Racism In Teens
The Power and Light District (PLD) of downtown Kansas City is the city s major entertainment
center. The growth of PLD and the four other entertainment districts (Zona Rosa, Country Club Plaza,
Westport, 18th and Vine Jazz District) resulted in greater choices for the community (AP, 2011);
however, it additionally became a choice target for juvenile activity. Crowds of underage youths
flocking to entertainment districts have been a problem for years in Kansas City. In the past, the prime
destination was the Westport area near the Plaza, where the under 18 crowd sometimes topped 1,000.
Law enforcement reported seeing children as young as 7 walking through the area well after midnight
(AP, 2011). These youth were primarily Black which resulted in accusations of racism; however, the
merchants responded by stating that race was not the issue, but these unruly youth were keeping
paying customers away.
There were recent numerous complaints in these areas of youth harassing and intimidating patrons in
all entertainment districts. Mayor Sly James took these complaints seriously and sparked an
investigation by initially visiting the Country Club Plaza. Nothing he saw in the first couple hours ...

Christians are God s social workers, so there is a heightened sense of responsibility in regards to
guiding the youth of future generations. God is the Supreme Psychologist and His words provide the
wisdom needed to avert and counteract the negative influences of this world. Counseling needs
Christian DNA if it is to call people out of the death spiral of self preoccupation (Powlison, 2012, p.

codified by the actions of language, words, and thought forms; Scientific evidence now supports this
and has proven that our DNA can be reprogrammed by words and frequencies (Fosar Bludorf, 2001, p.

The Economic, Economic And Economic Value Of Biodiversity
According to the National Geographic, a recent scientific study predicts that our planet is home to 8.7
million species; however, only about 1.2 million species are known (86 Percent of Earth s Species Still
Unknown?). The National Wildlife Federation defines biodiversity as, the variety of life (What is
Biodiversity?). It can be studied on a small scale, for example, species, or a larger scale such as
genetics and ecology. In order to fully understand the biodiversity of a certain species, it s imperative
to understand both their genes and environment, as well. Although many people do not recognize the
various species within our ecosystem as important, they are the main reason life is sustainable.
Biodiversity has extreme fundamental value to a healthy life and ecosystem. It is the framework upon
which we rely for our needs and well being. It provides us with food resources, such as fruits and
grains, as well as meat, fish, and milk products. Humans are dependent on biodiversity for cultural,
economic and environmental stability. For example, farmers rely on bees to pollinate their crops,
which allows for a greater supply of food and work. The economic value of biodiversity stems from
its production of many everyday essentials such as food supplies, medicine, and raw materials. A
healthy ecosystem can provide us with a source of clean water, fresh food, and clean air (Value of
Biodiversity). A healthy ecosystem can also withstand disasters and recover sooner. These are

Lord Of The Flies Individual Vs Society Analysis
A frequent theme in literature is the conflict between the individual and society. In Lord of the Flies by
William Golding, Piggy struggles the most out of all the boys with the society on the island. He is not
used to surviving in the wilderness, hunting, and taking care of himself with no help from grown ups.
He attempts many times to change the violent island society to the orderly society they had back home
in England, but the others refuse listen.
Piggy is dedicated to the ideals of order and civilization. He seems to fit in least of all on the island.
When they first realize that they have crash landed on an island, Piggy can not believe that there are
no grown ups, and asks, Aren t there any grownups at all? (8). He relies on the ... Show more content

Piggy s struggle with the society on the island is shown in many ways throughout the book. He does
not enjoy living out in the wilderness, hunting for food, or taking care of himself without the adults.
He is constantly trying to remind everyone of the rules and order they once had. However, this is very
important to the story. He keeps people calm, tries to enforce rules, and uses his intelligence to help
out. Piggy is very smart, and he is only one who does not become bloodthirsty and cruel. His refusal
to fall into savagery and violence like the other boys did shows that there is still good in the

Operation Shady Rat ( Remote Access Tool )
Operation Shady RAT (Remote Access Tool)
Vincent L. Harris
Webster University
Abstract
All indications are that Operation Shady RAT (Remote Access Tool) started in 2006 although it went
undetected for several years before begin discovered by analysts at McAfee Incorporated in 2011.
Originally it was thought that the tools and techniques used during Operation Shady RAT were highly
complex later investigations determined that the exploits used were previously identified and software
vendors has published appropriate mitigation procedures to protect computers and networks from
unauthorized access. The range of countries and businesses targeted during the operation highlights
the importance of proper patching and vulnerability management policies. Operation Shady RAT
differed from many other cybercrimes by not specifically targeting computer systems for financial
gain; it appears that the perpetrators were after trade secrets and intellectual property. There are
differing opinions on the severity and complexity methods used to compromise the computer systems
by security vendors McAfee and Kaspersky but those whose information was accessed without proper
authorization will attest to the significance of the compromises. There has been no attribution for the
perpetrators of Operation RAT.
A 2011 report by McAfee revealed a five year history of compromised computer systems that they
deemed Operation Shady RAT . Operation Shady

Examples Of Conflict In Remember The Titans
An important conflict in the 2000 film, Remember the Titans directed by Boaz Yakin, is the dispute
between football captains Gerry Bertier and Julius Campbell. The conflict is caused by a prejudice
towards each other s race as Gerry is raised in a white, racist family while Julius is black and a victim
of prejudice within the community.Because of this they are both repulsed at the thought of having to
share a room with one another. This conflict is important because despite the discord Gerry and Julius
experience throughout the film, they become best friends and work together to win the state
championship. Their resulting friendship displays what can happen as a result of overcoming
generational racism. At first, Gerry is disgusted at the thought of having to play in an integrated team
saying, I don t want to play with any of these black animals . At the training camp, Gerry and Julius
are forced to share rooms. In scene 6 we see a low shot of a racist poster Julius is hanging on his wall.
This agitates Gerry. Gerry demands that Julius take it down, stating, I ain t looking at that for two
weeks man. Julius argues, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

that Gerry is singling him out because he is black, Why don t you tell your white buddies to block for

soundtrack so the audience focuses on the conversation between Gerry and Julius. This,as well as the
rain falling during the scene, also adds to the mood. This scene i shows how the conflict develops. The
development of this conflict shows the audience that attitude reflects leadership. This is because if

Endangered Sophie Sparknotes
Endangered The book Endangered is about the journey of survival and the connection between a
young American girl (Sophie) and a bonobo monkey (Otto) in The Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Sophie s mother lives in the Congo and runs a bonobo sanctuary. While on her way to the sanctuary to
visit her mother for the summer, Sophie sees a man on the side of the road with a bonobo. She notices
how malnourished and how bad the bonobo looks and against the rules of her mother, Sophie
purchases the bonobo. When she reaches the sanctuary her mother is upset because even though she
had good intentions of saving the bonobos life, bargaining with the man Sophie inadvertently
promoted the illegal sale of the endangered bonobos. While at the sanctuary Sophie struggles to

