A Report On The, And Crime, Fraud, Theft And Theft Of A...
1. Introduction Often retailers will overtly protect expensive, top shelf products, however this may
result in increased theft of less secure, bottom shelf goods. This incidence is referred to as
redistributive crime. Retailers prioritize the products they secure and those that they leave unsecured,
leading to an increase in the shrink of the items that were of less concern. In most retail companies,
there is a loss prevention (LP) department tasked with minimizing product loss, referred to as
inventory shrink. LP is implemented to reduce the preventable loss of a company s assets, like the loss
associated with redistributive crime, by utilizing technologies that mitigate theft and fraud. Retailers
continuously adapt their technologies to handle threats, but there are still numerous underlying issues,
such as employee theft, fraud, and shoplifting. Furthermore, the improved technology that consumers
have access to increases their ability to steal products like ink. This drives LP to make technological
progress to prevent further inventory shrinkage. However, there are budget constraints and efficiency
problems that arise with newer, more complex LP technology. Using a case study of the ink
department at Office Depot, this paper will evaluate redistributive crime and analyze the security
measures needed to combat such crimes. While doing this, I will pay particular attention to the
marginal benefits and marginal costs of the Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) systems in

It is very important to know what type of connection is suitable for the users to communicate.
VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) is a service that allows users to interact, send and receive the
users voice. VoIP is considered as a service and in order for it to function correctly; the network
administrator must consider the entire users situation. This service allows us to make phone calls to
land lines and mobile phones around the world over Internet packets.
Like anything else, VoIP has its benefits and drawbacks and ways to improve the service. A solution is
introduced as IRIS at the end of the research with a conclusion.
VoIP:
Voice over Internet Protocol has the same result as a normal telephone line but the main difference is
in the architecture design. VoIP services communicate over a digital network rather than traditional
telephone line. Data is being sent and received as packets . Packets are not encrypted and other users
might be able to listen to the users conversation. In this case the administrator needs to set the servers
default to encrypt the packets.
When two users are having a conversation on the phone, bandwidth is very important. Normally a
VoIP service that has been installed on a GSM network uses 531 Kilobytes/min (or 8.85
Kilobytes/Sec) of the networks bandwidth. From this, we know now this service cannot take place on
a 56 kbps dial up

A World Order By Jhumpa Lahiri
Nair attempts to interpret and relocate the characters from their succinct semantic images on paper and
re cast them as believable entities embodying social, economic and psychological baggage in an
essentially postmodern world order. In Lahiri s novel, a world order presents itself where people like
Ashoke and Ashima are subconsciously put on the fringes of the mainstream American society, in part
by their attitude and approach to the new, almost alien societal and cultural experiences and
circumstances and in part by the reaction to their reaction by the world around them. And this is
essentially a conflicting world order where there is an intent to adapt to this bewildering newness
around while there is equally strong a yearning for the familiar and much cherished roots. The two
characters (Ashima more visibly so) are torn, as it were, between the two worlds, and struggling to
conform to either! Into this palpable melee comes the son. The second generation of Indian
immigrants and a first born American citizen of Bengali origin who is bestowed with a name
borrowed from a Russian writer of repute, Gogol Ganguly endeavours to be efficaciously functional in
a space that might be essentially regarded as an interstice or gap between the American public sphere
as Nikhil, truncated or anglicised to the convenient Nick , and the Indian home sphere as Gogol, while
trying to make peace or strike a middle path with his baffling name and social, national, cultural and

Analysis Of The Article The On Liquidation Of Sahaviriya...
The article is centred around the liquidation of Sahaviriya Steel Industries UK subsidiary, which may
threaten a total of 2200 jobs. With the government refusing to offer financial support to the loss
making steel plant, it is important to find out whether or not this case is part of a larger
macroeconomic issue threatening the United Kingdom and what the best course of action to take is.
The plant s shutdown is characterized by the soaring price of the pound against other currencies,
which made its exports expensive as well as low business confidence, generated from UK s failure to
compete with China s low cost imports . Thus, UK s high exchange rate and low business confidence
will result in a decrease in exports and investment, leading to falling aggregate demand UK s total
demand for its output at a range of price levels in a specific period of time from all consumers,
domestic or foreign. From the diagram above, we see a leftward shift in aggregate demand from AD to
AD1, leading to a fall in the overall price level from P0 to P1 and a fall in national output from Y0 to
Y1. To produce at this lower level of output, fewer factors of production including labour are needed,
leading to an increase in the level of unemployment in UK. This article s situation is one proof of the
many job slashes that are to come. The next important step is to determine whether this unemployment
is cyclical and due to the periodic nature of the business cycle or structural, meaning

The Negative Speech On Famine And Drought
Introduction: (Charlotte)
We would like to begin by thanking the United Nations for giving us this opportunity to speak. Joining
me today are Julia Antony, Ian Rose, and Ryan Amer. We are here to discuss the large topic of famine
and drought. Drought is defined as, A long period of time during which there is very little or no rain
(First picture). These two problems alone are some of the largest overarching issues that our world is
facing right now and have been for centuries. At this stage, no one can ignore the fact that 110 people
have died in the last 48 hours at the hand of famine and drought. (Second picture) Not to mention that
in Somalia, more than 900,000 children are malnourished; that alone is more than the entire
population of children in Connecticut. Now over to you, Julia. *transition to next slide. Body 1: (Julia)
Thanks Charlotte. Extreme rain loss in areas all over the world causes intense droughts. Multiple
complications occur when water is no longer abundant. One of the most severe conflicts caused by
this terrible drought is famine. Famine, described as an extreme scarcity of food, affects over 6.2
million people in Somalia alone. We are still trying to work out how we ended up here, what we
missed, what we did wrong , announced UNICEF senior nutrition manager Peter Harris. ( A Famine
We Made , researchIT CT) Additionally, if not helped, it is said that over 100,000 Somalis will die in
the next few weeks. Little aid is being received in this region,

In order to understand the global consumers of L Oreal, they strengthened their global presence in six
regions; Europe, United States, Japan, China, Brazil and India. This enabled L Oreal to come closer to
their global market, as well as to gain the wealth of specific scientific and marketing knowledge of
each region. In India, L Oreal has its product development center in Mumbai from where it studies the
specifics of hair and skin types of the Indian consumers, as well as their expectations and beauty
routines for all its brands including Garnier, and an advanced research center in Bangalore where it
screens its active ingredients to address scalp concerns, hair breakage and pigmentation disorders.
According to Jean Paul Agon (Chairman, L Oreal Paris), opening a research and innovation center in

Further, L Oreal abides by the principles of sustainable and responsible innovation on a daily basis.

Phenotypes In Animals Lab Report
Introduction A study was created on the difference between phenotypes in corn stalks. We planted
corn seeds to see what phenotype they would result in and record the data. Using statistical analysis,
we determined the expected and observed color of the stalks. There were some green and white. The
ratio we tested was 3:1, a monohybrid cross. This means the dominant trait is present 3 times, and the
recessive only one (NDSU 2000). The objective of this study was to compare our expected and
observed phenotypes between corn plants.
Methods Our methods were fairly simple. To make sure our results were accurate, we used three plant
pots to plant our seeds. We labeled the pots with our names and their cross numbers. Filling the pots
with soil, we made sure it was damp and not wet by squeezing the soil out and packing it in the pot
about half way. Then, we planted five seeds and spread them out, so they had room to grow. Lastly, we
covered the seeds with more soil, also packing it lightly but tightly. After the plants grew, we
examined and determined that our hypothesized ratio was 3:1 with a sample size of 38. Our
phenotypes were green and white. We used a Chi square analysis to determine our hypothesis. Null
hypothesis: There is no difference in phenotypes between corn plants. Our alternate hypothesis was
that there is a difference in phenotypes between corn plants.

