The Short Speech Of Apple
Question One: What strikes you as surprising in these videos? Why? According to the videos, which
existing assumptions must be challenged?
After watching these videos, two things surprise me. First, I am surprised by Political frame, which
presents the conflict side of an organization because I have never think about this side of an
organization. When it comes to the views of a company, I may normally ignore the political side and
just focus on the structures, managers and employees. After watching this video, I finally recognized
the importance of the political frame for a company. What s more, the Framing Organization put the
symbolic as one of the four parts of the frames surprise me. I would think that the symbolic of a
company is important, but I have never put it on a same importance level as structural and human
resources. One thing does not surprise me, but I want to mention is the short speech of Apple. A
company, which is greatly collaborative, like Apple, has had the basis to success.
In my opinion, there are two existing assumptions must be challenged: role of employees and
importance of collaborations. The existing assumption, which is managers decide everything and
employees are not considerable must be changed. In new perceptions, human resources has became
one of the most important parts of an organization. Employees actually the people who creates profits
and their importance is not lower that employers and managers. The assumption that will also be

How Did Rachel Carson Use To Change The World
When the Pen Was Mightier Than the Sword: Rachel Carson s Use of Prose to Change the World
The famous author and ecologist, Rachel Carson, singlehandedly managed to start an environmental
movement with the power of her writing. The sharp contrast of the beauty that she described and the
disaster that was happening prompts many a reader to take up arms and defend the world that they live
in. Rachel used her writing talent to emphasize the contrast between how the world used to be and
what it had and will become. Her powerful words created images within the readers minds of the
horrors to come if nothing happens, by giving us glances of what had already happened. In her
revolutionary book Silent Spring, the beauty of her prose juxtaposed by the evil of her topic makes the
book extraordinary. Her use of beautiful descriptions of the natural world contrast with the destruction
that pesticides can cause. It makes us realize that the world around us truly is beautiful but can be
destroyed easily. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though Carson did not want to write for a living, both reading and writing were a big part of her
life from an early age. She was a quiet child who preferred reading over socializing and also submitted
articles to the children s literary magazine St. Nicholas. After a college education at John Hopkins, she
had to give up her dream of getting a doctorate once the Depression hit and her father passed away, in
order to support her family (Linda Lear 23). She began working at the US Fish and Wildlife Service,
FWS, where she reconnected with her childhood passion for nature and made many valuable

Case Study Of Audit Diagnostics
Market type, Marketing Strategy, Market share, competition:
From the information gathered in this report, it is clear that Audit Diagnostics had neither sufficient
presence in their market type nor focus on their marketing strategy. I believe this is what ultimately
caused their downfall. With most other companies we would be discussing advertising, promotions
and relationships with other companies, but Audit Diagnostics marketing is so undeveloped, the
website has not even been designed. They have no presence on TV, in newspapers or even online.
Audit Diagnostics is the perfect example of a company that failed to recognize the importance of
marketing. As a consequence the company has failed and is going into liquidation.
Competition: Based in Carrigtwohill, Co. Cork, there are many pharmaceutical companies in
surrounding areas such as GE Healthcare and Pfizer. If we are looking at Audit Diagnostics as a whole
(i.e. a company creating and innovating in the field of biology), then many competitors could be
identified including those mentioned above. But due to the wide range of products and services it is
necessary to delve deeper into the specifics of what Audit Diagnostics did in ... Show more content on

Their principal activity was manufacturing pharmaceutical products. This means that essentially their
consumer base consisted of people with treatable illnesses or injuries. Looking at Audit Diagnostics

market type was not the same as most other companies. In order to get products to their consumer
base, they had to re direct products into the hands of healthcare professionals across the country. This
is also crucial for health and safety reasons due to the sensitivity of their products. Audit Diagnostics

Pros And Cons Of Propaganda
Propaganda is not a recent idea or concept however since the creation of film propaganda has found its
way into them, especially documentary s. Documentary filmmaking is a platform and mode of
filmmaking associated with truth and actuality to present an overview of a topic or issue (Aufderheide,
2007). Audiences expect this when watching documentary films because generally the topic of a
documentary film is based on a real issue and/or event without the use with actors, sets and special
effects (with the exception of docudramas) (Nichols, 2010). Although they may be based on a real
world issue/event the filmmaker(s) behind the documentaries have an agenda and are trying to push
certain ideologies or points of view on the audience. However, the assumption is made that they are
doing this through fact and truth (Bizz). Propaganda on the other hand does not rely on truth or fact as
it is an idea of dishonestly. Propaganda never tries to persuade or inform instead it attempts to deceive
an audience by conveying/creating representations and ideas in a text that can only have one dominant
reading (Aufderheide, 2007). Propaganda filmmaking is usually created by governments and political
figures to impose hateful/nationalistic viewpoints and ideologies on the general populous
(Aufderheide, 2007). Triumph of the Will (Riefenstahl, 1935) and Prelude to War (Capra, 1943)
demonstrate that documentaries have the ability to create a false representation of history due to the

Outline and Assess Marxist Explanations of Crime
Outline and assess Marxist explanations of crime
Marxist and neo Marxist approaches and explanations of crime are arguably some of the most
controversial, for the reason that they state that it is the ruling class that is responsible for
criminalising the working classes, which goes directly against what official statistics and
Functionalists believe. However, Marxism and Functionalism do share a similarity in that both believe
structures and institutions of society play a very important role in determining how people behave,
criminally or otherwise.
Marxist sociologists argue that in order to understand crime and deviance, one needs to realise that it
is the nature of exploitative economic systems that capitalist societies have in ... Show more content

Functionalists argue that it represents everyone s interest whilst feminists argue it represents men s
interests.
The Neo Marxist new criminology developed in the early 1970 s is also key to understanding how
Marxists explain crime. Taylor, Walton and Young s work maintained that crime was best understood
in the context of capitalism and the inequalities it creates. One way that the neo Marxists slightly
differ with the traditional Marxist theories is that it says there is more freedom of choice that people
have when choosing to commit crime and people are not just puppets of the economy. Here it could be
said that the Neo Marxists are taking interactionist theories on board and are moving away from the
structuralist theories of traditional Marxism and Functionalism. With their book The New
Criminology Taylor et al. attempted to come up with a fully social theory of deviance and looked into
the importance of the labelling of certain groups within society as being criminal, in their case it was
black working class men being labelled as criminal and dangerous by the law and order systems as
well as the media. The book analyses the crisis faced by British capitalism during the recession of the
1970 s and the resulting threat to the authority of the state. It argues that the state responded to this
crisis by mounting a law and order campaign which lead to a moral panic over mugging. As a result,
black youth became increasingly

Post Lab Calculation Essay
Post lab Questions: What effect would poor circulation of the melting point bath liquid have on the
observed melting point?
Poor circulation of the melting point bath would cause inaccurate measurements, either lower or
higher than the actual melting point of the tested compounds. Poor circulation can cause different
temperatures in the bath. In specific, the measured temperature is at the location of the thermometer,
while the sample s temperature could have experienced a different temperature from what was
indicated. What is the effect of an insoluble impurity, such as sodium sulfate, on the observed melting
point of a compound?
It is apparent that the impurity must be soluble in the compound, so insoluble impurity will not

