2. Locations for photography
Risk/issue Solution
Rain or other weather conditions might cause issues on days I plan to go out shooting. I will still go out and get what images I can. Try and make time in my schedule to
take more on a better day.
Traveling to locations may cause cost issues for myself but also my models. I will have to plan the day ahead making sure everyone is aware of what they need
but also find cheap alternatives.
Some of my locations and what we are doing may be dangerous, and risk of injury may be high. We will make sure to bring safety equipment along, as well as not going to far
astray from cities. But also try to stick to biking on dry days and stick the less action
photography to rainy days.
Some locations such as skate parks and cities will be busy and make it hard to get the best
possible photos.
I am going to try and find smaller low key skate parks in general as part of the style,
but also we will try and explain to people around us to just give us a bit of time if
we do want a particular image with no background obstruction.
My project defiantly requires me to be with some one else most of the time, and if I do plan a
day out somewhere and some lets me down it may be problematic.
To prevent this I could always try and bring 2 models along with me, but if it still
does happen I am including some photography of places and just skate parks.
For my project I am not just showcasing biking but the lifestyle and culture. This means I may
be taking images in places that may not be safe or may not be accessible.
I will always be with other people when I do go to unknown places that may be a
bit dodgy, we will also stay away from places that are not open to the public and
have risk of trouble.
For my project we will go to some locations that may be abit out of the way
especially for the less action shots, this may mean no access to shops.

4. Article ideas and planning
• The age of BMX in New England (research on my research PowerPoint.)
• I will be looking at the history of BMX freestyle within New England, looking at it from the
early days in the 70s and the rise in the 80s. I will look at several top riders that came from
there, and how it became just as popular as it was on the east coast and how it has
effected the whole scene in general.
• This article will be harder to gather my own photography, however I will be editing the
images a lot and using techniques such as the Hockney joinery to make the images more
my own.
• Article on Paul a videographer for a UK pro BMX team
• I will include an interview with him.
• His own work in the field
• How he got into BMX and why he has stayed part of the community since a teen.

5. Magazine running order and content
• Content:
• 2 main articles (BMX in New England, Videographer) the articles will spread
over 4 pages each. (8)
• Adverts- my magazine will include lots of ads and will be a big part of the
magazine its self. (20 pages will cover ads alone)
• Interview- I will have one main interview included in the magazine taking
up 1 page but also leaving another free for the images( 2 pages)
• Photography- the magazine will include loads of photos throughout,
however I want certain pages to have nothing but photos like a gallery
page, rather then photos used in adverts and articles.

6. Fonts and colours
• As my project is going to be a magazine,
the main focus of my production will be
based on the design aspects and
photography. This means that the
colour choices and what font styles I
use will be an important statement to
the magazine, these pages is reference
to some fonts that I like and believe will
fit the magazine but also colours that
work together and again fit the
magazines aesthetic.
I have chose a collection of fonts that I believe magazines with similar styles and
content to my own would use, these fonts will either work well in my work or will
work as a reference towards my own typography I will be trying to include in the
project.
I have gone for a collection of fonts that don’t really share many qualities, however
they each fit a style or idea I have for my production, such as the Kuinkes font would
work really well on a advert for an all American product or clothing, as it is a font
you'd see at a dinner or on a truckers hat in the states to me.
The smaller fonts in the box are a choice of fonts I can use for the articles and more
bulk text, these are all san-serif fonts that are easy to read but also have a slight bit of
individuality based on the topics I will be doing. E.g. the timeless font will look good
on a lighthearted ad with pastille colors and more circular fonts.

7. Color Scheme
For my magazine I can not build a color pallet before I actually
have my photos. Looking at existing products similar to my
own, I noticed that they don’t have a solid color scheme but
use the photography as reference towards the color scheme to
each page.
Therefore I will be using adobe color cc as a way to design the
adverts and pages for the product, adobe color allows you to
insert an image and then it takes apart the key colors used on
that photo.
Using this will be a great help if I am going to design my pages
based from the photos.
I have been looking at magazines and although they don’t seem to
have a color scheme that is clearly visible through the whole
magazine, they still use on primary color that will pop up on certain
pages other then black and white.
So with my product I will also choose one primary color that will be
visible throughout, this color will be taken from the cover and will be
which ever color I think stands out on the front so the color is solid
and prominent on the pages with little.

8. These are various color schemes that I may be using for my pages,
these are 3 of my locations for the photography. Basing my colors
from the photography means that the surrounding areas and the land
will play a big part in the colors I use, so I have used some existing
images just to get an idea of what colors will be used.
However doing this has shown me that these locations generally have
little color or are very similar, this means when it comes to my
photography I must take in too account what I and the models wear,
so bright bold colors will be important to help add to the colors I can
use on the page.
