Determining The Function Of The Ordinal Scale
Before conducting a statistical analysis, every researcher needs to measure the depended variable. The
measurement depends on the type of variable. Different types are measured differently. So, the
researcher has to decide on the appropriate scale of measurement. There are typically four levels of
measurement: nominal, ordinal, interval, and ratio.
1. The purpose of the nominal scale is for identification and represents the lowest level of
measurement. With a nominal scale, the researcher only names or categorizes responses (i.e.
male/female, high/low, unemployed, employed, retired, student). Thus, nominal scale measures
variables that are non numeric or where the numbers have no value.
2. The purpose of the ordinal scale is to allow comparisons of the degree to which two subjects
possess the dependent variable. The ordinal scale provides a rank order (i.e. very dissatisfied,
somewhat dissatisfied, somewhat satisfied, or very satisfied). However, it is the order of the values
that is important, not the differences between them. Ordinal scales usually measures non numeric
variables like satisfaction, happiness, discomfort, etc
3. The Interval scale provides information about both the rank order and the exact differences between
the values (i.e. pain scale). However, interval scales do not have a true zero point.
4. The Ratio scale (i.e. height and weight) is the most informative scale because it tells the researcher
about order, the exact value between units, and has a

Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho ( Staring Janet Leigh And...
Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho (staring Janet Leigh and Anthony Perkins) is one of the most influential
films in motion picture history. Hitchcock uses cinematography, dialogue, costumes and lighting, as
well as many other film techniques to thrill the audience and keep them on the edge of their seats from
the beginning of the film to the very end. The scenes we have just viewed are a typical example of
Hitchcock s great ability to tell a story in a horrific way and haunt the viewers for a long time after
their experience with the thrilling movie. He is able to get into the audience s minds and scare them
into never wanting to have another shower again. Psycho contains many symbols and techniques that
pushed the limit of acceptable filmmaking in the 1960 s. The film centers on the encounter between a
secretary, Marion Crane (Leigh), who ends up at a secluded motel after embezzling money from her
employer, and the motel s disturbed owner manager, Norman Bates (Perkins), and its aftermath. When
originally made, the film was seen as a departure from Hitchcock s previous film North by Northwest,
having been filmed on a low budget, with a television crew and in black and white. Psycho initially
received mixed reviews, but outstanding box office returns prompted reconsideration which led to
overwhelming critical acclaim and four Academy Award nominations, including Best Supporting
Actress for Leigh and Best Director for Hitchcock. It is one of Hitchcock s best films today.

Allan Grey
Allan Grey JQ Excelsior Williams A Streetcar Named Desire and Kazan s film adaptation shared not
only the same characters, but also the same themes, reactions and other literary techniques Williams
had created throughout his play. However, for Elia Kazan to have produced the film, some scenes
were eliminated or changed to fit what was known as the Hay s Code. One of the scenes that was not
so much vital to the play, was when Blanche DuBois explains to Mitch about her ex husband. Allan
Grey, Blanche s ex husband, was found in bed with another man and by no other than his wife,
Blanche herself. In the play both Blanche and Allan pretended that nothing happened after that night.
Allan was probably being tortured and was already ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So this would not be so surprising as Blanche hides almost everything about herself. While talking to
Mitch, she instead says, At night I pretended to sleep, and I heard him crying, whereas in the play she
talks about the discovery of Allan s homosexuality. But for those of age or rather those who could
understand and knew about sexuality in depth, they could pin point what Blanche meant by lost all
respect for him . Allan s homosexuality was one of the demands that had to be met. Homosexuality
was most likely a taboo subject that people would not bring up, but producers had to find out what
was okay and what was not okay to put in films. There was no official censorship to undergo of any
movie being released at the time of Kazan s film adaptation. However, the producers had volunteered
for investigation by the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) and CLD (Catholic Legion of
Decency). CLD however strictly forbid showing such content like Allan s sexual preference in action.
MPAA had been known as the Hays Office. The name Hays comes from the first president of the
office in 1922. When a couple years later, J. Breen was president (1934), he had enforced demands
that prohibited sexual, violent, and swearword actions. After several cuts to the film to maintain a
positive and high audience, eventually demands were met and the film was accepted. Even though this

Q1:Why is reproduction essential for organisms?
Reproduction is a fundamental feature of all living organisms. It is a biological process through which
living organisms produce offspring s similar to them. Reproduction ensures the continuance of various
species on the Earth. In the absence of reproduction, the species will not be able to exist for a long
time and may soon get extinct.
Q2:Which is a better mode of reproduction sexual or asexual? Why?
Sexual reproduction is a better mode of reproduction. It allows the formation of new variants by the
combination of the DNA from two different individuals, typically one of each sex. It involves the

Analysis Of The Brain Is Wider Then The Sky
The poem The Brain is Wider Then the Sky by Emily Dickinson, written in 1862. Emily Dickinson
was a woman who never married. She lived with her parents in Amherst Massachusetts. Emily
believed in feminist. She came from a very church going family but as she got older she stopped going
to church. She was a very smart woman. She attended college at Amherst Academy. Her father was
the founder of Amherst Academy, which today is called Amherst College. Amherst college is still a
well know college in Massachusetts. Emily Dickinson started a book club involving multiple friends,
as well as her loving attentiveness to individuals in times of both suffering and joy. These inquiries
highlight her thoughts on love, marriage, gender roles, art, and death, while unraveling mysteries
ranging from legal discourse to Etruscan smiles. In addition to a foreword by Marietta Messmer, the
volume includes essays by Paul Crumbley, Karen Dandurand, Jane Donahue Eberwein, Judith Farr,
James Guthrie, Ellen Louise Hart, Eleanor Heginbotham, Cindy MacKenzie, Martha Nell Smith, and
Stephanie Tingley. One of Emily s favorite books was the bible. She referred back to the bible in a lot
of her work. The poem The Brain is Wider Then the Sky can be interpreted in many different ways. If
you have knowledge of Emily Dickinson back round you may interpret it differently than others who
do not know much about her life and upbringing. This poem is a four line stanza, most of her work

