Advantage Of Competitive Federalism
The principle of federalism was introduced to ensure the government did not possess too much power
over a nation. The implementation of federalism allowed for a compromise to be made between the
states and national government. This compromise ensured that power was divided among the states
and the national government. Federalism remained very limited, much like boundaries to ensure
overstepping did not occur. The overall explanation for the principle of federalism and its origin dates
back to the need of a strong centralized government. Of course, federalism corrected the decentralized
powers and created a fair system to abide by that focused on the importance of division of power and
centralized government. There are various forms of federalism, one of which being competitive
federalism.
According to Dr. Michael Greve, competitive federalism seeks to discipline governments. It seeks to
discipline governments by allowing each government to compete for their citizen s business. The
concept of competitive federalism enables choice and change. Competitive federalism is not confined
to one government at all. Conversely, it allows for citizens to pick and choose which government they
wish to live under. There are benefits associated with competitive federalism which can include
various forms of innovation, product differentiation, choice of the consumers, and other services.
Federalism definitely empowers citizens because ultimately, they have the most say in what they

How To Be An Effective Writer
Being an awesome writer is always a number one goal for me. In the beginning my writing was all
over the place and not structured. Most of my inspiration was taken from unstructured climax after
climax leading into long downtime stories. My writing reflected that of one who knew the focus but
got into details too much leading to a whole story based on the details not the main topic. Eventually i
learned strategies that made my writing grow a seed into roots.
Towards my seventh grade year my ability to dream through my writing and invision where i wanted
my writing to go grew into a healthy stem. My writing started to be quality stable and intresting pieces
to read. I started to use a thesaurus more to better articulate myself. I spent a lot

Sterilization Laws Of The United States
Sterilization legislature was enacted on the state level with the goal of physically preventing the
procreation of individuals deemed to be unfit, mainly handicapped persons or criminals. Though the
nature of these laws did not outright target certain races or social classes, a disproportionate amount of
the individuals sterilized were non white or of immigrant background. Prominent eugenicists and
eugenic organizations in the U.S. played a key role in lobbying for state sterilization laws. Harry H.
Laughlin, superintendent of the Eugenics Record Office, drafted the American Model Eugenical
Sterilization Law in 1922, which served as a model for many sterilizations laws in the states
(Berenbaum, 1998). By 1926, 23 states had passed sterilization laws that were voluntary and/or
involuntary in nature (Sofair, 2000). Laughlin and other eugenicists called for the sterilization of
institutionalized individuals under the assertion that their genetically inferior traits would be passed to
their progeny and be an economic drain on the state. Many states complied, and by 1935 over 30
states had some form of sterilization law with over 21,000 compulsory sterilizations performed (Allen
1997). Though the eugenic nature of these laws was stressed by eugenicists, it was acknowledged that
the political support of such laws were greatly financially motivated. Another important legislation
passed by the U.S. was the Immigration Restriction Act of 1924, which was the first immigration

Incas and Aztecs Essay
Incas and Aztecs
Like the Athenians and Spartans of ancient Greece, the Inca and the Aztec bear resemblance to the two
other ancient cultures. The Athenians and Incas were both more interested in developing their Arts as
well as their military, but both the Spartans and the Aztecs were highly interested more so in warfare
than religion. Although the Aztec and Inca never had to face each other, it is interesting to compare
them because of their dominant positions of extremely large and powerful tribes. I am going to
compare and contrast religion and the social system along with their system of government, which can
be put together.
The Inca and Aztec were both extremely religious. Their entire lives revolved around ... Show more

They believed in good and evil things and saw omens in many things such as rainbows, falling stars,
and the hoot of an owl.
They believed that Viracocha was the most important god of all. He was similar to Omelecuhtli, the
Aztec god. He was the creator of the Sun, Moon, and Stars that were all seen as gods. The Sun was the
life giver and was the most important server of Viracocha. He watched over the crops and was the
father of the Emperor. His image was a human face surrounded by rays of flowing hair.
The Moon was the wife of the Sun. It was believed that an eclipse was the result a great serpent or
mountain lion trying to eat her. To frighten off the creatures, they would point their weapons at the
moon and start screaming and shouting at it.
The constellations, or Stars, all had duties assigned to them by Viracocha. For example, Pleiades had
the job of looking over the seeds in the fields, and Lyra, which looked like a llama, looked after the
herds.
They also worshipped some other gods such as Thunder, the god of weather, who was an important
deity. He was pictured as a man with a war club and a sling in the other hand. Thunder and lightning
came from the sling and he drew rain from the Milky Way. Farmers worshipped the Earth Mother and
fishermen worshipped that Mother Sea.
The Aztec and Inca both had very different beliefs for the afterlife.
The Aztec, like most Indians,

Rudolf Lab The Theorist, The Theory And The Context
Part 1: The theorist, The Theory and The Context Rudolf Laban, a brilliant acting theorist, inspires
many individuals, groups of actors and performers all over the world to this day. His progressive
acting theories mold an individual into a character effortlessly and effectively. Although his ideas were
not always appreciated, his critics only pushed him to better his techniques. Rudolf Laban was born on
December 15th, 1879, in Bratislava, which used to be part of the Austro Hungarian Empire. His
Father, a highly decorated Officer in the Army, hoped that Rudolf would follow in his footsteps;
however, Rudolf found himself intrigued with the complexity of the arts. He studied art and acting at
the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. While ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rudolf Laban died at the age of 78 on July 1st 1998, in the United Kingdom. Furthermore, Rudolf
Laban s theories focus primarily on movement. His movements are specific to what the actor intends
on portraying. Not only so, but the movement of the actor would in turn directly reflect the character s
personality. He believed every movement performed displayed a greater purpose to internally reflect
on one s character. Thus, His movement theories help an actor to bring out the individuality of each
character portrayed in a performance or dance. Part 2: Practical Explorations and Development of the
Solo Theatre Piece For this solo piece, I chose to incorporate Laban s theories into an interpretive
dance. I display, not two different characters movements, but one character s movements as he/she
develops, learns, and grows throughout his/her lifetime. To do so, I will use shadows in the
background to interact with the character in order to allow the audience to better comprehend my
actions and movements throughout the song. As the actor, I conform to the story line and the character
I am portraying by my movements and interactions with the shadows projected onto the backdrop of
the stage. As I prepared for this performance, I found it difficult to incorporate the movement patterns
of two characters, due to the fact that it is specifically a solo piece rather than a duet or

Themes In Monica Hesse s Girl In The Blue Coat
In Monica Hesse s Girl in the Blue Coat, themes of World War 2 can be seen throughout the
Netherlands, where this story takes place. While this book is not written around a specific battle or
event of World War 2, it portrays events such as Jewish holding camps, German soldiers patrolling
within the Netherlands, and how the black market had an impact on the people in the war.
The main character, Hanneke, has multiple run ins with the German policemen within her town. There
were many different types of police patrolling Amsterdam around this time, two of the types
commonly seen being the Green Police and the Gestapo. The Gestapo known as the Geheime
Staatspolizei in German which means Secret State Police, was the official police of Nazi Germany ...

Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg were titled the Low Countries because much of their land
surface was at or below sea level. Then, on May 15, 1940, the Dutch surrendered to Germany after
five days of fighting. Germany began to construct air force bases throughout their new found land in
the Netherlands to stage Luftwaffe, translating to air weapon, attacks on Britain. The Luftwaffe was
the German aerial warfare branch of the military forces during World War II; however, ten percent of
the Luftwaffe s strength was still used as ground units. Nazi philosophy viewed the Dutch Christians
as one of the Aryan races, a racial grouping for people of European and Western Asian heritage, which
qualified them to be Germanized while the Dutch Jews were subjected to the same mistreatment as
Jews in other nations occupied by Germany. The first deportation took place in February of 1941
when a small group of Jews were sent to a Concentration Camp in Austria called Mauthausen. The
occupation administration s treatment toward the Dutch became more strict in May of 1942 after
realizing that most of the Dutch population

Comparison of Ancient Mesopotamian and Egyptian Art
The artworks of Ancient Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt are both strikingly different and similar at
the same time. Consistent is the theme of serving the different gods the two cultures believed in. In
Mesopotamia the various city states each had their own protective deity, and in Egypt they sometimes
differed from one dynasty to the next. Whatever the case, with the beginning of kingdoms and
rulership came the need to justify a position of power and establish a hierarchy. And as more time
passed came also the human need to leave an impression on their world. Looking at the example of the
statues of Gudea from the Neo Sumerian period and the Temple of Ramses II from the New Kingdom
of Egypt in the 19th dynasty, will show how both rulers of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Guarding the entrance to the 100 feet tall temple are four enormous statues of the Pharaoh, who ruled
for roughly 66 years during the 19th dynasty. Each statue stands 67 feet high and depicts Ramses
seated on his throne, wearing the double crown of Upper and Lower Egypt. Adorning the sides of the
thrones is the symbolic unification of Egypt by the Nile Gods. The whole upper body of one of the
figures is destroyed, damaged by an ancient earthquake. You can still see the remains of the torso and
head at the base near the feet. Statues of Ramses mother Mut Tuy, principal wife Nefertari, and son,
Prince Amonherkhepshef, stand at his sides, almost as high as his knees, and smaller statues between
his legs are thought to represent either his daughters or lesser wives. The frieze topping the temple
facade shows 22 baboons worshipping the sun. The recessed statue above the entrance is that of the
falcon headed Ra Harakhti (associated with Horus) and is flanked by two Bas reliefs of Ramses,
presumably worshipping him. Three connected halls inside the temple dig 185 feet deep into the
mountain, where pictures of the King s grand accomplishments can be seen covering the walls. The

