Women s Suffrage
Women s Suffrage
University of Phoenix Online
HIS/120 US History 1865 1945
November 2007 Women s Suffrage
Women s Suffrage is a subject that could easily be considered a black mark on the history of the
United States. The entire history of the right for women to vote takes many twists and turns but
eventually turned out alright. This paper will take a look at some of these twists and turns along with
some of the major figures involved in the suffrage movement.
Women s Suffrage Background
The first recorded instance in American history where a woman demanded the right to vote was in
1647. Margaret Brent, a property owner in Maryland wanted two votes in the newly formed colonial
assembly to represent her vote and the vote of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was not an easily won victory however. Congress first took up the issue in 1915 but the bill lost
in the voting and was shelved for almost three years. ( Women s Suffrage, 2007) On the eve of the
vote President Wilson made a widely publicized appeal for the passage of the bill and this time the bill
barely passed with the need two thirds majority. However, the bill failed to gain the necessary votes to
pass the Senate even with another of President Wilson s appeals for the passage of the bill. The bill
would be voted down twice over the following year before finally gaining enough votes to pass due to
Congress interest in having the issue solved prior to the presidential elections slated for 1920 and on
June 4, 1919 the Senate voted to pass the bill to add the amendment to the constitution securing
women s rights.
The effects of the 19th amendment on the United States can be seen everywhere. More women now
hold public office and the United States even has a woman running for the Democratic nomination for
president. The women s voting block is one politicians can not forget about and still have hopes of
being successful. The ability of women to vote, even though sparsely used until the 1980s, changed
how companies did business and what legislation was passed for respect of the potential voting power
of women. More women friendly policies exist, both in the workplace and in general life, which can
be attributed to the hard work

Faith and Doubt in the Poetry of Gerard Manley Hopkins Essay
Gerard Manley Hopkins had eight siblings and was born of Manley and Catherine Smith Hopkins. His
parents were Anglicans that followed the Catholic tradition in sacraments and papacy. By instilling the
theological values, faith and morals into Gerard, he became heavily influenced by his family. His
parents taught him, as well as their other children to love God. Gerard guaranteed his mother that he
would strengthen his connection with God and familiarize himself with the Scripture, so Gerard began
to read the New Testament at school. Manley, his father, was an officer of the laity and helped out at
the Church. He taught children at the Sunday school including his own son Gerard. Other relatives
influenced his faith, too. His uncle was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Gerard searched for an authoritative religion while he was in Oxford, he became captivated by
John Henry Newman. He saw the Newman converted from the Anglican Church to the Catholic
Church and that grabbed his attention. After understanding Newman s choice he himself also
converted to Catholicism in 1866. By 1888 Gerard had joined the Society of Jesus, which is a clergy
order founded by St. Ignatius of Loyola. The Society of Jesus Order concentrates mainly on
theological scholarship and spreading the values of faith. On his journey to become a Jesuit priest
Gerard gave up on poetry. He believed that expressing himself through poetry was being too original.
Hopkins did not want his love of poetry to draw attention. To prevent his personal goal from diverging
him from becoming a Jesuit priest, he sacrificed his passion and burned his early poems. Before I
became Catholic and I only thought about what it would be like, I had the habit of crossing myself
whenever I prayed. Whenever I saw the homeless man on my way home from school I would cross
myself, saying a prayer for him. My mother would usually interrupt. Eventually, she started teasing
me for it. It was not mean or unbearable just a little tease where she would ask me why I crossed
myself, just little things. This nitpicking was not so much of a problem for me. Another time at my
mom s Seventh Day Adventist Church people stared at me because I crossed myself. They did not

