Lord Voldemort Research Paper
A film wouldn t be complete without a villain. The entire film would be pointless and boring,
villains makes everything so exciting. Imagine Batman without Joker, Harry Potter without
Voldemort, Professor X without Magneto, Thor without Loki, and Luke Skywalker without
Darth Vader. Some people loves to hate villains especially if those villains are portrayed by such
amazing actors. They said that if the villains in a film or a television show is not hated by its
viewers, that would mean they re not doing a good job at it. However, there are villains that are
just so good that people actually loves them more than the main protagonists. According to a
research conducted by Jens Kjeldgaard Christiansen from Aarhus University in Denmark, people s

Lord Voldemort is portrayed by the amazing British actor, Ralph Fiennes. One of the reasons
why he is such an unforgettable villain is the fact that he is pure evil and a real psychopath. He
is not capable of feeling any positive emotion since he never felt any affection. He is extremely
sadistic, because he just loves to torture anyone, he finds pleasure when somebody dies or gets
hurt. He was conceived with a use of a love potion and grew up in an orphanage before getting
into Hogwarts. He longs for power to be able to rule both the wizarding world and the muggle
world with all of his loyal followers. No one matters to him besides himself, he is considered to
be the most self centered villain. What makes him so frightening is that he is incredibly skilled
and clever that it seems so impossible to outsmart him. However, what gives people the creeps
is his looks, J.K. Rowling, the author, made sure to make him look like a snake, hence why he
doesn t have a nose, his skin also looks so pale that makes him look like he s not human at all,
and most of all, his expressions and the way that he smiles looks like he just came out of hell.
They younger versions of himself were extremely creepy as

The Benefits Of Dependence On Technology
In recent years, technology has taken huge steps forward. Things that past generations only
dreamed of have come to fruition. Undoubtedly, technology has presented the world with
numerous benefits and opportunities. With the aid of technology, the field of medicine has
greatly improved. Answers to all of life s questions lie just one click of tap away. Self driving
cars loom large on the horizon. Technology has made people s lives so much easier and better, or
has it? While technology has brought about many benefits, many problems have risen as well.
Dependence on technology has driven the world too far. Americans depend too much on technology
because it affects cognitive skills and attention, makes its users too dependent on it, creates a...

Personally, I have experienced this in my own life. Although I do not use social media, I have used
Google Hangouts on occasion. When using Hangouts, I have found myself chatting superficially
about random issues with my friends and not truly making friendships. At times, I have spent time
with other people, almost all of them texting away on their phones, oblivious to their surroundings.
Also, people tend to project a superficial image of their lives that makes their lives seem wonderful
and perfect. Sometimes, this can lead others to feel depressed that their lives seem so much worse.
Relationships encapsulate much more that what social media provides. Thirdly, technology
presents dangers to online security. Nowadays, the threat of cyberattacks exists in a very real way.
Since technology dominates culture, hackers can possibly access virtually everyone s personal
information. Over four billion people had their identities stolen last year according to the Business
Insider (Cole). In addition, sixty four percent of Americans have experienced some form of data
theft, according to the Pew Research Center (Olmstead and Smith). Many major companies, such
as Yahoo and Target, have fallen prey to hackers. While smartphones have made it much easier to
accomplish tasks on the go, many people do not take adequate steps to best ensure security.

Book Review Of Omnivore s Dilemma By Michael Pollan
The Omnivore s Dilemma by Michael Pollan was written to oppose the common
misunderstanding of Americans as a whole on what we should eat when options are so plentiful.
The book begins by asking a straightforward rhetorical question projected to make the reader
think on a more personal level how they would answer this. Pollan asks, What should we have for
dinner? , Then goes on to elaborate just how difficlut the answer is. Pollan breaks down the book
into three main sections being Industrial Corn , Pastoral Grass , and The Forest . Within each
section he goes on 4 different eatingadventures. Throughout each section he does an excellent job
going into great detail to convince the omnivores of America that ultimately we need to have a...

chain was a very helpful tool in convincing the readers that a shorter the food chain, the better it

Swot And Pest Analysis Of Michael Kors s Parent Company
INTRODUCTION:
This assignment sets out that I have to do a SWOT PEST Analysis.
Involved in the assignment is the following:
пЃ¶State the Company I chose and why?
пЃ¶Outline the Company s purpose
пЃ¶Draw and Evaluate an Organisational Chart
пЃ¶Do a SWOT PEST and State the impact it had on the company.
пЃ¶Detail how the company should adapt and change because of the SWOT PEST.
пЃ¶Make appropriate conclusions and recommendations
I chose the company Michael Kors Holdings Ltd; this is a private limited company. I have
chosen this company because I have always had a love for his designer watches and fashion but
to think about how popular the company has gotten so quickly over the past few years is
incredible and I m hoping this assignment will show me a bit of how he did it and why it happened
so quickly.

important one because if the US goes down, the rest go down. The US government is very stable
after the Shutdown in 2013. They don t want another report of that again, because the company

Economical:
пЃ¶European Debt Crisis/Chinese Economic Bubble Just as Michael Kors looks to expand his

