Definition Of Professionalism And Professionalism
Professionalism
Chanda Hutton Baker College Flint
PROFESSIONALISM
Definition
My definition of professionalism is a person that carries themselves in a respectful manner. The
professional is educated, has a clean appearance, well spoken, and treats others with respect and
integrity. When a person is not professional it reflects poorly on the company. I have experienced
unprofessional behavior quite often. I have seen nurses, and other medical professionals, act
unprofessional. I will share a story of a very unprofessional situation. This situation put me in a
position where I had to make a moral and legal decision and take the appropriate action. Two nurse
aids were bathing a man that was in a coma. He had a penal implant from having prostate cancer. The
implant was a pump. While bathing him the girls pumped his penis up, took pictures and sent the
pictures to my phone along with derogatory remarks. The girls thought this was funny. I did not. I
thought it was extremely unprofessional, and degrading to that patient. The girls were my friends, so
the decision I had to make was not easy. I went to my nurse manager and took the appropriate action
and steps. The girls did lose their jobs. I did feel bad for them, but I felt worse for that man. I had to
do what was right.
Importance of Professional Behavior Professional behavior is important in the nursing profession
because of the long road it took for nurses to be recognized as a profession and

Analysis Of A Thousand Splendid Sunss
Great authors use literary elements to develop novels. In A Thousand Splendid Suns, Mariam, born
out of wedlock, lives in Afghanistan. Afghan society refers to children born out of wedlock as a
harami , Nana, her mom, emphasizes this to Mariam constantly. Later on in the novel, Laila, Mariam s
sister wife has a harami herself. Khaled Hosseini uses characterization and tone to compare and
contrast the ways Nana and Laila cope with having a harami, showing that Laila overcomes the
stereotype. Hosseini uses characterization of Mariam through Nana s upbringing to develop the
subject of self doubt. Mariam, born out of wedlock, becomes shamed and targeted by her mother,
Nana. Nana always told her that she was an illegitimate person who would never have legitimate
claim to the things other people had, things such as love, family, home, and acceptance (4). Not
knowing any better, Mariam believes that she does not deserve the same personal rights as everyone
because of her social status, even though she cannot control that. Nana blamed Mariam for the
embarrassment, guilt, and shame of having a harami, making Mariam feel at fault. Nana makes
Mariam feel lonely, undeserving, and insecure, because of her status, which she did not choose.
Always dealing with Nana s harsh words, it did not occur to young Mariam to ponder the unfairness of
apologizing for the manner of her own birth (7). Nana s hurtful words guilted Mariam into taking the
blame over things she did not cause or

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Onion
Make your marketing so useful people would pay for it (Baer). Marketers use wild variations of
strategies to appeal to their consumers, which materializes ridicule among marketing companies.
Commercialized businesses accommodate useful tactics to appeal to their audience. In a mock press
conference, MagnaSoles, magical shoe inserts, are analyzed humorously. In their humorous press
release to the public, The Onion perceives the marketing industry in a satirical way by explaining their
purpose of effectively using the rhetorical devices ethos, logos, and pathos. Principally, the rhetorician
proselytizes the congregation to distinguish satirical messages using an ethos example. MagnaSoles

An overly depicted view of foot pain is acknowledged. Within the conference, the speaker exclaims,
the entire body will suffer (The Onion). The company uses contrasting statements to attach their
product to the intended audience using ridicule. An over exemplification of a real life example appears
acutely fredible. Concludingly, MagnaSoles company over emphasizes patients experiences. At the
climax, the rhetorician concludes, I ve noticed a significant decrease in pain and can now walk
comfortably (The Onion). By connecting the success of one case, the audience feels affixed through
conclusive evidence in spite of humorous detail. Pathos contaminates devotees by providing a
connectable experience to persuade their motives. The rhetorical effect of pathos connects the

The Causes Of Poverty And Underdevelopment
The causes of poverty and underdevelopment are found in both theories of Modernisation and
Dependency. Both of the theories discover and explain their views regarding the modern world,
existing relationships and differences between the Third World and developing countries. The theories
both have similarities and differences in their approaches to poverty and undeveloped countries.
Solutions are suggested by both theories, giving different strategies to improve the gaps or
connections between the developed and underdeveloped countries and societies.
Wehler (1975:11) explains the concept of Modernisation to be the development from traditional to
modern societies. Historically modernisation is the process of change towards those types of social,
economic, and political systems that have developed in Western Europe and North America
(Eisenstadt,1966, as cited in Chandra Sharma, 2015, p. 210). The modernisation theory sees poverty
and underdevelopment as a result of a traditional society system (Greig, et al., 2007). The typical
characteristics of a traditional society are its stagnancy, unchanging status quo , dominance of spiritual
values, unprogressive and not innovative nature, and its subsistence ways of living (Isbister, 2001).
This theory believes that the rich developed countries are wealthy because they practice the accurate
form of contemporary beliefs and values rather than following their traditional society practices. The
theory implies that if people continue

Patrick Henry Essay
Patrick Henry Patrick Henry was a great patriot. He never used his fists or guns to fight
for his country, but he used a much more powerful weapon at which he held great skill:
his words. Possibly the greatest orator of his time, his speeches such as quot;Give Me Liberty
or Give Me Death quot; struck a cord in the American spirit of those who opposed oppression
and tyranny. Henry was born on May 29th, 1736 in Studley, Virginia. His schooling was
basic; elementary school, then trained in the classics by his father. His father, John Henry
was an well educated Scotsman who was a surveyor, colonel, and justice of the local
county court. Still young, Patrick Henry first took up storekeeping in which he failed
twice, and then farming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of Correspondence, a delegate in the Continental Congresses, and was commander of
Virginian forces during wartime. During wartime he devised strategies that were not
looked high upon by his over lookers and he decided to resign from his post in early
1776. After leaving military duty he helped draft the first constitution of the state of
Virginia, the same year he was elected governor the first three times for one year terms.
Although resigned from the American Military he still gave General Washington his full
support, and authorized the invasion of Illinois by George Rogers Clark. After the death
of his first wife he soon remarried then retired, but several times he was called back into
public service. First to the Virginia state legislature in 1784, and then as governor from
1784 until 1786. He decided not to attend the Philadelphia Constitutional convention of
1787, and was the leading opponent of the newly drafted U.S. Constitution. Partially
because he believed it did not grant enough freedoms to individuals and enough rights to
states. But after the creation of the Bill of Rights (In which he had much involvment),
Henry was satisfied and returned to a strong position in politics. In his last speech before
his death, he was still calling for the unification of the colonies and he still carried the

Disadvantages Of Patio Umbrellas
One of the most common features of any outdoor décor is the use of patio umbrellas. We see them
everywhere; from the simplest ice cream man to the most contemporary, sophisticated dining outlet in
the heart of the city. There are a few reasons why patio umbrellas are so favoured over other types of
outdoor furnishing:
1. They are affordable. Unlike floor tiling, wall paneling or paintings which can be extremely
expensive, outdoor umbrellas are relatively cheap. Considering the fact that they can create that exact
same effect we want for our outdoor spaces, it is no wonder they are usually a first option.
2. They are very accessible. It is also very easy to find these umbrellas. Almost any shop that does
refurbishing will have some available for our perusal, or at least be able to direct us to one reliable
source.
3. Patio umbrellas can be personalized or custom made at a relatively cheap cost. In a commercial
setting, branding is everything. And having an outdoor umbrella on the premises means we have an
extra vehicle for marketing our name. This can be done at a reasonable price quite easily, which
reduces the stress of us having to carve our names into the furniture or pay artists an exorbitant price
for graffiti branding on the floor tiles.
4. They are user friendly. There is no need for complicated manuals or help from any professional
(except for some particular types of offset umbrellas) in the daily setting up and down of these
umbrellas. Patio umbrellas for