The Efficacy Of Group Exposure Therapy
Introduction to the Problem Given the high number of service members returning home with
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, PTSD, from Operation Iraqi Freedom, OIF and Operation Enduring
Freedom, OEF, it has been priority of the Military Health System and Veterans Affairs to identify and
implement effective treatment (This is the military, 2014). Exposure therapy is the practice of flooding
the client with images of their traumatic experience in an effort to desensitize them, and help control
and reduce their anxiety (DiMaurio, 2014). This essay will discuss the efficacy of group exposure
therapy when administered to patients with PTSD, specifically OIF and OEF veterans and service
members. The outcome in successful studies will result in a decrease in PTSD symptoms. The
applicability of the results and implementation of the treatment in alternate settings will also be
discussed. Literature Synthesis Participants Methodology Two studies analyzed the efficacy of group
based exposure therapy. Ready et al. (2012) held three groups of ten participants with primarily war
related induced PTSD. (Ready et al., 2012). Castillo et al. (2012) study treated 77 woman veterans
with primarily sexual abuse related PTSD. All patients were selected from local VA clinics in the
southern United States. DiMauro performed a meta analysis on 26 studies, with an average gruop size
of 5 participants, to determine the efficacy of exposure therapy in treating PTSD (DiMauro, 2014). All

(Karmiova, 2001) and is predictive of subsequent multiple organ failure, infection and than eventually
death in these patients. These conditions have many features common with sepsis. Blood
concentrations of various cytokines, soluble receptors and endotoxins increase within as early as 3
hours after cardiac arrest, the magnitude of these changes is associated with the outcome. Activation
of blood coagulation without adequate activation of endogenous fibrinolysis is an important
pathophysiological mechanism that may contribute to microcirculatory reperfusion disorders
(Böttiger, 1995). For patients that undergo CPR and achieve ROSC, their coagulation/anticoagulation
and fibrinolysis/antifibrinolsis systems are activated. Anticoagulant factors such as antithrombin,
protein S and protein C are decreased and this decrease is associated with transient increases in
endogenous activated protein C after resuscitation (Adrie,2005). The stress of total body oxygen debt
also affects adrenal production and function. Although patients have increased plasma cortisol levels
they have a relative adrenal insufficiency defined as failure to respond to corticotrophin. This failure
to respond causes the adrenal cortex to not be stimulated to secrete the hormones necessary to respond
to stress.

The Effects Of Climate Change On The United States
The Discordant Applications of the Common But Differentiated Responsibilities Doctrine as a
Hindrance to Climate Change Policy
Climate change looms large over our rapidly growing and continually changing world. No longer are
the adverse effects of this menacing global issue a mere ominous projections, they are starting to
become a very concrete reality. Countries are today experiencing rising sea levels, which compromises
coastal infrastructure, prolonged drought, squeezing food supply and agricultural productivity, as well
as extreme storms. Rising temperatures have already led to vast reductions in the size of the Arctic.
There is now no doubt amongst scientists that anthropogenic activity has been the primary catalyst to

Subsequent conferences of parties (COP) meetings have proved to bear little fruit, apart from the
Kyoto Protocol, signed in 1997, which remains the contractual international climate change regime.
However, even Kyoto was not ubiquitous, as it remains conspicuously unsigned by the US. Kyoto set
binding target levels for reduction of emissions for developed countries and instituted a scheme that
would lead to an eventual wider policy. Central to the Kyoto Protocol is the notion, which first
emerged out of the Rio Earth Summit of 1992, of common but differentiated responsibilities (CBDR),
which acknowledges the inherent differences between developed and developing countries in their
historical responsibilities as well as their respective abilities to combat climate change but calls for a
united global effort. The idea is that developed countries proportionally must assume more of the
emissions reduction burden as they are responsible for the historical contributions of CO2 to climate
change during their industrialization processes, as well as provide financial assistance and
technological transfers to developing countries. This tenant of CBDR has remained central to each
additional international climate negotiation, but has proved to be an unsuccessful governing