What Is The Essence Of Christian Worldview
When it comes to defining what is the true essence of the Christian worldview, it must be noted that
there is not a single point of which serves as the essence but rather the essence of Christianity comes
from many of its key points. The first point that serves as part of the foundation that creates the
essence of the Christian worldview would be the belief in God s existence. This may seem quite
obvious since one of the key tenets of any theistic worldview is the belief a higher power but this
should not be overlooked since it is an extremely vital part. Such a belief in a higher power is
extremely important since it creates a worldview that is extremely different from those within the
Atheistic family. This is because the assumption that

Does Karl Popper Use Inductive Claims To Make A Universal...
In this piece, Karl Popper articulates a common fallacy that occurs when people begin to discuss the
use of inductive logic to reach an end. Popper defines the problem of induction as that which we can
question whether inductive inferences are acceptable as a means to an end. In other words, it questions
the ability to use inductive claims to make a universal statement. Inductive claims are those that
Popper describes as those that are based off of experiences. Popper deduces that in order for us to
make a universal claim from experiences, he must first establish a principle of induction. This
principal of induction as Popper defines would allow us to justify using inductive statements in a
logically valid and precise form. Popper notes that

My Last Duchess By Robert Browning And The Rape Of The Lock
My Last Duchess by Robert Browning and The Rape of the lock by Alexander Pope are two poems
that convey a theme of love and objectification towards women. For instance, both poems are similar
in their use imagery and metaphors to grasp their audience attention. For example, in My last duchess
the author shows the wife in the poem as an item controlled by her husband and uses his love for her
as an excuse to abuse his power. Her life is ruled by him and she would have to deal with his insane
jealousy because his obsessiveness is dominating his reality of his relationship . In this poem the male
role has many characteristics one of them being paranoid and not helping him reflect on reality by him
owning shrine of items that belonged to all his earlier wife s. His late wife is shown as a piece of
imagery where she is kept on a wall trapped not able to leave his sight or be allowed interact with
others. (Browning,1 2) In The Rape of the Lock the poem starts off with Belinda, the main character, in
a dream sent to her by her guardian Sylph. The dream sends a message to Belinda that she must be
careful with all men in her life once she has received the message she awakens to a love letter at her
sight and forgets the dream in its entirety. Throughout the course of the poem Belinda s Sylphs are
required to protect her chastity and help her contain her purity.. The man in her life is using her as an
item and not as a human being.Pope encourages these characteristics

because the arms were beside the body so that the hands were free to get out the water from the hair

As the mixture was heated, it began to boil steadily. Also two separate layers were gradually formed

Delusional Parasitosis Case Study
Title: Cultural influences in the development of delusional parasitosis: a case Series
Abstract: Delusional parasitosis is an uncommon psychiatric condition which is characterized by a
false and fixed belief of being infested by parasites. It is a delusional disorder of the somatic type,
wherein the central theme involves bodily functions or sensations. It is the most common form of a
monosymptomatic hypochondrical delusional disorder. The delusion here is usually considered to be
primary; however it is sometimes described as an elaboration of a primary hallucinatory experience,
paresthesia or pruritus. Although several cases of delusional parasitosis have been reported, the role of

In all 8 patients, physical illnesses and cognitive difficulties that could contribute to parasitosis were
systematically ruled out by careful clinical examination and appropriate laboratory investigations.
Primary psychiatric diagnoses such as schizophrenia and major depressive disorder were excluded.
They were assigned a clinical diagnosis of delusional disorder in accord with the ICD 10 diagnostic
criteria.
Out of the eight patients, 5 were females and 3 were males. The mean age of the patients was 58 years,
the youngest being a 33year old male and the eldest a 73 year old female. 7 of the 8 patients were
Hindu by faith and one patient was Muslim. All patients belonged to a lower socio economic class
with a maximal educational qualification of 10th standard. In all cases the mode of development of the
delusion was acute and the patients had no prior psychiatric diagnosis. All patients had visited faith
healers prior to seeking psychiatric care at our department. 3 patients were referred from the
department of dermatology, 2 were referred from the department of general medicine and 2 from the
otorhinolaryngology department. One patient presented directly to the department of psychiatry. 3
patients reported the infestation began from the ears whereas two believed the scalp was the initial site
of involvement. The vaginal orifice, a small cut on the skin

will describe key elements of Psychodynamic theory, Person Centred theory and Cognitive
Behavioural theory. I will also identify the key differences between the above theories. I shall also
describe how counselling theory underpins the use of counselling skills in practise. I will then end
with my conclusion. 1.1 Key elements of psychodynamic theory Dr Sigmud Freud (1856 1939), is the
founder of the psychodynamic approach. Dr Sigmud Freud believed that childhood experiences and
unconscious thoughts had an effect on people s behaviour. Psychodynamic counselling refers to the

