range. This is useful as it
indicates that the majority
of the possible market is the
younger adult range. This
indicates that I should be
aiming the marketing for
the younger generation.
This could also indicate that
my survey might be bias
towards this demographic.

However, there are are
number of females in
the survey so that they
are represented more
fairly.

• These results denote that
the majority of the
respondents do not what
and enjoy soap operas.
This connotes that the
selection of soap operas
currently available does
not offer what the
respondents need as they
do not feel thaw they are
worth watching.
6. How often do you feel that you watch
soap operas
• These results denote that in the opinion of the
respondents that they do not feel that they watch
soap operas. This connotes that they do not feel that
they feel no reason to watch the programs or that
they do not feel that they would enjoy them. This
proves that they might be a need for a new soap
opera such as mine to introduce them to the genre
and change their perspective of the soap opera world.
7. How do you feel gender should be
represented
• This shows that the respondents
believe that women should be
represented more dominantly
than men. This could be due o the
liking of dominant females to the
female audience in accordance to
Rebecca Feasey’s theory that “the
home, domestic tribulations and
strong women, and as such, it has
been long since said to appeal to
the female audience”
8. What do you like or dislike about soap
operas
• These comments amongst many others clearly define the
problems with existing programs such as being too
dramatic and having false drama. This gives me guideline
on what to avoid. However, one respondent outline the
escapism value of the genre and therefore I should try to
keep this as part of the soap opera.
9. Would be interested in a new soap
opera
• These results suggest that
half of the sample denied
wanting to see a new soap
opera. However, if my soap
opera trailer can achieve
what others have not, then
the results may change due
tot h popularity of the
piece. This is especially so
fob the four people who
said that they did not know
weather they would be
interested.
10. What issues do you feel should be
tackled in the narrative?
• These comments show that there is a negative
feeling about existing ways of tackling issues in
society. Most of the comments address the way the
story is told as opposed to the social issues in the
story. Therefore it is important to make my soap
opera suitably action based but also social realism.
One comment stated that multiculturalism as an
issue that needs to be addressed.
11. What do you want to see in a new
soap opera (That may or may not
feature in existing soaps operas)?
• These results connote that the new soap opera ha to
be more action based. This may be to appeal to the
male audience more. One comment stated that the
quality of the acting Is an important feature that is not
met by existing soaps.
12. What marketing techniques would
you expect?
• This clearly shows that
the majority of the
audience are expecting
trailer to be used in the
marketing of the new
soap, this will diffidently
be met. They also
indicated that interviews
with actors were not
important. Posters were
the least important of al
the listed techniques.