It is crucial to heat the melting point bath slowly and steadily when the temperature gets close to the
melting point, in order to ensure sufficient time for complete transfer of heat from the bath, through
the capillary tubes to the compound. Why is it important to pack the sample tightly in the melting
point capillary?
It is vital to pack the sample tightly in the melting point capillary, to allow good heat transfer from the
capillary walls to the crystals. The less air is present, the better the heat will transfer. An unknown
compound is suspected to be acetanilide (mp 113.5°C 114°C). What would happen to the melting
point if this unknown were mixed with (a) an equal quantity of pure acetanilide? (b) an equal quantity
of benzoic acid? If the unknown were mixed with an equal quantity of pure acetanilide, the melting
point would have the same melting point. The addition of equal quantity of benzoic acid (melting
point: 122°C) would make the mixture melt at a temperature below that of pure acetanilide. In fact, it
would result in a lower, broader melting range, for instance, 95°C

Tick, tock, tick, tock. The cogs in the clock spin and whir in harmony with an express purpose of
moving the hands around the face, each part of the machine fulfilling its task. Like the clock, factories
and companies require each link in the chain to work together in order to reach their full potential. The
task of coordinating, arranging, fitting all these pieces together in order to reach maximum efficiency

Australian Involvement In The Vietnam War
The Vietnam War was a Cold War era proxy war sparked in the 1950s between the capitalist supported
South Vietnam and the communist supported North Vietnamese. Marking history as the world s first
ever televised war, the Vietnam War was subject to widespread criticism and protest, sparking a clear
divide between the Australian population. The Vietnam War period and its political fallout have left a
staggeringly significant impact on both Australian foreign affairs and culture. While there were a
variety of factors leading the Australian population to the conflict, the main defining doctrine that the
ruling Australian elite and the general population as a whole was to draw the line in terms of how far
Communism s clutches may spread. The Domino ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For many years following the war, large numbers of Vietnam veterans had a sense that they
themselves were blamed for the war and the manner in which it was conducted, not the politicians.
Some veterans recall being harassed and labelled as baby killers, rapist and murders upon their return
to Australia. For men who regarded themselves as generally having fought more humanely and
professionally than their American counterparts, this was a harsh, bitter blow. For mere men whom
had lost friends in combat and viewed war atrocities through their very own eyes, as a lot of soldiers

and controversy spouted from veterans of earlier conflicts suggested that Vietnam was not a real war
severely demoralised Vietnam veterans and caused a divide between former veterans and newly
arrived veterans from seeking comradeship and understanding of fellow servicemen. It wasn t until the

Before I begin my critical book review on Rediscovering Values: On Wall Street, Main Street, and
Your Street by Jim Wallis, I would like to give a brief background of the author Jim Wallis. Jim Wallis
is best known as the founder of a Christian social justice magazine called Sojourns. Wallis describes
himself as being an Evangelical Christian and is perceived by many as being a Progressive
Evangelical Christian. Jim Wallis is the author of eleven different books including his most recent

Wallis closes with a list of twenty different ethical exercises for those who want to see a
transformation in themselves and also in the way that individuals do things throughout America. This
list has been very supportive and attentive to many Americans who have believed in this list of ethical
exercises. The ethical exercises are divided into four different sections: individual and family;
throughout the community; money, labor, and politics; and grow the modifications. Just by reading
this book, I can see that Jim Wallis is a very influential and intriguing person to learn from through his
writing style and concern for others. Wallis concludes this book on a rediscovery of our moral values
with a fresh definition of labor, a clear objective on a clean and clear cut economy, taking on any type
of service as a vocation and actually wanting to perform needs for others, and a discussion about the
renovation of the government. In the end, We are still confronted with the fact that three billion people

Guns Should Not Be Infringed Essay
Will not be Infringed or Do Not Tread on Me On the 15th of December, 1791, the second amendment
was adopted along with 9 other amendments alongside it. A well regulated militia, being necessary to
the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. When
the founding fathers wrote this statement, it was a written as a command, stating the right of the
people to keep and bear arms shall NOT be infringed. When the founding fathers wrote this, they
meant it in a sense so that the people can keep their government from becoming tyrannical such as
King George did. Without the amendment, the government could walk all over the people without

without a means of self defense. I understand the need to protect lives, but more guns in the hands of
law abiding citizens will result in more lives saved. When politicians pass these laws, they must also
realize criminals don t follow the same laws as law abiding citizens. If a person means to do harm,
they will figure out how do carry it out, whether it is against the law or completely legal. Take a look
at Great Britain, they don t allow their citizens to own firearms, but there are still killings. People strap
explosives to themselves, run and slash people with a knife or even plow their car into crowds of
people. If a person had a firearm, the driver couldn t possibly hurt as many people as he intended to.

Summary Of My Papa s Waltz By Theodore Roethke
My Papa s Waltz written by Theodore Roethke in 1942 is a bottomless dark poem in which the
narrator starts off by stating The whiskey on your breath could make a small boy dizzy. Leaving the
daunting image in the poem of the boy s father being a heavy drinker, while reminiscing through his
childhood bringing back the memories of how their relationship transpired. Roethke uses assonance,
rhyme schemes and a variety of different themes to convey his love for his father even through his
faults. Theodore Roethke was born in Saginaw, Michigan in 1908 he was only fourteen years old
when he lost his father due to cancer. He idolized him following him everywhere and anywhere,
because he was his hero. Roethke spent a lot of his younger days working in a greenhouse with his
father they practically lived there considering all the hours they spent together there. My Papa s Waltz
is just one of the many poems that the greenhouse is reflected in his writing. From the beginning of
this poem in the first two lines presented in the introduction Roethke leaves us with the connotation of
his father has been drinking whiskey and it has not been light drinking. He has drank so much that it
has stained his breath to the point where it could make a young boy dizzy as it does with his son. By
saying his son hangs on to him like death shows us that he has become dizzy by his breath and using
the word death shows it is not one of the better memories he has in the vault of their relationship.

Persuasive Essay On School Uniforms
Americans spend large amounts of money every year on clothes, when their children return to school.
Students want name brand clothing that comes with a high price tag, and not all parents can afford
these expensive brands; due to this, it leaves their children to be ridiculed by the students who parents
can. The mocking from peers affects students emotionally. Another issue with students being able to
decide for themselves what to wear is their choice to wear inappropriate attire. There is much
controversy within schools when determining what clothing is considered appropriate or
inappropriate. The argument has been made that by requiring students to wear uniforms it takes away
their individuality. This encourages the students to focus on their outward appearance more than their
inner characteristics. In the past attitudes toward school uniforms has been negative, but according to
West, Tidwell, Bomba, and Elmore, This practice is changing as more U.S. public school
administrators have become interested in the use of school uniforms (pg.92). Students should be
required to wear uniforms to school because it reduces the cost of school clothes, makes everyone
equal, and removes the issue of inappropriate attire.
Every year parents spend large amounts of money on clothes for their children in preparation for the
beginning of a new school year. This price increases with the desire to purchase expensive name brand
clothes to fit in with other students. School uniforms can

would just collapse on the couch in the living room and be there until morning. But all that has
changed. I now drive myself to and from dialysis, and I feel just fine after. I even have a part time job

The Drug Created For Pregnant Women
Thalidomide was a drug created for pregnant women in 1957.It was first introduced on the market in
west Germany on October 1, 1957. It was created to help combat symptoms associated with women s
morning sickness, but it caused more harm than good. It created a worldwide epidemic. It was created
as a harmless sleeping pill. Thalidomide created many birth defects affecting 10,000 children
worldwide like phocomelia and Amelia . Thalidomide could be bought without a prescription from the
doctor in west Germany. Thalidomide was put in other markets like in the United Kingdom.
Thalidomide is now a clinically effective and strictly restricted drug and treats leprosy and multiple
myeloma.
When taken in the first trimester thalidomide prevented the proper growth of the fetus, and resulting in
a birth defect in thousands of children around the world. When taken in first world countries between
day 20 to 36 of fertilization. The child or children would be born with limb and other birth defects.
During the 1950s and 1960s the children were known as Thalidomide babies. The damage or the drug,
which manifested itself in the form of absence or severe deformation of the extremities ( arms, legs,
hands and feet) and sometimes damage to the eyes, ears and internal organs. One pill during the first
three to four months is enough to cause these birth defects.
Thalidomide did not affect all child birth, depending on when it was taken. Thalidomide did not affect
all species in the same way.