The Theory Of Assimilation And The American Dream
The theory of Assimilation was introduce in the article of Trucios Haynes and its basically talks about
immigrants coming to America and that they need to be force to give up on their own culture and
assimilate to the American culture. Throughout the reading, I have learned that the theory of
Assimilation has been present in this country for many years and how impactful it can still be. Since
America was built around immigrants, the first people who came in to this country has already
establish a certain life style and whoever would come after them, those immigrants are force to be like
the current W.A.S.P. Assimilation in essence is a concept that the first immigrant s created for forcing
other immigrants to adapt to their own culture and forget their own culture to be an American. If you
choose to not assimilate, then you will have a tougher time in gaining the benefits in living in this
country and chasing down the idea of the American Dream. The first article titled 50 Years Ago,
Immigration Changed in America talks about to deport the illegal and legal immigrants who came to
America. After they are deported, should we as a country build a wall to block people from Mexico
from coming to America Throughout the reading, the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 was
mention in giving us an example of how we treated immigrants. This law was based on the national
origin that heavily favored Western Europeans such as the Irish, Germans and the English. This law

Essay On Nacirema Culture
Cosmetics are a large part of the Nacirema culture, particularly for women. Cosmetics are geared
toward women so they can improve upon or even completely change their natural looks. Their goal is
often to make themselves fit the standard of beauty often shown in magazines, television or other
media.
Women are often expected to wear cosmetics as a way to enhance their appearance. This is because
appearance plays a large role in Nacirema culture. If you do not look a certain way, especially as a
female, you may be ostracized and condemned by others. Women are expected to make themselves
look attractive and presentable at all times, this is a double standard as the expectations are not the
same for men. While in a professional setting, both men and women are expected to dress formally,
but there is no push for men to enhance the features they were born with. Commercials for cosmetics
are aimed toward women, often regaling them with stories of how if they buy said product they will be
more successful in life, feel better about themselves or finally get the guy they ve been after.
This can tell us a lot about Nacirema beliefs. The biggest one being that women are, above ... Show

The Dynasty Of Chinese History Essay
The Six Dynasty period in Chinese historiography is often classified with moments of conflict, revolt,
strife, famine, disunity, and not innovation. Historians and academics categorize the period as a
placeholder between the more significant Han China 206 BCE to 220 CE and the Tang dynasty 618 to
907 CE. Understandably, Han China s military, infrastructure, and civil capabilities were rivalled only
by that of the Roman Empire, and even then, the Han dynasties administrative capabilities were
rivalled by none. The Tang period is widely considered to be the high point of Chinese culture and
civilization, where cosmopolitan China emerged with force vastly shaping China for centuries to
come. The significance of the Han and Tang dynasties is not in question, it is the lack of importance
that historians confer on the Six Dynasties period. Admittedly the Six Dynasty period in Chinese
history can be categorized as a warring period, in which China did not develop unilaterally, but
separately along fractured lines (split both north south, and east west). Much like the European
medieval period, there are few accessible sources from early medieval china, and because of this,
China s six dynasty period is brushed over as a period of little advancement and innovation. The Dark
Ages in Europe use to receive the same scholarly interpretation as a period of stagnation.

Descriptive Essay About My First Plane
As I scanned my boarding pass and walked down the tunnel hallway that led to the airplane, my heart
began to beat a little faster in my chest and my hands got clammy. I had never been outside of the
country before! After boarding the airplane, I sat down in my seat next to my dad, so ecstatic to finally
be on my way to Peru for my first mission trip! With the seat belt fastened snugly across my hips and
the cool air from the vents comfortably blowing on my face, I peered out the window as the plane took
off, my excitement growing as we rose up past the clouds into the clear blue sky. Although it felt like
any other normal flight, somehow I knew this one would be different.
Shortly after we took off and reached a higher elevation, I put my tray table down in preparation for
the meal and drinks that were being served by the flight attendants. Rolling their food and drink carts
in front of them, the flight attendants slowly made their way down the aisle. Finally, they reached my
row and I received my first international flight meal mozzarella cheese, basil, and tomato sandwich, a
square of cheesecake, and a small chocolate. As I was unwrapping my sandwich and getting ready to
enjoy my meal, totally captivated by the newness and the excitement of it all, the plane suddenly
experienced some unexpected turbulence. Nothing crazy at first, only a couple bumps that caused me
to hold on to the arm rests and grow a little nervous. But then it happened!
We dropped.