Emily Dickinson Snake
Emily Dickinson is highly recognized as being one of the best American poets to ever write. Her
legacy lives on through her many published poems and some of her poems that I am sure were lost.
When reading Dickinson s work for the first time, some people can interpret her as a stuffy woman
who never left the house. But, when you dig deeper into her poems and letters it is revealed that
Dickinson was full of whit, sarcasm, and somewhat weird sexual tendencies (weird tendencies for the
time period, not so weird in today s society.) A narrow Fellow in the Grass is one of Dickinson s many
great poems. This poem is full of layers of meaning, with every aspect of the poem drawing in the
reader s attention. The strange wording, the dashes, the question ... Show more content on

In my opinion the snake represents the same thing that it does in the Bible, sin and corruption. In
many literary works a snake is represented as sin and I do not think that is any different in this poem.
In the Bible the snake is seen as the one who tempts Eve in the Garden of Eden. The devil manifests
himself into the shape of a snake which could be the very thing Dickinson was trying to represent
through the snake in this poem. Dickinson s background through church could definitely be a reason
that she would portray the snake in that way. The speaker in this poem is also symbolic. The speaker is
an important element because right in the middle of the poem is when we learn that the speaker is a
man, not a woman. Up until that point I assumed that the speaker was a woman because the poet was a
woman. A woman or girl could just as easily come upon the same situation with the snake as the boy
does, so why is it important that the speaker is a man? I think throughout the whole poem Dickinson
uses a heavy amount of personification for the same reason she let us know in the middle of the poem
that the speaker was a male. I think she wanted us to see that not everything is as it appears to be.
Throughout the poem we have the confusion of the snake as being a snake or a Fellow , the snake
being a snake or a whip, and the speaker being one with nature or the snake being a disturbing event. I
think Dickinson uses the speaker as another device to remind the reader that just because something
looks a certain way in the beginning does not mean it will be the same in the end. The way Dickinson
used the setting is another way she tricked the reader into thinking things were one way when they
were actually not. In the beginning of the poem the setting is that of an open field, then the reader
learns of a boy who is actually the speaker. This completely changes the setting because now the
reader is actually in a conversion about the

Cultural Tension In Rocky IV And Office Space
Throughout history, Americans have dealt with cultural and social tensions in a number of ways. For
several decades, the nation was manipulated by fear and paranoia as the shadow of Soviet influence
continued to loom large in everyone s life. Rocky IV (1985) is an American sports film written by,
directed, and starring Sylvester Stallone. Rocky IV tells the story of world champion American boxer
Rocky Balboa (Stallone) seeking to avenge the death of a friend and defend his country s honor by
daring to travel to the Soviet Union and fight their best athlete on enemy soil. Director Mike Judge s
1999 comedy film Office Space depicts a different kind of enemy in modern America, as it satirizes
the daily grind of a typical software company and its disgruntled employees in the 1990s. By
incorporating real world elements of cultural tension, immersing the viewer into an all too familiar
environment, and mirroring the mentality of society during their respective times, Rocky IV and
Office Space effectively inspire and educate each viewer in their own unique ways. ... Show more

In the 1980s, the tension between the United States and the Soviet Union hit its peak, and certain parts
of the film parallel this historic tension. For example, when the Soviet s greatest athlete, Ivan Drago
(Dolph Lundgren), travels to America and defeats Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) on his own turf
killing him in the process it is insinuated that he is considered a war criminal for his actions. Drago s
wife is observed shouting You have this belief that your country is very good and we are so very bad .

people in society during this time truly felt about their respective adversary (Lowe,

Analysis of the Fallout New Vegas Video Game
Fallout New Vegas takes place in post nuclear Las Vegas, where the New California Republic (NCR)
and Caesars Legion are battling it out for control of the strip. You are a random courier who wakes up
in the small town of New Springs after being shot in the head. After being patched up, you set off into
the Mojave to find out who shot you. When Fallout New Vegas was announced, I was not interested in
it at all. I had never heard of the Fallout games beforehand, and it just seemed like a very generic
shooter. Was I ever wrong. Fallout New Vegas is now one of my favourite games of all time. The most
amazing thing about Fallout New Vegas is the atmosphere. The game has a very nineteen fifty s style
to it. In the more civilized parts of New Vegas people walk around with the elvis style jackets and the
flowing skirts that were popular in the 50 s. There is also an optional in game radio which belts out
popular fifties and sixties tunes from the likes of Nat King Cole and Dean Martin. It all really makes
you feel like you re actually there. Another thing that makes Fallout New Vegas great is overall game
play. The game is a mix between a shooter and a role playing game. The game takes place from a first
person perspective and your character generally uses guns and laser weapons, but you also level up.
When you level up you get experience points to upgrade different skills like your ability to fix things

Rhetorical Analysis Of Trump s Inaugural Address
When a president makes his inauguration speech, it usually talks about what is going on with the
country, and illustrates what will be done to fix it. Compared to his predecessors, Trump s speech was
much shorter. I am convinced that he thought that he best thing to do was play it safe in the speech to
save himself from all the criticism that he could. This did not however work out in his favor for the
reason that he might have said more about his presidency by saying less. Trump opened his speech,
not talking about what previous presidents accomplished, instead just acknowledged and thanked
them. It is a very simple and safe introduction to a speech that will continue this theme. Then it goes

Examples Of Ruthless In Rome
Ruthless After the Great Fire in Rome in 64 C.E., Nero blamed the Christians and persecuted them
even if they had done nothing wrong and were innocent. Many emperors and influential people were
ruthless when it came to securing their power; an example is the emperor Claudius, who was
responsible for the executions of over three hundred knights as well as thirty seven senators, and his
wife assassinated by his wife. In one of Rome s founding stories, the basis of the empire, because a
group of people wanted to expand their city, the Rape of the Sabines occurred: an event in which the

Analyzing Themes Throughout Edgar Allen Poe s Short Stories
Andrew Diamond

Themes Throughout Edgar Allen Poe s Stories Edgar Allen Poe exhibits many different themes
throughout his poems and short stories, most readers see his stories as consistently and exclusively
putting death at the fore front in themes but there are countless other themes that Poe puts in his
stories and poems. These themes include love, uncertainty, subconscious self, nature, human
imagination, hope and despair so one can see that Poe is not as death oriented as many people think
and say he is. The first theme I will be focusing on in this evaluation is death, Poe wrote many if not
most of his short stories and poems focusing on death for example in Eldorado the main character can
only fulfill his goals through dying, another example is The Raven where the main character is
increasingly focused on imminent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the story Telltale Heart the narrator for nights on end ponders in detail of how he will kill the old
man who is living in his house while trying to explain how he has not lost his own sanity this
depiction of the human imagination ties directly into Poe s theme of death because he not only thinks
about how he will kill he old man but inevitably kills the old man and hides him under the floor
boards of his home. Nature, this theme is an underlying one and is not easily picked out of his stories
yet the connection can still be made, in the short story The City in the Sea the city that had once
prospered inevitably gets destroyed and sinks to hell, this gives the reader the idea that Poe does not
like urbanized life and prefers nature. To support this idea, you can also make the connection that
many of the Protagonists in Poe s stories and poems wander around in forests and other natural areas
to discover something about their selves and have an epiphany you could call it like in the story

The Oath Of The Black Hand Society Essay
Origin: The oath sworn by all new members entering the Black Hand Society is a primary source
found in a Serbian Press website (press online). The oath was written and signed by Dimitrijevic in
1911 in Belgrade, the kingdom of Serbia. Purpose: The oath sworn on by the future members provides
an in depth look at what each member had to swear by in order to be accepted into the society. This
oath furthermore encapsulates the solemnity of the organization and to what extent each member
would go to devote themselves to nationalism and the organisation s ideals. The creation of this oath
ensured that members of the group would not betray the secrecy of the society and furthermore, since
the wording of the oath is so stringent, future members were aware of the extent of devotion necessary
and the consequences that come with not obeying the ideals of the group. Value: The tone of the oath
suggests the kind of goals the organisation pursued to achieve. In addition to this, the secrecy
mentioned in the oath relates to the fundamental aspects of terrorism and helps answer the
investigative question. Limitations: The oath of a secret society may be altered as time passes.
Furthermore, if a society is secret to such a large extent, the oath available to the public can lack
pieces of information regarding the society as facts may be omitted for the sake of the group s
security. This source may contain some bias as the document was written by the leader of the Black
Hand society and

The film, Atonement, is about a dramatic romance during the 1930 s in England. This film has 3 parts

and everybody was out searching for them. Briony stumbles across a man who has apparently raped

which was an accurate detail from the war that was played in this movie. It showed that the Germans
were heartless. The battle of Dunkirk was a fight between Germany and the allies. The Germans
trapped British and French armies on the beaches of Dunkirk. There were about 330,000 men that
were trapped. The beach was unable to allow large boats to get near where the actual men were.
Smaller boats were brought in where men boarded on and then soon after got transferred to a larger

there were numerous amounts of casualties, the evacuation was a boost for the British and it gave
confidence to the allies to keep fighting. This film was an accurate depiction of the time period

