threatened due to their religion. Imagine you lived in a place, where everywhere you went was
segregated with signs that say Whites only and Blacks only . This is what life was like for
Martin Luther King Jr. during the 1960 s until he died. Martin Luther King Jr, was an iconic
figure that led the Civil rights Movement from the 1950s to 1968 (Biography.com editors). To
fully grasp what Martin Luther King Jr. did for our country and what he went through daily one

Luther King Jr.s early life was filled with excitement and a sad tragedy, that people may not have

of Michael King Sr. and Alberta Williams King. This was the birth of someone who will make a

Small business owners often fail to grasp the understanding of the legalities of ownership and
how to separate their business liability from themselves. This means there must be a legal
structure in place to protect the investor from the mishaps or misfortunes of the business, aside
from carrying a business insurance policy. State and county tax laws play a role in determining
how the legalities of the business should be structured, as well. In many cases an incorporated
business is often preferential over a limited liability company with outside investors. Both legal
entities ensure to protect the investor by separating personal and business assets. Being
incorporated either way allows the RV park an easier avenue of attracting new investors, raising
capital, and if necessary, allowing a more manageable transfer of ownership. There are some
differences between the types of incorporation, though most are minimal. Limited liability
companies have options of four different types of tax treatment, whereas a standard incorporated
business, such as an S corporation or C corporation is often taxed heavier. Some of the drawbacks
for a business set up under an incorporation is the additional requirements for administrative details
and record keeping. In some cases, becoming incorporated can create an additional tax burden for
the business. This can be especially detrimental to the owner of the business during the

Essay on Offshore Drilling
Offshore Drilling
What is it?
Drilling for oil in the ocean is one of the greatest technological breakthroughs in recent decades,
and many new techniques have been developed to profit from the abundance of oil underneath the
ocean floor. While drilling for oil has been around for hundreds of years in one form or the another,
the effective extraction of petroleum from beneath the sea floor did not surface until the last forty
years. The search for oil often turns out to be unproductive, but this practice is vital for the
economic future of many nations.
In order for any drilling to take place, an offshore drilling rig must first be installed. These offshore
platforms can be situated in water up to a several hundred meters in depth. ... Show more content on

These production platforms come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and types, which are dependent on
the dimensions of the field, the depth of the water and how far the oil and/or gas field is from shore.
The platforms are generally made of steel and fixed to the seabed with steel posts. These platforms
harbor all of the processing equipment for the well and can house a maximum of 80 workers. In
addition, platforms have concrete structures large enough to store oil, with gravity keeping them
situated on the seabed
Explanation of Drilling
Drilling begins once the drill bit is lowered to the ocean floor. This first step is referred to as
spudding.
There are two types of drill bits: (1) a roller cone or rock bit which usually has three cones armed
with steel or tungsten carbide teeth or buttons; or (2) a diamond bit, imbedded with small
industrial diamonds. The drill bit is attached to drill pipe and rotated by a turntable on the platform
floor. As the hole deepens, extra lengths of drill pipe are attached. (Offshore Drilling)
The diameter of the drill bit varies from a diameter of 36 inches, which is used when the hole in
the ocean floor is first started, to a diameter of 8.5 inches. The total length of a drill pipe is 30 feet.
The time it takes for the drill to reach the oil and gas trap could be weeks.
In order to move the drill cuttings

Bayer Monsanto Vertical Integration
Consolidation already drives many farmers out of business and restricts many from even
entering the market. Although many farms in the US are small, most food produced and
consumed in the U.S. is produced by relatively very few farms. In 2012, a small 4 percent of
farms produced 66 percent of all our food. Combine that with large corporate control of food
manufacturing and it isn t hard so see that the many levels of the ag industry are being controlled
by large corporate entities which gives them lots of market power. Although most people only think
new and small time farmers will be heavily impacted by consolidation, even large farmers have to
focus on commodity crops because of these mega firms. The consolidation of more than the seed
industry within agriculturehas created these barriers to entry.... Show more content on

Much higher than many young and aspiring farmers can afford, corporate farming is likely become
even more predominant than it currently is. The Bayer Monsanto combo will create substantial
vertical integration between seed traits, seeds, and crop chemicals. The result of vertical
integration will likely make seed prices even higher for farmers. The seed producers will make
package deals where you have to buy a specific seed with their patented chemical spray and etc.
This creates even less crop variability and choices for crop producers. Due to the vertical
integration, smaller individualized companies will likely be irrelevant because their products won t

Explain How To Teach Children To Swim
To teach children to swim, you will need a pool and patience. Lessons are taught by lifeguards,
as well as by individuals in the community. Swimming is a helpful skill to learn for people as it is
great exercise and fun to do. This can be a frustrating job but is worth the trouble. The first thing
to teach children is to put their face in water and blow out of their nose. This is vital to teach
early on in order for them to grasp the concept that they will not get water in their nose. They
really have to figure that out for themselves, but you must in order to guide them in the right
direction. Still during day one, you should have the child sit on the side of the pool and learn how
to effectively kick. This is done by pointing the toes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These skills can be life saving in some circumstances. To teach the child how to float on their
back, you should use a noodle under either the back or under the arms to start. The child will be
scared at first, so they must be convinced that nothing bad will happen when they lay their head
back. You should help the by getting their body in the right place by getting them to move their
legs as if they were slowly riding a bicycle. After they are comfortable, remove the noodle
carefully. It will take a few tries for this to be successful as the child is alarmed by their support
being removed. Once learned, floating on the back is a relaxing a life saving skill to obtain.
Treading is a more tiring activity but is important nonetheless. To teach this, you should be in an
area of the water that the child can touch but is not halfway out of the water. You should explain
to the individual that they should move their legs like they are riding a bike in the water. The
arms should move around in circles to help. This should be a relatively easy thing to learn once
the child can swim fairly well and the child is comfortable in deeper

Critical Analysis on a Tina Modotti Photograph Essay example
Critical Analysis on a Tina Modotti Photograph Tina Modotti was from a very poor working
class society. She was brought up in the northeast part of Italy, in Udine, Friuli. She was born at
the tail end of the industrial revolution, in 1896. However, you could say, by all means, that her
village hadn t changed the slightest since the seventh century. She lived vigorously throughout her
childhood, working endless hours in a silk textile factory to earn a cash flow and to support the
family through starvation. After their father had abandoned them when Tina was twelve and fled

Finally, the texture and even the tone had a great deal of contrast in the photograph. Again, there
is evidence of a extremely rough background and very rugged working class hands. The rough
puppeteer hands represent the government, you could say she uses the rough hands to symbolise
masculinity, power and even toughness. Moreover, the other hand is similar, however, there are
differences. It represents the citizens; it is feeble, strangled in wire and being controlled by the
other hand, the government . To conclude, the textures play a key role in the development of the
idea of power, as well as the contrast in lighting. Tina Modotti grew up in an extremely
marginalised and poor environment. The way the government didn t help her family during their
rough periods and suffocating them in to labour would have been one of the several reasons that
influenced her. Equally important, her personal experiences of constant labour and hunger would
have made her come to the conclusion of disliking the government. In my opinion, the way the
government had no control over her dropping out of school and letting her go into child labour
would have influenced her to produce works that comments on marginalisation in society, the
depression and the repression of working class

think that social progress is to depend upon anything happening to the working people: some say

given more education and the world will be saved. It is equally a mistake to think that what we

