Q:1
In this question I asked what genre
of music the potential readership
listen to.
The majority (70%) of answers said
that they listen to the rock genre.
This is good as my magazine is
based on the rock genre.
This means that most people are
likely going to like my magazine,
however I will need to investigate
what the readership would want
and/or expect from a rock
magazine. I will achieve this by
asking readers what they would like
to see in a rock magazine and then
include these ideas in my own
magazine.
Q:2
In this question I asked what music
magazine they would purchase
from a store. The majority of
answers (70%) said they would buy
a KERRANG! magazine. This is
useful to me as the magazine I
based mine on was KERRANG!.
This will help me as I know that my
magazine is similar to KERRANG! so
they are likely going to like my
magazine. I will achieve this by
using conventions from KERRANG!
Magazine and putting them into my
own magazine.
Q:3
In this question I asked how much
people are willing to pay for a
magazine. The majority of answers
(70%) said that they would pay
between £1- £2. This has helped
me as I can now price my magazine
to suit my target audience. This
puts my price range lower than
most magazines from the same
genre.
Q:4
In this question I asked how often
people buy a music magazine. The
majority of people (50%) answered
never, connoting that print media
and magazines are not a popular
form of media. From finding this
out I hope to push people into
buying magazines from this genre
and stop this form of media from
dying. However, there was a few
who buy a magazine regularly,
connoting that to some people they
still like to read a magazine.
Q:5
In this question I asked the age of
people answering the survey. The
majority of participants (80%) are
aged between 18 - 24. This
connotes that the majority of
people who buy magazines are
young and only a few people from
the older generation buy a
magazine. This means in my
magazine I can feature old
bands/artists as well as new and
upcoming bands/artists.
Q:6
In this question I asked participants
to chose a house style they would
like to see in a rock magazine. The
majority (60%) answered black and
white.
This connotes that this house style
is common to see in a rock
magazine. This will help me when
deciding the house style for my
own magazine however I may
decide to go for other colours as
well as black and white.
Q:7
In this question I asked what would
encourage you to buy a magazine.
The majority of answers (70%) said
they would buy a magazine for a
Free CD. This connotes that people
would buy a magazine for free
merchandise and special offers,
meaning I need to offer some form
of USP. This will help me when
promoting my magazine as people
will want to receive free
merchandise and would hopefully
come back every week for the new
issue.
Q:8
In this question I asked for names
for a masthead. The majority of
answers where rock related. This
connotes that a rock magazine has
words that will connote the rock
genre, for example ‘top rock’ and
‘rock on’. However, I have decided
that neither of the suggested
names are suitable, therefore I
need to brainstorm some more
suitable masthead names.
Q:9
In this question I asked what you
would like to see on the cover of a
rock magazine. The majority of
answers suggested to see a rock
star. This connotes how important
‘star appeal’ (Dyer) for the intended
readership.
This will help me when deciding
what image to have on my front
cover. I will hopefully go for a
medium shot of the upper body at
eye level. This is to show off the
facial expression from my model.
Q:10
In this question I asked if you would
only buy a magazine for promotion.
The majority of people (70%)
answered Yes. This connotes that
the main reason for buying a
magazine is for the free items
included in the magazine.