Eric Erikson s Theory Of Psychosocial Development
Developmental psychology is a study of the growth and the maturation of a person over time. How the
individual grows psychically, cognitively and how they are socially over time. All of these factors
shape us into the person new become. I have decided to study in and focus on Erik Erikson s theory of
psychosocial development. He takes a closer look on the choices that we are forced to deal with and
the conflicts they make during different parts of their life. His theory has eight theories, there are
different types of problems and conflicts with each stage that an individual will encounter and have to
resolve. It s important to deal with these conflicts that are presented to the individual during the stages,
because if they are not taking care of the individual will end up struggling with them later on in life.
Erikson has a developmental process that explains the development between infancy to adulthood. He
explains this within 8 stages; during these stages the individual experiences crisis which could have a
positive or a negative outcome on the person s personality. Erikson is known as an ego psychologist
focusing on culture and society and the conflicts that can take place with someone s ego (McLeod, S).
The first stage is trust vs. mistrust this occurs during the first year of life where the infant is uncertain
about the world and they have to develop feelings. The infant finds hope in trusting someone, and has
to figure out who they will choose not to trust. The

The Proposal ¸ Directed By Anne Fletcher Essay
One of my personal all time favorite movies, The Proposal¸ directed by Anne Fletcher, is a
drama/romance that illustrates two people who weren t meant to fall in love (Lieberman, 2009). The
following movie trailer assists in outlining the storyline of the movie and how a series of unforeseen
events can change animosity into romantic love.
From the beginning of the movie, Andrew and Margaret had a work relationship that embodied
intimacy. Intimacy, as defined by Kyle Hill, is [f]eelings of attachment, closeness, typified by sharing
secrets, etc. (Hill, 2012, May 18). The intimacy shared between Margaret and Andrew is due to the
nature of their career; they had spent [a]ll those late nights at the office and weekend book fairs
(Lieberman, 2009). As Margaret s assistant, Andrew handles some, if not most, of her personal and
private matters like the midnight Tampax runs and her appointments, Two years ago, your
dermatologist called and asked about a Q switched laser (Lieberman, 2009). Their work relationship
created an intimacy that typically is nonexistent between two coworkers or an employee and their
boss.
As the movie progressed, their relationship took on another component; commitment. Commitment, as
defined In The Triangular Theory of Love, is [a] willingness in the short term to create and maintain a
relationship and long term plans to sustain the relationship (Hill, 2012, May 18). The commitment
exhibited between Margaret and Andrew is not the

Why We Should Attend Notre Dame
Jack, you should attend Notre Dame because it is a small high school, it is a college preparatory
school, and it is a Catholic school. You should attend Peoria Notre Dame because it is a small high
school. Attending a small school is better than attending a large school because you will get to know
your classmates better. While you may not be friends with all of peers, you will know everyone s
name. Smaller schools also mean smaller classes. Small classes are nice because they allow a student
to form a personal relationship with the teacher. This relationship can be very helpful if you are
struggling with a class or lesson. Next, going to Notre Dame is wonderful because it is a college
preparatory school. Attending a college prep school

Analysis Of The Book Malcolm Gladwell
When thinking of successful people you automatically think about how hard people have worked to be
successful. In the Outliers book Malcolm Gladwell argues that we should look at the world that
surrounds successful people. For instance their culture, family, experiences, and their upbringing.
Gladwell has made an interesting argument about how people become successful. In this paper, I will
be talking about how Bradley Byrne, US Representative for Alabama became successful using some
information from Gladwell s arguments.
Gladwell wants to convince readers that different kinds of explanations of success don t work, people
rise from nothing. It really makes a difference where and when people grew up. He says, it s not

For the majority of Byrne s adult life, he was a democrat. During his political career, Byrne has served
on the Alabama State School Board. Being a chancellor of the Alabama Department of Postsecondary
Education, he served as the chief executive officer of Alabama s two year college system. The system
was full of many problems. It needed many changes to return to the important mission of educating
students and preparing them for the workforce.
Bradley s efforts have been very successful. Working with a dedicated team, the two year college
system was restored and the ongoing effort to serve students and the people of Alabama has been
refocused to its proper goals. In his role as Chancellor, Bradley also served as Chairman of the State
Workforce Planning Council. He oversaw all of Alabama s workforce development efforts. This gives
him an understanding of the state s ability to expand the workforce by encouraging a business climate
that creates good jobs.
In 2013 Byrne was elected to congress. In Congress, Byrne thinks of himself as an effective legislator

Liberation of Ireland
The 1916 Easter Rising
The Easter Rebellion, was an armed uprising of Irish nationalists against the rule of Great Britain in
Ireland. The uprising occurred on Easter Monday, April 24, 1916, and centred mainly in Dublin. The
chief objectives were the attainment of political freedom and the establishment of an Irish republic.
Centuries of discontent, marked by numerous rebellions, preceded the uprising. The new crisis began
to develop in September 1914, following the outbreak of World War I, when the British government
suspended the recently enacted Home Rule Bill, which guaranteed a measure of political autonomy to
Ireland. Suspension of the bill stimulated the growth of the Citizen Army, an illegal force of ... Show

Irish liberation from British rule was achieved as the result of a struggle extending over several
centuries and marked by numerous rebellions. Following the Easter Rebellion, an uprising of Irish
nationalists on Easter Monday, April 24, 1916, Sinn Féin became the most influential political party in
Ireland. This party, founded in 1905 by Arthur Griffith, a Dublin journalist, campaigned in the
parliamentary election of 1918 on a program that called for the severance of all ties with Great Britain,
an end to the separatist movement in northern Ireland, and the establishment of an Irish republic.
Candidates of Sinn Féin won 73 of the 106 seats allotted to Ireland in the British Parliament.

The Perestroika Reform And Glasnost Policy Programs
Under Mikhail Gorbachev the Soviet Union underwent massive social, political and economic reform
that drifted away from communist ideology and this ultimately lead to the collapse of the Soviet
Union and failure of communism in Eastern Europe. This essay will focus on how the Perestroika
reform and Glasnost policy programs as well as other external and internal pressures contributed to the
failure of communism under Gorbachev. The aim of the Perestroika and Glasnost reforms was to
restructure and strengthen the Soviet political and economic system and provide more freedom and
democracy within the Soviet Union while strengthening Communism. However, these changes had
achieved exactly what they aimed to prevent when they were first elaborated and led to the failure of
communism and collapse of the Soviet Union. While focusing on the policies this essay will also
focus on the major increase in nationalism that occurred in the Soviet Republics as a result of the
Glasnost. External pressure from the western world was also a factor and the role that the United
States and the Ronald Reagan administration played in the downfall of communism under Gorbachev
will be examined. The essay will also discuss how the disintegration of Yugoslavia and the 1991 Coup

Summary Of The Curse Of The Poisoned Pretzel
Do you believe that Skidmore is guilty of murder? Is Skidmore callous enough to murder his own
brother? An example, of a brother killing his brother despite the objections of his moral compass is
Cain killing his younger brother Abel. Cain was very envious of his younger brother Abel, and killed
him because God favored Abel s sacrifice over his. Likewise, the author, Paul Haven, strongly
suggests to his readers that Skidmore is a murderer, murderer of his own brother. Paul Haven uses
several direct and indirect characterizations of Skidmore to develope the perspective that he indeed
murdered Manchester, without ever stating that Skidmore is actually guilty. Ultimately, the readers of
The Curse of the Poisoned Pretzel can conclude that Skidmore is the murderer of his brother from
three main points Paul Haven makes about Skimore: Skidmore is creepy, hates Manchester, and the
ruling of Manchester s death is perposterous and raises suspicion.
The author, Paul Haven, creates the perspective that Skidmore is guilty of murder by strongly stating
that all people think that Skimore is a creepy person. As stated in The Curse of the Poisoned Pretzel ,
He gave everyone the creeps (Haven). Implying that Skimore was always a creepy person and is
mentally unstable, creepy. Individuals who posses these qualities have the potential to murder
someone. Likewise, Paul Haven mentions that no one in the story could remember seeing Skidmore s
eyes, implying that Skidmore was kind of soulless

Judith Butler Heterosexuality
When analyzing the matters of how sex, gender, race and class are implicated in sexuality, many
questions will arise. Furthermore, race class sex and gender are all separate interconnected categories
that have a colossal influence in the way individuals are viewed, perceived, acknowledged and
accepted in todays society. Many theorists such as Judith Butler, who is known as one of the most
prominent American philosophers and gender theorists, have developed ideas that support her views
on gender performativity, as well as the social constructions of sex and gender that govern the people
of todays society. As noted in the course text, New Sexuality Studies, there has been a revolution in
the study of sexuality. Sex is today understood as fundamentally social (NSS, xv). Throughout the
exploration of this research essay, following week six on Heterosexuality , in addition to various
sources, this paper will exhibit how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The course texts and articles used to support this research question will accurately portray that the
underlying problem may not be the privileged status of heterosexuals, but rather societies dualistic
categories that pit groups of people against one another (NSS, 259).
According to Judith Butler, societies that believe in a natural gender order are also organized around
the norm of heterosexuality. Butler argues that heterosexuality is the basis of a culture of romance,
marriage, and family that is enforced by our laws, government, churches schools and military (NSS,
11). Therefore, through this system of enforced heterosexuality that governs individuals everyday
lives it is comprehensible why societies divide individuals into two gender types, viewing men and
women as the only natural, normal way of living. In the article; How Sex, Gender and Sexuality

will impact all other areas of our economy.
Virtual reality(VR) is a relatively new frontier in the technology industry. So new in fact, that, at its
current stage, what it is and its potentials are unfamiliar to the general public. VR originally started
gaining momentum as a new platform to game on, but its potential must be analyzed broadly in more
than just one vocation. Because of the immersion VR provides, it has an immense capacity to benefit
the educational field. Everyone is unique in the way they learn best; some people learn best by
reading, some people learn audibly better, and, some people learn visually. This paper will analyze
virtual reality to explain what VR is and any drawbacks it may have, how and how much it is being
used in education currently, how it is benefiting disabled learners, who are able to have access to it,
and what a future with VR may look like.

