June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Polymers,Superabsorbent polymer keeps the armpit dry,IDM9
1.
2. • Introduction
• Activity 1: Changing polymer pellets
• Activity 2: Hunting for polymer products
• Activity 3: Comparing the viscosity of liquids
• Activity 4: Testing the strength of different
polymer films
• Design Project (Designing a Humidity Sensor)
• Product Idea (Superabsorbent polymer
Keeps the armpit dry.)
3. Polymer is Huge molecules that
consist of a multiple small
molecules called (monomers).
4. Objective : Understand how Polymer pellets work.
Procedure :
1) Prepare two samples 0.5 g of polymer pellets
2) Add 10 ml of water to each sample , then observe the
results
3) Measure the mass to each sample
4) Add 10 ml of plain water to sample A , & 10 ml of
saturated salt water to sample B , then observe the results
5) Filter leftover liquid to make samples easier to handle, by
using paper towel , then measure the mass of samples
5. Results : Polymer absorbs water , so the mass of pellets
increased in both samples after addition of plain water
for the first time.
Sample A absorbed more water after addition of plain
water for the second time
Sample B released the water after addition of the salt
water
Conclusion : water moves through polymer depends
on Osmosis of water ( moving of water molecules from
low salt concentration to high
salt concentration ) .
6. Activity 2
Hunting for polymer products
• Objective : Make a data table that contain :
1) Name of products made of polymers
2) Uses of products
3) Type of polymer ( natural / synthetic )
4) Name of polymer
5) Physical properties of the polymer
• Procedure :
1) List in data table the polymer products in the room , then
describe its uses
2) Determine type of polymer ( natural / synthetic ) , then
identify the polymers name
3) Describe the physical properties of the polymer
4) Compare the number of polymer products , then identify
products as being made of polymers
8. Conclusion : Polymers ( natural or
synthetic ) are used & found in most of
products in our life .
Activity 2
Hunting for polymer products
9. Objective : Knowing about the viscosity of liquids & the amount of
time that bubble takes to move through each liquid
Procedure :
1) Examine the liquid of each vial , then record the observation
2) Turn over the vials , then record the time that it takes air bubble to
reach to the opposite end by using stopwatch
10. Results : Bubble moves faster in Methanol , then
Ethylene glycol , then Glycerol have the slowest
movement
Conclusion : Polymers with higher molecular weight
have highest Viscosity , & Polymers with lower
molecular weight have less Viscosity
11. Objective :
knowing the strength of different polymers films
Procedure :
label two microslides with the molecular
weight of one of the poly(vinyl acetete)
Solutions .
Use the pipette to draw the appropriate
poly(vinyl acetate) solution.
Dispense the solution from the pipette as
evenly as possible onto the unlabeled side of
one of the slides .
Use a coin to drop a watch glass over the two
slides .
12. Results :
PVAc 260 have the highest strength.
PVAc 100 have the lowest strength.
Conclusion : when the molecular
weight increase the strength of the
polymer films will increase.
13. Objective: Design a Humidity Sensor
Procedure/prototypes :
1) Design a thin polymer film made of three
different polymers
2) The sensor must be durable
3) The sensor contain Cobalt (II) Cholride as
indicator ( blue – dry , pink – wet )
4) The sensor gives visual response within 10
min
5) The sensor have reversible response
14. Results : Sensor number 3 that made of
polyvinyl alcohol gives the best model of
humidity sensor
Conclusion : the best polymer that used in
humidity sensor that have less molecular
weight
15. Introduction and Rationale:
Some polymers have high ability to absorb water in its
spaces, so we can use Superabsorbent polymer ( SAPs )
[ Slush Powder ] to absorb sweat in armpit to keep it dry, then
we can prevent bad smell of sweating to spread.
Aim of the work (objectives)
using Superabsorbent polymer
to Keeps the armpit dry & prevent
bad smell of sweating to appear.
16. Hypothesis :
Superabsorbent polymer can absorb sweat & Keeps the
armpit dry.
17. Product Story :
Through working with Al-Bairaq team we
learned a lot about polymers, specially
that some polymers have ability to absorb
water, & be gel-like shape.
So we think about using sticks that prevent
bad smell of sweating to appear in
armpit, specially people who has
Sweating problem.
18. Materials & Methods :
1) Superabsorbent polymer (Slush Powder)
2) Cotton
3) Cotton Sacs
Put Superabsorbent polymer in thin
sacs that contain cotton , that be permeable to
sweat to be absorbed.
19. Results:
Professors stick prevent bad smell of
sweating to appear.
This is the first stick that use, so its efficient for
peoples have high sweating secretion.
20. Recommendations :
We recommend pharmaceutical factories
to use & develop our product.
Cost-benefit of the project are high,
because peoples need to find an efficient
solution for bad sweating smell.
21. Conclusion :
Using of Professors stick prevent bad smell of
sweating to appear
We get high experience by participate with
Al-Bairaq competitions.