Cognitive behavioural theory (CBT) is a kind of psychotherapeutic treatment that enables patients to
comprehend the thoughts and feelings that control their behaviours. Cognitive behavioural therapy is
more frequently used to treat an extensive range of disorders such as depression and anxiety.
Cognitive behavioural therapy is widely short term and concentrates on enabling clients to deal with
very particular problems. Often six weeks to six months sessions of course depending upon the
problem it is pacifically goal directed and places great weight upon self help as a long term coping
tool that the client can take away with them and successfully use. Cognitive behavioural therapy
believes that clients can learn the wrong ways of developing and making sense of information during
their cognitive development. This can often lead to distortions in the way they identify reality, it s the
job of the therapist to enable them to work this out. According to Dryden, 2007, p.299 Cognitive
therapy first came to the attention of British psychologists and psychiatrists through the pioneering
work of the British researchers who sought to evaluate the efficacy of Beck s treatment for depression.
Cognitive behavioural theory can be used on a one to one basis or in a group setting. It is said that in
order for cognitive behavioural therapy to be effective, the client

Affirmative Action and Hosea Martin Essay
Affirmative Action and Hosea Martin
Hosea Martin s article on affirmative action aims to defend the practice of hiring
people not just on their qualifications but by their race as well. He does so by using his
own experience in the work place along with some personal, unsupported opinions of his
own regarding hiring practices and education. Martin also attempts to defend affirmative
action programs as being fair and non discriminatory by emphasizing that every single
one of us...had been hired for reasons beyond our being able to do our jobs. (Martin qtd.
in Hicks, 219).
Martin begins by trying to explain how no one is actually hired on their
qualifications in this meritocracy . Everyone has an unfair ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He asserted that the officer did not receive a job on the
basis of his qualifications but on the fact that he belonged to a certain fraternity. The
implication here is that there was something wrong or even laughable about hiring him
because ...he was a member of Phi something fraternity. (220). Many people join
fraternities and sororities not to engage in keg parties every Friday night, but to be able to
network after graduating from college. There are also many fraternities that are
academically based such a Phi Theta Kappa here at BCC, of which I am a member.
Organizations such as this look good on a transcript and sometimes are even the deciding
factor in admission to graduate school. To compare a persons race or circumstance of
birth to being an active and voluntary member of an organization is patently absurd.
Using this experience as a premise for argument is even more so.
Lastly, Martin touches on the subject of education. In his article he presents only
one statistic,~ the percentage of minorities enrolled in medical school in 1980 (10%) as
compared to 1960 (5%). These statistics do not however show the percentage of those
who actually graduate. It is a proven fact that students who are not properly prepared for
postsecondary education and are admitted on the basis of race or gender do not fare as
well as truly qualified white students. Robert M. O Neil,

Pros And Cons Of Plastic Water Bottles
United States is the leading country on a global scale that produces and consumes millions of gallons
of water annually. Oil, a limited and expensive resource, is used in the process of creating
polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic water bottles which is generally regarded as a safe and
recyclable packaging material. (Palliser, 2010) The process of manufacturing bottled water to meet the
United States demand uses more than 17 million barrels of oil annually. (Ban the Bottle, 2014) The
following examples will help to visualize how much of valuable, natural resources are used: in a year,
the energy used to produce bottled water is enough to power 190,000 homes and the millions of
barrels of oil used is enough to fuel 1.3 million cars. (Ban ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to a four year, detailed investigation to evaluate the quality and safety of bottled water
conducted by an environmental advocacy group, the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC),
traces of various chemicals (THMs such as chloroform and BDCM, both probable human

bottles is antimony that is harmless in small doses but in larger doses can cause nausea, vomiting, and
death. (Ban the Bottle, 2014) A senior scientist at the NRDC, Dr. Gina Solomon told The New York
Times that there is no reason to believe that bottled water is safer than tap water. (Ban the Bottle,

Difference Between Absolute Advantage And Comparative...
1. Explain Opportunity Cost and provide an example. (5 points) Opportunity cost can be defined as a
high valued alternative that must be given up in order to achieve or obtain something else. In other
words, for anything you decide to spend your time doing results in sacrificing the opportunity to
engage in doing something else. The value of the sacrificed alternative can only be determined by the
individual that is choosing to sacrifice it. There are numerous examples of opportunity cost
surrounding us throughout every day. Personally, I face opportunity cost scenarios constantly, both at
my job and at home. The opportunity cost of me being in college is the time I would have spent doing
a number of other things I enjoy, such as spending time with friends and family. However, obtaining
an education and pursuing my goals is extremely important to me, therefore, I must sacrifice other
high valued alternatives that I greatly enjoy. 2. What is the difference between absolute advantage and
comparative advantage? What is the benefit of trade? (5 Points) Comparative advantage occurs when
an individual or firm has the ability to produce a good or service at a lesser opportunity cost than that
of other entities. Absolute advantage occurs when an individual or firm has the ability to produce a
good or service more efficiently and at a lower cost per unit. In other words, an individual or firm that
has the absolute advantage has the ability to produce more of good or service

A Long Way Gone Language Analysis
Approximately 300,000 child soldiers are actively serving in military forces, terrorist organizations,
and gangs. In 1993 and at the age of 13, Ishmael Beah was forced into the same horrendous situation.
Ishmael Beah s A Long Way Gone depicts his own journey of loss, military recruitment, and

evil is present in everyone if they are given apt incentive.
Ishmael Beah uses metaphors in A Long Way Gone to reinstate the overarching theme that everyone

