The Russian Revolution And World War I
The Russian Revolution and World War I
Samantha Jones
Period 3
19 May 2017
The Russian Revolution, also known as the Bolshevik Revolution, took place in the year 1917.
This revolution was the result of many things, though it majorly began as a revolt by the peasant
and working classes against the current czar, Nicholas II, and the Russian government. It was when
the final czar and his family were killed. This revolution is what led Lenin and the Bolsheviks into
power. It was a major contribution to the spread of communism and ultimately in creating the
communist country of the Soviet Union. Despite all of the effects the revolution had on Russia, how
the country was run, and who controlled the government, it did not ... Show more content on

Soon, they were joined by military officials and soldiers who refused to shoot the crowds. The czar
tried replacing officials in the government, believing that not only would the government approve
more of these officials, but that they would be more effective in handling these issues. This ended
up failing as the new officials were objectively worse than the old ones. In the end these attempts
led to extreme unrest in Russia, making it very easy for people such as Lenin and the Bolsheviks to
come and start the ultimate revolution and take down the current monarchical government. The war
brought with it many economic and militaristic issues that ultimately led to the Bolshevik
Revolution.
The military revolts were a major part of the Russian Revolution, making it very difficult for
battles to be won on the Russian front. This meant they made no major moves either beneficial
or detrimental to either side of the war. Much of this is to the fault of Czar Nicholas II, as,
despite having no prior military experience, he decided to lead the military effort. As mentioned
previously, an estimated fifteen and a half million men were drafted from peasant and working
class areas. This led to many of them being untrained. When they were sent to war, many had to
wait months in barracks just to be trained. Many were trained with broomsticks due to lack of
proper weapons and training tools. The lack of guns and other weapons also

Essay On Should Canada And The United States Have A Mixed...
Should Canada and the United States have a common economic system with little government
involvement? Canada and the US should not have a common economic system with little
government involvement. Having a mixed economy is better in many ways. In a mixed
economy, not only do you get all the benefits of a market economy, you also get a couple of
other benefits. In a mixed economy, there are public services and programs provided, a good
mix of competition and cooperation, and the government can control and regulate the means of
production. In a mixed economy, the government can intercede in the places of need. This can
help reduce issues like unemployment, poverty, and can help with making sure everybody is
getting the care and programs that they need. In a mixed economy, we are provided with public
schooling, Welfare programs, free health care, employment insurance, pension, child tax credit
and we are even fortunate enough to be provided with small things such as recycle and garbage
pick up. Having things like public schooling makes sure that children get the education they need
in a safe and enjoyable environment, which will have allowed them to have a positive learning
experience and hopefully one day be able to contribute to our economy as well. With that being
said, homeless people are also provided with welfare programs, more job opportunities and shelters
that they can go to which will help provide them with a brighter future. All of theses things make a
huge impact on our... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Competition can be good in small quantities, but too much competition can lead to a greedy,
materialistic society where people don t necessarily get along. In a mixed economy, we still have
competition that helps make businesses successful and a variety of different kinds of products.
But, we will also have cooperation so that citizens of our country can work together and make a

Foundations of Political Thought Essays
Aristotle and Socrates and Plato s beliefs have similarities mainly evident in their denouncement
of democracy for the state. The views of Socrates expressed and written by his pupil Plato are
vastly philosophical in nature and he promotes the idea of questioning life to achieve insight. The
philosophers who possess the absolute truth are the best equipped to rule society according to Plato
and his Allegory of the Cave. Conversely, Aristotletakes a more political scienceapproach of
discussing and analyzing various constitutions to determine the best form of government, where the
rational beings in a society are the natural rulers. Aristotle promotes the idea of rule based on law
rather than simple superiority. The differences in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Politics, 83)
Through this view, Aristotle expresses his distrust of a total democracy that is parallel to the ideas
of his mentors. Plato attacks democracy and describes the disbursement of political freedom to the
masses as an intoxication of wine, claiming that a democratic city gets drunk on too much unmixed
freedom (The Republic, 220). Plato details the filtration of this drunkenness from society
disobeying rulers trickling down to the son disrespecting the father and eventually equal rights in
relations between the sexes (The Republic, 221). Plato and Aristotle share this skepticism of
democracy.
The limitation of freedom, liberty, and equality not only with regards to mistrust of democracy
but also in terms of denial of citizenship and justification of slavery are commonalities in the
teachings of Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. Plato accepts slavery throughout The Republic,
because he often deems whole groups of people unworthy of freedom. Aristotle s justifies slavery
through the characteristic of rationality; he claims that there is a condition of natural slavery
where when one being is rational and the other is not, there is a natural master slave relationship
(Politics, 2). For if something is capable of rational foresight, it is a natural ruler and master,
whereas whatever can use its body to labor is ruled and is a natural slave

Literacy Is The Way We Identify With And Comprehend The World
Literacy, in my eyes, is the way we identify with and comprehend the world and the various works
of literary value. From the beginning of my existence, I believe my literacy has compounded upon
itself to bring me to my present state. I will measure my different literacy stages in parallel with the
type of schooling I went through (i.e. elementary, middle, and high school). As my literary power
grew, the significance at which it held to me personally, also rose. Therefore, I will be
measuring the direct relationship between the significance and power of my personal literacy.
Within the time frame of my elementary school years, I was able to develop the basic
foundation for a long lasting literacy skill. Directing the attention towards reading, I can trace
those roots back to the days of early computer games. For example, when I was a wee lad, I did
not have a computer at my house, so I went to my grandma s house and used her computer.
While on the computer I discovered a little game by the name of Putt Putt. The game involved
the following of Putt Putt, a tiny purple car, and his crusade to save those who are in troublesome
situations such as losing their shovel. The experience initiated the way I read as it engaged me in
a fun and interesting way to understand a story while also learning key words and effectively
creating a comprehension. The little snippets of plot allowed me to read along with the narrator, as
well as providing some sections where critical thinking