Niccolo Machiavelli And Socrates
Ask any student to name five great philosophers. Odds are, Niccolò Machiavelli and Socrates are
among the five. Growing up in different times with similar abundant political turmoil and uncertainty,
Machiavelli and Socrates developed ideas of how to deal with such unrest. On one hand, Machiavelli s
ideas resulted in a work titled The Prince, informing leaders how he believed they should conduct
themselves in order to be effective. In Machiavelli s mind, an effective leader is one that keeps his
state united. Socrates, however, denounces traditional government and has a less clear goal, which is
to gain wisdom by talking to people. He believes strongly in morality, ethics, and knowledge. Both
philosophers have a concept called virtue (or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of what is known about Socrates is from secondhand accounts of his life because Socrates did
not publish any works of his own. Though he has no original pieces of writing, he still remains one of
the most well known philosophers in history. Hundreds of years later in 1469, Niccolò Machiavelli
was born in Florence, Italy to a wealthy family. Though his father was poor, Machiavelli was able to
live a very comfortable lifestyle. He was born into an Italy where there was no hereditary monarch, no
centralized government, and corruption running rampant. Machiavelli decided to serve in the military
and became defense secretary. In this job, he traveled on diplomatic missions for his principality, met
influentials like Louis XII of France, Pope Julius II, and Cesare Borgia, and visited the Spanish courts.
In 1512, the Medici family (not supportive of Machiavelli) took back power and dissolved the new
Italian republic forged by the Borgia family. The family then accused Machiavelli of conspiracy, and
he was imprisoned, tortured, and sent to exile south of Florence. This is where and when Machiavelli
wrote his famous work, The Prince, loosely based off Cesare Borgia and his fairly successful
acquisition of much of central Italy. In The Prince, we see that Machiavelli s views are straightforward
and point towards a goal. Machiavelli s end goal is to create a unified Italy under a leader whose
primary concern is to keep the state united. The Prince simply and logically

supposed to be run effectively. In the 220+ years that this country has been founded, the powers of the
federal government have grown exponentially. The Framers, influential white men from the original
13 colonies(minus Rhode Island), consisted of those who wanted a strong central government and
those for strong state rights. Together, through a series of compromises, the Framers created the
original unamend Constitution. Once sent out to the states for ratification, it was sent back to include
the civil liberties that every citizen has, The Bill of Rights. After four years, the Constitution was
ratified, and became the law of the new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Articles failed to lead the country through war debts, multistate and international trade
agreements, and Shay s Rebellion. Like any war, the American Revolution was very expensive to
have, especially on their own turf. The country borrowed money from the richer states in the form of
war bonds, and when it was time to pay up, the country did not have the money, and defaulted on
repayment. Congress did have the ability to create coin, but no ability to back it up. Plus, without
having access to tax (the states kept rejecting Congress s proposal), there was no way to raise revenue.
After the war was over, multiple states made trade agreements with different, and at times, conflicting
countries. This was a dangerous game, because as states in the same unified country, a foreign entity
may see one state trading with a country that they do not associate with, and another state may miss
out on that trade opportunity that might benefit the country as a whole. The catalyst that brought the
entire Articles down is Shay s Rebellion. 1500 farmers marched to the Massachusetts capital to ensure
the state does not close their mortgages, and the state government was too broke to muster up an army.
After the other states refusal to help, Massachusetts had to use private funds to pay an army to put it
down. All in all the Articles of Confederation created a weak central government, which led the
Founders having to come together(O Connor 32 34).

Technology Is An Ever Changing Learning Tool
Technology is an ever changing learning tool that requires a lot of thought and a lot of practice in
order to utilize it well. There are times when I feel like a leader and there are times when I am the
student in the field of technology. I do understand the importance of using it within my classroom, but
often I do not have the time to use it correctly or to its full potential. Oncu, Delialioglu Brown (2008)
state that while there is more technology in classrooms, there is little evidence that these technologies
are integrated into instruction (p.20). In order for technology to be effective, it must be implemented
well in order to be effective. In any case, technology is a 21st century skill and it needs to be embraced
in the educational community. Standard I: Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity.
At this point, I have been utilizing our new Canvas system by creating online quizzes and discussions.
The discussions promote both student reflection and collaborative knowledge among peers. Students
are able to reflect on questions posed at the beginning of the original post and often must use textual
evidence to support their claim. Once they have posted, they are required to reply to at least one other
classmate s response. I believe they engage in learning through this online, face to face environment.
Additionally, this format allows the instructor to model an original post as well as actively respond to
students posts with a reply of

Mothers And Daughters Have Those Typical Mother Daughter...
Most mothers and daughters have those typical mother daughter talks. You can compare them to a rite
of passage that continues for a period of time. The goal is to gain a closer bond between the two
females. Every once in a while, a mother will sit down with her daughter and they will talk about
anything. The topics can range from boys to advice or just describing your day. A mother isn t
supposed to be your best friend, that s not her role. She is a confidant or a great listener who
unconditionally loves you. My mother possesses those qualities; they just aren t usually put to use.
Each time we have our mother daughter talks they tend to be at the weirdest times: while driving me
to dance practice, while doing my hair, when I m trying to go to bed, etc. There is nothing wrong with
that. I know my mom is really busy. Between finishing work projects at home, cooking dinner and
raising five kids (I m including my father and our two dogs), this woman doesn t get a moment to
herself. So, our mother daughter talks turn out to be unconventional, at least compared to television
examples and what my friends talk about. I don t mind though. Our uniqueness makes our talks much
more memorable.
For example, our unforgettable first mother daughter talk. It was a late Tuesday night in September.
My six year old brother was already asleep, my dad was downstairs watching TV, and my mother was
doing my hair for my 7th grade picture day. As per usual, we waited until the night before

What Is The Theme Of Finding Forrester Change
Billy Cox once said, Life will only change when you become more committed to your dreams then
you are to your comfort zone . The repetitive theme in the movie Finding Forrester is change; whether
this be a change in a person s personality, or a change that affects others, change is consistently
present throughout the movie. The two main characters in Finding Forrester are Jamal Crawford and
William Forrester. Jamal is a 16 year old boy known mainly for his basketball skills. After state
testing, the results reveal that Jamal s writing skills are extremely above average. After being dared to
sneak in to a potential stalker s house, Jamal leaves his bag with all his writings in them. William
Forrester, a well known author who secluded himself from society after a family tragedy, finds ...

