2. 1
From this the most common age
group analysed was 16-24 which
guessing is the main demographic I
am appealing to at 70%. No one
surveyed is above the age of 54 and
the three other age groups which
are 25-34, 35-44 and 45-54 both
have answered equally at 10% each.
3. 2
Most of the gender surveyed are
female at 60% which supports
Rebecca Feaseyâs theory of âsoap
operas appealing to the strong,
dominant female.â This will mean
that the results given are those that
are expected due to the group
basing the soap opera around this
theory with the narrative themes of
the strong female baking.
4. 3
Many people had seen features
present that were incorporated
within real soap operas such as the
BBC 2 ident, voiceover, critical praise
and multi stranded narrative which
is extremely positive as the
intention was to create a soap opera
trailer as conventional as possible.
Although some people had not
noticed any features present, this
may be because they are so used to
the average soap opera trailer
structure that this prevented them
from noticing any conventions that
were different.
5. 4
80% of people voted that there was
a clear distinction between the
multi stranded narrative and the
flashbacks which is extremely
positive. Written answers such as
âthe black and white effect helps
distinguish itâ is very positive as this
was the main intention. Other
answers read that there was a clear
distinction between the two. Some
answers were negative and some
respondents couldn'tât see the
distinction which is constructive
feedback we can use as a group to
improve our understanding for
making a future trailer.
6. 5
60% understood the characters
narratives which is not very positive
as this is only just over half positive.
As a group we will take this into
consideration and work out a way to
make this more obvious by altering
the narratives and characters
actions of any future trailer
produced by us. The themes may
have been altered by including more
diegetic dialogue to express the
characters more as this was very
absent throughout.
7. 6
100% of audience members
reported that the point of call
information is useful towards the
trailer. Written answers have said
that they are able to âknow when
the program is onâ, âwhat channel its
onâ, âinforms the necessary
informationâ which is great. As a
group this was useful to see as we
would include this for sure in the
future. Constructive criticism was
that more information could've
been included, which is
understandable as we could've
included a tagline such as âTurn up
the heatâ keeping with the baking
theme.
8. 7
77.8% of the respondents reported that
the critical praise increases the overall
hype of the trailer which is very positive
with written answers stating that it makes
them want to watch it more as it is
positive, makes the audience more
inclined to watch and gives assurance
that it will be a good soap. This is positive
as we would include this again in the
future. Constructive criticism features
that they donât know who the soap
magazines are and that it should have
been more believable which is very
positive to reflect on for next time
however, this was hard as we tried to
include all of our newly established
magazines for the praise, next time we
could try and feature already established
soap opera magazines.