Sybil, the host, is thought to have sixteen different selves. Though all the personalities do not come at

Sybil suffers from a severe case of Dissociative Identity Disorder. Dissociative Identity Disorder is a
chronic form of dissociation, a mental illness which manufactures a lack of connection between a
person s thoughts, feelings, actions, memories, or sense of self (MPD). DID is associated with two or
more distinct identities, or personality states, that reside in and alternately take control of an
individual. The person s behavior is determined by the personality that is dominant at a given
time. The person also experiences memory loss that is too extensive to be explained by ordinary
forgetfulness. A victim that survives with DID will endure lost time (amnesia) or black out spells,
which may lead to denial of their disease and forgetfulness of events and/or experiences. This can
promote allegations of lying and manipulation which may lead to confusion for the undiagnosed DID
sufferer (MPD). Most patients, when they first enter treatment, most MPD victims are not aware of the
existence of other personalities. Other symptoms for DID include: the

Having a high GDP per capita means that there is current growth in the economy and tends to translate

The United States has been feeling the effects of Middle Eastern terrorism since June 5th, 1968, when
Sirhan Sirhan, a Palestinian acting alone, shot and killed Senator Robert F. Kennedy in response to
some pro Israeli statements he made (Eland 10). United States support for the newly formed Israel had
garnered a lot of hatred from native Palestinians, and Sirhan s attack marked the beginning of anti
American sentiment in the region. Starting with President Dwight D. Eisenhower, the United States

As for economic downturn, the lack of regulation and the failures of banks were both caused by the
Gulf Wars. The United States government was too focused upon military conflict outside of its borders
to pay attention to the loopholes that banks were using to make unwise lending decisions. The Gulf
Wars had a large economic impact on the United States and was the primary cause of the economic
downturn during both Bush administrations. American intervention in the Middle East drove up gas
prices to an all time high, resulting in billions of dollars lost. As Peter Katel said, In the week that the
[First Gulf War] started, the average world oil price was about $27 a barrel...[later oil prices] were
pushed up to prices upwards of $116 a barrel. (5). The money lost due to this alone ranged in the
hundreds of billions of dollars lost. As a result, the American economy took a staggering blow, and
was later felled by the economic cost of the war itself. The global increase in oil prices caused
inflation, leading to a massive increase in cost of living expenses. But, the American intervention in
the Middle East included larger and far more devastating expenses as well. For the first Gulf War, a
war that lasted a little over a hundred days cost upwards of $260 billion dollars ( Calculating 6). The
second Gulf War, or the Iraq War, was far more costly, as

Possibility Of ADHD
More and more parents pay attention to the problems of child mental illness as the rate of mental
disorder increased in children. But studies have shown that Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
(ADHD), one of the most common mental disorder in children and adolescents, might be
overdiagnosed in younger children compared to others in the same grade. The health news article Why
a child s birth date predicts whether they ll be medicated for ADHD that is published in The Sydney
Morning Herald discusses the ADHD diagnoses process and argues that the probability for the
youngest children in the class to get ADHD medication is significantly higher. The study shows that
children s immature behaviors may be misdiagnosed as symptoms of ADHD. The ... Show more

Although there is some systematic uncertainty of the research study, the article reveals the fact that
children s immature behavior can be detected as signals rather than noises, which in fact cause bias in
the diagnosis judgment. As a result, misdiagnosis or overdiagnosis in younger children may lead to
errors such as false positive and false negative. Detecting and distinguishing signal and noise may be
the most important when making an accurate diagnosis. Since the whole diagnosis is mostly based on
subjective factor, which is the behavior of the child, the accurate detection by the pediatrician and a
precise criteria of the diagnosis is required. In order to decrease the misdiagnosis of ADHD on
younger children, the recommendation is that before making a diagnosis judgement, try to make a
long time observation on not just the children s behavior, but also other influential factors such as
family background as the child grow up. As the accuracy of the diagnosis result improve, more
children, whether they have ADHD or not, will have a much better childhood experience and

Eastern, South Asian, Native American, or Other. As for religion, the individual may pick from
various options including Christian, Muslim, Roman Catholic, Jewish, Buddhist, Sikh, Atheist, or

Theory Z
Theory Z
Theory Z is a name applied to three distinctly different psychological theories. One was developed by
Abraham H. Maslow in his paper Theory Z and the other is Dr. William Ouchi s so called Japanese
Management style popularized during the Asian economic boom of the 1980s. The third was
developed by W. J. Reddin in Managerial Effectiveness (19 Situation guides) man: * Reason
motivates him. * Interdependence is man s primary mode of discourse. * Interaction is man s social
unit of importance.

The word Wa in Japanese can be applied to Theory Z because they both deal with promoting
partnerships and group work. The word Wa means a perfect circle or harmony, which influences
Japanese society to always be in teams and to come to a solution together. Promoting Theory Z and
the Japanese word Wa is how the Japanese economy became so powerful. And also because the
Japanese show a high level enthusiasm to work, some of the researchers claim that Z in the theory Z
stands for Zeal .
Ouchi wrote a book called Theory Z How American Business Can Meet the Japanese Challenge
(1981), in this book; Ouchi shows how American corporations can meet the Japanese challenges with
a highly effective management style that promises to transform business in the 1980 s. The secret to
Japanese success, according to Ouchi, is not technology, but a special way of managing people. This is
a managing style that focuses on a strong company philosophy, a distinct corporate culture, long range
staff development, and consensus decision making (Ouchi, 1981). Ouchi shows that the results show
lower turn over, increased job commitment, and dramatically higher productivity.
William Ouchi doesn t say that the Japanese culture for business is necessarily the best strategy for the
American companies but he takes Japanese business techniques and adapts them to the American
corporate environment. Much like McGregor s theories, Ouchi s Theory Z makes certain assumptions

Singaporean, he headed to Afghanistan for training, where he devoted his time and attention to gaining
knowledge of the Taliban system of governance in his early thirties. He was also suspected to have

Spread Of Confucianism
Confucius was a philosopher and scholar who spread Confucianism. His teachings focused on ethical
principles of both human interaction and harmony. Confucianism differed from other religions,
sometimes not even being considered a religion. Even so, it spread to other East Asian countries and
has influenced spiritual and political life. Confucians were meant to learn how to know and respect
themselves as they went about their daily lives. Confucius also believed that a ruler should learn self
discipline and treat his subjects with love and concern. Confucianism emphasized being spiritual, not
religious. Confucius followers studied the Six Arts, his philosophy of education, which included

My Love Of My Life
I started laughing like I d never laugh again in my life. A week ago, I sent a recording of my voice for
the audition for the Christmas duet and now I got the position for it. And my partner is James Brown!
He is the most charming person I could ever think of. His chocolate colored eyes always sparkled, and
his low manly voice would always melt my insides into a puddle of goo. Finally, I have a chance to
work with him; a chance to see my love of my life. The next day, I went to the music department at
my school with light, bouncy steps. When I went in the room the people inside were staring at me,
baffled. People whispered, as they gave me quick looks. Some gave me cold stares. I sat on the nearest
chair. The chair that was a little too small groaned under my weight. The people looked at empty
spaces, not knowing where to look at. Finally, James came to break the uncomfortable silence. During
break time I rushed to the bathroom. When I came back, I could hear the people talking. What do we
do with her? We can t put her on stage, we ll be a laughing stock, said one. Why don t we put her in
the backstage to sing and have another prettier girl to lip sync on stage? It s the best way out of this,
suggested another. But who s going to tell her this? There was no answer. I couldn t listen anymore. I
understood, they couldn t put me on stage because of my appearance. There were hardly any clothes

Intrinsic And Extrinsic Motivations
4. What motivates you extrinsically? What are your intrinsic motivations? How do you balance
extrinsic and intrinsic motivation in your life?
In terms of extrinsic motivations, I think that I am motivated by praise, reputation, and financial gain.
While money is not the most important aspect of a career, I would like to earn a salary that helps me
maintain a modest living. Being self aware, I realize that I want a career where I can help others,
which is an intrinsic motivation. This is another reason why I was unhappy in my accounting co op
position, because it was very difficult for me to accomplish tasks that didn t help others. As a result, I
wouldn t take a lucrative job offer if it didn t provide me with benevolent job responsibilities. In order
to balance my intrinsic and extrinsic motivations, I think that compromise is key. Since life s
challenges can interfere with one s morals, I realize that it may be difficult to compromise in certain
situations. However, I think that success in the business world ultimately stems from ethical actions,
because it will cultivate trust within your customers. As a result, my goal is to work for companies
who care about their stakeholders, because the results will pay off in the long run.
Not to sound like a millennial cliché, but I want my work to be meaningful for others and myself. This
objective stems from my intrinsic motivations, but praise from colleagues, superiors, and customers
will ensure that my work is meaningful.