get to the Supreme Court?
The U.S. Constitution establishes the Supreme Court, which is authorized by it to hear original and
appellate cases. Original cases are heard only by and are sent directly to the Supreme Court. Appellate
cases are those cases which were heard by a lower court, decided on by the lower court, but an appeal
was requested so the Supreme Court could hear it. That request is a writ of certiorari. The Supreme

Data Warehouses and Data Marts: A Dynamic View By Joseph M. Firestone, Ph.D. White Paper No.
Three March 27, 1997
Patterns of Data Mart Development In the beginning, there were only the islands of information: the
operational data stores and legacy systems that needed enterprise wide integration; and the data
warehouse: the solution to the problem of integration of diverse and often redundant corporate
information assets. Data marts were not a part of the vision. Soon though, it was clear that the vision
was too sweeping. It is too difficult, too costly, too impolitic, and requires too long a development
period, for many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, its relation to the data warehouse turns the first pattern of development on its head. Here
multiple data marts are parents to the data warehouse, which evolves from them organically. The third
pattern of development attempts to synthesize and remove the conflict inherent in the first two. Here
data marts are seen as developing in parallel with the data warehouse. Both develop from islands of
information, but data marts don t have to wait for the data warehouse to be implemented. It is enough
that each data mart is guided by the enterprise data model developed for the data warehouse, and is
developed in a manner consistent with this data model. Then the data marts can be finished quickly,
and can be modified later when the enterprise data warehouse is finished. These three patterns of data
mart development have in common a viewpoint that does not explicitly consider the role of user
feedback in the development process. Each view assumes that the relationship between data
warehouses and data marts is relatively static. The data mart is a subset of the data warehouse, or the
data warehouse is an outgrowth of the data marts, or there is parallel development, with the data marts
guided by the data warehouse data model, and ultimately superseded by the data warehouse, which
provides a final answer to the islands of information problem. Whatever view is taken, the role of
users in the dynamics of data warehouse/data

Why I Want To Marry Cromwell
Cromwell was at the height of power, religious success and continued to have a tight hold on his
master King Henry VIII. After the death of Henry s third wife Jane Seymour, Cromwell advised a new
political marriage for the king. To pursue his own advantage and build Protestant connections in
Europe, Cromwell suggested the king take a German bride. This would also aid Cromwell against anti
Cromwell factions and nobilities, due to the potential bride being an outsider rather than English
noblewomen. Cromwell finally found success in the Duke of Cleves sister Anne. Henry, eager to
marry once again, sent his artist to paint her portrait, determined to have a beautiful wife. Henry
received her portrait and approved of the young Anne of Cleves, she soon set sail for England, an

Comparing Frankenstein And The Fairie Queene
Studying literature is in great part about analyzing the work. Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley gives the
power of literacy to the monster in her novel Frankenstein to humanize him as well as to equip him
with a moral compass which would have been difficult for him to pick up on otherwise. The treasure
of literature for Frankenstein s monster includes John Milton s Paradise Lost to bring into question the
role of the creator and creation as seen in God and man and Frankenstein and his seemingly horrific
figure, while the use of Edmund Spenser s The Fairie Queene could have been used to underline the
difference between right and wrong.
As a creation made of the parts of man in his image, Frankenstein s monster is an imperfect Adam.

In Book 3 of the epic, Milton highlights that God created Adam as, sufficient to have stood, but free to
fall (Norton 1989). God places the blame on Adam for the punishment of man. The monster reading
this literally, without analysis and who was also made in his creator s image then has no choice but to
assume that he is also being punished.
Shelley s humanization of the monster lies in his imperfection and makes the reader question just why
he has been cast aside by humanity. If the reader accepts the fall of man as punishment, for Adam and
Eve s mistake they can see that the monster s creation itself is not for him to be punished, but for
Frankenstein. The monster s understanding of his place because of his outward appearance is apparent
after he begins to compare himself to Adam who was created from the hands of God as a perfect