The Downfalls Of Colonial Women In Colonial America
Some women fear the fire, some women simply become it. R.H. Sin. During Colonial America,
women weren t as valued as in current day. In Colonial times, women worked around the house,
didn t have legals rights, some were wealthy and others were slaves and others lived in the city.
As young girls, most women learned how to work around the house, which they most likely
learned from their mother. Few women throughout the colonies had a proper education, as some
couldn t even read or write. But, because women worked in their household, these skills were not
necessary. Due to the amount of tasks that needed to be accomplished, women worked very hard.
Some of their chores included sewing clothes, cooking, baking, making sure the house is kept clean
and the list goes on.
One of the many downfalls of being a colonial women is not having any legal rights. Women in
these times didn t have the right to vote, nor the right to hold public office. As a married women,
whatever belongs to you now belongs your husband. Also, as a married woman your identity was all
in your husband,so you were basically owned by him. On the other hand, as an unmarried woman
or a widow you gained more rights. Though, if you are unmarried you have to make a living for
yourself and you can t lean on your husband for support. You were allowed to own your own
land, which was a big step up from being property of your husband. Also, women were allowed to
make wills, sell property and sign contracts. After the

Freud and Rapunzel
In the fairy tale Rapunzel , the dreamer, Rapunzel, successfully passes through all the Freudian
psychosexual stages of development. Symbolism helps to illustrate the dreamer s movement
through the five stages. The Witch portrays the super ego figure in Rapunzel . Rapunzel s
mother plays the Id figure. The events of Rapunzel s life lead the reader to identify the dream as
more of a nightmare. Her father agrees to give Rapunzel to a witch, who then locks Rapunzel in a
tall tower; only rescued by a passing prince. Yonic and phallic imagery help identify the dreamer s
current stage of psychosexual development. Although delayed by the witch, the dreamer Rapunzel
eventually passes through all stages of psychosexual development. The Dreamer... Show more

His act of agreement transitions the dreamer to the anal stage. The witch takes the baby as part of
the agreement, naming her Rapunzel, another word for rampion, symbolizing another oral image.
When Rapunzel turns twelve, the witch locks her in a tower to hide her beauty from the world.
Although the tower represents phallic image, it also symbolizes how the dreamer becomes anal
retentive. The tower had neither stairs nor doors, only high up at the very top a small window ;
the witch tries to keep Rapunzel from the outside world, in theory, keeping her in (1). During the
anal stage, a normal child learns to control ones bodily functions. Thus, Rapunzel becomes
dependent on the witch. As the story continues, a prince happens upon the tower and learns that
the entrance to Rapunzel s tower is by her, long blonde hair. So the next day he comes to the
tower, and repeats the witch s words Let down your golden hair and the Prince climbs up (2). At
first, the prince scares Rapunzel but he then spoke to her so kindly and that his heart had been so
touched by her singing (2). Rapunzel undergoes sexual identification through the prince, another
indication of the phallic stage. The prince then offers to help Rapunzel leave the tower and to marry
him (2). Rapunzel agrees to the prince s plan, and in effect, she attempts to leave the anal stage. But
when her escape is eminent she slips in revealing that she communicates with the prince. After her
failed attempt to

Cubism Art
Structural Frame A.Investigate the two main phases of cubism: Analytical and Synthetic After
1909, Picasso and Braque began a more systematic study of structure, which we know as Analytical
Cubism . In this period, they removed bright colors from their compositions, favouring
monochromatic earth tones so that they could focus on the structure. The paintings of this period
look as if they have deconstructed objects and rearranged them on the canvas. One goal of this is to
depict different viewpoints all at once. After the artists had grown tired of the Analytical period,
they began to develop what is known as the Synthetic period. Picasso and Braque continue to
introduce new and controversial changes with the introduction of collaged... Show more content on

Within his complexity came out a brilliant artist that was widely considered the most influential
painter of the 20th century. Pollock began to study painting in 1929 at the Art Students League,
in New York, under the Regionalist painter Thomas Hart Benton. During the 1930s he was being
influenced also by the Mexican muralist painters and by certain aspects of Surrealism. By the
mid 1940s he was painting in a completely abstract manner, and the `drip and splash style for
which he is best known emerged with some abruptness in 1947. Instead of using the traditional
easel he moved his canvas to the floor and poured and dripped his paint from a can; instead of
using brushes he manipulated it with `sticks, trowels or knives sometimes he would use a mixture
of `sand, broken glass or other foreign matter . This manner of Action painting was common with
Surrealist theories of automatism. Clement Greenberg emerged on the American art scene at a
time when it was still relatively small and critics belonged to the insular world of the artists
themselves. Among them was an obscure painter named Jackson Pollock, who was earning very
little money. Clement Greenberg, was the art critic who propelled the career of Jackson Pollock
and helped to establish Abstract Expressionism as a major artistic movement Greenberg began to
praise on Pollock s work, though very few people noticed at

Argon is a colorless, tasteless, odorless, and nontoxic gas since it is a noble gas and a gas has all
those qualities. Argon makes up about 1 percent or 0.934 percent of the volume of the Earth s
atmosphere and is the 3rd most created element in the Earth s atmosphere. Argon has 3 energy
levels as in which the first energy level contains 2 electrons, the second energy level holds up to
8 electrons, and last but not least the third level has 8 electrons, leading to Argon having 8
valence electrons as well. Argon is used in electric light bulbs and in fluorescent tubes and in
filling photo tubes, glow tubes and so much more all of which produce some sort of light. Argon
can be used as an inert gas shield for cutting and as blanket for the production of titanium and other
reactive element and as a protective atmosphere for growing silicon and germanium