The Democratic Republic of the Congo has had many conflicts. The people of the country are poor,
but interest is shown in the country because of mining. When war did break out the rebels enslaved
and took people to work in the mines. Also, with the status of the country, the bonobos are becoming
more and more endangered. This is in part because of poverty. The bonobos are being poached and
killed for their meat and people even use their body parts because of superstitions. On top of this, the
bonobo s are also losing their habitat. With an increase in a growing population more land is
demanded taking from the bonobos. Logging companies are pushing further and further leaving the
bonobos at risk for losing their habitat.
Overall I enjoyed the book. I understand that this story is fictional, but a lot of the references reflect
real life in the Congo. The country with a complicated past and the turmoil that can still be seen today.
It is fitting that Eliot Schrefer titled this book Endangered. It can make reference to the dwindling
numbers of the bonobos, but also to Sophie s exposure to danger while in the

Short Essay On Indiana Myotis
The Indiana myotis has a similar appearance to others of its genus. Body size is generally small, and
measures no more than 49.0mm, with weight ranging from 6 8 g. Weight measurements fluxuate in
winter due to hibernation preparation and are responsible for slight sexual dimorphism with males
averaging 7.1 g and females averaging 7.45 g (Thomson, 1982). Tail length is generally 80% of the
head and body length with terminal vertebra and half of the penultimate vertebra projecting free of the
interfemoral membrane (Thomson, 1982). Wingspread ranges from 240 to 367 mm, and forearm
length measures 36.0 to 40.6mm with female forearms being slightly longer. Ear length ranges from
10 14 mm and the blunt tragus measures less than 5 (Thomson, 1982). Furthermore, feet are generally
small when compared to others of this genus.

sodalis is nocturnal and crepuscular and forage over a wide area during the summer months.
Echolocation is used to migrate habitat and acquire food. Indiana myotis feed exclusively on terrestrial
and aquatic flying insects. The most common prey items include, Lepidoptera, Coleoptera, and
Diptera (Whitaker, 2004). Selection of prey depends largely on availability in the foraging habitat with
diet varying seasonally. Other arthropod groups which are consumed in limited quantities include
Neuroptera, Araneae, Plecoptera, Ephemeroptera, Acar, and Phthiraptera (Kiser, J. D Elliott, 1996).
Indiana myotis typically spend winter months in limestone caves or mines with very specific
conditions. Indiana myotis are generally loyal to specific hibernacula or to the general area near
hibernacula that they have occupied previously. Documented hibernacula are an average of 858 m in
length, with ceilings approximately 4.5 m high, with large entrances averaging 9.7 m in diameter.
Furthermore, preference is shown to hibernacula with multiple entrances promoting

Social Movement Research Paper
To begin, the footage of the police s actions towards people like Michael Brown, Kajieme Powell, and
many other cases reveal the need for the six factors to help develop and support a social movement.
First, if they want to have a successful social movement they must obtain structural plausibility.
Meaning, if they want to produce and sustain a social movement, then they should have a base or
rights and equal freedoms obtained from our Founding Fathers. The structural plausibility is in The
Bill of Rights as it gives Americans freedoms and rights equally. Second, the structural strain in this
movement is the police stereotyping people of color by placing them into demeaning categories such
as suspicious, dangerous, and violent. Consequently, this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Forth, the precipitating event that prompted people to begin this movement is in videos showing
police abusing people of color without a legitimate reason. Furthermore, the increase of innocent
shootings of black people brought attention to Americans, the police, and even the President. These
shootings brought awareness and convinced others to put this serious issue to an end. Fifth, the
mobilization for action began from the community s desire for justice for what the policemen did to
many innocent black people. They started to intercede by creating protests and bringing awareness to
social media by using items such as hashtags. This showed in Michael Brown s case when people
began to organize protests called, No justice, no peace and hashtags, if they gun me down as seen on
Twitter (Complex News, 2014). People started to use social media as their source of movement by
revealing videos of the shootings and posts of the location of the protests. Lastly, the President could

Analysis Of The Poem If I Were Paul
Intercession: an interposing or pleading on behalf of another person. In Mark Jarman s poem, If I
Were Paul, the speaker displays many changes in tone and diction to illustrate the crux of his ideology.
The first three stanzas are completely exalting in their nature. The speaker uses three distinct
categories to do this: creation of a being, virtue of an idea, and discovery of an object, and each of the
first stanzas are devoted to one of these topics. Each of these subsets are purposefully selected to
create a tone of artistry and fascination in the beginning stanzas of the poem. Eventually, the speaker
changes tone to display the hypocrisy in the modern church. To a superficial reader, the speaker is
rebuking a congregation, but further analysis reveals the speaker is attempting to write as a
contemporary Paul of Tarsus, pointing out inconsistencies in the modern Christian faith. The first
stanza deals strictly with how you were made. The speaker uses eloquent, articulate verbiage to
express the imp1ressiveness of how you were made. The speaker begins by asking the reader to
consider the loving geometry and passionate symmetry with which he or she was created. This causes
the reader to consider who or what created him or her, and being that the title refers to a biblical
character, most would undoubtedly assume the creator to be God. The mention of God oftentimes is
connoted with concepts pure, holy, and righteous. Moreover, this would lead a person of

Freshman Year Disaster
Freshman year, I imagined that year to be amazing. I wanted it to just have an awesome flow but did

Analysis Of Green Is The New Red By Will Potter
Throughout his book, Green Is The New Red, Will Potter explores environmental activism and its
reception from American politicians, corporations, and administrations. Potter begins by sharing his
experience leafleting when the FBI unexpectedly threatened to put him on a domestic terrorist list if
he did not cooperate. His encounter with the FBI is frightening although by no means is it uncommon
if we consider the post 9/11 era that we live in. In this day and age, the elite will irrationally label non

Perkins Coie Biography
To Perkins Coie,

estates in Bordeaux as I returned to Paris to obtain positions in the court system of Paris and the

The Alamo Essay
The Alamo
To the people of Texas and all Americans in the World:
I shall never surrender or retreat ... I Am determined to sustain myself as long as possible and die like
a soldier who never forgets what it is due to his honor and that of his country VICTORY OR DEATH.
This was a letter sent by William Barret Travis during the siege of the Alamo on February 24, 1836. It
was a cry for help to anybody and everybody willing to listen.
It all started in 1830 with Stephen Austin, a leader of American pioneers in the wild, living in Texas,

In the fall of 1835 Santa Anna had sent more troops, under the leadership of his brother in law General
Martin Cos, to Texas in order to enforce the immigration laws. Austin and some soldiers had
surrounded settlements in Mexican territory and were considered by the government to be rebels.
Mexico had no choice but to attempt to use military forces.
Thirty thousand Texans were willing to fight against a nation of seven million. They did not receive
any government aid from the United States but sympathetic Southern states secretly sent troops.
The war began with battle of the Lexington of the Texas revolution taken place on October 2, 1835.
This little battle consisted of one hundred Mexican troops sent to Gonzales, a town east of San
Antonio, to order the settlers to surrender their only cannon. The soldiers said come and take it and
eventually they killed one Mexican soldier. The war had begun.