Avery Heights is a community nursing home in a park like setting in the town of Hartford. I have
been a volunteer worker for two years and almost every day I visit this magnificent place. My
attendance began when I was a high school student looking to complete community service work
mandatory for every student. Ever since my first visit, I have thoroughly enjoyed assisting the
residents living in Avery Heights throughout my high school experience and beyond. Whether
spending time with dementia and Alzheimer s patient or enjoying the twist and turns of the puzzle
solving and Friday Bingo games with the healthy residents, I developed a sense of compassion,
love, and gratitude toward them. My attraction to the Heights was mainly because of volunteering.
I helped residents with any technological issues that they faced, from fixing old VCR players so
they could watch their favorites 90s TV shows to teaching them how to access the nursing home
Wi Fi and creating an email account which were a truly rewarding experiences. During a cold
Saturday night, I informed my volunteer coordinator Jackie, a music therapist researching the
impact of music on Alzheimer s patients that I would like to attend the Sunday service prayerto gain

Forensic Science in the 21st Century Forensic science has various influences on crime,
investigation and the people that are involved. Forensic science has a connection with the courts to
ensure crimes are getting solved and justice is being served to those that commit crimes. With the
help of forensic science, crimes are being solved from a human and technological aspect. This
paper highlights numerous discussions on how forensic science plays a role in criminal justices

Dissatisfied with the criminal justice system not solving cases fast enough, the public then
places astronomical expectations on medical examiners. Real life investigators believing that a
lack of competency may be at play when in reality, society has been provided a distorted view of
the lengthy, painstaking process involved. According to Nurse Advocacy (2007), People
disregard all messages in advertising, since ads commonly present actors and models, but that is
simply not how the human mind works. Despite being fiction, media products like this can still
influence: our views of the vehicle in question (as the advertiser fervently hopes); the ability of
women today to become authoritative, powerful professionals, yet to still have a family
(presumably this ad was directed mainly at women who would identify with the surgeon); the
basic set up of OR s, the kinds of professionals who participate, how they dress, and what tools
they use; and of course, the relative power, knowledge and professional roles of physicians and
nurses. Some of this may be unintended, but all of it sells the minivan to the target demographic.
All of the elements above contribute to the high credibility of the surgeon, who is, after all, doing
the selling. In this manner media also increase the knowledge of those that are committing crimes,
what they may not have been doing before they are doing it now. For example if they were not

Impact of the Secret Speech- Khrushchev
Gobbet 2 Khrusschev s Secret Speech
The Source is an extract of a speech given by Nikita Khrushchev at the Twentieth Party Congress
of the Soviet Union on February 25th 1956. Khrushchev served as First Secretary of the
Communist Party of the Soviet Union from 1953 to 1964, and as Chairman of the Council of
Ministers, or Premier, from 1958 to 1964. Khrushchev was responsible for the partial de
Stalinization of the Soviet Union, for backing the progress of the world s early space program,
and for several relatively liberal reforms in areas of domestic policy. Stalin s political heirs fought
for power after his death in 1953, a struggle in which Khrushchev, after several years, emerged
triumphant. In 1956, at the Twentieth Party Congress,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The government would now rule now not by terror and compulsion, but by calling on the
initiative of the people and their co operation. Khrushchev launched the de Stalinization
campaign for internal reasons, and in the teeth of strong opposition from Stalinists such as
Molotov, Malenkov and Voroshilov. The speech achieved its purpose, at least within the
Communist party of the Soviet Union. It drew a firm line under the Stalinist era, acknowledging
its monstrosities and disasters while preserving the fiction that the present Communist
leadership bore no responsibility. Khrushchev became secure in power and won a relatively free
hand to reform the Soviet economy and liberalize the apparatus of terror. In addition to this old
Stalinists such as Molotov were removed from their positions. A period of liberalization
followed which was known as Khrushchev s Thaw. This was a chain of unprecedented steps to
free people from fear and dictatorship. Two climactic acts of de Stalinization marked the process
firstly, on October 31, 1961, Stalin s body was removed from its mausoleum in Red Square and
reburied, and secondly, on November 11, 1961, the hero city Stalingrad was renamed to Volgograd.
However the power struggle between liberals and conservative pro Stalinists never stopped, and it
eventually weakened the Soviet Communist Party. However the real significance of

Write An Essay On The Effects Of Shooting A Basketball
Basketball is a widely known game around the world. Played by both men and women it is one
of the more popular sports around. Made in December of 1891 by Dr. James Naismith it is still
being played today. Although basketball looks like a lot of running, dribbling, and shooting you ll
learn that there is a lot more things that go into it. The art of shooting a basketballis a whole lot more
than just aiming at the goal and flicking your wrist. You have to be able to have the right arc and
trajectory to be able to get the ball through the hoop. Not only do those things go into a jump
shot, but also spin is very important in shooting a shot. For instance, if you have the right speed
and direction of spin on the ball than if you miss your shot, the way the ball spins off the rim or
backboard may result in you hitting a lucky shot. The effects of air resistance of the ball are so
small because of small velocities, so spin of a shot in air is not useful. What spin is useful for is
for a better chance of the ball going in if the ball hits the rim (Kentridge). If you have the right
amount of spin, trajectory, and arc on the ball than the better chance you have of getting the
perfect swish. The backspin, after contact with the back rim or board, will result in a change in
velocity opposite to the spin direction, changing an equal angle rebound into a velocity more
toward the net (Willis). Backspin is very crucial in shooting a ball. If you do not have rotation on
your ball then more than likely you will miss most of the shots you take. They will just bounce off
of the rim or backboard without having a chance of bouncing in. With the spin on a shot, some of...