The willingness to adapt change can cause the promotion of transformation that can impact other

Forrester is a man that does not leave his house. This is tested when Jamal finds himself in trouble for
a plagiarism accusation and only Forrester can help. Movielocity (2001, p.3) It comes down to a
moment of truth for both men: for Jamal, a choice between following his dream or betraying a friend,
and for Forrester, a decision to remain closed off or to look at the world through new eyes. This means
that Forrester had a choice. He could remain secluded, or he could tell Professor Crawford that he
gave Jamal permission to use his writing, which means leaving his home. Furthermore the impact that
Jamal had on Forrester is exemplified when Forrester makes the transformation to help Jamal. Jamal
has had an impact on him that he feels like he has to help him. Forrester adapted to the change, it not

Reflection Paper On Moral Disengagement
Introduction
We live in a society in which unethical actions are always justified as moral because the majority are
involved in the deeds. We always face an ethical dilemma in different situations, and it becomes
difficult to make a rational decision. This reflection paper aims at exploring the issue of moral
disengagement. Reasons for moral disengagement will be discussed.
What?
From the reading, I understand that people think and act differently when faced with ethical issues.
For one to make a rational decision, an extensive process of judgment is required (Bandura, Caprara,
Zsolnai, 2000). For an individual to be responsible, he or she should put into consideration the
magnitude of the consequences of the actions, social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Justification of a wrong action would be a moral disengagement. Unethical actions always cause
severe consequences to society. Currently, there are cases of cheating and secret use of unwanted
written materials during exam times. They portray unpreparedness and laziness on the part of a
student. It is unethical since it does not show faithfulness and integrity in studies. Teaching from this
material helps me to be dependable and not to be morally disengaged because of diffusion of
responsibility. Unethical conduct can be attributed to the behavior of a particular group. The teaching
is important to me because I have learned on how to be responsible for my actions and to act ethically
even at a student level. The practice of morals at a young age will help me to remain ethical even at
old age.
Lastly, there are emerging issues observed in the media which involve people displaying their
nakedness to the public. Such deeds demonstrate lack of self respect, and there is no particular
individual to blame since it was one provoked by only one victim and other people followed. Reading
from the material provided concerns me that I should practice personal values and ethics and
emphasize on self respect and individual principles. It is important to me that I have learned to respect
myself and not to be controlled by habits.
Now What?

Trial Validity
Discussion
Overall what the study shows is that as the time between cue and target increases people s
performance tends to shift inversely. This is displayed as shorter instances (100ms) found individuals
responding faster, relative to when they were longer (500ms) to which individuals would respond
slower if they appeared on the same side, with only a minor increase when they appeared on the
opposite. Another interesting finding from the study was that trail validity had no statistically
significant effect on response times, essentially meaning that how likely a target was to appear had no
real effect on how well individuals performed in the study.

As previously mentioned, one of the key findings from the current study was that ... Show more

Furthermore, seeing that the current study only variates the SOA 50ms below and 200ms from
previous research it would be interesting to see if the IOR continues to increase under circumstance

is either indicating that the processes used are a complex combination of the two or plausibly that the
measures used in this research weren t capable of seeing the difference. Future research should aim to
rectify this issue.
Overall this study provides some interesting insight into the field as it found that even in scenarios
were the cues offer no insight into the next location of the target, the same IOR effect can be seen.
This research found that trial validity appeared to have no effect on performance, implying that
individuals do not simply shift attention to or from but rather do a complex combination of the

Singing is a universal language. It is a way of human s self expression. A way in which you can show

personal satisfaction when singing because it is a fun way to express themselves or perhaps internalize
the song. Singing is defined as the production of musical tones by means of the human voice. The
parts of the human body, specifically the lungs, voice box, larynx, stomach, the tongue and lips are

Noah Vs Gilgamesh
Various culture around the world at various times have written myths about catastrophic floods. These
myths contain different reasons and purposes behind the flood and why it was sent. Two of the most
notable and strikingly different flood accounts are Noah and the great flood found in Genesis, and the
Sumerian flood found in the Epic of Gilgamesh. The differences in these flood accounts are who
started the flood, the way these two cultures related to the divine, and blank.
The first major difference in these two tales is who initiated the flood. In the genesis account the flood
is initiated by one God, because the Jewish people where monotheistic. This notion of one god also
unifies the twelve tribes of Israel into one people. The ten commandments provide an excellent ...

In the Genesis account, God s reward for Noah s justness, is that he will be allowed to live, and his
family will repopulate the Earth. I will not again curse the ground any more for man s sake; for the
imagination of man s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more everything
living, as I have done. God s reward to all of humanity is to never destroy the world again regardless
of humanities wickedness and sinfulness. The Jews interpreted these things as the mercy and
forgiveness of God. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, Utnapishtim receives a very different reward then Noah
did in Genesis. He touched our forehead and, standing between us, he blessed us: Previously
Utnapishtim was a human being. But now let Utnapishtim and his wife become like us, the gods!
Utnapishtim and his wife were granted immortality, but the rest of the people received nothing. This

Tourette Syndrome Research Papers
Tourette syndrome is a disorder that affects people worldwide, no matter what age, ethnic group, or
race. It is a disorder characterized by uncontrollable, repetitive motor or vocal actions called tics.
Though not much is known about how TS is passed on, how it can be prevented, or the causes, there is
still research being conducted on how TS can be treated and about TS itself.
Not much is known about how TS is passed on over generations or the causes. Yet that does not stop
scientists from forming guesses. Scientists once believed that it was an autosomal dominant disorder.
Though this has been dismissed as false, there are other ideas of where this disorder comes from. One
hypothesis says that TS comes from a mutation on the SLITRK1 gene because this has been found in
few people with TS. But this is not proven to be the sole cause of TS. That of which is not known.

Research Report On Neonatal Mortality
Introduction: World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that neonatal mortality contributed to 38%
of under 5 mortality (1). Therefore reduction in neonatal mortality is an important target of WHO
(Millennium Development Goal 4 aimed at reduction under 5 mortality by two thirds by the year
2015). This can be achieved by provision of high quality neonatal care units equipped to offer
continuous observation, monitoring and intensive treatment to sick neonates. In order to give the best
available services, these neonatal units need continuous evaluation. Studying outcome of neonates
admitted to neonatal units is an important parameter of evaluation. Worldwide, many published
studies reported very different outcomes in terms of mortality and morbidity rates (2, 3, 4, 5). This can
be explained by different nature of population, different environmental conditions, different study
designs, variability in available resources and different patterns of neonatal problems from country to
another. Therefore mortality and morbidity figures can not be applied globally and each neonatal unit
needs to have its own figures. This helps strategic management planning and redirection of available
resources especially in developing countries where resources are very limited. Aim: To study Outcome

Essay on To Be of Use by Marge Piercy
Marge Piercy s poem To Be of Use expresses an opposing connotation about the idea of work. Most
people believe the words hard work carry a negative connotation. What these words imply is not
something that is generally received with enthusiasm but is often accepted either by force or
obligation. The poem s central theme is that satisfaction and self fulfillment can be attained by using
one s skills to serve a specific function in life, for it is the opinion of the speaker that an unproductive
existence has no value or significance because it is vain, and pointless. Piercy uses figurative

The Impact Of Music On The Music Industry
No one can deny that technology is actively changing the music industry. Production, distribution and
sales of music have been affected dramatically within the last 10 years along with artists, composers,
and technicians. Most of the changes have been great for consumers, but vastly negative for
professionals in the music industry, however a few artists have found ways to adapt to the changing
atmosphere of digitally downloaded music and use it to their advantage. We ve seen music change
form from physical, tangible products like records and CD s to electronic single tracks stored in an
invisible cloud. Two major factors in this sudden revolution are online music stores (specifically
iTunes) and file sharing websites that allow music to be downloaded illegally.
Since the iTunes music store was introduced on April 28, 2003, gross music sales have plummeted in
the United States from $11.8 billion in 2003 to $7.1 billion in 2012, according to the Recording
Industry Association of America (Covert). Counterintuitively, during that time consumers were buying
more music than ever. How is that possible? It s because iTunes had made digital singles popular and
was selling them cheap. This would change the music industry forever. In 2000, Americans bought
943 million CD albums (Covert), and digital sales didn t even make a dent in comparison. But by
2007, those inexpensive singles overtook CDs by a wide margin, generating 819 million sales
compared to just 500 million for the CD.