Influence Of Modern Literature On The Representation Of...
The advent of the modern era ushered in a great demand imagist works and garnered a lot of
popularity, especially in connection to literature. War and all atrocities associated with it were
important focal points for creators of imagist literature and reality had become a very important
aspect to create an impact on the patrons of such literature. In this paper, a parallel will be drawn
between films and poems to show the transition in the representation of war in literature from anti
war and victorian sentiments to realistic depiction of war. In order to do so, I will make
references to poems and films pertaining to the First World War and show the change in
representation of the First World War between 1914 1917 and also post 1917. Influence of Modern
poetryin representation of war was seen in 1914 and the following years very prominently. Until
then, most poets would focus on themes like patriotism, loyalty, honor, love and other positive
ideal concepts. It took the occurrence of a world war for poets to begin looking at war for the
horror that it was and letting its reality set in. A very prominent example of this is Channel Firing
by Thomas Hardy. The verses of the poem are as follows,
That night your great guns, unawares,
Shook all our coffins as we lay,
And broke the chancel window squares,
We thought it was the Judgment day

The Cersei Lannister Of Privacy Invasion
The Cersei Lannister of Privacy Invasion: An Over Controlling and Oppressive Watchful
Government Presence Online In the television show Game of Thrones, there exists a world
called Westeros and in this world, there lives a woman by the name of Cersei Lannister. At the
end of the most recent season she became queen of the seven kingdoms amidst much controversy.
She rules Westeros with power, control, and an authoritarian air that commands fear from her
subjects. Cersei Lannister is the epitome of a bully government and will stop at nothing to get
exactly what she wants, even if it means assassinating thousands of innocent people and causing
the death of at least two of her children. This sort of bully behavior may be entertaining on the
television screen but what happens when art imitates life and the entities that oversee governing
our nation turn into the Cersei Lannister s of the world? Government agencies such as the CIA,
FBI, and the NSA are turning into organizations that actively spy on American citizens and they
use the same sort of scare tactics that Cersei Lannister uses when a certain northern family tries to
get in her way. The CIA, FBI, and the NSA use the information that we post online, what we like

Rit Effect Essay
If much of what enters consciousness does so in a reflex like manner, regardless of whether such
contents are a product of high or low level processes, do representations during the process of
refreshing behave similarly down stream? If this notion were to be held true, one would expect little
to no difference in the reflex like entry of contents into consciousness from one point in time to
another. This phenomenon is worth delving into primarily because decision making and directed
thought frequently carries the connotation of being willful, intentional, and vastly different from
what one might experience during the RIT. To test this hypothesis, a variant of the RIT was
designed to examine involuntary cognitions moments after the... Show more content on

(e.g., 0.86 in Allen et al., 2013; 0.87 in Cho et al., 2014; and 0.73 in Merrick et al., 2015). In more
complex variants of the RIT (Cushing, Gazzaley, Morsella, 2017), participants would (a) indicate
by button press the basic RIT effect and (b) press another button if the involuntary subvocalization
rhymed with a word held in mind (e.g., stir ). Since the act of rhyming requires the retrieval of
either the whole object name or, at minimum, the coda of the word, accurate performance ( .80
mean accuracy across trials) on this rhyming task supports the notion that subjects involuntary
experienced such subvocalizations. Though the RIT has revealed many insights, the entry of
unintentional contents into consciousness is not fully understood. Correspondingly, the many
processes that give rise to the RIT effect are the result of a synergistic cascade. For example, in
order for the effect to arise, there first needs to be the induction of an action set (e.g., to not
subvocalize the name of visual objects). The final mechanism that results in the RIT effect occurs
when the onset of the visual object activates the stages of processing that lead to the action effect of
subvocalizing. It is important to note that, without the activation of the relevant action set, it is
unlikely that participants would experience the phonological

Is It Okay To Torture By Richard Fisher Summary
With Robots becoming a popular part of our everyday lives people are beginning to question if
people are treating robots with the same respect that they treat people with. Researchers are also
beginning to wonder if there need to be laws to protect robots from being tortured or even killed.
Scientists have done research to test and see if people react the same to robots as they would to
actual people or animals. In Is it Okay to Torture or Murder a Robot Richard Fisher contemplates
the reason on why it is wrong to hurt or kill a robot by using a stern and unbiased tone. The author
s purpose of this essay is contemplating whether or not laws should be made protecting robots.
Throughout the essay he uses evidence from scientists who have dones tests, and it shows how

The author never puts his opinions through the article he states what scientist have found out from
research. On page 4 Fisher quotes Dr. Rault who said, Robots can, without a doubt, trigger human
emotions. This is a great example in the article when he Fisher gives examples of what researchers
thinks that makes the point come across without putting his own opinion in the article. Fisher also
uses a stern tone that does not show emotion, yet gets the point across. He does not put his own
opinions or thoughts that could show humor, instead he consistently keeps with a tone that is very
stern, and does not make any jokes about a topic that could easily have humor brought into it. One
way that Fisher shows sternness throughout the article is by giving facts, numbers, and data from
experiments that have been tested. One page 3 Fisher writes, After an hour of play, the people
refused to hurt their Plea with the weapons they had been given. This is a fact that Fisher had
obtained from the data of the tests results which is one way that he is able to write his article with

Social Work And Social Work
The Common and Separate Ground On the first page of Keith Lucas s, So You Want to be a
Social Worker he makes note of how Christianity and social work share a lot of the same values,
because of this the practice of social work can be viewed as a form of ministry. For example,
most social workers, no matter their religion believe that all people have worth, and see a great
importance in the showing of understanding and kindness towards them. Through my studies in
APS 101, at Redeemer University College, I have learned that social workwas brought up by the
Church; I never knew of this relationship. This new knowledge makes me eager to learn more
about the field, and the ways in which I can use it to serve not only my neighbors, but God himself,
through its missionary characteristics. This text has shown me that my beliefs impact the way I see
the world, the people in it, and that my thoughts and actions are inevitably affected by them. As I
move deeper into my studies, I am learning the importance of this, and of bringing my whole self
into whatever situations I face. Societal values are constantly changing, but Christian values remain
firm, as they are planted with biblical roots (Keith Lucas, 1987, p.3).
Social Work and Christian Beliefs I now understand that the conflicting beliefs, under the blanket of
Christianity can be divided into three categories. The first are the primary beliefs, these are
foundational and include events, such as God creating the world and

A Brief Biography Of Salvador Dali
On May 11, 1904 in Figueres, Spain, a boy named Salvador DalГ was born. People today know
him as a famous painter who symbolized surrealism. Throughout his life, the experiences that he
confronted within his journey set him on the path of success. The way his family raised him and
supported his craft, joining the surrealist movement and even the people he had in his life helped
shaped the man he was and how he acted until his death. After DalГ s forced retirement, on January
23, 1989 at the age of 85, DalГ passed away due to heart failure. DalГ was the second born of three

It was during this time when he was introduced to the style of Surrealism. Then in 1929 he met
Diakonova, also known as Gala , who turned out to become his wife in 1934. Even though Freud
s theory is considered to be eccentric and outdated in today s society. However, some parts of his
theory still hold true in the present and to people s lives. One of Freud s components of this theory
was the Oedipus complex and castration anxiety. The Oedipus complex is the unconscious desire
to have the mother and get rid of the father. It is during this complex when castration anxiety
occurs within the son and the superego starts to develop. Castration anxiety is the fear that his
penis will be cut off by the father. DalГ s father was a notary who held political and social power,
not only within his job but also within the family dynamic as well. DalГ s father had such a bad
temper that DalГ was afraid of him and sought comfort from his mother. Because of this, he and his
father competed for his mother s attention and love. Another example in DalГ s life of the Oedipus
complex is the way his mom and dad treated him. Before DalГ was born, his parents had another
son and named him Salvador DalГ. Yet, he died during infancy and nine months later they had
another son and named him Salvador DalГ as well. Throughout his childhood, his parents treated
him like he was the son they had lost. An example DalГ has talked about is when he was 5 years

