The poster analyzes features two thriller movie posters. Both posters convey mystery and conflict through their visual elements. The first poster features two male characters on either side of a female protagonist, suggesting tension. Dark colors and the characters' body language further imply mystery and potential conflict. The second poster stands out through its use of black background, drawing attention to the lead actor. Mysterious eye contact and a "glitch" in the title enhance the thriller genre. The analyzed posters inform the design of the student's own thriller poster, focusing on visual symbols of opposing characters and an atmosphere of secrecy through lighting and colors.

2. In the poster, The female character is seen at the centre of
the image, with two male character either side of her facing
away from each other. I choose this poster as I find this
main image rather striking in terms of the meanings it
conveys and the layout is similar as to how I want to lay
my poster out. Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale are
edited in either side of the woman protagonist with their
backs turned against each other. This conveys an idea of
potential conflict as their body language and frustrated
facial expression help establish this too. By positioning the
woman at the centre of the image it conveys her
importance within the movie and her link between both of
the male characters also, it conveys this idea she is the
main character/protagonist. We as the audience are
automatically drawn to her gaze as she is looking straight
into the camera lens whilst the other two characters are
looking away. The colours of this poster are very dark,
elements of black grey white and blue are seen. The idea
that the background is split into black and white suggests
the two persona’s within the movie may oppose one
another and that a lot of darkness/mystery is seen within
the film, which helps establish the genre. The main
character however appears to be appearing in a blue flame
which helps her stand out even more and creates the idea
that fire or a flame may be important within this film in
symbolizing something.

3.  The title and other texts on the poster are all
within the same colour of white , although this is
simple it helps the audience’s attention to be
drawn to the image rather than the information
given. The title is in the biggest font which
conveys usual poster conventions. The stars
names are printed at the top with a title of ‘from
the director of batman begins and memento’
which acts as a form of marketing in drawing
people into the film, as both these films listed
were extremely successful. I feel this is a great
technique to use to help interest an audience
and may use this in my poster too. It seems as if
the woman (flame) splits the screen in half and
for my poster I want mine to have the same
effect to represent my character’s alter-ego and
how the main character is the one who
separates the two as in my plot she is the one
who makes him better. I also particularly like the
way the character’s are shot to face away from
each other as I feel this body language would
be useful in my poster in conveying opposites,
the ‘good’ and the ‘bad’.

4. In this poster the overall appearance comes across as being quite ‘dark’. Firstly
the background is completely black, unlike the previous poster which separated
it into black and white. This black background is useful as it makes the main
image of the actor Johnny Depp in character, stand out. This black also is useful
in conveying the genre of thriller to the film as black I have learnt when studying
connotes darkness and mystery. Another element that helps convey the genre to
the film is the main image as we as an audience are instantly drawn to the
character’s eyes. The character’s eyes are looking away mysteriously from the
camera to the right hand side as if they have jus spotted something, which
conveys this idea of mystery. This of course is useful in creating enigma for an
audience as to what he is looking at. Other colours used in this poster are Red
and white, in particular the poster focuses on using ‘red’ for it’s titles of the
actor’s name, film title and tagline. This colour red contrasts with the black and
therefore is very striking and can grip an audience’s attention as to what it reads.
All the important information is used in a bigger sized font. Similarly to the
previous poster, the film title remains in the biggest font size and some of it is in
bold to help it stand out even more. As well as this the second half of the title
‘Window’ has an effect on the text where it looks like it has had a glitch as it is
slightly disorientated. I like this idea a lot as it adds meaning to the title, I may
use a similar idea like this for my film poster to help link it to the plot and genre of
my film. The colour scheme for the poster is what I want to follow for my film
poster as Red and black symbolize both my characters within my film and I feel
also create a striking image when combined. This poster uses a tagline and a
line stating ‘from the director of’ to both act as marketing strategies, to interest an
audience even further, the tagline is placed beneath the film title, so it is the last
thing we as an audience read. I like this idea and think I will use it for my poster
to make sure the film sticks within their minds. Also the side light and half lighten
face in the image is very interesting to look at as it conveys many ideas of
secrecy and danger due to the actor’s face being almost hidden from us. These
ideas both link to my film and my antagonist so when it comes to shooting our
antagonist in our photo shoot we will make sure we will feature elements of side
light to convey these ideas.
