For example, the magazine cover masthead is too long, the trailer could use more music variation, and the poster slogan would work better in the top third like the professional example. In general, it evaluates how well the ancillary pieces adhere to or diverge from typical conventions for horror film marketing collateral.
The document provides an evaluation of how a film poster and magazine cover use, develop, or challenge conventions of real media products.
For the film poster: The title, tagline, image, actors' names, billing block, and color scheme generally use conventions seen in real film posters. Some elements like the placement of the tagline and actors' names develop conventions.
For the magazine cover: The skyline, title, image, main cover line, cover lines, puff, barcode, and color scheme largely reinforce conventions seen in real magazine covers. Some aspects like the close-up image develop conventions. Overall, the media products draw from real conventions while putting their own spin in some areas.

For the magazine cover: The skyline, title, main cover line, cover lines, puff, and barcode reinforce conventions, while the large central image of the actors develops conventions by filling the entire cover rather than having a background. The color schemes of both are consistent with conventions.
1. The document discusses conventions used in magazine covers and how the student's media product follows or develops these conventions. Key conventions included are mastheads, barcodes, prices, cover lines, main images, and skylines.
2. The student's magazine cover follows conventions such as placing the masthead, barcode, cover lines, and main image but develops conventions through choices like a bolder price placement and using a rectangular strip for the skyline text.
3. When discussing the film poster, conventions of title placement and main images are followed but the title placement is developed by being higher on the page rather than at the bottom like most posters.
This document analyzes and summarizes the key elements of three different movie posters representing the horror, romance, and sci-fi genres. It discusses the mise-en-scene, lighting, colors, backgrounds, main images, titles, taglines, credits, logos, and release dates used in each poster and how they appeal to the target audiences for each genre. Elements like mysterious figures, emotional close-ups, and unusual settings are used to set the right tone for horror, romance, and sci-fi. Stereotypical conventions around font choices, placement of elements, and legal requirements are also addressed.
The document discusses various options for presenting a music tour project, including through social media, a website, video, and merchandise. Social media, specifically Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter, would be effective ways to connect with the target 18-21 age audience. A website created on Wix could showcase the tour poster, dates, tickets, and merchandise. A video presentation with audio commentary could display the creative process and final products. Branded merchandise like t-shirts and hoodies could promote the tour and appeal to fans while advertising to the general public. In conclusion, the author decided to create a video presentation and Instagram page to announce the tour and showcase the work.
This document summarizes the student's research process for their Final Major Project (FMP) concepting a tour for the artist The Weeknd. In the first few weeks, the student conducted contextual research on graphic designers to inspire their design style. They then wrote a contextual statement and proposal outlining their project concept. Subsequent weeks involved researching existing tour products, the artist's discography and brand aesthetic, and potential production issues. The goal of the research was to develop expertise on the artist to create a cohesive tour experience consistent with their latest album release.
1) The document summarizes a final major project for a course where the student designed a world tour concept for artist The Weeknd and his album After Hours.
2) Research was conducted on the artist's albums and aesthetics, existing tour designs, and production techniques. Products created included a tour poster, tickets, alternative album cover, and magazine featuring album pages and articles.
3) The presentation outlines the design and production processes, such as effects used to create album art, magazine pages matching album styles, and a glitch effect on the poster and tickets. Samples of the finished products are also included.
The document summarizes a production diary for creating concert visuals and other print products for a music artist. Over several days, the creator worked on animations, an album cover, zine, and other items. For the album cover, they edited photos, added 3D and lighting effects to create curtains and eyes. They also worked on a zine, creating collage-style covers and articles about the artist's albums. The diary details the creative process and problem-solving for each project element.
The student created promotional materials for a hypothetical tour by The Weeknd to support his album "After Hours." Key products included a tour poster, ticket design, alternate album cover, merchandise hoodie design, and a magazine covering The Weeknd's discography. Research on the artist's visual style and existing products helped the student develop cohesive designs that fit with the dark themes of the album and storytelling. Feedback focused on improving readability and consistency across the various designs. Overall, the project captured the distinct aesthetics of each album era while promoting an immersive experience for fans at the tour.