Comparison Of Five Battle Rifles
There are numerous battle rifles in production today, with some performing better than others. The
M16, or AR 15, which has been the first line service rifle for the US Military for almost five decades
(Poyer, 2013, p. 1), and the AK 47, which has been in production for more than sixty years, stand out
as the most popular, most produced, and the most highly regarded rifles in our modern time. Both
rifles are similar in many ways and are excellent firearms for sport, self defense, and modern warfare.
Both have been battle tested in just about every conflict over the course of the last fifty years, are
currently used as the main battle rifles for a large part of the world, have at least thirty round magazine
capacity, are similar in size and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The AR 15 s operation is based on the direct impingement (DI) gas system. When a round is fired in
the DI gas system, gas from the expended round is tapped from the barrel and transferred back to the
firearms operating system via a gas tube. The gas unlocks the bolt and cycles the action to load the
next round. This process, over time, produces a buildup of residue on the rifles action which can
negatively impact its reliability if not properly maintained. In addition, under sustained fire, the gas
tube can fail if not properly maintained. The AK 47 s operation is based on a gas piston operating
system. Like in the AR 15, when a round is fired, gas from the expended round is tapped from the
barrel, but instead of being directed back to the operating system it is used to cycle a piston system. In
this process, the gas is trapped in a piston cup, away from the action, which forces the piston rod to
impact the operating system, which in turn cycles the action and loads the next round. With the gas
piston system there is much less residue buildup in the rifles action and no gas tube to fail. This gives
the AK 47 superior reliability and the ability to operate even without proper maintenance over
extended periods of

What Is Dance Essay
Dancing was my first love. As a little kid, I always enjoyed dancing. I was always chosen to join
dance performances in school. But, my family did not really notice my passion for dancing.
When I was in third grade, I was asked to join a performance on our community wherein my friends
and I were to perform an interpretative song and dance number. That experience was bliss and
priceless to me. Little did I know, that would be the start of something great.
After our performance, a new door opened to me. I was asked to join the choir in our church. Even
though that did not involve dancing, I wanted to join so bad because my friends are on it. But,
unfortunately, my parents did not allow me to. I was saddened because again, my parents did not

Dulles Despotism
In his speech to the Congress of Industrial Organizations, The Moral Initiative, Dulles warned

The great weakness of despotism has been, is, and always will be, its disregard of the rights of man.

The Challenges with Waste Diversion from Landfill in Scotland
The adverse degradation of the environment as a result of human activities such as the disposal of
waste to the environment in an unsustainable manner. About 70% of waste (controlled waste) is land
filled in Scotland .The need to develop more robust waste management techniques to ensure that
waste disposal to the environment is carried in such a way that it does not endanger human health and
the environment. Land fill contributes substantially to the rising greenhouse gas which cause global
warming. European Union Council, after series of public consultation with relevant stakeholders, set
up a legislation known as the EU Waste Framework directive (75/442/EEC) in 1975 .It was amended

In reference with the increase in population, there is also a corresponding increment of about 11 %
from 1996 to 2011.Rising household waste is associated with the increase in the number of household
generated within various councils in the WASG.The kind and amount of waste generated in this area is
highly enhanced by the economic, commercial and industrial activities. Employment statistical data
had shown that there has been a dramatic shift from industrial activities to more commercial activities
due to vast change in economic growth and commercial activities accounting for major waste
produced.
However, due to the low level of recycling and other practices in place to curb the wasted produced in
this area by local authorities, there has been a steady increase in the total waste generated which was
estimated at 5759 000 tonnes in 1998 with industrial waste taken the lead and the MSW accounted for
about 17%.As at 1998, about 96% of the total MSW were land filled while leaving about 4% recycled.
It implies that this area group largely depends on the landfill options for their waste disposal.
Approximately 60% of the MSW are transported to transfer stations where the waste are bulked and
shipped to landfill sites or incinerated. There

Structural Strain Theory And Social Order
Deviance, behavior that is outside of what is deemed socially acceptable, is necessary for stability and
social order in society this according to functionalist theorist Emile Durkheim (MindEdge, Inc., 2016).
Historically, society has generally been successful in providing motivation for individuals to aspire to
goals of some sort, whether through wealth, prestige or, perceived power (Henslin, 2011). However,
from a functionalist perspective, theories have been developed by identifying when lawful and equal
access is not afforded to certain individuals in the process of obtaining such goals. This restriction and
inequality to opportunity for access in the quest to achieve success is what is now referred to as
structural strain theory, which was developed by sociologist Robert Merton (Henslin, 2011).
According to Merton, structural strain theory describes the resulting outcome or motivations
demonstrated through deviant behaviors, that arise when individuals are unable to reach these goals
through lawfully acceptable means (Alsamaloty El Bouayadi van de Wetering, 2012). Over the past
year, I have been working to obtain a college degree, specifically in the disciplines of psychology and
sociology. It is my intention to utilize the acquired knowledge specific to such disciplines to benefit
those who seek assistance through the U.S. Department of Veteran s Affairs ( VA ) for treatment of

The New Terrain And Distance Viewing
Now, I will give some commentary from my experiences playing alpha 15. As I had mentioned, in my
previous article, I rather like the new terrain and distance viewing. I am indeed excited about the new
possibilities it offers for building things (as I rather like to construct buildings and make my own small
towns). I have begun to explore the buildings possibilities, which I will get into later.
The dynamic of progression for production has changed. The change in the steel perk, the increased
number of things which need the work bench to craft them, the new components, and the new things
to craft have changed things. It used to be that I could get the steel perk so easily that I could basically
skip iron crafting versions of things, and go straight to steel axes, and steel picks. I cannot do that
anymore. Now the requirements for getting steel make it so that I have to use iron tools for a
significant period of time before I can get the ability to craft their steel versions. This, in addition to
the items requiring mechanical and electrical parts give the game a more staged progression. Now
there are more rather distinct stages before getting to the best stuff. This adds a new dimension of fun
and challenge to it.
Though I would give some tips for trying to get to the steel production level. Invest early on in
resource collection and building stuff. The steel perks need a certain level in construction and tool
skills in order for you to purchase them. Also, building stuff

While Presenting May Be A Literal Objectification Of Slaves
While Presenting may be a literal objectification of slaves in Walker s work, this overarching concept
can also be seen in her works Untitled and Gone. In Untitled, the young woman is depicted as naked, a
common practice from slavery. During the practice, slaves were often forced to stand nude and be
inspected by potential masters, as if part of a crude, human dog show. The woman in this picture
seems vulnerable in a similar fashion, forced to stand in an apparently submissive state to the fully
clothed men and women beside her in order to have her work be considered at all by this high art
world. Gone s brutal caricatures particularly focus on this slave master objectification, primarily with
slaves serving as objects of sexual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Steer phrases it, the aim [of Brecht s pieces] is to promote an attitude of regional activism, an
ability to see things could be other than they are (Steer 639).
Brecht accomplishes a desire for activism by alienating the audience from his characters, or by trying
to free socially conditioned phenomena from that stamp of familiarity which protects them against our
grasp (Brecht 192). The hero is more a creation of a social and political atmosphere than a living
breathing character, and is therefore viewed as an object, something inhuman. Walker s caricatures
follow this structure, ranging from the slave men and women in Gone and Practicing to the young
artist in Untitled: all of them are representations of greater ideas, yet are warped enough in design or
position that they are freed from a complete pathetic connection. A type of historical fiction is formed,
close enough for us to grasp and consider the themes presented, yet distanced enough for the audience
to feel a desire to change things, as according to Brecht.
Walker s art is therefore an entirely new genre with this Brechtian lens, serving as a form of epic art
rather than simply epic theatre or political art. Through the objectification and therefore alienation of
her subjects with regards to the audience, Walker appears to be inciting a drive towards activity, be it a
simple acknowledgment of her themes or the creation of a spark for activism. Through the historically

Satire In Huckleberry Finn
Huck, the narrator of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, is young, naïve, and rather an outsider of
society; this allows Twain to impart stronger commentary on society. Huck s outsider status and
naïveté presents a forgivable narrator, one who saying something crass or shocking about society is
not a product of their character, but one of their situations. Readers are more apt to forgive comments
on society if they perceive them as innocent in this case that the narrator, Huck, doesn t truly know
what he s saying. Huck s naïveté allows him to convey Twain s comments on society based on his
experiences and without judgment, allowing the reader to form their own judgments, such as when
Huck wanted to smoke and asked the widow to let me.