Skin Fold Method Essay
Potential sources of measurement error can occur while using the skin fold method if the person
that is administrating the test has not had significant amount of practice. Taking skin fold
measurements requires specific training. Without training, it is complicated to obtain consistent
accurate skin fold measurements. To reduce errorwhile using the skin fold method, it is important
to have a good quality skin fold caliper. Good quality calipers should deliver a specific amount of
force and this can be assured by the manufacturer of the caliper. he easiest skin fold site to
measure was the abdominal area. Typically, most people have a greater amount of fat in this area,
therefore, it was easier to grab and measure. The thigh is the most difficult... Show more content on

Certain areas of measurements was harder to take than other areas because of it s angle. It was
harder to take skin fold measurements on a participant who did not have much fat on their body.
It was also difficult to take measurements when the participant was in multiple layers of clothes.
The potential sources of error when measuring circumferences and skeletal diameters can occur if
the administrator does not properly measure the specific areas. Measuring too high or too low of a
certain area can skew accuracy. It is also important for the administrator to remember to stand on
the right side of the participant. Not accurately reading the measuring tape can result in error. For
example, reading inches instead of centimeters would cause error. For my skin fold measurements,
body fat percentage was between twenty five and thirty five percent. For BIA, my body fat
percentage for sitting was twenty two percent, standing with straight arms was twenty one percent,
and standing with bent arms at seventeen percent. The measurements may have been different since
the SKF was taken by a person and BIA through a machine. Although the results were not

Regulator 5. Indicator
The ordinary low power E I core transformer is used to get required voltage. It is basically step
down transformer, which reduce the voltage from mains supply depending upon the output voltage.
The rectifier sections convert AC into DC. The rectifier is designed using four 1N 4007 diode. It
is a bridge type rectifier, which give full cycle conduction output. The capacitor based filter
section smooth the rippled DC and make it as pure DC. The smoothing level is increased by
increasing filter capacitor value. The regulator block is designed using 78 XX series.
The regulator is selected to get constant voltage at output side. We can give input voltage up to 30V.
The LED indicates circuit is on live. This circuit arrangement gives constant voltage output.
Power Supply Design Concept:
Transformer Selection:
Voltage Rating = DC output voltage +5V Current Rating = required current +1/2 required current.
Type: Ordinary Transformer = Half wave Bridge rectifier
Control Tape Transformer = Full wave rectifier.
Example:

natural resources. One of such activities is mining which is an important economic activity with the
potential of contributing to the socio economic development of an area.
Although in South Africa, it is on a downward trend from its peak some decades ago (from 21%

20th Century American Inventors
The beginning of the 20th century was marked by the increase in American inventors and
entrepreneurs of vehicles looking to have their products dominate the world. Famous
manufacturers of this era include Henry Ford (founder of Ford Motor Company), William Boeing
(founder of The Boeing Company), William C. Durant (founder of General Motors), and George
M. Hendee (founder of Indian MotorcycleManufacturing), just to name a few. The designs
produced under the aforementioned manufacturers/inventors would prove to be true innovations,
paving the way for technology for decades to come and providing the basic designs on which
modern vehicles are built on. The same can be said about William S. Harley, the co founder and first

By 1920, the company was producing almost 30,000 bikes annually and was the world s largest
motorcycle manufacturer, taking the title away from Indian Motorcycle. However, a combination
of a mild economic depression and Henry Ford s Model T began eating away at Harley Davidson s
profits, and the motorcycle company even had to reject a potential business partnership with
Ford Motor Company to protect themselves ( William S. Harley, Arthur ). The partnership
involved manufacturing Harley Davidson bikes with a sidecar to be used to deliver mail, albeit
under the Ford name. Harley Davidson rejected this deal, but later used the idea to sell their own
bikes to the Postal Service (Harley and the Davidsons). In 1914, the U.S Postal Service was
using 4,800 Harley Davidson motorcycles to deliver mail. To save their company, Harley
designed motorcycles to be used by law enforcement across the United States. By the mid 1920s,
roughly 3,000 law enforcement personnel would be riding a Harley Davidson, a testament to
William Harley s engineering genius. In addition, Harley would design bikes with larger engines
and brakes which helped boost sales for a short while before the Great Depression came. To
counter the resulting plummet in sales, Harley gave the bikes a facelift, designing new bikes with
more appealing fuel tanks and adding both stylized eagle designs and the company logo on the
bikes to increase appeal. Around this time, bikes were also designed with different color patterns (

Francis published a number of reports between 2010 to 2013 which revealed failings by mid
staffs in providing basic care; from provision of food, drink, pain relief, wash facilities to
unhygienic wards and toilets. The francis report also estimated that between January 2005 and
march 2009, approximately 400 1200 deaths occurred as a result of poor care.
The inquiry laid blame on poor staffing, lack of compassion, poor management. Francis also noted
a lack of concern when issues had been raised stating Staff who spoke out felt ignored and there is
strong evidence that many were deterred from doing so through fear and bullying . Again other
agencies were slow to react to warning signs that things were not right at Mid staffs.
One of the recommendations that emerged from the francis report was the expectation upon all

them must be honest, open and truthful in all their dealings with patients and the public, and
organisational and personal interests must never be allowed to outweigh the duty to be honest,

Poor staffing levels lack of training at all levels
Organisational cultures, that turn a blind eye to poor practices
Lack of communication between management boards and staff on the frontline

Spatiotemporal Continuity In The Case Of The Prince And...
Leibniz, Spatiotemporal Continuity and the Case of the Prince and the Cobbler
Leibniz uses the concept of spatiotemporal continuity to argue that if a person is the same, they
will be numerically identical, and have the same body as before. It is the only way to count
people as people, because people can change their minds, but not their bodies, as it is impossible to
track the direction of a person s mind. In the example of the Prince and the Cobbler, the Prince and
the Cobbler switch bodies, but that does not mean that the Prince is any less worthy of being a
Prince, and the Cobbler is still a Cobbler by the definition of spatiotemporal continuity.