pay for his education. In 1843, Mendel s father expected him to take over the family farm, but Mendel
started studying to be a monk instead. Marie worked as a governess until she saved up enough money
at the age of 24, to buy a train ticket to Paris to begin her studies at Sorbonne. She made ends meet by

Darwin s book The Origin of Species talks about how species evolve by means of mutation and
natural selection. Another way that Mendel s theory on Genetics impacts society is our food. Genetics
is used to yield better crops and the reproduction of animals. Marie Curie identified both polonium
and radium in 1898 and describe the elements as radio active. Marie and her husband Pierre shared the
Noble Prize in physics with Becquerel in 1903. And in 1911, she received a second Nobel Prize, this
time in Chemistry.
In conclusion, Mendel and Curie both had a positive impact on the world of Allied Health. Mendel s
work with pea plants contributed to the Allied Health field by giving the fundamental laws of genetics.
Radioactivity that Curie helped discovered led to new therapeutic and diagnostic methods in medicine.
Mendel s experiments led to a greater understanding of genetics. As you can see, Mendel had a greater
impact on society because his laws about genetics affects our crops, our own human genetics and the

Themes In Vertigo
Vertigo is a 1958 American Psychological thriller film directed by one of the best director of all times,
Alfred Hitchcock. The movie shows many contexts like fear, obsession and fantasy. The movie starts
when John (Scottie) Ferguson (James Stewart) a detective retires from his job when his fellow officer
loses his life falling from the height. In this moment, he accidentally gains acrophobia (fear of height).
His friend Gavin Elster (Tom Helmore) wants him to tail and follow Madeleine (Kim Novak) who is
acting weird and strange recently. Scottie blames himself and feels guilty when he can t save
Madeleine from jumping off the tower. The film throughout the time shows the different contexts to
relate the theme of obsession and sexual fantasy. The film is one of the top example in use of camera,
cinematography, score and direction. The movie successfully portrays how love turns into obsession,
how fear leads these characters into different madness, by the perfect use of color, cinematography
and use of characters. Color is one of the essential part of the movie. The use of color can determine
various emotions in the film. It can add richness to any scene. The use of white has always shown to
describe the peace and purity, whereas the red describes rage, anger and bad. Black is color of mystery
usually used to show the darkness, evilness of a scene. Hitchcock is a big fan of use of color, he has
perfectly used the colors to demonstrate the characters build up and add the depth to it. Scottie sees
Madeleine for the first time in the restaurant wearing a dark green color dress which makes her focus
among the other people. Scottie starts feeling something her, next day again when he follows her,
Madeleine drives green car which again tries to state that she is the main focus. The use of alternative
colors in the movie depicts how the characters are build up to the story, red is shown as the Scottie s
obsession, fantasy and love whereas green to create this uncanniness, and unrealism and yellow as a
reality, and truth of the matter.
In the next scene, Madeline drives to Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco which is red. She was
again showed in a green dress, which matches the sea color green. She jumps into the sea

Low Back Pain (LBP)
Low back pain (LBP) is cited as the second most common musculoskeletal problems for which
treatment is sought by individuals. An estimated 90% of LBP reported in clinical practice is
categorized as idiopathic or nonspecific , meaning that the underlying pathoanatomy is unclear.
Spinal manipulation (SM) has been identified as efficacious treatment methods, especially for patients
with nonspecific LBP. Early use of thrust manipulation among patients with LBP has been claimed for
better outcomes and provides rapid recovery (Laerum et al., 2007). High velocity, low amplitude
(HVLA) thrust techniques of the spine are also known by several names, e.g. High Velocity Thrust
Manipulation, Spinal Adjustment, and Grade V mobilization. Thrust manipulation ... Show more

The Effects Of Long Term Meditation Practices On The...
Abstract Substantial research has been done on the positive effects of long term meditation practices
on the promotion of cognitive functions. However, the effects of brief meditation practices have not
been as thoroughly researched. Accordingly, this study will further investigate the effects of short term
mindfulness based training (MT) on the multiple traits of attentional processing. I hypothesize that
brief MT can have similar results to that of long term practices, indicating that meta cognition can be
improved in a short period of time. This experimental study will compare a MT group, a relaxation
group, and a control group all made up of inexperienced participants on their performance of higher
order processing of attentional tasks. We predict that the MT group will do better than the other groups
on all tests administered, and that they will improve significantly compared to their previous
performance.
Key words: Meditation, Mindfulness, Meta cognition, Attention
Introduction
Many recent studies have validated that people who have practiced mindfulness based training and/or
meditation express greater cognitive flexibility. Mindfulness is a psychological state characterized by
full attention to a present experience without elaboration of thought or emotional reactivity while
focusing on the sensations of one s breath and body and maintaining relaxation. Thus, MT heightens
meta cognitive processing to an extent (Austin, 1998 as found in Zeidan, Johnson,

Social Development And Journey Towards Autonomy
In 2009, I decided I wanted to be on birth control, even though I did not fully know my body or
complete family history. Soon after, I suffered from a Pulmonary Embolism, a blood clot in my lung.
The shortness of breath and severe agonizing chest pains were almost too horrible to bare. My life
almost came to a screeching halt. It was then I found out my family suffered from a genetic disorder
and my mother realized we needed more open communication. Having open communication with in
the family positively influenced our family structure, in ways I could never have imagined. Now I felt
safe and secure in asking my mother everything; sex, love, school, whatever it be. Parent and child
relationships are a key factor in an adolescences social development and journey towards autonomy.
Our textbook, Exploring Lifespan development (Berk, 2010), states that teenagers still need guidance
and protection from dangerous situations. In diverse ethnic groups and cultures, warm, supportive
parenting that grants young people freedom to explore while making appropriate demands for maturity
fosters autonomy, [...] favorable self esteem, and ease of separation in the transition to college (p.
329). Open discussion with the family and adequate education are necessary to helping adolescents
achieve a high standard of sexual education and autonomy. It is at this point in my life that I met my,
now husband, Joseph. Before writing my paper, I put together my video photo collage and after

Japanese Education vs American Education
Analysis of Japanese Business Culture
Along with recent globalization, the business market is now diffused everywhere in the world.
Consequently, mega competition and international co operation are promoted simultaneously in the
field of business. Under this circumstance, learning and understanding the business culture each
country has is important to succeed in global business. As business culture is indivisible from a
country s cultural uniqueness, American style business is formed in the United States, and British style
business is adopted in England. Equally, Japan has developed its own unique business culture which
has been practiced for a long time. This essay will analyze the characteristic Japanese business culture

For instance, in order to shift from a totally unknown relationship to a familiar relationship, most
Japanese salesman tend to have many short visits with an exchange of only few words, without talking
about their products and services. It is important for Japanese businessmen to create intimacy with
clients in an indirect way. Moreover, after the familiarity relationship is established, it is necessary to
maintain this relationship by bringing gifts on every visit, sending special summer gift (chugen) and
year end gift (seibo), and exchanging the massive cards, such as summer cards, new year s cards and
sympathy cards. Japanese business deals depend largely on the personal acquaintance rather than the
profit arithmetic.
As described previously, there are some unique customs in
Japanese style business. However, the characteristic of Japanese business culture which is even now
ingrained has come under criticism.
Clark, Professor of Economics at University of California argued that
Japanese society was an anachronism that did not lose its ancient tribal character until quite recently,
for which reason the Japanese people have been able to maintain their groupistic value orientation up
to the present. (Okada, 1984) Actually, Japanese companies which consistently observe their
traditional business practices are now under intense pressure to meet international management
standards. It is pointed out that the Japanese business culture has some