1. The document discusses font choices and designs for various promotional materials for a fictional The Weeknd concert, including concert visuals, posters, tickets, passes, album/merch designs.

The document discusses potential practical and technical problems that could arise during a multimedia production project, and proposes solutions to address them. It outlines issues such as software not working, lost or unsaved work, lack of storage space, power outages, and timing constraints. It also discusses theoretical problems like transport difficulties and high printing costs. The document advocates for preparing backups, contingency plans, and spare time in schedules to accommodate any issues that may occur.
This student proposes creating a world tour concept for an artist including stage visuals, posters, and merchandise. They want to combine their skills in Photoshop and interests in music and media. This project is important as their final piece of college work and will allow them to showcase graphic design skills to potential employers. They plan to research other artists' tour concepts and the chosen artist's aesthetic to design promotional materials in a dark, futuristic style which they have experience exploring.
Saul Bass was an influential graphic designer known for his iconic movie posters and title sequences from the 1950s-1960s. Some of his most famous works included posters for films like Vertigo and The Man with the Golden Arm. Bass had a unique style featuring bold typography and abstract shapes/images related to the film's themes. His work helped establish title sequences as an art form. Bass influenced many modern designers and his work is still studied today for its timeless qualities.
Aries Moross is a British graphic designer known for colorful, typographic designs and illustrations featuring abstract shapes and patterns. They have designed for various music artists and brands. Moross co-founded design studio Studio Moross and cites self-
For their FMP, the student plans to create promotional material and visuals for an artist going on tour. They were inspired by graphic designers Aries Moross and Henock Sileshi, who create eye-catching and colorful designs for albums, tours, and merchandise. The student wants to demonstrate their skills in Photoshop and After Effects while developing a concept similar to their previous projects in film and magazine design. They will brainstorm which artist and album to base the concept on and create visuals, posters, merchandise, and tickets with consistent colors, text, and layout to match the original album aesthetic.
Shanice Yates proposes creating a tour package for a musical artist that includes concert visuals, promotional materials, and merchandise. Over two years in the graphic design course, she has developed skills in Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and After Effects. For her final major project, she will combine these skills to create animations for the concert visuals in After Effects, promotional posters and tickets, and merchandise including a mini artist zine. She will research other designers, the target artist, and the audience aged 18-24 to inform her designs. Progress will be tracked through weekly reflections and evaluated through a final self-evaluation and feedback from the target audience.
The document summarizes the 9 weeks of work Shanice Yates completed for her project "The Grid". In week 1, she researched social media platforms and audiences to develop profiles for their target demographic. In week 2, she created visual identities and mood boards for different themes. Weeks 3-7 involved producing branding elements, researching themes, planning content, and creating digital art images. Week 8 was spent evaluating the project. In week 9, Shanice finished evaluations and submitted all work.
The document provides an evaluation template for a Year Two creative media production project. It includes sections for an overview of the project, research undertaken, development of ideas, outcomes, personal reflections, evaluation of strengths and weaknesses, and assessment of how well conventions were followed. The template guides students to focus on key points, analyze statements, and make judgements about work rather than just describing the process.
The document discusses different aspects of The Grid, a digital art uploading website. It describes the target demographic as ages 18-24 but open to all. The website will have 4 pages showcasing different themes: Illusion, Nature, Fantasy, and Future. Each page will feature digital art in the respective theme's aesthetic and include 10-15 second videos. Inspiration is provided for the Fantasy and Future pages, focusing on mystical and futuristic cyberpunk styles respectively.
This proposal outlines a graphic design project titled "The Grid" that will create a website and digital artworks. The target audience is ages 18-24 who are active on social media and interested in digital art. The student will create logos, images in Photoshop exploring themes of illusion and the future, and animations in After Effects. Research will include digital art trends and platforms. Progress will be tracked through daily reflections and screenshots, and an overall evaluation will assess the project's success in attracting the target audience.