The Failure Of Sighet Jews Essay
Describe the failure of Sighet Jews to anticipate Nazi terrorism. The Jews of Sighet were of disproving
failure to anticipate Nazi terrorism in reason of two factors: disbelief by doubt and ignorant fear
within themselves and their community of Hitler s extermination strategy. In Night, the author
introduces his life as a teenager and his relations with Moshe the Beadle, a shtibl who would joyfully
about the Kabbalah and its mysterious revelations and guide him into studying such esoteric tradition,
but then drone endlessly about his abhorrent experience of being imprisoned as a deportee.
Unfortunately, no matter how much he spoke of it, his words became dust as they left his mouth and
had blown in A calming, reassuring wind (Wiesel, 6). The people of Sighet bypassed Moshe s warning
signal simply by not taking him seriously, and Wiesel verifies this expression in page 7, presuming
how everyone refused to believe his tales and ...to listen, which led them in believing that that he
wanted their pity...was imagining things... and had gone mad . This doubt provoked the inconvenience
of Moshe s hopes to inform his people as a preliminary to an impending event. Wiesel later notes
about the ignorant temper that everyone, including himself, showed towards Hitler s upcoming
massacre; they felt that they were in the abstract and The Germans...[would only] stay in
Budapest...For strategic...political reasons (8). Citizens of the city facaded their apprehension of this

The Theory Of Sexual Orientation
Chapter 9 looks at sexuality and how it is perceived around the world. It analyzes how each unique
culture recognizes homosexuality, heterosexuality, and bisexuality as a whole. It uses this information
to formulate facts, opinions, and ideas in regard to all three of these concepts.
This chapter considers gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation. All three of these
definitions have to do with how we classify ourselves, not how society classifies us. Thus, we should
have the freedom to decide what makes us happy, we should not have to conform to societies beliefs.
There are five different theories of sexual orientation that are examined and discussed in this chapter. I
think it is important to consider each theory and understand why they were created. The first being the
structural functionalist perspective focuses on having safe heterosexual relationships without cheating
to ensure safe child rearing and a regular family dynamic for the child to grow up in (300). The second
being the conflict perspective focuses on the power difference between the straight individuals and all
the members of the LGBT community. The straight individuals are seen as more powerful because
they are the norm meaning that are the dominant group. The LGBT community is the community with
the least amount of power, especially in 1973 when being gay was considered a mental illness or
mental disorder (301). The third being the symbolic interactionist perspective which focuses

B And Franki Essay
What does your study of power reveal about the way Sue, Josh and Franki interact in Texts A, B and
C?
Texts A, B and C are different conversations between Sue, Josh and Franki. Sue is a childminder and
therefore has a familiar relationship with the children, Josh and Franki, who are siblings.
In Text A and C, Sue holds a continual power throughout the conversations unlike in text B, where
Josh holds the power. This continues a vein of the elder participant in the conversation holding power
over the younger participant(s). Sue controls topic management, through the conversations she holds;
she engages with the children by using interrogatives What are you going to do now? , What have you
been up to, today? and How are you, Franki? This could help Sue encourage conversation between the
children, in order to maintain a friendly relationship with them as a childminder, it is her duty to
preserve a good bond and in this way, she also manages to get the children to do as she says. This can
also be linked to Bruner s theory on child interaction as he talks about children learning language
through engaging with adults. Another purpose for Sue s open questions could be, as a childminder,
she feels she is obligated to help the children learn language and ... Show more content on

that Josh is in control over Franki and he also uses spoken discourse features such as the repetitive

youth, refuses any show of power over her by using minimal responses like oh, , okay , wait , and

Avon s Investments Fall Short by Hannah Karp, Wall Street Journal, December 8, 2011
QUESTIONS:
1: Briefly describe the main points of the article.
The article highlights Avon Products Inc. s financial and regulatory woes.
Avon s wide and persistent gap between net income and free cash flows have been highlighted as the
main reason for the company s problems. The gap indicates that the company s investments aren t
paying off very well and that its net income doesn t fully reflect depreciation and other costs of those
investments.
Other problems like computerized supply management system in Latin America, Avon s direct selling
model ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the company s reliance on its direct selling business model, earning potential and satisfaction
of its representatives and maintaining its business model are essential for the company s success in
global markets Thus, I would treat every market with a separate strategy and while keeping the direct
selling model as the core strategy I would capitalize on the local market s requirements.
For example, in India if we focus on empowering the homemakers as business women from the
comforts of their home we can really work on the people s psyche.
Example 2: Secondly, I would revitalize and streamline the company s product lineup and make
product introductions more consistent with market and consumer needs. I would ensure to introduce
new products in every season to generate excitement and attract consumer attention.
To ensure growth I would look at some inorganic growth mechanisms such as mergers and
acquisitions. I would look to acquire local profit making beauty product companies in emerging
markets that would fit in with Avon s business synergies and help the company recreate its brand and
position in the world market.
5: After this article was published in December 2011, what changes has Avon implemented?
After this article was published in December 2011, Avon indicated that a new management was
needed to rejuvenate itself amid slowing sales. It was announced that Andrea Jung, who had headed

The Pros And Cons Of Traditional Chinese Medicine
Do you believe in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM)? In ancient time, daifu (the doctors who are the
specialists in traditional Chinese medicine) used to check patient s pulse to tell if someone was
pregnant or how was someone s health condition. TCM practitioners use herbal medicines and various
mind and body practices, such as acupuncture and tai chi, to treat diseases or prevent health problems.
It just like a chronic process to help you get healed. However, as traditional Chinese medicine is
becoming increasingly popular all over the world, some concerns are raised by scientists, even the
doctors in China. For instance, Dr. Ning Fanggang is offering 100,000 renminbi ($16,300) to anyone

Traditional Chinese medicine should not be used widely for the following reasons: the prescription
and diagnoses are not accurate, it contains potential toxins, and it is not effective in some diseases. To
begin with, traditional Chinese medicine is inaccurate with its amounts in prescription and less
stringent in the uses for treating patients, which causes some serious effects. First, the use of herbal
medicine in TCM as dietary supplements are not stringent enough to be recognized as drugs. In the
United States, the products contains herbal medicine are sold in the market only as an extra support,
but cannot be seen as a drug that is used to treat people. The problem is, they are not stringent enough
to keep the regulations of them the same as those for prescription or over the counter drugs, according
to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). So far, there is insufficient evidence from the
manufacturers to prove to the FDA that the component of this herbal medicine can be seen as drugs.

My Summer Camp
It was the last day of my summer camp, the night before my Boy Scout troop would pack all their gear
and leave the coast of the Puget Sound, and go back to the suburbia where most of the kids in the
troop lived. The last day of summer camp, at least at Camp Parsons, was the Hullabaloo. The
Hullabaloo was a great gathering of all the patrols, in a large grass covered area, bordering a beach
and then the Puget Sound. The whole area was dotted with green trees, and was overlooked by a very
large cabin like building, which acted as the meal room for all the troops at camp. The cabin like
building was a dark brown, built on the outside with logs, but on the inside a sort of insulated faux log.
The inside was very spacious and lined up along the walls were about 50 long tables for the various
troops at camp. Even in this large room, there wasn t always enough space to fit the scouts from all the
troops, so it was safe to say that my patrol had a lot of competition. All the patrols would compete for
a trophy (a carved block of wood, painted yellow and with the purple letters CP stating: FIRST
PLACE). Each troop usually has more than one patrol, each patrol being about 5 10 people, so my
troop (of about 25 people) had two. When we were all let loose from the cabin like meal house to
compete in various team building activities and compete in stations set around the camp (stations such
as fire starting, knotting, and building shelters), my patrol started sprinting over the hills and

Prison Population In America Essay
How does prison population in America is different from others?
America nowadays is one of the most populated countries in the world and advanced in technology,
but sometimes bad things happen to good people and that s terrible, and something should be done
about it. When we send people to prison to being punish or correct their errors or prevent other things

America have a 4% of population in the world, and 25% incarcerated in the USA, it is the country
with highest incarceration rate in the world.