Summary: The authors compare 2004 2013 TCs in the North Atlantic and East Pacific basins, using
IKE (TC extended best track data set) and rainfall (TRMM 3B42). The introduction defines the
concept of IKE and explains that a comparison of IKE in the EP and AL basins will be carried. The
following analysis provides the seasonal cycle of IKE and TC count, then shifts the focus to: the
relationship between IKE and TC genesis location the differences between the upper and lower

Why is the analysis focused on genesis (Fig 2 and 5, Table 3)? Is there a hypothesized difference
between AL and EP when it comes to the relationship between location of genesis and maximum IKE?
What would that hypothesized difference tell us? What does the seasonal cycle of IKE and TC count
(Fig 1) tell us that is new? Are there expected differences with Fig 1 from Misra et al. (2013)? If TC
size explains most of IKE, the fact that IKE peaks in the fall should not come as a surprise: Liu and
Chan (1999) and Merrill (1984) have provided analyses of the size of TCs and have already
established that their size peaks in the Fall (Sept Oct). Note that the direct assertion that IKE is more
sensitive to TC size than peak wind speed is nowhere to be found in either Powell and Reinhold
(2007), Misra et al. (2013) or Kozar and Misra (2015). In fact, Misra et al. (2013) state that the peak in
TIKE is associated with a corresponding peak in larger sized storms in September because they also
determined that there is a tendency to larger TCs in September. Kozar and Misra (2015) note that IKE
is also tied to storm size and the many different processes that govern it. Besides the geometry of the
basin and the climatological atmospheric state, are there any other effects that could explain the
differences between AL and EP? It seems that parts of the analysis were designed

Explain How Does Heart Rate Change With Exercise
How does heart rate change with exercise?
When someone who exercises a lot such as a person that does sports the pulse rate level rises much
less than in a person that doesn t exercise a lot or does sports. You can check your heart by taking the
tips of your first two fingers to press gently over your blood vessels on your wrist count your pulse for
10 seconds and multiply by 6 to find your beats per minute. You want to stay between 50percent to 85
percent of your heart rate. That is how you check your pulse.

Essay about Menstrual Synchrony
Menstrual Synchrony
Generations of women have noticed it: you and your sister, or your roommate, or lover, or mom, get
your periods at the same time. It doesn t always happen, but it catches the attention when it does.
Female rats living in the same air space ovulate at the same time. Menstruation in monkeys
synchronizes with the full moon (7). So is it all in our heads, or is the same pattern present in humans?
The clearest argument against the existence of menstrual synchrony is that since the length of the
menstrual cycle varies from person to person (2), two women with different cycle lengths will never
synchronize. They may menstruate at the same time, but the next month they will be a little different,
the next month more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was later shown to be purely mechanical, though, with the swinging of the heaviest pendulum
merely rocking the shelf a little and throwing off the beat of other clocks (1).
The most likely theory is some kind of hormone change. Women s menstrual cycles respond to contact
with men, becoming shorter and more regular. So rather than a mechanical synchronization, like
pendulum clocks, the cause is more likely chemical. In 1971, Martha McClintock published a study
about the 135 women in her dorm at Wellesley College. She found that the synchronization of
menstruation between roommates and close friends did increase after the women began living
together. McClintock s explanation was pheromones. She co authored a followup experiment,
exposing women to chemical compounds from the armpits of other women. She concluded that this
did alter menstruation (4).
There are a number of problems dealing with the statistics of this and other experiments, though. The
data can be interpreted to either support or negate McClintock s conclusion, depending on how it is
analyzed (4).
Why synchronize? One possible benefit of simultaneous ovulation for the whole population is
simultaneous birthing. When female rats give birth at the same time, their pups are significantly
healthier and more likely to survive. Certain times of the year may be better for births, as when lambs
are born in spring rather than fall.

Mildred Pierce Film Noir
1. The Film Noir originated in the early 1940s. These films highlighted the dark side of human
existence. These films focused on darkness, sorrow, depression, crime, and helplessness. One of the
first stylistics Schrader discussed was the darkness. The rooms were dimly lit, or the shades would be
drawn to create an illusion of darkness. The darkness served the purpose of creating suspense and
heightening the dark feelings the screenwriters seek to evoke. In the film Mildred Pierce, a majority of
the film takes place in a police station. The police station was very dark, all the curtains were drawn,
and the police officers smoked, creating a dark and hazy setting. This element was highlighted in the
ending scene of the movie. For example, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This aspect of film noir is used to emphasize the hardships or devastation that the characters have
faced in the past, enhancing the cycle or importance of the character s suffering. This stylistic
coincides with the next stylistic that Schrader discussed in which an organized timeline of the
characters suffering or hopelessness is applied throughout the film. Mildred Pierce s character went
through a hard life of being used and abused by the men she loved and her oldest daughter Veda. She
also faced some struggles such as divorce, unemployment, infidelity discrimination due to her gender,
and the death of her youngest daughter. Mildred Pierce exemplifies the organized timeline of suffering
for the main protagonist because Pierce had described her life of suffering through a series of
flashbacks that lead back to the ultimate climax of events and back to the police station. Mildred: It
didn t take me long that night to figure out that I was dead broke. And with Bert gone, it looked as
though I d stay broke. I felt all alone. For the first time in my life, I was lonely. There was so much to
remind me of Bert. How things used to be with us. And what great hopes we had (Mildred Pierce).

Milton s Inferno
In Paradise Lost Milton breaks down the universe into three layers: Heaven, Earth and finally Hell.
The top layer belongs to Heaven, this is due to the fact that God created Earth and as a result the
deserting Angels created Hell. The second layer is Earth due to its close ties to both and the final layer
is Hell. Milton employs contrasts in order to establish the perception of Heaven and Hell he wants to
convey to his readers. In Milton s universe Hell is continuously described as filled with darkness,
sorrow and eternal punishment for the demons that were once Angel s under God s command. In book
1 Milton refers to Hell as a dungeon horrible, on all sides round, As one great furnace flamed; yet
from those flames No light; but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Faustus Marlowe portrays hell as limitless. This is similar to Milton s portrayal of Hell because neither
are confined to a specific place but instead can be found everywhere. Mephistophilis establishes this
when he reveals to Faustus that Hell hath no limits, nor is circumscribed In one self place; for where
we are is hell, And where hell is, there must we ever be... (5.120 124). However, unlike Milton,
Marlowe doesn t classify hell as a state of mind. In Dr. Faustus a person s mind is not what allows
Hell to be everywhere at once, what allows this is the absence of God. As discussed earlier, Marlowe
establishes that Heaven is found only in the presence of God and wherever God is missing, there is
hell, Mephastopilis confirms this when he says ...all places shall be hell that is not heaven (5.125).
This further emphasizes the that anywhere in which God is absent should be considered heaven the
The only sure way to go to hell, is to denounce God, even those who have sinned can be saved as long
as they repent. Unlike Milton, Marlowe fights throughout his work against the concept of hell as a
state of mind. Faustus originally believes that there is no Hell, that it is simply a frame of mind which
is why he is so willing to take Lucifer s deal in exchange of getting what he wants. At the end of the
last act Faustus is taken by Hell and he finally realizes that what he believed about the existence of
hell is false and that Hell is as real as he is but the

