General Instructions for All Written Assignments
Each week you will have a short written assignment. Though each assignment is slightly different, this
should serve as general instructions for all assignments.
Formatting: All assignments should be completed as Microsoft Word documents. They should be
between 2 and 3 pages and be double spaced with standard indentation. The font should be size 12,
Times New Roman. You should create a short title page including your name, the date, the assignment
title, and the instructor s name. The page limit does NOT include the title page or bibliography.
Writing: Your writing should demonstrate both a factual understanding of the topic at hand ... Show

+ Unsatisfactory (less than 14 points). The student does not know enough facts about the argument,
and does not use clear logic to support the facts they do know.
20 Points for Formatting
Formatting refers to the student s ability to communicate effectively within the paper. This refers to
grammar, proper formatting of the document, and syntax. A student also receives credit for having the
proper page length (2 3 pages). A paper with three or less mistakes will receive 15 19 points. A paper
with multiple minor mistakes will receive anywhere between 10 14 points, while a paper which is
presented too poorly to be considered a college level paper will receive anywhere from 0 13 points.
I cannot overemphasize the importance of formatting in the written assignments. Always make certain
to use spell checker and to reread your paper at least two times before submitting. You will be amazed
at the number of mistakes you will catch this way.
10 Points for Sources
Sources must be formatted properly in APA or MLA style. There is no set amount of sources needed,
but a student must remember that they should be able to back up each statement with a reliable source.
If you are using dates, statistics, or facts that are not common knowledge, it is usually proper to use a
citation. Also, the quality of sources will be graded. Remember, Wikipedia and other open
encyclopedias are NOT credible sources. Be careful what you cite!

Criminalization Of Homelessness
This case study examines homelessness and some of the difficulties encountered when trying to solve
this problem. The woman in the story, Tracy, works for Fairmont Christian Housing Alliance. Tracy
does not support the new panhandling legislation, which allows police the power to give citations for
intimidating conduct if it is accompanied by an act of solicitation (Pg. 93). She does not feel that
further criminalization of homeless will stop their panhandling and will not promote positive change.
Unfortunately, due to the possible loss of funding sources, her employer and other service providers
have chosen to publicly support the new law. Tracey wishes to truly help her clients in a
compassionate manner, rather than just hiding them away

Literature with the theme of self-destruction
The act of being self destructive does not just come to be. It occurs slowly and takes hold in
individuals to varying degrees, contingent upon how cold they are, and by their level of self
absorption and conceited desires. A combination of these characteristics can be discerned in each of
the protagonists from the literary forms I studied. Each character is self destructive, but the
consequences of their actions and the number of people they hurt tends to magnify depending on how
many of these characteristics they appear to demonstrate. What unites these characters is their ultimate
self destruction, resulting in the death of three out of four characters studied here. These four
characters are Macbeth, from the play Macbeth by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Kenny then turned the gun towards Tub, Tub s emotions escalated into fear, which had instant
consequences for Kenny, as Tub reacted on those emotions, without thinking. Society can learn from
these examples. Listening to our feelings and recognising emotions, should be something we are
taught to heed. They are a prime source of information, working to keep us safe. Macbeth and Kenny
teach us that strong emotions like guilt and fear are therefore important because they have the power
to prevent repetition of cruel acts that have negative consequences. Becoming cold and callous, by
blocking access to feelings, is an important teaching tool for society.
An additional flaw that facilitates the destruction of the character s self is the egotistical, conceited self
absorption the protagonists Eddie, Ben, and Macbeth have in themselves. This is evident in Eddie
Carbone s inability to compromise when he finds his incongruous desires for his Niece threatened by
Rodolfo, an Italian immigrant staying in America with the Carbone family to escape the impoverished
conditions in Italy. As Catherine s relationship with Rodolfo strengthens, Eddie s personal desires and
feelings towards Catherine become increasingly more obsessive and conspicuous. He voices his
resentment and antagonism towards Rodolfo, determined to prevent

Upton Sinclair s The Jungle
From the arrival of Jurgis family to an America that was not what they expected, to the loss of all hope
in their lives, Upton Sinclair s The Jungle shows many instances where the immigrants and workers of
the industries are severely exploited. Sinclair traveled to the stockyards in Chicago in order to observe
the conditions the workers lived and worked in. What he found was disturbing, disgusting, and
something of major importance to the public. Sinclair then decided to write his story about the abuse
of the workers, published the story, and accurately called it The Jungle , since the chaos in
Packingtown could be compared to an actual jungle. His novel was considered to be a part of a newer
type of writing, called yellow journalism, since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His narrative is part of numerous attempts to document those living on the margins of American
society , which is why the story is considered to be part of yellow journalism (Connery). Upton
Sinclair s The Jungle provides an excellent example of the yellow journalism and muckraking that
opened the eyes of many Americans during the 1900 s by showing the exploitation of the workers, the
conditions of the workplace, and the products sold to the public.
Before the time of muckrakers and yellow journalists came along, the conditions held in workplaces
like Jurgis were disgusting and nauseating, but the public had no clue of any of this since this news
was not being shared with the public. In The Jungle , many secrets about the sanitation and work laws
conducted in the industries were kept secret from the public. Sinclair s character, Jurgis, provides an
excellent point of view as a worker having to make a living in these conditions. For example, Jurgis
points out that the livestock the businesses used for food production was unfit to be fed to human
beings, saying that the meat was old and crippled and diseased , steerly , or covered in boils , and of
course, company owners kept this from the public to continue sales and production (Sinclair 709). The
Jungle also shows a great deal

Nanabozho s Acceptance Of Ethnic Myth
Ethnic Myth Myth, a myth is a traditional story, especially one concerning the early history of a
people or explaining something natural that a culture believes. Myths are very important to religion
and they help to define different cultures through storytelling and legends. Personally I had many
different myths to choose from, having a very mixed background. I chose a tale that meant something
to me and my family, the myth of how the rainbow was made. This legend is a Native American tale,
told by the Tohono O odham people. Its very light and happy that s one of the reasons why it was told
to me was a kid. This myth may seem like just a children s story but it has a deeper meaning that
anyone can interpret for themselves. First of all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everyone can have their own opinion, but for me I think the lesson or moral of this tale is to go with
the flow and to have fun, also to not be a downer and to not rain on others parades because in the end
the ones having fun could do something amazing. This myth demonstrated that to me because the two
little birds were just having fun and playing their games when Nanabozho scolded them for having a
good time, and when the birds continued and didn t listen to him being a downer they ended up
creating something beautiful that even Nanabozho himself couldn t deny was incredible, so you
should never listen to others who are trying to hold you back from having a blast and just being silly
and fun. The origin and history of this myth is mostly unknown, no one really knows how this story
came to be and when, but people do know that this tale originated from the Ojibwe Nation and was
retold by S. E. Schlosser. After that other tribes started to adopt the myth of how the rainbow was
made, including my tribe the Tohono O odham Nation. People also know that this tale is very old that
s one of the reasons why no one knows when it was created because it was so long ago. So the
background and origin of this myth is for the most part a