The document discusses how the male gaze theory is relevant when analyzing magazine covers. It provides context on the male gaze theory and how it presents women as objects of male desire. The document then analyzes covers of magazines owned by Hearst Communications, such as Cosmopolitan, Seventeen, and Men's Fitness, finding that they prominently feature sexualized images of women and promote unrealistic beauty standards. While magazine covers aimed at men and women both employ the male gaze, this can negatively influence readers' self-esteem and body image.
This evaluation summarizes a student's music industry fanzine project for a college course. The student conducted research on fanzines and music magazines to plan their fanzine. They created articles on topics like major labels vs independent artists and interviewed an independent artist. While the project faced challenges like losing work, the student learned from mistakes. In the end, the fanzine achieved the goal of informing others about the music industry and was deemed a satisfactory success due to its consistent theme and layout. The student provided critical feedback on areas for improvement in managing time and adding more creative elements.
The document summarizes a production log for a student's fanzine project over 4 weeks. Some key details:
1) In the first week, the student created interview pages with images, text layouts, and effects like gradients and metallic text. They also started pages on record labels and streaming services.
2) In the second week, the student continued pages on interviews, labels, and added a page with fisheye photos and quotes. Backgrounds included torn paper and glitch effects.
3) Due to computer issues, the third week involved recreating lost work, and new pages on gender inequality and streaming services with colorful backgrounds and glitch text.
4) The final week
James the Seventh is an independent artist from Philadelphia who began making music after suffering an injury that prevented him from continuing his career as a ballet dancer. He teaches himself to produce music using Logic software. As an artist, he is inspired by life experiences and other artists like Lana Del Rey, MARINA, and Jorja Smith. His stage name "James the Seventh" comes from being the seventh James in his family lineage. He enjoys the creative freedom of being an independent artist but notes that promotion can be challenging without label support.

2. Conventions: This is a layout plan for my main film poster. As this is the final poster before the
film's 'release', it needs to have the most information on it. I have included all the conventions
need for a main promotional poster. These are the film title, release date, production credits/
billing, actors starring and the main character.
Title: The film title is placed at the bottom center of the poster. It is in bold and written in the
font 'IM Fell English SC'. I will be using an alternative font for my poster which is shown in the
style sheet (next slide). It also has a 'neon' effect added to it which created the green shades
around the text. This makes it stand out amongst the other text and is recognizable as the title.
Text: The release date is placed at the bottom of the poster beneath the billing. It is written in
the font 'Lora', but an alternative font will be used for the final poster. It is enlarged so it is
noticeable and written in white, contrasting the blue earth in the background. This makes it stand
out beneath the film title, this is important because it tells the audience what day it will be
available to watch. The actors' names are listed at the top of the poster in the same font, this tells
the audience the main people who will be starring in the film.
Background: The background is an image in space. It shows two planets, Earth and an unknown
planet facing each other in the top and bottom centre. On either side of the unknown planet are
UFO's. This tells the audience that there will most likely be some sort of conflict between these
two planets. The unknown planet being at the top could suggest that they are the most powerful
or stronger between the two. The planets at opposite sides could also suggest good vs bad. The
main character is centre of the poster in between the two planets and shown with their powers.
This suggests that they may be part of this conflict or even stuck in the middle during this conflict.
There is lots of mystery as the audience doesn't know much about the film from the poster and
leaves open lots of questions. This is good as it may entice the audience to want to see the film
and find out what it's about.
Character: My main character is placed in the centre of the poster. For my plan I used a
silhouette image to show as an example, an actual image of the main character will be used for
my final posters. There will be a full body shot of the character and they will be facing the camera
with a serious expression. They are stood in one of the classic 'superhero' stances and appear
confident and determined. On the characters hands is a beam of light, there is also sort of a
mystical green mist surrounding the bottom half of the character. These are meant to represent
the characters powers and the color of the powers, hence the title 'The Sorceress'.
