Louis Joseph Harman proposes creating a magazine called "The TRIP Magazine" focused on BMX culture and style. The project will emphasize graphic design elements like typography, layout, and color using inspiration from designers Neville Brody and David Carson. Harman will produce the magazine using skills in InDesign, Photoshop, and illustration developed through previous projects. The magazine will include articles, interviews, and advertisements reflecting the 90s grunge aesthetic surrounding BMX. Harman will evaluate the project through self and peer reflections on the process, final product, and how well it achieves the goals of experimenting with conventions of design.

Hadj Ounis's most notable work is his sculpture titled "Metamorphosis." This piece showcases Ounis's mastery of form and texture, as he seamlessly combines metal and wood to create a dynamic and visually striking composition. The juxtaposition of the two materials creates a sense of tension and harmony, inviting viewers to contemplate the relationship between nature and industry.

Project proposal title and date:
The TRIP Magazine
Main area of activity:
For my project, I will be making a magazine based around BMX’s and the culture. Therefore,
my project will focus on the graphic design aspects such as the use of typography, layouts
and the colours, I will also be using lots of photography in the project.
The inspirations for my project are Neville Brody and David Carson, therefore my project
will really test the conventions of graphic design testing out typography in unusual ways
and really experimenting with the page layouts and use of blank space.
Rationale:
Over the past couple of years, I have made several different projects to really test different
skills in the media, I have made a magazine before using lots of really bright and bold
pastille colours. That project helped me get to grips with using InDesign as a software for
the layouts of my pages and the way that I may place imagesor text in a conventional
aspect.
I have also done a client project where i made use of lots of photography, this project gave
me a chance to have a proper go at editing images on Photoshop giving me a basic
understanding of some of the features that PS has to offer.
Then my zine a made showed me more old fashion techniques, as I tried to recreate the
methods of the sixties, cutting and scanning making use of overlaying images on top of
one another.
These skills that the various projects have taught me will help me bring together a project
based around the various designer’s styles, putting my photo skills to use. But also, each
project gave me a chance to use many different type styles from basic serif fonts in the
client work, to wacky and bold bubble fonts in my magazine. Thiswill show to be really
useful in the project as I want to try and experiment and test with lots of typography.
Project Concept: The project I will design is going to be a magazine, the main topic of the
magazine isgoing to be on BMXing but I will focus more on the culture surrounding that. I
chose this topic as I am very interested in the 90s-grunge style of design, but also the jump
and change in graphics that happened over that time period.
I will take part in researching various designers and photographers who either had a big
influence at this time or follow styles that are similar to this era and look. I will also take
part in questioning people whom may be involved in this scene or even were alive when
this change of graphics and the style really came about.
I will make a magazine where I will include articles, an interview and various posters and
advertisement that would typically appear in this magazine type. Typography and
photography are going to be used In the magazine, but I want to really try and push the
conventions of these aspects through layouts and photo editing.
I want to try and also implement illustration into the magazine in some way, if that be
through product designs ore poster advertisements.

How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
When it comes to evaluating my project, I will take part in various examples of evaluating, this will
help me look at what may be good with the work but also where and how I could improve the
project.
I will take part in a production reflection as I take part in my production, this will help to show how I
made the product but also will be useful as reference for any future work that may require the
same or a similar process.
I will then take part in a final self-reflection of my work, in this I will take apart the whole process I
have been through looking at the benefits and what could have worked better in my research,
planning and production. When looking at my final products I will pull apart several aspects, I will
look at what elements of the work appeals to my target audience, compare my work to existing
products and what conventions I did well and what elements I could of included that they may
have.
Then finally I will show my product to my peers and receive feedback from what they may think of
my work, good and bad points.

Week Tasks to be Completed: Specific Tasks
1 Pre-production Proposal and background research
I will be brain storming various ideas for what I
could do for the project and why I might do them
and how.
Once the idea is finalised and I know which and
what I am going to do, I will write up my proposal
explaining what it is my project is.
2 Pre-production Research- primary and secondary
I will start this by looking at various artists,
designers and photographers, what they have
done to change the way we view the media how
they influence me and what elements of their
work I could take forward.

3 Pre-production Research- primary and secondary
I will be looking at various existing products that
influence my project, and picking apart what
elements of this will be used in my work but also
how and why they may have done what they did.
4 Pre-production Experiments
I will be experimenting different types of
photography for my project, using methods such
as hoockney joiner then trying out new ways of
editing these photos.
5 Pre-production Experiments
I want to look at different methods and ways of
presenting and using font on a magazine page,
taking ideas and influence from the various
designers I choose to research.
6 Pre-production Pre-Production and planning
I will start making more visual plans for my work,
looking at various fonts and colours that would
work well in my project.
Also making various layout plans to show and
give me an idea of how I will be presenting my
work on the pages.
7 Pre-production Pre-Production and planning and Writing up my
article and making the double page spread
I will start writing up the article for my project,
using notes and evidence from my research that I
collected from various other articles and
documentaries on the topic.
8 Production Production and reflections
9 Production Pre-production photography
I will spend the day collecting photos for my
project within the college, using methods I may
have learnt in my experiment side of the
research.
10 Production Production photo editing and first advert
Using the images I collected I will be building my
first advert pages for the magazine, on
Photoshop.
11 Production Draft peer feedback and illustration on graphics
tablet
Using the graphics tablet and mouse I will draw
up all the illustrations for the project, taking
influences and ideas from existing products but
also the artists I have looked at early on.
12 Production Making my illustrations into adverts and posters
Taking the illustrations I made and turning them
into adverts and poster pages again using
Photoshop.
13 Production Making adverts using images
I will also be putting together the article I wrote up
using In-design, as the structure for articles is
much better on here over Photoshop.
14 Production Using the photos, I collected to make adverts and
placing what phots the article may need
Using photos, I collected out side of college, I will
make the rest of the advert and poster pages I
planned on including in the magazine.