Correspondence
In America, and also in Mexico many institutions accept them to send letters when they can t go visit.
However, guidelines exist as to what constitutes acceptable mail, and these policies are strictly
enforced.
Mail sent to inmates in violation of prison policies can cost, and even lead to punishment.
Weddings
As in both Mexico and America weddings are allowed only by strict orders and in case it doesn t apply

Wearable Health Monitoring Devices Can Be Enhanced By...
There is an explosive growth in wearable computing devices over the past couple of years mostly due
to technological advances in smart devices. Although most of these are self care monitoring devices
the need for assisted living where a patient can be monitored continuously using these devices are
emerging fast. In a typical tracking system, various vital biological signals, fall risks and changes in
predetermined health conditions are collected via sensors and shared with medical professionals for
intervention if necessary. Most popular applications of self care monitoring include daily activity
monitoring, emergency and fall detection, and rehabilitation. Despite these useful applications, the
paradigms such as autonomy, context awareness, and spontaneous interactions are not well integrated
into these existing systems yet.
Existing wearable health monitoring devices can be enhanced by adding adaptive biofeedback and
control capability. This will transform the current wearable health monitoring devices from a passive
monitoring device to a real time treatment assistive device. Such a device is capable of not only
collecting, storing, and monitoring raw and synthesised data similar to the current wearable healthcare
devices, but can also provide autonomous reconfiguration, controlled treatment processes by using
collected data to provide intelligent local and remote feedback with decision making. There are a large
number of applications that can be benefited from such a

The Fives System
The FiveS system, also known as the 5S, is a organization system created at first for production
systems and then adapted by western managers for the workplace. Hiroyuki Hirano developed the
system in Japan and it is believed it lead to the very popular Just in time (JIT) manufacturing. For
example, major brands like Toyota have been using this system successfully for years. 5S is based on
the phrase a place for everything and everything in its place. (Byrne) Meaning that the workplace
should have everything you need, when you need it. In the workplace, it is believed that the
environment is key into the employee s behaviors. For example, if your mind is clear and you don t

In my experience as a student, I learned that organization and order are essential for me to achieve my
goals and getting everything done on time. Without a clean organized desk, I can t do my assignments
as fast and efficient as I would if it was. That is because I will waste time cleaning and finding
resources and also I will be paying attention to other things that I shouldn t. In any organization, the
principle is the same because we have the same human behavior. Based on that, it is clear that
implementing the 5S system is very positive for organizations and it is a key concept in organizational
behavior. Pillars The FiveS system is based on five pillars mentioned above. It is important to know
that the system is cyclical, meaning every step follows another and has to be done in the right order
for it to work. Figure 1 shows a good diagram of how the system works and how the last S, sustain,
makes sure that the steps keep going and improving. If done correctly, it should result in continuous
improvement of the organization s workplace. The first pillar, called Sort, relates to elimination of
everything in the workplace that is unnecessary to the employee s tasks. This will create opening of

down employee tasks. There are several methods to achieve this, the most popular being red tagging .

Climate Change No Hiding Place Analysis
Climate change, global warming, greenhouse effect even if you only watch the news periodically,
these are phrases that you have most likely become aware of. In short, climate change is the change
global and regional patterns regarding climate; this is due to possible changes in the Earth s axis,
human activity modifying the composition of the atmosphere, or geographical activity such as
volcanic eruptions [1]. Many have speculated and argued whether climate change actually exists.
Regardless of your opinion, a staggering amount of scientists have accepted climate change as a
reality. In fact, the much admired astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson claims that individuals denying
scientific facts is the beginning of the end of an informed democracy [2]. The article Climate Change:
No Hiding Place supports Neil deGrasse Tyson s notion stating those who doubt that greenhouse gases
are quite the problem they have been cracked up to be by most of the world s climatologists [3]. While
it may be difficult to see climate change presently, there are many indicators of its existence with the

the ocean [3]. The acidity level is also noticeably higher. Since the start of fossil use levels in the
oceans have been 25 30% higher [6]. These factors also contribute to the rise of sea

For instance a shift in the values of the Malayali middle classes can be partially attributed to the
implementation of colonial legislation instigating the abolition of polygamous practices such as the
Marumakkathayam system of inheritance amongst Nayar communities, whilst increasing nationalist
sentiment contributed to the diminishing importance of unique matrilineal forms in Kerala in favour of
the patrilineal inheritance that prevailed as a middle class norm in the rest of India. (Arunima, 2003).
Note that I have made no distinction between Nayar castes and a Malayali middle class , necessitating
the clarification of two dimensions: reconciling class with the alternative hierarchical structure of
caste; and related to this how the concept of a middle class has changed over time. From this I will
discuss how shifting values in India have created an affirmatively dynamic middle class.

Why I Was A Psychiatry Inpatient Service At The Boston...
It hits you like a freight train, or at least it did for me. I was thirteen when I stopped looking forward
to things, and I swear it happened over night; like California in the summer, when everything seems
okay and then you blink and it is all up in flames. I was thirteen years old when I came to terms with
the fact that I no longer wanted to live.
Fast forward two years: Bader 5 is a psychiatry inpatient service at the Boston Children s Hospital and
it was where I was checked into late August 2014. Originally, I was going to the hospital for a checkup
on my headaches, but when my mother pointed out to the doctor what I had been struggling with
mentally, I was taken to the emergency room for suicide watch. I sat in the emergency room for over
two hours with Marcos, a tall man who spoke broken English, whose only job was to make sure I
would not strangle myself with the bed sheets. My mother was signing paper work, getting food and
calling my father for a majority of those two hours. By the time she came back, it looked like she had
aged ten years.
Another hour passed, my dad arrived. We all sat in the emergency room together, and Marcos took
post in the hallway. Eventually, a doctor showed up, along with a police officer, and my family and I
were led up to Bader 5. We met with Steve, the man who ran Bader 5 and he had eyes so blue they
looked white. My parents were given more paper work, stating that they signed me over to Bader 5
and if they wanted me to come home, they

Abstract
This paper is being submitted in details the effect that natural disaster has on the planet Earth.
Analyzing the impact of potential natural disasters on: geography, resources, politics, economics, and
disaster preparedness and how to monitor the future natural disasters.
Monitoring Our Home Planet Natural Disaster has a major impact on the inhabitants that live on the
planet Earth. A natural disaster is a major adverse event resulting from natural processes of the Earth;
examples include floods, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis, and other geologic processes (

Geostationary satellites are positioned at a much higher altitude. They orbit the Earth at the same
speed as the Earth rotates on its axis, in effect remaining stationary above the ground and viewing the
whole earth disk below (Lewis, 2009). The information gathered by these satellites help monitor the
natural disasters and provides data to help minimize the death and destruction that natural disaster
accumulate. Tsunamis just like earthquakes are sudden and hard to prepare for when the natural

dangerous, devastating, and deadly. A tsunami is a large ocean wave that is caused by sudden motion
on the ocean floor. This sudden motion could be an earthquake, a powerful volcanic eruption, or an
underwater landslide. Tsunamis travel across the open ocean at great speeds and build into large
deadly waves in the shallow water of a shoreline ( What causes a, 2005). Tsunamis are not uncommon

Analysis of Still Life With Peppermint Bottle by Paul Cezanne
Paul Cezanne is considered one of the greatest and most memorable artists of the Post Impressionist
period. His techniques were admired and greatly influential in the development of Cubism and many
other modern art movements. He employed several styles in his works, such as his still life
productions. In 1894 he produced a brilliant piece of work entitled Still Life with a Peppermint Bottle

