Plato s Republic and Aristotle s Politics both accredit nature to the teleological functions of men,
women, and children. Nevertheless, each philosopher defines family differently to support their
main goals of finding the right type of society. While Plato does not conform to the traditional
definition of a family with a husband, wife, and children and instead defines the role of men and
women separately, Aristotleuses the family as a microcosm of political society, in the hopes of
showing readers how to create a just society for the former and a virtuous one for the latter.
Plato describes the Kallipolis the ideal city for the ancient Greeks in his Republic. The
Kallipolis prides itself on abiding by the truth of justice, which Plato defines as a citizen doing

On 05/05/2018 at approximately 2121 hours the Merced City fire department responded to a
residential structure fire at 456 Brimmer Road, Merced, CA 95341. Fire department personnel

of attempting to control the fire, firefighters were able to see grow lights and marijuana in the

migrant living in Paris, and her brother MadickГ© who lives in Niodior, Senegal. MadickГ© wants
to migrate to France to manifest his dream of becoming a football star, but Salie spends the novel
convincing him that this is not a good idea. The harsh realities that MadickГ© fails to see are
illustrated through the stories of the narrator, Salie, as well as NdГ©tare, a Marxist schoolteacher
who was exiled to Niordior, and Moussa, a football player who set out on his dream to become a
football star but who s dream falls apart. In The Belly of the Atlantic, author Fatou Diome uses the
stories of Senegalese migrants to effectively illustrate complex factors that comprise diaspora.
Diome does this by and demonstrating cultural alienation, portraying the contradicting emotions
experienced by migrants, and creating a realistic image of the west.
First, Diome focuses on the theme of diaspora by exploring the issue of cultural alienation shown
through the confusion of identity felt by the narrator, Salie. Marginalized in Paris and Niordor,
Salie has lost her cultural identity. She says, I go home as a tourist in my own country, for I have
become the other for the people I continue to call my family. (116) By leaving her homeland,
Salie has lost her sense of belonging within her community and is now seen as an outsider.
However, the same is found in Paris as Salie finds herself a marginalized outcast. She explains, I

There are four castes in the caste system with the fifth caste being outside the system. The four
castes in the system are Brahmin, or priests, Kshatriya, or warriors and rulers, Vaishya, or
merchants and farmers, and Shudra, or manual labors. The fifth caste that falls outside of the
system are the Dalits, or the untouchables. These castes determine how people should live their
lives, the responsibilities they should fulfill, and the people with which they are allowed to interact.

Toms Shoes
Theme Chart Analysis
Using the Grounds Theory approach our group determined and analyzed the common themes on
social media surrounding the Toms Shoes brand. We created a Theme chart and a sub theme chart
from the largest theme. These charts can be seen below. The top three themes were 1) Social
Justice, which was mainly comprised of soundbites focused on the Toms One For One motto and
their positive impact on those less fortunate 2) Style, which was largely focused on the look of the
shoes and 3) what we named Purchase/ want, this category was comprised of soundbites in which
people were talking about a purchase they had just made or stating that they really wanted to

Then we set the custom date range from April 10th, 2012 to June 15th, 2012. There were 621
mentions. People mentioned One Day Without Shoes mostly on the event date and then it began
to decrease and stopped within a week. There were 88% positive and 12% negative comments.
Some people thought it was nasty and gross to go without shoes in crowded or public areas, but
the majority thought that it supported a good cause and were willing as well as excited to join the
campaign. Many people shared their good experience of being barefoot on that day, which is what
we expected. However, similar to the analysis of the pre event date, the number of mentions quite
still pretty small. Most of the stream came from twitter.
We recommend Toms improve their campaign. Not entirely change the campaign but make a
minor change in order to make it more exciting and so that it is not exactly the same every year.
We think that this will help boost participation and therefore awareness of the brands mission.
One way Toms could accomplish this is by arranging a video competition, which would ask
people to make their own video doing their daily activities barefoot. They would then be asked to
post the videos on Toms Facebook. Whomevers video got the most likes would win a reward or
prize. Perhaps even a trip to one of the countries where Toms gives there shoes away so that the
dedicated customer could help deliver the shoes and experience first hand how impactful