A Conversation between Descartes and Searle
Descartes: One of my greatest powers is the ability to think, considering that it is essentially the only
thing that I am unable to doubt.
Searle: I partly agree to your statement, but I observe that you are inclined to ignore the concept of
technology and the wonders that it can perform. Furthermore, just as you are able to persuade other
individuals in thinking that they make decisions for themselves, it is probable that someone else
influences you and the decisions that you make without allowing you to understand that you are being
manipulated.
D: Oh, but I m afraid that you got the wrong impression regarding my thinking. I did not say that I
cannot be manipulated, as I simply claimed that me being able to doubt everything but my ability to
doubt is equivalent to me having free will. I will always be able to doubt things and this stands as
proof that my mind is different from my body as a consequence of the fact that it is thinking.
S: It is very likely that information that has been produced consequent to your death made it easier for
me to look at things and that I am better prepared to understand how the mind works. As I said, you
tend to ignore the fact that technology has advanced greatly and that the Age of Technology provides
individuals with a lot of information that they can use with the purpose of developing arguments to
support particular points of view.

The International Debate Over Resolving The Humanitarian...
This paper will examine the recent terrorist attacks in Paris, perpetrated by the self proclaimed Islamic
State. This paper will analyze and discuss the implications that the events in Paris will have on the
international community s course of action on the current turmoil in Syria and Iraq. As a result of this
further analysis, this paper argues three main points. First, the severity of the attack will demand a
fundamental shift in the level of aggressiveness that Western powers are willing to show against a
pseudo state actor like ISIS. Second, France s recent invocation of the Mutual Defense clause of the
European Union Constitution signals a possible shift in the role of large scale international
organizations in their treatment of member states. Finally, this paper will argue that these attacks
signal a negative shift in the international debate over resolving the humanitarian crisis in Syria,
resulting in stricter immigration policies within Western countries. While final confirmation has been
difficult to obtain, public officials have stated that there were at least 129 individuals killed and 350
non fatal injuries from multiple attacks orchestrated by militant, Islamic terrorists who were either
radicalized French or Belgium citizens. These individuals pledged themselves to ISIS, but were unable
to emigrate from their host countries due to increased border control measures. In the lead up to the
Paris attacks, European and Middle Eastern states were faced with the

The Japanese Informal Rule Over China Between The First...
The high degree of importance of an informal empire to the well being of the formal one is not always
as apparent as people initially think. Informal empires can be compared to an iceberg, which is larger
under the water level and therefore the actual base without which the whole iceberg would go down
(Duus et al., 1989). The case of the Japanese informal rule over China between the First and Second
Sino Japanese Wars is an example of how this type of rule was immensely beneficial to the expansion
of the Japanese empire itself. There are three main things that Japan and the colonies of Japan profited
from: economically important trade and investment on Chinese soil, having great political influence

With the creation of the informal empire the Japanese started exporting tons of goods for China s vast
population and importing raw materials and resources which were valuable for the Japanese Empire
and its expansion. They also gained rights over the Manchuria Railways and different cotton mills.
Japan benefitted more from the trade in China that the other foreigners there because of the proximity
of the two so the shipping costs were lower for Japanese manufacturers than for goods shipped from
the West (Duus et al., 1989, p.xiii).
At first, maintaining an informal empire was seen as a better alternative than annexing China, in order
for Japan to avoid paying the high cost of annexation and maintenance and incurring the wrath of the
anti Japanese patriots. Because China and Japan had cultural similarities it was easier for the Chinese
to accept the Japanese presence in their country: it may well be that this greater familiarity with
Chinese culture gave advantages to Japanese enterprises that the Western firms did not enjoy (Duus et
al., 1989, p.9). As the instability had weakened the Chinese government, in 1915 Japan saw that as the
perfect opportunity to impose further demands (The Twenty One Demands), even though they did not
gain much of it and ruined their relationships with the British and the Americans. Therefore, the
Japanese became more and more dependent on China and eventually the Japanese grew

January 26, 2014
Abstract
The analyses of mixture were to distinguish and identify homogeneous mixture by using the
techniques of decantation and sublimation. By performing these techniques, we examined our
solutions such as SiO2 (sand), NH4Cl (ammonium chloride), and NaCl (sodium chloride) and mixed
H2O (water) with each solution after being heated. After examining our solutions, we made
calculations by finding the percent mass of each solution once the experiment was completed. In our
findings, we were able to determine the mass of the determined and the percent recovery of matter.

II. Methods
A. Preliminary Steps
1. Obtain a sample of the mixture. The mixture you will separate contains three components: NaCl,
NH4Cl, and SiO2. Their separation will be accomplished by heating the mixture to sub lime the
NH4Cl, extracting the NaCl with water, and drying the remaining SiO2.
2. Obtain an evaporating dish and carefully weigh it to the nearest 0.01g on top of the loading scale
and record its mass on the data sheet.
3. Place about 3g of the mixture into the evaporating dish and carefully weigh it to the nearest 0.01g
with the top loading scale and record its mass on the data sheet.
4. Determine the mass of the mixture by subtracting the mass of the empty evaporating dish from the
mass of the evaporating dish containing the mixture and record the calculated mass onto the data
sheet.
B. Sublimation Steps
1. Place the beaker containing the mixture on the hot plate and heat until the white fumes no longer
form (about 15 minutes) during the sublimation process.
2. Allow the beaker to cool until it reaches room temperature; then weigh the beaker with the
contained solid. The loss in mass represents the amount of NH4Cl in your

Dream Of The Rood
A poem is a piece or writing that joins nature of speech that almost always is rhythmical,
metaphorical, and exhibits formal elements as meter, rhyme, and stanzaic structure . I think this is a
poem it uses these elements throughout the story. Instead of using the simple word Christ, the poet
calls Jesus the young hero and the warrior. The poet avoids mentioning Christ s inability to shoulder
the weight of the cross. This departure from biblical accounts of the crucifixion was also found in
medieval art. Presenting Christ as a warrior impregnable to fatigue and weakness, the poet shows that
Christ was an ultimate hero. The The Dream of the Rood s description of Christ s burial also reflects
the unique image of Christ in medieval times. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no
one had ever been laid. Because it was the Jewish day of Preparation and since the tomb was nearby,
they laid Jesus there. The dream vision uses strong images of Christ in order to reach members of the
Anglo Saxon warrior culture, who valued strength above humility. This may have been a deliberate
strategy to convert pagans to Christianity. It also reflects how the image of Jesus was adapted to suit
different cultures. What makes this such a highly regarded literary text? The Dream of the Rood is
seen as one of the finest short religious poems in the Old English period. The poem has been the
subject of literary and historical study for generations and different people has seen it different ways.
The Dream of the Rood also provides a valuable window into early Christian England. The poem was
first discovered on the Ruthwell Cross, a large stone carving dating to the early eighteenth century.

The first type is a viral vector, which is a genetically altered virus that specifically targets injury sites.
Here the genes that are used by the virus to duplicate themselves are detached and substituted with the
anticipated growth factor gene. Viral vector systems remain the most efficient vehicles to achieve long
term stable gene expression in the CNS (Bower, 2011). Afterwards the virus attaches itself to the
injured targets using receptors. Next, viral and/or cellular proteins will allocate the genetic code
(rDNA) for the wanted growth factor within the cytoplasm and into the nucleus. Manifestation of the
growth factor by the genetically transformed target cells can promptly be commenced.
Other ways to introduce growth factors are the use of non viral vectors, like genetically modified
liposomes. The reason non viral vectors are sometimes more preferred is due to the fact that they are
safer, in the sense that they possess lower toxicity and are simpler to concoct that viral vectors.
Although they are safer they have far lesser efficiency in terms of gene transfer, which is a
fundamental element in the achievement of the procedure. The reason gene transfer isn t more
prominent and all over the place is simply due to the fact is the presence of unproductive transfer
vectors, and that is why finding a safer more efficient way of vector transferring

I am planning to become a network and computer systems administrator. One of the reasons that I
selected this career path is that I stand working in this field and feel that I have strong skills and
background information. I started in the Information Technology field in 2008 as a System Support
Specialist for a University in Pakistan. I have always liked Computers and networking and how it
works and, when I caught the opportunity to apply for a job in this field I applied for it. My Diploma
in Information Technology from Pakistan facilitated myself to understand the basics of computers and
Networking. I expanded my technical and troubleshooting skills and obtained a job as a Help desk
specialist in the United States and I want to become a Network Administrator in the future.
The purpose of my interview is to study the impact of a Network administrator in the IT industry, and
to do this I set up an interview with one of my colleague Michael Pham, Network and Systems
administrator. He is 32 years of age and 5 feet 9 inches tall. He has diminutive eyes and muscular

Comparing The Pilgrim s Progress And Paradise Lost
Comparing The Pilgrim s Progress and Paradise Lost, Two Works Focused on Salvation Two
influential pieces of English literature, both focusing on the topic of salvation, are The Pilgrim s
Progress, written by John Bunyan in 1678 (2269), and Paradise Lost, composed in the previous decade
by poet John Milton in 1667 (1945). While these two works both pay special attention to mankind s
preoccupation with being saved, they differ vastly from one another in the language and literary style
used in each respective piece, the way in which salvation itself is portrayed, and also in how the
salvation of each story s characters is determined through their resistance to temptation and the state
of their relationship with God. Before even mentioning the content of the works themselves, it
becomes immediately evident that the writing styles of The Pilgrim s Progress and Paradise Lost are
near polar opposites of one another. For example, in The Pilgrim s Progress, author John Bunyan
writes in a simple prose style, which is relatively easy for most to comprehend. In contrast, John
Milton, in Paradise Lost, employs a complicated, original poetic style that is the first of its kind. In
using some Latin words and phrases while employing a rhyme scheme commonplace in Latin poetry,
Milton is able to construct an eloquent, highly polished language in this piece. However, in still using
English as the poem s primary language, Milton is still able to effectively communicate its theme to

notable impact among the Russian people as well as Russia. Grigory Efimovich, better known as
Rasputin, was born in the town of Pokrovskoe in 1871.
The name Rasputin means dissolute, for his tireless pursuit of girls, and crossroads, in which his town
was located between. He had a dual reputation of second sight from the beginning. It was said that he