Alice Walker Beauty
Achieving Beauty
In Alice Walker s Beauty When the Other Dancer is the self , Walker comes to terms with her
childhood accident through examples of gender power, racial discrimination, and selfish violence.
Alice Walker has three main memories she recalls inside and explains in the essay. The first being
her connection and relationship with her father and her family. Her accident involves her brothers
shooting her in the eye using new BB guns given by the parents. There is a tree growing from
underneath the porch that climbs past the railing to the roof. It is the last thing my right eye sees.

was an accident or done deliberately in order to damage her physical looks so her father would
not pick her anymore. She went through a surgery to improve the appearance of her eye that she
started to find self courage and acceptance. When Walker feels beautiful once more, and her view
upon life improves dramatically in almost every aspect: Give examples. Alice begins to keep her
head held high, she starts to talk more and attains the boyfriend of her dreams, she excels in
school once more and generally feels more self confident. I feel that beauty has this universal
definition to society and the expectation that it must be met to achieve internal and external
happiness. Society has a stereotype of beauty itself. Society believes that beauty has a universal
definition which every person experiences. What Walker is trying to put forward is that beauty can
come in different forms and meanings. Walker pursues the societal norm that different
configurations of beauty must be achieved to attain internal and external happiness. These
including the need to feel welcomed by others, the need to experience true happiness and feel
needed, the need to feel self worthy and loved, and the aspiration to feel confident in one s skin.
This is what Alice Walkerfaces and it is this misconception she experiences throughout her life and

Prejudice In Harper Lee s Go Set A Watchman
Harper Lee once said, Prejudice, a dirty word, and faith, a clean one, have something in
common: they both begin where reason ends. In her novel, Go Set A Watchman, Jean Louise
Finch comes back home from her job in New York to take care of her father and along the way,
she ends up uncovering many secrets about her hometown and family. Will she ever view her
friends and family in the same manner as she did when she was young? The South had recently
lost the civil war but were slowly gaining rights back. African Americans became free from
slavery and the Supreme Court s Brown v. Board of Education and the National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People become a huge controversy. Jean Louise follows her father,
Atticus, and her childhood sweetheart, Henry, to a council meeting, where Atticus introduces a
man who spoke a very racist speech. Jean Louise doesn t react very well to this and runs home,

blacks of the South are not ready for full civil rights, and the Supreme Court s decision was

Creation And The Persistence Of Evil By Levenson
In Creation and the Persistence of Evil , Levenson asserts that God s divine omnipotence
originates from his battle with rather than banishment of evil. There are a few textual facts to
consider in analysis of this statement. In an initial class discussion, we examined the fact that
God did not create evil. He created what was and what had the potential to be good (e.g. light,
man), separating it from what is deemed as evil (e.g. darkness). For instance, he did not create the
tree of knowledge of good and evil, but instead drew boundaries. Yet this concept from Genesis
conflicts with one that arises in Psalms 104:26. This verse states that Godcreated the Leviathan, a
sea monster, and later kills him in a battle ( thou brakest the heads of

Because Gatsby is standing alone, searching for the elusive Daisy, he is shown to not be content.
He finds no joy in having all these people here if he cannot find his Daisy. He views Daisy as the
person that will bring him to an even higher social class, because even though he is rich, he still
remembers the social value Daisy encompasses because of her abundance of lovers. Ultimately
he wants to swell his ego, to tame the wild beast, because Daisy wasn t settled down before with
any one man. Even though she is now married, he still views her with the same awe of when he
first laid eyes on her at camp, even remarking that Her voice is full of money (127) in reference to
his percieved value of her when they first met. Quintessentially, Gatsby has narcissism flowing
through his veins because he is attempting to recreate a past to soothe his remorse from when he
initially left Daisy to fight in the war. The way he treats his milieu also exposes his narcissism.
Although he regularly hosts gigantic parties in the hopes of attracting Daisy, he doesn t treat any of
the other individual guests with grace. People start streaming in early in the day and swim in his
pool, and stay far past midnight, yet none of these patrons know who the mysterious Gatsby is.

Ocean, climate change, protection of the marine environment, maritime safety, responsibility in
relation to the prospect of new shipping routes through the Arctic Ocean, and to settle overlapping
territory claims. It should be noted that the other Arcticstates, the Arctic Council, and none of the

Some question how an Antarctic Treaty System could be so direct and successful in protecting the
area, while the Arctic groups and legislation struggle to determine power, rights, and ruling
jurisdiction. The most obvious differences between the two territories are that the Antarctic is a
continent surrounded by water with no permanent residents, while the Arctic is a body of water
surrounded by land with an indigenous population. Although some argue that they have very
similar environments, the difference in physical geography and topography is what results in such
monumental differences in their treatment in international politics. The political geography of the
Arctic Circle contributes to the application of the Law of Seas (UNCLOS III), whereas in the
Antarctic there are no sovereignty claims and therefore no single country or combination of
countries can claim jurisdiction over parts of the Antarctic and Southern Ocean.
To round out the Antarctic Treaty, three more international treaties were created to fully protect the
Antarctic environment and the waters surrounding it, this includes the 1972 Convention for the
Conservation of Antarctic Seals, the 1980 Convention on the Conservation of Antarctic Marine
Living Resources, and the 1988 Convention on the Regulation of Antarctic Mineral Resource