It is meant to be explored in vision alone and tantalize the eye. The next object that is noticed in the
painting are the images of the flask and peppermint bottle. The peppermint bottle is drawn with an
elegant double curvature, which reappears in the simple rounding of the fruit. The darker shades
emitted from the bottle and flask creates a sense of intensity and warmth. The flask is compared to the
peppermint bottle as simpler, but yet illustrious. This object is depicted as having no use in human
purpose; its only purpose is merely to be contemplated by the observer. The elegant curves of the
peppermint bottle and the flask can be described as being simple but yet bold. They seem to stand out
in the picture and are the first to be noticed due to their great design. They seem to be superior over
the rest of the objects in the painting. The next thing noticed by the human eye is the elegant drapery
that is placed over the table. The drapery seems to have the greatest curves in the entire painting. It is
freely drawn but is still has the constricting folds and curves. However, even though it is freely drawn
the observer can see that it works in complete harmony with the other objects in the painting. All of
these objects work together to form the still life masterpiece that Cezanne had intended.
When we observe these objects together, we can see Cezanne s intention of the masterpiece. When we

Compare And Contrast Alka-Seltzer With Hydrochloric Acid
The purpose of this experiment was to mix Alka Seltzer with Hydrochloric acid in order to analyze
Sodium Bicarbonate as an active ingredient in the Alka Seltzer. The mixture will contain hydrochloric
acid to only see the composition of Sodium Bicarbonate in the tablet once it reacts. The amount that
reacted allowed us to determine how much of it is present in the tablet. The amount of sodium
bicarbonate will be measure by using the ideal gas law PV=nRT. The experiment will be conducted in
the lab, therefore we are going to use room temperature which ranges from 15 to 26 degrees celsius.
At room temperature pressure ranges from 12.8 to 25.0 millimeters mercury according to its
corresponding room temperature. In the ideal gas equation R is 0.08206latm/mol k which is a constant.
Once we have those values we can calculates the number of moles that reacted in the mixture by
solving for the missing value. With the number of moles we are able to find the mass in grams which
is what will potentially tell us the composition of Sodium Bicarbonate in a tablet of Alka Seltzer.
Results: There were three different runs in order to have comparable data and to increase the validity
of the experiment. The first run gave 39% of Sodium Bicarbonate. The second run gave 34% of
Sodium Bicarbonate while the third one gave 39%, which is the same as the first run. The average
percentage was 37% which is much lower than the manufacturer s percentage of 59%. The percent
error came out to be 37%.
Discussion: The manufacturer results shows that Alka Seltzer has 1.9 grams per tablet. In the
experiment the results are too small compared to the number that is given by the label. In the first run
only .0588 grams reacted to the acid. That suggest that the tablet only contains 0.588 grams of sodium
bicarbonate which is very different from the manufacturers. The second run gave an even smaller
number of gram. In terms of moles only .0007 reacted in the first and third run and only .0006 in the
second run. There are many factor that could had alter the amount of moles that reacted to the acid
which affected the result in showing that there is a smaller composition of sodium bicarbonate in the
tablet than that of the manufacturer s. The

Role Of The Executive Officer Of The Chief Officer
The role of business in society is multifaceted in that there is an obligation to its shareholders, its
clients and its employees. In the instance of Margin Call by J.C Chandor, a wide range of justifications
revealed by the upper management level of an investment firm evinces the core values of the firm.
Once it is revealed that there is a high probability of the firm being the devalued beyond market
capitalization, the firm and its division heads attempt to find a solution to the imminent crisis.
Although there is some dissent from Sam Rogers, Head of Sales and Trading, CEO Tuld promptly
decides to liquidate the firm s toxic assets onto the market. However, there is much internal tension
between the chief officers in that they individually represent different predicaments. In the end,
Margin Call illustrates conviction that the role of business is to engender a certain type of lifestyle for
the society through the executives justifications and interactions with others.
In the first scene of Margin Call, there is a massive unannounced layoff for about 80% of the trading
floor in the investment firm. Though Eric Dale has worked in risk management for many years, the
firm s decline in profits requires that it downsize in order to survive. Will, Head of Trading, tells the

Imperial Reform in Britian from 1815 to 1870 Essay
Imperial Reform in Britian from 1815 to 1870 The period 1815 to 1870 was characterized by radical
change in the character of the British Empire, to the extent that, by the end of the period, the empire
consisted of two distinct parts: one made up of dependent colonies, experiencing direct formal rule;
and the other made up of self governing settlement colonies. This development occurred as a result of
a series of social, political and economic reforms. In order to judge whether economic factors
dominated imperial reform during this period, an assessment of the causes and nature of reforms is
necessary. However, while imperial reform was multicausal, great weight can be given to the

In turn, the abolitionist movement, consisting of humanitarian reformers, church missionaries etc
exerted political pressure on government ministers, creating a climate in government circles which led
directly to the passing of the abolition acts. Therefore, the first major imperial reform of the 19th
century, the abolition of slavery, was primarily motivated by social and political factors, rather than
merely economic ones. Nevertheless, underlying economic factors, such as the cost of the slave
system in regions experiencing economic decline, as well as the economic advantages of
industrialisation which caused the emergence of a new middle class with differing views, may have
contributed to the change. Political reforms of the period focus mainly on the development of self
government within the colonies of settlement. The granting of self government was sparked by an
armed rebellion in Canada in 1837 following the failure of the British Governor to grant greater
democracy, and the resulting emergence of an oppressed minority of French settlers of Lower Canada.
The Canadian rebellion was a catalyst for political reforms, stemming from the 1839 Durham Report

Moral Panics And Media Panics
Moral Panics and Media Panics
A moral panic is a phenomenon that is examined and understood in an unbiased fashion. This type of
panic locates a folk devil, is shared, remains out of synch with the seriousness it evokes, and varies in
intensity over time (Goode and Ben Yehuda, 41). On the other hand, a media panic is a moral panic
about the effects of a communications medium of technology (Class lecture: January 27, 2016).
Overall, a moral panic is based upon the reaction of society from an event while a media panic is the
reaction of society from a type of technology. This paper looks to examine the similarities and
differences between surveillance in the government today and surveillance in the government during
the Cold War. It will address the effects these events have or had on society while examining specific
media panics that played a role in society s reactions to these historical events. By providing evidence
to prove how these panics affect society, I will examine why these moral and media panics exist and
the impact they have had on society as a whole.
A moral panic develops in a society when there is some type of threat looking to harm the society in
some way. The threat of a nuclear attack by the USSR and its possible plan to control society through
communism aided in the development of a moral panic during the Cold War era (Cold War History).

Essay On Natural Selection
In this lab, we were given the task of modeling the process of natural selection. Natural selection is
when an environment poses obstacles and chooses to favor a certain trait over another. We created
fake paper birds for this model, with straws and construction paper. This lab showed was both
accurate and helpful and not so accurate. One way this lab was accurate, was the correct showing of
mutations and random changes over generations in the birds. We rolled the dice and flipped a coin to
figure how the birds would be affected in the new generation. This was much like how life actually is.
Most of the time, things are completely random. Also any type of mutation in the bird, can change that
bird drastically. Sometimes, the mutation can be harmful and not help the bird in any way. This was an
accurate showing by the random roll of the dice and six different changes and the coin which
controlled whether front or back would be affected. It explained how offspring are rarely ever a clone
of the parent and have everything that the parent has. This can be shown as helpful and that trait
becomes much more suitable for the environment. These genes are the ones that get passed ... Show

The UAE has undergone an extraordinary metamorphosis in the few short years since the state was
established. Today Emiratis of all ages have access to all the benefits of a modern, developed society.
But there is also an awareness that the history, culture, values and traditions of past generations are the
foundations on which the modern state is built. Both government and people are determined that their
heritage will be preserved, in line with the late Sheikh Zayed s belief that a people that knows not its
past can have neither a present nor a future . Local museums and traditional heritage centres
throughout the emirates help to introduce this heritage to younger generations and to visitors to the
country. At the same time, the UAE, capitalising on its strategic geographical position between East
and West and its open, tolerant perspective, is establishing a wide range of new museums and creative
centres, many of which are universal in nature. In addition to encouraging creativity in the community,
these new museums help to bridge cultures and advance dialogue between civilisations. The UAE s