Freedom acts as the main right in the United States of America. When someone compromises that
freedom, decisions are made to protect that right. Several opportunities testing the strength of the

biographical information R.S. was born in 1953 in Bronxville, NY, described as an acquisitive area of
Manhattan. Interestingly, at the time of his birth, his parents lived in New Jersey but were persuaded
by affluent friends of theirs to deliver in a hospital in a high class neighborhood. This was an
important fact to R.S. because he expressed that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
that seems significant to address is the middle childhood period. During this stage, the child begins to
start taking on more of a self concept. A child should begin taking the information and life rules that
have been modeled and taught to them in earlier years and acquire their own self esteem and be able to
start assessing their global self worth. Many factors can, however, impact these developmental
achievements (Papalia, Olds, Feldman, Martorell, Papalia, 2012). Erik Erickson described this
psychosocial stage to be one focused on industry versus inferiority. During this stage of the child s
life, the child must acquire skills that are valued in their society. When a child successfully finds that
they can master skills and have the ability to complete tasks, they resolve with the virtue of
competence. Significant to this period is the parents beliefs about their child s competence. In one
longitudual study of U.S. children, it was determined that parents beliefs of their children s
competence in math and sports strongly associated with the children s beliefs. Although this stage is
one when children begin taking on more individuality in thinking and carrying out tasks, this study
shows how much children are still needing positive reinforcement and encouragement from parents to
continue progressing (Papalia, Olds, Feldman, Martorell, Papalia, 2012). R.S. showed interest in
competitive swimming and because his father showed concentrated his support and attention of R.S.
in this area, it most likely motivated R.S. in a sport that he carried into his young adulthood

Material Requirements Planning ( Mrp ) And Lean Manufacturing
Over the years, manufacturing production strategies have continued to evolve. Despite this the
manufacturing strategies debate between material requirements planning (MRP) and lean
manufacturing is still disputed. On one side is the philosophy that MRP software is required to
adequately plan production. On the other side is the lean philosophy, which argues that these planning
tools are too rigid to reflect actual production environments and ultimately impede effective
production. This essay will assess if lean synchronisation is an alternative to material requirements
planning. Material Requirements Planning Principles MRP was developed in the 1970 s as an
inventory management system. The principle relied on conducting detailed planning to ensure that
parts and materials ware obtained in time to meet the manufacturing process. It was a major step
forward at the time as it capitalized on the use of the computer to generate the supply orders. (rf) The
use of computers allowed operations managers to track supplies orders, obtain secondary materials
and enabled precise stock levels to be measured easily. Now almost all MRP systems use computes.
This led to companies creating production schedules that focused on obtaining resources to match the
output level of production. (rf) Using MRP managers can determine what materials are required in
what quantity and by what deadline. This is known as a push system of inventory control and involves
forecasting inventory needs to meet

60 s Persuasive Speech
I am writing to persuade you that the Musical Revolution was the most important movement of the
time, and shall be selected to commemorate the sixties perfectly.
Many say the sixties was the decade that vibrated the whole nation. The Musical revolution was a
movement that has made an impact of a life time on our society, even still does today. I have been to
many music events including Floyd Fest and Shenandoah Valley Music Festival, the festivals I have
attended have made me have a new appreciation for the art of music throughout history. Many things
must happen to make music, and even more steps must be taken for the music to be popular and
appreciated especially in the sixties.
Throughout the sixties many things were going on. In 1960, John F. Kennedy was elected and the first
weather satellite was introduced. In 1941, the Bay of Pigs invasion was committed and the Peace
Corps was created that fell into the sixties. The following year The Beatles released their first single,
Love Me Do , along with the first Wal Mart being opened. John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963,
along with Doctor Whos first showing on Television. In 64 , the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was signed
into law creating equality. Voting rights were given and signed in 65 , and the escalation of the
Vietnam War, and the design of the infamous mini ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To be given the money for a monument to commemorate the Musical revolution of the sixties would
be a legacy in itself. The era of the 60s have had a huge impact on our world of music forever and will
continue to, people need to know where music truly started by making this event possible. I admire
your accomplishments and achievements to our world up until this day, and furthermore. I also
appreciate your time and thoughts regarding my topic, as you should know much more than I

Exploratory Manipulatives
Using hands on resources and manipulatives in mathematics is important for student s development of
mathematical content knowledge. Knaus Featherstone (2014. p. 12) state that through the
manipulation of objects in a mathematically rich environment children are able to achieve an
understanding providing a bridge between everyday concepts and abstract concepts. Furthermore,
manipulatives and play are linked. During play with manipulatives such as an age appropriately fill
treasure basket children are able to explore a range of objects shapes, sizes, textures, weights, lengths
and the mathematical language that is related to the objects (Knaus Featherstone, 2014). According to,
Connell, Shearer, Tobin and Harrod (2006) exploratory manipulatives provide students with the

knowledge, I will not be able to scaffold students learning and development. A way that this question
can be altered and approached was examined in The Department of Education, Western Australia
(2013) First steps Mathematics book. An example of this is by incorporating hands on resources and
manipulatives such as blocks in the pattern above, then covering on of the blocks and asking students
to predict what it is, once students have worked out what is missing you can work together to find out
what in next in the sequence incorporating questioning such as Why would that be the right piece?

Essay on An Inspector Calls by J.B. Priestley
An Inspector Calls by J.B. Priestley An Inspector Calls, by J.B. Priestly, is the story of the visit by an
Inspector to an apparently normal family, the Birlings. They are celebrating Sheila Birling s
engagement to Gerald Croft, who is also present, when the Inspector arrives telling them of the suicide
of a young girl called Eva Smith. At first they deny any knowledge of the girl, but as the play goes on
the Inspector manages to show that they all helped kill her. Mr Birling had her dismissed from his
factory for demanding a small increase in wages; Sheila ordered her to be dismissed from her job in a
shop simply because of her pride; Gerald Croft kept her as his mistress before leaving her suddenly;
Eric Birling (Mr Mrs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this way he can be seen as Priestly s response to Birling s opinions and he soon begins to tear down
the ideas that Birling thrives on. On hearing of Eva Smith s death Birling is at first dismissive of what
has happened, saying that he does not see what the events have to do with him. Birling also repeats his
earlier opinion on community, telling the Inspector that he can t accept any responsibility for what
happened to her, even though it may have been a chain of events. He believes that if everyone was
responsible for each other, it would be very awkward. When asked why he dismissed Eva Smith for
asking for a relatively modest wage increase, Birling tries to defend himself by citing financial
reasons. He is surprised when the Inspector asks why he refused the increase as he is sure the
Inspector will agree with him. Birling again shows his disregard for other people when he says that if
Eva Smith did not like working at his company she could go and work somewhere else it s a free
country This view is undermined when Eric points out that it isn t if you can t work somewhere else.
As the Inspector s interviews with the other characters Birling becomes more and more agitated and
stage directions to describe his mood such as bothered, angrily and sharply show that he is not in a
good frame of mind. He appears to be slowly learning his lesson but is getting very angry

The Ability Of Communicate Through Writing
Summary of the project:
The ability to communicate through writing has been imperative to meet various needs such as social,
professional and academic needs (Mahendran, 2013). However, writing is a difficult and a
complicated skill especially for students who are non native of a particular language, which makes it
hard for them to meet the writing needs in academic domains particularly. This difficulty is attributed
to the fact that writing comes at last as a skill in terms of its acquirement for both native and second
language speakers of the language (Hamp and Heasly, 2006). For the sake of facilitating the
acquirement of this important skill, effective and new approaches to teaching are to be incorporated in
the classroom practices. One of these approaches is Systemic Functional Linguistics, which views
language as a set of systems, each of which offers people choices to express meanings (Bloor Bloor,
1995). This project is two case studies of an EFL classroom that is based on Saudi Arabia with the
intention of improving the academic writing concentrating on two persuasive genre writings, which
are discussion and exposition genres. To do so, SFL is employed with its powerful analytical tools that
are helpful in educational contexts. In particular, these analytical tools examine written language in the
way sentences and clauses are organized as well as the way sentences are joined together to make a
whole text (Coffin, 1996; Feez, 1998; Rothery,