Analyzing 50 s And 60s American Society Through Music
Analyzing 50 s and 60s American society through music
The two songs that I am going to analyze Is Nina Simone To Be Young, Gifted and Black, and Gil
Scott Heron Whitey on the Moon . I will view both of these songs in terms of there contributions to
the counter hegemonic force fighting against the dominant white supremacist ideology that was
prevalent during the 50 s and 60 s.
To give some quick context about Nina Simone, she was a genuine musical artist who routinely
recorded music that ranged across tunes from all genres. The greatest of these was To Be Young,
Gifted and Black, which Simone composed with her new protГ©gГ© Weldon Irvine, a youthful
jazz artist and arranger of musicals, whose frightful verses paid tribute to the late civil rights
activist Lorraine Hansberry, who fought bravely for the rights of all Americans before her
unfourtanate death. Nina Simone had noticed that the moral of black Americans was destroyed by
the way that the dominant ideology of white supremacy which had successfully sold the idea that
all races that were not White were inferior, low class citizens who should accept there roles and
deal with it. She acted as a counter hegemonic force that challenged the way blacks were thought to
view themselves for what they really are, valuable, talented, and gifted human beings just like the
Anglos were. Gil Scott Heron sang the lyric Whitey on the Moon in 1970 reacting to Neil Armstrong

The Beatles Were The Most Influential Events Of The Rock Era

The Beatles were the greatest and most influential act of the rock era. They introduced more

The Beatles was a distinguished group of young band artist. They were the Fab Four, or as the

The Figure Of A Snoot, By David Foster Wallace
I m sure that during our years in school, we have came in contact with someone we would
classify as a nerd. We would typically view this person as an overachiever or teacher s pet. That
nerd was usually the one who always passed their test, completed every assignment, read books
for fun, and was very eager to be the first one to raise their hand in class. They would always
speak properly and often corrected your grammar. Most people may view them as an annoying
pest. That nerd would be someone who David Foster Wallacewould characterize as a SNOOT.
Wallace wrote an essay where he created an intellectual figure called a SNOOT. In this essay, I
will better explain this intellectual figure, how you can spot it early on in childhood, as well as
compare them to Rodriguez from a past essay. In an essay, written by David Foster Wallace, he
creates a nonfiction character or intellectual figure called a SNOOT. He defines a SNOOT to be
someone who never fails to speak proper English no matter where they go, is constantly
correcting others grammar, and is fluent in standard written English. In other words, a SNOOT is
a grammar nerd. Wallace identifies himself with his made up character and believes that not many
people can be classified as a SNOOT. Wallace is a college professor and finds it bothersome when
his students fail to achieve grammatically correct language in their writing. As a SNOOT he tends
constantly have the urge to correct someone s grammar everytime he gets the chance

The effect of utilization of ultrasound via an increase in local blood flow can be used to help
reduce local swelling and chronic inflammation, and, according to some studies promote bone
fracture healing [6]. There are two different ways in which US can be used to treat disease,
continuous and pulsed ultrasound. Continuous ultrasounds are typically responsible for the heating
effect in the tissues because it uses an unmodulated continuous wave ultrasound beam with limited
intensities. In comparison, the pulsed ultrasound beam is modulated to deliver brief pulses of high
intensity separated by longer pauses of no power. It is suggested that pulsed Ultrasound be
recommended for acute pain and inflammation and continuous ultrasound for the treatment of
restricted movement [7]. In general, ultrasound is a safe treatment that has been used in

and find out! All across the nation there is a debate going on if cursive should be allowed in
schools or discontinued. And if it is necessary or not. Cursive should be discontinued because it is
unnecessary. Cursiveis only necessary when it comes to signing your name. You do not read in
cursive, print is used 99% of the time instead of cursive. In conclusion cursive is very unnecessary
and should not be a curriculum in schools.
When you are on the road driving or just doing daily activities you read things in print. One
reason as you drive you should come across road signs about every 10 seconds! Most important,

Thirdly If cursive is taught back then people in higher grades like highschool and junior high
will have to be taught this. This could take precious time away from doing better things. When
you work on cursive it is something that is a learning thing with memorization so you can
quickly get out of it with shortcuts according to Ms jobey. This shows if cursive were to be
brought back the books and everything around us today still would be print and it would be like
moving to another country with a different language not being able to connect the two.
Importantly when you go into school libraries the librarians and schools have gotten rid of most
books written in cursive simply because students don t know how to read them and they are just
left on the shelf according to scopepentos. Additionally this shows that even librarians and schools
don t think cursive is vital enough for it to be taught to us kids considering they take it out of there
library s. In conclusion teaching cursive now would cause pandemonium and be unbeneficial
because it would put people in different spots and confuse

Civil War Slavery Causes
Merriam Webster defines a slave as someone who is legally owned by another person and is
forced to work for that person without pay. Slavery is one of the main causes of the civil war.
The South disagreed with the North and the North disagreed with the South. The South became
the Confederacy. The North became the Union. This lead to many battles such as the battle of
Gettysburg. The South wanted to keep slaves. The North wanted to free all the slaves. The South
was gray. The North was blue. The Civil War lasted for four years. The South lost the war, all of
the slaves were freed, and President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth at

There were two copyright plagiarizing cases against this particular song. Two by Christopher
Selletti and another by Rhonda Dimmer. Both cases took place in 1993 and 1996. Selletti
claimed that he presented the song Hero in the form of a poem to someone named Sly Stone.
Sly and Selletti lost contact over the years causing Seletti to perform a poor man s copyright.
This consisted of Seletti mailing himself a copy of his own lyrics. Selletti came across Carey s
version of Hero on the radio three years later and realized the lyrics were similar to his. Carey
provided proof to prove her innocence in court, by providing a notebook with the song dated
back to November 20, 1992. The song was intended for the use of a soundtrack for a film called
Hero. Selletti s attorney then provided proof that Carey completed the lyrics prior to the
October 1992 release date of the film. Due to that fact that proof was brought forth to the court,
the judge dismissed the case against Carey. Many years later Selettie used a different attorney
and tried to sue Carey again. In all efforts, the judge dismissed the case. Rhonda Dimmmer
claimed that the lyrics to the same song Hero was similar to hers of the song titled Be Your Own