Alexis was born with a rare disease called hemophilia. This meant that when Alexis began to bleed he
would bleed uncontrollably and it could not be stopped. Rasputin treated Alexis as if he were his
nanny, reading him stories, curing his headaches, but most importantly, controlling his bleeding. It was
said that all that Rasputin had to do was merely tell him that it will stop and somehow, without any
explanation for the occurrence, the bleeding would stop. However Rasputin managed to stop Alexis
suffering, the truth of the matter was that he gained Nicholas and Alexandra s undivided support and it
gave him immense power. Czar Nicholas listened to his wife so Rasputin began to tell Alexandra what
is to happen in the country. She in turn listened to him and told her husband everything. Although
Rasputin was nearly an uneducated man, he found a seat in the Duma and was elected in 1912. He
became an important political figure. In1913, the Czar pushed towards rigid antagonism toward the
Duma, Rasputin and the Czarina urged him to dissolve it altogether or at least take away all of its real
power. 1913 was also the 300th anniversary of the Romanov Dynasty and the importance of the Duma
was intentionally slighted. Rasputin, in an act of defiance, sat in a seat set aside for the Duma. The
president of the Duma bodily threw him out of the Kazan Cathedral. The 1st image shows Rasputin as
an evil influence with control over the Czar

Keys to Win the Cola War with Innovative Marketing Strategies
Product Mix: Key to Winning the Cola War Pepsi and Coca Cola have stood the test of time through
one of the strongest competition rivalries ever seen in the business world. Each time that one of these
beverage giants makes an innovative move to conquer a new or existing beverage market, the other is
quick to respond with even better innovations or products. Through the years, each of these companies
have heralded fabulous discoveries and absolute flops as they continued their endless search for the
right mix of products that might someday give them the largest market share in an ever growing and
ever needed market. The results so far have been increased competitiveness and long product lines for
both companies. In this essay, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pepsi and Coke have also been targeting this growing consumer market in their soda lines with new
innovations of low or no carb drinks such as Pepsi Edge3 and Coke s C24, as well as reinvigorations
of their already no carb diet drinks. So where do the sports drinks fit into this low carb craze? The
answer is they don t. Each of these sports drinks is packed with enough carbohydrates to equal a liquid
potato, making them nothing but a memory for people whose daily carb intake is down to 20 60
grams.5 Thus, we have a void in the beverage market that is not being filled. Further deepening this
void is the fact that people losing weight tend to be more active, craving something besides water or
diet soda after their workouts. This is a perfect example of how a shift in product mix for either
company could give them distinct competitive advantage. By simply creating a no carb line of
Gatorade or PowerAde sports drinks, the company will have altered its product mix and filled the
market void with brand loyal users, adding to the overall market resiliency and strength of the parent
company.6 Further analysis of this product line could also reveal strong needs for having different
strengths of sports drinks for different levels of activity (i.e. zero carbs for slightly active, 15 grams of
carbs for moderately active, and up to 120 grams for marathon runners) enabling a kind of mass
customization to ensure that the product line can suit any and all

Women s Inequality In Honduras
Throughout history, women have been viewed as the inferior sex. Due to this, women have faced
discrimination all over the world. This has had many negative impacts on the lives women, one of
these being on their health. Poor health in women is often associated with domestic and sexual
violence, cultural and religious oppression, and lack of access to education, as well as many other
factors. One of the most delicate things that a woman can go through is pregnancy. Many women
around the world have to give birth without the assistance of a professional and die during childbirth
or during the 48 hour period after. Many of these deaths can be avoided if the appropriate measures
were to be taken. The Republic of Honduras believes that action must be taken to improve the health
of women globally. Health is a fundamental right of every human being and should not be denied to
women. In the Republic of Honduras violence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Sex Change In The Bees And The Birds
In The Bees and the Birds chapter of Biological Exuberance, Bruce Bagemihl describes transsexuality
in animals as physically becoming the opposite sex (Bagemihl 37). There are a variety of terms to
describe transsexuality in animals, for instance, protogynous sex change is the transition from a
female to male, while protandrous sex change is the transition from a male to female (Bagemihl 40).
Males who have not undergone a sex change are primary males, while those who have are secondary.
These transitions are very common among different species of animals, and some examples are the
Parrotfish and the Magenta Dottyback. These dramatic changes can be due to the effect of chemicals,
physical maturity, or environmental factors.

2013). This is very rare as it only occurs in 25 species, and most species are only either protogynous
or protandrous. To confirm the bidirectionally sex changing abilities in the Magenta Dottyback, the
Kuwamura et al. conducted an experiment where they either released same sex individuals at a site or
removed them. A total of 9 males and 21 females were collected from Patch A, while 18 males and 50
females were collected from Patch B (Kuwamura et al. 2013). They were able to confirm their
hypothesis with a total of six sex changes. The researchers suggested that sex changes could be the
result of an environmental factor. In the Magenta Dottyback, males are generally larger, while females
are smaller. If there are a group of males, some males will have more mating opportunities than others
because they are larger. In that cases, smaller males may find it more advantageous to because a
female because females are generally smaller, and the same goes for female to male transitions

How Children View Apologies
Apologies are very important and quite powerful in societies. People vary in how they view apologies,
specifically, children compared to adults. Children and adults are very different considering their
emotional development and it plays a large role in how they view apologies. Previous research on
apologies targeted adults, so there is not much known on how children view them. This is why Smith,
Chen, and Harris (2010) conducted a study focusing on how children view apologies on an emotional
level. The two emotional functions they studied was how a transgressor expressed their remorse and
the victim s alleviation of upset feelings after a moral transgression took place.
Smetana (1981) defined a moral transgression as, a transgression involving ... Show more content on

(2010) formulated many hypotheses which were the starting point in discovering the missing
information on this subject. They were first concerned with what the children s attributions would be
like to the transgressor, depending on whether they apologized or not. A study, that did not involve an
apology, was done by Nunner Winkler Sodian (1988) where they had discovered that 4 year olds
attributed positive emotions while 8 year olds were more likely to attribute negative feelings. Smith et
al. (2010) used the data from this happy victimizer study into consideration when formulating their
own hypothesis. They expected that when there was no apology given, young children would attribute
positive feelings, but older children would attribute mixed feelings. They came to this assumption for
the younger children because they focus mainly on whether the transgressor fulfilled their desire or
not. So, if they did fulfill it, they would attribute positive feelings. Which follows the happy victimizer
expectancy. Although Nunner Winkler Sodian (1998) found that older children attribute negative
feelings, they expected them to attribute mixed feelings for several reasons. Firstly, Arsenio Kramer
(1992) found 6 to 8 year olds to have mixed feelings; secondly, Nunner Winkler Sodain (1998) claim
that older children focus on the feelings of the transgressor about causing upset or harm when
attributing emotions. Also, they believed the happy victimizer expectancy would

A Report on the BMW Group Essay
A Report on the BMW Group
Introduction
As a result of the increased demand of cars, the competition among car companies is becoming
intense. Although the market of car is the biggest growing market in the world, there are still some
companies who make cars failing year after year. However, there are some outstanding car companies
such as The BMW Group performing distinctly.
The history of BMW is one of ground breaking innovations and exceptional automobiles, including
motorcycles and aircraft engines. It has a history with people of vision and of pioneering creation in
the world of aviation engineering. Already we can begin to see that the BMW group is a well known
and significant player in its market.
BMW was founded in 1916 as an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main driving force behind the decision of BMW to turn to globalization was competition from
global companies in Germany, the United States and Japan who are major competitors in the luxury
segment. The automobile industry is highly globalised with many major manufactures operating all
over the world. Automobiles built in one region are sold, with necessary changes, around the world.
The main force for global convergence was the virtual disappearance of the national manufactures
being squeezed out by the international giants and the standardization of markets across international
boundaries. Forced by international regulatory bodies at regional level and fuelled by ever more
intensive global communication.
Innovation
THE BMW Group, as one of the world s most innovative companies, shows that Germany still leads
the global field as a centre of innovation, says German Federal Minister Wolfgang Clement, who is
patron of the award.
BMW try to innovate new ways to stay ahead of their competitors. They designed a new
manufacturing plant where the cars would move down the assembly line on an independently powered
gantry. The new technology would produce sound waves so that collisions can be avoided, thus
reducing the need for more workers and also reducing the risk of unwanted accidents in the plant.
The BMW Group is conducting research into systems that optimize the interaction between driver, car
and environment in