Do you have any last words to say? The old man at this point was unable to speak. His lips trembled,

that came from the muzzle (Beah 33). This simile is used to improve the sentence and show how the
people are truly inhumane in their ways. However, previously in the page, they were described as
teenagers around the age of Ishmael, his brother, and their friends. The Rebel United Front child
soldiers were torturous to the old man before they killed him. They were cold and showed no emotion,
informing the reader that they had done this many, many times before. This would never had happen
previous to the war in Sierra Leone. This is shown by the quote, Before the war a young man wouldn t
have dared to talk to anyone older in such a rude manner. We grew up in a culture that demanded good
behaviour from everyone, and especially from the young. Young people were required to respect their
elders and everyone in the community (Beah 33). This shows how previous to the war children were
respectful to all and because of the war, they are able to commit the worst crimes. Therefore, the
young age of these boys and their terrifying savagery shows how anyone is capable of evil. On other
paths of the village were the half burnt remains of those who had fought fiercely to free themselves,
only to die outside. They lay on the ground in different postures of pain, some reaching for their
heads, the white bones in their jaws visible, others curled up like a child in a womb, frozen (Beah 94

horrible circumstances. This is reinforced later

US Arms Monopoly Summary
The Case Against a U.S. Arms Monopoly is written by Christopher J. Coyne and Abigail R. Hall. The
beginning starts out with discussing about how much exactly the United States government owns in
the global arms market. The article brings up what exactly other countries own and how powerful they
are in the global arms and it show how much the United States government owns. After the
introduction to the monopoly that the United States government has the article begins to discuss about
the arguments that are for this monopoly. This discusses all of the positives and goods that come from
the United States having this monopoly over global arms. Soon after that, the article begins to talk
about just costs and consequences that come from the United States having this monopoly. In this part
it is discussed that there are four parts to this. These costs are system effects, principal agent problems,
rent seeking, and increase in the overall amount of global arms.

Fascism and Communism were Centered on the Control of a...
Although both fascism and communism initiated in Europe and both extended their popularity in the
mid 20th century, they had opposing thoughts and principles. Fascism and communism were centered
around repressive political systems founded on the control of a single leader. Communism is built
upon the theory of economic equality, however, fascism is focused on the glory of the state and
strength is shown by violence and conquest. The definitions, political and economic systems, ideas,
and the social structures are unique differences of the two. Communism is defined as a theory or
system of social organization based on the holding of all property in common, with actual ownership
ascribed to the community or state. Fascism is interpreted as a government system led by a dictator
having complete power, forcibly oppressing opposition and criticism, regulating all industry and
emphasizing an aggressive nationalism. Although the two were both originated in Europe, fascism and
communism are two completely separate ideologies. Communism s political system is known to have
not one leader and focused directly on the people. This political system has never essentially been
practiced; it has just used a one party system. Fascism s political system has one charismatic leader
has complete authority which is often the symbol of the state. In communism, the means of production
are held in common, negating the idea of ownership in capital goods, while in fascism, they focused

back to his native reserve. In comparison, Angel Levine by Bernard Malamud describes the life of a
Jewish man, named Manischevitz, who lost everything: his children, his business, and his wife
because of her fatal illness. He reaches out to God, but there is no response which also leads him to

Manischevitz is distraught when a Black Angel appears to help, and he realises that all hope is lost.
This negatively affects Mr. Manischevitz because he seeks affirmation from God, although, he does
not believe in the black angel s powers. This leads Manischevitz down a spiral where he smote to the
naked bones, cursing himself for having believed in God to help him in his time of need. On the other
hand, in Blue Winds Dancing, the native also undergoes an internal conflict; the native feels alone and
lost in the White world. He feels like an outsider with no place in the white world that he desperately
wants to accept him. The native compares himself to a hobo because they both are outsiders because
they cherish different things from a typical white man. Additionally, the native in the story does not
have a name to symbolize that his experience is very similar to many other natives who want to be
apart of the white world. Overall, the native is having an Identity crisis because he does not know
whether to acculturate and become like every other white man or go back to the blanket because it is
familiar to him. He longs for home because he does not agree with the white man s customs of getting
a hill and wanting a mountain . He wants to return back home where people can be free and the native
can truly be himself. These internal conflicts are similar because both protagonists encounter identity
crises which cause them to seek affirmation in their faith

ROMANIA
Topic 1: State sponsored description based on sexual orientation
Description about Romania
Although Romania was originally a part of the Ottoman Empire, several principalities gained their
autonomy and then united to join the Axis powers. The greatest impact on Romanian people came
from Soviet occupation of the Eastern bloc, which caused an establishment of communism as the main
government ideology and led to slow economic growth during the 20th century, a time of rapid
industrialization and growth for many nations across the globe. Today, Romania is a member of both
the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the European Union (EU). Situated between
Bulgaria and Ukraine, it is home to one of the sputtering economies in the region, which is based on
manufacture of industrial capacity machinery and chemicals to other trade partners such as Germany
and Italy. Romania also boasts one of the largest labor forces in the world. One major issue with
Romania is its problem with drugs, as it serves as a conduit for laundering through government
officials and financial institutions.
Overview of the topic
In the past two decades, the rapidly expanding trend among countries has been towards decrease in
human rights allegations against LBGT people. With the emergence of regional government
institutions to keep the problem in check and the increasing accessibility of international courts to
pursue and take action against violations of gay rights, the world has taken a

Drilling for Oil in the Artic National Wildlife Refuge
The United States should not drill for oil in the Artic National Wildlife Refuge because it would harm
the environment, disrupt the animals, and destroy plants. The United States Congress created the Artic
National Wildlife Refuge in 1980 (To drill or not to drill?: 6). The Artic National Wildlife Refuge is
also known as ANWR (To drill or not to drill?: 6). The Artic National Wildlife Refuge is 19.6 million
acres of wilderness (Scalzo, Jim Lo.: 37). Of the 19.6 million acres in the Artic National Wildlife
Refuge 17.5 million acres are permanently closed to development. The Arctic National Wildlife
Refuge is often called the American Serengeti (Defenders of Wildlife). The Artic National Wildlife