Essay on The Controversial Issue of Job-Outsourcing
With the United States economy in a depression and our unemployment rate skyrocketing to record
highs, job outsourcing has moved to the top of the list of controversial issues. Froma Harrop s essay
New Threat to Skilled U.S. Workers and Thomas Friedman s essay 30 Little Turtles discuss two
different viewpoints of job outsourcing, and their effects on society. Does our government really want
to cut back on job outsourcing, and what can society do to help the issue? Friedman s standpoint on
job outsourcing shows how it is emotionally beneficial to other countries and Harrop s factual
standpoint shows job outsourcing regulation, however, I feel that our citizens are unaware of the
opportunities and our government is eager to send the jobs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

By adding her own knowledge and ideas, she makes the essay very complex. Continuing on in the
essay Harrop brings in another source, professor of public policy Ron Hira. She shares Hira s research
results which show that the top applicants for H 1B visas are outsourcing companies. The companies
send worker to the United States to train and work before going back home to improve the companies
they work for. Harrop continues to use quotes from Hira along with adding her knowledge about how
job outsourcing affects the wages of American workers. The very last sentence in Harrop s essay
warns future workers about the rising issue. This is a very strategic move as a last chance to engrave
the message in the reader s mind. Harrop s facts and uses of other sources help the readers immensely
as they are trying to understand the issue. This essay was easy to understand and well written. Thomas
Friedman has taken a very different approach when trying to grab his audience s attention. 30 Little
Turtles, by Thomas Friedman is emotional essay that appeals to pathos. Friedman tries to persuade
people into seeing the positive effects of job outsourcing on the young adults of India. Friedman wants
those who oppose to job outsourcing to understand how it would be beneficial to others. He begins the
essay with an in depth description of his emotion as he read an accent neutralization poem to a group
of Indian trainees. He also says that he enjoys

Sullivan s Influence On American Architecture
At the turn of the century, new trends in painting and in architecture emerged to replace the traditional
forms of these arts, and introduce new and innovative ideas to the art and architecture of the new
century. Artists such as Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque introduced the cubism and collages, and
defied the need for art to be literal and straightforward as much art was before the twentieth century.
Architecture was transfigured by architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright and Le Corbusier, who
rejected traditional architectural methods and employed new ideals. Their ideals included using new
materials such as ferroconcrete, using Asian architecture as a significant influence, and drastically
changing how homes are constructed inside and out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Le Corbusier (1887 1965) was a French architect based in Europe whose real name was Charles
Edouard Jeanneret. Likewise to Wright, Le Corbusier believed in functional housing and often
compared a house to a machine (Frampton.) Ironically, he opposed and rejected Wright s architectural
ideals (Frampton). His architecture was quite known in Europe for its progressive and sleek style.
When it came down to deciding on how he would design his works, he followed his system called,
purism . Purism involved the consideration of two things: practical need and the search of archetypes.
According to Frampton, he wanted only what was practical and necessary to be considered in the
designs, and looked for intellectually stimulating and functional shapes. He believed in the constant
improvement and innovation of architecture; he did not agree with typical, traditional European style.
He based his architecture on an utopia and created all his designs to resemble a modern, city like
utopia that was ideal for automobiles. According to Frampton, he said, A city made for speed is a city
made for success . He called his ideal, utopian city, Ville Contemporaine and when he displayed his
utopian project in the Paris Exposition des Arts Decoratifs LOOK FOR YEAR OF THIS

The National Government Of The United States
Abstract
The National Government of the United States of America consists of three branches. These branches
of government, which include the legislative branch, the executive branch, and the judicial branch,
separate the government s power into a form of checks and balances. The system of checks and
balances has been set in place to allow the three branches to limit the power of the other branches, this
way, no branch is more powerful than the others. Each of these three branches of government will be
further explained and the duties and responsibilities of each branch will be defined. The branches will

Computerised Accounting Essay
Introduction
In this essay I have explained the importance of computerised accounting using ERP solutions. First I
explain various accounting processes in a company in two broad classes. Then I explore various
features in the mySAP ERP solution and how they cater to these processes. Then I explain the recent
changes in accounting standards due to the Sarbanes Oxley act and their repercussion to the design of
ERP solutions. Then I explained how mySAP helps companies to be compatible with the regulation.
The success of ERP implementation is based on various factors. I have researched 3 famous failure
and 3 famous success stories in ERP implementation and explained the effect on the companies.

This component records customer accounting data and manages the in cohesion with the general
ledger component. It connects the accounts receivable account to the general ledger through a special
account.
Another similar component is the accounts payable component, which records the vendor accounting
data and manages it via the general ledger component. It performs the same task as the previous
component but records the accounts payable through another reconciliation account.
Fixed Assets Accounting
This component maintains a comprehensive record of all the fixed assets of the company. It then
analyses the records in compliance to the accounting principles tailored to the country the company
operates in. This is a very important component as fixed assets form considerable portion of the total
assets for certain companies and its accurate representation in the balance sheet becomes essential.
Inventory Accounting
This feature records inventory held by the company. It supports various inventory valuation methods.
It records inventory in two types of currencies or valuation methods into the Material Ledger
component. It can maintain separate accounts for recording inventory, such as materials in various
stages of production. Efficient inventory

Cisco is one of the most powerful and successful corporation in the IP network industry. In the fiscal
2013 their revenue totaled $48.6 billion and their Net Income was $10.0 billion (Cisco 2013 Annual

The turning point arrived soon. In January of 1994 Cisco systems failed. Thus the inability of the
system to perform forced towards the utilization of unauthorized methods for accessing the core
application database which lead to the corruption of Cisco s database. Consequently the company shut
down virtually for two days.
Seeking for a new start
After the shutdown managers realized that the autonomous approach was not sufficient. There was the
need for a more integrated action, indeed separated decisions among the departments would have
taken too long. As a result the company gathered an Implementation Team to investigate on the
replacement of the application.
Thanks to the previous experience of the SVP of manufacturing Carl Redfield it was clear that the
implementation of IT projects can take a long time to be effective. In order to make the
implementation as quick as possible Redfield suggested to implement the project all at once and to do
not personalize the new system. Projects that are divided into phases and customized tend to take
longer time to be efficient, and many times they tend to become only an adaptation of the previous
method. He suggested also to make the implementation a priority for every department: the
involvement of the entire company is important for the effectiveness of the project.
Other than selecting within the company the best components for the Implementation Team, it was
important also finding