The Ice Hotel And The Travelodge
Introduction
For a long time researchers are trying to find the perfect recipe for success, however it is very
hard to predict the response of the market to a new product and its adaptation to the environment.
The Ice Hotel and the Travelodge are two ventures established in the end of 20th century both in
the travel and hospitality sector but each one with its own unique business strategy. In evaluation
of their success the decisions made throughout the development of the above mentioned ventures
can be categorized as effectual and causal, as explained by Sarasvathy (2010). G.Sanvikarja
suggests that causational logic is more rational and based on prediction where as the effectual
strategy is more creative and is control orientated. Each of these approaches implies different
strategies and reasoning behind both individual decisions and responsiveness to the environment.
Furthermore, most enterprises follow a set of common principles that are key for building a
business strategy including defining means, setting affordable loss, leveraging contingencies and
forming partnerships (S. et. al, 2010). These four aspects are crucial for understanding how is a
business created and what is its approach. However, it should be noted that most of the businesses
are not strictly effectual or causal, rather a mixture of both with a tilt towards one. Every business
is individual and should be treated like one. This paper will examine the business strategies behind

Internship Interflection
My end of internship impression of Menards has changed a lot over the duration of my time in
many ways that the corporate office does actually care about its team member by offering a
benefits package, offering team members on weeks adding an extra $2.50 to the hourly wage,
whenever a national holiday comes around John MenardsJr. will send a letter with a card that offer
you to buy something in the store for free or offers a check that can be used in the store, and
every team member also can receive a 10% discount on any purchase with the store too. Another
way that surprised me was if you hard work, your managers notice, and inform corporate office
that you make receive a small pay increase. My opinion of the workplace knows I have realized
that the strict with their policies and procedures, but honestly, they seem to be more of a
guideline on what to follow, it is actually more of a laid back work environment but in a good
that managers don t micromanage. Some takeaways from my internship at Menard, is I have
discovered that I have a hidden talent for sales that did not know about. An example of this they
have been guest that have asked have you worked retail before because I was impressed with
quality of service you just offered. I learned a lot about myself that I have more patients than I
give myself credit for because they are days I am working with a guest that is beyond indecisive or

Gospel Of Wealth And Poverty Analysis
During the time of World War I, the United States was dealing with a lot of internal problems. At
the time before the war, Darwinism is very prominent. The working class looked to those in
poverty as if they were the scum of the earth. Then there was the gospel of wealth. The gospel of
wealth believed the things that you have is a divine blessing and has favor in the eyes of God
(Roark, Johnson, Cohen, Stage, Hartmann, 2014, p.563). While the working class enjoyed
themselves those in povertywas trying to make a living. Those in poverty could of ran to a
settlement house. Settlement houses were sent up in poor neighborhoods to help with the
progressivism (Roark, Johnson, Cohen, Stage, Hartmann, 2014, p.563). Jane Adams and Lillian

Factors Of An Authoritarian Government In The Movie V For...
People should not be afraid of their governments, governments should be afraid of their people. In
an authoritarian government, the citizens listen to their director because they have this fear within
them, that if they do not do what is asked of them they will face consequences. But in reality, the
citizens have power over the government and the government is the one that is living in fear. At
any moment someone can threaten the government. This has been seen through terrorist acts such
as 9/11 terror attacks, and this has been demonstrated in the movie V For Vendetta. In the movie V
For Vendetta, V attempts to bring freedom and justice into a society that has been corrupt from
having an authoritarian government. He threatens the government and tells them a year in advance
that he will blow up the most important building in their city, but the government was not able to
stop him. V wanted the city of London, England to have freedom and rights, free press, and to no
longer have to live in fake fear, all three which are factors of an authoritarian government. In V For
Vendetta, it is displayed that the citizens have no rights and freedoms, the media is controlled by
the government, and that the government creates fear. The citizens or as called in an authoritarian
government subjects of London do not have any rights. They must follow the rules of the
government, and if they do not there will be a corollary. Gordon Deitrich was a homosexual man

New Start Reflection
This summer I had the opportunity to do New Start a program for incoming freshmen at the
University of Arizona. The program is to support the transition from high school to college and
throughout the program you gain knowledge and tips not only just about the college but about
yourself. Using tools from class activities like SWOT and True Colors that helped me really
understand who I am and what are my strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Within this
essay I will share with you my SWOT analysis and the things I learned about myself during the last
few weeks.
Strengths
Personal values I believe speak a great deal about a person and who they are and I learned that
my values reflect just that. During New Start we had an activity in class that forced us to pick
from a list of personal values and narrow them down and rank them in order of importance. My
top values included family, friends, school, and independence just to name a few. This activity
was especially challenging for me but in the end it helped me really look at what truly is
important to me. I had to apply this lesson from class in my life sooner than I expected. My
grandmother passed away during New Start and I had to decide if I wanted to miss school and
be with family but that also meant by missing school I d be missing out on important
information. In the end I choose to go to school the next day and be with my family afterwards.
That decision alone was very hard because in a situation such as mine there was a conflict of my
personal values my family is very important to me but school is just as important to me.
Although it was difficult for me to make that decision but the fact I had the ability to choose
between two of my own personal values is why I ve chosen to place knowing and understanding
my personal values as a strength. I know that throughout life there will be times when I will have
to choose once again between my personal values and as student like I ve mentioned earlier I m
going to make those decisions based on what matters to me and what won t always be there in the
end.
Another strength I have is goal setting towards the end of high school coming into this summer my
top goal was to get a job. I ve tried my best to

Warrant Officer History
The Warrant Officer Corp has a long military history of producing subject matter experts in various
technical fields. These Soldiers have been sought out by higher leadership to provide
recommendations and expertise knowledge on specific topics. As the future of the Army continues
to change, so does the Warrant OfficerCorp. The traditional Warrant Officer is now experiencing a
multitude of changes to include becoming immaterial. According to Merriam Webster, the word
immaterial is defined as not important or significant. The idea of a subject matter expert becoming
less important to the Army is alarming and causing concern amongst the ranks. Senior staff
members are already aware that Warrant Officers are subject matter experts, therefore they want to
incorporate them into future leaders serving on their team. To accept and conquer change we must
look at the past so we can better understand our relevance for the future.

Andy Warhol Accomplishments
When considering the life and works of Andy Warhol, one thing is agreed upon for good or bad,
he changed the visual construction of the world we live in. His window advertisements were the
beginning of an era, where art would be seen in an array of forms away from the traditional
paintings and sculptures of the old world. He made people see everyday material objects in a
whole new light; through Pop Arthe could transform mundane into extraordinary. He was a
working man, a social climber, a builder, an acquirer of goods, and a known homosexual. These
attributes all contributed to the interesting and complicated nature of his art. One of the most
significant decades in 20th century art, the 1960s saw the rise of Pop Art, Op Art, Minimalism,
Conceptual Art, Performance Art, and Feminist Art, among countless other styles and movements.
Artists began to notice that American culture was filled with commercial images: on television and
billboards, and in magazines and newspapers, commercial art was used to sell everything from
dish scrubbers to soup cans to cars to movie stars and their movies. Pop artists used commercial art
techniques to create new artistic forms. Andy Warholwas born in 1930, in the town of McKeesport,

duplicate Marilyn s face. The uneven inking of the image translates her face with different
degrees of clarity, and the tilt of the grid gives the piece a handmade quality. Warhol does not
give us one Marilyn; he gives us twenty five. Perhaps he wants us to consider our obsession with
celebrities, or to suggest that more is always better, especially in the case of a celebrity with an
already ubiquitous image. Either way, Andy Warhol was able to alter the way people saw Monroe,
through imperfect repetition, he delivered a more human aspect to the overly glorified

text known as lexia. The Virtual Disappearance of Miriam is a story driven narrative whose primary
focus is the main protagonist s attempts to, and consequent failures at, controlling of the digital

path the reader chooses is largely dependent upon top down interaction. Martyn Bedford uses axial