Tetanus Is An Infection Caused By Clostridium Tetani Bacteria
Tetanus

November 22, 2016
Tetanus Tetanus is an infection caused by the Clostridium tetani bacteria, also written C. tetani. The C.
tatani bacterium is gram positive and shaped like a slender rod, once it has developed a terminal spore
it may resemble a drumstick (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2015). The actual
bacteria are heat sensitive and cannot survive when there is oxygen present, the spores on the other
hand are very heat resistant and can survive the presence of oxygen (CDC, 2015). Cases of tetanus
continue to shrink in the United States and other developed countries thanks to the availability of the
tetanus vaccination; however, in underdeveloped countries tetanus is still a major problem. Tetanus
presents with various visible signs and symptoms which may vary based on the type of tetanus. The
type of tetanus will also determine the methods used to treat the infection.
Epidemiology
Tetanus can occur anywhere in the world. You will find occurrences of this infection more frequently
in hot, damp climates with highly populated areas (CDC, 2015). The spores of the C. tetani bacterium
are found in unassuming locations such as the soil in your garden, especially if treated with animal
manure, as well as the intestines and feces of many animals, such as your favorite cat or guinea pig
(CDC, 2015). The normal mode of transmission is

is that insurance companies will pay for standard screening with Nuchal Translucency, but they will
not pay for cell free DNA testing unless the standard screening comes back high risk, the patient is
advanced maternal age, or has a history of a previous birth affected by aneuploidy. Cell free DNA
testing includes X Y analysis, so the patient is able to find out the sex of the baby around 10 weeks.
This is becoming a popular request just to find out the gender. Insurance companies have now caught
on to this trend, and are refusing to pay for the X Y analysis of the cell free DNA test, which does
include specific abnormalities associated with X Y abnormalities. Medicaid will cover the standard
screening, but will not pay for cell free DNA testing. We have 3 patients at high risk and have done
prior authorizations through Medicaid, they still refuse to cover. One being a patient who tested high
risk for trisomy 21 on her standard screening, one who is advanced maternal age, and one who had a

As times goes on you, realize life isn t all it seems to be. You learn life lessons and certain life events
teach you things that can lead to you improving yourself as a person. As you realize most things in life
are provided to you, you never truly realize how much everything can mean. As teenagers most of us
are immature and do not realize how easy it is for us to lose everything we have. As we could lose
everything and anything in a matter of seconds if we are not careful.

The next week was a breeze and it comes down to the night before I had already packed all my stuff
that night I was told of the trip. Next morning I woke up bright and early ate breakfast and we headed
to the airport. The next few hours were mostly just traveling typical airplane food, only thing that was
interesting about the travel was the fact that during one of flights I was sat beside a drunk idiot and
then got moved up a few seats and got 3 seats all to myself! When we finally landed in Pakistan it did
not look anything different than in Canada. I thought oh well maybe it looks the same, and is the same
because personally I didn t know much about this place other than the fact I had family here. When we
got all our stuff and headed out in a car I noticed nothing different but that might have been due to the
fact I was kind of fatigued and the fact we were in a bigger city. On the travel to my cousins I fell
asleep, and didn t get woken up until we reached their house. When I got out of the car I was too tired
and was way to jetlagged to realize how different things were so I went straight into the house and
went back to bed.
I mostly slept for the whole first day. As I woke up by my family, they invited me to go out and try out

Religious Freedom in the Workplace
The United States is one of the most culturally and religiously diverse countries in the world. The
founding fathers of the United States wanted to ensure that its people would have the ability to
practice their religion with no threat of persecution. In order to accomplish the goal of religious
freedom and continue to ensure that all people of any religion would be free to practice their religion,
the United States passed Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that prohibits an employer from
discriminating based on the religious views of its employees. As the citizens of the United States
spend a large amount of time in their places of employment, religious practices that these employees
feel are necessary for the true observance of their religion must be accommodated by the employers.
This law contends that in cases where the accommodation of religious practices of its employees does
not create undue hardships, an employer must make reasonable accommodations for employees to
practices the beliefs of their religion. As the demographics of the United States continues to change
with more religiously diverse people immigrating to the country, employers are coming under more
pressure to ensure they are taking all possible precautions to accommodate the religious practices of
its employees. These precautions are important as the once an employee has established a bona fide
complaint of religious discrimination, the burden of proof then falls on the employer to prove they

The Work Of Louis Pasteur
In the midst of the Industrial Revolution, the son of leather tanners provided the clarity needed to
understand the behavior of microbes and applied this understanding to improve people s daily life.
This man, Louis Pasteur, succeeded in his medical investigations and continued to pursue his interest,
despite objections given to him by his peers. The timeless work of Louis Pasteur in the areas of
chemistry and microbiology provided the necessary foundation for the scientific study of immunology
and stressed the importance of possessing a thorough understanding of the procedures involved in
medical treatment.
Background
On December 27, 1822, Louis Pasteur was born to a family of leather tanners (Lamont, Cohn). As a
child, Pasteur showed no scientific potential whatsoever (Cohn). However, he did have a talent for art,
and it is possible that this particular interest could have influenced his appreciation for detail in his
later years (Lamont). Many of his teachers suggested that he follow in his father s footsteps. As time
progressed, Pasteur developed an interest in the field of science. Starting from this point in his life,
Pasteur demonstrated the characteristic of rising above his expectations. Even though he was the son
of a leather tanner, Pasteur did not give up and live a simple life. Through many strenuous years of
hard work supplemented with encouragement from his father, Pasteur began to study at the French
University. It is here, as Cohn notes, that Pasteur

Correcting Wrong Site Anesthesia Errors

Terresa L. Roulhac

Abstract
There are number of issues facing healthcare in the United States that are not exclusive to one area
and often occur during routine tasks. Although many of these issues are addressed on a daily basis, the
need to fix them is still important. Medical errors are a continuous problem seen nationwide in
hospitals and surgical centers. More exclusively wrong site peripheral nerve blocks have been seen in
hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers across the United States (Hudson, Sullivan, 2012). The first
section of the paper takes a look at a number of reasons why peripheral nerve block errors occur and
the risk factors associated with them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
See Figure 1 for a detailed example of the difference between popliteal and femoral nerve block
approaches.
There are a number of reasons why Medical errors occur and causes that can be addressed. Wrong site
anesthesia nerve blocks are preventable medical errors and the occurrences of these errors are a
concern for medical staff each day.
Because to Err is human, operating room staff members should have fail safe provisions in place in an
attempt to prevent wrong site nerve block errors from happening.
There are a number of potential causes of popliteal and femoral nerve block errors that can be broken
down into process factors and system factors. System factors focus on the lack of checklists, and the
exclusion of certain surgical teams members. Whereas, process factors focus on things like,
inadequate communication with team members or one patient having multiple procedures done.
(Mulloy Hughes, 2008) Table 1. Gives a more detail breakdown between system factors and process
factors that contribute to medical errors.
Benchmarking can be a successful tool to determine root causes and potential solutions to a problem.
Benchmarking allows for an organization to compare themselves to others in the same field and gauge
what works and hasn t work for others. (Suttle, n.d.) One tool that can