Pontius Pilate Influence On Jesus Plate
Pontius Pilate was a Roman governor who overlooked Judea. To me, he was made out to seem like a
weak leader in the gospels, however in all actuality, he was a harsh and strong governor. He could
arguably be considered the single man who changed history as we know it. The gospels do not explain
much about Pilate and his background. The only time he was really introduced was during the trial of
Jesus. He was acknowledged a few times to show he was the one who followed through with the
crucifixion, and then he ceased to be brought back up again. However, the book Pontius Pilate by Paul
L. Maier thoroughly and adequately illustrates Pilate s life before and after the life changing verdict.
This was a fascinating read that really captivated my interest. It was long and at times hard to follow,
but I was extremely intrigued with the eccentric details that Maier provided. ... Show more content on

I never understood how serious the division was but Pontius Pilate helped inform me of the
magnitude. There was serious tension since Pilate was governor over Jews and that ultimately affected
his decisions. He went so far as to use Jesus being on trial as a way to manipulate the Jews to admit
they had no king but Caeser. This was a confidence booster for Pilate because it reaffirmed his
authority of Rome. Not surprisingly, he didn t stop there. Pilate made sure the Jews felt guilty about
the crucifixion. It was said that Pilate washed his hands clean of Jesus blood. After, the Jews replied
by saying, His blood be on us and on our children (238). Pilate operated the whole production so the
blame would be focused on the Jews and not him. I was very shocked to see such evil works from a
man. I didn t know how intense the rivalry between the Jews and Gentiles were, but it was clearly big
enough for Pilate to influence a trial, Jesus trial, for his own selfish,

Ex Post Facto Clause Essay
The ex post facto clause of the Constitution says that Congress can t write an ex post facto law. It is an
aspect of the fundamental Maxim, nulla poena sine lege: there can be no punishment without law in
this case, without preexisting law (Gardener Anderson, 2015. p.13). An ex post facto law has
retroactive effects, a law which criminalizes or increases penalties on a crime which has already been
committed. It is interesting to note that this law restricted the states before the 14th Amendment was
applied. We define criminal acts as those that violated the law at the time in which the crime was
committed; therefore, we can t write an ex post facto criminal law and criminalize an activity that was
legal at the time it was committed, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As SCOTUS has said, it is the effect, not the form, of law that determines whether it is ex post facto
(Weaver v. Graham 1980). In Smith v. Doe (2003), SCOTUS rejected the claim that Alaska s sex
offender registration act (Meagan s Law) was not punitive in nature; thus, the ex post facto limitations
did not apply (Gardener Anderson, 2015. p. 18). This clause applies only to criminal statutes, not
judicial decisions having a retroactive effect (Gardener Anderson, 2015. p. 17); however, retroactive
judicial decisions can be challenged under the Due Process Clause (Rogers v. Tennessee 2001).
Retroactive procedural statues that work to deny a defense bar the practice of law, increase
punishment, or increase the likelihood of conviction may breach the Ex Post Facto Clause (Carmell v
Texas 2000). A statutory increase in punishment is also forbidden ex post facto law (Collins v.
Youngblood, 1990). An example would be, applying new sentencing guidelines to a defendant who
committed the crime prior to their promulgation (Miller v. Florida,

Social Security provides for the needs of a country s citizens when they are no longer able to provide
for themselves through gainful employment, is an issue that evokes multiple viewpoints. Before laying
the framework of the argument for meaningful change to social security program, the program itself
must be defined. The Social Security Program is based on the premise during your productive working
years you pay a percentage of your income as a tax into the social security system, at some point in the

The OASI Trustees 2012 report estimates that an additional 1.75% of payroll tax would fund the
current and future generations benefits at the current level (The Board of Trustees, 2012). The report
further states that a reduction in benefits for future generations, not past or current generations must
also come into effect (The Board of Trustees, 2012). The report however highlights that an optional
additional level of pay in should be created, allowing persons of future generations who would like to
maintain the current benefit level to do so (The Board of Trustees, 2012). The final step to making
social security structurally viable is the restructuring of its debt; to past generations by allocating 2%
of current payments towards it exclusively (Gokhale, 2013). With these changes past, current, and
future generations can continue to benefit from social security, while the program stay s true to its core
values of providing persons with the minimum level of income, when they are no longer capable of
working due to their age.
The final structural change that will improve the viability of social security is raising the age
requirement to receive the full benefits of social security. The obvious effects of lifting the age
requirements is the number of payments to individuals is reduced, the number of persons

Chief Oshkosh Red Lager Campaign Analysis
This 1962 logo features the brewing company s factor, and also depicts a red Chief Oshkosh figure

red shape behind the text also remains reminiscent of an arrowhead. This logo clearly appropriates
Native American traditions and motifs and misrepresents them from no other reason than to advertise
a product. In 1991, University of Oshkosh alum Jeff Fulbright attempted to revive the microbrew with

Put into scale, Chief Oshkosh the Brave hardly seems relevant to the course of history. The vast,
winding web of competing stories that makes up the history discipline seems not the have room for
figures who weren t necessarily earth shakers, but ultimately any figure who makes the earth move in
some way contains value in understanding. Chief Oshkosh s life, while worthy of being understood on
its own, tells a much larger story of how white Americans treat Native American figures. Just within
the Oshkosh community, three different interest groups rework his afterlife with three different tropes
for three different purposes. The general public s apathetic ignorance contributes to the Dying Indian
trope, which reinforces their apathy towards the contemporary Native American plight. The academic
institutions glorification of Chief Oshkosh depicts him as a patriot and a Civilized Indian,
undermining modern Native Americans who suffer from double consciousness or blend their heritage
with their modern world. Certain business interests in the city reduce Chief Oshkosh to a Noble
Savage to sell beer that at one point contained less that one half of 1% alcohol content by volume,
which in the short term might sell more beer but ultimately socializes white Americans to perceive
Native Americans as closer to nature and less human. In this one historical figure, three very different
fictional characters have been perpetuated. As a city, if Oshkosh is to do its namesake justice, they
must work to subvert these afterlives and recognize Chief Oshkosh as the flawed, multifaceted, and
controversial leader that he

