WHAT IS PPEs?
 Personal protective equipment, commonly
referred to as "PPE", is equipment worn to
minimize exposure to hazards that cause
serious workplace injuries and illnesses.
These injuries and illnesses may result
from contact with chemical, radiological,
physical, electrical, mechanical, or other
workplace hazards. Personal protective
equipment may include items such as
gloves, safety glasses and shoes, earplugs
or muffs, hard hats, respirators, or
coveralls, vests and full body suits.
WHY PPEs?
 PPEs protect us from exposure of
chemicals which is resulted in serious
health injury/impact.
 It is requirement of Factories
Act, 1948 to have provisions for use of
appropriate type of PPEs.
 OSHA requires employers to ensure
that employees have appropriate eye or
face protection when exposed to eye or
face hazards.
TYPES OF PPEs
PPEs are of following types:
 Respiratory PPEs: Dust mask, Cartridge
mask (Acid, Base, Organic, combined),
SCBA, Full body suit with breathing air
supply etc.
 Non-respiratory PPEs: Helmet, Safety
shoes, Face shield, Hand gloves,
Chemical resistant suit, safety belts etc.
(Bare feet, sandals, and open-toed shoes
are not permitted when working with
chemicals.)
USAGE OF PPEs
 PPEs should be wear when and where
required as per applicability.