Deliquency And Juvenile Delinquency
Introduction
An estimated 70% of juveniles that are in the juvenile system have an elementary academic
achievement level, and have learning disabilities. [1]. Poor school performance, skipping school, and
dropping out at a young age are all connected to delinquency. There was an increase in the rates of
juvenile delinquency after dropping out from school [2]. Juveniles who go to school consistently and
have a strong academic performance, ideally go on to college and have a successful career and bright
future [1]. There seems to be a connection between academic performance and delinquency. It seems
that young people with a lower academic performance are more delinquent than young people with a
higher academic performance [3,4].

What is linking academic performance and delinquency together, and what kind of association do they
have with each other, is it negative or positive?
Studies suggest that improving educational performance and behavior will more than likely result in
positive outcomes. It also suggests that coming up with innovative educational strategies are the most
effective solution to improve delinquency and academic performance [2]. Educational programs
intended to address delinquency and poor academic performance that teaches self control and social
class, will probably be more successful in improving education outcomes for juvenile delinquents [2]
[7]. The purpose of this study is to find the link between academic performance and delinquency, and
find what kind of association they have with each other.
Methodology The participants for this study will include 200 juvenile delinquents that will be
recruited from juvenile detention centers in New York, through a process of stratified sampling.
Stratified sampling allows us to select participants from different areas of New York. To be eligible for
this study, participants have to meet these requirements, 1) ages 14 17; 2) In juvenile detention; 3) able
to speak and read in English. Participants were excluded from the study if they were, 1) Under the age
of 14; 2) Over the age of 17; 3) Not in juvenile

A tidal salt marsh is a community of plants and animals that thrive in wet saline conditions (ADBC,
2010), which rely on the tides to bring nutrients, such as oxygen, nitrogen, and phosphorous. As the
tide leaves the wetlands, pools are exposed which shorebirds can feed on larvae without competition
from fish that was impossible during the time period of water diversion and dam construction. The
land became baron; an area of waste land, until 1967, when the water originally diverted for irrigation
of fields, was redirected to the lowland area. In 2006, a tidal inlet was successfully opened after 107
years, allowing the tide to flow to various parts of the wetlands which had previously been closed off
(ADBC, 2010).
During the process of Bolsa Chica environmental change, much has been learned about ecosystem
destruction and restoration. Wetland areas are as Wright states among the most productive ecosystems
on earth, rich in breeding grounds for many species of fish, shellfish, and waterfowl (2008).
Interfering with the natural biogeochemical cycles can have devastating effects, completely wiping out
ecosystems. Lessons learned are valuable for other restoration projects, many of which are in progress
throughout the United States (U.S.). Major learning s included, the rise in water salinity when not

community, lack of tidal rhythm reduces

Teaching Students with Diverse Abilities
Teaching students whose first language is not English is often a challenging task. This essay will focus
on a few effective teaching and learning strategies for teaching business studies to second language
learners (ESL learners) in the context of the mainstream classroom.
Studies reveal that the negative effects of wrong beliefs about learning are significant (Sawir 2005).
However, it has also been suggested that it is possible to intervene in relation to beliefs about learning
(Sawir 2005). Hence a clear understanding of belief issues is of paramount importance for teachers.
Care should be taken to give speaking and listening skills the appropriate status and these should be
backed by comprehensive practical programs (Sawir 2005). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The guidance of an ESL mentor can help a teacher understand his/her ESL students quickly and
prevent possible problems later in the year (Mittica 2003). The ESL mentor can also provide training
on accommodations and alternate forms of assessment.
The ESL mentor can assist the teacher to set achievable goals for ESL students at the beginning of the
semester. In teaching ESL students, success is not always measured on a report card. Therefore,
teachers have to be guided to observe his/her ESL students closely by focusing on issues such as the
progress demonstrated by the student over time and by observing to see if the student is more
comfortable participating in class and asking questions (Mittica 2003). Above all, ESL mentors can
provide a vision of students as capable individuals for whom limited English proficiency does not
signify a lack of academic skills and does not represent an incurable situation (Walqui, 1999 in
Mittica, 2003). ESL mentors can guide mainstream teachers in discovering his/her students strengths
and to celebrate multicultural education (Mittica 2003). By fully involving mainstream classroom
teachers in the education of ESL students, these students will be more likely to achieve success and
adjust to their lives in a new country (Mittica 2003).

The Evil Eye Among The Azande
I. Introduction
This extended essay will involve a comparison of ethnographic material from two case studies, E. E.
Evans Pritchard s, Witchcraft, Oracles and Magic among the Azande (Oxford 1937) and V.
Chryssanthopoulou s article on The Evil Eye among the Greeks of Australia: Identity, Continuity and
Modernization , in J. C. B. Petropoulos (ed.), Greek Magic: Ancient, Medieval and Modern
(Routledge 2008, pp. 106 118). The aim of this comparison will be to illustrate two different

For example, when Pritchard paid the two different witchdoctors to teach his servant all their secrets,
when he acknowledges that the custom is that the teachings have to be strictly confidential to someone
who is particularly interested in proceeding his career as a witch doctor. In addition, woman s position
in the Zande society is a very briefly mentioned aspect when on the contrary, Chryssanthopoulou
being a female anthropologist, has a frequency to mention only claims of women about the Evil Eye.
However; it might be the case that men among the Azande are more involved with witchcraft than
women and respectively in reverse in the Castellorizian community. Also, Chryssanthopoulou is a
follower of the Greek Orthodox Church that as mentioned above, accepts the Evil Eye concept.
Finally, it should be mentioned that Evans Pritchard being a British studied the Azande when they
were under a great change because of the British rule, but again the topic is only briefly mentioned in
the ethnography.
Evans Pritchard s work Witchcraft, Oracles and Magic among the Azande was the first ethnography
that tried to understand the native s set of belief when in their own context and not through a
Westerner s eye. It was him that first criticized and disposed of the thought that there existed a