Mental Film Analysis
If you were to make a movie on your life, would you act as you normally would or would you change
it up a bit?
Good morning ladies and gentlemen, my name is Tari Kao Wong and today s discussion is about
whether or not Australian films describe the reality of Australian lives. Representations of families in
Australian films and television programs are unrealistic. The films do not accurately represent life in
Australia, the settings in Australian films are rundown and the people in the films are just insane.
In the film Mental, there is a family of seven people, there are five daughters and a mother and a
father. This family is not exactly a normal family; in this family they consider themselves as mental
people. In the movie Mental, the mother ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a family that is very weird and crazy. People in the family are trying to make themselves
disabled to get more money because they live in the ghetto. Living in the ghetto could accurately
represent some peoples living conditions in life, but in Australia there can be some nice
neighbourhoods and nice people. The suburb that they live in is very rundown and is full of drug
addicts. The people in the neighbourhood even throw bricks at the ambulance. There are also old
ladies in the film Housos that are making a drug delivery; you wouldn t usually see old ladies carrying
around drugs or making deliveries for bikie gangs or any gangs. There is also a lot of bad language in
this film. The people in the film are swearing at the cops and are even climbing buildings to get away
from them. Normal people would cooperate with the police in a nicer manner. In the film Housos the
family got some money from one of the relatives and bought a stripping pole and put it in the middle
of the living room. Normally people would not spend their money on putting a stripping pole in the
middle of the living room, some people would either save up or buy a house but spending it on a pole?

Alison Bechdel s Fun Home
A Missed Connection
Much of Alison Bechdel s graphic memoir Fun Home is focused on the relationship between Alison
and her father. Due to this, the relationship between Alison and her mother is often pushed to the
sidelines. Although it may seem that their relationship doesn t play a main role simply because of the
focus of the story, it becomes increasingly obvious as the novel goes on that Alison and her mother
don t have much in the way of a relationship or connection. While at the forefront Alison explores the
many similarities and differences between her and her father, she also more subtlety looks at the vast
differences between her and her mother and the one similarity they did have: a passion for the arts.

In the bottom panel, the image depicts Alison s work table with lots of art supplies and some sketches
strewn over the surface, and on the bottom right of the table is a copy of The Importance of Being
Earnest. This was the play that Alison s mother had just performed in at the time, and the presence of
this play on Alison s desk shows Alison s attempt to reach out to her mother and relate to her. The
copy of the play being located near all of Alison s art supplies draws focus to the relationship between
the two art forms of theatre and visual art and the fact that there is something in common there, just
like in Alison and Helen s relationship. Alison s blank diary is also on the desk, and Alison says that
her earnest diary entries had given way to the implicit lie of the blank page (Bechdel 186), and the use
of the word earnest again draws the attention to the play and the way Alison fights to connect with her
mother through art. These blank diary entries could also describe Alison s relationship with her
mother. Although Alison tried earnestly to connect with her mother in the same way she tried to write
in her diary, in the end, all that was left of the story of their relationship was blank pages. There could
have been a connection there through their shared love

John Cook Imperialist Attitude
Cook s imperialist attitude may have very well, led to his demise. His initial behavior of beginning
trade with the Hawaiians, dismantling of sacred structures, and his strategic use of Lono was not have
directly caused his death, these interactions certainly cause the stressing of the relationship between
the Europeans and the native people as the Europeans outstayed their welcome. Trade efforts were
successful at the outset, the trading of iron goods to the Hawaiians gave the group power and strength

Almost all depictions show European sailors in small numbers in boats with guns and countless
Hawaiians on the shore with spears. The key difference is the positioning of Cook, in some depictions
Cook appears to be holding up a hand to his crew ordering them to stop their fire and trying to flee the
island while a Hawaiian man is stabbing him in the back and in other depictions Cook is face to face
with the mob of Hawaiians, threateningly holding a gun with a dead Hawaiian man at his feet. In the
artistic depictions that show Cook as ordering his crew to stop their fire, while Cook is stabbed in the
back, the point of view that Cook was a heroic figure is brought to life. It can be assumed that the
artist was painting from the perspective that Cook was vouching for a diplomatic and peaceful way of
resolving the dispute and fairly wanted his cutter to be returned, falling victim to the unintelligent,
savage, and brutish ways of the native people. In the depiction that shows Cook with a gun, engaging
the Hawaiians face to face, with a dead (native) body at his feet, the point of view of the Hawaiians is
more clearly shown with Cook as an instigator, who took advantage of the Hawaiians in his time on
the island, and who reacted unproportionately to the theft of the cutter with the kidnapping of Kaawola
Kalei opu u. The first depiction seems unlikely

The Antitrust Laws Are Really Competition Laws That Are...
Abdurhman Alsadi Prof. Joshua Long Exam #3 04/14/2016 Question #1 The antitrust laws are
basically competition laws that are aimed at protecting the consumers from predatory businesses out
who may be out to defraud consumer and to limit the practice of free and fair competition in the
market. The major objective of these laws was majorly meant to curb business practise vices such as
price fixing, bid rigging, and market allocations. In USA, the antitrust law is cascade into two major
categories, the federal antitrust laws, and state antitrust laws. The first antitrust law in USA was the
Sherman Act of 1890. This law mainly address the unreasonable restraints of trade which are
perceived to be monopolizing with foreign entities and restraint of businesses from operations in the
form of contracts and conspiracies in business combinations. The second major antitrust law is the
Clayton Act brought in 1914 which widened the scope of the Sherman Act for include impermissible
activities such as price discrimination between different purchasers if such discrimination tend to
create a monopoly; exclusive dealing agreements, tying arrangements, and mergers and acquisitions
that substantially reduce market competition. The third major antitrust law were the Robinson Patman

practices where manufacturers discriminated in price between equally situated distributors to decrease

Mexican muralism offers us one of the most politically charged and expressive art forms of the 20th

his forms, this is apparent in the mural. All of the images are active, and they all do their part in

covered with images that seem to converge toward the middle wall. The central wall is the most
controversial wall as far as content is concerned. This wall seems to depict capitalism as it