Summary Hypothesis If a person participates in many daily activities, exercises early daily
scheduling, has consistently scheduled social rhythms, and partakes in activities with active
social engagement, then the person will self report that he or she is a good sleeper. Methods In
the study, the between groups design and the cross sectional design were used for research.
There were 243 participants between the ages of 18 and 39, and the majority were females and
Caucasians. The average age was about 21 years old. The measurements used were the Social
Rhythm Metric, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and the Beck Depression Inventory, Second
Edition. The PSQI was used to measure perceived sleep quality within the past month. Once the
Sleep Quality Index was obtained, the participants were categorized as good sleepers (5) based
on scale ranging from 0 to 19. The SRM was used to assess social rhythms. The overall activities
performed by a test subject, the number of activities performed involving social interaction, and
the number of activities involving minimum to no social interaction were analyzed. The SRM
also tracked the regularity of activities, so a hit meant an activity was performed within 45
minutes of the habitual time. The BDI II was used to calculate participants levels of depression.
Participants would be trained to use the SRM, then they would be given 14 days of SRMs. The
diary was to be returned after the 15th day. Thus, 2 weeks of monitoring would

The Future Of An Illusion Essay
An Analysis of The Future of an Illusion
In Sigmund Freud s famous philosophical work titled The Future of an Illusion, he uses
psychoanalysis to explain the origins of the concept of God. He presents valid arguments as to
why God is merely a concept created by humans to answer frustrating questions about life in a
satisfying way, and the work seems to be sound in its entirety. However, there is an important
weakness in Freud s reasoning in that if God is meant to create order in the universe, why does the
thought of Him create conflict, fear, and contradiction? Furthermore, though his psychoanalytic
explanation provides fascinating answers to why people believe in God, it cannot demonstrate that
God definitely does not exist.
Famous for his theories of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud asserted that all human behavior could
be boiled down to sexual and aggressive desires. In this particular book, he explains that humans
created civilization to prevent conflict, since there would be chaos if humans were allowed to
express their natural sexual and aggressive tendencies without a higher power telling them that was
wrong. The principal task of civilization... he states, ... is to defend us against nature (Pg. 15).
However, while a civilization governed by human beings may help protect its members from
murder, rape, stealing, cheating, etc., it is not capable of protecting its members from natural
disasters and the reality of death. Moreover, civilization itself causes problems

To Spen Yossari An Analysis Of Vulneration
As an emotion, I feel like desperation is often underestimated. There is a basic understanding of
sadness, anger, happiness, and fear, that society agrees with and can understand, but desperation
is a harder concept to grasp on to. Despite how it may be harder to correctly portray desperation,
from a toddler who is desperate to get a piece of candy to the most powerful man in the world,
everyone can relate. Especially Yossarian, even if he doesn t realize it, he reeks of desperation.
Not just Yossarian is desperate however, Scheisskopf, Nately, Cathcart, all of the characters
motivations are fueled desperation; it is a theme that resonates throughout the entire novel.
Nately is desperate for love. Nately longs for love in the midst of war, his longing is so great

Structural Suitability and Modelling of Glass Fiber...
Introduction and Literature Review Context Freeform surfaces prevail in contemporary
architecture. Over the past two decades there has been a surge in the use of smooth, curved
surfaces, which can be attributed to improvements in 3D modelling techniques and advances in
finite element analysis. The complex geometries, examples of which can be seen in the Figure ?
below, pose challenges in developing a feasible building envelope using conventional building
materials such as steel and concrete. This has therefore created a need to investigate the suitability
of alternative building materials such as glass fibre reinforced polymers (GFRP) to structural

Being a composite material, the properties of the GFRP are determined by: the choice of resin and
glass type, the volume fractions of the fibres and the matrix, the manufacturing techniques
employed and the material properties of its constituent parts. Much of the current literature
describes and highlights the variability in GFRP properties owing to the above [3][4][5]. The
most commonly used resins in the production of GFRP are polyester and epoxy resins, which are
both thermosetting polymers. This means that high temperature and pressure are not required in
the manufacturing process, making GFRP a versatile material, albeit a relatively expensive one.
Both of these resins were investigated here, with the focus eventually shifting towards polyester
resin. The two most common reinforcement layouts used in the manufacturing of GFRP are
woven rovings and chopped strand mat. Woven rovings are made up of long glass fibres aligned
in the resin matrix and interwoven in two perpendicular directions, resulting in an in plane
orthotropic material of increased specific stiffness in the directions of the glass fibres. Chopped
strand mats are made up of randomly distributed discontinuous short fibres which form a quasi
isotropic layup of

Mentos and soda reaction has been a fun experiment done by people across the world.
Yes, it is a easy project you can do. You can do it by yourself or with friends but, do you know
the science behind it? Do you know if it is a physical reaction or chemical reaction? The reaction
of soda and Mentos causes a fun explosive outcome but, why? When you drop the the Mentos in
the diet soda it causes carbon dioxide bubbles to form really fast. Then the bubbles form until it
forms a geyser. Not only the bubbles form the sticky and foamy reaction. The ingredients from the

According to Mental Floss, this is their explanation of why diet soda works better. Diet sodas
produce a bigger reaction than non diet sodas because aspartame lowers the surface tension of
the liquid much more than sugar or corn syrup will. You can also increase the effect by adding
more surfactants to the soda when you add the Mentos, like adding a mixture of dishwasher

Contrasting Ideologies Of Rousseau And Diderot

Contrasting Ideologies of Rousseau and Diderot
As a student attending the Academy of Dijon in the 18th century, it is clear as to why our class
has been assigned the task of explaining the works of two of the most influential thinkers of the
time, Rousseau and Diderot. The two have collaborated on past works and do have some ideas
that pertain similarly to one another, although there are also ideas that seem to clash. In this essay,
I will look to examine the stances of the two individuals (who were friends living together in Paris
at one point) regarding the social origins of inequality and explain in what sense they share a
likeness, as well as the instances where the two disagree. First off, Rousseau believed that there are
two kinds of inequality among the human species; one, which he calls natural or physical, because
it is established by nature, and consists in a difference of age, health, bodily strength, and the
qualities of the mind or of the soul. And another, which may be called moral or political
inequality, because it depends on a kind of convention, and is established, or at least authorised by
the consent of men. The invention of property and the division of labor represent the beginning of
moral inequality. Property allows for the domination and exploitation of the poor by the rich.
Initially, however, relations between rich and poor are dangerous and unstable, leading to a

ABSTRACT
The aim of this report is to present the numerical analysis of human head response in a car
accident in the sagittal plane. This is achieved by making oneself aware of the dynamic loading
that arises at the instant accident occurs and the response of the human head to such loading. The
response is usually biomechanical, which can be studied in terms of head acceleration due to the

To predict head responses which cannot be estimated accurately by an experimental approach,
several FE head models, ranging from simple 2 dimension models to complex 3 dimension
models have been developed [4 5]. Just one predetermined specific condition can be analysed by
each type of model. Moreover, some of the adjustments made by researchers to simplify
calculations which have many a times, compromised the accuracy of the results are simplified
material models (linear elasticity), idealized geometries, or geometries of a 50th percentile male
human head. It is suggested that the brain s mechanical response is altered by the size of the head,
the central fissure and sulcus, the tentorium and Dura matter. Hence, these components have to be
taken into account. The shape of the skull, the composition of gray and white matter, geometry of
other soft tissues and the volume of cerebrospinal fluid vary greatly between even similar sized
tissues, so no two persons have the exact same response. Hence, a universally relevant head
response has to be derived to facilitate the car manufacturers to design counter measures.
With a specific end goal to fulfill the different safety and government security regulations, a
productive assessment and analysis strategy must be created. The most regularly utilized system for
assessing the inhabitant protection capacity of the specific vehicle is collision testing. It can either

to violence, hallucinations, and fear of being mishandled were caused by the media violence, was
explained in a 2009 Policy Statement on Media Violence, by the American Academy of Pediatrics
(Arline, 2012). The increase in aggressive behavior happens by watching violent video shows on
TV, and by playing violent video games.
The researchers found that boys and girls who played a lot of violent video games changed over
the school year. Media violence is not probable to convert a child into a violent criminal. But,
someday by just smoking a cigarette can increase the likelihood of a lung cancer. Likewise, a
violent show can increase the likelihood of behaving in an aggressive way (Bushman and
Huesmann, p. 248). There are many reasons to be worried about the level of violence in the
society, it is clearly simplistic and confusing to hold that the major cause of criminal