Bomb Calorimeter Essay
Bomb calorimeter The Usages Introduction:
Like other calorimeters, the bomb calorimeter is used to measure the amount of heat that is
released by an exothermic reaction. The term bomb refers to its usage of a sealed container that
contains an even smaller container within that can endure high pressures. Inside the smaller
container which is surrounded by water, the reaction takes place.
The main difference between a bomb calorimeter and all the other types of calorimeter is that the
change in enthalpy (О”H) isn t being measured. Instead, the change in internal energy(О”U) is
measured.
q reaction = (q water + q bomb)
A bomb calorimeter is made up of:
the bomb to contain the reaction
the water bath
stirrer

Ancient Roman Architecture And Humanism
The time of the Renaissance was a period when old ideas and techniques were brought back to the
surface. Ancient Rome helped frame architecture in the Early Renaissance, in comparison will be
discussing three buildings in Italy that were influenced by classical heritage.
I will discuss is a town house identified as the Palazzo Rucellai, built by Leon Battista Alberti in
Florence, Italy. Alberti was known to be a humanist, which was a belief that Greeks and Romans
practiced. (Dr. Beth Harris and David Zucker Alberti, Palazzo Rucellai ). It was believed that
humans and their lives were more, or just as important as the Gods. Humanists also believed that
God(s) made humans with a specific talent. According to the dictionary Humanism sparked interest
in a system in which human interests, values, and dignity were becoming a central motif for
artisans. This building was an important commission that Alberti had completed for a wealthy
merchant family known as the Rucellais, and was built after the wealthy Medici family built their
palazzo. According to Dr. Beth Harris and Dr. Steven Zucker, Alberti wrote multiple books. One of
those books was titled The Architecture of Leon Battista Alberti Ten Books on Architecture, and
was considered the most important book of architecture after the famous Ten Books on Architecture
written by the ancient Roman Vitruvius. Using Vitruvius vocabulary of ancient Roman
architecture, Alberti used it in a self conscious way to proclaim its

Theme Of Chaos In A Midsummer Night s Dream
Many people go through different chaotic experiences in their lives, however, how one decides to
restore order to their chaos, is most important. In William Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s
Dream, due to simultaneous appearences of chaos throughout the play, it leaves the audience
speculating about the order yet to come, thus, developing/strenghtening the plot of the play. The
various occurences of order and chaos within the play include, the arguments between Titania and
Oberon, the unstable love circle between the four lovers and finally the bizarre relationship
between Titania and Bottom. To begin with, the first occurence of order and chaos within the
play concern Oberon and Titania and their quarreling. When the two main powers of the fairy
realm argue over a child, chaos reflects in their world. For example, one of the unfortunate
complications that arise in the fairy world is that Crows are fatted with the murrion flock; (II.i.97).
Due to Oberon and Titania being so powerful, all the consequences that follow their arguing result
in nature being impacted in a bad way. With this in mind, how Titania describes the devastating
things happening, the audience can infer that the fairy world is in complete chaos. Shakespeare
continuously develops this conflict very slowly, eventually restoring order within the fairy realm.
This specific conflict is resolved when Oberon finally aquires the child from Titania saying, I then
did ask for her changeling child, [...] And now I

Advantage And Disadvantage Of Steel
CHAPTER 5 MATERIALS USED
5.1 STEEL:
ADVANTAGES OF STEEL AS A CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL
Strength of steel is approximately ten times that of concrete. Due to its large strength to weight
ratio, steel structures tend to be more economical than concrete structures for tall buildings and
large span buildings and bridges.
Steel structures can be constructed very fast.
Steel structures are ductile and robust. Steel structures can be easily repaired and retrofitted to carry
higher loads.
Steel is also a very eco friendly material.
Since steel is produced in the factory under better quality control, steel structures have higher
reliability and safety.

Shrinkage of concrete
Shrinkage is the time dependent deformation, generally compressive in nature. The constituents of
concrete, size of the member and environmental conditions are the factors on which the total
shrinkage of concrete depends. However, the total shrinkage of concrete is most influenced by the
total amount of water present in the concrete at the time of mixing for a given humidity and
temperature. The cement content, however, influences the total shrinkage of concrete to a lesser
extent. The approximate value of the total shrinkage strain for design is taken as 0.0003 in the
absence of test data (cl. 6.2.4.1).
Thermal expansion of concrete: The knowledge of thermal expansion of concrete is very
important as it is prepared and remains in service at a wide range of temperature in different
countries having very hot or cold climates. Moreover, concrete will be having its effect of high
temperature during fire. The coefficient of thermal expansion depends on the nature of cement,
aggregate, cement content, relative humidity and size of the section. IS 456 stipulates (cl. 6.2.6)
the values of coefficient of thermal expansion for concrete / oC for different types of