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Beauveria
Beauveria is well known genera of Entomopathogenic fungi. It is worldwide registered for its
mycoinsecticides properties. Beauveria bassiana (Bb) and Beauveria brongniarti are used to control
insect pests (5). Beauveria bassiana is a filamentous fungus which belongs to the class Deuteromycete,
that grow naturally in soil. It acts as pathogen to various insects and causes white muscardine disease
(6 10). Bb has a wide range of host and insect pests. It can be used against vectors in human diseases
(11). Wang et al., (12) and Liz et al., (13) reported that Bb is used to control insects in forests such as
pine caterpillar and silkworm. The penetration of EPF such as B.bassiana is through insect cuticle

Beauvericin is a cyclooligomer depsipeptide ionophore that helps in the transportation of monovalent
cations across membranes as a free carrier uncoupling oxidative phosphorylation (20). Beauvericin
shows an important biological activities as antifungal and antibiotic properties in vitro (21), and
antifungal agents in combinatorial therapies (22). Along with above functions, In 2004 Jow et al., (23)
reported beauvericin as a broad spectrum antiproliferative agent which fight against different human
cancer cell lines by activating calcium sensitive cellular apoptotic pathways. It also inhibits the
directional cell motility or haptotaxis which is essential for the formation of new blood vessels in case
of on tumor or cancer tissues at subcytotoxic concentrations (22), invasion of other tissues by cancer
cells, and metastasis (24). Wang and Xu, (25) reported that beauvericin has antitumour activity against
cancer cell lines. During the molecular docking studies of about 36 protein structures of cancer
molecules retrieved from PDB are docked with the anticancer drug beauvericin and negative binding
energy of the docked complex was calculated. Binding free energy reveals the drug resistance of
anticancer and finds the interaction between the active site and substrate of oncogene. These findings

Problem Set Exercise 1 1. An interrupt is used by device controller to inform the CPU that the
operation by Device controller is finished. In general, an occurrence of any event can be signaled by
interrupt, from hardware or software. 2. A trap, also called interrupt, is generated from the software,
due to an error or a user request. 3. A multiprogramming is used to keep the CPU busy most of the
time, i.e. increase utilization of system CPU. This is due to the fact that multiprogramming is
performed by job scheduling, i.e. with the subset of all the jobs kept in memory. Thus when CPU has
to wait, then OS switches to another job for keeping CPU busy. 4. Some instructions are privileged

Similarities Between Edgar Allan Poe And Stephen King
In every time period there is always a writers that dominates a certain genre. These individuals are
masters in their fields and can evoke the deepest feeling in their readers. There are many of these
writers in every generation for every genre. In the field of horror two writers should spring to
everyone s mind. Edgar Allen Poe and Stephen King. Both writers have made their marks in literature
for exploring the darker sides of imagination producing writings that can leave readers shaken from
freight. Although both authors are from different time periods they have similarities in writing that
shows their skills. Not only do both writers have similarities in their life styles they both led similar
lives . Edgar Allan Poe was born in 1809 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1947 he was born to Nellie Ruth Pillsbury King. His mother single handedly took care of both king
and his brother while moving about the country following their father who was not apart of their lives.
Unlike Poe s guardian Ms.King was always supportive of her son s writing career, and encouraged
him to write as much as possible. Despite similarities in their lives both homes were very different.
Poe live in a financially stable house but with a parent who was emotionally detached, and did not
support his desire for writing. King lived in a home that was financially unstable, but received support
from his mother. His desire to write, and his mother s support led him to accomplish many great
things. King s writing started from a very early age. a He submitted hundreds of stories to different
publications in the genres of horror. King received his college education at the University of Maine in
Orono. He lacked the finances to pay for his education so he worked a fulltime job to order to pay his
tuition. By the time he reached college he had several writings published and was becoming very
serious about it. He remained focused in college and blossomed as a writer in the experience. Perhaps
this is where the core difference exists between Poe and King ;one lacked a strong emotional
foundation in his youth and went on to make disastrous choices, consequently keeping him out of
reach of success within his lifetime.