Comparison Of The Three Cabritos And The Three Billy Goats...
The Three Cabritos is the retelling of The Three Billy Goats Gruff with a Tex Mex background
unlike the contrary which have more of an American culture background. The author clearly states
at the end of her book, The Three Cabritos is my own original retelling of The Three Billy Goats
Gruff with a Texas twist (Kimmel 29). The background and the writing of the tale but told in
different cultures. In The Three Cabritos and The Three Billy Goats Gruff, the main characters
appearances are distinct, but the story follows the same plot line. The main characters appearances
being distinct but the same story also has a couple dissimilarities. One of the main differences
between the two stories is that the monster in The Three Cabritos is a Cupacabra whereas the
monster in The Three Billy GoatsGruff is a goblin. By changing the monster the author incorporates
the Tex Mex culture into the story.
Additionally, the cultural backgrounds are extremely different for example, The Three Cabritos
the scene is a ranch located near the Rio Grande filled with cactus. Also in the sketches, the goats
are cartoon farm animals and the cabritos are dressed in overalls while holding their instruments.
In The Three Cabritos the cabritos are given typical Hispanic culture names: Reynaldo, Orlando,
and Augustin. The purpose for the cabritos to cross the bridge is also a difference between the
two stories. In The Three Cabritos the reason they crossed was to attend a fiesta. The story goes
One day the three cabritos heard there was going to be a fiesta just across the border in Mexico.
Lets Go! The three cabritos said (Kimmel 3). They want to go the fiesta to dance and play all
night. In The Three Billy Goats Gruff takes place on a field of trees and flowers that surround a
meadow. In The Three Billy Goats Gruff exact names are not given, just Little Billy GoatGruff,
Middle Billy Goat Gruff, and Great Big Billy Goat Gruff. The reason for crossing the bridge was,
that they were eating all the grass on their side and they needed more. The story reads, Yes , said
his big brother, Great Big Billy Goat Gruff. All we have to do is cross the wooden bridge, and we
can eat to our hearts content (Randall 3).

Accountability Is The Foundation For Humanitarian Aid
Accountability is the foundation for humanitarian aid because it dictates the level of effectiveness
of the response. Also, it allows humanitarian agencies to manage risk in disastrous situations and
affected populations. As defined by HAP, Accountability is the means through which power is
used responsibly. It is a process of taking into account the views of, and being held accountable by
different stakeholders, and primarily the people affected by authority or power (HAP, 2010). HAP
clarifies that when referring to power and accountability, it does not mean that the agencies have
power over the community. However, the agencies have the responsibility to control the way power
is used within these crisis affected populations. Regardless,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The example of Typhoon Haiyan response upholds how a more organized and relevant approach to
approving AAP will initiate more support of networks. Aside from the Haiyan response, there are
have been other attempts at improving accountability within humanitarian agencies. Another
example is the Pakistan Accountability Learning Working Group (ALWG) is a way to link
accountability both globally and locally. Lastly, Sierra Leone is an example of how humanitarian
agencies attempt to collect data about the affected areas in hopes of a more comprehensive
approach. In order to develop better accountability methods, it must have a consolidated approach,
which means that the agencies must understand the area they are serving. Humanitarian agencies
should have the intentions of listening and responding to the needs of these affected areas,
listening is not adequate. By having a more consolidated approach, the agencies are able to obtain
data about the crisis areas, and with this data they can provide a more realistic approach.

Notes On Sound And Noise
2.1SOUND AND NOISE:
Sound is the variation of pressure in an elastic medium (such as air) caused by a mechanical
disturbance. The movement of molecules in a transmitting medium caused by a disturbance results
in pressure oscillations above (compressions) and below (rarefactions) the ambient pressure level.
The oscillation of sound pressure variations is referred to as a sound wave. A sound wave will
move through an ideal medium longitudinally and omnidirectionally. The oscillation frequency of a
sound wave determines the pitch of a sound, which is measured in Hertz (Hz). The healthy human
ear can typically discern frequencies between 20 and 20,000 Hz. The amplitude of the pressure
oscillations of a sound wave describes the amount of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hard surfaces such as smooth wood or metal often reflect sound waves well but attenuate sound
poorly. Conversely, soft, porous surfaces usually reflect sound waves poorly but attenuate sound
waves well. Reflected sound waves can increase the overall SPL in an area, as the reflected
wave essentially becomes an additional sound source. Sound behaves predictably in the far field
(i.e., far enough away from individual sound sources relative to the size of the sound sources) and
most sound measurement equipment can only accurately measure SPLs in the far field. The
measurement of sound generated by a source within a reflective chamber (reverberant field) is
more difficult because the large number of reflections increase the overall SPL if the measurement
is also made within the reflective chamber. SPLs measured in the reverberant field of the ear
cannot directly be compared to SPLs in the free field without first compensating for the higher
SPLs at certain frequencies caused by the resonance of the ear canal.
2.2AUDITION:
Audition, or the perception of sound, is accomplished via the complex transformation from sound
pressure waves to electrical nerve impulses and interpretation in the brain. The human ear is
divided into three main parts; the outer ear, the middle ear, and the inner ear (see Figure 2.1). The
outer ear consists of the pinna (or auricle), which is the visible portion of

First Impressions Of African Americans
First Impressions It is amazing how a first impression can affect something. It can determine how
an entire culture is perceived. The first impression is the birthplace of a stereotype. A reference
point based on a minority giving off the impression that the entirety is the same. These ideas are a
plague to the human race that goes uninterrupted, and here is no greater victim of succumbing to
impressionable stereotypes than the youth. The first impression of the African people resulted in
their image suffering. Africa has been given the stereotype that everyone is primitive and living
in poverty. This is only a very small population but this idea of them being less fortunate has more
traction to the human mind. People enjoy pitying the less fortunate and let s them feel like they
are a good person. This seems childish and self centered, but it is a major drive in the human
psyche to be this way. The idea that Africa is full of mostly poverty is simply not true. That s only
a very minute amount of the population. There is much more... Show more content on

During the age of learning and growing into society is the prime time for stereotypes to be set
into motion. When a parent is raising their child, they are not raising a child. They are raising the
adult that they are going to become. Unfortunately this includes raising an adult whose mind is full
of preconceived notions and stereotypes. If humans as a species want to get past stereotyping then
they need to start by training the youth, because the youth is the future of the human race.
Unfortunately, big business and government officials use stereotypes as propaganda to push a
product or idea to the people. It is frightening how well it works, however. People rely on
government for the truth because they are the major figures that are looked up to for answers.
Government and big business know this and use it to their advantage for profit or otherwise suit