The Cinematic Interpretations of The Lord of the Flies by William Golding
The two cinematic versions of William Golding s Lord of the Flies are very different. They still
both deal dramatically with the basic theme, of a group of boys who have come from a strict
and ordered background to becoming like savages, hunting, and killing like blood thirsty animals.
The book deals with issues which relate to the Cold War between the United States of America
and Russia which is better reflected in the Brook version rather than the Harry Hook version. I
generally think this is because at the time when the Brook version was made, the world was under
nuclear threat which made it easier for people to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most basic and apparent themes is that society holds everyone together, and without
these conditions, our ideals, values and the basics of right and wrong are lost. Without humanity s
rigid rules, anarchy and savagery can come to light. Brook and Hook are also showing as the book
does that morals come directly from our surroundings, and if there is no civilisation around us, we
will then lose these values.
I personally as a young viewer see that Hook s version is more exciting to an audience because it
can be viewed with more technical advances to the film. Also in the Hook version it is easy to see
another theme which is not made that obvious in the Brook version. The fear of the unknown (in
this case the beast is unknown and is put into the boy s heads by their imaginations) can be a
powerful force, which can turn people to either insight or hysteria. The boys end up killing Simon
because the happenings which have occurred have lead them to believe that there is a beast on the
island with them, when in fact it is just the pilot. However the black and white version does have
some advantages which the colour version does not have. These include benefits such as the story,
which is virtually the same as the book so you get the same idea that the book gives you. An
additional advantage of the Brook cinematic

Wolfgang Gottlieb Mozart s Life Essay
Joannes Chrisostomus Wolfgang Gottlieb Mozart was born January 27, 1756 in his family s
third floor apartment at 9 Getreidegasse, to Leopold and Anna Maria Pertl Mozart in the city of
Salzburg, which is now Austria. At the time, Salzburg was part of the Holy Roman Empire.
Mozart was baptized the day after his birth, January 28, 1756 at St. Rupert s Cathedral. Mozart had
six siblings and the only sibling who survived after birth was his older sister, Maria Anna, who had
the nickname Nannerl.
Wolfgang was his grandfather s name. Gottlieb, his godfather s surname, was later translated into
Amadeus. Mozart confirmed that he would be called Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
His father, Leopold Mozart was a German who was a violinist at the prince archbishop s court,
as well as a musician, conductor, composer, and teacher. In the year of Wolfgang s birth he
published what became a standard book on the technique of playing the violin and the following
year he was appointed court composer. His mother Anna Maria, was very supportive of Mozart s
father. Mozart was Leopold and Anna s last child.
Leopold was very big on making sure his two children succeed. He wanted to develop their
talents to a high maximum, to make money and raise his social status, because he gave up on his
own composing. Although Leopold pushed the children to do best for his social status, Leopold
saw it as his role as a father to the children. Leopold s wife, agreed on all of his actions towards
Mozart and Maria Anna.

Francisco Goya Essay
Francisco Goya s The Third of May1808: Principles of Art Design
Great insights went into the intricate composition of Francisco Goya s painting The Third of May
1808, his painting utilizes the principles of art and design which displays all six principles: unity
and variety; emphasis; balance; rhythm and movement; perspective; and proportion and scale. All
six principles could also be identified and critically analyzed within his painting The Third of May
1808 which ultimately resulted in a whole cohesive composition.
Goya s use of the principle of art design, unity is evident as the shapes and sizes he painted in
The Third of May 1808 are easily recognizable when looking at the prisoners and soldiers, the
viewer can notice that all the human bodies represent mass equally in the painting. Unity is defined
as a method of organizing artwork to bring all the parts together to make one integrated whole by
repeating elements in it. Furthermore he adds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Emphasis is exemplified by Goya when he painted a horizontal line to represent death. Convergence
is when many elements point to one thing, again this is exemplified when he painted the riffles
horizontally pointing at one of the prisoners brightly painted in yellow. Moreover it focuses the
attention of the viewer to that one prisoner painted brighter than the others and is easily notice
when the painting is first viewed.
Goya integrates the design principle balance in The Third of May 1808 when he utilizes informal
balance and is evident when he painted the soldiers and building on the right of the painting and
prisoners and hill on the left side of the painting which created a balanced visual weighted artwork
Informal Balance is defined as the elements of art and design used to create the same comfortable
feeling as with formal balance, but in a much more subtle way, using unlike objects that have equal

THE RIGHT AND THE GOOD IN HOBBES S THEORY ON MORAL PHILOSOPHY Mr.
Hobbes s Leviathan is one of the many outstanding philosophers that wrote books on moral
philosophy and their meaning. Hobbes explains in a clear and engaging manner that makes his
Statement thesis clear from the start: Man can be a self interested animal, and that this self interest
is enough to create a justified and obligatory ways of justice, citizenship, and morality. He mentions
in his thesis right from the beginning and is the basis for his theory that all things dealing with
ethical thinking one general thought generate the answer; that is the reason for accepting self
interest of all mankind. Even though his theory sounds like the perfect society in which a
person is looking out for everyone, I believe that this theory attempts to define and in turn reduce
our general concept of morality into the simplest form of self interest. No matter how this
argument is formed, there is a group of ethical actions in which the morality is true, but the
consequences are false. In most cases where the self interest of a person in the society is in
contradiction. In this paper I will explain a class of people that I will refer to as Jamaican
freeloaders. Jamaican Freeloaders are the populace in Jamaican culture who use other people also
who try to get something for nothing. They get it by any means possible and freely. I will show