The Islamic Civilization And Islam
One cannot have an adequate and well versed discussion about Islamic civilization without first
defining two key terms: Civilization and Islam. Associate Professor at Washington University in St.
Louis, Ahmet Karamustafa, defines civilizations as, nothing more than a particular, even unique
combination of ideas and practice that groups of human actors who are the real agents of human
history affirm as their own and use to define and develop their own sense of presence and agency in
the world (Karamustafa 103). Thus, guided by this definition, we have an understanding of Islamic
Civilization as a religious movement guided by the mandates of God. Of course, anywhere where
there is human organization and interaction, there will be politics involved. Although there were some
political aspects in the community of the Believers under the leadership of the prophet, at the core of
this movement was the belief in his prophetic authority. I will argue that Islam, despite all the political
implications it has had throughout history, is ultimately rooted in religious belief, submission to God,
and living a pious life in accordance with God s commands for achieving eternal salvation.
Furthermore, In the course of this paper, I will give a brief introduction of Islamic civilization broken
up into four parts that are integral to understanding Islamic civilization: Politics and religion in the

Analysis Of An Epicurean Ideal By David Suits
n
An Epicurean Ideal (Suits 2008) is an article written by David Suits that deals with the discussion of
the understandings and teachers on Greek philosopher, Epicurus. The writer attempts to evaluate and
examine different aspects of Epicurean idealism. Epicurus goal was to build a society that would be
free from any social or personal anxiety and problems. Also known as ataraxia . This understanding
caused out of the importance on pleasure. Since the society involved women, a lot of individuals
believe that Epicurus were simply tranquil. However, this theory was contradicted by Suits. He states
that Epicurus established a different society free from any social limitation because he gave
importance on both physical and mental pleasure. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reflecting the theory that Gods are not part of our world and no harm or such cannot be caused to us
humans. Therefore, the fear of gods is unreasoning. It is also stated that the soul is made out atoms as
well. Meaning, when both the body and soul perishes, it clearly states that there is no such things as
afterlife where the soul shifts. there is not afterlife to be afraid of (Suits, 2008). After death, a person
cannot experience or feel any physical pain and mental turbulence. Death and afterlife shouldn t be
feared. As per him, Epicurus was of the assessment that a man should live straightforward, problem
free life. Extravagances and uncommon wants ought to be ended. The life must be calm and tranquil
and simpler to keep up. To increase such kind of life, an individual needs a good surrounding of
his/her companions. Friendship ought to be kept up generously and lure for wealth and influence
ought to be stayed away from. Suit states that Epicurus gave extreme encouragement to the
significance of friendship. This friendship prompts the hypothesis of social justice. To keep up peace
in the society, Epicurus proposed to construct a society where individuals live with insignificant
communication with one another. Extreme communication can cause meddling which result in hurting
an individual. Sensible and content individuals should live sternly by allowing one another to be alone

High Albedo Lab
Introduction
The cryosphere consists of all frozen water on earth. It is found in the high northern and southern
latitudes of the planet. The components of the cryosphere include the following: sea ice, glaciers, ice
sheets, ice shelves, snow cover, freshwater ice, and frozen groundwater. The cryosphere plays an
important role in cooling the planet. The cryosphere, being ice, has a high albedo. The accepted albedo
of ice in the cryosphere is .6 or 60%, meaning ice reflects 60% of incoming shortwave radiation. It is
important that the cryosphere has a high albedo because it helps the planet to absorb less coming
radiation, thus helping to cool the atmosphere. Surfaces such as the open ocean or asphalt roads have a
lower albedo; these surfaces absorb more incoming radiation and ... Show more content on

The results of the Measuring Albedo lab are given in table 1. Accepted albedo value were obtained
from _____. The ice had the highest albedo, meaning is reflected the most incoming light. The surface
with the lowest albedo was the soil. The table shows the experimental albedos to be lower than the
accepted albedos of each surface. It is very likely that the experimental albedos were lower than the
accepted albedo due to human error in measuring the incident illuminance and the reflected
illuminance. The values for incident illuminance were higher than expected. They were likely skewed
by the distance the light meter senor was held from the heat lamp. Further effort should be taken when
repeating this method so that the experimental albedo accurately represents the accepted albedo. This
can be accomplished by taking care to hold the light meter sensor at the appropriate distance from the
heat lamp. It would have been better to get multiple recordings for the incident illuminance rather than
one so the incident illuminance can more accurately represent the

Sigmund Freud Ideology
Sigmund Freud explored many new concepts in the human mind during his lifetime. He was the
scholar who discovered an immense new realm of the mind, the unconscious. He was the philosopher
who identified childhood experience, not racial destiny or family fate, as the vessel of character, and
he is the therapist who invented a specific form of treatment for mentally ill people, psychoanalysis.
This advanced the revolutionary notion that actual diagnosable diseases can be cured by a technology
that dates to the dawn of humanity: speaking. Sigmund Freud, writing more than 320 books, articles
and essays on psychotherapy in his lifetime, forever changed how society viewed mental illness and
the meaning of their dreams. However, controversy over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The emotions appropriate to the trauma are not expressed in any direct fashion, but do not simply
evaporate: They express themselves in behavior that in a weak, vague way offers a response to the
trauma. These symptoms are, in other words, meaningful. When the client can be made aware of the
meanings of his or her symptoms (through hypnosis, for example) then the unexpressed emotions are
released and so no longer need to express themselves as symptoms. With Charcot, many of Charcot s
patients suffered from a bizarre array of physical and emotional problems, symptoms of a puzzling
affliction doctors called hysteria. Freud became deeply interested in the plight of patients, typically
women, who suffered from hysteria. Through the study of hysteria, Charcot would introduce young
Freud to the mysteries he would spend the rest of his life trying to fathom the power of mental forces
hidden away from conscious awareness. Furthermore, Freud s father died four years prior to the
publication. Painful and disturbing, the long run effect of freeing Freud from his inhibitions impeded
his work (Parsons). The death of Freud s father most likely had a significant effect on his mind for the
topics stated in The Interpretation of Dreams included a great sense of loss of a parental figure,
relating to Freud s ideas of infantile sexuality To Freud, this

Humming Bird Benefits
Although people enjoy viewing wildlife and hunting animals for food and fur, conflicts arise because
wild animals kill livestock, cause vehicle collisions, and damage crops. On another note, relationships
with other organism can be more than just seeing the humming bird as an eye catching small bird. It is
a benefit for the long tubed flowers because the Buff Bellied hummingbird has its long beak and small
body to remove the nectar which allows the survival of the long tubed flower. Experiments indicated
that flowers having recurved spurs deposit significantly more pollen grains on hummingbird visitors
than flowers having perpendicular spurs, apparently as a result of greater contact between the
androecium of curve spurred flowers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Praying Mantis have their own benefits within a garden as do hummingbirds, but the praying mantis
does not carry a relationship with the hummingbirds. The praying mantis waits on flowers and on
feeders to capture them. Humming birds are not resistant to bees/wasp venom. They can out maneuver
a hummingbird with just one sting and can be fatal. Hawks prey on hummingbirds due to their size
advantage. Hummingbirds are typically 3 4 grams of size and can provide nutrients to large birds.
Although their size is not a great advantage they still stand tall to a hawk to defend their habitat and
offspring. Their strong manner against their huge odds is one of the reasons that hummingbirds arouse
our interest. Hummingbirds have a symbiotic relationship with plants. They have a mutualistic
relationship because they both benefit from it. The hummingbird gets nectar from flowers which also
helps the flower because it is being pollinated. Many flowers have a tube like shape which makes it
hard for bees to get nectar from them. This benefits the hummingbird because they will have a reliable
source of