  • 2. The Short Speech Of Apple Question One: What strikes you as surprising in these videos? Why? According to the videos, which existing assumptions must be challenged? After watching these videos, two things surprise me. First, I am surprised by Political frame, which presents the conflict side of an organization because I have never think about this side of an organization. When it comes to the views of a company, I may normally ignore the political side and just focus on the structures, managers and employees. After watching this video, I finally recognized the importance of the political frame for a company. What s more, the Framing Organization put the symbolic as one of the four parts of the frames surprise me. I would think that the symbolic of a company is important, but I have never put it on a same importance level as structural and human resources. One thing does not surprise me, but I want to mention is the short speech of Apple. A company, which is greatly collaborative, like Apple, has had the basis to success. In my opinion, there are two existing assumptions must be challenged: role of employees and importance of collaborations. The existing assumption, which is managers decide everything and employees are not considerable must be changed. In new perceptions, human resources has became one of the most important parts of an organization. Employees actually the people who creates profits and their importance is not lower that employers and managers. The assumption that will also be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. How Did Rachel Carson Use To Change The World When the Pen Was Mightier Than the Sword: Rachel Carson s Use of Prose to Change the World The famous author and ecologist, Rachel Carson, singlehandedly managed to start an environmental movement with the power of her writing. The sharp contrast of the beauty that she described and the disaster that was happening prompts many a reader to take up arms and defend the world that they live in. Rachel used her writing talent to emphasize the contrast between how the world used to be and what it had and will become. Her powerful words created images within the readers minds of the horrors to come if nothing happens, by giving us glances of what had already happened. In her revolutionary book Silent Spring, the beauty of her prose juxtaposed by the evil of her topic makes the book extraordinary. Her use of beautiful descriptions of the natural world contrast with the destruction that pesticides can cause. It makes us realize that the world around us truly is beautiful but can be destroyed easily. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She was a quiet child who preferred reading over socializing and also submitted articles to the children s literary magazine St. Nicholas. After a college education at John Hopkins, she had to give up her dream of getting a doctorate once the Depression hit and her father passed away, in order to support her family (Linda Lear 23). She began working at the US Fish and Wildlife Service, FWS, where she reconnected with her childhood passion for nature and made many valuable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Case Study Of Audit Diagnostics Market type, Marketing Strategy, Market share, competition: From the information gathered in this report, it is clear that Audit Diagnostics had neither sufficient presence in their market type nor focus on their marketing strategy. I believe this is what ultimately caused their downfall. With most other companies we would be discussing advertising, promotions and relationships with other companies, but Audit Diagnostics marketing is so undeveloped, the website has not even been designed. They have no presence on TV, in newspapers or even online. Audit Diagnostics is the perfect example of a company that failed to recognize the importance of marketing. As a consequence the company has failed and is going into liquidation. Competition: Based in Carrigtwohill, Co. Cork, there are many pharmaceutical companies in surrounding areas such as GE Healthcare and Pfizer. If we are looking at Audit Diagnostics as a whole (i.e. a company creating and innovating in the field of biology), then many competitors could be identified including those mentioned above. But due to the wide range of products and services it is necessary to delve deeper into the specifics of what Audit Diagnostics did in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their principal activity was manufacturing pharmaceutical products. This means that essentially their consumer base consisted of people with treatable illnesses or injuries. Looking at Audit Diagnostics supply chain, it is clear they were at the beginning of the distribution channel. This means that their market type was not the same as most other companies. In order to get products to their consumer base, they had to re direct products into the hands of healthcare professionals across the country. This is also crucial for health and safety reasons due to the sensitivity of their products. Audit Diagnostics market type consisted of medical wholesalers, hospitals, pharmacies and even doctors ... • 6. Pros And Cons Of Propaganda Propaganda is not a recent idea or concept however since the creation of film propaganda has found its way into them, especially documentary s. Documentary filmmaking is a platform and mode of filmmaking associated with truth and actuality to present an overview of a topic or issue (Aufderheide, 2007). Audiences expect this when watching documentary films because generally the topic of a documentary film is based on a real issue and/or event without the use with actors, sets and special effects (with the exception of docudramas) (Nichols, 2010). Although they may be based on a real world issue/event the filmmaker(s) behind the documentaries have an agenda and are trying to push certain ideologies or points of view on the audience. However, the assumption is made that they are doing this through fact and truth (Bizz). Propaganda on the other hand does not rely on truth or fact as it is an idea of dishonestly. Propaganda never tries to persuade or inform instead it attempts to deceive an audience by conveying/creating representations and ideas in a text that can only have one dominant reading (Aufderheide, 2007). Propaganda filmmaking is usually created by governments and political figures to impose hateful/nationalistic viewpoints and ideologies on the general populous (Aufderheide, 2007). Triumph of the Will (Riefenstahl, 1935) and Prelude to War (Capra, 1943) demonstrate that documentaries have the ability to create a false representation of history due to the filmmaker s ... • 7. Outline and Assess Marxist Explanations of Crime Outline and assess Marxist explanations of crime Marxist and neo Marxist approaches and explanations of crime are arguably some of the most controversial, for the reason that they state that it is the ruling class that is responsible for criminalising the working classes, which goes directly against what official statistics and Functionalists believe. However, Marxism and Functionalism do share a similarity in that both believe structures and institutions of society play a very important role in determining how people behave, criminally or otherwise. Marxist sociologists argue that in order to understand crime and deviance, one needs to realise that it is the nature of exploitative economic systems that capitalist societies have in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Functionalists argue that it represents everyone s interest whilst feminists argue it represents men s interests. The Neo Marxist new criminology developed in the early 1970 s is also key to understanding how Marxists explain crime. Taylor, Walton and Young s work maintained that crime was best understood in the context of capitalism and the inequalities it creates. One way that the neo Marxists slightly differ with the traditional Marxist theories is that it says there is more freedom of choice that people have when choosing to commit crime and people are not just puppets of the economy. Here it could be said that the Neo Marxists are taking interactionist theories on board and are moving away from the structuralist theories of traditional Marxism and Functionalism. With their book The New Criminology Taylor et al. attempted to come up with a fully social theory of deviance and looked into the importance of the labelling of certain groups within society as being criminal, in their case it was black working class men being labelled as criminal and dangerous by the law and order systems as well as the media. The book analyses the crisis faced by British capitalism during the recession of the 1970 s and the resulting threat to the authority of the state. It argues that the state responded to this crisis by mounting a law and order campaign which lead to a moral panic over mugging. As a result, black youth became increasingly ... Poor circulation can cause different temperatures in the bath. In specific, the measured temperature is at the location of the thermometer, while the sample s temperature could have experienced a different temperature from what was indicated. It is crucial to heat the melting point bath slowly and steadily when the temperature gets close to the melting point, in order to ensure sufficient time for complete transfer of heat from the bath, through the capillary tubes to the compound. Why is it important to pack the sample tightly in the melting point capillary? It is vital to pack the sample tightly in the melting point capillary, to allow good heat transfer from the capillary walls to the crystals. The less air is present, the better the heat will transfer. An unknown compound is suspected to be acetanilide (mp 113.5°C 114°C). What would happen to the melting point if this unknown were mixed with (a) an equal quantity of pure acetanilide? (b) an equal quantity of benzoic acid? If the unknown were mixed with an equal quantity of pure acetanilide, the melting point would have the same melting point. Australian Involvement In The Vietnam War The Vietnam War was a Cold War era proxy war sparked in the 1950s between the capitalist supported South Vietnam and the communist supported North Vietnamese. Marking history as the world s first ever televised war, the Vietnam War was subject to widespread criticism and protest, sparking a clear divide between the Australian population. The Vietnam War period and its political fallout have left a staggeringly significant impact on both Australian foreign affairs and culture. For many years following the war, large numbers of Vietnam veterans had a sense that they themselves were blamed for the war and the manner in which it was conducted, not the politicians. For men who regarded themselves as generally having fought more humanely and professionally than their American counterparts, this was a harsh, bitter blow. For mere men whom had lost friends in combat and viewed war atrocities through their very own eyes, as a lot of soldiers in the war, were appalled at the fact that following the orders directed by their very own government was, in some instances, being used against them. On Wall Street Main Street Summary Before I begin my critical book review on Rediscovering Values: On Wall Street, Main Street, and Your Street by Jim Wallis, I would like to give a brief background of the author Jim Wallis. Jim Wallis is best known as the founder of a Christian social justice magazine called Sojourns. Wallis describes himself as being an Evangelical Christian and is perceived by many as being a Progressive Evangelical Christian. Jim Wallis is the author of eleven different books including his most recent publication: The (Un) Common Good: How the Gospel Brings Hope to a World Divided. The ethical exercises are divided into four different sections: individual and family; throughout the community; money, labor, and politics; and grow the modifications. Just by reading this book, I can see that Jim Wallis is a very influential and intriguing person to learn from through his writing style and concern for others. Wallis concludes this book on a rediscovery of our moral values with a fresh definition of labor, a clear objective on a clean and clear cut economy, taking on any type of service as a vocation and actually wanting to perform needs for others, and a discussion about the renovation