Hunger Games Movie Analysis
CLOSE UPS The movie that I chose to analyze is The Hunger Games. This movie is about a girl,
Katniss Everdeen, who volunteers as tribute for the seventy fourth annual Hunger Games in the place
of her sister, Primrose Everdeen, whose name was picked and announced at the reaping. Katniss, the
protagonist played by Jennifer Lawrence, is forced to go outside of her comfort zone when she has to
make friends and train to kill people in order to win the Games and come home to her sister, Primrose,
who is played by Willow Shields. The Hunger Games was directed by Gary Ross and was released on
March 23rd, 2012. The year that this movie was made, a Canadian filmmaker, named James Cameron,
became the first person to visit Challenger Deep, the US President Barack Obama secured Democratic
presidential nomination, and The Avengers premiered in Los Angeles. Watching this movie, now in
2017, still gives me the same feeling it did when I watched it for the first time in 2012. I can see that
the cast and crew for The Hunger Games were picked out carefully. That being said, I thought this
movie was marvelous. The crew did a great job with the elements used in determining the type of
movie, mise en scene, cinematography, acting, editing, and sound. There are many types of movies,
such as narrative movies, documentary movies, and experimental movies. This movie is an example of
a narrative movie. This movie is fiction and entertains most people. Narrative films may be broken

Economic Globalization Is The Growing Integration Of World...
Economic globalization is the growing integration of world markets and the intensifying
interdependence of global economies. The process has social and economic costs as well as benefits.
The process is both critiqued and lauded by scholars. On one hand it provides opportunities and
growth while on the other hand it creates an unequal distribution of wealth also while hurting workers
rights. At the conclusion of World War II, Harry White and John Maynard Keynes aimed to create a
financial strategy to liberate the world economy from the extensive restrictions and controls levied
during the war. At the Bretton Woods conference, they provided proposals which strengthened
American economic hegemony (Rodrik). This happened because both White and Keynes recognized
that domestic economic needs outranked global economics (Rodrik). The goal of the Bretton Woods
conference was to stimulate moderate economic globalization.
Dani Rodrik praises the unification of global markets and trade liberalization after the Bretton Woods
conference. He especially lauds Keynesian globalization, which gives states discretion in trade policy
and regulation. According to Rodrik, the Bretton Woods conference was successful in fostering
economic trade after years of war and rivalry. However, he does critique trade liberalization and
multilateral international institutions that emerged out of Bretton Woods, such as the International
Monetary Fund (IMF), General Agreements on Tariffs and Trade

Green Fluorescent Protein Lab Report
1. The technique that allows scientists to follow with their own eyes the dynamic movements of
specific proteins as they occur within the living cell is the green fluorescent protein. This is a protein
that is extracted from only a few jellyfish. This diffuses a green fluorescent colored light. The green
fluorescent protein can be blended to the protein and can work normally and so does the protein itself
that it is binded to. The protein is not affected and can be moved and transported throughout the cell
and can then be seen.

in the evolution of life in earth is that RNA is able to encrypt information and is able to assemble

nucleic acids encrypted information. Obviously, RNA can do both and since the discovery of it, many
scientists now believe RNA played an important role in the evolution of life.

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Two Spains
What exactly does Las Dos Españas refer to? Las Dos Españas or the two Spains refers to the long

conservative party is the more close minded Spaniards while the liberal party is more open minded
Spaniards. Spain is split roughly 50:50 between the two parties. The split is one of the most critical
aspects in the Spanish history. If one does not know about the Two Spains, one does not know the full

The Principles of Leadership, Group Dynamics and Team Building
In this paper, I will discuss many theories and the impact they have on leadership, group dynamics and
team building, and how those principles have affected me in my career and how I will apply these
principles in the future.
Vision
Manning and Curtis define leadership as social influence that results in change. It is initiating action
that results in change. (Manning G., p. 1) Dynamic leadership is the driver behind performance and
results. Leaders need to create a clearly define vision, and communicate it in such a way as to earn buy
in from others. Clarity of objectives will drive the right action, which will insure deliverables and
goals are achieved. (Gill, 2015) The principle behind vison is that everyone is aware of the desired
goal and vision, and can then efficiently work toward accomplishing that goal. A leaders ability to
communicate the vision and achieve a common goal and focus dramatically affects the effectiveness
of their team and the success or demise of the business.
I have found that leaders who fail to motivate, or lack self confidence to be weak and ineffective.
Good leaders are knowledgeable and trustworthy they are people who are ambitious and results
driven. It has been my experience that when leaders lack the ability to remove obstacles or clearly
define the objective, the teams fail to produce the results or meet the deliverables. I have had leaders
that were ineffective due to poor

Analysis Of Column 7L
During the initial site walk, cracking was observed on the north corbel of column 7B, as labeled on the

vicinity of the B line of columns in this area of the structure. Given that these new columns may have

From this position, the northern corbel at column 5B appears to have similar conditions compared to
column 6B. A significant portion of the corbel has fallen off and is lying on top of the CMU wall in
that area (Figure 26). The bearing conditions look similar to column 6B, but exact measurements were
not possible. The condition of the beam bearing on the corbel was not visible, but padding for bearing
can be seen in the location.
At column 4B, the northern corbel has cracked significantly at one corner of the corbel (Figure 27).
The cracked portion is hanging from the corbel by a small section of concrete at the top of the corbel.
Due to spatial constraints, measurements could not be made, but the section of concrete hanging from
the corbel appears to be about ½in thick. Small pieces of concrete were found on the ground in this
area, suggesting that the corbel is slowly deteriorating. Bearing pads appear to be in use on the
southern corbel only, which shows no signs of deterioration.
The northern corbel at column 3B is beginning to crack along one of its corners (Figure 28). Spatial
constraints did not permit actual measurements, but the crack appears to be 0.012in 0.025in wide. Due
to the presence of drywall in the area, it is difficult to gauge the depth of the crack as the attached
drywall could be helping to holding the concrete in place. The southern corbel does not exhibit any
signs of deterioration. Bearing pads appear to be utilized on both corbels.