Free Energy Machine The theory of Perpetual Motion and Energy
The theory of perpetual motion and energy is a topic that is one that is almost an outcast by the
scientific community. That is why it so interesting in my opinion. One day I was brain storming
and this method just popped into my head. My hypothesis states that a bigger pulley on the router
of an electric motor and a smaller pulleyon the router of an alternator connected to a battery would
put out higher amounts of energythan the same or even smaller pulley on the alternator. The
interesting thing about this experiment is that the results actually matched my hypothesis. As far as
getting this to run in a continuous fashion if you add an inverter and another battery to this system,
the amperage would be enough to power the motor and the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

To do that the motor needs to have a lower voltage than needed in the system. A fan motor would
probably be the best in this situation. The fan motor has a switch that allows different speeds for
the motor and a better chance to get the RPM down to the best speed possible. If this mechanism
were to work then there would be a clean and renewable source of electricity to distribute
throughout the world.
The next component in the system is the pulley. Pulleys are an ingenious invention that we use
in everyday objects such as cars, bikes, and clocks. The way that this system is set up is like that
of a car. In a car there are 4 different gears. There is first gear witch spins at the same speed or
RPM as the motor does. As you up shift the RPM of the motor gets lower and the speed of the tires
moves faster. With the pulleys in the right ratio there is the hope that the alternator will spin faster
than the motor does thus putting out a surplus of electricity
The choice of a metal chain or a rubber type belt was a tough one. Both of these options to drive
this mechanism have their own strengths and weaknesses. The pros to the chain are that it is will
wear out less easily, the chain wont slip as much and the chain also stands to be more efficient
because it doesn t stretch as much as the rubber belt or any other non metal belt does which causes
drag. The cons are that it can rust and it weighs more than a rubber belt. The pros to the rubber belt
are that it is light

The Pros And Cons Of Public Services
Under the NPM umbrella, public sector has also been experiencing a shift to greater competition.
The need to remove monopoly of service delivery and create contestability, through privatization,
public tendering, and term contracts, justifies the adoption of competition principle (Dunleavy
1994; Hood 1991). Insisting to do bureaucratic provision on public servicesinstead of contracting
them out, knowing that private sectorcan deliver them better, it is believed would only force
governments to lose comparative advantages on price, efficiency, and effectiveness (Dunleavy
1994. p.49). This way, governments are able to fulfil their responsibility in providing services and
the financing, while simultaneously stimulate greater competition among providers under market
dynamics. However, it is hard to instigate public service ethos in private parties. Therefore, the
capacity of private entities to act consistently with the public interest is greatly questioned in this
scenario. Are concerns such as public health and safety, environment sustainability, and social
equity likely to be sacrificed underneath market mechanisms? When power is shared with
organizations which have business objectives apart from governments goals, the fundamental issue
is how to detect which missions they are carrying out. Many public services being delivered by
third parties are targeted for vulnerable sections of the community which can pose a higher risk of
potential abuse, neglect, exploitation, and

Gladwell has made an interesting argument about how people become successful. In this paper, I

Biblical And Mythological Allusions Of Moby Dick
Moby Dick is Herman Melville s masterpiece, a purposeful novel that acts both as a documentary
of a sea voyage but also a philosophical allusion on life as a whole. Moby Dick is far beyond its
time in reference to its use of allusion within its text. In this novel, Herman Melville frequently
uses biblical and mythological allusions. With these strategic allusions, the reader is able to
begin to understand the topics of discussion within the book and is also exposed to the wisdom
and potential knowledge Melville possesses. Melville uses many Biblical and mythological
references in the form of character stories, which I found beneficial in helping interpret the texts
meaning (Howard, 27). This paper will discuss the Biblical and Mythological allusions that
Melville s use in Moby Dickin the hopes to develop a deeper understanding of the issues Melville
was hoping to address. An Allusion is a brief and indirect reference to a well known person, place,
thing, cultural, historical, or literary work (Delahunty, 24). As Described by Andrew Delahunty in
the Oxford Dictionary of Reference and Allusion, allusions form a colorful extension to the English
language, drawing on our collective knowledge of literature, mythology, and the Bible to help us
connect and interpret literature (26). Though an allusion is used to reference something significant,
it does not describe in detail the person or thing to which it is referring too. Writers often use
allusions as just a passing comment

government that uses the unfair system of slavery.

From blast furnaces to highly efficient electric arc furnaces, the steel industry has seen
advancements in both technology and range of product versatility (The Industrial Revolution n.d.).
Steel is closely linked to the ferrous scrap industry and the iron ore industry in that its main raw
materials are derived from these areas. Because of its chemical properties, steel does not have high
product substitutability; therefore world s economies have long been depending on its extensive use.
1.4 Early Market Structure of the Steel Industry
Following the post war era of the WWII, steel distribution remained mainly focused on the former

English as a Lingua Franca
Over centuries, the English language has evolved from the roots of other ancient languages
including: Latin, the Germanic languages, French, even Greek. Their influences are clear to see in
its vocabulary and spoken dialects, which have also adopted words into its lexicon. Most of the
aforementioned have their complexities, causing difficulties for students and scholars to learn as
second languages. However, English is a much simpler language to comprehend due to its limited
inflections and familiarity of spoken and written words. Thus, it has become the lingua franca for
people around the world and is taught in the classrooms of most non native speaking countries. As