Dr Seuss Influence On War
What do you think of when you hear the familliar name, Dr. Seuss? You are probably thinking of The
Cat in the Hat, Horton Hears a Who, and Yurtle the turtle. However, Dr. Seuss did more than writting
children s books. He had also used his talents to help fight in WWII by drawing political cartoons,
making annimated training films, and other political propiganda. Thanks to him, the public was aware
of WWII s affects and what they can do to help fight from home. Without knowing this, how could we
have had public support and, without public support, it would have been a much more difficult task to
win the war.
According to the article Dr. Seuss at a Glance, on March 2, 1904, Theodore Seuss Geisel was born in a
German American town. All ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dr. Suess knew he wanted to help out in the fight against Hitler, but he was older than the draft age
limit. The only way he knew he could help was by using his artistic skills. Dr. Seuss began to draw
political cartoons, annimated training films, and other political propaganda that was being used
outside of the liberal magazienes. In his political cartoons, he strongly encouraged points that he felt
would help win the war. For example, he encouraged the public to buy U.S war savings bonds and
stmaps, for the government to use both white and black races in the war work, and many more points
that he felt thte public needed to hear, if America was expected to win the war. By doing this, he put a
spirit into the general public that helped them through the rough time of WWII. Without his inspiring
art, the public may not have known what they could do to help the fight, without enlisting in the war
themselves.
As the website Seussville states, During WWII Dr. Seuss served in Frank Capra s unit... This was also
a major impact he had on the war. In this unit, Theodore was continuing to make political statments
and other artistic statments abou tthe war. However, in this unit, he was submitting them to the U.S

My heart dropped to the floor! I was taking in consideration that I was just praying that she didn t test
me on it and this is the first thing she tests me on. We weren t even on a hill, were on a regular street
and here I am trying to do something I have no clue on doing. The first thing that came to my head
was up,up and away a trick a former teammate told me. I creep up to the curb and I park turning my
wheel away. I pull off as if I was done, but then I think to myself once again like hey, why not try it
again ? I move up a bit and did another example of downhill parking.
I pull off and finish following her instructions hoping that I did the parking correctly. We go a couple
blocks away, a couple mainstreets and then proceeded back to the DMV. Pulling up to the DMV I m a
bit scared, but she looks at me and says let s go in and get your license . There you have it I just
passed my driver s test with a broken ankle and bootlegged parking.
It s a little past noon and now I m on my way back to school to finish my last couple of classes. It s

Strictly Ballroom Essay- Belonging
English essay:
People have the longing to belong and to be accepted by a group or community. A sense of Belonging
can emerge from the connections and acceptance we have with other people, communities and the
larger world. These ideas of belonging are represented in texts which explore aspects of belonging and
an individual s potential to challenge or improve a community group. The film Strictly Ballroom,
directed by Baz Lurhman, the film Looking for Alibrandi directed by Kate Woods and the exaggerated
true story of an African American youth s fight to belong in the song dance with the devil by immortal
technique all represent ideas of belonging formed by life experiences.

Self belief is shown through the realistic dancing of the Spanish community and Fran s family
compared to the exaggerated and unreal images of the ballroom community, dominated by flashy
costumes and insincerity. At the Toledo Milk Bar the earthy and sensual colours of reds and browns
allows us to feel the real spirit of dancing. When Rico, Fran s father challenges Scott to dance the Paso
doble, Scott is laughed at by the way he dances. What is so funny about the way I dance? Fran s
Family and the Spanish community soon teach Scott that the real value of dancing comes from the
heart and Fran s grandmother shows him where he needs to really feel the rhythm in his body.
When Scott is still contemplating who to dance with at the Pan Pacific s he is approached by his
father, Scott can I bend your ear for a tick? who tells him the true story of his past, and how much
regret he has in never dancing his own steps. This makes Scott finally step up, and as the Pan Pacific
competition starts Scott dressed as a bullfighter and Fran dressed in her red and black paso doble dress
come on the stage. Barry Fife enraged by this couple dancing stops the music and demands them to
leave the stage. However, in the crowd, Doug for the first time in his life stands up for something he
believes in, he starts clapping the rhythm for Scott and Fran to dance to. A real dancer must only listen
to the rhythm and not... be scared . Soon after, Yaya, Rico and the crowd all start

Aurora Shooting Response Paper
Susan Metzger Jun 29, 2013 Summary Response Suspect Bought Large Stockpile of Rounds Online
Rhetorical The article published in the New York Times July 22, 2012 by Jack Healy entitled Suspect
Bought Large Stockpile of Rounds online , addresses an absence of laws regulating the sale of
ammunition. Jack Healy is a rocky mountain correspondent for the New York Times, and has reported
on the war in Iraq from Baghdad. Healy s article elicits good emotional engagement with the reader,
but it is fundamentally lacking sound logical arguments and ethical credibility. Aurora shooting
suspect James Holmes purchased a 6,000 rounds of ammunition prior to the shooting in Aurora
Colorado. Holmes purchased bullet¬¬proof vests and a high ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The logos of the article is fundamentally flawed due to the lack of logically sound and accurate
conclusions. Finally the article loses its ethical integrity when the authors bias becomes apparent to
the reader. Healy s article contains bias for the regulation of ammunition sales, as well as confusing
terminology. The article contains contradictory and inaccurate facts, and quotes selected for emotional
impact rather than relevance and purpose. First I will address some of the logical contradictions in the
article. Healy said Unhindered by federal background checks or government oversight, the 24 year old
man... was able to build ... a 6,000 round arsenal legally and easily over the Internet, exploiting what
critics call a virtual absence of any laws regulating ammunition sales In this quote Healy leads the
reader to believe that there are no laws, and no regulation regarding ammunition sales. Later in the
article Healy admits there are laws restricting ammunition sales in Illinois, Massachusetts, and New
Jersey as well as cities like Los Angeles and Sacramento. Healy contradicts his earlier point by
highlighting the states that do have laws regarding the sales of ammunition. This contradiction leaves
the reader not knowing which conclusion is valid. The second flaw in the