The Legend Of The Sleepy Hollow By Washington Irving
The Legend of the Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving is a tale of supernaturalism written in
Nineteenth Century America during a time when American literature was not yet fully established.
Irving wrote this story with multiple historical events in mind and presents a legend full of
problematic ideas of wealth, greed and rejection. Amongst many other literary elements, Irving
uses the American setting and Sleepy Hollow itself throughout in relation to the development of
the story. The setting in relation to the characters is also an important factor that establishes the
mood for this creepy, supernatural legend. The location of Sleepy Hollow is the basis of the
setting and is influenced by a full range of historical facts and events. This instantly creates a
frame of mind for the readers and prepares them for certain themes. The city of Sleepy Hollow and
its name at first glance describe the story in general very well. Lastly, the setting impacts the
characters throughout and directs the way the characters should be. Without the heavy description
and use of setting, the mood in this story would not be so well founded and the context not as
impactful. The Legend of Sleepy Hollowwould not be the supernatural tale it is without Irving s
focus on the setting.
The location of Sleepy Hollow in the United States is the main setting and impacts the story
dramatically, straight from the beginning to the end. As a reader, it is set from the first sentence
that Sleepy Hollow is

The government s response to these discoveries was summed up with president Obama s statement,
We will not stand for substandard care for our veterans (Zezima1). Today, the Veteran s Affairs
program remains under audit and under criminal investigations. Although these audits and
investigations are looking to target the problems and improve the program, this could take years
due to the complexity of the program itself. So in theory are these actions hindering the system
currently? These audits and investigations have already made some improvements within the
system. They have pinned down the issue and Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki, has taken
responsibility for the confirmed allegations of long wait times and false record keeping
(Zezimer,1), but can we really contribute this whole scandal to one person? Of course not, it took
the effort of many to be able to falsify records. Even though Shinseki resigned that does not fix the
problem. There will have to be an extreme clearing in the system to rid the problem. As a matter of
fact, the investigations and audit could be making it more difficult for the veterans. The
investigations call for many changes, which could draw out the process of getting into the clinics
and receiving benefits. So although the audits will help in the long run, they are hindering in the

Once he offers a nice sum of money to buy Foiral s house, however, the stranger is treated with a

Examples Of Cluster And Conjoint Analysis

2.1Cluster Analysis

This technology had been embedded in different products and also the company s own special
purpose products. Dan woods (2010) quoted another example of a new company; WiseWindow
had been applying this analysis into social media content. This analysis had helped the company to
obtain clues to the future trends and allow WiseWindow to connect its engine to thousands of
streams of social media and traking millions of comments a day. WiseWindow had found a way to
examine the course of growth of clusters and turn this analysis into leading indicators (Dan woods,
2010).
2.1.2 Advantages of cluster analysis
It is the easiest method for companies to collect data for analysis. As companies cannot connect
with all their customers, they normally divide the market into different groups with similar needs
and wants (E.Mooi and M.Sarstedt, 2011). Firms would then target each segment by positioning
themselves in a unique segment such as Ferrari positioning in the high end sports car market.

Adam and Eve in Paradise lost Essay
Milton was looked on by many feminists, of or relating to or advocating equal rights for women,
(comma before quotation mark)[1] as rather chauvinistic in the way he portrayed Eve. In, (delete,)
Paradise Lost, there are many examples of Eve being slighted (comma and substitute well with

When Eve first enters the world, (comma maybe) she awakes, Under a shade on flow rs..., [2] by a
lake. In putting Eve under shade, (comma maybe) Milton shows that she is not one hundred

When Eve first comes in contact with Adam we see another example of her vainness. Eve sees
Adam as, ...less fair, less winning soft, less amiably mild, than the watery image. [4] (period

Immediately after these thoughts go through her head, (, might be needed) she turns away from
Adam in an act of repulse. When Adam first enters (or entered) into the world, (, might be needed)
he is (much more superior than Eve, (Suggestion)) made to be a lot more superior then (*than) Eve.

The Effects Of Histrionic Personality Disorder On Young...
Social media websites and activities such as Facebook, Instagram, Blogs, and open forums
allows people to seek the attention from others. Apps and websites that focus on a persons
appearance affects how one might think of themselves. The self esteem of Young adults and
adolescence ages 15+ are greatly affected. The thought of being appealing and gaining status is a
target for young adults to change their color or dark personality traits as an accommodation
(Furnham, 2014). Posting self portraits of oneself in a provocative position, videos illustrating a
wild personality are behaviors will lead to instant gratification that a typical young adult craves.
Various factors such as cell phone use, the likely hood one might join a site based on the big five
personality traits and others factors caused by personality disorders comparable to histrionic
personality disorderare to be considered risks. Histrionic personality disorder(HPD) or other wised

perceived in relation to the opinion of another. They regularly express themselves with extreme
emotion. When one might feel that they are losing the attention of others, they habitually behave in
outlandish behavior in which they dramatize their actions, flirt, perform sexual movements, and

Critical Analysis of Standardization and Adaptation in...
в¦ЃIntroduction:
In internationalization, the most challenging decision faced by the company to choose between
standardization and adaptation in its operations, products or services. It has been one of the
important and most popular research topics since 1960s to understand whether standardization is
better or adaptation for marketing mix in international marketing. The increasing role of
international expansion of business across the borders has also increased the focus of companies
towards the international marketing strategies. It is also a biggest challenge for companies to better
understand the different needs and choice of customers due to the huge differences among the
cultures from various nationalities. This leads to the dilemma in ... Show more content on

The least level of adaptation occurs in product attributes such as quality, design, features and
characteristics. Comparing the products related elements with pricing related elements, adaptation
is more used in pricing approach. The key reason for such differences occurs due to the variation
among countries in marketing objective, inflation rate, purchasing power parity, cost structure,
government control and competitive policies. Pricing adjustments are somehow centered around
different areas namely retail prices versus margin, whole price versus margin, pricing method versus
strategies, sales versus payment terms and end user pricing versus margin. On the other hand,
promotion related elements have slightly above average level adaptation.
Amongst the marketing mix elements, promotional elements seem to be more adaptive and even
personal selling is more adaptive than advertisement. The key reason of the same is identified by
Vrontis, Thrassou and Lamprianou (2009) and stated there are few factors responsible for it such as
differences in media