Alexander IIi Of Macedonia Truly Worthy Of The Title Essay
Was Alexander III of Macedonia really worthy of the title Great or was he just a megalomaniac
conditioned into this belief by his followers? Well, if you consider his military legacy which is almost
as large as the swath of territory he conquered spanning from modern day Greece to northern India, or
the fact that his over 2,000 year old combat tactics are still being taught at military academies the
world over, I don t believe the word great would be too far from imagination. When Alexander rose to
power following the death of his father, Phillip II, his kingdom of Macedonia encompassed all of the
land that we know as modern Greece. For Alexander this was not enough. Phillip II is believed to have
prophesized s his son s ambitions with the words, My son you must find a kingdom big enough for
your ambition. Macedon is too small for you. after Alexander tamed his wild buck Bucephalas at age
10. Born around July 20th, 356 BC to King Phillip II and one of his favorite wives, Olympias,
Alexander was believed to be destined for greatness from the start. Many tall tales about his birth
origin circulated throughout and after his life including his personal claim of descent from Achilles
and Zeus. After enjoying a leisurely life as the child of a noble family, he began his tutelage under
Aristotle at the age of 13. His father, Phillip II was frequently absent from Macedonia on long
conquest campaigns that eventually unified most of the Greek cities under his rule. In his

When looking to teach in an security environment it soon becomes clear that there are many other
things to consider other than just taking a group of students for a lesson, not least the The Health and
safety at work act 1974 protecting others against risks to health and safety in connection with the
activities taking place. Taking into account one s own behaviour and responsibilities as a teacher,
ensuring the safety of the students within the classroom or work place. See appendix 2 The Data
Protection Act 1998 also has an impact on working life and habits within the security sector. In your
role in lifelong learning you will therefore need to adhere to legislation outlined above. There are
many more legislations that I have to be aware of while teaching. It is important that I keep up to date
with these legislations and part of my responsibility is to make sure that they are been adhered to and I

  • 2. Advantage Of Competitive Federalism The principle of federalism was introduced to ensure the government did not possess too much power over a nation. The implementation of federalism allowed for a compromise to be made between the states and national government. This compromise ensured that power was divided among the states and the national government. Federalism remained very limited, much like boundaries to ensure overstepping did not occur. The overall explanation for the principle of federalism and its origin dates back to the need of a strong centralized government. Of course, federalism corrected the decentralized powers and created a fair system to abide by that focused on the importance of division of power and centralized government. There are various forms of federalism, one of which being competitive federalism. According to Dr. Michael Greve, competitive federalism seeks to discipline governments. It seeks to discipline governments by allowing each government to compete for their citizen s business. The concept of competitive federalism enables choice and change. Competitive federalism is not confined to one government at all. Conversely, it allows for citizens to pick and choose which government they wish to live under. There are benefits associated with competitive federalism which can include various forms of innovation, product differentiation, choice of the consumers, and other services. Federalism definitely empowers citizens because ultimately, they have the most say in what they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most of my inspiration was taken from unstructured climax after climax leading into long downtime stories. My writing reflected that of one who knew the focus but got into details too much leading to a whole story based on the details not the main topic. Eventually i learned strategies that made my writing grow a seed into roots. Towards my seventh grade year my ability to dream through my writing and invision where i wanted my writing to go grew into a healthy stem. My writing started to be quality stable and intresting pieces to read. I started to use a thesaurus more to better articulate myself. I spent a lot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Sterilization Laws Of The United States Sterilization legislature was enacted on the state level with the goal of physically preventing the procreation of individuals deemed to be unfit, mainly handicapped persons or criminals. Though the nature of these laws did not outright target certain races or social classes, a disproportionate amount of the individuals sterilized were non white or of immigrant background. Prominent eugenicists and eugenic organizations in the U.S. played a key role in lobbying for state sterilization laws. Harry H. Laughlin, superintendent of the Eugenics Record Office, drafted the American Model Eugenical Sterilization Law in 1922, which served as a model for many sterilizations laws in the states (Berenbaum, 1998). By 1926, 23 states had passed sterilization laws that were voluntary and/or involuntary in nature (Sofair, 2000). Laughlin and other eugenicists called for the sterilization of institutionalized individuals under the assertion that their genetically inferior traits would be passed to their progeny and be an economic drain on the state. Many states complied, and by 1935 over 30 states had some form of sterilization law with over 21,000 compulsory sterilizations performed (Allen 1997). Though the eugenic nature of these laws was stressed by eugenicists, it was acknowledged that the political support of such laws were greatly financially motivated. Another important legislation passed by the U.S. was the Immigration Restriction Act of 1924, which was the first immigration quota ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Incas and Aztecs Essay Incas and Aztecs Like the Athenians and Spartans of ancient Greece, the Inca and the Aztec bear resemblance to the two other ancient cultures. The Athenians and Incas were both more interested in developing their Arts as well as their military, but both the Spartans and the Aztecs were highly interested more so in warfare than religion. Although the Aztec and Inca never had to face each other, it is interesting to compare them because of their dominant positions of extremely large and powerful tribes. I am going to compare and contrast religion and the social system along with their system of government, which can be put together. The Inca and Aztec were both extremely religious. Their entire lives revolved around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They believed in good and evil things and saw omens in many things such as rainbows, falling stars, and the hoot of an owl. They believed that Viracocha was the most important god of all. He was similar to Omelecuhtli, the Aztec god. He was the creator of the Sun, Moon, and Stars that were all seen as gods. The Sun was the life giver and was the most important server of Viracocha. He watched over the crops and was the father of the Emperor. His image was a human face surrounded by rays of flowing hair. The Moon was the wife of the Sun. It was believed that an eclipse was the result a great serpent or mountain lion trying to eat her. To frighten off the creatures, they would point their weapons at the moon and start screaming and shouting at it. The constellations, or Stars, all had duties assigned to them by Viracocha. For example, Pleiades had the job of looking over the seeds in the fields, and Lyra, which looked like a llama, looked after the herds. They also worshipped some other gods such as Thunder, the god of weather, who was an important deity. He was pictured as a man with a war club and a sling in the other hand. Thunder and lightning came from the sling and he drew rain from the Milky Way. Farmers worshipped the Earth Mother and fishermen worshipped that Mother Sea. The Aztec and Inca both had very different beliefs for the afterlife. The Aztec, like most Indians, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Rudolf Lab The Theorist, The Theory And The Context Part 1: The theorist, The Theory and The Context Rudolf Laban, a brilliant acting theorist, inspires many individuals, groups of actors and performers all over the world to this day. His progressive acting theories mold an individual into a character effortlessly and effectively. Although his ideas were not always appreciated, his critics only pushed him to better his techniques. Rudolf Laban was born on December 15th, 1879, in Bratislava, which used to be part of the Austro Hungarian Empire. His Father, a highly decorated Officer in the Army, hoped that Rudolf would follow in his footsteps; however, Rudolf found himself intrigued with the complexity of the arts. He studied art and acting at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. While ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rudolf Laban died at the age of 78 on July 1st 1998, in the United Kingdom. Furthermore, Rudolf Laban s theories focus primarily on movement. His movements are specific to what the actor intends on portraying. Not only so, but the movement of the actor would in turn directly reflect the character s personality. He believed every movement performed displayed a greater purpose to internally reflect on one s character. Thus, His movement theories help an actor to bring out the individuality of each character portrayed in a performance or dance. Part 2: Practical Explorations and Development of the Solo Theatre Piece For this solo piece, I chose to incorporate Laban s theories into an interpretive dance. I display, not two different characters movements, but one character s movements as he/she develops, learns, and grows throughout his/her lifetime. To do so, I will use shadows in the background to interact with the character in order to allow the audience to better comprehend my actions and movements throughout the song. As the actor, I conform to the story line and the character I am portraying by my movements and interactions with the shadows projected onto the backdrop of the stage. As I prepared for this performance, I found it difficult to incorporate the movement patterns of two characters, due to the fact that it is specifically a solo piece rather than a duet or ... While this book is not written around a specific battle or event of World War 2, it portrays events such as Jewish holding camps, German soldiers patrolling within the Netherlands, and how the black market had an impact on the people in the war. The main character, Hanneke, has multiple run ins with the German policemen within her town. There were many different types of police patrolling Amsterdam around this time, two of the types commonly seen being the Green Police and the Gestapo. The Luftwaffe was the German aerial warfare branch of the military forces during World War II; however, ten percent of the Luftwaffe s strength was still used as ground units. Nazi philosophy viewed the Dutch Christians as one of the Aryan races, a racial grouping for people of European and Western Asian heritage, which