The Four Sources Of Moral Irrationality
When we think about moral obligations and their directional structure, this involves the obligations
that we have to other people. Obligations are owed to the benefactor (Timmons, 2015). This means
that a person is obligated to someone who tries to help another person in some way, shape or form. So,
let s say for example I promise you to walk your dog. Since I have promised you this I am not
fulfilling my promise because I told you I d walk your dog, or because I want to keep my promises to
you, but I fulfill my promise of walking your dog because you have the right to me walking your dog.
As we learned in our reading, you now own my action. You have the right to be angry or upset at me if
I fail to perform the act of walking your dog. You are able to demand me to perform that action. I
think the directionality has more to do with the relationship that is developed as a result of your
promising rather than how good the person you promised feels after you have performed the action.
Korsgaard says that humans naturally have the instinct to do what is right and not do what is wrong.
She goes on to explain the four conceptions for the sources of normativity of morality. I d like to go
over voluntarism and see how or if it aligns with moral obligation being directional in structure. The
first part discussed, is the that obligations derive from God. God is the relevant authority. It s saying, I
must act because God commands me to act. God, I believe, does not have anything

Effect Of Pop Size On Popcorn Size
Did the height of the popcorn kernel affect its calorie count?
Which brand of popcorn contains more calories based on the height of the kernel when popped?
The purpose of this experiment was to determine calorie count relative to kernel height. Furthermore,
this information can be used to inform healthy snack choices.
Food is important to our bodies, we need it to survive. The energy in it, known as calories gives us the
energy to go about our daily lives. When we eat food we need there to be a fair amount of calories in
that food. But sometimes we don t want all the calories, so we search for a small snack.

Once in the lab pop all of the popcorn, then take the five tallest kernels from each brand. (make sure to
have the necessary safety gear at hand)
Measure them, weigh them and record all the data.
Once the top five in each brand are found, keep them seperate so as not to lose them.
Prepare a burning station with a pipette, test tube, a cork with a pin to secure the kernel on, matches or
a lighter. Make sure to have pencil and paper nearby to record data.
Place one kernel from a brand on the pin, place it on gently so it doesn t break.
Record the starting temperature of the water in the test tube.
Then start recording the temperature of the water, light the kernel on fire.
Watch the temperature closely so as to spot the highest temperature.
Find the highest temperature, record it, and weigh the burnt kernel, record that too.
Obtain fresh water and prepare the next kernel.
Repeat this process for all five kernels from each respective brand.
After all the data was collected, calculations were made for the average height, average mass, and
each individual kernels calories. The data shows that popped kernels with an average height that is
over 20 mm have a larger average of calories than the kernels with an average height below 20 mm.
Orville with an average height of 15.8 mm was the control. The average number of calories yielded by
Orville was 264.2 cal/g. Compared to other brands this was a high standard.

The Never Ending Israel-Palestine Peace Talks Essay
The news of people dying and suffering, killings of women and children, and bombings by terrorists
and militaries, has undoubtedly grabbed the world s attention towards the Israel Palestine conflict.
While Palestinian children scream for their dead parents, the world s leaders and academics initiated a
frantic debate, trying hard to point out the real cause and viable solutions for the current situation. This
has led to many peace initiatives by the international community that were unfortunately a devastating
failure. This deadlock had left leaders and supporters of both sides blaming each other for their
stubbornness, in some cases elevating the unrest in Israel and Palestine (Reynolds). In this difficult
condition, it is hard for us to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first negotiation and agreement between Palestine and Israel was the Oslo Agreement in 1993. In
this agreement, Israel promised the Palestinians that they would withdraw from part of the Palestinian
land. The Oslo Agreement aimed on putting an end to decades of confrontation and conflict and
recognizing both sides have legitimate and political rights . Unfortunately, the agreement failed due to
lack of implementation and cooperation from both Israelis and Palestinians (Reynolds). Subsequently,
in the year 2000, Camp David was organized by Bill Clinton in his effort to address the final issues of
the Oslo Agreement which were boarders, Jerusalem and refugees. In this peace talk, the Palestinians
were represented by Arafat while the Israelis were represented by Barak. Arafat and Barak failed to
agree in the talk as the maximum Barak could offer was less than the minimum Arafat would accept
(Reynolds). Subsequent peace talks after Camp David also faced similar problems.
Israel s Perspective on the Issue. In order for us to comprehend why Israel is reluctant to fulfill
Palestine s demands in peace talks, it is essential that we observe the connection Israelis have with the
Palestinian land. According to Israel s history, the land of Palestine, or more specifically, Jerusalem,
originally belonged to the Jews. About 3,000 years ago, King David made Jerusalem the capital

The Importance Of Being Earnest Oscar Wilde Sodomy
In 1861 the death penalty for sodomy was abolished with a lesser sentence of two years for attempted
sodomy put in its place (Fordham.edu), although at this time lesbian relationships were not seen as a
crime and were sometimes tolerated by society. The fact that Homosexuality was not only frowned
upon but also illegal could allude to the idea that effeminacy , an alternative form of masculinity;
where a man displays traits that are often more associated with feminine gender roles, was seen as
unwholesome. In 1885 parliament would enact the Labouchere Amendment, a law that was put into
place that prohibited gross indecency between men and to prosecute said men when sodomy could not
be proven.
Ten years later acclaimed author of Dorian Gray and The Importance of Being Earnest Oscar Wilde,
was convicted on twelve counts of sodomy (history.com, 2017). At this time homosexuality was still
seen as a serious criminal offence and social taboo in Britain. Wilde was incarcerated for two years
moving from prison to prison carrying out hard labour, walking many hours on a treadmill. After
serving his sentence Wilde was exiled to France where he later died from meningitis. With the
enactment of the policing and crime act 2017 coming into force, Wilde and fifty thousand other men
were pardoned. The fact that a popular literary figure like Wilde was imprisoned in 1895 and then not
pardoned along with fifty thousand other men of his so called crime until 2017, shows how taboo a

