Presenting my project
Issuu
• Now we have finished the project it is important that
we actually get our work out there, so its visible not
only to us but anyone who may be interested.
• The first major way of presenting my work I have done
is publishing the magazine on to Issuu, which is a self
publishing website for magazines, books and zines. It is
a great way for people with no recognition to start
getting there work out into the media, without
requiring a lot of money and contacts.
So I chose to put my work on to issuu because it doesn't’t cost anything and its quick
and easy, it allows me to put my work onto a platform where anyone could possibly
see it from all over.
Issuu is a website used by millions of people all over interested in the same area of
the media, so having my magazine on there gives me a chance to show people who
can tell me what they think but also give constructive feedback on how I could
improve or how it could have been done in a more appealing manor.
Issuu also attracts people who may be looking for particular styles of work, people
who may need a designer for there project and may contact you due to an interest in
your work, it’s a big chance to show lots of people who are involved what you can do.
Also with Issuu you can use it as a way of advertising your product, rather then
posting an issue every month you could post a couple pages as a way to show people
what they could see but adding a link to where they can find the full copy.
Social Media
• Using social media as a way of presenting my work is a really common and
efficient method used these days, it gives you the chance again to get your
work out there to lots of people all over with no costs.
• Using social media allows you too constantly update your page with new
work and slowly build up an online portfolio accessible to most.
• I can also use it not just to showcase pages from my magazine but also to
get all my illustrations and photography into the world, lots of people who
share interest in media and similar styles are all over the internet.
Existing accounts
I will look at various existing accounts that share
styles and topics that my product has put forward
and how and what they do on there accounts
Pusher BMX
They are a BMX shop based in Denver, they use social media
as a way to showcase various products and the team that
rides under the stores name. Posting lots of pics and clips of
the riders out on tour, doing tricks, wearing and riding the
stores merchandise.
It’s a great way for this store to show more people from
around the world who like to BMX where they are if
someone is close but also to help promote the name of there
brand and team.
Thrasher
Thrasher have there own social media page, this
pages main aim is to promote and spread news to
the people interested and involved in the culture.
They use there page to also promote small
companies and skaters all over the world its all
about skate and raw as thrasher has always been.
Full of pics, videos and articles all about skate!!
Printed copy (independent skate/BMX Shops)
The second method of presenting my work to the public is through small
shops.
My product Is very similar to a zine therefore I could get my work out
there by printing multiple copies, then taking these copies around
different individual independent skate and BMX shops asking if there was
any chance I could present and sell the zine within there store.
I would have to stick to smaller less know independent stores as these
places will be more open to me putting my product there, but also as
these places tend to have a stronger community belief and ma be happy
to help someone who shows interest in the same thing. Doing this though
allows me to actually have something in shops and it is exposed to people
who I had in mind when creating the product. I will look at several shops
where I could possibly do this near and around me.
Welcome skate shop Leeds
Welcome is an independent skate company who
started in 2010 to embrace and promote the
shrinking culture. They have a store based in
leeds whom I know various people who work
there including the man in charge.
This is a store who care a lot about the skate and
BMX culture therefore they may be open to me
putting various copies of my work within there
store.
Anti-Gravity York
Anti-Gravity is a skate, BMX, scooter and
extreme sports shop within york, it is not part of
a chain and just buys in various brands from all
the sports. This means the shop isn't huge and
may be more likely to display various copies of
my magazine within there stores.
Its also very close to me and will attract many
people from a ray of all sports similar to the
cultures of BMX.
York Zine Festival
Every year york are the hosts
of a zine festival where lots of
designers show off and present
there work to onanother
If I was to take several copies of my own zine to the fest and
set up my own little stall I could not only show the public, but
it gives me the chance to show many designers and people
who work within the industry, this gives me the chance to
receive feedback form professionals but also start building
contacts I can take forward in life and at university.