Small business owners often fail to grasp the understanding of the legalities of ownership and how to separate their business liability from themselves. This means there must be a legal structure in place to protect the investor from the mishaps or misfortunes of the business, aside from carrying a business insurance policy. State and county tax laws play a role in determining how the legalities of the business should be structured, as well. In many cases an incorporated business is often preferential over a limited liability company with outside investors. Both legal entities ensure to protect the investor by separating personal and business assets. Being incorporated either way allows the RV park an easier avenue of attracting new investors, raising capital, and if necessary, allowing a more manageable transfer of ownership. There are some differences between the types of incorporation, though most are minimal. Limited liability companies have options of four different types of tax treatment, whereas a standard incorporated business, such as an S corporation or C corporation is often taxed heavier. Some of the drawbacks for a business set up under an incorporation is the additional requirements for administrative details and record keeping. • 5. Essay on Offshore Drilling Offshore Drilling What is it? Drilling for oil in the ocean is one of the greatest technological breakthroughs in recent decades, and many new techniques have been developed to profit from the abundance of oil underneath the ocean floor. While drilling for oil has been around for hundreds of years in one form or the another, the effective extraction of petroleum from beneath the sea floor did not surface until the last forty years. The search for oil often turns out to be unproductive, but this practice is vital for the economic future of many nations. In order for any drilling to take place, an offshore drilling rig must first be installed. These offshore platforms can be situated in water up to a several hundred meters in depth. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These production platforms come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and types, which are dependent on the dimensions of the field, the depth of the water and how far the oil and/or gas field is from shore. The platforms are generally made of steel and fixed to the seabed with steel posts. These platforms harbor all of the processing equipment for the well and can house a maximum of 80 workers. In addition, platforms have concrete structures large enough to store oil, with gravity keeping them situated on the seabed Explanation of Drilling Drilling begins once the drill bit is lowered to the ocean floor. This first step is referred to as spudding. There are two types of drill bits: (1) a roller cone or rock bit which usually has three cones armed with steel or tungsten carbide teeth or buttons; or (2) a diamond bit, imbedded with small industrial diamonds. The drill bit is attached to drill pipe and rotated by a turntable on the platform floor. As the hole deepens, extra lengths of drill pipe are attached. (Offshore Drilling) The diameter of the drill bit varies from a diameter of 36 inches, which is used when the hole in the ocean floor is first started, to a diameter of 8.5 inches. The total length of a drill pipe is 30 feet. The time it takes for the drill to reach the oil and gas trap could be weeks. In order to move the drill cuttings ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although many farms in the US are small, most food produced and consumed in the U.S. is produced by relatively very few farms. In 2012, a small 4 percent of farms produced 66 percent of all our food. Combine that with large corporate control of food manufacturing and it isn t hard so see that the many levels of the ag industry are being controlled by large corporate entities which gives them lots of market power. She was brought up in the northeast part of Italy, in Udine, Friuli. She was born at the tail end of the industrial revolution, in 1896. However, you could say, by all means, that her village hadn t changed the slightest since the seventh century. She lived vigorously throughout her childhood, working endless hours in a silk textile factory to earn a cash flow and to support the family through starvation. Moreover, the other hand is similar, however, there are differences. It represents the citizens; it is feeble, strangled in wire and being controlled by the other hand, the government . To conclude, the textures play a key role in the development of the idea of power, as well as the contrast in lighting. Tina Modotti grew up in an extremely marginalised and poor environment. The way the government didn t help her family during their rough periods and suffocating them in to labour would have been one of the several reasons that influenced her. Equally important, her personal experiences of constant labour and hunger would have made her come to the conclusion of disliking the government. In my opinion, the way the government had no control over her dropping out of school and letting her go into child labour would have influenced her to produce works that comments on marginalisation in society, the depression and the repression of working class ... The advent of the modern era ushered in a great demand imagist works and garnered a lot of popularity, especially in connection to literature. War and all atrocities associated with it were important focal points for creators of imagist literature and reality had become a very important aspect to create an impact on the patrons of such literature. In this paper, a parallel will be drawn between films and poems to show the transition in the representation of war in literature from anti war and victorian sentiments to realistic depiction of war. In order to do so, I will make references to poems and films pertaining to the First World War and show the change in representation of the First World War between 1914 1917 and also post 1917. Influence of Modern poetryin representation of war was seen in 1914 and the following years very prominently. It took the occurrence of a world war for poets to begin looking at war for the horror that it was and letting its reality set in. A very prominent example of this is Channel Firing by Thomas Hardy. Rit Effect Essay If much of what enters consciousness does so in a reflex like manner, regardless of whether such contents are a product of high or low level processes, do representations during the process of refreshing behave similarly down stream? If this notion were to be held true, one would expect little to no difference in the reflex like entry of contents into consciousness from one point in time to another. This phenomenon is worth delving into primarily because decision making and directed thought frequently carries the connotation of being willful, intentional, and vastly different from what one might experience during the RIT. In more complex variants of the RIT (Cushing, Gazzaley, Morsella, 2017), participants would (a) indicate by button press the basic RIT effect and (b) press another button if the involuntary subvocalization rhymed with a word held in mind (e.g., stir ). Since the act of rhyming requires the retrieval of either the whole object name or, at minimum, the coda of the word, accurate performance ( .80 mean accuracy across trials) on this rhyming task supports the notion that subjects involuntary experienced such subvocalizations. Though the RIT has revealed many insights, the entry of unintentional contents into consciousness is not fully understood. Correspondingly, the many processes that give rise to the RIT effect are the result of a synergistic cascade. For example, in order for the effect to arise, there first needs to be the induction of an action set (e.g., to not subvocalize the name of visual objects). The final mechanism that results in the RIT effect occurs when the onset of the visual object activates the stages of processing that lead to the action effect of subvocalizing. Social Work And Social Work The Common and Separate Ground On the first page of Keith Lucas s, So You Want to be a Social Worker he makes note of how Christianity and social work share a lot of the same values, because of this the practice of social work can be viewed as a form of ministry. For example, most social workers, no matter their religion believe that all people have worth, and see a great importance in the showing of understanding and kindness towards them. Through my studies in APS 101, at Redeemer University College, I have learned that social workwas brought up by the Church; I never knew of this relationship. This new knowledge makes me eager to learn more about the field, and the ways in which I can use it to serve not only my neighbors, but God himself, through its missionary characteristics. This text has shown me that my beliefs impact the way I see the world, the people in it, and that my thoughts and actions are inevitably affected by them. As I move deeper into my studies, I am learning the importance of this, and of bringing my whole self into whatever situations I face. Societal values are constantly changing, but Christian values remain firm, as they are planted with biblical roots (Keith Lucas, 1987, p.3). The Ice Hotel And The Travelodge Introduction For a long time researchers are trying to find the perfect recipe for success, however it is very hard to predict the response of the market to a new product and its adaptation to the environment. The Ice Hotel and the Travelodge are two ventures established in the end of 20th century both in the travel and hospitality sector but each one with its own unique business strategy. In evaluation of their success the decisions made throughout the development of the above mentioned ventures can be categorized as effectual and causal, as explained by Sarasvathy (2010). G.Sanvikarja suggests that causational logic is more rational and based on prediction where as the effectual strategy is more creative and is control orientated. Each of these approaches implies different strategies and reasoning behind both individual decisions and responsiveness to the environment. Furthermore, most enterprises follow a set of common principles that are key for building a business strategy including defining means, setting affordable loss, leveraging contingencies and forming partnerships (S. et. al, 2010). These four aspects are crucial for understanding how is a business created and what is its approach. However, it should be noted that most of the businesses are not strictly effectual or causal, rather a mixture of both with a tilt towards one. Internship Interflection My end of internship impression of Menards has changed a lot over the duration of my time in many ways that the corporate office does actually care about its team member by offering a benefits package, offering team members on weeks adding an extra $2.50 to the hourly wage, whenever