The Dangers Of Cell Phone Use While Driving
Introduction In the United States, there are many states and cities that have passed laws where
individuals should not use hand held phones or text while driving, however, none of these laws
actually restricts a person from using a phone while driving. The National Safety Council reported that
each year an estimated of 1.6 million car crashes are due to people using their cell phones while
driving (Texting and Driving Accident Statistics, 2017). One of the biggest reasons that car accidents
occurs is because the driver was not paying attention to the road and the things around them. There are
many things that can distract a person while they are driving, such as; using the navigation, eating,
drinking, playing with the radio, talking on the phone, and even texting. In a single day, approximately
660,000 drivers habitually use their cell phone while they are driving (Texting and Driving Accident
Statistics, 2017). This is why the nonprofit organization known as FocusDriven, has been so devoted
and passionate about banning the use of cell phones while driving and fighting to make it be illegal
and unacceptable in the eyes of the law. As an advocate, this paper is a policy proposal which includes
research studies showing data that supports why cell phone use while driving should be banned and
possible solutions to take the necessary steps in order to prevent drivers from becoming distracted and
hopefully reducing the number of car crashes and fatalities caused by cell

Disney creates gender roles, racial roles, and white supremacy through socialization within their
motion pictures. For example, Walt Disney s Snow White , Fantasia , and even The Little Mermaid all
show females as obscenely beautiful, male dependent and flirtatious creatures who couldn t save
themselves from a Chinese finger trap. Males are the perfectly sculpted rescuers who can be easily

3. Describe a specific example of how Disney can unintentionally set the roles between a man and
woman in an abusive relationship.
In the movie Beauty and the Beast , the role of a man and woman in an abusive relation is practically
spelled out and strait from Disney s female lead jar. Belle is kidnaped by the Beast and forced o live in
the dungeon until her father is ripped away from her. During this time she is completely defenseless to
the Beasts onslaught and often retreats within herself and rarely confronts him. Beast on the other
hand, portraying an abusive male, does everything to a tee. He yells, bangs on doors, throws furniture,
and even threatens starvation when Belle goes against him. Belle, being the kind and gentle female
lead, looks past all his rage and finds he prince inside; highlighting the common problem in abusive
relationships. The abused partner holding onto the hope that their abuser will change, that they will
love them and show them the tenderness that used to be there. Women (could also be men) are
supposed to take the abuse and wait it out, showing nothing but love while the abuser rampages and
eventually, things will be just like the fairy tales.

Westward Expansion
While the western United States was growing rapidly, the means on transportation across the great
plains was a very long and dangerous trek. With the growing desire for western settlements, the
Transcontinental Railroad would offer a much faster and safer means of travel to the western states.
The railroad would also be capable of carrying goods to and from the West.
There were some primary motives for the United States Government to promote and be so largely
involved with the building of the railroad. First, it was the age of Manifest Destiny, a term coined by
journalist John O Sullivan in 1845, was a driving force in 19th century America s western expansion.
It was the notion that Americans and the institutions of the U.S. are morally superior and therefore
Americans are morally obligated to spread those institutions ( Westward Expansion ). The building of
the Transcontinental Railroad would be an enormous step in this process, making the settlement of the
west much more inviting to people, as well as making the process of western expansion much faster.
Secondly, the fact of being able to send troops much quicker to the Western states. There was great
conflict between settlers and the Native Americans once the flood of people began. This brought the
need for the troops to protect the settlers, and eventually, to force the rightfully resilient Native
Americans onto reservations. Third, as California continued to grow in population, the United States

Arm Wrestling With My Father Rhetorical Analysis
The relationship between a father and their child is tremendously salient, and will influence the life of
both the parent and the adolescent in many ways. Often, it can be difficult for someone to share their
personal relationships that they had with their father, as it can be a very delicate subject. Despite this,
renowned authors Brad Manning and Sandra Cisneros are two people who chose to write about their
unique experiences and childhoods that they shared with their fathers. Both Brad and Sandra felt their
childhood relationships with their fathers were unorthodox. This was explicitly outlined in Brad s
freshman composition paper titled Arm Wrestling With My Father and Sandra s magazine article titled
Only Daughter. Through varying rhetorical strategies, the authors purpose and audience is clearly
portrayed in both selections. One of the most important components to any piece of writing is the
intended audience. In Arm Wrestling With My Father, Manning s intended audience is anyone who
may have had an abnormal or physical relationship with their father. He wanted his paper to be read
by individuals that grew up with a lack of emotional love and an abundance of physical contact with
their fathers. Although there was love between Manning and his father, it was clear that neither party
wanted to acknowledge it. He wrote this in his freshman composition course at Harvard, knowing that

A calm and kind man at the front desk by the main entrance of the synagogue nodded and brightly said
Shabbat Shalom . I was hesitant and confused on how to answer, but I certainly continued my
salutation response in English and further explained the reason for my visit. After introducing myself
and indicating the reason of my visit, Warren Snaider, a friendly and very knowledgeable lay leader
and one of the synagogue ushers warmly welcomed everyone into the service immediately after
passing the main desk person. Mr. Snaider also repeated the same words Shabbat Shalom, each time
he did this, out of curiosity I inquired about the meaning of Shabbat Shalom, which he merely said; it
translates as happy or peaceful Shabbat. Mr. Snaider, as I preferred to call him that day, offered
everyone a prayer book called siddur to be used by all worshippers during the service. This book
contained most of the prayers that were used in service. A lay leader, Morris Paula, conducted the
proceeding and she was in charge of the service, while several leaders participated performing
different roles throughout the service. After everyone was accompanied to their seats, commencing the
service, Paula ordered the congregation to stand and sing a song from the hymnbook called Shalom
Aleichem (Peace Be upon You), which she said was to welcome and bless the Shabbat angels into the
service.