Techniques planned to use: To create a poster like this, I will be using skills in Photoshop. I will be
using techniques like the one used in my experiment where I created a poster for the film
'Gravity'. I will need to use the quick selection tool, especially when creating my character for the
poster.I will also be using a variation of adjustment layers such as the 'curves' layer to make sure
all the images edited together are consistent with the color scheme. The 'camera raw' tool will be
used for overall color grading near the end of completing the poster.
Flat Plans: Film Poster
3. Poster Style Sheet
Background Colour Scheme:
For the background colour
scheme, as it is based in
space there is blacks and
dark blues for the galaxy.
The grey/white colours will
be for the stars or part of the
galaxy look in the
background. The green
colour will be showing my
characters powers, which I
plan to be surrounding the
character and throughout
the background.
Characters: This colour
scheme is for my main
character and her
costume. The main
colours will be black and
silver/grey. There will
also be hints of green
throughout to represent
the characters powers.
Text Colours: The text
colours is co-ordinated with
the background colour
scheme so it is all cohesive. I
am planning on having the
majority of the logo the dark
grey/ silver colour and the
lighter grey for highlight. The
green colour will be
incorporated throughout the
logo and text. These colours
will stand out amongst the
darker colours in the
background colour scheme.
Fonts:
Font 1: Perry Gothic by DeNada Industries
This is the font I am planning to use for my logo, this will be seen on almost all my products. I love
the gothic style; my character is more of a witchy style and I feel this font would fit them well. It is
bold and eye catching and would fit well with my products.
Font 2: JMH Holy Bible by Jorge Moron
This is an alternative font that I was thinking of possibly using for my tagline. It still has that gothic
style and is bold but less extravagant than the first font. I think that this would fit well with my
logo font as they are a similar style. It is still eye catching but doesn't take away the attention from
the logo, which I am wanting to be a focal point and memorable throughout my products.
Both fonts were found via dafont.com
4. Masthead- This is placed at the top of the cover; it is enlarged and in bold font, so it is noticeable as
the magazine title. This is in the font 'League Spartan', but I will be using an alternative font for my
final magazine cover.
Film Title- My film title 'The Sorceress' is placed at the bottom center of the cover. It is enlarged and
written in the font 'Libre Baskerville'. It also has the neon effect included, which created the green
highlights behind and around the text. For my final cover, my film logo will be placed here instead of
the text, but it will feature a similar font and color scheme as shown on my style sheet.
Cover Lines- These cover lines are what I will be using when making my final cover. There are bold,
attention-grabbing words and phrases written throughout - 'exclusive', 'never before seen' and
'behind the scenes'. These draw the audience in and make them want to read the magazine and get
all the exclusive content. These cover lines are paced around the outside of the magazine, this is so
they don't take attention away from the person that is featured on the cover. They are written in the
font 'Anton' and the letter spacing is adjusted. An alternate font will be used for my final piece.
Some of the text has the neon effect on it, I used this to add the green highlights behind the text, so
it is cohesive with the film title. The rest of the text is in white, this matches the masthead and
contrasts with the darker background.
Color Scheme- The color scheme is black, white and emerald green tones. This will be cohesive
throughout the various products created. This color scheme is mostly based around my main
character, and their costume design and powers.
Barcode + Price- The barcode and magazine price is placed at the bottom left of the magazine. This
is a convention and required when designing a magazine cover.
Cover Photo- The front cover features a silhouette of a full body image of a superhero. For my final
product, my character will be there in place of the silhouette. They are placed center of the cover to
draw attention and are stood with a confident stance. The background features a satellite image of
Earth from space and stars around it. The background image has been adjusted so it has more of a
greener tone, rather than a blue, to match the color scheme of the text around the magazine. This
cover design will be cohesive with my other products and will feature similar elements. For example,
the main character will be centered throughout the products, they will also be in space so the
products will all have a similar background.
