Modern Learning Ecosystem Design with xAPIMargaret Roth
While the L&D community is increasingly familiar with the Experience API (xAPI) and its value for data collection and interoperability, few examples exist to clarify the value of xAPI as applied within different existing learning infrastructures. This session focused on sharing the ways xAPI can connect and provide value in any eLearning environment.
These slides present a series of different learning ecosystem configurations and the ways xAPI and a learning record store (LRS) can provide value in each case. The three main learning ecosystem configurations examined range from the simplest (LMS and LRS) to three systems connected (LMS, LRS, and CMS) to the fully modular (LRS, LMS, simulations, microlearning, performance assessment, and other tools). For each of these configurations, the presentation shares specific values and practical applications gained by connecting an xAPI LRS to the existing system.

Why xAPI? A Business Leader's Getting Started GuideMargaret Roth
For many L&D teams, getting started with xAPI is all about finding the balance between meeting strategic organization-wide data transformation goals and defining an achievable, feasible, and valuable team-level proof of concept. Getting to this happy medium requires not only an understanding of technical functionality, but more importantly the ability to help your stakeholders understand how they will benefit from an xAPI-powered learning ecosystem and data strategy.
In this webinar, you'll gain an understanding of the foundational conceptual and technical components of xAPI, see examples of xAPI-powered learning ecosystem pilot projects, and learn the necessary first steps to get your team xAPI ready for 2019!

Data Visualization and Learning Analytics with xAPIMargaret Roth
With the Experience API we are able to collect more granular, high-resolution data from our learning tools and platforms. But once we have that data, how do we present it in ways that easily communicate the right insights to our stakeholders?
In this presentation from the xAPI Cohort's Spring 2018 session, you'll find a brief historical survey of data visualizations, three keys to designing good data visualizations, and case studies of xAPI specific data visualizations and the insights they provided to organizations.
IEEE TAG xAPI Webinar Series: Improving the Learner Experience Through an xAP...Margaret Roth
The document summarizes a project to create a personalized learning portal called the Learning Commons that provides learners access to curated content from multiple providers. It tracks learners' progress on competencies using xAPI data. The project involved developing a shared data model to tag content and define competencies. This allowed the portal to surface relevant content, measure skill development, and provide insights for various stakeholders. The outcomes were intended to improve the learner experience through personalized pathways in content and help instructors and organizations make data-driven decisions.

Creating a Data Driven L&D Team - an xAPI Case Study - DevLearn 2018Margaret Roth
From an organization-wide executive directive to become more data-driven, a retail corporate L&D team took an internal look at their own data practices. Realizing that they had an overwhelming lack of transparency into their learning initiatives and a great amount of data that had gone unused, the team developed a transformation vision to create a single system of record for learning to enable observability, granularity, and accountability for all team members. The team was committed to the vision of xAPI; however, the data and information they needed in order to make actionable change for their learners was locked away in non-interoperable formats, and they recognized the need to develop a data strategy and implementation plan.
In this case study session, you will see how the organization’s L&D team created an xAPI data roadmap to not only achieve early wins when it came to the executive business objectives but also begin work on a scalable plan to build out a modern, flexible ecosystem that has the needs of learners at its center.

Reimagining Progress Reports for Mastery-Based EducationMargaret Roth
Leveraging xAPI and the Yet xAPI Learning Record Store, data from across learning tools and platforms have been unified to provide automated reporting to learners and other stakeholders at Khan Lab School.
Khan Lab School is an independent school associated with Khan Academy that runs a personalized, mixed-age program with a project-based learning approach. Because KLS tracks mastery instead of letter grades and groups students by independence level instead of age, a new kind of reporting system is needed to show student progress. Yet Analytics has built role-specific data dashboards for students, teachers, and leadership that pulls data from digital and in-person learning activity to provide a unified view of student progress at KLS.

The Tools You Need to Build the Learning Culture You WantDavid Blake
Most business leaders say they want a culture of learning. But less than one third of corporate learning leaders believe that their organization has one. Part of the problem is that many employees are already looking beyond their employers’ training and driving more of their own development. And the traditional tools of the trade just aren’t enough anymore – not for these hyper-connected, hyper-kinetic workers.

The document introduces SchoolDude KPIs, which are key performance indicators that allow schools to measure their performance across various operational areas compared to peer institutions. It provides over 50 KPIs across areas like maintenance, technology, energy use, and transportation. Schools can use KPIs to set standards, measure progress over time, and identify areas for improvement by seeing how their metrics compare to national averages. The document explains how KPIs are calculated using actual operational data from SchoolDude's database of over 6,000 school clients, and how schools can gain insights from KPIs to justify needs and resources.

Determine how, where, and when to capture evaluation data for all five levels in real-life scenarios and how to apply that data to improve future learning outcomes for your association.
The document discusses initiatives by the Teaching & Learning department in the Richland School District to improve student achievement through Response to Intervention (RTI) and Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). It outlines how the department's responsibilities have expanded under an RTI framework to include adopting research-based curriculum and intervention materials, providing training in screening, diagnostic and progress monitoring assessments, and coordinating budgets across departments. It also discusses the focus on job-embedded professional development for staff in assessments, interventions and using data, as well developing tools and training modules to support RTI implementation and PLCs.
This presentation provides information from an interactive informational session given at the Oakland Literacy Coalition in 2015. The presentation was led by Nada Djordjevich, Paul Gibson and Julie Johnson of Gibson and Associates. The interactive workshop was designed to help non-profits and school-based services understand how to use program evaluation to improve their programs, inform funders and create accountability. The event was designed for an audience somewhat familiar with program evaluation and uses tools designed in multiple contexts, including municipal funding, public health, education, nonprofit arts, childcare and environmental agencies. The event was well-received with several agencies using the tools with their own agencies in follow-up meetings.

How to evaluation 70 20-10 learning ecosystems webinar slidesSprout Labs
70-20-10 blended learning ecosystems are more complex than traditional learning and development activities. They have more components and are connected in more complex ways. Evaluation methods such as post-course surveys don't work with 70-20-10 learning ecosystems, so we need different approaches and methods.
For many learning and development professionals evaluation is an afterthought, but at Sprout Labs we have repeatedly found that a well-designed evaluation approach can help to drive the success of the program.
During this interactive webinar we will explored:
how a mindset of prototyping and feedback can accelerate the maturity of a program
- how to build a culture of evaluation and research in your learning and development team
- technologies for embedding continuous measurement into learning programs
- the use of the Robert Brinkerhoff Success Case Method in the evaluation of 70-20-10 learning models.