  • 2. Racism In Teens The Power and Light District (PLD) of downtown Kansas City is the city s major entertainment center. The growth of PLD and the four other entertainment districts (Zona Rosa, Country Club Plaza, Westport, 18th and Vine Jazz District) resulted in greater choices for the community (AP, 2011); however, it additionally became a choice target for juvenile activity. Crowds of underage youths flocking to entertainment districts have been a problem for years in Kansas City. In the past, the prime destination was the Westport area near the Plaza, where the under 18 crowd sometimes topped 1,000. Law enforcement reported seeing children as young as 7 walking through the area well after midnight (AP, 2011). These youth were primarily Black which resulted in accusations of racism; however, the merchants responded by stating that race was not the issue, but these unruly youth were keeping paying customers away. There were recent numerous complaints in these areas of youth harassing and intimidating patrons in all entertainment districts. Mayor Sly James took these complaints seriously and sparked an investigation by initially visiting the Country Club Plaza. Nothing he saw in the first couple hours ... God is the Supreme Psychologist and His words provide the wisdom needed to avert and counteract the negative influences of this world. For centuries, Spiritual and Religious leaders have conceded that our vessel [body] can be codified by the actions of language, words, and thought forms; Scientific evidence now supports this and has proven that our DNA can be reprogrammed by words and frequencies (Fosar Bludorf, 2001, p. ... • 3. The Economic, Economic And Economic Value Of Biodiversity According to the National Geographic, a recent scientific study predicts that our planet is home to 8.7 million species; however, only about 1.2 million species are known (86 Percent of Earth s Species Still Unknown?). The National Wildlife Federation defines biodiversity as, the variety of life (What is Biodiversity?). It can be studied on a small scale, for example, species, or a larger scale such as genetics and ecology. In order to fully understand the biodiversity of a certain species, it s imperative to understand both their genes and environment, as well. Although many people do not recognize the various species within our ecosystem as important, they are the main reason life is sustainable. Biodiversity has extreme fundamental value to a healthy life and ecosystem. It is the framework upon which we rely for our needs and well being. It provides us with food resources, such as fruits and grains, as well as meat, fish, and milk products. Humans are dependent on biodiversity for cultural, economic and environmental stability. For example, farmers rely on bees to pollinate their crops, which allows for a greater supply of food and work. The economic value of biodiversity stems from its production of many everyday essentials such as food supplies, medicine, and raw materials. A healthy ecosystem can provide us with a source of clean water, fresh food, and clean air (Value of Biodiversity). A healthy ecosystem can also withstand disasters and recover sooner. These are ... • 4. Lord Of The Flies Individual Vs Society Analysis A frequent theme in literature is the conflict between the individual and society. In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, Piggy struggles the most out of all the boys with the society on the island. He is not used to surviving in the wilderness, hunting, and taking care of himself with no help from grown ups. He attempts many times to change the violent island society to the orderly society they had back home in England, but the others refuse listen. Piggy is dedicated to the ideals of order and civilization. He seems to fit in least of all on the island. When they first realize that they have crash landed on an island, Piggy can not believe that there are no grown ups, and asks, Aren t there any grownups at all? (8). He relies on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Piggy s struggle with the society on the island is shown in many ways throughout the book. He does not enjoy living out in the wilderness, hunting for food, or taking care of himself without the adults. He is constantly trying to remind everyone of the rules and order they once had. However, this is very important to the story. He keeps people calm, tries to enforce rules, and uses his intelligence to help out. Piggy is very smart, and he is only one who does not become bloodthirsty and cruel. His refusal to fall into savagery and violence like the other boys did shows that there is still good in the ... Harris Webster University Abstract All indications are that Operation Shady RAT (Remote Access Tool) started in 2006 although it went undetected for several years before begin discovered by analysts at McAfee Incorporated in 2011. Originally it was thought that the tools and techniques used during Operation Shady RAT were highly complex later investigations determined that the exploits used were previously identified and software vendors has published appropriate mitigation procedures to protect computers and networks from unauthorized access. The range of countries and businesses targeted during the operation highlights the importance of proper patching and vulnerability management policies. Operation Shady RAT differed from many other cybercrimes by not specifically targeting computer systems for financial gain; it appears that the perpetrators were after trade secrets and intellectual property. There are differing opinions on the severity and complexity methods used to compromise the computer systems by security vendors McAfee and Kaspersky but those whose information was accessed without proper authorization will attest to the significance of the compromises. There has been no attribution for the perpetrators of Operation RAT. A 2011 report by McAfee revealed a five year history of compromised computer systems that they deemed Operation Shady RAT . • 6. Examples Of Conflict In Remember The Titans An important conflict in the 2000 film, Remember the Titans directed by Boaz Yakin, is the dispute between football captains Gerry Bertier and Julius Campbell. The conflict is caused by a prejudice towards each other s race as Gerry is raised in a white, racist family while Julius is black and a victim of prejudice within the community.Because of this they are both repulsed at the thought of having to share a room with one another. This conflict is important because despite the discord Gerry and Julius experience throughout the film, they become best friends and work together to win the state championship. Their resulting friendship displays what can happen as a result of overcoming generational racism. At first, Gerry is disgusted at the thought of having to play in an integrated team saying, I don t want to play with any of these black animals . At the training camp, Gerry and Julius are forced to share rooms. In scene 6 we see a low shot of a racist poster Julius is hanging on his wall. This agitates Gerry. He also points out that Gerry is singling him out because he is black, Why don t you tell your white buddies to block for Rev cause they have not blocked for him and you know it! Nobody plays! There is a lack of soundtrack so the audience focuses on the conversation between Gerry and Julius. This,as well as the rain falling during the scene, also adds to the mood. This scene i shows how the conflict develops. The development of this conflict shows the audience that attitude reflects leadership. This is because if Gerry did not also consider the white kids accountable for the titan s success then he would have never gained Julius s ... Endangered Sophie Sparknotes Endangered The book Endangered is about the journey of survival and the connection between a young American girl (Sophie) and a bonobo monkey (Otto) in The Democratic Republic of the Congo. Sophie s mother lives in the Congo and runs a bonobo sanctuary. While on her way to the sanctuary to visit her mother for the summer, Sophie sees a man on the side of the road with a bonobo. She notices how malnourished and how bad the bonobo looks and against the rules of her mother, Sophie purchases the bonobo. When she reaches the sanctuary her mother is upset because even though she had good intentions of saving the bonobos life, bargaining with the man Sophie inadvertently promoted the illegal sale of the endangered bonobos. While at the sanctuary Sophie struggles to improve Otto s health and a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Democratic Republic of the Congo has had many conflicts. The people of the country are poor, but interest is shown in the country because of mining. When war did break out the rebels enslaved and took people to work in the mines. Also, with the status of the country, the bonobos are becoming more and more endangered. This is in part because of poverty. The bonobos are being poached and killed for their meat and people even use their body parts because of superstitions. On top of this, the bonobo s are also losing their habitat. With an increase in a growing population more land is demanded taking from the bonobos. Logging companies are pushing further and further leaving the bonobos at risk for losing their habitat. Overall I enjoyed the book. I understand that this story is fictional, but a lot of the references reflect real life in the Congo. Social Movement Research Paper To begin, the footage of the police s actions towards people like Michael Brown, Kajieme Powell, and many other cases reveal the need for the six factors to help develop and