Death of a Salesman Family Relationships Essay
Battle between Father and Son Family relationships always have a way of playing a key role for
the duration of most literary pieces. According to Arthur Miller s novel, Death of a Salesman,
the interaction of Willy and his sons, Happy and Biff, shows that family ties usually are
connected either physically or emotionally in some way or another. Willy Loman is just like
every father in a father/son bond, yet all he wants is to be a part of his son s life. Even though
Biff and Happy admire and have so much love for their father when they are younger, later down
the road when they are older suddenly they realize he had failed to prepare them for the real
society in life. Many people would say that in the play that the father/son... Show more content on

All Willy really wants is to be a part of his son s lives and, Miller shows this by the example of
when in the play Biff comes home to recollect himself, Willy seems to think this as a failure
because he would rather see his eldest son be likely more successful rather than his youngest,
Happy. Hereafter, Willy tries to take matter into his own hands, I ll get him a job selling, he
could be big in no time , he says to Linda (1215). Partially due to Willy s consistency in Biff s life
conflicts start to erupt more partially to do with the fact being that they had different ideas of
what the American Dream really is. With Biff believing that the most inspiring job to a man is
working outdoors, his father disregarded by saying that working on the road selling was the
greatest job a man could possibly have (1276). The boys are clearly not at all fully functioning
adults because of their upbringing throughout their life. Another major issue in the play with the
father/son relationship between Willy and his sons is the amount of love shown towards them.
The continuous support from growing up had molded the Lomans into men who always fled
back home whenever a problem approached. Biff says to Willy, I never got anywhere because
you blew me so full of hot air I could not stand taking orders from anybody! (1275). The Loman
brothers were babied so much all through their

Gravity And Force Essay
There is gravity everywhere. It gives the shape for the planet orbit and the orbit of the solar system
and even the galaxies. Gravity that comes from the sun get throughout the solar system that keeps
the orbit of the planet. The gravity that comes from the earth keeps the moon and human satellites

Forces are in play all around us. Things that is hanging, sitting, balancing, and moving are all
using force. Force can come in many different forms and types. Force is a push or pull. It is not
something that you touch or see but you can see the force in action. Force can be measured in a
device that is called the force meter. If there is an interaction between two object it means that

Gravity decreases with distance, so if you went farther and farther from the planet the gravity will

reason that we feel weight on earth because gravity of the earth is pulling us down. While the
ground is a stand that stop us from falling. Objects and us human we are pressed against it. Any

Victims of American Westward Expansion...Accommodation or Resistance? When viewing a map
of the country of Mexico prior to the American westward expansion, it was actually larger than the
United States had been at that time. Some lands that Mexico lost in the Mexican American war
under the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, are Texas (the second largest state in the present US),
California(the third largest state in the present US) and New Mexico(the fifth largest state in the
present US). Due to this defeat Mexico lost half of its national territory. Half of Mexico s lands

By doing this she is clearly stating that she is not willing to except the traditions of the
Americans because her people had their own. She also used writing to help preserve the folklore
of the New Mexican people for she did not want their culture and ways of life to be forgotten.
Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo was an influential man from California who unlike Vigil y Alarid,
was in support of Americans coming to California. He thought that it would be strong, positive
and economically smart to develop unoccupied lands. But what he did not realize was that the
Americans were not interested in adapting to the culture of Mexicans. They wanted the
Mexicans to adapt to the Anglo ways of life. On June 14, 1846 a group of 35 or so American
men led by John C. Fremont invaded Sonoma expecting to go to war with the Mexicans but
found nothing but a sleeping town (Padilla, 53). Vallejo writes Doubtless God had decreed that
June 1846 was to be the blackest month of my life (Padilla, 53). The Americans that Vallejo had
befriended had turned against him: ...who seems to have struck a bargain with the devil: he had
been friendly toward the same American immigrants who were now about to seize him as a
prisoner of war (Padilla, 54). The irony was there was no war in Sonoma at the Bear Flag Revolt
but because of this

