourdan, 1991). It can occur anywhere in the body and at any age (Ignatavicius Workman, 2013, p. 1144). All fractures follow the same mechanism and require similar care regardless of type or location. (Ignatavicius Workman, 2013, p. 1144) A fracture is classified by the severity of the break being either complete or incomplete fractures: A complete fracture is a break along the width of the bone resulting in the bone being separated into two sections. An incomplete fracture is a fracture that does not result in the separation of bone because the break is only partially through the bone. (Ignatavicius Workman, 2013, p. 1144) A closed (simple) fracture does not cause injury to the skin and, therefore, does not have any noticeable wound. This type of fracture still needs to be managed by stabilization of the bone and realignment if necessary. Open fractures are ones in which a portion of the bone breaks through the skin or a wound penetrates through to a fractured bone (American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, 2011). Open fractures frequently involve more damage to surrounding tendons, ligaments, and muscles than in a closed fractures. They take a longer time to heal and are at increased risk for complications (American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, 2011). • 32. Low Back Pain Essay 2.1 Low back pain: 2.1.1 Anatomy of the lower back The lower back is made up of various structures which interlink with each other (12). Pain mostly occurs in the Lumbar region which is medically referred to as L1 to L5. This region supports the weight of the upper body (12). Between each vertebra are discs which act as shock absorbers, and provide cushioning when the body moves. They are designed to have a soft nucleus pulposus, the central part, and a firm outer ring, the annulus fibrosus (13). The central area is capable of rupturing which could result in a herniated disc, while the outer ring can cause irritation of the adjacent nervous tissue and possibly lead to sciatica (13). The vertebrae are held in place by ligaments made up of strong fibrous tissue. Tendons also connect the muscles to the spinal column (12) (13). According to Walter J. Koroshetz (2014), thirty one pairs of nerves are connected to the spinal cord. • 37. Social Exclusion In The Fever Van Social workers engage with some of the most vulnerable demographics in the population in order to facilitate change, development, and empowerment (AASW, 2010). Consequently, themes such as illness, adversity, grief, and resilience are all topics explored extensively within the domain (Rosen Zeira, 2000). These themes evident in The Fever Van are encountered, better understood, and mediated through the use of research based theories. Using such theories, the aforementioned themes will be explored through the lens of The Fever Van. When engaging in social work it is of the utmost importance that practitioners enlist the use of sensitivity and inclusive practice when addressing vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals (Chenoweth McAuliffe, 2012). Social exclusion and marginalisation are factors that serve to disempower and isolate people. An individual can suffer social exclusion as a result of several different factors such as gender, race, or religion. This identified difference fosters power dynamics which operate against the rights of those who are othered (Chenoweth McAuliffe, 2012). In the case of The Fever Van, the social exclusion at risk of occurring is due to the illness of the child and the perceived contamination of the family. The assumptions made about those involved contributes to ostracization and inequality between groups. It furthermore results in responses such as prejudice and discrimination (Lum, 2007). Disengagement with the family of a child who was sick was common and those who earned a living through food were often forced out of business. When engaging with circumstances such as this, it is integral to employ cultural competency, whereby the practitioner recognises the value and strengths of the individual in question. Reflective practice is also important as it allows social workers to analyse their own assumptions and beliefs regarding the issue (Mullaly, 2007). Perceived differences and social exclusion are rampant throughout social work history. Another example of this can be seen in the former British migrant children (Irizarry Kleanthi, 2004). These girls were ostracised and discriminated against due to their English roots. However, through the use of sensitivity, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
