Lesson
Introduction
• First students are introduced about Poetry and Prose.
• Poetry is literary work in which the expression of feelings and ideas is given
intensity by the use of distinctive style and rhythm; poems collectively or as a
genre of literature.
• Prose is written or spoken language in its ordinary form, without metrical
structure.

Procedure
• Teacher Modeling
• The teacher will introduce the lesson by asking the students what the think
Poetry /Prose is. There will be a question answer to familiarise the students
with Poetry/Prose
• Review some different types of figurative language.
• Point out that there are three important types to think about for the poem
you're about to read: personification (speaking of something non-human as
though it were human), simile (comparing something to something else using
"like" or "as"), and metaphor (comparing something to something else by
saying it is that thing).

Procedure
• Interactive Modeling
• Distribute the text of poem/Prose.
• Read the Poem/Prose aloude.
• Each time you come across figurative language, underline it and ask students to
identify what type of figurative language it is.
• Using the overhead on figurative language the students will learn various ways
of using words in poems/Prose.
• Students will about various forms of Prose/poetry (Ballad,Song,Sonnet)

• Practice
• Students will write a group poem/prose by brainstorming for ideas and using
the formulas to create a poem.
• The group Poems/Prose will be transferred on construction paper for display.
• Evaluation
• Students are far more familiar with terms than they were before; clarified
distinctions between terms (simile/metaphor, etc)
• Students are more comfortable with terms.