Pipelines and oil drilling platforms will harm caribou, polar bears, and millions of migrating birds
(Come on in.: 38). Whenever some country drills for oil it is more likely than not for that country to
have an oil spill. Oil spills are deadly to animals, hard to clean up, and it takes the land thousands of
years to recover. The United States has already had one major oil spill off the coast of Alaska in Prince
William Sound. If another large oil spill occurred on the water it would have a substantial effect on
whales and other marine wildlife (Experts say Alaska Oil Drilling Hurts Wildlife: 43). There are over
130 bird species that find breeding, nesting, or resting places on the coastal plain (Defenders of
Wildlife).
All of the oil will be pumped down the Trans Alaskan Pipeline no matter what. Then it is loaded onto
tankers and shipped out of Prince William Sound, but the tankers that the oil is being shipped in are at
an enormous risk for having an oil spill. This is because most of the ships that pick up the oil are not
doubled hulled. The vast majority of oil shipped from Alaska is carried in aging tankers with higher
risk of leaking. Only 3 of 26 have double hulls and those are more than 20 years old. There are three
main oil companies who carry oil out of Alaska; Phillip, BP, and Exxon. The first of Phillip s four new

Ipv6 Transition
Abstract
The rapid diffusion of the Internet and development of high speed broadband networks have posed the
problem of inadequate IPv4 address space on the Internet. Moreover, this lack of address space has
been made worse by the progress made towards the ubiquitous network society, in which various
types of information equipment, mobile computers and electrical appliances communicate on the
internet. IPv6 was developed as a solution to this problem. In this paper I discussed various features
provided by IPv6 over IPv4 in terms of improved security, lower administration cost, QoS options,
mobility, auto configuration, and peer to peer capability etc. The transition mechanisms in use today
are discussed in details. I have conducted a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important to understand that no matter what technology dominate the market today; tomorrow it
will have to be upgraded to fulfil the demand. When IPv4 was developed it was the latest protocol to
meet the demand of the time. Since the time has changes so has the demand, the need for change was
inevitable. IPv6 introduced the features like increased address space allocation, stateless address
configuration etc which have taken the limit of internet protocol to the edge. The reason behind
choosing the topic of the evolution of internet protocol is to gain detailed knowledge on IP and its
purpose and also discuss the issues related to the transition of IPv4 to IPv6. Besides the need for the
transition and the transition mechanisms will be discussed.
3 Scope of the Research
To conduct the research I will survey on three leading ISPs from Bangladesh. It would have been
much more informative if an interview could have been carried out in person. But since it couldn t be
done I will prepare a questionnaire to conduct a survey which will find out the current structure of the
organisations and how the transition can be done.

My biggest challenge while trying to move up the corporate ladder is interpersonal communication
with co workers and presentation speeches in front of the owners and financial managers. During my

The Importance Of Reading In Education
The United States is increasingly becoming a nation of nonreaders. In 2013, it was reported that 32
million adults, 14 percent of our population, could not read. Twenty one percent of the adults that
same year read below a fifth grade level. Additionally, nineteen percent of the high school graduates
could not read (Maddie Crum. The U.S. Illiteracy Rate Hasn t Changed In 10 Years. The Huffington
Post). This is alarming in a wealthy country like the United States. Our society will suffer from
illiteracy in socioeconomic issues if we continue to abandon reading in future years. If we continue to
neglect reading as a nation the literacy rate of children will decrease. Due to many parents having
reading difficulties themselves, they do not read to their kids at a young age. Often these parents do
not encourage reading. According to the U.S Department of Education, when there is a low amount of
parent support at home the classroom reading score is below the national average by 46 points. When
there is a high amount of parental support at home the classroom reading score is above the national
average by 28 points (NEA Facts about Children s Literacy ). Children with low parental support
come to school behind their classmates who experienced reading at a young age. When parents read to
their children they learn early reading skills, such as reading from left to right, the meaning of words,
and it increases their vocabulary. Children who come to school already behind

The Rise and Fall of Four Loko 1. All beverages are dangerous when consumed in large quantities. In
the late eighties and early nineties, a beverage named Cisco came under scrutiny when many
individuals succumbed to alcohol poisoning after imbibing the fruity alcoholic beverage. It was
packaged in a fashion that some claimed to look like wine coolers. Nonetheless, the Canandaigua

4. Clearer packaging or a warning label similar to cigarettes should be implemented before banning
such products. If the FTC and FDA could find some consistency in their application of policies, it
would help the business world tremendously. Even some consumers have switched to Joose, a drink
similar to the original Four Loko: Once we only had the energy free version in stock, many customers

The author states that children who are immunized are less healthy in general than non immunized
children.
One of the strengths of this article is that the author encourages research before making a decision in
regards to immunization.
There are a number of weaknesses to discuss, the validity of the research is questionable, (due to
further research, contradicting her claims. ) The statement made about Japanese immunization was
found to be incorrect.
Some of the authors information is generalized such as statements like I have NEVER met a fully
vaccinated child that is healthier and more robust than a well nourished, unvaccinated child.
A lot of the statements made are based on her own beliefs and are not backed up by facts and figures.
Someday there will be a study that shows that unvaccinated children have many less health problems
than their vaccinated peers. Don t wait until this study is finally done because it will be too late for
your child. Is an example of this kind of statement.