Flat Plans: Magazine Cover
5. Magazine Style Sheet
Text Color Scheme: This color scheme is very similar to
the background. This is because I wanted it to match
with the cover image like how many well-known
magazines do. I chose green for some of the text colors
to match my main character and the posters. The text
won't be fully green but have a green glow around the
letters to match the logo. The cover image overall
appears quite dark, the white text will contrast this and
will stand out as the masthead and around the cover.
Grey colored text will also be used to co-ordinate with
the background. However, because this is darker it will
only be this color around the brighter parts of the image.
Background Color Scheme: As the posters all have
a space theme or show the character in space.
The cover image will also have an image of the
main character with a space background. Like my
magazine flat pan, the image will be re-colored to
have more green tones instead of blue. The
emerald green tone that represents the main
characters costume and powers will be the main
undertone in the background. The grey, off white
and black shades will be for the other space
colors in the background image. These colors will
also co-ordinate with the text on the cover.
Cover lines font:
Build Titling by
Typodermic Fonts
Masthead font:
Build Titling by
Typodermic Fonts
I chose this font for my masthead and cover lines
because it is bold, even in a lighter weight, and it
stands out. The letters look crisp, modern and
official and would stand out on a magazine cover. I
will be using the same font for my masthead and
cover lines, so the look is consistent. The masthead
will be in a higher weight like semi-bold or bold, so
it stands out as the title of the magazine. The cover
lines will be in light or regular weight.
6. Flat Plans: Social Media Ads
These are the flat plans for my social media ads. The top image was made to
mimic an Instagram post with the square format. The bottom image was for a
Facebook ad or could even be used as a billboard. The colour scheme is kept
the exact same as the products on the previous slides (*see previous flat
plans and style sheets). For the social media ads, I wanted to include minimal
text opposed to the poster. I included the release date and film title on both
and kept the image and character the main focal point. I have used images
similar to or the same as the ones used in my previous flat plans.
The top image shows a medium body shot of my main character. For my flat
plan I used a silhouette image but this will be replaced with my character in
the actual design. Behind her is the space background that is featured on the
other products, and also one of the planets that is shown on the poster. Her
powers are also presented and surrounding her.
The bottom image shows a full body shot of my
main character. The layout of this is similar to
the film poster but in a different format. There
are the two planets facing each other, but they
are placed to the left and right of the poster
instead. This layout is different to cater to the
rectangular format of the ad. The film title and
release date is placed at the top and bottom of
the image and the film title is slightly behind
the character.
7. Flat Plans: Merchandise
For my merchandise flat plan, I created a t-shirt and
mug design. For this design I wanted to incorporate
the poster design and layout to keep it consistent, I
also wanted it to look more like a logo or design
rather than a film advertisement and title. To create
this design, I chose one of the planets from the
posters and centred it behind the character, the
characters silhouette is featured and her powers
presented. This design still remains consistent with
the other promotional products but with a more
space themed design rather than an obvious film
promotion. I ensured the design fit on different
colour backgrounds and on different sizes as shown
on the images of the t-shirts. I also added this design
to a mug mock-up to show that I will be making a
variation of products and not only just posters and t-
shirt designs.

13. Risk Assessment
Potential Risk Solution
Water is spilled on computer or electricals. If water
is spilled in class on the computer or any other
electricals, this could break the device. It is also very
dangerous to myself and anyone in the class.
To prevent this, I will make sure to not have water in
the classroom and make sure the computer I'm working
on isn't near any water.
Chair may break. This could cause injury to myself and
potentially others depending on how it breaks.
To prevent, make sure the chair is suitable to sit on before
using and make sure it doesn't look damaged. If it is
damaged or could possibly break then make the tutor
aware of this.
Wires left open on the desk and floor. This could
dangerous and cause a tripping hazard or risk of getting
the mouse caught in the wires.
Make sure wires are tucked away behind the back of the
computer so there is open space for the keyboard and
mouse.
