India
• CITES is an international agreement between governments. Its aim is
to ensure that international trade in specimens of wild animals and
plants does not threaten their survival.
• Formation of reserve areas like National Parks, Sanctuaries, Biosphere
Reserves.
• All the states, excluding Jammu and Kashmir (it has its own Act),
adopted Wildlife (Protection) Act in 1972 which prohibits any type of
trade for endangered and rare species.

• The Central Government provides every type of financial assistance
to the State Governments for the conservation and protection of the
endangered species.

Protection Act became effective in 1972. According to the latest tiger
census (2015), there is an overall increase of 30% in tiger population.
In 2010, there were 1700 tigers left in India according to tiger census

• In 1992, Central Zoo Authority (CZA) was initiated for the
