This document summarizes the results of primary research conducted about soap operas. The research found that relationships and murders are commonly used storylines. Strong dominant female characters are a common character type seen in soap operas. Most viewers are in the working class who enjoy the sense of escapism and ability to relate to working class characters and communities portrayed. The research also found that females watch soap operas the most and the content needs to better appeal to male audiences. In general, those surveyed did not enjoy soap operas, highlighting the need to create a compelling trailer to attract new viewers.