  • 2. A Report On The, And Crime, Fraud, Theft And Theft Of A... 1. Introduction Often retailers will overtly protect expensive, top shelf products, however this may result in increased theft of less secure, bottom shelf goods. This incidence is referred to as redistributive crime. Retailers prioritize the products they secure and those that they leave unsecured, leading to an increase in the shrink of the items that were of less concern. In most retail companies, there is a loss prevention (LP) department tasked with minimizing product loss, referred to as inventory shrink. LP is implemented to reduce the preventable loss of a company s assets, like the loss associated with redistributive crime, by utilizing technologies that mitigate theft and fraud. Retailers continuously adapt their technologies to handle threats, but there are still numerous underlying issues, such as employee theft, fraud, and shoplifting. Furthermore, the improved technology that consumers have access to increases their ability to steal products like ink. This drives LP to make technological progress to prevent further inventory shrinkage. However, there are budget constraints and efficiency problems that arise with newer, more complex LP technology. Using a case study of the ink department at Office Depot, this paper will evaluate redistributive crime and analyze the security measures needed to combat such crimes. While doing this, I will pay particular attention to the marginal benefits and marginal costs of the Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) systems in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. A World Order By Jhumpa Lahiri Nair attempts to interpret and relocate the characters from their succinct semantic images on paper and re cast them as believable entities embodying social, economic and psychological baggage in an essentially postmodern world order. In Lahiri s novel, a world order presents itself where people like Ashoke and Ashima are subconsciously put on the fringes of the mainstream American society, in part by their attitude and approach to the new, almost alien societal and cultural experiences and circumstances and in part by the reaction to their reaction by the world around them. And this is essentially a conflicting world order where there is an intent to adapt to this bewildering newness around while there is equally strong a yearning for the familiar and much cherished roots. The two characters (Ashima more visibly so) are torn, as it were, between the two worlds, and struggling to conform to either! Into this palpable melee comes the son. The second generation of Indian immigrants and a first born American citizen of Bengali origin who is bestowed with a name borrowed from a Russian writer of repute, Gogol Ganguly endeavours to be efficaciously functional in a space that might be essentially regarded as an interstice or gap between the American public sphere as Nikhil, truncated or anglicised to the convenient Nick , and the Indian home sphere as Gogol, while trying to make peace or strike a middle path with his baffling name and social, national, cultural and ethnic ... • 6. Analysis Of The Article The On Liquidation Of Sahaviriya... The article is centred around the liquidation of Sahaviriya Steel Industries UK subsidiary, which may threaten a total of 2200 jobs. With the government refusing to offer financial support to the loss making steel plant, it is important to find out whether or not this case is part of a larger macroeconomic issue threatening the United Kingdom and what the best course of action to take is. The plant s shutdown is characterized by the soaring price of the pound against other currencies, which made its exports expensive as well as low business confidence, generated from UK s failure to compete with China s low cost imports . Thus, UK s high exchange rate and low business confidence will result in a decrease in exports and investment, leading to falling aggregate demand UK s total demand for its output at a range of price levels in a specific period of time from all consumers, domestic or foreign. From the diagram above, we see a leftward shift in aggregate demand from AD to AD1, leading to a fall in the overall price level from P0 to P1 and a fall in national output from Y0 to Y1. To produce at this lower level of output, fewer factors of production including labour are needed, leading to an increase in the level of unemployment in UK. This article s situation is one proof of the many job slashes that are to come. The next important step is to determine whether this unemployment is cyclical and due to the periodic nature of the business cycle or structural, meaning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Negative Speech On Famine And Drought Introduction: (Charlotte) We would like to begin by thanking the United Nations for giving us this opportunity to speak. Joining me today are Julia Antony, Ian Rose, and Ryan Amer. We are here to discuss the large topic of famine and drought. Drought is defined as, A long period of time during which there is very little or no rain (First picture). These two problems alone are some of the largest overarching issues that our world is facing right now and have been for centuries. At this stage, no one can ignore the fact that 110 people have died in the last 48 hours at the hand of famine and drought. (Second picture) Not to mention that in Somalia, more than 900,000 children are malnourished; that alone is more than the entire population of children in Connecticut. Now over to you, Julia. *transition to next slide. Body 1: (Julia) Thanks Charlotte. Extreme rain loss in areas all over the world causes intense droughts. Multiple complications occur when water is no longer abundant. One of the most severe conflicts caused by this terrible drought is famine. Famine, described as an extreme scarcity of food, affects over 6.2 million people in Somalia alone. We are still trying to work out how we ended up here, what we missed, what we did wrong , announced UNICEF senior nutrition manager Peter Harris. • 9. Phenotypes In Animals Lab Report Introduction A study was created on the difference between phenotypes in corn stalks. We planted corn seeds to see what phenotype they would result in and record the data. Using statistical analysis, we determined the expected and observed color of the stalks. There were some green and white. The ratio we tested was 3:1, a monohybrid cross. This means the dominant trait is present 3 times, and the recessive only one (NDSU 2000). The objective of this study was to compare our expected and observed phenotypes between corn plants. Methods Our methods were fairly simple. To make sure our results were accurate, we used three plant pots to plant our seeds. We labeled the pots with our names and their cross numbers. Filling the pots with soil, we made sure it was damp and not wet by squeezing the soil out and packing it in the pot about half way. Then, we planted five seeds and spread them out, so they had room to grow. Lastly, we covered the seeds with more soil, also packing it lightly but tightly. After the plants grew, we examined and determined that our hypothesized ratio was 3:1 with a sample size of 38. Our phenotypes were green and white. We used a Chi square analysis to determine our hypothesis. Null hypothesis: There is no difference in phenotypes between corn plants. Our alternate hypothesis was that there is a difference in phenotypes between corn plants. Results ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How the individual grows psychically, cognitively and how they are socially over time. All of these factors shape us into the person new become. I have decided to study in and focus on Erik Erikson s theory of psychosocial development. He takes a closer look on the choices that we are forced to deal with and the conflicts they make during different parts of their life. His theory has eight theories, there are different types of problems and conflicts with each stage that an individual will encounter and have to resolve. It s important to deal with these conflicts that are presented to the individual during the stages, because if they are not taking care of the individual will end up struggling with them later on in life. Erikson has a developmental process that explains the development between infancy to adulthood. He explains this within 8 stages; during these stages the individual experiences crisis which could have a positive or a negative outcome on the person s personality. Erikson is known as an ego psychologist focusing on culture and society and the conflicts that can take place with someone s ego (McLeod, S). The first stage is trust vs. mistrust this occurs during the first year of life where the infant is uncertain about the world and they have to develop feelings. The infant finds hope in trusting someone, and has to figure out who they will choose not to trust. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Proposal ¬∏ Directed By Anne Fletcher Essay One of my personal all time favorite movies, The Proposal¸ directed by Anne Fletcher, is a drama/romance that illustrates two people who weren t meant to fall in love (Lieberman, 2009). The following movie trailer assists in outlining the storyline of the movie and how a series of unforeseen events can change animosity into romantic love. From the beginning of the movie, Andrew and Margaret had a work relationship that embodied intimacy. Intimacy, as defined by Kyle Hill, is [f]eelings of attachment, closeness, typified by sharing secrets, etc. (Hill, 2012, May 18). The intimacy shared between Margaret and Andrew is due to the nature of their career; they had spent [a]ll those late nights at the office and weekend book fairs (Lieberman, 2009). As Margaret s assistant, Andrew handles some, if not most, of her personal and private matters like the midnight Tampax runs and her appointments, Two years ago, your dermatologist called and asked about a Q switched laser (Lieberman, 2009). Their work relationship created an intimacy that typically is nonexistent between two coworkers or an employee and their boss. As the movie progressed, their relationship took on another component; commitment. Commitment, as defined In The Triangular Theory of Love, is [a] willingness in the short term to create and maintain a relationship and long term plans to sustain the relationship (Hill, 2012, May 18). An example, of a brother killing his brother despite the objections of his moral compass is Cain killing his younger brother Abel. Cain was very envious of his younger brother Abel, and killed him because God favored Abel s sacrifice over his. Likewise, the author, Paul Haven, strongly suggests to his readers that Skidmore is a murderer, murderer of his own brother. Paul Haven uses several direct and indirect characterizations of Skidmore to develope the perspective that he indeed murdered Manchester, without ever stating that Skidmore is actually guilty. Ultimately, the readers of The Curse of the Poisoned Pretzel can conclude that Skidmore is the murderer of his brother from three main points Paul Haven makes about Skimore: Skidmore is creepy, hates Manchester, and the ruling of Manchester s death is perposterous and raises suspicion. Furthermore, race class sex and gender are all separate interconnected categories that have a colossal influence in the way individuals are viewed, perceived, acknowledged and accepted in todays society. Many theorists such as Judith Butler, who is known as one of the most prominent American philosophers and gender theorists, have developed ideas