support a social movement. First, if they want to have a successful social movement they must obtain structural plausibility. Meaning, if they want to produce and sustain a social movement, then they should have a base or rights and equal freedoms obtained from our Founding Fathers. The structural plausibility is in The Bill of Rights as it gives Americans freedoms and rights equally. • 11. Analysis Of The Poem If I Were Paul Intercession: an interposing or pleading on behalf of another person. In Mark Jarman s poem, If I Were Paul, the speaker displays many changes in tone and diction to illustrate the crux of his ideology. The first three stanzas are completely exalting in their nature. The speaker uses three distinct categories to do this: creation of a being, virtue of an idea, and discovery of an object, and each of the first stanzas are devoted to one of these topics. Each of these subsets are purposefully selected to create a tone of artistry and fascination in the beginning stanzas of the poem. Eventually, the speaker changes tone to display the hypocrisy in the modern church. To a superficial reader, the speaker is rebuking a congregation, but further analysis reveals the speaker is attempting to write as a contemporary Paul of Tarsus, pointing out inconsistencies in the modern Christian faith. The first stanza deals strictly with how you were made. The speaker uses eloquent, articulate verbiage to express the imp1ressiveness of how you were made. The speaker begins by asking the reader to consider the loving geometry and passionate symmetry with which he or she was created. This causes the reader to consider who or what created him or her, and being that the title refers to a biblical character, most would undoubtedly assume the creator to be God. The mention of God oftentimes is connoted with concepts pure, holy, and righteous. Moreover, this would lead a person of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Champion Georgia Northwestern Technical College Introductory Microbiology Curtis Wright November 22, 2016 Tetanus Tetanus is an infection caused by the Clostridium tetani bacteria, also written C. tetani. The C. tatani bacterium is gram positive and shaped like a slender rod, once it has developed a terminal spore it may resemble a drumstick (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2015). The actual bacteria are heat sensitive and cannot survive when there is oxygen present, the spores on the other hand are very heat resistant and can survive the presence of oxygen (CDC, 2015). Cases of tetanus continue to shrink in the United States and other developed countries thanks to the availability of the tetanus vaccination; however, in underdeveloped countries tetanus is still a major problem. Tetanus presents with various visible signs and symptoms which may vary based on the type of tetanus. The type of tetanus will also determine the methods used to treat the infection. Epidemiology Tetanus can occur anywhere in the world. You will find occurrences of this infection more frequently in hot, damp climates with highly populated areas (CDC, 2015). The spores of the C. tetani bacterium are found in unassuming locations such as the soil in your garden, especially if treated with animal manure, as well as the intestines and feces of many animals, such as your favorite cat or guinea pig (CDC, 2015). There was an increase in the rates of juvenile delinquency after dropping out from school [2]. Juveniles who go to school consistently and have a strong academic performance, ideally go on to college and have a successful career and bright future [1]. There seems to be a connection between academic performance and delinquency. It seems that young people with a lower academic performance are more delinquent than young people with a higher academic performance [3,4]. Previous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What is linking academic performance and delinquency together, and what kind of association do they have with each other, is it negative or positive? Studies suggest that improving educational performance and behavior will more than likely result in positive outcomes. It also suggests that coming up with innovative educational strategies are the most effective solution to improve delinquency and academic performance [2]. Educational programs intended to address delinquency and poor academic performance that teaches self control and social class, will probably be more successful in improving education outcomes for juvenile delinquents [2] [7]. The purpose of this study is to find the link between academic performance and delinquency, and find what kind of association they have with each other. Methodology The participants for this study will include 200 juvenile delinquents that will be recruited from juvenile detention centers in New York, through a process of stratified sampling. Stratified sampling allows us to select participants from different areas of New York. To be eligible for this study, participants have to meet these requirements, 1) ages 14 17; 2) In juvenile detention; 3) able to speak and read in English. Participants were excluded from the study if they were, 1) Under the age of 14; 2) Over the age of 17; 3) Not in juvenile ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A tidal salt marsh is a community of plants and animals that thrive in wet saline conditions (ADBC, 2010), which rely on the tides to bring nutrients, such as oxygen, nitrogen, and phosphorous. As the tide leaves the wetlands, pools are exposed which shorebirds can feed on larvae without competition from fish that was impossible during the time period of water diversion and dam construction. The land became baron; an area of waste land, until 1967, when the water originally diverted for irrigation of fields, was redirected to the lowland area. In 2006, a tidal inlet was successfully opened after 107 years, allowing the tide to flow to various parts of the wetlands which had previously been closed off (ADBC, 2010). During the process of Bolsa Chica environmental change, much has been learned about ecosystem destruction and restoration. Wetland areas are as Wright states among the most productive ecosystems on earth, rich in breeding grounds for many species of fish, shellfish, and waterfowl (2008). Interfering with the natural biogeochemical cycles can have devastating effects, completely wiping out ecosystems. Lessons learned are valuable for other restoration projects, many of which are in progress throughout the United States (U.S.). Major learning s included, the rise in water salinity when not allowed to mix with fresh water creates a hostile environment, making it inhabitable by the resident community, lack of tidal rhythm reduces ... • 29. Teaching Students with Diverse Abilities Teaching students whose first language is not English is often a challenging task. This essay will focus on a few effective teaching and learning strategies for teaching business studies to second language learners (ESL learners) in the context of the mainstream classroom. Studies reveal that the negative effects of wrong beliefs about learning are significant (Sawir 2005). However, it has also been suggested that it is possible to intervene in relation to beliefs about learning (Sawir 2005). Hence a clear understanding of belief issues is of paramount importance for teachers. Care should be taken to give speaking and listening skills the appropriate status and these should be backed by comprehensive practical programs (Sawir 2005). ... The ESL mentor can also provide training on accommodations and alternate forms of assessment. The ESL mentor can assist the teacher to set achievable goals for ESL students at the beginning of the semester. In teaching ESL students, success is not always measured on a report card. Therefore, teachers have to be guided to observe his/her ESL students closely by focusing on issues such as the progress demonstrated by the student over time and by observing to see if the student is more comfortable participating in class and asking questions (Mittica 2003). Above all, ESL mentors can provide a vision of students as capable individuals for whom limited English proficiency does not signify a lack of academic skills and does not represent an incurable situation (Walqui, 1999 in Mittica, 2003). ESL mentors can guide mainstream teachers in discovering his/her students strengths and to celebrate multicultural education (Mittica 2003). By fully involving mainstream classroom teachers in the education of ESL students, these students will be more likely to achieve success and adjust to their lives in a new country (Mittica 2003). Lassiter And Katniss Comparison Imagine being put into an arena having to fight for your life within twelve districts, each district having two candidates having to fight for their lives only having one person to come out as the winner. Having been unwound by your parents because they feel like you have reached your peak in life, and that you cannot go any further within your life, or that you get into too much trouble and that they feel like your time has come. Between these two things they are pretty terrible to happen to one another and not being able to control you re on fate. Between these two comparisons you can have multiple setting and characters that you can compare. The relating characters Connor Lassiter and Katniss Everdeen vary between personalities and how they act, talk, and think. Connor is a rebellious and head strong 16 year old kid. • 31. The Evil Eye Among The Azande I. Introduction This extended essay will involve a comparison of ethnographic material from two case