a national holiday comes around John MenardsJr. will send a letter with a card that offer you to buy something in the store for free or offers a check that can be used in the store, and every team member also can receive a 10% discount on any purchase with the store too. • 22. Gospel Of Wealth And Poverty Analysis During the time of World War I, the United States was dealing with a lot of internal problems. At the time before the war, Darwinism is very prominent. The working class looked to those in poverty as if they were the scum of the earth. Then there was the gospel of wealth. The gospel of wealth believed the things that you have is a divine blessing and has favor in the eyes of God (Roark, Johnson, Cohen, Stage, Hartmann, 2014, p.563). While the working class enjoyed themselves those in povertywas trying to make a living. Those in poverty could of ran to a settlement house. Settlement houses were sent up in poor neighborhoods to help with the progressivism (Roark, Johnson, Cohen, Stage, Hartmann, 2014, p.563). • 23. Factors Of An Authoritarian Government In The Movie V For... People should not be afraid of their governments, governments should be afraid of their people. In an authoritarian government, the citizens listen to their director because they have this fear within them, that if they do not do what is asked of them they will face consequences. But in reality, the citizens have power over the government and the government is the one that is living in fear. At any moment someone can threaten the government. This has been seen through terrorist acts such as 9/11 terror attacks, and this has been demonstrated in the movie V For Vendetta. In the movie V For Vendetta, V attempts to bring freedom and justice into a society that has been corrupt from having an authoritarian government. He threatens the government and tells them a year in advance that he will blow up the most important building in their city, but the government was not able to stop him. V wanted the city of London, England to have freedom and rights, free press, and to no longer have to live in fake fear, all three which are factors of an authoritarian government. In V For Vendetta, it is displayed that the citizens have no rights and freedoms, the media is controlled by the government, and that the government creates fear. The citizens or as called in an authoritarian government subjects of London do not have any rights. They must follow the rules of the government, and if they do not there will be a corollary. • 24. New Start Reflection This summer I had the opportunity to do New Start a program for incoming freshmen at the University of Arizona. The program is to support the transition from high school to college and throughout the program you gain knowledge and tips not only just about the college but about yourself. Using tools from class activities like SWOT and True Colors that helped me really understand who I am and what are my strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Within this essay I will share with you my SWOT analysis and the things I learned about myself during the last few weeks. Strengths Personal values I believe speak a great deal about a person and who they are and I learned that my values reflect just that. During New Start we had an activity in class that forced us to pick from a list of personal values and narrow them down and rank them in order of importance. My top values included family, friends, school, and independence just to name a few. This activity was especially challenging for me but in the end it helped me really look at what truly is important to me. I had to apply this lesson from class in my life sooner than I expected. My grandmother passed away during New Start and I had to decide if I wanted to miss school and be with family but that also meant by missing school I d be missing out on important information. In the end I choose to go to school the next day and be with my family afterwards. That decision alone was very hard because in a situation such as mine there was a conflict of my personal values my family is very important to me but school is just as important to me. Although it was difficult for me to make that decision but the fact I had the ability to choose between two of my own personal values is why I ve chosen to place knowing and understanding my personal values as a strength. I know that throughout life there will be times when I will have to choose once again between my personal values and as student like I ve mentioned earlier I m going to make those decisions based on what matters to me and what won t always be there in the end. Another strength I have is goal setting towards the end of high school coming into this summer my top goal was to get a job. I ve tried my best to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His window advertisements were the beginning of an era, where art would be seen in an array of forms away from the traditional paintings and sculptures of the old world. He made people see everyday material objects in a whole new light; through Pop Arthe could transform mundane into extraordinary. He was a working man, a social climber, a builder, an acquirer of goods, and a known homosexual. These attributes all contributed to the interesting and complicated nature of his art. One of the most significant decades in 20th century art, the 1960s saw the rise of Pop Art, Op Art, Minimalism, Conceptual Art, Performance Art, and Feminist Art, among countless other styles and movements. Artists began to notice that American culture was filled with commercial images: on television and billboards, and in magazines and newspapers, commercial art was used to sell everything from dish scrubbers to soup cans to cars to movie stars and their movies. Summary Hypothesis If a person participates in many daily activities, exercises early daily scheduling, has consistently scheduled social rhythms, and partakes in activities with active social engagement, then the person will self report that he or she is a good sleeper. Methods In the study, the between groups design and the cross sectional design were used for research. There were 243 participants between the ages of 18 and 39, and the majority were females and Caucasians. The average age was about 21 years old. The measurements used were the Social Rhythm Metric, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and the Beck Depression Inventory, Second Edition. The PSQI was used to measure perceived sleep quality within the past month. Once the Sleep Quality Index was obtained, the participants were categorized as good sleepers (5) based on scale ranging from 0 to 19. The SRM was used to assess social rhythms. The overall activities performed by a test subject, the number of activities performed involving social interaction, and the number of activities involving minimum to no social interaction were analyzed. The SRM also tracked the regularity of activities, so a hit meant an activity was performed within 45 minutes of the habitual time. The BDI II was used to calculate participants levels of depression. • 30. The Future Of An Illusion Essay An Analysis of The Future of an Illusion In Sigmund Freud s famous philosophical work titled The Future of an Illusion, he uses psychoanalysis to explain the origins of the concept of God. He presents valid arguments as to why God is merely a concept created by humans to answer frustrating questions about life in a satisfying way, and the work seems to be sound in its entirety. However, there is an important weakness in Freud s reasoning in that if God is meant to create order in the universe, why does the thought of Him create conflict, fear, and contradiction? Furthermore, though his psychoanalytic explanation provides fascinating answers to why people believe in God, it cannot demonstrate that God definitely does not exist. Famous for his theories of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud asserted that all human behavior could be boiled down to sexual and aggressive desires. In this particular book, he explains that humans created civilization to prevent conflict, since there would be chaos if humans were allowed to express their natural sexual and aggressive tendencies without a higher power telling them that was wrong. The principal task of civilization... he states, ... is to defend us against nature (Pg. 15). However, while a civilization governed by human beings may help protect its members from murder, rape, stealing, cheating, etc., it is not capable of protecting its members from natural disasters and the reality of death. Over the past two decades there has been a surge in the use of smooth, curved surfaces, which can be attributed to improvements in 3D modelling techniques and advances in finite element analysis. The complex geometries, examples of which can be seen in the Figure ? below, pose challenges in developing a feasible building envelope using conventional building materials such as steel and concrete. This has therefore created a need to investigate the suitability of alternative building materials such as glass fibre reinforced polymers (GFRP) to structural design. In construction, geometrically complex free form shapes are realised by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Being a composite material, the properties of the GFRP are determined by: the choice of resin and glass type, the volume fractions of the fibres and the matrix, the manufacturing techniques employed and the material properties of its constituent parts. Much of the current literature describes and highlights the variability in GFRP properties owing to the above [3][4][5]. The most commonly used resins in the production of GFRP are polyester and epoxy resins, which are both thermosetting polymers. This means that high temperature and pressure are not required in the manufacturing process, making GFRP a versatile material, albeit a relatively expensive one. Both of these resins were investigated here, with the focus eventually shifting towards polyester resin. The two most common reinforcement layouts used in the manufacturing of GFRP are woven rovings and chopped strand mat. Woven rovings are made up of long glass fibres aligned in the resin matrix and interwoven in two perpendicular directions, resulting in an in plane orthotropic material of increased specific stiffness in the directions of the glass fibres. Chopped strand mats are made up of randomly distributed discontinuous short fibres which form a quasi isotropic layup of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Contrasting Ideologies Of Rousseau And Diderot Roy Forys Professor Holmes History and the Humanities II 28 April 2016 Contrasting Ideologies of Rousseau and Diderot As a student attending the Academy of Dijon in the 18th century, it is clear as to why our class has been assigned the task of explaining the works of two of the most influential thinkers of the time, Rousseau and Diderot. The two have