The Athabasca Tar Sands Has Caused Great Environmental Damage
The Athabasca tar sands are the 2nd largest tar sands in the world, covering an area over the size of the
state of Florida. The tar sands are estimated to have enough oil to produce 1.7 2.5 trillion barrels of oil
(Levant 4), and this large supply of oil has made Canada the #1 supplier of oil to America. The oil in
Athabasca is originally Bitumen, which has a thick texture, almost like peanut butter, and plasters sand
and minerals, which makes it very difficult to remove and produce. 80% of the oil is over 75 meters
underneath the surface (Riebeek), and can only be removed by depositing hot water into the mine so
that the oil can condense and be extracted. This process is not only very expensive, but also has
devastating environmental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These tailings ponds leak 67 litres of the toxic water into the Athabasca River every second (*2). This
has caused the levels of toxic hydrocarbons in the nearby lakes and rivers to become 2.5 23 times what
it was before the development (Cotter). The Athabasca river has also become extremely low, and the
Athabasca glacier has receded 1.5km since the tar sands expanded. The Alberta government is aware
of the growing water subject, and is trying to alleviate this impact by putting water limits and weekly
limits on how much water the oil companies can use (Alberta s Oil Sands 5). They are also attempting
to recycle the toxic water to moderate the environmental impact. Alberta Premier, Ed Stelmach, says,
There has been a lot of talk lately about whose targets are toughest, or whose plan is better. While
others are talking, Alberta is acting. Our climate change plan ensures environmental protection while
allowing for continued economic growth. It is practical and achievable (Alberta s Oil Sands 10).
Although the government is trying to lessen the water impact, they are quite late, and some of the
impacts are not possible to be fixed at this point. Another affect of the toxic water seeping into the
river is the impacts it has on the nearby First Nations communities. The First Nations people in Fort
Chipewyan are so concerned about the affects the are begin forced to consider leaving the town built

Cain And Abel Research Paper
Abel was killed by his older brother Cain. Genesis 4 shares the adult lives of brothers, Cain and Abel.
Cain and Abel were sons of Adam and Eve; however, Cain became very jealous and envious of his
younger brother, Abel. The motive of Cain s jealousy towards his brother, Abel, derived from Abel s
worship offering being accepted by God, their Creator. Abel s offering to God was from the yield of
the first fruit of his flock. Cain also provided a worship offering to God. Nonetheless, Cain s presented
offering wasn t acceptable. Hence, an envious spirit became birthed within Cain, and Cain murdered
his brother, Abel, because God accepted Abel s worship offering but didn t accept Cain s offering. God
became displeased with Cain and vowed that the ground would no longer yield its fruit towards Cain.
In other words, God is not honored with murder. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Women Should Not Have the Option of Artificial Fertilization
I don t believe that women should have the option of artificial fertilization because the
women can have emotionally harmful side effects. According to a study released by the Baird
commission in April about 2,900 women were enrolled in IVF programs n Canada in 1991
resulting in 189 births, while 3,400 used artificial insemination in fertility clinics, leading to 360
births. (Nichols 2) The fact that the success rate is that low is sad a woman could try and try to
get pregnant and go through so many treatments hoping at the same time that eventually they
could have a child but fail most of the time.
All 32 mature oocytes were injected. Seven zygotes showed normal fertilization (22%)
and one zygote showed pronuclear fertilization and 24 oocytes (75%) did not show any
sign of fertilization. Most of the embryos had poor morphology before the embryo
transfer, but there was at least one embryo available for transfer in each cycle....The forst
for IVF cycles did ot result in a pregnancy. In the fifth IVF circle two oocytes were
fertilized normally and one oocyte showed one pronuclear fertilization. (Francsovits, etat
2)
This piece of evidence is very demoralizing for a woman that is reaching out to their last option to
have a child of her own.
The second reason I thoroughly disagree to the option of artificial fertilization is because it
causes physically harmful problems for the woman going through this treatment. When blood and