Taxicab Classification Essay
Our analysis is based on a sample size of fifteen jurisdictions. These cities were chosen on the basis
of geographic diversity and relevance: three major cities from the Northeast, three cities from the
Midwest, three cities from the South, and six cities from the West. Overall, these jurisdictions
exhibit a broad range of approaches to entry managementand a variety of regulatory systems. Most
of these cities do not institute taxicab caps; in the sample, only six out of fifteen cities have caps.
Analysis of Accepted Practices Findings Types of Caps Standards for Setting and Modifying Caps

market. In most cases, the number of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To address these proposed actions, state agencies prepare an environmental impact statement that
outlines all potential environmental consequences of the proposed actions, potential alternatives,
unavoidable environmental effects, and the steps to be taken by state agencies to mitigate the
consequences. In order for additional taxi permits to be issued in a city, the impacts on
socioeconomic conditions, transportation, public health, neighborhood character, air quality and
greenhouse gas emissions would be assessed comprehensively. Transportation related variables
including impact on traffic, parking, pedestrians or bicycles, and transit facilities would be
examined as well. Example: New York City.
3.Public Convenience Necessity ( PCN )
In order to operate a taxicab in certain jurisdictions, a Certificate of Public Convenience and
Necessity ( CPCN ) is required. To apply for the certificate, a new entrant must first prove that he
/she is qualified by demonstrating his/her ability to provide a continuous taxicab service, lack of
criminal record, etc. Once qualified, the applicant must attend a Public Convenience and
Necessity ( PCN ) hearing to make a case that there is a need for additional service. The burden of
proof falls on the applicant. During the hearing, stakeholders such as existing service providers are
allowed to intervene, and this may create a significant obstacle for the applicant. Examples:
Chicago, Las Vegas and New Orleans.

Essay On Employee Assistance Programs
Working with Employee Assistance Programs I was glad to read about the different settings
available for the clinical mental health counselor to work within. It is always good to know
several options exists, and if you do not like where you currently are working, you could always
switch settings. Before reading the text, I was thinking of working in private practice, but I am
now unsure if I would be willing to take risks associated with the private practice area. The
responsibility of being solely liable for all financial matters, accounting, administrative work, and
inconsistent revenue streams is quite scary (Gladding Newsome, 2018, p. 385). Currently, the
setting that is most appealing for me to work in is the employee assistance... Show more content on

In the world where managed care organizations are pushing for counseling sessions to be short,
employee assistance programs seem like the right fit for short term services, with three to eight
sessions being the norm. As an EAP counselor, it is essential for me to be assured of my ability
to protect my clients confidentiality. I am aware of lines being blurred when counseling, for
instance, a boss and his/her employee. I should be able to assure both parties that the information
shared during our sessions will be held to the privacy standards required of counselor and client
relationships. Committing to professional behaviors such as maintaining a strictly professional
relationship, being an attentive listener, respecting cultural differences, and advocating for my
clients. I would also be trained in working with adults, as well as children and couples since EAP
services sometimes include the family members. An asset I would like to have is some wellness
and prevention training because a focus in EAP counseling is geared towards wellness. To become
an EAP counselor, I would need to participate in continuing education training, including substance
abuse and addictions counseling; knowledge about the business world is also a necessary asset. The
Employee Assistance Program Association (EAPA) offers training classes through its local chapters
(Gladding Newsome, 2018). Clinical mental health counselors are just one

Understanding Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder
The newest edition of the American Psychiatric Association s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of
Mental Disorders again included Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) in the list of
Depressive Disorders (2013). In this paper, I argue from a feminist perspective that the presence of
PMDD in the DSM combines the stigma attached to both menstruation and mental illness, in order
to shame any womanwho is not fulfilling the expected role of passive and accepting mother or
wife. Additionally, the DSM s false assertion that PMDD is not culturally tied forces the North
American expectations of womanhood onto people in different parts of the world.
Understanding Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder
Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder was most recently reviewed and confirmed by a work group
consisting of ten men to a mere four women (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). The
disorder consists of both affective (irritability and anxiety) and physical changes (lethargy and
hypersomnia) that a woman experiences during the week before most of her periods of menses
(American Psychiatric Association, 2013, p.172). The DSM provides examples of social
impairment that a woman suffering from PMDD might experience; they pertain to marital discord
and problems with children (American Psychiatric Association, 2013, p.174). One international
study of young women in Poland shows research findings suggesting that women living in large
cities are at a higher risk of acquiring PMDD (Drosdzol,