  • 2. Sdafsdf HIST 415 Vietnam and the Twentieth Century Experience General Instructions for All Written Assignments Each week you will have a short written assignment. Though each assignment is slightly different, this should serve as general instructions for all assignments. Formatting: All assignments should be completed as Microsoft Word documents. They should be between 2 and 3 pages and be double spaced with standard indentation. The font should be size 12, Times New Roman. You should create a short title page including your name, the date, the assignment title, and the instructor s name. The page limit does NOT include the title page or bibliography. Writing: Your writing should demonstrate both a factual understanding of the topic at hand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... + Unsatisfactory (less than 14 points). The student does not know enough facts about the argument, and does not use clear logic to support the facts they do know. 20 Points for Formatting Formatting refers to the student s ability to communicate effectively within the paper. This refers to grammar, proper formatting of the document, and syntax. A student also receives credit for having the proper page length (2 3 pages). A paper with three or less mistakes will receive 15 19 points. A paper with multiple minor mistakes will receive anywhere between 10 14 points, while a paper which is presented too poorly to be considered a college level paper will receive anywhere from 0 13 points. I cannot overemphasize the importance of formatting in the written assignments. Always make certain to use spell checker and to reread your paper at least two times before submitting. You will be amazed at the number of mistakes you will catch this way. 10 Points for Sources Sources must be formatted properly in APA or MLA style. There is no set amount of sources needed, but a student must remember that they should be able to back up each statement with a reliable source. If you are using dates, statistics, or facts that are not common knowledge, it is usually proper to use a citation. Also, the quality of sources will be graded. • 3. Criminalization Of Homelessness This case study examines homelessness and some of the difficulties encountered when trying to solve this problem. The woman in the story, Tracy, works for Fairmont Christian Housing Alliance. Tracy does not support the new panhandling legislation, which allows police the power to give citations for intimidating conduct if it is accompanied by an act of solicitation (Pg. 93). She does not feel that further criminalization of homeless will stop their panhandling and will not promote positive change. Unfortunately, due to the possible loss of funding sources, her employer and other service providers have chosen to publicly support the new law. • 4. Literature with the theme of self-destruction The act of being self destructive does not just come to be. It occurs slowly and takes hold in individuals to varying degrees, contingent upon how cold they are, and by their level of self absorption and conceited desires. A combination of these characteristics can be discerned in each of the protagonists from the literary forms I studied. Each character is self destructive, but the consequences of their actions and the number of people they hurt tends to magnify depending on how many of these characteristics they appear to demonstrate. What unites these characters is their ultimate self destruction, resulting in the death of three out of four characters studied here. These four characters are Macbeth, from the play Macbeth by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Kenny then turned the gun towards Tub, Tub s emotions escalated into fear, which had instant consequences for Kenny, as Tub reacted on those emotions, without thinking. Society can learn from these examples. Listening to our feelings and recognising emotions, should be something we are taught to heed. They are a prime source of information, working to keep us safe. Macbeth and Kenny teach us that strong emotions like guilt and fear are therefore important because they have the power to prevent repetition of cruel acts that have negative consequences. Becoming cold and callous, by blocking access to feelings, is an important teaching tool for society. An additional flaw that facilitates the destruction of the character s self is the egotistical, conceited self absorption the protagonists Eddie, Ben, and Macbeth have in themselves. This is evident in Eddie Carbone s inability to compromise when he finds his incongruous desires for his Niece threatened by Rodolfo, an Italian immigrant staying in America with the Carbone family to escape the impoverished conditions in Italy. As Catherine s relationship with Rodolfo strengthens, Eddie s personal desires and feelings towards Catherine become increasingly more obsessive and conspicuous. He voices his resentment and antagonism towards Rodolfo, determined to prevent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Upton Sinclair s The Jungle From the arrival of Jurgis family to an America that was not what they expected, to the loss of all hope in their lives, Upton Sinclair s The Jungle shows many instances where the immigrants and workers of the industries are severely exploited. Sinclair traveled to the stockyards in Chicago in order to observe the conditions the workers lived and worked in. What he found was disturbing, disgusting, and something of major importance to the public. Sinclair then decided to write his story about the abuse of the workers, published the story, and accurately called it The Jungle , since the chaos in Packingtown could be compared to an actual jungle. His novel was considered to be a part of a newer type of writing, called yellow journalism, since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His narrative is part of numerous attempts to document those living on the margins of American society , which is why the story is considered to be part of yellow journalism (Connery). Upton Sinclair s The Jungle provides an excellent example of the yellow journalism and muckraking that opened the eyes of many Americans during the 1900 s by showing the exploitation of the workers, the conditions of the workplace, and the products sold to the public. Before the time of muckrakers and yellow journalists came along, the conditions held in workplaces like Jurgis were disgusting and nauseating, but the public had no clue of any of this since this news was not being shared with the public. In The Jungle , many secrets about the sanitation and work laws conducted in the industries were kept secret from the public. Sinclair s character, Jurgis, provides an excellent point of view as a worker having to make a living in these conditions. For example, Jurgis points out that the livestock the businesses used for food production was unfit to be fed to human beings, saying that the meat was old and crippled and diseased , steerly , or covered in boils , and of course, company owners kept this from the public to continue sales and production (Sinclair 709). Nanabozho s Acceptance Of Ethnic Myth Ethnic Myth Myth, a myth is a traditional story, especially one concerning the early history of a people or explaining something natural that a culture believes. Myths are very important to religion and they help to define different cultures through storytelling and legends. Personally I had many different myths to choose from, having a very mixed background. I chose a tale that meant something to me and my family, the myth of how the rainbow was made. This legend is a Native American tale, told by the Tohono O odham people. Its very light and happy that s one of the reasons why it was told to me was a kid. This myth may seem like just a children s story but it has a deeper meaning that anyone can interpret for themselves. First of all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Everyone can have their own opinion, but for me I think the lesson or moral of this tale is to go with the flow and to have fun, also to not be a downer and to not rain on others parades because in the end the ones having fun could do something amazing. This myth demonstrated that to me because the two little birds were just having fun and playing their games when Nanabozho scolded them for having a good time, and when the birds continued and didn t listen to him being a downer they ended up creating something beautiful that even Nanabozho himself couldn t deny was incredible, so you should never listen to others who are trying to hold you back from having a blast and just being silly and fun. The origin and history of this myth is mostly unknown, no one really knows how this story came to be and when, but people do know that this tale originated from the Ojibwe Nation and was retold by S. E. Schlosser. After that other tribes started to adopt the myth of how the rainbow was made, including my tribe the Tohono O odham Nation. People also know that this tale is very old that s one of the reasons why no one knows when it was created because it was so long ago. So the background and origin of this myth is for the most part a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Froma Harrop s essay New Threat to Skilled U.S. Workers and Thomas Friedman s essay 30 Little Turtles discuss two different viewpoints of job outsourcing, and their effects on society. Does our government really want to cut back on job outsourcing, and what can society do to help the issue? Thomas Friedman has taken a very different approach when trying to grab his audience s attention. 