To What Extent Were The Social Policies Of The Idi Amin...
To what extent were the social policies of the Idi Amin administration a detrimental response to
Uganda s colonial past? This is the question that this essay endeavors to answer as it scrutinizes the
social policies issued by Idi Amin Dada s administration throughout his eight year long reign over
Uganda. This essay will analyze the events of Idi Amin s rule from 1971 to 1979 as a response to the
decade prior to Uganda s independence in 1962 and the interim period between them from 1962 to
1971. It is made apparent that Idi Amin s response to the issues within his society were by in large
fueled by the lingering distaste he had for the effects that British involvement in Ugandan affairs had
left on the nation. The British introduced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These origins stemmed from the late 19th century to the early 20th century when the British first
began to colonize Uganda with the help of Asians but didn t intensify until the fifties when classism
and racism became a growing issue. These concerns would grow potentially destructive in the sixties
when Britain worked alongside Idi Amin to overthrow Milton Obote and then a reality in the 70 s
when these issues were addressed with severity. Links between Idi Amin s ruthless social policies and
Uganda s colonial past became apparently negative which posed the query, to what extent were these
social policies a detrimental response? The focus of this piece is to illustrate the extent to which Idi
Amin s social policies, issued in varying degree from 1971 to 1979, served as an overwhelmingly
detrimental and negative response to a time when Britain ceased greater control and influence over
Uganda. It is noteworthy because it provides an answer and origin to a nation that endured a
dictatorship with a lack of ethical and substantial social reform for nearly a decade. Instead a
subservient military overtook the Ugandan parliament in an attempt to force a self interested agenda
upon its diverse population. The question to investigate then becomes, to what extent were the social
policies of the Idi Amin administration a detrimental response to Uganda s colonial past?

Many people start to believe that napping is a permanent solution to keeping themselves feeling awake

that this is false. Participants in this study didn t report improved alertness, and did not find it easier to

may feel refreshing during the day, remember, getting a sustainable amount of sleep each night is still
very important to keep in mind. Thus showing that naps are indeed beneficial, but not life changing.
Consequently, you can see why I believe that naps are beneficial, as long as you manage their length.

Evolution Of Modern Technology
The 1990 s was the beginnings of modern technology as we know it today. When the Internet
first came out it began as a new trend, and many people thought it wouldn t last. Over the past 27
years technology has evolved in ways no one would have predicted in its early stages. From
cellphones, to computers, TVs, and the Internet itself has so vastly improved in such a small
amount of time. Technology has changed the way we live daily. From education, interacting with
friends and family, dating, music, our health, shopping, entertainment, and become famous our
society as a whole has evolved to become entirely dependent on technology. Before schools had
students carry heavy textbooks and notebooks. But now in this day and age we carry tablets
around storing the information for schools. It has gotten to the point that schools across the
country either give out electronics or the students are required to buy them for school. On a
related topic paper books are going out of style. Everyone now reads with an tablet. It s good for
the environment saving thousands of trees. Interacting with family and friends is a lot different
than it is now. Before you would write a letter, speak on the phone, or just talk in person. Now
we just post to our social media about news in our lives, then we can check to see if they liked,
shared, or reposted your information. With the help of social media dating has turned into the
digital age. I m sure all our parents met in real life first through a friend or just flirting with a
complete stranger. Now apps and websites are the way to go meet someone. In the 90 s and

Justice And Justice In Just Mercy, By Bryan Stevenson
In the novel, Just Mercy, by Bryan Stevenson, it is extremely apparent that there is a link between
poverty, wealth, injustice, and justice. This book incorporates a strong theme of poverty and how it
relates to justice, as well as injustice. Furthermore, it very apparently works to explain and provide
examples of problems within the justice system, and the urgency that these be corrected. One major
problem being poverty in relation to obtaining justice. This being said, throughout my personal
reading of the book, I have come to agree with Stevenson s statement, the opposite of poverty is not
wealth; the opposite of poverty is justice (Stevenson 18).
Walter McMillian, a man falsely convicted for a crime, experienced an immense amount of injustices
originally fueled from his race and societal status.
I felt the need to explain to people what Walter had taught me. Walter made me understand why we
have to reform a system of criminal justice that continues to treat people better if they are rich and
guilty than if they are poor and innocent. A system that denies the poor the legal help they need, that
makes wealth and status more important than culpability, must be changed. (Stevenson 313)
What I have interpreted this as, is the court system is trying to get through these things as quickly as
possible, as well as try to convict someone as quickly as possible to give the community a sense of
reassurance that a murderer is off the streets. Furthermore, if the

CASE ANALYSIS:
PRESENTED: THURSDAY JUNE 15, 2006
MCI
CASE ANALYSIS
INTRODUCTION
MCI is at a critical point in their company history. After going public in 1972 they experienced several
years of operating losses. Then in 1974 the FCC ordered MCI s largest competitor AT T to supply
interconnection to MCI and the rest of the long distance market. With a more even playing field the
opportunities to increase market share and revenue were significant. In order to maximize this
opportunity MCI required capital. Their poor financial performance required them to use less
traditional instruments to obtain financing. The capital acquired supported their growth until they
reached a level of profitability in 1978. Subsequently they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The shares carried a conversion price to common stock of $2.1875 per share. The call date for
conversion was 15 months later in March of 1980. At the time of the issue MCI stock was trading at a
price of $1.875. In 1977 MCI s net income and profitability ratios had improved considerably and
their forecast for 1978 earnings was in excess of $5,000,000. Debt ratios, dept to equity and return on
equity ratios would all remain within an acceptable range after the issue. (see exhibit H). In addition
the court had lifted a restriction on the Execunet service provided by MCI which was their fastest
growing business and would make significant contributions to revenue and profitability in the years to
come.
Nine months later in September of 1979 MCI raised the largest amount of financing in the company s
history by issuing 4,500,000 shares of senior convertible cumulative preferred stock with at $15 per
share with total proceeds valued at $63,125,000. The conversion date was set for 20 months later in
May 1981. This offering was supported by the improved actual and forecasted profitability of the
company and the key ratios would remain in an acceptable range following the offering. (see exhibit I)
In July of 1980 MCI issued their first subordinated debenture at a rate of 15% due in the year 2000
raising $50,545,000 in capital. This rate was 346