that support her views on gender performativity, as well as the social constructions of sex and gender that govern the people of todays society. As noted in the course text, New Sexuality Studies, there has been a revolution in the study of sexuality. Sex is today understood as fundamentally social (NSS, xv). The course texts and articles used to support this research question will accurately portray that the underlying problem may not be the privileged status of heterosexuals, but rather societies dualistic categories that pit groups of people against one another (NSS, 259). According to Judith Butler, societies that believe in a natural gender order are also organized around the norm of heterosexuality. Butler argues that heterosexuality is the basis of a culture of romance, marriage, and family that is enforced by our laws, government, churches schools and military (NSS, 11). Therefore, through this system of enforced heterosexuality that governs individuals everyday lives it is comprehensible why societies divide individuals into two gender types, viewing men and women as the only natural, normal way of living. • 23. Argumentative Essay On Virtual Reality Technology: a broad term that can define anything that aids human s ability to complete tasks or increase an individual s quality of life. While technology is commonly thought of in a digital sense, it can be much more than that. All technology, however, has a potential to impact society in some way, whether significant or minuscule. It can affect many different tracts of our cultures around the world such as medicine, government, agriculture, science, business, and education. Education could be the most powerful, however, because of the weight it holds to mold the future generations and how they will impact all other areas of our economy. Virtual reality(VR) is a relatively new frontier in the technology industry. So new in fact, that, at its current stage, what it is and its potentials are unfamiliar to the general public. VR originally started gaining momentum as a new platform to game on, but its potential must be analyzed broadly in more than just one vocation. Because of the immersion VR provides, it has an immense capacity to benefit the educational field. Everyone is unique in the way they learn best; some people learn best by reading, some people learn audibly better, and, some people learn visually. This paper will analyze virtual reality to explain what VR is and any drawbacks it may have, how and how much it is being used in education currently, how it is benefiting disabled learners, who are able to have access to it, and what a future with VR may look like. ... The M16, or AR 15, which has been the first line service rifle for the US Military for almost five decades (Poyer, 2013, p. 1), and the AK 47, which has been in production for more than sixty years, stand out as the most popular, most produced, and the most highly regarded rifles in our modern time. Both rifles are similar in many ways and are excellent firearms for sport, self defense, and modern warfare. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The AR 15 s operation is based on the direct impingement (DI) gas system. When a round is fired in the DI gas system, gas from the expended round is tapped from the barrel and transferred back to the firearms operating system via a gas tube. The gas unlocks the bolt and cycles the action to load the next round. This process, over time, produces a buildup of residue on the rifles action which can negatively impact its reliability if not properly maintained. In addition, under sustained fire, the gas tube can fail if not properly maintained. The AK 47 s operation is based on a gas piston operating system. Like in the AR 15, when a round is fired, gas from the expended round is tapped from the barrel, but instead of being directed back to the operating system it is used to cycle a piston system. In this process, the gas is trapped in a piston cup, away from the action, which forces the piston rod to impact the operating system, which in turn cycles the action and loads the next round. With the gas piston system there is much less residue buildup in the rifles action and no gas tube to fail. • 30. Structural Strain Theory And Social Order Deviance, behavior that is outside of what is deemed socially acceptable, is necessary for stability and social order in society this according to functionalist theorist Emile Durkheim (MindEdge, Inc., 2016). Historically, society has generally been successful in providing motivation for individuals to aspire to goals of some sort, whether through wealth, prestige or, perceived power (Henslin, 2011). However, from a functionalist perspective, theories have been developed by identifying when lawful and equal access is not afforded to certain individuals in the process of obtaining such goals. This restriction and inequality to opportunity for access in the quest to achieve success is what is now referred to as structural strain theory, which was developed by sociologist Robert Merton (Henslin, 2011). According to Merton, structural strain theory describes the resulting outcome or motivations demonstrated through deviant behaviors, that arise when individuals are unable to reach these goals through lawfully acceptable means (Alsamaloty El Bouayadi van de Wetering, 2012). I am indeed excited about the new possibilities it offers for building things (as I rather like to construct buildings and make my own small towns). I have begun to explore the buildings possibilities, which I will get into later. The dynamic of progression for production has changed. The change in the steel perk, the increased number of things which need the work bench to craft them, the new components, and the new things to craft have changed things. It used to be that I could get the steel perk so easily that I could basically skip iron crafting versions of things, and go straight to steel axes, and steel picks. I cannot do that anymore. Now the requirements for getting steel make it so that I have to use iron tools for a significant period of time before I can get the ability to craft their steel versions. This, in addition to the items requiring mechanical and electrical parts give the game a more staged progression. Now there are more rather distinct stages before getting to the best stuff. This adds a new dimension of fun and challenge to it. Though I would give some tips for trying to get to the steel production level. Invest early on in resource collection and building stuff. While Presenting May Be A Literal Objectification Of Slaves While Presenting may be a literal objectification of slaves in Walker s work, this overarching concept can also be seen in her works Untitled and Gone. In Untitled, the young woman is depicted as naked, a common practice from slavery. During the practice, slaves were often forced to stand nude and be inspected by potential masters, as if part of a crude, human dog show. The woman in this picture seems vulnerable in a similar fashion, forced to stand in an apparently submissive state to the fully clothed men and women beside her in order to have her work be considered at all by this high art world. As Steer phrases it, the aim [of Brecht s pieces] is to promote an attitude of regional activism, an ability to see things could be other than they are (Steer 639). Brecht accomplishes a desire for activism by alienating the audience from his characters, or by trying to free socially conditioned phenomena from that stamp of familiarity which protects them against our grasp (Brecht 192). The hero is more a creation of a social and political atmosphere than a living breathing character, and is therefore viewed as an object, something inhuman. Walker s caricatures follow this structure, ranging from the slave men and women in Gone and Practicing to the young artist in Untitled: all of them are representations of greater ideas, yet are warped enough in design or position that they are freed from a complete pathetic connection. A type of historical fiction is formed, close enough for us to grasp and consider the themes presented, yet distanced enough for the audience to feel a desire to change things, as according to Brecht. Walker s art is therefore an entirely new genre with this Brechtian lens, serving as a form of epic art rather than simply epic theatre or political art. Through the objectification and therefore alienation of her subjects with regards to the audience, Walker appears to be inciting a drive towards activity, be it a simple acknowledgment of her themes or the creation of a spark for activism. If TC size explains most of IKE, the fact that IKE peaks in the fall should not come as a surprise: Liu and Chan (1999) and Merrill (1984) have provided analyses of the size of TCs and have already established that their size peaks in the Fall (Sept Oct). It doesn t always happen, but it catches the attention when it does. Female rats living in the same air space ovulate at the same time. Menstruation in monkeys synchronizes with the full moon (7). So is it all in our heads, or is the same pattern present in humans? The clearest argument against the existence of menstrual synchrony is that since the length of the menstrual cycle varies from person to person (2), two women with different cycle lengths will never synchronize. This was later shown to be purely mechanical, though, with the swinging of the heaviest pendulum merely rocking the shelf a little and throwing off the beat of other clocks (1). The most likely theory is some kind of hormone change. Women s menstrual cycles respond to contact with men, becoming shorter and more regular. So rather than a mechanical synchronization, like pendulum clocks, the cause is more likely chemical. In 1971, Martha McClintock published a study about the 135 women in her dorm at Wellesley College. She found that the synchronization of menstruation between roommates and close friends did increase after the women began living together. McClintock s explanation was pheromones. She co authored a followup experiment, exposing women to chemical compounds from the armpits of other women. She concluded that this did alter menstruation (4). There are a number of problems dealing with the statistics of this and other experiments, though. The data can be interpreted to either support or negate McClintock s conclusion, depending on how it is analyzed (4). Why synchronize? One possible benefit of simultaneous ovulation for the whole population is simultaneous birthing. These films focused on darkness, sorrow, depression, crime, and helplessness. One of the first stylistics Schrader discussed was the darkness. The rooms were dimly lit, or the shades would be drawn to create an illusion of darkness. The darkness served the purpose of creating suspense and heightening the dark feelings the screenwriters seek to evoke. In the film Mildred Pierce, a majority of the film takes place in a police station. The police station was very dark, all the curtains were drawn, and the police officers smoked, creating a dark and hazy setting. This element was highlighted in the ending scene of the movie. For example, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mildred Pierce s character went through a hard life of being used and abused by the men she loved and her oldest daughter Veda. She also faced some struggles such as divorce, unemployment, infidelity discrimination due to her gender, and the death of her youngest daughter. Mildred Pierce exemplifies the organized timeline of suffering for the main protagonist because Pierce had described her