Introduction
Summary
Hello my name is Joe Clark and I am here today in order
to reassure you that my ideas for a new male health
magazine fits your brief.

Brie
commissioned by the Northern
f“You have beenmagazine or newspaper product.Echo to
produce a new
You
product could be in any style or genre but it must be
self financed through sales or advertising. You must also
produce your magazine for a specified audience
segment within 16 to 25 age group.”
How I aim to meet the brief
In order to meet the brief that I have been set I
will do the following:
 Make a magazine that is suitable and
appealing to the Northern Echo
reader, socioeconomic groups ABC1
 Create a self financed magazine from sales
and advertisements
 Selected a magazine genre that interests the
targeted audience (16-24), ‘male health’
because…
 Create a high quality product through
employing experienced employees.
Why male health?
 I have a strong knowledge about sport
and fitness due to many years of my
brother giving me lots of information. My
brother is a qualified personal trainer
and a sport science graduate.
 Around 52% of the Northern Echo’s
current readership are men.
 I regularly engage in fitness therefore I
have a working knowledge which I can
apply to the genre.
 Male health is quite an expensive genre
and the a high percentage of Northern
Echo readers are in the ABC1 group.
Audience Profile
-

100% male audience
Youth tribe will be Sports Junkies
Aged 16-25 years old
ABC1 socioeconomic groups
Majority are college or university
students
- Purchase high quality brands
A Sports Junkie is a young
person who actively live there
lives.
Secondary Audience
Consideration
A secondary audience are people
who do not buy a newspaper or
magazine themselves, but read a
copy after the buyer has finished
with it.

My secondary audience are:

Female
friends/Girlfriends
I need to consider my SA by
avoiding:

Taboo language

Nudity

Relevant information

Parents
Tailoring my Product to my Audience
Use useful
stylistics

Models will be the

Constraints – The Press Complaints
Commission
Who are the PCC?
The Press Complaints Commission (PCC) is an
independent self-regulatory body which deals
with complaints about the editorial content of
newspapers and magazines. Common media
problems are tackled such as
harassment, accuracy and discrimination.

Risqué?
The genre of Male Health is not risqué with very
few previous noted cases being seen. This means
that PCC codes that I need to follow are extremely
limited.
Codes to Consider

1. Discrimination
I must avoid prejudicial or pejorative
references to anyone's
gender, colour, race, religion, sexual
orientation or any physical or mental
illness or disability.

Editor's Notes

  1. Hello my name is Joe Clark and I am here today in order to reassure you that my ideas for a new male health magazine fits the brief shown below on then PowerPoint. Which I am sure you are very familiar with.
  2. This high socioeconomic group require a high quality product to be produced. More educational stereotypically more intelligent.Adverts will take up a fair amount of my magazine. We live in a society that is particular conscience about health, younger people are leading the way for this. This will be costly but it will be required. Overall I think my product fills a gap in the market as it is aimed at younger males, articles apply more to them.Other titles that already dominate the market such as MH and MF appeal to the age group of late 20s – 30s
  3. Which has unintentionally gone in.He is also in the process of being a strength and conditioning coach.Just over half a menFrom brief research I have conducted.
  4. - To the left of the PowerPoint is my readership profile. I hope it displays the interests of my reader.
  5. Secondary audience, don’t, purchase, newspaper, magazine, read copy , buyer finished.
  6. SS font more appealing to a younger audience. Easier to read.Models same age, more appealing, can relate better.Informality is usually attractive to my audience, too formal is boring.
  7. PCC being independent, self-regulatory, complaints.Few previous cases after research.
  8. The only one that I may have to consider is discrimination.
  9. The term ‘Getting into shape’ is often thrown around. Idea behind the name.
  10. To be informative and provide young males with information that will benefit them.
  11. Balanced amount of my three topic areas fitness, nutrition and lifestyle.Talk about 2 features and 1 regular.
  12. May differ slightly but will be used the majority.Yellow used to contrast the colours.
  13. Similar to one another with only a couple of aspects changed.I may go back and differentiate them more. Provide wider opinions from my focus group.
  14. - +s excel –s. I may go back and differentiate them more. Provide wider opinions from my focus group.
  15. There are 3 main reasons why I choose COMAG as my products distributor:3 Decades Worth – Reliability one my product being distributed efficiently In terms of readership or content or sizeMen’s Health, Esquire and
  16. Screen shot of Mixams magazine calculator costs.£1,03220, a reasonable amount.
  17. After some online research.
  18. Also after many hours online research