Erectile Dysfunction In Young Men
Erectile dysfunction in young men has become a serious issue of concern as many young males are
suffering from this disease and the numbers are increasing on a daily basis. Primarily, erectile
dysfunction was associated with adult men who are above 60 years of age; however, research shows
that this disorder can occur in males at any age. But before taking a deeper look into the subject, let s
focus on what erectile dysfunction actually is.
Erectile dysfunction is simply the inability to sustain an erection of the male sexual organ at the time
of sexual intercourse. As a man, it is very crucial for every young male to experience healthy sex life,
and if due to any reasons this doesn t seem a possible, it can be a major reason for depression ... Show

Lifestyle choices: Most of the young men make unhealthy lifestyle choices and are prone to
developing bad habits like smoking or drinking. Even behavioral issues also affect sexual drive as
well. Not only does the consumption of illicit drugs and intoxicating substances like narcotics or
marijuana is also one of the major reasons behind erectile dysfunction in young men.
Erectile dysfunction is a serious problem that needs to be addressed with optimum care, or else it can
lead to several other health problems as well. This is why proper diagnosis and treatment of this
disease is truly important.
How to diagnose erectile dysfunction in young men?
Proper diagnosis of erectile dysfunction or ED is made by performing certain tests. There are mainly
three significant methods of diagnosis and they are as follows:
Getting to know of patient history: Doctors interview the men prior to the treatment to find certain
answers like
* Is it the lack of libido that s causing the dysfunction or its simply premature ejaculation?
* Whether the patient is suffering from any psychological disorder or any relationship issues or not?
* Patient medical

Prison Population In America Essay
How does prison population in America is different from others?
America nowadays is one of the most populated countries in the world and advanced in technology,
but sometimes bad things happen to good people and that s terrible, and something should be done
about it. When we send people to prison to being punish or correct their errors or prevent other things

Prison in America
America have a 4% of population in the world, and 25% incarcerated in the USA, it is the country
with highest incarceration rate in the world.

Correspondence
In America, and also in Mexico many institutions accept them to send letters when they can t go visit.
However, guidelines exist as to what constitutes acceptable mail, and these policies are strictly
enforced.
Mail sent to inmates in violation of prison policies can cost, and even lead to punishment.

Theoretical Reflection On The Gospel Of Mark
For our first theoretical reflection we were assigned to read the gospel of Mark. Taking on this reading
requires an opened mindset and concentration. Reading this passage was hard for me because when I
am in church listening to the gospel readings, I do admit to lack interest. I read the gospel of Mark to
myself first because it takes time for me to analyze and process the event that occurs in the reading.
After reading the gospel to myself I listened to the audio reading. Listening to the audio version of the
gospel helped me find a deeper meaning to the reading. This allowed me to be part of the reading as if
I am there during that time. While I was looking over the reading there were many factors that went
into understanding the reading. I reread certain parts because I did not understand what was occurring
during a certain event. If I had no knowledge of the gospel and what was happening, then reading this
would have been a lot tougher on me. Since I somewhat know the broad stories of the gospel from
growing up and attending mass on Sundays, it help me have a background going into the reading.
There are a lot of small details about which the events occurred and how people felt back in Jesus s
time. The ability for someone to retell the story of Jesus s life is extraordinary. Following the gospel
help me get a better understanding of what went on during this time and how people have evolved
throughout the years. The story being told of Jesus s life through the Bible is