  • 2. Determining The Function Of The Ordinal Scale Before conducting a statistical analysis, every researcher needs to measure the depended variable. The measurement depends on the type of variable. Different types are measured differently. So, the researcher has to decide on the appropriate scale of measurement. There are typically four levels of measurement: nominal, ordinal, interval, and ratio. 1. The purpose of the nominal scale is for identification and represents the lowest level of measurement. With a nominal scale, the researcher only names or categorizes responses (i.e. male/female, high/low, unemployed, employed, retired, student). Thus, nominal scale measures variables that are non numeric or where the numbers have no value. 2. The purpose of the ordinal scale is to allow comparisons of the degree to which two subjects possess the dependent variable. The ordinal scale provides a rank order (i.e. very dissatisfied, somewhat dissatisfied, somewhat satisfied, or very satisfied). However, it is the order of the values that is important, not the differences between them. Ordinal scales usually measures non numeric variables like satisfaction, happiness, discomfort, etc 3. The Interval scale provides information about both the rank order and the exact differences between the values (i.e. pain scale). However, interval scales do not have a true zero point. 4. The Ratio scale (i.e. height and weight) is the most informative scale because it tells the researcher about order, the exact value between units, and has a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho ( Staring Janet Leigh And... Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho (staring Janet Leigh and Anthony Perkins) is one of the most influential films in motion picture history. Hitchcock uses cinematography, dialogue, costumes and lighting, as well as many other film techniques to thrill the audience and keep them on the edge of their seats from the beginning of the film to the very end. The scenes we have just viewed are a typical example of Hitchcock s great ability to tell a story in a horrific way and haunt the viewers for a long time after their experience with the thrilling movie. He is able to get into the audience s minds and scare them into never wanting to have another shower again. Psycho contains many symbols and techniques that pushed the limit of acceptable filmmaking in the 1960 s. The film centers on the encounter between a secretary, Marion Crane (Leigh), who ends up at a secluded motel after embezzling money from her employer, and the motel s disturbed owner manager, Norman Bates (Perkins), and its aftermath. When originally made, the film was seen as a departure from Hitchcock s previous film North by Northwest, having been filmed on a low budget, with a television crew and in black and white. Psycho initially received mixed reviews, but outstanding box office returns prompted reconsideration which led to overwhelming critical acclaim and four Academy Award nominations, including Best Supporting Actress for Leigh and Best Director for Hitchcock. It is one of Hitchcock s best films today. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Allan Grey Allan Grey JQ Excelsior Williams A Streetcar Named Desire and Kazan s film adaptation shared not only the same characters, but also the same themes, reactions and other literary techniques Williams had created throughout his play. However, for Elia Kazan to have produced the film, some scenes were eliminated or changed to fit what was known as the Hay s Code. One of the scenes that was not so much vital to the play, was when Blanche DuBois explains to Mitch about her ex husband. Allan Grey, Blanche s ex husband, was found in bed with another man and by no other than his wife, Blanche herself. In the play both Blanche and Allan pretended that nothing happened after that night. Allan was probably being tortured and was already ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So this would not be so surprising as Blanche hides almost everything about herself. While talking to Mitch, she instead says, At night I pretended to sleep, and I heard him crying, whereas in the play she talks about the discovery of Allan s homosexuality. But for those of age or rather those who could understand and knew about sexuality in depth, they could pin point what Blanche meant by lost all respect for him . Allan s homosexuality was one of the demands that had to be met. Homosexuality was most likely a taboo subject that people would not bring up, but producers had to find out what was okay and what was not okay to put in films. There was no official censorship to undergo of any movie being released at the time of Kazan s film adaptation. However, the producers had volunteered for investigation by the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) and CLD (Catholic Legion of Decency). CLD however strictly forbid showing such content like Allan s sexual preference in action. MPAA had been known as the Hays Office. The name Hays comes from the first president of the office in 1922. When a couple years later, J. Breen was president (1934), he had enforced demands that prohibited sexual, violent, and swearword actions. After several cuts to the film to maintain a positive and high audience, eventually demands were met and the film was accepted. Even though this was one of the few changes made in ... What Is The Essence Of Christian Worldview When it comes to defining what is the true essence of the Christian worldview, it must be noted that there is not a single point of which serves as the essence but rather the essence of Christianity comes from many of its key points. The first point that serves as part of the foundation that creates the essence of the Christian worldview would be the belief in God s existence. This may seem quite obvious since one of the key tenets of any theistic worldview is the belief a higher power but this should not be overlooked since it is an extremely vital part. In this piece, Karl Popper articulates a common fallacy that occurs when people begin to discuss the use of inductive logic to reach an end. Popper defines the problem of induction as that which we can question whether inductive inferences are acceptable as a means to an end. In other words, it questions the ability to use inductive claims to make a universal statement. Inductive claims are those that Popper describes as those that are based off of experiences. Popper deduces that in order for us to make a universal claim from experiences, he must first establish a principle of induction. This principal of induction as Popper defines would allow us to justify using inductive statements in a logically valid and precise form. Popper notes that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cognitive behavioural theory (CBT) is a kind of psychotherapeutic treatment that enables patients to comprehend the thoughts and feelings that control their behaviours. Cognitive behavioural therapy is more frequently used to treat an extensive range of disorders such as depression and anxiety. Cognitive behavioural therapy is widely short term and concentrates on enabling clients to deal with very particular problems. Often six weeks to six months sessions of course depending upon the problem it is pacifically goal directed and places great weight upon self help as a long term coping tool that the client can take away with them and successfully use. Cognitive behavioural therapy believes that clients can learn the wrong ways of developing and making sense of information during their cognitive development. This can often lead to distortions in the way they identify reality, it s the job of the therapist to enable them to work this out. According to Dryden, 2007, p.299 Cognitive therapy first came to the attention of British psychologists and psychiatrists through the pioneering work of the British researchers who sought to evaluate the efficacy of Beck s treatment for depression. Cognitive behavioural theory can be used on a one to one basis or in a group setting. It is said that in order for cognitive behavioural therapy to be effective, the client ... Martin also attempts to defend affirmative action programs as being fair and non discriminatory by emphasizing that every single one of us...had been hired for reasons beyond our being able to do our jobs. There are also many fraternities that are academically based such a Phi Theta Kappa here at BCC, of which I am a member. To compare a persons race or circumstance of birth to being an active and voluntary member of an organization is patently absurd.