Definition Of Professionalism And Professionalism Professionalism Chanda Hutton Baker College Flint PROFESSIONALISM Definition My definition of professionalism is a person that carries themselves in a respectful manner. The professional is educated, has a clean appearance, well spoken, and treats others with respect and integrity. When a person is not professional it reflects poorly on the company. I have experienced unprofessional behavior quite often. I have seen nurses, and other medical professionals, act unprofessional. I will share a story of a very unprofessional situation. This situation put me in a position where I had to make a moral and legal decision and take the appropriate action. Two nurse aids were bathing a man that was in a coma. He had a penal implant from having prostate cancer. The implant was a pump. While bathing him the girls pumped his penis up, took pictures and sent the pictures to my phone along with derogatory remarks. The girls thought this was funny. I did not. I thought it was extremely unprofessional, and degrading to that patient. The girls were my friends, so the decision I had to make was not easy. I went to my nurse manager and took the appropriate action and steps. The girls did lose their jobs. I did feel bad for them, but I felt worse for that man. I had to do what was right. Importance of Professional Behavior Professional behavior is important in the nursing profession because of the long road it took for nurses to be recognized as a profession and ... • 5. Analysis Of A Thousand Splendid Sunss Great authors use literary elements to develop novels. In A Thousand Splendid Suns, Mariam, born out of wedlock, lives in Afghanistan. Afghan society refers to children born out of wedlock as a harami , Nana, her mom, emphasizes this to Mariam constantly. Later on in the novel, Laila, Mariam s sister wife has a harami herself. Khaled Hosseini uses characterization and tone to compare and contrast the ways Nana and Laila cope with having a harami, showing that Laila overcomes the stereotype. Hosseini uses characterization of Mariam through Nana s upbringing to develop the subject of self doubt. Mariam, born out of wedlock, becomes shamed and targeted by her mother, Nana. Nana always told her that she was an illegitimate person who would never have legitimate claim to the things other people had, things such as love, family, home, and acceptance (4). Not knowing any better, Mariam believes that she does not deserve the same personal rights as everyone because of her social status, even though she cannot control that. Nana blamed Mariam for the embarrassment, guilt, and shame of having a harami, making Mariam feel at fault. Nana makes Mariam feel lonely, undeserving, and insecure, because of her status, which she did not choose. Always dealing with Nana s harsh words, it did not occur to young Mariam to ponder the unfairness of apologizing for the manner of her own birth (7). Nana s hurtful words guilted Mariam into taking the blame over things she did not cause or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Causes Of Poverty And Underdevelopment The causes of poverty and underdevelopment are found in both theories of Modernisation and Dependency. Both of the theories discover and explain their views regarding the modern world, existing relationships and differences between the Third World and developing countries. The theories both have similarities and differences in their approaches to poverty and undeveloped countries. Solutions are suggested by both theories, giving different strategies to improve the gaps or connections between the developed and underdeveloped countries and societies. Wehler (1975:11) explains the concept of Modernisation to be the development from traditional to modern societies. Historically modernisation is the process of change towards those types of social, economic, and political systems that have developed in Western Europe and North America (Eisenstadt,1966, as cited in Chandra Sharma, 2015, p. 210). The modernisation theory sees poverty and underdevelopment as a result of a traditional society system (Greig, et al., 2007). The typical characteristics of a traditional society are its stagnancy, unchanging status quo , dominance of spiritual values, unprogressive and not innovative nature, and its subsistence ways of living (Isbister, 2001). This theory believes that the rich developed countries are wealthy because they practice the accurate form of contemporary beliefs and values rather than following their traditional society practices. The theory implies that if people continue ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Disadvantages Of Patio Umbrellas One of the most common features of any outdoor décor is the use of patio umbrellas. We see them everywhere; from the simplest ice cream man to the most contemporary, sophisticated dining outlet in the heart of the city. There are a few reasons why patio umbrellas are so favoured over other types of outdoor furnishing: 1. They are affordable. Unlike floor tiling, wall paneling or paintings which can be extremely expensive, outdoor umbrellas are relatively cheap. Considering the fact that they can create that exact same effect we want for our outdoor spaces, it is no wonder they are usually a first option. 2. They are very accessible. It is also very easy to find these umbrellas. Almost any shop that does refurbishing will have some available for our perusal, or at least be able to direct us to one reliable source. 3. Patio umbrellas can be personalized or custom made at a relatively cheap cost. In a commercial setting, branding is everything. And having an outdoor umbrella on the premises means we have an extra vehicle for marketing our name. This can be done at a reasonable price quite easily, which reduces the stress of us having to carve our names into the furniture or pay artists an exorbitant price for graffiti branding on the floor tiles. 4. They are user friendly. There is no need for complicated manuals or help from any professional (except for some particular types of offset umbrellas) in the daily setting up and down of these umbrellas. The Jews of Sighet were of disproving failure to anticipate Nazi terrorism in reason of two factors: disbelief by doubt and ignorant fear within themselves and their community of Hitler s extermination strategy. In Night, the author introduces his life as a teenager and his relations with Moshe the Beadle, a shtibl who would joyfully about the Kabbalah and its mysterious revelations and guide him into studying such esoteric tradition, but then drone endlessly about his abhorrent experience of being imprisoned as a deportee. Unfortunately, no matter how much he spoke of it, his words became dust as they left his mouth and had blown in A calming, reassuring wind (Wiesel, 6). The people of Sighet bypassed Moshe s warning signal simply by not taking him seriously, and Wiesel verifies this expression in page 7, presuming how everyone refused to believe his tales and ...to listen, which led them in believing that that he wanted their pity...was imagining things... and had gone mad . This doubt provoked the inconvenience of Moshe s hopes to inform his people as a preliminary to an impending event. • 12. The Theory Of Sexual Orientation Chapter 9 looks at sexuality and how it is perceived around the world. It analyzes how each unique culture recognizes homosexuality, heterosexuality, and bisexuality as a whole. It uses this information to formulate facts, opinions, and ideas in regard to all three of these concepts. This chapter considers gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation. All three of these definitions have to do with how we classify ourselves, not how society classifies us. Thus, we should have the freedom to decide what makes us happy, we should not have to conform to societies beliefs. There are five different theories of sexual orientation that are examined and discussed in this chapter. I think it is important to consider each theory and understand why they were created. The first being the structural functionalist perspective focuses on having safe heterosexual relationships without cheating to ensure safe child rearing and a regular family dynamic for the child to grow up in (300). The second being the conflict perspective focuses on the power difference between the straight individuals and all the members of the LGBT community. The straight individuals are seen as more powerful because they are the norm meaning that are the dominant group. The LGBT community is the community with the least amount of power, especially in 1973 when being gay was considered a mental illness or mental disorder (301). Texts A, B and C are different conversations between Sue, Josh and Franki. Sue is a childminder and therefore has a familiar relationship with the children, Josh and Franki, who are siblings. In Text A and C, Sue holds a continual power throughout the conversations unlike in text B, where Josh holds the power. This continues a vein of the elder participant in the conversation holding power over the younger participant(s). Sue controls topic management, through the conversations she holds; she engages with the children by using interrogatives What are you going to do now? , What have you been up to, today? and How are you, Franki? This could help Sue encourage conversation between the children, in order to maintain a friendly relationship with them as a childminder, it is her duty to preserve a good bond and in this way, she also manages to get the children to do as she says. My Summer Camp It was the last day of my summer camp, the night before my Boy Scout troop would pack all their gear and leave the coast of the Puget Sound, and go back to the suburbia where most of the kids in the troop lived. The last day of summer camp, at least at Camp Parsons, was the Hullabaloo. The Hullabaloo was a great gathering of all the patrols, in a large grass covered area, bordering a beach and then the Puget Sound. The whole area was dotted with green trees, and was overlooked by a very large cabin like building, which acted as the meal room for all the troops at camp. The cabin like building was a dark brown, built on the outside with logs, but on the inside a sort of insulated faux log. The inside was very spacious and lined up along the walls were about 50 long tables for the various troops at camp. Even in this large room, there wasn t always enough space to fit the scouts from all the troops, so it was safe to say that my patrol had a lot of competition. All the patrols would compete for a trophy (a carved block of wood, painted yellow and with the purple letters CP stating: FIRST PLACE). Each troop usually has more than one patrol, each patrol being about 5 10 people, so my troop (of about 25 people) had two. There is an explosive growth in wearable computing devices over the past couple of years mostly due to technological advances in smart devices. Although most of these are self care monitoring devices the need for assisted living where a patient can be monitored continuously using these devices are emerging fast. In a typical tracking system, various vital biological signals, fall risks and changes in predetermined health conditions are collected via sensors and shared with medical professionals for intervention if necessary. Most popular applications of self care monitoring include daily activity monitoring, emergency and fall