of the government. When the founding fathers wrote this statement, it was a written as a command, stating the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall NOT be infringed. When the founding fathers wrote this, they meant it in a sense so that the people can keep their government from becoming tyrannical such as King George did. When politicians pass these laws, they must also realize criminals don t follow the same laws as law abiding citizens. If a person means to do harm, they will figure out how do carry it out, whether it is against the law or completely legal. Take a look at Great Britain, they don t allow their citizens to own firearms, but there are still killings. People strap explosives to themselves, run and slash people with a knife or even plow their car into crowds of people. • 15. Summary Of My Papa s Waltz By Theodore Roethke My Papa s Waltz written by Theodore Roethke in 1942 is a bottomless dark poem in which the narrator starts off by stating The whiskey on your breath could make a small boy dizzy. Leaving the daunting image in the poem of the boy s father being a heavy drinker, while reminiscing through his childhood bringing back the memories of how their relationship transpired. Roethke uses assonance, rhyme schemes and a variety of different themes to convey his love for his father even through his faults. Theodore Roethke was born in Saginaw, Michigan in 1908 he was only fourteen years old when he lost his father due to cancer. He idolized him following him everywhere and anywhere, because he was his hero. Roethke spent a lot of his younger days working in a greenhouse with his father they practically lived there considering all the hours they spent together there. My Papa s Waltz is just one of the many poems that the greenhouse is reflected in his writing. From the beginning of this poem in the first two lines presented in the introduction Roethke leaves us with the connotation of his father has been drinking whiskey and it has not been light drinking. He has drank so much that it has stained his breath to the point where it could make a young boy dizzy as it does with his son. By saying his son hangs on to him like death shows us that he has become dizzy by his breath and using the word death shows it is not one of the better memories he has in the vault of their relationship. ... • 16. Persuasive Essay On School Uniforms Americans spend large amounts of money every year on clothes, when their children return to school. Students want name brand clothing that comes with a high price tag, and not all parents can afford these expensive brands; due to this, it leaves their children to be ridiculed by the students who parents can. The mocking from peers affects students emotionally. Another issue with students being able to decide for themselves what to wear is their choice to wear inappropriate attire. There is much controversy within schools when determining what clothing is considered appropriate or inappropriate. The argument has been made that by requiring students to wear uniforms it takes away their individuality. This encourages the students to focus on their outward appearance more than their inner characteristics. In the past attitudes toward school uniforms has been negative, but according to West, Tidwell, Bomba, and Elmore, This practice is changing as more U.S. public school administrators have become interested in the use of school uniforms (pg.92). Students should be required to wear uniforms to school because it reduces the cost of school clothes, makes everyone equal, and removes the issue of inappropriate attire. Every year parents spend large amounts of money on clothes for their children in preparation for the beginning of a new school year. This price increases with the desire to purchase expensive name brand clothes to fit in with other students. School uniforms can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Growing up in different times with similar abundant political turmoil and uncertainty, Machiavelli and Socrates developed ideas of how to deal with such unrest. On one hand, Machiavelli s ideas resulted in a work titled The Prince, informing leaders how he believed they should conduct themselves in order to be effective. In Machiavelli s mind, an effective leader is one that keeps his state united. Though he has no original pieces of writing, he still remains one of the most well known philosophers in history. Hundreds of years later in 1469, Niccolò Machiavelli was born in Florence, Italy to a wealthy family. Though his father was poor, Machiavelli was able to live a very comfortable lifestyle. He was born into an Italy where there was no hereditary monarch, no centralized government, and corruption running rampant. Machiavelli decided to serve in the military and became defense secretary. In this job, he traveled on diplomatic missions for his principality, met influentials like Louis XII of France, Pope Julius II, and Cesare Borgia, and visited the Spanish courts. In 1512, the Medici family (not supportive of Machiavelli) took back power and dissolved the new Italian republic forged by the Borgia family. The family then accused Machiavelli of conspiracy, and he was imprisoned, tortured, and sent to exile south of Florence. This is where and when Machiavelli wrote his famous work, The Prince, loosely based off Cesare Borgia and his fairly successful acquisition of much of central Italy. In The Prince, we see that Machiavelli s views are straightforward and point towards a goal. Machiavelli s end goal is to create a unified Italy under a leader whose primary concern is to keep the state united. The Prince simply and logically ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Articles failed to lead the country through war debts, multistate and international trade agreements, and Shay s Rebellion. Like any war, the American Revolution was very expensive to have, especially on their own turf. The country borrowed money from the richer states in the form of war bonds, and when it was time to pay up, the country did not have the money, and defaulted on repayment. Congress did have the ability to create coin, but no ability to back it up. Plus, without having access to tax (the states kept rejecting Congress s proposal), there was no way to raise revenue. After the war was over, multiple states made trade agreements with different, and at times, conflicting countries. This was a dangerous game, because as states in the same unified country, a foreign entity may see one state trading with a country that they do not associate with, and another state may miss out on that trade opportunity that might benefit the country as a whole. The catalyst that brought the entire Articles down is Shay s Rebellion. 1500 farmers marched to the Massachusetts capital to ensure the state does not close their mortgages, and the state government was too broke to muster up an army. After the other states refusal to help, Massachusetts had to use private funds to pay an army to put it down. Therefore reduction in neonatal mortality is an important target of WHO (Millennium Development Goal 4 aimed at reduction under 5 mortality by two thirds by the year 2015). This can be achieved by provision of high quality neonatal care units equipped to offer continuous observation, monitoring and intensive treatment to sick neonates. In order to give the best available services, these neonatal units need continuous evaluation. Studying outcome of neonates admitted to neonatal units is an important parameter of evaluation. Worldwide, many published studies reported very different outcomes in terms of mortality and morbidity rates (2, 3, 4, 5). This can be explained by different nature of population, different environmental conditions, different study designs, variability in available resources and different patterns of neonatal problems from country to another. This might not be a big issue for some people; however, there are performance enthusiasts who seek pace in their vehicles; perhaps all electric vehicles aren t the best option for them. As a conclusion, all electric vehicles are designed perfectly to give at least damage as possible to nature unless the electricity required to run the vehicles is produced by non eco friendly power plants, but there are plent of power plants that use sun, wind, water and nuclear energy in order to get electricity, and their numbers are constantly rising throughout the world. The only downside of all electric vehicles is certainly the battery; whereas, most people are optimistic about this issue as fueleconomy.gow states, However, researchers are working on improved battery technologies to increase driving range and decrease recharging time, weight, and cost. Living in Tampa, FL I conclude from this and from the knowledge I have regarding my state, that the biggest threat would be from rising waters and flooding due to extreme weather. This is prevalent in Florida due to the state being so close to sea level. Watching the news recently the world has been able to see the devastation caused by Hurricane Matthew in the coastal areas of Florida and the other southern states, as well as Haiti. This I imagine is a result of climate change. 3. Did they surprise you? Why or why not? • 39. The Impact Of Music On The Music Industry No one can deny that technology is actively changing the music industry. Production, distribution and sales of music have been affected dramatically within the last 10 years along with artists, composers, and technicians. Most of the changes have been great for consumers, but vastly negative for professionals in the music industry, however a few artists have found ways to adapt to the changing atmosphere of digitally downloaded music and use it to their advantage. We ve seen music change form from physical, tangible products like records and CD s to electronic single tracks stored in an invisible cloud. Two major factors in this sudden revolution are online music stores (specifically iTunes) and file sharing websites that allow music to be downloaded illegally. Since the iTunes music store was introduced on April 28, 2003, gross music sales have plummeted in the United States from $11.8 billion in 2003 to $7.1 billion in 2012, according to the Recording Industry Association of America (Covert). Counterintuitively, during that time consumers were buying more music than ever. How is that possible? It s because iTunes had made digital singles popular and was selling them cheap. This would change the music industry forever. In 2000, Americans bought 943 million CD albums (Covert), and digital sales didn t even make a dent in comparison. But by 2007, those inexpensive singles overtook CDs by a wide margin, generating 819 million sales compared to just 500 million for the CD. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. The Effects Of Long Term Meditation Practices On The... Abstract Substantial research has been done on the positive effects of long term meditation practices on the promotion of cognitive functions. However, the effects of brief meditation practices have not been as thoroughly researched. Accordingly, this study will further investigate the effects of short term mindfulness based training (MT) on the multiple traits of attentional processing. I hypothesize that brief MT can have similar results to that of long term practices, indicating that meta cognition can be improved in a short period of time. This experimental study will compare a MT group, a relaxation group, and a control group all made up of inexperienced participants on their performance of higher order processing of attentional tasks. We predict that the MT group will do better than the other groups on all tests administered, and that they will improve significantly compared to their previous performance. Key words: Meditation, Mindfulness, Meta cognition, Attention Introduction Many recent studies have validated that people who have practiced mindfulness based training and/or meditation express greater cognitive flexibility. Mindfulness is a psychological state characterized by full attention to a present experience without elaboration of thought or emotional reactivity while focusing on the sensations of one s breath and body and maintaining relaxation. Thus, MT heightens meta cognitive processing to an extent (Austin, 1998 as found in Zeidan, Johnson, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