life of suffering through a series of flashbacks that lead back to the ultimate climax of events and back to the police station. As discussed earlier, Marlowe establishes that Heaven is found only in the presence of God and wherever God is missing, there is hell, Mephastopilis confirms this when he says ...all places shall be hell that is not heaven (5.125). This further emphasizes the that anywhere in which God is absent should be considered heaven the The only sure way to go to hell, is to denounce God, even those who have sinned can be saved as long as they repent. Unlike Milton, Marlowe fights throughout his work against the concept of hell as a state of mind. Faustus originally believes that there is no Hell, that it is simply a frame of mind which is why he is so willing to take Lucifer s deal in exchange of getting what he wants. At the end of the last act Faustus is taken by Hell and he finally realizes that what he believed about the existence of hell is false and that Hell is as real as he is but the ... • 41. A Method of Terrorist Prevention Essay examples Freedom acts as the main right in the United States of America. When someone compromises that freedom, decisions are made to protect that right. Several opportunities testing the strength of the nation exist, but these attacks have only increased the passion for freedom and security to protect it. September 11, 2001, was a day when over three thousand people lost their lives due to targeted attacks ( US Government ). An attack on an area with a significant purpose such as the World Trade Center invades the minds and hearts of the country s residents and changes its methods of functioning in the future. In an airport, several people venture in and out without a single person knowing who they are or their intentions. The administration ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... New employees can perform legal, full body searches and pick apart luggage ( Airport Security ). Puffer scanners are also in some airports around the country to detect any particles that could contain explosive materials ( Airport Security ). New governmental programs fail without assistance from the new employees. Another improvement within the nation s safety comes in the form of the new government programs. On November 19, 2001, President George W. Bush signed an act that would increase the safety in transportation facilities, such as airports ( US Government ). This act is called the Aviation and Transportation Security Act. The act allowed the federal government to keep a grasp on the preventing terrorist attacks ( US Government ). After the signing of the act in 2001, a new agency was introduced called the Transportation Security Administration, TSA ( Airport Security ). TSA is responsible for preventing high jacking or any attacks on the transportation system throughout the United States ( Airport Security ). However, their attention mainly rests on airlines and the high numbers of employees who work throughout four hundred plus airports around the country ( Airport Security ). In 2003, the Transportation Security Administration moved from the Department of Transportation to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Human Development Paper Developmental Paper The purpose of this paper is to discuss two concepts of human development and how each of them relates specifically to one individual s life experiences. I chose to interview and discuss specific experiences that shaped my father, R. Schein (R.S.). Additionally, I will explain the impact that risk factors and protective factors had on his development. Summary of relevant biographical information R.S. was born in 1953 in Bronxville, NY, described as an acquisitive area of Manhattan. Interestingly, at the time of his birth, his parents lived in New Jersey but were persuaded by affluent friends of theirs to deliver in a hospital in a high class neighborhood. This was an important fact to R.S. because he expressed that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... that seems significant to address is the middle childhood period. During this stage, the child begins to start taking on more of a self concept. A child should begin taking the information and life rules that have been modeled and taught to them in earlier years and acquire their own self esteem and be able to start assessing their global self worth. Many factors can, however, impact these developmental achievements (Papalia, Olds, Feldman, Martorell, Papalia, 2012). Erik Erickson described this psychosocial stage to be one focused on industry versus inferiority. During this stage of the child s life, the child must acquire skills that are valued in their society. When a child successfully finds that they can master skills and have the ability to complete tasks, they resolve with the virtue of competence. Significant to this period is the parents beliefs about their child s competence. In one longitudual study of U.S. children, it was determined that parents beliefs of their children s competence in math and sports strongly associated with the children s beliefs. Although this stage is one when children begin taking on more individuality in thinking and carrying out tasks, this study shows how much children are still needing positive reinforcement and encouragement from parents to continue progressing (Papalia, Olds, Feldman, Martorell, Papalia, 2012). R.S. showed interest in competitive swimming and because his father showed concentrated his support and attention of R.S. in this area, it most likely motivated R.S. in a sport that he carried into his young adulthood ... • 43. Material Requirements Planning ( Mrp ) And Lean Manufacturing Over the years, manufacturing production strategies have continued to evolve. Despite this the manufacturing strategies debate between material requirements planning (MRP) and lean manufacturing is still disputed. On one side is the philosophy that MRP software is required to adequately plan production. On the other side is the lean philosophy, which argues that these planning tools are too rigid to reflect actual production environments and ultimately impede effective production. This essay will assess if lean synchronisation is an alternative to material requirements planning. Material Requirements Planning Principles MRP was developed in the 1970 s as an inventory management system. The principle relied on conducting detailed planning to ensure that parts and materials ware obtained in time to meet the manufacturing process. It was a major step forward at the time as it capitalized on the use of the computer to generate the supply orders. (rf) The use of computers allowed operations managers to track supplies orders, obtain secondary materials and enabled precise stock levels to be measured easily. Now almost all MRP systems use computes. This led to companies creating production schedules that focused on obtaining resources to match the output level of production. (rf) Using MRP managers can determine what materials are required in what quantity and by what deadline. This is known as a push system of inventory control and involves forecasting inventory needs to meet ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. 60 s Persuasive Speech I am writing to persuade you that the Musical Revolution was the most important movement of the time, and shall be selected to commemorate the sixties perfectly. Many say the sixties was the decade that vibrated the whole nation. The Musical revolution was a movement that has made an impact of a life time on our society, even still does today. I have been to many music events including Floyd Fest and Shenandoah Valley Music Festival, the festivals I have attended have made me have a new appreciation for the art of music throughout history. Many things must happen to make music, and even more steps must be taken for the music to be popular and appreciated especially in the sixties. Throughout the sixties many things were going on. In 1960, John F. Kennedy was elected and the first weather satellite was introduced. In 1941, the Bay of Pigs invasion was committed and the Peace Corps was created that fell into the sixties. The following year The Beatles released their first single, Love Me Do , along with the first Wal Mart being opened. John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963, along with Doctor Whos first showing on Television. In 64 , the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was signed into law creating equality. • 47. Essay on An Inspector Calls by J.B. Priestley An Inspector Calls by J.B. Priestley An Inspector Calls, by J.B. Priestly, is the story of the visit by an Inspector to an apparently normal family, the Birlings. They are celebrating Sheila Birling s engagement to Gerald Croft, who is also present, when the Inspector arrives telling them of the suicide of a young girl called Eva Smith. At first they deny any knowledge of the girl, but as the play goes on the Inspector manages to show that they all helped kill her. Mr Birling had her dismissed from his factory for demanding a small increase in wages; Sheila ordered her to be dismissed from her job in a shop simply because of her pride; Gerald Croft kept her as his mistress before leaving her suddenly; Eric Birling (Mr Mrs ... Birling also repeats his earlier opinion on community, telling the Inspector that he can t accept any responsibility for what happened to her, even though it may have been a chain of events. He believes that if everyone was responsible for each other, it would be very awkward. When asked why he dismissed Eva Smith for asking for a relatively modest wage increase, Birling tries to defend himself by citing financial reasons. He is surprised when the Inspector asks why he refused the increase as he is sure the Inspector will agree with him. Birling again shows his disregard for other people when he says that if Eva Smith did not like working at his company she could go and work somewhere else it s a free country This view is undermined when Eric points out that it isn t if you can t work somewhere else. • 48. The Ability Of Communicate Through Writing Summary of the project: The ability to communicate through writing has been imperative to meet various needs such as social, professional and academic needs (Mahendran, 2013). However, writing is a difficult and a complicated skill especially for students who are non native of a particular language, which makes it hard for them to meet the writing needs in academic domains particularly. This difficulty is attributed to the fact that writing comes at last as a skill in terms of its acquirement for both native and second language speakers of the language (Hamp and Heasly, 2006). For the sake of facilitating the acquirement of this important skill, effective and new approaches to teaching are to be incorporated in the classroom practices. One of these approaches is Systemic Functional Linguistics, which views language as a set of systems, each of which offers people choices to express meanings (Bloor Bloor, 1995). This project is two case studies of an EFL classroom that is based on Saudi Arabia with the intention of improving the academic writing concentrating on two persuasive genre writings, which are discussion and exposition genres. To do so, SFL is employed with its powerful analytical tools that are helpful in educational contexts. In particular, these analytical tools examine written language in the way sentences and clauses are organized as well as the way sentences are joined together to make a whole text (Coffin, 1996; Feez, 1998; Rothery, ...