  • 2. The Russian Revolution And World War I The Russian Revolution and World War I Samantha Jones Period 3 19 May 2017 The Russian Revolution, also known as the Bolshevik Revolution, took place in the year 1917. This revolution was the result of many things, though it majorly began as a revolt by the peasant and working classes against the current czar, Nicholas II, and the Russian government. It was when the final czar and his family were killed. This revolution is what led Lenin and the Bolsheviks into power. It was a major contribution to the spread of communism and ultimately in creating the communist country of the Soviet Union. Despite all of the effects the revolution had on Russia, how the country was run, and who controlled the government, it did not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Soon, they were joined by military officials and soldiers who refused to shoot the crowds. The czar tried replacing officials in the government, believing that not only would the government approve more of these officials, but that they would be more effective in handling these issues. This ended up failing as the new officials were objectively worse than the old ones. In the end these attempts led to extreme unrest in Russia, making it very easy for people such as Lenin and the Bolsheviks to come and start the ultimate revolution and take down the current monarchical government. The war brought with it many economic and militaristic issues that ultimately led to the Bolshevik Revolution. The military revolts were a major part of the Russian Revolution, making it very difficult for battles to be won on the Russian front. This meant they made no major moves either beneficial or detrimental to either side of the war. Much of this is to the fault of Czar Nicholas II, as, despite having no prior military experience, he decided to lead the military effort. As mentioned previously, an estimated fifteen and a half million men were drafted from peasant and working class areas. This led to many of them being untrained. When they were sent to war, many had to wait months in barracks just to be trained. Many were trained with broomsticks due to lack of proper weapons and training tools. The lack of guns and other weapons also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Canada and the US should not have a common economic system with little government involvement. Having a mixed economy is better in many ways. In a mixed economy, not only do you get all the benefits of a market economy, you also get a couple of other benefits. In a mixed economy, there are public services and programs provided, a good mix of competition and cooperation, and the government can control and regulate the means of production. In a mixed economy, the government can intercede in the places of need. This can help reduce issues like unemployment, poverty, and can help with making sure everybody is getting the care and programs that they need. In a mixed economy, we are provided with public schooling, Welfare programs, free health care, employment insurance, pension, child tax credit and we are even fortunate enough to be provided with small things such as recycle and garbage pick up. Having things like public schooling makes sure that children get the education they need in a safe and enjoyable environment, which will have allowed them to have a positive learning experience and hopefully one day be able to contribute to our economy as well. With that being said, homeless people are also provided with welfare programs, more job opportunities and shelters that they can go to which will help provide them with a brighter future. • 4. Foundations of Political Thought Essays Aristotle and Socrates and Plato s beliefs have similarities mainly evident in their denouncement of democracy for the state. The views of Socrates expressed and written by his pupil Plato are vastly philosophical in nature and he promotes the idea of questioning life to achieve insight. The philosophers who possess the absolute truth are the best equipped to rule society according to Plato and his Allegory of the Cave. Conversely, Aristotletakes a more political scienceapproach of discussing and analyzing various constitutions to determine the best form of government, where the rational beings in a society are the natural rulers. Aristotle promotes the idea of rule based on law rather than simple superiority. The differences in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Politics, 83) Through this view, Aristotle expresses his distrust of a total democracy that is parallel to the ideas of his mentors. Plato attacks democracy and describes the disbursement of political freedom to the masses as an intoxication of wine, claiming that a democratic city gets drunk on too much unmixed freedom (The Republic, 220). Plato details the filtration of this drunkenness from society disobeying rulers trickling down to the son disrespecting the father and eventually equal rights in relations between the sexes (The Republic, 221). Plato and Aristotle share this skepticism of democracy. The limitation of freedom, liberty, and equality not only with regards to mistrust of democracy but also in terms of denial of citizenship and justification of slavery are commonalities in the teachings of Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. Plato accepts slavery throughout The Republic, because he often deems whole groups of people unworthy of freedom. Aristotle s justifies slavery through the characteristic of rationality; he claims that there is a condition of natural slavery where when one being is rational and the other is not, there is a natural master slave relationship (Politics, 2). For if something is capable of rational foresight, it is a natural ruler and master, whereas whatever can use its body to labor is ruled and is a natural slave ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Literacy Is The Way We Identify With And Comprehend The World Literacy, in my eyes, is the way we identify with and comprehend the world and the various works of literary value. From the beginning of my existence, I believe my literacy has compounded upon itself to bring me to my present state. I will measure my different literacy stages in parallel with the type of schooling I went through (i.e. elementary, middle, and high school). As my literary power grew, the significance at which it held to me personally, also rose. Therefore, I will be measuring the direct relationship between the significance and power of my personal literacy. Within the time frame of my elementary school years, I was able to develop the basic foundation for a long lasting literacy skill. Directing the attention towards reading, I can trace those roots back to the days of early computer games. For example, when I was a wee lad, I did not have a computer at my house, so I went to my grandma s house and used her computer. While on the computer I discovered a little game by the name of Putt Putt. The game involved the following of Putt Putt, a tiny purple car, and his crusade to save those who are in troublesome situations such as losing their shovel. The experience initiated the way I read as it engaged me in a fun and interesting way to understand a story while also learning key words and effectively creating a comprehension. The little snippets of plot allowed me to read along with the narrator, as well as providing some sections where critical thinking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Colonial times, women worked around the house, didn t have legals rights, some were wealthy and others were slaves and others lived in the city. As young girls, most women learned how to work around the house, which they most likely learned from their mother. Few women throughout the colonies had a proper education, as some couldn t even read or write. But, because women worked in their household, these skills were not necessary. Due to the amount of tasks that needed to be accomplished, women worked very hard. Some of their chores included sewing clothes, cooking, baking, making sure the house is kept clean and the list goes on. The events of Rapunzel s life lead the reader to identify the dream as more of a nightmare. His act of agreement transitions the dreamer to the anal stage. The witch takes the baby as part of the agreement, naming her Rapunzel, another word for rampion, symbolizing another oral image. When Rapunzel turns twelve, the witch locks her in a tower to hide her beauty from the world. Although the tower represents phallic image, it also symbolizes how the dreamer becomes anal retentive. The tower had neither stairs nor doors, only high up at the very top a small window ; the witch tries to keep Rapunzel from the outside world, in theory, keeping her in (1). During the anal stage, a normal child learns to control ones bodily functions. Thus, Rapunzel becomes dependent on the witch. So the next day he comes to the tower, and repeats the witch s words Let down your golden hair and the Prince climbs up (2). At first, the prince scares Rapunzel but he then spoke to her so kindly and that his heart had been so touched by her singing (2). Rapunzel undergoes sexual identification through the prince, another indication of the phallic stage. The prince then offers to help Rapunzel leave the tower and to marry him (2). The paintings of this period look as if they have deconstructed objects and rearranged them on the canvas. One goal of this is to depict different viewpoints all at once. After the artists had grown tired of the Analytical period, they began to develop what is known as the Synthetic period. Picasso and Braque continue to introduce new and controversial changes with the introduction of collaged... