Formation
Main differences
 1) THIRD PERSON SINGULAR –S IS ADDED TO THE VERB:
 Ex: He loves his English class.

 CAREFUL: Study-studies; watch-watches; wash-washes; miss-
    misses; go-goes; has

 2)NEGATIVES: don’t/doesn’t + VERB:
 Ex: He doesn’t like his English class

 3) QUESTIONS: attention to word order:
 ASI: Auxiliary+Subject+Infinitive:
 Ex: Do you like your English class?

 QASI: Question word+Auxiliary+Subject+Infinitive:
 Ex: Why do you like your English class?
 1) TO TALK ABOUT SOMETHING THAT IS ALWAYS
    TRUE:
 Ex.: Winter starts in December.

 2) TO TALK ABOUT SOMETHING THAT IS
    PERMANENT OR HAPPENS REGULARLY (HABITS):
 Ex: We come to class twice a week.

 That’s why we use adverbs of frequency with this
tense: remember normally before the main verb:
 Ex: We always come to class on Tuesdays and
    Thursdays.
 BUT: I’m always late for class.
 Verb “to be”+VERB+-ING:
 Ex.: We’re listening to Ramiro.

 CAREFUL:The consonant is doubled in one syllable
words ending in one vowel and one consonant:
 Ex.:We are planning our holiday
 OR: If the final syllable is stressed:
 Ex.: We are beginning to get bored in class.

 Die-dying Lie-Lying

 PRONUNCIATION: Playing-/pleiin/
 1) For actions in progress at the time of
    speaking:
 Ex.: We are listening to Ramiro right now/at
    the moment.

 2) For future arrangements:

 Ex.: What are you doing later?
 I’m meeting my boyfriend for dinner after
    class.
 We only use the present continuous with
    action verbs.
 With non-action verbs: express states or
    feelings, we don’t:
 Like, hate, love, prefer, want, to be, believe,
    know, belong, depend, need, etc.

 CAREFUL WITH HAVE:
 Non-action:I have a lot of money. (possesion)
 Action: I’m having lunch now. (activity)
