Arianna Nicoletti, fashion designer and activist on "Upcycling Fashion"
Arianna Nicoletti is a fashion designer and activist working with the concept of "Upcycling" since 2009.
Fascinated by the aspect of textile waste reduction, in the last years together with her team she initiated many projects in Berlin: in 2010 they founded their own upcycling label aluc, which was followed by the first German blog about upcycling fashion and the first concept store dedicated to the topic, The Upcycling Fashion Store. With the institution of their monthly networking event Strich&Faden, they created a proper hub for sustainable fashion in Berlin.
In 2012 she started up the project Water to Wine – Material Pool in collaboration with the Berliner Stadtmission creating a source of second-hand textiles for international designers.
She is the co-founder of the project The Green Fashion Tours Berlin and a founding member of the association Future Fashion Forward e.V.

1) The document discusses the carbon footprint of leather fashion and proposes more sustainable alternatives. Leather production requires significant energy and chemicals during the tanning process and contributes to greenhouse gas emissions.
2) While some eco-initiatives in leather focus on vegetable tanning or recycling leather waste, the document argues that plant-based materials like hemp, cotton and linens provide more sustainable options with lower environmental impact compared to leather.
3) Synthetic materials also have lower energy needs than leather production and some synthetics are partially biodegradable, though fully biodegradable vegan leathers now exist as alternatives. Overall the document questions whether leather can truly be considered eco-friendly.
The document discusses eco-friendly and sustainable fashion, including why it is important to wear such clothing. It outlines eco-friendly materials like organic cotton, soy silk, and corn fiber that are used in clothing production. The document also mentions transportation considerations and lists some eco-brands, stores, and designers that focus on sustainability, such as Levi's, H&M, Nike, and Patagonia. Ways to reuse clothing through donation are presented, as well as eco-celebrities promoting sustainable fashion.
Sustainable fashion aims to create environmentally friendly and socially responsible systems. Conventional clothing production can harm the environment through water pollution from pesticides and dyes, emissions from synthetic fibers and transportation, and filling landfills when clothes are discarded. Materials like modal rayon are made from processed beechwood but can release formaldehyde and cause allergic reactions in some people. Fur farming produces animal waste that pollutes waterways with nitrogen and phosphorus while processing involves harmful chemicals. Garment manufacturing has issues with long work hours, unsafe conditions, harassment, restrictions on unions and supply chain pressures that compromise worker welfare. Alternatives promote fair trade, child labor-free and eco-friendly options.
The document discusses the future of DIY fashion and sustainability. It suggests that giving individuals direct access to creative design and production processes through open collaboration and sharing of information can empower people and foster a sense of community. Emerging technologies like 3D printing and open-source software are making fashion design and production more accessible and customizable. Approaches like upcycling existing textiles and facilitating communication between producers and consumers can help promote sustainability in the industry.

Understanding User Needs and Satisfying ThemAggregage
https://www.productmanagementtoday.com/frs/26903918/understanding-user-needs-and-satisfying-them
We know we want to create products which our customers find to be valuable. Whether we label it as customer-centric or product-led depends on how long we've been doing product management. There are three challenges we face when doing this. The obvious challenge is figuring out what our users need; the non-obvious challenges are in creating a shared understanding of those needs and in sensing if what we're doing is meeting those needs.
In this webinar, we won't focus on the research methods for discovering user-needs. We will focus on synthesis of the needs we discover, communication and alignment tools, and how we operationalize addressing those needs.
Industry expert Scott Sehlhorst will:
• Introduce a taxonomy for user goals with real world examples
• Present the Onion Diagram, a tool for contextualizing task-level goals
• Illustrate how customer journey maps capture activity-level and task-level goals
• Demonstrate the best approach to selection and prioritization of user-goals to address
• Highlight the crucial benchmarks, observable changes, in ensuring fulfillment of customer needs