qualified them to be Germanized while the Dutch Jews were subjected to the same mistreatment as Jews in other nations occupied by Germany. • 8. Comparison of Ancient Mesopotamian and Egyptian Art The artworks of Ancient Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt are both strikingly different and similar at the same time. Consistent is the theme of serving the different gods the two cultures believed in. In Mesopotamia the various city states each had their own protective deity, and in Egypt they sometimes differed from one dynasty to the next. Whatever the case, with the beginning of kingdoms and rulership came the need to justify a position of power and establish a hierarchy. And as more time passed came also the human need to leave an impression on their world. Looking at the example of the statues of Gudea from the Neo Sumerian period and the Temple of Ramses II from the New Kingdom of Egypt in the 19th dynasty, will show how both rulers of ... Each statue stands 67 feet high and depicts Ramses seated on his throne, wearing the double crown of Upper and Lower Egypt. Adorning the sides of the thrones is the symbolic unification of Egypt by the Nile Gods. The whole upper body of one of the figures is destroyed, damaged by an ancient earthquake. You can still see the remains of the torso and head at the base near the feet. Statues of Ramses mother Mut Tuy, principal wife Nefertari, and son, Prince Amonherkhepshef, stand at his sides, almost as high as his knees, and smaller statues between his legs are thought to represent either his daughters or lesser wives. The frieze topping the temple facade shows 22 baboons worshipping the sun. The recessed statue above the entrance is that of the falcon headed Ra Harakhti (associated with Horus) and is flanked by two Bas reliefs of Ramses, presumably worshipping him. • 9. Emily Dickinson Snake Emily Dickinson is highly recognized as being one of the best American poets to ever write. Her legacy lives on through her many published poems and some of her poems that I am sure were lost. When reading Dickinson s work for the first time, some people can interpret her as a stuffy woman who never left the house. But, when you dig deeper into her poems and letters it is revealed that Dickinson was full of whit, sarcasm, and somewhat weird sexual tendencies (weird tendencies for the time period, not so weird in today s society.) A narrow Fellow in the Grass is one of Dickinson s many great poems. This poem is full of layers of meaning, with every aspect of the poem drawing in the reader s attention. The strange wording, the dashes, the question ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my opinion the snake represents the same thing that it does in the Bible, sin and corruption. In many literary works a snake is represented as sin and I do not think that is any different in this poem. In the Bible the snake is seen as the one who tempts Eve in the Garden of Eden. The devil manifests himself into the shape of a snake which could be the very thing Dickinson was trying to represent through the snake in this poem. Dickinson s background through church could definitely be a reason that she would portray the snake in that way. The speaker in this poem is also symbolic. The speaker is an important element because right in the middle of the poem is when we learn that the speaker is a man, not a woman. Up until that point I assumed that the speaker was a woman because the poet was a woman. A woman or girl could just as easily come upon the same situation with the snake as the boy does, so why is it important that the speaker is a man? I think throughout the whole poem Dickinson uses a heavy amount of personification for the same reason she let us know in the middle of the poem that the speaker was a male. I think she wanted us to see that not everything is as it appears to be. Throughout the poem we have the confusion of the snake as being a snake or a Fellow , the snake being a snake or a whip, and the speaker being one with nature or the snake being a disturbing event. I think Dickinson uses the speaker as another device to remind the reader that just because something looks a certain way in the beginning does not mean it will be the same in the end. The way Dickinson used the setting is another way she tricked the reader into thinking things were one way when they were actually not. In the beginning of the poem the setting is that of an open field, then the reader learns of a boy who is actually the speaker. This completely changes the setting because now the reader is actually in a conversion about the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Cultural Tension In Rocky IV And Office Space Throughout history, Americans have dealt with cultural and social tensions in a number of ways. For several decades, the nation was manipulated by fear and paranoia as the shadow of Soviet influence continued to loom large in everyone s life. Rocky IV (1985) is an American sports film written by, directed, and starring Sylvester Stallone. Rocky IV tells the story of world champion American boxer Rocky Balboa (Stallone) seeking to avenge the death of a friend and defend his country s honor by daring to travel to the Soviet Union and fight their best athlete on enemy soil. Director Mike Judge s 1999 comedy film Office Space depicts a different kind of enemy in modern America, as it satirizes the daily grind of a typical software company and its disgruntled employees in the 1990s. By incorporating real world elements of cultural tension, immersing the viewer into an all too familiar environment, and mirroring the mentality of society during their respective times, Rocky IV and Office Space effectively inspire and educate each viewer in their own unique ways. ... • 11. Analysis of the Fallout New Vegas Video Game Fallout New Vegas takes place in post nuclear Las Vegas, where the New California Republic (NCR) and Caesars Legion are battling it out for control of the strip. You are a random courier who wakes up in the small town of New Springs after being shot in the head. After being patched up, you set off into the Mojave to find out who shot you. When Fallout New Vegas was announced, I was not interested in it at all. I had never heard of the Fallout games beforehand, and it just seemed like a very generic shooter. Was I ever wrong. Fallout New Vegas is now one of my favourite games of all time. The most amazing thing about Fallout New Vegas is the atmosphere. The game has a very nineteen fifty s style to it. In the more civilized parts of New Vegas people walk around with the elvis style jackets and the flowing skirts that were popular in the 50 s. There is also an optional in game radio which belts out popular fifties and sixties tunes from the likes of Nat King Cole and Dean Martin. It all really makes you feel like you re actually there. Another thing that makes Fallout New Vegas great is overall game play. The game is a mix between a shooter and a role playing game. The game takes place from a first person perspective and your character generally uses guns and laser weapons, but you also level up. When you level up you get experience points to upgrade different skills like your ability to fix things or your speaking skills. If you want to be able to talk ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rhetorical Analysis Of Trump s Inaugural Address When a president makes his inauguration speech, it usually talks about what is going on with the country, and illustrates what will be done to fix it. Compared to his predecessors, Trump s speech was much shorter. I am convinced that he thought that he best thing to do was play it safe in the speech to save himself from all the criticism that he could. This did not however work out in his favor for the reason that he might have said more about his presidency by saying less. Trump opened his speech, not talking about what previous presidents accomplished, instead just acknowledged and thanked them. • 14. Analyzing Themes Throughout Edgar Allen Poe s Short Stories Andrew Diamond Guadagnino English 3 11/12/16 Themes Throughout Edgar Allen Poe s Stories Edgar Allen Poe exhibits many different themes throughout his poems and short stories, most readers see his stories as consistently and exclusively putting death at the fore front in themes but there are countless other themes that Poe puts in his stories and poems. These themes include love, uncertainty, subconscious self, nature, human imagination, hope and despair so one can see that Poe is not as death oriented as many people think and say he is. The first theme I will be focusing on in this evaluation is death, Poe wrote many if not most of his short stories and poems focusing on death for example in Eldorado the main character can only fulfill his goals through dying, another example is The Raven where the main character is increasingly focused on imminent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the story Telltale Heart the narrator for nights on end ponders in detail of how he will kill the old man who is living in his house while trying to explain how he has not lost his own sanity this depiction of the human imagination ties directly into Poe s theme of death because he not only thinks about how he will kill he old man but inevitably kills the old man and hides him under the floor boards of his home. Nature, this theme is an underlying one and is not easily picked out of his stories yet the connection can still be made, in the short story The City in the Sea the city that had once prospered inevitably gets destroyed and sinks to hell, this gives the reader the idea that Poe does not like urbanized life and prefers nature. To support this idea, you can also make the connection that many of the Protagonists in Poe s stories and poems wander around in forests and other natural areas to discover something about their selves and have an epiphany you could call it like in the story ... • 15. The Oath Of The Black Hand Society Essay Origin: The oath sworn by all new members entering the Black Hand Society is a primary source found in a Serbian Press website (press online). The oath was written and signed by Dimitrijevic in 1911 in Belgrade, the kingdom of Serbia. Purpose: The oath sworn on by the future members provides an in depth look at what each member had to swear by in order to be accepted into the society. This oath furthermore encapsulates the solemnity of the organization and to what extent each member would go to devote themselves to nationalism and the organisation s ideals. The creation of this oath ensured that members of the group would not betray the secrecy of the society and furthermore, since the wording of the oath is so stringent, future members were aware of the extent of devotion necessary and the consequences that come with not obeying the ideals of the group. Value: The tone of the oath suggests the kind of goals the organisation pursued to achieve. In addition to this, the secrecy mentioned in the oath relates to the fundamental aspects of terrorism and helps answer the investigative question. Limitations: The oath of a secret society may be altered as time passes. Furthermore, if a society is secret to such a large extent, the oath available to the public can lack pieces of information regarding the society as facts may be omitted for the sake of the group s security. This source may contain some bias as the document was written by the leader of the Black Hand society and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