collaborated on past works and do have some ideas that pertain similarly to one another, although there are also ideas that seem to clash. In this essay, I will look to examine the stances of the two individuals (who were friends living together in Paris at one point) regarding the social origins of inequality and explain in what sense they share a likeness, as well as the instances where the two disagree. First off, Rousseau believed that there are two kinds of inequality among the human species; one, which he calls natural or physical, because it is established by nature, and consists in a difference of age, health, bodily strength, and the qualities of the mind or of the soul. And another, which may be called moral or political inequality, because it depends on a kind of convention, and is established, or at least authorised by the consent of men. The invention of property and the division of labor represent the beginning of moral inequality. Property allows for the domination and exploitation of the poor by the rich. To predict head responses which cannot be estimated accurately by an experimental approach, several FE head models, ranging from simple 2 dimension models to complex 3 dimension models have been developed [4 5]. Moreover, some of the adjustments made by researchers to simplify calculations which have many a times, compromised the accuracy of the results are simplified material models (linear elasticity), idealized geometries, or geometries of a 50th percentile male human head. Violence in the media will never be stopped as long as the society spends more time on violent movies and video games. Media violence has been tremendously growing and attaining the hazardous extents. Around 60 % of TV shows contain some kind of violence. Most self involving video games contain some violent matter in it. For example, if you manufacture guns, you do not need to give any advertisement, because it is done by the amusement industry. Aggressive behavior, desensitization to violence, hallucinations, and fear of being mishandled were caused by the media violence, was explained in a 2009 Policy Statement on Media Violence, by the American Academy of Pediatrics (Arline, 2012). The increase in aggressive behavior happens by watching violent video shows on TV, and by playing violent video games. The researchers found that boys and girls who played a lot of violent video games changed over the school year. Media violence is not probable to convert a child into a violent criminal. The Three Cabritos is the retelling of The Three Billy Goats Gruff with a Tex Mex background unlike the contrary which have more of an American culture background. The author clearly states at the end of her book, The Three Cabritos is my own original retelling of The Three Billy Goats Gruff with a Texas twist (Kimmel 29). The background and the writing of the tale but told in different cultures. In The Three Cabritos and The Three Billy Goats Gruff, the main characters appearances are distinct, but the story follows the same plot line. The main characters appearances being distinct but the same story also has a couple dissimilarities. One of the main differences between the two stories is that the monster in The Three Cabritos is a Cupacabra whereas the monster in The Three Billy GoatsGruff is a goblin. By changing the monster the author incorporates the Tex Mex culture into the story. Additionally, the cultural backgrounds are extremely different for example, The Three Cabritos the scene is a ranch located near the Rio Grande filled with cactus. Also in the sketches, the goats are cartoon farm animals and the cabritos are dressed in overalls while holding their instruments. In The Three Cabritos the cabritos are given typical Hispanic culture names: Reynaldo, Orlando, and Augustin. The purpose for the cabritos to cross the bridge is also a difference between the two stories. In The Three Cabritos the reason they crossed was to attend a fiesta. The story goes One day the three cabritos heard there was going to be a fiesta just across the border in Mexico. Lets Go! The three cabritos said (Kimmel 3). They want to go the fiesta to dance and play all night. In The Three Billy Goats Gruff takes place on a field of trees and flowers that surround a meadow. In The Three Billy Goats Gruff exact names are not given, just Little Billy GoatGruff, Middle Billy Goat Gruff, and Great Big Billy Goat Gruff. The reason for crossing the bridge was, that they were eating all the grass on their side and they needed more. The story reads, Yes , said his big brother, Great Big Billy Goat Gruff. All we have to do is cross the wooden bridge, and we can eat to our hearts content (Randall 3). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Accountability Is The Foundation For Humanitarian Aid Accountability is the foundation for humanitarian aid because it dictates the level of effectiveness of the response. Also, it allows humanitarian agencies to manage risk in disastrous situations and affected populations. As defined by HAP, Accountability is the means through which power is used responsibly. It is a process of taking into account the views of, and being held accountable by different stakeholders, and primarily the people affected by authority or power (HAP, 2010). HAP clarifies that when referring to power and accountability, it does not mean that the agencies have power over the community. However, the agencies have the responsibility to control the way power is used within these crisis affected populations. Regardless,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The example of Typhoon Haiyan response upholds how a more organized and relevant approach to approving AAP will initiate more support of networks. Aside from the Haiyan response, there are have been other attempts at improving accountability within humanitarian agencies. Another example is the Pakistan Accountability Learning Working Group (ALWG) is a way to link accountability both globally and locally. Lastly, Sierra Leone is an example of how humanitarian agencies attempt to collect data about the affected areas in hopes of a more comprehensive approach. In order to develop better accountability methods, it must have a consolidated approach, which means that the agencies must understand the area they are serving. Humanitarian agencies should have the intentions of listening and responding to the needs of these affected areas, listening is not adequate. By having a more consolidated approach, the agencies are able to obtain data about the crisis areas, and with this data they can provide a more realistic approach. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Notes On Sound And Noise 2.1SOUND AND NOISE: Sound is the variation of pressure in an elastic medium (such as air) caused by a mechanical disturbance. The movement of molecules in a transmitting medium caused by a disturbance results in pressure oscillations above (compressions) and below (rarefactions) the ambient pressure level. The oscillation of sound pressure variations is referred to as a sound wave. A sound wave will move through an ideal medium longitudinally and omnidirectionally. The oscillation frequency of a sound wave determines the pitch of a sound, which is measured in Hertz (Hz). The healthy human ear can typically discern frequencies between 20 and 20,000 Hz. The amplitude of the pressure oscillations of a sound wave describes the amount of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hard surfaces such as smooth wood or metal often reflect sound waves well but attenuate sound poorly. Conversely, soft, porous surfaces usually reflect sound waves poorly but attenuate sound waves well. Reflected sound waves can increase the overall SPL in an area, as the reflected wave essentially becomes an additional sound source. Sound behaves predictably in the far field (i.e., far enough away from individual sound sources relative to the size of the sound sources) and most sound measurement equipment can only accurately measure SPLs in the far field. The measurement of sound generated by a source within a reflective chamber (reverberant field) is more difficult because the large number of reflections increase the overall SPL if the measurement is also made within the reflective chamber. SPLs measured in the reverberant field of the ear cannot directly be compared to SPLs in the free field without first compensating for the higher SPLs at certain frequencies caused by the resonance of the ear canal. 2.2AUDITION: Audition, or the perception of sound, is accomplished via the complex transformation from sound pressure waves to electrical nerve impulses and interpretation in the brain. The human ear is divided into three main parts; the outer ear, the middle ear, and the inner ear (see Figure 2.1). The outer ear consists of the pinna (or auricle), which is the visible portion of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. First Impressions Of African Americans First Impressions It is amazing how a first impression can affect something. It can determine how an entire culture is perceived. The first impression is the birthplace of a stereotype. A reference point based on a minority giving off the impression that the entirety is the same. These ideas are a plague to the human race that goes uninterrupted, and here is no greater victim of succumbing to impressionable stereotypes than the youth. The first impression of the African people resulted in their image suffering. Africa has been given the stereotype that everyone is primitive and living in poverty. This is only a very small population but this idea of them being less fortunate has more traction to the human mind. People enjoy pitying the less fortunate and let s them feel like they are a good person. This seems childish and self centered, but it is a major drive in the human psyche to be this way. The idea that Africa is full of mostly poverty is simply not true. That s only a very minute amount of the population. There is much more... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the age of learning and growing into society is the prime time for stereotypes to be set into motion. When a parent is raising their child, they are not raising a child. They are raising the adult that they are going to become. Unfortunately this includes raising an adult whose mind is full of preconceived notions and stereotypes. If humans as a species want to get past stereotyping then they need to start by training the youth, because the youth is the future of the human race. Unfortunately, big business and government officials use stereotypes as propaganda to push a product or idea to the people. It is frightening how well it works, however. People rely on government for the truth because they are the major figures that are looked up to for answers. Government and big business know this and use it to their advantage for profit or otherwise suit their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