studies, E. E. Evans Pritchard s, Witchcraft, Oracles and Magic among the Azande (Oxford 1937) and V. Chryssanthopoulou s article on The Evil Eye among the Greeks of Australia: Identity, Continuity and Modernization , in J. C. B. Petropoulos (ed.), Greek Magic: Ancient, Medieval and Modern (Routledge 2008, pp. 106 118). For example, when Pritchard paid the two different witchdoctors to teach his servant all their secrets, when he acknowledges that the custom is that the teachings have to be strictly confidential to someone who is particularly interested in proceeding his career as a witch doctor. In addition, woman s position in the Zande society is a very briefly mentioned aspect when on the contrary, Chryssanthopoulou being a female anthropologist, has a frequency to mention only claims of women about the Evil Eye. However; it might be the case that men among the Azande are more involved with witchcraft than women and respectively in reverse in the Castellorizian community. Also, Chryssanthopoulou is a follower of the Greek Orthodox Church that as mentioned above, accepts the Evil Eye concept. Finally, it should be mentioned that Evans Pritchard being a British studied the Azande when they were under a great change because of the British rule, but again the topic is only briefly mentioned in the ethnography. Evans Pritchard s work Witchcraft, Oracles and Magic among the Azande was the first ethnography that tried to understand the native s set of belief when in their own context and not through a Westerner s eye. It was him that first criticized and disposed of the thought that there existed a particularly primitive, prelogical mentality. His point was to investigate the interrelationships of thought and ... • 32. The Four Sources Of Moral Irrationality When we think about moral obligations and their directional structure, this involves the obligations that we have to other people. Obligations are owed to the benefactor (Timmons, 2015). This means that a person is obligated to someone who tries to help another person in some way, shape or form. So, let s say for example I promise you to walk your dog. Since I have promised you this I am not fulfilling my promise because I told you I d walk your dog, or because I want to keep my promises to you, but I fulfill my promise of walking your dog because you have the right to me walking your dog. As we learned in our reading, you now own my action. You have the right to be angry or upset at me if I fail to perform the act of walking your dog. You are able to demand me to perform that action. I think the directionality has more to do with the relationship that is developed as a result of your promising rather than how good the person you promised feels after you have performed the action. Korsgaard says that humans naturally have the instinct to do what is right and not do what is wrong. She goes on to explain the four conceptions for the sources of normativity of morality. I d like to go over voluntarism and see how or if it aligns with moral obligation being directional in structure. The first part discussed, is the that obligations derive from God. God is the relevant authority. It s saying, I must act because God commands me to act. God, I believe, does not have anything ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Effect Of Pop Size On Popcorn Size Did the height of the popcorn kernel affect its calorie count? Which brand of popcorn contains more calories based on the height of the kernel when popped? The purpose of this experiment was to determine calorie count relative to kernel height. Furthermore, this information can be used to inform healthy snack choices. Food is important to our bodies, we need it to survive. The energy in it, known as calories gives us the energy to go about our daily lives. When we eat food we need there to be a fair amount of calories in that food. But sometimes we don t want all the calories, so we search for a small snack. Once in the lab pop all of the popcorn, then take the five tallest kernels from each brand. (make sure to have the necessary safety gear at hand) Measure them, weigh them and record all the data. Once the top five in each brand are found, keep them seperate so as not to lose them. Prepare a burning station with a pipette, test tube, a cork with a pin to secure the kernel on, matches or a lighter. After all the data was collected, calculations were made for the average height, average mass, and each individual kernels calories. The data shows that popped kernels with an average height that is over 20 mm have a larger average of calories than the kernels with an average height below 20 mm. Orville with an average height of 15.8 mm was the control. The average number of calories yielded by Orville was 264.2 cal/g. Compared to other brands this was a high standard. ... The Never Ending Israel-Palestine Peace Talks Essay The news of people dying and suffering, killings of women and children, and bombings by terrorists and militaries, has undoubtedly grabbed the world s attention towards the Israel Palestine conflict. While Palestinian children scream for their dead parents, the world s leaders and academics initiated a frantic debate, trying hard to point out the real cause and viable solutions for the current situation. This has led to many peace initiatives by the international community that were unfortunately a devastating failure. This deadlock had left leaders and supporters of both sides blaming each other for their stubbornness, in some cases elevating the unrest in Israel and Palestine (Reynolds). In this agreement, Israel promised the Palestinians that they would withdraw from part of the Palestinian land. The Oslo Agreement aimed on putting an end to decades of confrontation and conflict and recognizing both sides have legitimate and political rights . Unfortunately, the agreement failed due to lack of implementation and cooperation from both Israelis and Palestinians (Reynolds). Subsequently, in the year 2000, Camp David was organized by Bill Clinton in his effort to address the final issues of the Oslo Agreement which were boarders, Jerusalem and refugees. In this peace talk, the Palestinians were represented by Arafat while the Israelis were represented by Barak. Arafat and Barak failed to agree in the talk as the maximum Barak could offer was less than the minimum Arafat would accept (Reynolds). Subsequent peace talks after Camp David also faced similar problems. Israel s Perspective on the Issue. In order for us to comprehend why Israel is reluctant to fulfill Palestine s demands in peace talks, it is essential that we observe the connection Israelis have with the Palestinian land. • 35. The Importance Of Being Earnest Oscar Wilde Sodomy In 1861 the death penalty for sodomy was abolished with a lesser sentence of two years for attempted sodomy put in its place (Fordham.edu), although at this time lesbian relationships were not seen as a crime and were sometimes tolerated by society. The fact that Homosexuality was not only frowned upon but also illegal could allude to the idea that effeminacy , an alternative form of masculinity; where a man displays traits that are often more associated with feminine gender roles, was seen as unwholesome. In 1885 parliament would enact the Labouchere Amendment, a law that was put into place that prohibited gross indecency between men and to prosecute said men when sodomy could not be proven. Ten years later acclaimed author of Dorian Gray and The Importance of Being Earnest Oscar Wilde, was convicted on twelve counts of sodomy (history.com, 2017). At this time homosexuality was still seen as a serious criminal offence and social taboo in Britain. Wilde was incarcerated for two years moving from prison to prison carrying out hard labour, walking many hours on a treadmill. After serving his sentence Wilde was exiled to France where he later died from meningitis. With the enactment of the policing and crime act 2017 coming into force, Wilde and fifty thousand other men were pardoned. The fact that a popular literary figure like Wilde was imprisoned in 1895 and then not pardoned along with fifty thousand other men of his so called crime until 2017, shows how taboo a ... Abstract: The project focuses on the cost effective enhancement of enterprise network security via OpenFlow controlled switches and specialized SDN applications running on a controller. The project will investigate on securing the network from various attacks like ping attack, TCP SYN attack, Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS), DHCP attack. Different security measures will be discussed through which the user can establish a secured network. These security measures will be implemented over SDN. 3.) Objectives: The main objective of this project is to enhance the security of a network using various modern day technologies. 1) The enhancement in the security of the network will mitigate the attacks like Denial of Service attacks. 2) It will also help in controlling the data and control plane of the networking devices, which will enable more options to enhance the security. The project focusses on using the advantages and applications of the Software Defined Networking (SDN) technology. By implementing Security measures in SDN, one can develop a network that will be free from several network attacks like ping attack, TCP SYN attack, probing, Denial of Service, Distributed Denial of Service and several other scanning attacks. Another point to mention is that if an administrator had to implement all these security measures in a traditional network, he would have to configure all the networking equipment separately with the ...