Khrushchev was responsible for the partial de Stalinization of the Soviet Union, for backing the progress of the world s early space program, and for several relatively liberal reforms in areas of domestic policy. Khrushchev launched the de Stalinization campaign for internal reasons, and in the teeth of strong opposition from Stalinists such as Molotov, Malenkov and Voroshilov. The speech achieved its purpose, at least within the Communist party of the Soviet Union. It drew a firm line under the Stalinist era, acknowledging its monstrosities and disasters while preserving the fiction that the present Communist leadership bore no responsibility. Khrushchev became secure in power and won a relatively free hand to reform the Soviet economy and liberalize the apparatus of terror. In addition to this old Stalinists such as Molotov were removed from their positions. A period of liberalization followed which was known as Khrushchev s Thaw. Made in December of 1891 by Dr. James Naismith it is still being played today. Although basketball looks like a lot of running, dribbling, and shooting you ll learn that there is a lot more things that go into it. The art of shooting a basketballis a whole lot more than just aiming at the goal and flicking your wrist. You have to be able to have the right arc and trajectory to be able to get the ball through the hoop. Not only do those things go into a jump shot, but also spin is very important in shooting a shot. For instance, if you have the right speed and direction of spin on the ball than if you miss your shot, the way the ball spins off the rim or backboard may result in you hitting a lucky shot. The effects of air resistance of the ball are so small because of small velocities, so spin of a shot in air is not useful. What spin is useful for is for a better chance of the ball going in if the ball hits the rim (Kentridge). If you have the right amount of spin, trajectory, and arc on the ball than the better chance you have of getting the perfect swish. The backspin, after contact with the back rim or board, will result in a change in velocity opposite to the spin direction, changing an equal angle rebound into a velocity more toward the net (Willis). Backspin is very crucial in shooting a ball. If you do not have rotation on your ball then more than likely you will miss most of the shots you take. They will just bounce off of the rim or backboard without having a chance of bouncing in. With the spin on a shot, some of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Analyzing 50 s And 60s American Society Through Music Analyzing 50 s and 60s American society through music The two songs that I am going to analyze Is Nina Simone To Be Young, Gifted and Black, and Gil Scott Heron Whitey on the Moon . I will view both of these songs in terms of there contributions to the counter hegemonic force fighting against the dominant white supremacist ideology that was prevalent during the 50 s and 60 s. Alberti was known to be a humanist, which was a belief that Greeks and Romans practiced. (Dr. Beth Harris and David Zucker Alberti, Palazzo Rucellai ). This building was an important commission that Alberti had completed for a wealthy merchant family known as the Rucellais, and was built after the wealthy Medici family built their palazzo. In William Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream, due to simultaneous appearences of chaos throughout the play, it leaves the audience speculating about the order yet to come, thus, developing/strenghtening the plot of the play. The various occurences of order and chaos within the play include, the arguments between Titania and Oberon, the unstable love circle between the four lovers and finally the bizarre relationship between Titania and Bottom. To begin with, the first occurence of order and chaos within the play concern Oberon and Titania and their quarreling. When the two main powers of the fairy realm argue over a child, chaos reflects in their world. For example, one of the unfortunate complications that arise in the fairy world is that Crows are fatted with the murrion flock; (II.i.97). Due to Oberon and Titania being so powerful, all the consequences that follow their arguing result in nature being impacted in a bad way. With this in mind, how Titania describes the devastating things happening, the audience can infer that the fairy world is in complete chaos. Irving wrote this story with multiple historical events in mind and presents a legend full of problematic ideas of wealth, greed and rejection. Amongst many other literary elements, Irving uses the American setting and Sleepy Hollow itself throughout in relation to the development of the story. The setting in relation to the characters is also an important factor that establishes the mood for this creepy, supernatural legend. The location of Sleepy Hollow is the basis of the setting and is influenced by a full range of historical facts and events. This instantly creates a frame of mind for the readers and prepares them for certain themes. The city of Sleepy Hollow and its name at first glance describe the story in general very well. Comparing the products related elements with pricing related elements, adaptation is more used in pricing approach. • 44. Essay On Employee Assistance Programs Working with Employee Assistance Programs I was glad to read about the different settings available for the clinical mental health counselor to work within. It is always good to know several options exists, and if you do not like where you currently are working, you could always switch settings. Before reading the text, I was thinking of working in private practice, but I am now unsure if I would be willing to take risks associated with the private practice area. The responsibility of being solely liable for all financial matters, accounting, administrative work, and inconsistent revenue streams is quite scary (Gladding Newsome, 2018, p. 385). Currently, the setting that is most appealing for me to work in is the employee assistance... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the world where managed care organizations are pushing for counseling sessions to be short, employee assistance programs seem like the right fit for short term services, with three to eight sessions being the norm. As an EAP counselor, it is essential for me to be assured of my ability to protect my clients confidentiality. I am aware of lines being blurred when counseling, for instance, a boss and his/her employee. I should be able to assure both parties that the information shared during our sessions will be held to the privacy standards required of counselor and client relationships. Committing to professional behaviors such as maintaining a strictly professional relationship, being an attentive listener, respecting cultural differences, and advocating for my clients. I would also be trained in working with adults, as well as children and couples since EAP services sometimes include the family members. An asset I would like to have is some wellness and prevention training because a focus in EAP counseling is geared towards wellness. • 45. Understanding Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder The newest edition of the American Psychiatric Association s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders again included Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) in the list of Depressive Disorders (2013). In this paper, I argue from a feminist perspective that the presence of PMDD in the DSM combines the stigma attached to both menstruation and mental illness, in order to shame any womanwho is not fulfilling the expected role of passive and accepting mother or wife. Additionally, the DSM s false assertion that PMDD is not culturally tied forces the North American expectations of womanhood onto people in different parts of the world. Understanding Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder was most recently reviewed and confirmed by a work group consisting of ten men to a mere four women (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). The disorder consists of both affective (irritability and anxiety) and physical changes (lethargy and hypersomnia) that a woman experiences during the week before most of her periods of menses (American Psychiatric Association, 2013, p.172). The DSM provides examples of social impairment that a woman suffering from PMDD might experience; they pertain to marital discord and problems with children (American Psychiatric Association, 2013, p.174). One international study of young women in Poland shows research findings suggesting that women living in large cities are at a higher risk of acquiring PMDD (Drosdzol, ...