30 Little Turtles, by Thomas Friedman is emotional essay that appeals to pathos. Artists such as Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque introduced the cubism and collages, and defied the need for art to be literal and straightforward as much art was before the twentieth century. His architecture was quite known in Europe for its progressive and sleek style. When it came down to deciding on how he would design his works, he followed his system called, purism . Purism involved the consideration of two things: practical need and the search of archetypes. According to Frampton, he wanted only what was practical and necessary to be considered in the designs, and looked for intellectually stimulating and functional shapes. He believed in the constant improvement and innovation of architecture; he did not agree with typical, traditional European style. He based his architecture on an utopia and created all his designs to resemble a modern, city like utopia that was ideal for automobiles. The only time he was really introduced was during the trial of Jesus. He was acknowledged a few times to show he was the one who followed through with the crucifixion, and then he ceased to be brought back up again. However, the book Pontius Pilate by Paul L. This was a confidence booster for Pilate because it reaffirmed his authority of Rome. Not surprisingly, he didn t stop there. Pilate made sure the Jews felt guilty about the crucifixion. It was said that Pilate washed his hands clean of Jesus blood. After, the Jews replied by saying, His blood be on us and on our children (238). Pilate operated the whole production so the blame would be focused on the Jews and not him. I was very shocked to see such evil works from a man. It is interesting to note that this law restricted the states before the 14th Amendment was applied. Chief Oshkosh s life, while worthy of being understood on its own, tells a much larger story of how white Americans treat Native American figures. All of the images are active, and they all do their part in moving your eyes around the painting. The mural consists of a total of three walls and a ceiling all covered with images that seem to converge toward the middle wall. The central wall is the most controversial wall as far as content is concerned. This wall seems to depict capitalism as it manipulates the political powers of the world. Your eyes are drawn to a creature that looks like the lovechild of an engine and an octopus. This image is a large mechanism known as the infernal machine . Above the infernal machine is a huge metal plated eagle known as the imperialist eagle . To the left of the infernal machine, there are three figures that stand for the principal bourgeois democracies: France, Great Britain, and the United States. The right side features three fascist regimes: Hirohito, Mussolini, and Hitler. The infernal machine is pumping a fuel that reminds me of blood. • 26. Hunger Games Movie Analysis CLOSE UPS The movie that I chose to analyze is The Hunger Games. This movie is about a girl, Katniss Everdeen, who volunteers as tribute for the seventy fourth annual Hunger Games in the place of her sister, Primrose Everdeen, whose name was picked and announced at the reaping. Katniss, the protagonist played by Jennifer Lawrence, is forced to go outside of her comfort zone when she has to make friends and train to kill people in order to win the Games and come home to her sister, Primrose, who is played by Willow Shields. The Hunger Games was directed by Gary Ross and was released on March 23rd, 2012. The year that this movie was made, a Canadian filmmaker, named James Cameron, became the first person to visit Challenger Deep, the US President Barack Obama secured Democratic presidential nomination, and The Avengers premiered in Los Angeles. Watching this movie, now in 2017, still gives me the same feeling it did when I watched it for the first time in 2012. I can see that the cast and crew for The Hunger Games were picked out carefully. That being said, I thought this movie was marvelous. The crew did a great job with the elements used in determining the type of movie, mise en scene, cinematography, acting, editing, and sound. There are many types of movies, such as narrative movies, documentary movies, and experimental movies. This movie is an example of a narrative movie. This movie is fiction and entertains most people. • 27. Economic Globalization Is The Growing Integration Of World... Economic globalization is the growing integration of world markets and the intensifying interdependence of global economies. The process has social and economic costs as well as benefits. The process is both critiqued and lauded by scholars. On one hand it provides opportunities and growth while on the other hand it creates an unequal distribution of wealth also while hurting workers rights. At the conclusion of World War II, Harry White and John Maynard Keynes aimed to create a financial strategy to liberate the world economy from the extensive restrictions and controls levied during the war. At the Bretton Woods conference, they provided proposals which strengthened American economic hegemony (Rodrik). This happened because both White and Keynes recognized that domestic economic needs outranked global economics (Rodrik). The goal of the Bretton Woods conference was to stimulate moderate economic globalization. Dani Rodrik praises the unification of global markets and trade liberalization after the Bretton Woods conference. He especially lauds Keynesian globalization, which gives states discretion in trade policy and regulation. According to Rodrik, the Bretton Woods conference was successful in fostering economic trade after years of war and rivalry. However, he does critique trade liberalization and multilateral international institutions that emerged out of Bretton Woods, such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), General Agreements on Tariffs and Trade ... The Principles of Leadership, Group Dynamics and Team Building In this paper, I will discuss many theories and the impact they have on leadership, group dynamics and team building, and how those principles have affected me in my career and how I will apply these principles in the future. Vision Manning and Curtis define leadership as social influence that results in change. It is initiating action that results in change. (Manning G., p. 1) Dynamic leadership is the driver behind performance and results. Leaders need to create a clearly define vision, and communicate it in such a way as to earn buy in from others. Clarity of objectives will drive the right action, which will insure deliverables and goals are achieved. (Gill, 2015) The principle behind vison is that everyone is aware of the desired goal and vision, and can then efficiently work toward accomplishing that goal. A leaders ability to communicate the vision and achieve a common goal and focus dramatically affects the effectiveness of their team and the success or demise of the business. I have found that leaders who fail to motivate, or lack self confidence to be weak and ineffective. Good leaders are knowledgeable and trustworthy they are people who are ambitious and results driven. The National Safety Council reported that each year an estimated of 1.6 million car crashes are due to people using their cell phones while driving (Texting and Driving Accident Statistics, 2017). One of the biggest reasons that car accidents occurs is because the driver was not paying attention to the road and the things around them. There are many things that can distract a person while they are driving, such as; using the navigation, eating, drinking, playing with the radio, talking on the phone, and even texting. In a single day, approximately 660,000 drivers habitually use their cell phone while they are driving (Texting and Driving Accident Statistics, 2017). This is why the nonprofit organization known as FocusDriven, has been so devoted and passionate about banning the use of cell phones while driving and fighting to make it be illegal and unacceptable in the eyes of the law. As an advocate, this paper is a policy proposal which includes research studies showing data that supports why cell phone use while driving should be banned and possible solutions to take the necessary steps in order to prevent drivers from becoming distracted and hopefully reducing the number of car crashes and fatalities caused by cell ... With the growing desire for western settlements, the Transcontinental Railroad would offer a much faster and safer means of travel to the western states. The railroad would also be capable of carrying goods to and from the West. There were some primary motives for the United States Government to promote and be so largely involved with the building of the railroad. First, it was the age of Manifest Destiny, a term coined by journalist John O Sullivan in 1845, was a driving force in 19th century America s western expansion. Arm Wrestling With My Father Rhetorical Analysis The relationship between a father and their child is tremendously salient, and will influence the life of both the parent and the adolescent in many ways. Often, it can be difficult for someone to share their personal relationships that they had with their father, as it can be a very delicate subject. Despite this, renowned authors Brad Manning and Sandra Cisneros are two people who chose to write about their unique experiences and childhoods that they shared with their fathers. Both Brad and Sandra felt their childhood relationships with their fathers were unorthodox. This was explicitly outlined in Brad s freshman composition paper titled Arm Wrestling With My Father and Sandra s magazine article titled Only Daughter. Through varying rhetorical strategies, the authors purpose and audience is clearly portrayed in both selections. One of the most important components to any piece of writing is the intended audience. In Arm Wrestling With My Father, Manning s intended audience is anyone who may have had an abnormal or physical relationship with their father. He wanted his paper to be read by individuals that grew up with a lack of emotional love and an abundance of physical contact with their fathers.