detection, and rehabilitation. I was thirteen when I stopped looking forward to things, and I swear it happened over night; like California in the summer, when everything seems okay and then you blink and it is all up in flames. I was thirteen years old when I came to terms with the fact that I no longer wanted to live. Fast forward two years: Bader 5 is a psychiatry inpatient service at the Boston Children s Hospital and it was where I was checked into late August 2014. Originally, I was going to the hospital for a checkup on my headaches, but when my mother pointed out to the doctor what I had been struggling with mentally, I was taken to the emergency room for suicide watch. I sat in the emergency room for over two hours with Marcos, a tall man who spoke broken English, whose only job was to make sure I would not strangle myself with the bed sheets. My mother was signing paper work, getting food and calling my father for a majority of those two hours. By the time she came back, it looked like she had aged ten years. Another hour passed, my dad arrived. We all sat in the emergency room together, and Marcos took post in the hallway. Eventually, a doctor showed up, along with a police officer, and my family and I were led up to Bader 5. We met with Steve, the man who ran Bader 5 and he had eyes so blue they looked white. My parents were given more paper work, stating that they signed me over to Bader 5 and if they wanted me to come home, they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The darker shades emitted from the bottle and flask creates a sense of intensity and warmth. The flask is compared to the peppermint bottle as simpler, but yet illustrious. This object is depicted as having no use in human purpose; its only purpose is merely to be contemplated by the observer. Compare And Contrast Alka-Seltzer With Hydrochloric Acid The purpose of this experiment was to mix Alka Seltzer with Hydrochloric acid in order to analyze Sodium Bicarbonate as an active ingredient in the Alka Seltzer. The mixture will contain hydrochloric acid to only see the composition of Sodium Bicarbonate in the tablet once it reacts. The amount that reacted allowed us to determine how much of it is present in the tablet. The amount of sodium bicarbonate will be measure by using the ideal gas law PV=nRT. The experiment will be conducted in the lab, therefore we are going to use room temperature which ranges from 15 to 26 degrees celsius. At room temperature pressure ranges from 12.8 to 25.0 millimeters mercury according to its corresponding room temperature. In the ideal gas equation R is 0.08206latm/mol k which is a constant. Once we have those values we can calculates the number of moles that reacted in the mixture by solving for the missing value. With the number of moles we are able to find the mass in grams which is what will potentially tell us the composition of Sodium Bicarbonate in a tablet of Alka Seltzer. Results: There were three different runs in order to have comparable data and to increase the validity of the experiment. The first run gave 39% of Sodium Bicarbonate. The second run gave 34% of Sodium Bicarbonate while the third one gave 39%, which is the same as the first run. The average percentage was 37% which is much lower than the manufacturer s percentage of 59%. The percent error came out to be 37%. Discussion: The manufacturer results shows that Alka Seltzer has 1.9 grams per tablet. In the experiment the results are too small compared to the number that is given by the label. In the first run only .0588 grams reacted to the acid. That suggest that the tablet only contains 0.588 grams of sodium bicarbonate which is very different from the manufacturers. The second run gave an even smaller number of gram. In terms of moles only .0007 reacted in the first and third run and only .0006 in the second run. There are many factor that could had alter the amount of moles that reacted to the acid which affected the result in showing that there is a smaller composition of sodium bicarbonate in the tablet than that of the manufacturer s. On the other hand, a media panic is a moral panic about the effects of a communications medium of technology (Class lecture: January 27, 2016). We rolled the dice and flipped a coin to figure how the birds would be affected in the new generation. This was much like how life actually is. Most of the time, things are completely random. Also any type of mutation in the bird, can change that bird drastically. Sometimes, the mutation can be harmful and not help the bird in any way. This was an accurate showing by the random roll of the dice and six different changes and the coin which controlled whether front or back would be affected. Thus, guided by this definition, we have an understanding of Islamic Civilization as a religious movement guided by the mandates of God. Although there were some political aspects in the community of the Believers under the leadership of the prophet, at the core of this movement was the belief in his prophetic authority. It is very likely that the experimental albedos were lower than the accepted albedo due to human error in measuring the incident illuminance and the reflected illuminance. This can be accomplished by taking care to hold the light meter sensor at the appropriate distance from the heat lamp. It would have been better to get multiple recordings for the incident illuminance rather than one so the incident illuminance can more accurately represent the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Sigmund Freud Ideology Sigmund Freud explored many new concepts in the human mind during his lifetime. He was the scholar who discovered an immense new realm of the mind, the unconscious. He was the philosopher who identified childhood experience, not racial destiny or family fate, as the vessel of character, and he is the therapist who invented a specific form of treatment for mentally ill people, psychoanalysis. This advanced the revolutionary notion that actual diagnosable diseases can be cured by a technology that dates to the dawn of humanity: speaking. Sigmund Freud, writing more than 320 books, articles and essays on psychotherapy in his lifetime, forever changed how society viewed mental illness and the meaning of their dreams. However, controversy over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The emotions appropriate to the trauma are not expressed in any direct fashion, but do not simply evaporate: They express themselves in behavior that in a weak, vague way offers a response to the trauma. These symptoms are, in other words, meaningful. When the client can be made aware of the meanings of his or her symptoms (through hypnosis, for example) then the unexpressed emotions are released and so no longer need to express themselves as symptoms. With Charcot, many of Charcot s patients suffered from a bizarre array of physical and emotional problems, symptoms of a puzzling affliction doctors called hysteria. Freud became deeply interested in the plight of patients, typically women, who suffered from hysteria. Through the study of hysteria, Charcot would introduce young Freud to the mysteries he would spend the rest of his life trying to fathom the power of mental forces hidden away from conscious awareness. Furthermore, Freud s father died four years prior to the publication. Painful and disturbing, the long run effect of freeing Freud from his inhibitions impeded his work (Parsons). The death of Freud s father most likely had a significant effect on his mind for the topics stated in The Interpretation of Dreams included a great sense of loss of a parental figure, relating to Freud s ideas of infantile sexuality To Freud, this ... Humming Bird Benefits Although people enjoy viewing wildlife and hunting animals for food and fur, conflicts arise because wild animals kill livestock, cause vehicle collisions, and damage crops. On another note, relationships with other organism can be more than just seeing the humming bird as an eye catching small bird. It is a benefit for the long tubed flowers because the Buff Bellied hummingbird has its long beak and small body to remove the nectar which allows the survival of the long tubed flower. Experiments indicated that flowers having recurved spurs deposit significantly more pollen grains on hummingbird visitors than flowers having perpendicular spurs, apparently as a result of greater contact between the androecium of curve spurred flowers ... The praying mantis waits on flowers and on feeders to capture them. Humming birds are not resistant to bees/wasp venom. They can out maneuver a hummingbird with just one sting and can be fatal. Hawks prey on hummingbirds due to their size advantage. Hummingbirds are typically 3 4 grams of size and can provide nutrients to large birds. Although their size is not a great advantage they still stand tall to a hawk to defend their habitat and offspring. Their strong manner against their huge odds is one of the reasons that hummingbirds arouse our interest. Hummingbirds have a symbiotic relationship with plants. They have a mutualistic relationship because they both benefit from it. The hummingbird gets nectar from flowers which also helps the flower because it is being pollinated. Many flowers have a tube like shape which makes it hard for bees to get nectar from them. This benefits the hummingbird because they will have a reliable source of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A sense of Belonging can emerge from the connections and acceptance we have with other people, communities and the larger world. These ideas of belonging are represented in texts which explore aspects of belonging and an individual s potential to challenge or improve a community group. The film Strictly Ballroom, directed by Baz Lurhman, the film Looking for Alibrandi directed by Kate Woods and the exaggerated true story of an African American youth s fight to belong in the song dance with the devil by immortal technique all represent ideas of belonging formed by life experiences. When Rico, Fran s father challenges Scott to dance the Paso doble, Scott is laughed at by the way he dances. What is so funny about the way I dance? Jack Healy is a rocky mountain correspondent for the New York Times, and has reported on the war in Iraq from Baghdad. Finally the article loses its ethical integrity when the authors bias becomes apparent to the reader. Healy s article contains bias for the regulation of ammunition sales, as well as confusing terminology. The article contains contradictory and inaccurate facts, and quotes selected for emotional impact rather than relevance and purpose. First I will address some of the logical contradictions in the article. Healy said Unhindered by federal background checks or government oversight, the 24 year old man... was able to build ... a 6,000 round arsenal legally and easily over the Internet, exploiting what critics call a virtual absence of any laws regulating ammunition sales In this quote Healy leads the reader to believe that there are no laws, and no regulation regarding ammunition sales. Later in the article Healy admits there are laws restricting ammunition sales in Illinois, Massachusetts, and New Jersey as well as cities like Los Angeles and Sacramento. Healy contradicts his earlier point by highlighting the states that do have laws regarding the sales of ammunition. This contradiction leaves the reader not knowing which conclusion is valid.