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Within his complexity came out a brilliant artist that was widely considered the most influential painter of the 20th century. Pollock began to study painting in 1929 at the Art Students League, in New York, under the Regionalist painter Thomas Hart Benton. During the 1930s he was being influenced also by the Mexican muralist painters and by certain aspects of Surrealism. By the mid 1940s he was painting in a completely abstract manner, and the `drip and splash style for which he is best known emerged with some abruptness in 1947. Instead of using the traditional easel he moved his canvas to the floor and poured and dripped his paint from a can; instead of using brushes he manipulated it with `sticks, trowels or knives sometimes he would use a mixture of `sand, broken glass or other foreign matter . This manner of Action painting was common with Surrealist theories of automatism. Clement Greenberg emerged on the American art scene at a time when it was still relatively small and critics belonged to the insular world of the artists themselves. Among them was an obscure painter named Jackson Pollock, who was earning very little money. Clement Greenberg, was the art critic who propelled the career of Jackson Pollock and helped to establish Abstract Expressionism as a major artistic movement Greenberg began to praise on Pollock s work, though very few people noticed at ... Taking skin fold measurements requires specific training. Without training, it is complicated to obtain consistent accurate skin fold measurements. To reduce errorwhile using the skin fold method, it is important to have a good quality skin fold caliper. Good quality calipers should deliver a specific amount of force and this can be assured by the manufacturer of the caliper. he easiest skin fold site to measure was the abdominal area. The potential sources of error when measuring circumferences and skeletal diameters can occur if the administrator does not properly measure the specific areas. Measuring too high or too low of a certain area can skew accuracy. It is also important for the administrator to remember to stand on the right side of the participant. Not accurately reading the measuring tape can result in error. For example, reading inches instead of centimeters would cause error. For my skin fold measurements, body fat percentage was between twenty five and thirty five percent. For BIA, my body fat percentage for sitting was twenty two percent, standing with straight arms was twenty one percent, and standing with bent arms at seventeen percent. Harley Davidson rejected this deal, but later used the idea to sell their own bikes to the Postal Service (Harley and the Davidsons). In 1914, the U.S Postal Service was using 4,800 Harley Davidson motorcycles to deliver mail. To save their company, Harley designed motorcycles to be used by law enforcement across the United States. By the mid 1920s, roughly 3,000 law enforcement personnel would be riding a Harley Davidson, a testament to William Harley s engineering genius. In addition, Harley would design bikes with larger engines and brakes which helped boost sales for a short while before the Great Depression came. To counter the resulting plummet in sales, Harley gave the bikes a facelift, designing new bikes with more appealing fuel tanks and adding both stylized eagle designs and the company logo on the bikes to increase appeal. I personally as a young viewer see that Hook s version is more exciting to an audience because it can be viewed with more technical advances to the film. The fear of the unknown (in this case the beast is unknown and is put into the boy s heads by their imaginations) can be a powerful force, which can turn people to either insight or hysteria. The boys end up killing Simon because the happenings which have occurred have lead them to believe that there is a beast on the island with them, when in fact it is just the pilot. The fan motor has a switch that allows different speeds for the motor and a better chance to get the RPM down to the best speed possible. If this mechanism were to work then there would be a clean and renewable source of electricity to distribute throughout the world. The next component in the system is the pulley. Pulleys are an ingenious invention that we use in everyday objects such as cars, bikes, and clocks. The way that this system is set up is like that of a car. In a car there are 4 different gears. There is first gear witch spins at the same speed or RPM as the motor does. As you up shift the RPM of the motor gets lower and the speed of the tires moves faster. The need to remove monopoly of service delivery and create contestability, through privatization, public tendering, and term contracts, justifies the adoption of competition principle (Dunleavy 1994; Hood 1991). Insisting to do bureaucratic provision on public servicesinstead of contracting them out, knowing that private sectorcan deliver them better, it is believed would only force governments to lose comparative advantages on price, efficiency, and effectiveness (Dunleavy 1994. p.49). This way, governments are able to fulfil their responsibility in providing services and the financing, while simultaneously stimulate greater competition among providers under market dynamics. However, it is hard to instigate public service ethos in private parties. Therefore, the capacity of private entities to act consistently with the public interest is greatly questioned in this scenario. Are concerns such as public health and safety, environment sustainability, and social equity likely to be sacrificed underneath market mechanisms? When power is shared with organizations which have business objectives apart from governments goals, the fundamental issue is how to detect which missions they are carrying out. After all, freedom is worth the risk, especially since it is a right that he believes is worth dying for. But even so, Benito stalls the ship near Chile where Captain Delano eventually sees the ship and decides to make a visit. Smart Babo quickly improvises and makes a plan to try to deceive Delano by tricking him and his crew to believe that the ship is still a slave ship and that they needed supplies because of a disaster. This usage of deception by Babo is significant because it shows how Babo is willing to do so for freedom because he understands that if they were to present themselves to Delano without tricking him, then Delano would have tried to fight the slaves. So Babo knows that tricking him is to their benefit because it would ve prevented a fight and in return, he would be able to steal supplies from Delano and would be headed towards Senegal. Most of the aforementioned have their complexities, causing difficulties for students and scholars to learn as second languages. Hereafter, Willy tries to take matter into his own hands, I ll get him a job selling, he could be big in no time , he says to Linda (1215). Partially due to Willy s consistency in Biff s life conflicts start to erupt more partially to do with the fact being that they had different ideas of what the American Dream really is. With Biff believing that the most inspiring job to a man is working outdoors, his father disregarded by saying that working on the road selling was the greatest job a man could possibly have (1276). The boys are clearly not at all fully functioning adults because of their upbringing throughout their life. Another major issue in the play with the father/son relationship between Willy and his sons is the amount of love shown towards them. The continuous support from growing up had molded the Lomans into men who always fled back home whenever a problem approached.