First part tells the story of the Tallis Family in 1935. The two main characters, Cecilia and Robbie, are in love but Cecilia s younger sister, Briony, does not like the idea of them two being together. They had cousins living with them at the time. One evening the twin cousins went missing and everybody was out searching for them. Briony stumbles across a man who has apparently raped Lola. It showed that the Germans were heartless. The battle of Dunkirk was a fight between Germany and the allies. The Germans trapped British and French armies on the beaches of Dunkirk. There were about 330,000 men that were trapped. The beach was unable to allow large boats to get near where the actual men were. Smaller boats were brought in where men boarded on and then soon after got transferred to a larger boat. There were about 800 little ships that were used to save these men that were trapped. Although there were numerous amounts of casualties, the evacuation was a boost for the British and it gave confidence to the allies to keep fighting. DID is associated with two or more distinct identities, or personality states, that reside in and alternately take control of an individual. The person s behavior is determined by the personality that is dominant at a given time. The person also experiences memory loss that is too extensive to be explained by ordinary forgetfulness. A victim that survives with DID will endure lost time (amnesia) or black out spells, which may lead to denial of their disease and forgetfulness of events and/or experiences. United States support for the newly formed Israel had garnered a lot of hatred from native Palestinians, and Sirhan s attack marked the beginning of anti American sentiment in the region. In terms of extrinsic motivations, I think that I am motivated by praise, reputation, and financial gain. While money is not the most important aspect of a career, I would like to earn a salary that helps me maintain a modest living. Being self aware, I realize that I want a career where I can help others, which is an intrinsic motivation. This is another reason why I was unhappy in my accounting co op position, because it was very difficult for me to accomplish tasks that didn t help others. As a result, I wouldn t take a lucrative job offer if it didn t provide me with benevolent job responsibilities. In order to balance my intrinsic and extrinsic motivations, I think that compromise is key. Since life s challenges can interfere with one s morals, I realize that it may be difficult to compromise in certain situations. However, I think that success in the business world ultimately stems from ethical actions, because it will cultivate trust within your customers. This paper will analyze and discuss the implications that the events in Paris will have on the international community s course of action on the current turmoil in Syria and Iraq. As a result of this further analysis, this paper argues three main points. First, the severity of the attack will demand a fundamental shift in the level of aggressiveness that Western powers are willing to show against a pseudo state actor like ISIS. Second, France s recent invocation of the Mutual Defense clause of the European Union Constitution signals a possible shift in the role of large scale international organizations in their treatment of member states. Finally, this paper will argue that these attacks signal a negative shift in the international debate over resolving the humanitarian crisis in Syria, resulting in stricter immigration policies within Western countries. While final confirmation has been difficult to obtain, public officials have stated that there were at least 129 individuals killed and 350 non fatal injuries from multiple attacks orchestrated by militant, Islamic terrorists who were either radicalized French or Belgium citizens. Informal empires can be compared to an iceberg, which is larger under the water level and therefore the actual base without which the whole iceberg would go down (Duus et al., 1989). The case of the Japanese informal rule over China between the First and Second Sino Japanese Wars is an example of how this type of rule was immensely beneficial to the expansion of the Japanese empire itself. With the creation of the informal empire the Japanese started exporting tons of goods for China s vast population and importing raw materials and resources which were valuable for the Japanese Empire and its expansion. Japan benefitted more from the trade in China that the other foreigners there because of the proximity of the two so the shipping costs were lower for Japanese manufacturers than for goods shipped from the West (Duus et al., 1989, p.xiii). At first, maintaining an informal empire was seen as a better alternative than annexing China, in order for Japan to avoid paying the high cost of annexation and maintenance and incurring the wrath of the anti Japanese patriots. Because China and Japan had cultural similarities it was easier for the Chinese to accept the Japanese presence in their country: it may well be that this greater familiarity with Chinese culture gave advantages to Japanese enterprises that the Western firms did not enjoy (Duus et al., 1989, p.9). As the instability had weakened the Chinese government, in 1915 Japan saw that as the perfect opportunity to impose further demands (The Twenty One Demands), even though they did not gain much of it and ruined their relationships with the British and the Americans. (OECD, 2008) In recent times, companies have become more open with their innovation process, leading to revolution described as Open Innovation by Chesbrough (2003). This open innovation model is a more dynamic model when compared the traditional model as there is much more interaction between knowledge assets outside the company as well as inside. Henry Chesbrough (2003) in his book Open Innovation: New Imperative for creating and profiting from technology defines open innovation as a concept in which companies must use ideas from inside as well as outside sources and find internal and external ways to reach the market in order to advance their technological capabilities. Open innovation combines these 3 Connect and Develop, P G s big stake in open innovation concepts of inside and outside ideas into systems and structures so that there is some order in the chaos. In another book Open Business Models: How to Thrive in the New Innovative Landscape he defines open innovation as the flow of knowledge internally and externally such that it moves the process of innovation at a much faster pace and so that new markets can be found for the use of this ... • 40. Comparing The Pilgrim s Progress And Paradise Lost Comparing The Pilgrim s Progress and Paradise Lost, Two Works Focused on Salvation Two influential pieces of English literature, both focusing on the topic of salvation, are The Pilgrim s Progress, written by John Bunyan in 1678 (2269), and Paradise Lost, composed in the previous decade by poet John Milton in 1667 (1945). While these two works both pay special attention to mankind s preoccupation with being saved, they differ vastly from one another in the language and literary style used in each respective piece, the way in which salvation itself is portrayed, and also in how the salvation of each story s characters is determined through their resistance to temptation and the state of their relationship with God. Before even mentioning the content of the works themselves, it becomes immediately evident that the writing styles of The Pilgrim s Progress and Paradise Lost are near polar opposites of one another. For example, in The Pilgrim s Progress, author John Bunyan writes in a simple prose style, which is relatively easy for most to comprehend. In contrast, John Milton, in Paradise Lost, employs a complicated, original poetic style that is the first of its kind. In using some Latin words and phrases while employing a rhyme scheme commonplace in Latin poetry, Milton is able to construct an eloquent, highly polished language in this piece. However, in still using English as the poem s primary language, Milton is still able to effectively communicate its theme to his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They can hunt birds, retrieve downed birds, and track and tree mammals, both large and small. Airedales were also the first breed used as police dogs in both Great Britain and Germany, and in wartime, served as guards and messengers. They were prized by both law enforcement and military because they retained their training well and would work through harsh conditions and discomfort. The breed was developed in Aire, England, probably from the English Terrier. Rasputin treated Alexis as if he were his nanny, reading him stories, curing his headaches, but most importantly, controlling his bleeding. It was said that all that Rasputin had to do was merely tell him that it will stop and somehow, without any explanation for the occurrence, the bleeding would stop. However Rasputin managed to stop Alexis suffering, the truth of the matter was that he gained Nicholas and Alexandra s undivided support and it gave him immense power. Czar Nicholas listened to his wife so Rasputin began to tell Alexandra what is to happen in the country. She in turn listened to him and told her husband everything. Although Rasputin was nearly an uneducated man, he found a seat in the Duma and was elected in 1912. He became an important political figure. In1913, the Czar pushed towards rigid antagonism toward the Duma, Rasputin and the Czarina urged him to dissolve it altogether or at least take away all of its real power. 1913 was also the 300th anniversary of the Romanov Dynasty and the importance of the Duma was intentionally slighted. Pepsi and Coke have also been targeting this growing consumer market in their soda lines with new innovations of low or no carb drinks such as Pepsi Edge3 and Coke s C24, as well as reinvigorations of their already no carb diet drinks. So where do the sports drinks fit into this low carb craze? The answer is they don t. Each of these sports drinks is packed with enough carbohydrates to equal a liquid potato, making them nothing but a memory for people whose daily carb intake is down to 20 60 grams.5 Thus, we have a void in the beverage market that is not being filled. Further deepening this void is the fact that people losing weight tend to be more active, craving something besides water or diet soda after their workouts. This is a perfect example of how a shift in product mix for either company could give them distinct competitive advantage. By simply creating a no carb line of Gatorade or PowerAde sports drinks, the company will have altered its product mix and filled the market void with brand loyal users, adding to the overall market resiliency and strength of the parent company.6 Further analysis of this product line could also reveal strong needs for having different strengths of sports drinks for different levels of activity (i.e. zero carbs for slightly active, 15 grams of carbs for moderately active, and up to 120 grams for marathon runners) enabling a kind of mass customization to ensure that the product line can suit any and all ... Sex Change In The Bees And The Birds In The Bees and the Birds chapter of Biological Exuberance, Bruce Bagemihl describes transsexuality in animals as physically becoming the opposite sex (Bagemihl 37). There are a variety of terms to describe transsexuality in animals, for instance, protogynous sex change is the transition from a female to male, while protandrous sex change is the transition from a male to female (Bagemihl 40). Males who have not undergone a sex change are primary males, while those who have are secondary. Children and adults are very different considering their emotional development and it plays a large role in how they view apologies. Previous research on apologies targeted adults, so there is not much known on how children view them. This is why Smith, Chen, and Harris (2010) conducted a study focusing on how children view apologies on an emotional level. The two emotional functions they studied was how a transgressor expressed their remorse and the victim s alleviation of upset feelings after a moral transgression took place. (2010) formulated many hypotheses which were the starting point in discovering the missing information on this subject. They were first concerned with what the children s attributions would be like to the transgressor, depending on whether they apologized or not. A study, that did not involve an apology, was done by Nunner Winkler Sodian (1988) where they had discovered that 4 year olds attributed positive emotions while 8 year olds were more likely to attribute negative feelings. Smith et al. (2010) used the data from this happy victimizer study into consideration when formulating their own hypothesis. They expected that when there was no apology given, young children would attribute positive feelings, but older children would attribute mixed feelings. They came to this assumption for the younger children because they focus mainly on whether the transgressor fulfilled their desire or not. So, if they did fulfill it, they would attribute positive feelings. Which follows the happy victimizer expectancy. Although Nunner Winkler Sodian (1998) found that older children attribute negative feelings, they expected them to attribute mixed feelings for several reasons. Firstly, Arsenio Kramer (1992) found 6 to 8 year olds to have mixed feelings; secondly, Nunner Winkler Sodain (1998) claim that older children focus on the feelings of the transgressor about causing upset or harm when attributing emotions. Alexander IIi Of Macedonia Truly Worthy Of The Title Essay Was Alexander III of Macedonia really worthy of the title Great or was he just a megalomaniac conditioned into this belief by his followers? Well, if you consider his military legacy which is almost as large as the swath of territory he conquered spanning from modern day Greece to northern India, or the fact that his over 2,000 year old combat tactics are still being taught at military academies the world over, I don t believe the word great would be too far from imagination. When Alexander rose to power following the death of his father, Phillip II, his kingdom of Macedonia encompassed all of the land that we know as modern Greece. For Alexander this was not enough.