14. Contingency Planning
Potential Issue Solution
Issues with transport. I travel to college by train and bus,
with these modes of transport there is risk of them arriving
late, or not arriving at all in some cases. This will affect my
work as I may be late into college meaning I have less time
working on production.
If I know about these issues ahead of time, I will arrange
to get an earlier train or bus to make sure I arrive on time.
If these happen unexpectedly, I will have to possibly arrange
a lift to college with family members. I would also make up
the time I missed in college in my own time.
Files corrupt. If my files corrupt from any photographs taken
or work done on software then I will lose all of that work. This
could affect my production schedule as I will now need to
make time to redo the work.
Make sure to have backups saved on multiple devices e.g.,
OneDrive, USBs, external hard drives. If files corrupt on all of
these then I will have to redo the work, if I've screenshotted
my process throughout the day for my production diary, then
I should be able to redo the work fast and get the same
result.
Run out of file storage. If I run out of file storage, I won't be
able to save my work and will lose my progress.
I will make sure there is enough file storage before I do any
work or take any photographs. I could also save my work in
a folder on OneDrive or bring external storage like a USB.
Mac computers stop working. If the Macs at college stop
working, I won't be able to do any work that day. This will
affect my schedule as I will need to make up the time I
missed working on production.
If the computer I use stops working, I could try another
computer in class if there is one available. If they don't work
or there isn't any available then I would have to use my
computer at home after college, and work on something else
in college.
15. Health and Safety

spending too much time in front of the screen. This can
also help re-gain focus.
Tripping on bags or equipment left out Make sure all bags are tucked under desks and any
equipment is on/under desks or out of the way of the
walkway.
Back pain from poor posture whilst working on the
computer.
Make sure to take regular breaks at appropriate times get
some exercise such as walking around, this will help
prevent the back pain.

For the links listed in the resources needed table, these are links to websites that have free to download, royalty free photos.
Because I do not know anyone able to model as my character, and my concept is set in space. I will need to use royalty free photos
to edit the space images and the character. To make sure this is my own work, I will edit all the photos as much as possible to make
them different from the original and demonstrate my skills.
The character design will also be my own original design. I will make sure to link the photos I use.
I will be using Adobe Photoshop for most of my work and making all aspects digitally, this software is used for photo editing and
design, it is also used for creating and editing mockups which I will be using when designing merchandise. I will be using Adobe
Illustrator to create my film logo; this software is used to create digital images and typography. If needed I will also use it for text
on other products e.g., magazine cover.
18. Pre-production
• What are you making? (explain what you have been asked to do)
For my FMP, I am making a promotional package for a superhero film concept I created called 'The Sorceress'.
(write what it's about). A promotional package is a collection of media products that is created to attract a
target audience's attention towards a product. E.g. films, tv shows, food products. The promotional package
that I am making will have a variation of different media products. I will be making 3 different posters to
promote the film- a teaser, character and main/final poster. I will be designing a variation of different ads, I will
be making a bus ad and social media ads in different formats for different social media websites or apps. I will
also be designing merchandise, as these are popular products sold before and after superhero films. Products
such as t-shirts and a phone case design will also be made.
• Why? (What is the purpose of making your Film)
I chose to do this for my project as I would like to go on to study advertising and graphic design at university
and would like to work in that industry. I thought that choosing this for my project would best showcase my
skills and also help develop my skills. As this is my final project for my first year, I also wanted to work on a
project I enjoy and are passionate about as I will be spending a lot of time working on it. I have also always
enjoyed the superhero film genre so I thought this would be the best choice for a film concept to promote.

19. Pre-production
• Who is it for? (Audience)
My target audience is ages 16-20. This is the age group that I fall under so I should be able to create products
that attract this age category. Also, according to morningconsult.com, the age group 18-29 were the only age
group where the majority said they enjoy superhero films and will continue to see them.
• Where will it appear/on what? (How will audience see it)
To submit my work to be graded, it must be uploaded on to my FMP blog on 'Blogger' so this is how the
audience will be able to see the products.