These statistics do not however show the percentage of those who actually graduate. (5 points) Opportunity cost can be defined as a high valued alternative that must be given up in order to achieve or obtain something else. In other words, for anything you decide to spend your time doing results in sacrificing the opportunity to engage in doing something else. The value of the sacrificed alternative can only be determined by the individual that is choosing to sacrifice it. There are numerous examples of opportunity cost surrounding us throughout every day. Personally, I face opportunity cost scenarios constantly, both at my job and at home. The opportunity cost of me being in college is the time I would have spent doing a number of other things I enjoy, such as spending time with friends and family. However, obtaining an education and pursuing my goals is extremely important to me, therefore, I must sacrifice other high valued alternatives that I greatly enjoy. 2. Although both fascism and communism initiated in Europe and both extended their popularity in the mid 20th century, they had opposing thoughts and principles. Fascism and communism were centered around repressive political systems founded on the control of a single leader. Communism is built upon the theory of economic equality, however, fascism is focused on the glory of the state and strength is shown by violence and conquest. The definitions, political and economic systems, ideas, and the social structures are unique differences of the two. Communism is defined as a theory or system of social organization based on the holding of all property in common, with actual ownership ascribed to the community or state. Fascism is interpreted as a government system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly oppressing opposition and criticism, regulating all industry and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism. Although the two were both originated in Europe, fascism and communism are two completely separate ideologies. One of the strengths of this article is that the author encourages research before making a decision in regards to immunization. There are a number of weaknesses to discuss, the validity of the research is questionable, (due to further research, contradicting her claims. ) The statement made about Japanese immunization was found to be incorrect. Some of the authors information is generalized such as statements like I have NEVER met a fully vaccinated child that is healthier and more robust than a well nourished, unvaccinated child. A lot of the statements made are based on her own beliefs and are not backed up by facts and figures. This is the question that this essay endeavors to answer as it scrutinizes the social policies issued by Idi Amin Dada s administration throughout his eight year long reign over Uganda. This essay will analyze the events of Idi Amin s rule from 1971 to 1979 as a response to the decade prior to Uganda s independence in 1962 and the interim period between them from 1962 to 1971. These origins stemmed from the late 19th century to the early 20th century when the British first began to colonize Uganda with the help of Asians but didn t intensify until the fifties when classism and racism became a growing issue. Links between Idi Amin s ruthless social policies and Uganda s colonial past became apparently negative which posed the query, to what extent were these social policies a detrimental response? The focus of this piece is to illustrate the extent to which Idi Amin s social policies, issued in varying degree from 1971 to 1979, served as an overwhelmingly detrimental and negative response to a time when Britain ceased greater control and influence over Uganda. It is noteworthy because it provides an answer and origin to a nation that endured a dictatorship with a lack of ethical and substantial social reform for nearly a decade. Instead a subservient military overtook the Ugandan parliament in an attempt to force a self interested agenda upon its diverse population. • 44. Justice And Justice In Just Mercy, By Bryan Stevenson In the novel, Just Mercy, by Bryan Stevenson, it is extremely apparent that there is a link between poverty, wealth, injustice, and justice. This book incorporates a strong theme of poverty and how it relates to justice, as well as injustice. Furthermore, it very apparently works to explain and provide examples of problems within the justice system, and the urgency that these be corrected. One major problem being poverty in relation to obtaining justice. This being said, throughout my personal reading of the book, I have come to agree with Stevenson s statement, the opposite of poverty is not wealth; the opposite of poverty is justice (Stevenson 18). Walter McMillian, a man falsely convicted for a crime, experienced an immense amount of injustices originally fueled from his race and societal status. I felt the need to explain to people what Walter had taught me. Walter made me understand why we have to reform a system of criminal justice that continues to treat people better if they are rich and guilty than if they are poor and innocent. A system that denies the poor the legal help they need, that makes wealth and status more important than culpability, must be changed. (Stevenson 313) What I have interpreted this as, is the court system is trying to get through these things as quickly as possible, as well as try to convict someone as quickly as possible to give the community a sense of reassurance that a murderer is off the streets. Furthermore, if the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