A Summary Of Wilsonian Internationalism
Wilsonian Internationalism, also known as Liberal Internationalism, is a foreign policy ideology that
advocates for open communication between nations and solving international disputes using a strong
faith in the rule of law...and in the ability of dynamic democratic capitalism to spread prosperity to all
(Lecture A, Week 3). This ideology encouraged and reinforced a bond between countries to promote
peace, while still furthering economic success.
Woodrow Wilson was a strong proponent of justice and open understandings between countries, and
the term Wilsonian Internationalism was coined after this political and economic theory. In a speech to
Congress in 1917 called War Message , Wilson showcases his ideology after events in WWI forced
him to acknowledge the ever narrowing gap that was America s likelihood of staying out of the war. In
War Message , Wilson emphasizes that Germany endangers peace and understanding of the
international law which [should] be respected and observed upon the seas, where no nation had right
of dominion and where lay the free highways of the world (War Message, pp. 44). He argues that
when Germany sank ships that had no bearing to the war in the least, and breaking international law,
they were crafting a political world where democracy was not the foremost priority. Wilson used this
stance on Germany to propose entering the war on the grounds that threats to democracy to some, was
a threat to democracy of all, stating, the world must be

Archaeology Research Paper
Archaeology looks at the whole of human history and prehistory. It is widely accepted that this period
of time spans millions of years, which archaeologists have been able to interpret through the artifacts,
ecofacts, and features which humankind has left behind in their millions of years of evolution and
development. While it may seem like this view is far too broad to succinctly discuss the history of our
species, every year, which archaeologists have catalogued helps the rest of the world to understand not
just our past, but also our present and future. This long view of history is a relevant and useful way of
looking at our history through an archaeological lens because archaeology can tell us where we are
from, where we are going, and our cultural heritage. Through archaeology, we can see the origins of
our species and track where we have been and what we have done. The ability to track our own
species and its predecessors allows us to see, in fairly great detail, the spread and evolution of humans
around the globe. Through archaeology, it has been confirmed that humans originated in Africa, a fact
which has long been debated. Archaeologists can then track human movement ... Show more content

The Importance Of Journalism And Photography
Many events come and go before many citizens are aware of them. This is where journalism and
photography come to play. Journalism and photography allow for current events in other parts of the
world to be shown to the public for awareness. Some of these events such as the time during the Arab
Spring, where revolutions and protests broke out across the Middle East and North Africa, allowed for
citizens to get an idea of what is going on in that particular part of the country. A world without

The public whom are now informed through journalism and photography are often puzzled about the

The citizens of Bahrain assembled together protesting for a new democratic government. With

I graduated in 1966. As a woman, there were few choices available to us. Most of my classmates got
married and had children right out of school. Only a few wealthy girls were able to go to school, and
they were looking for guys with an upscale future. During my high school years, there were no teams
for girls to play in. In my Senior year they established the first girl s basketball team, but they did not

time. It was an endless series of men dying in a war that never seemed to end. People sat and ate their

getting killed and the funerals that followed. When a friend came home from Vietnam and was buried
the reality and horror of it became real. Times were different then. People called each other once a
week. There were party lines and you had to wait for your neighbor to get off the phone before you
could use it. People went to see each other and gathered around the kitchen table and actually
conversed about the events in their lives. If you had an emergency you had to find a pay phone or
hope someone with a kind heart would help you out of your problem. We sat and watched the first

1 transparent plastic shield
1 glass funnel with plastic tubes to let the funnel sink to the bottom of the beaker which stabilizes the

1 stopwatch
1 spatula
1 jar of sodium hydrogen carbonate
1 balance
1 hydrilla (a type of water plant)
Set up:
Closer look at the beaker: Method/Procedure:
1. Set up: Measure the amount of sodium hydrogen carbonate (2, 4, 6, 8, 10g) to be mixed with water
in the beaker. This is the only independent variable in this experiment.
2. Set up: Measure and pour 650ml of water into a beaker and mix it with sodium hydrogen carbonate
using a stirring rod until all the sodium hydrogen carbonate has dissolved into the water.
3. Set up: Place the beaker in front of a lamp covered with a transparent plastic shield.
4. Recording data: Measure the distance between the lamp and the beaker. It should be 70cm at all
times because it is a control variable. This cannot be changed because light intensity affects the rate of
photosynthesis. If the plant is too close to the lamp, the results would be most affect by light intensity
instead of carbon dioxide and the results would not be accurate. 5. Set up: Choose a hydrilla and put it
into a funnel with plastic tubes and cut the end of the hydrilla s stem to let bubble came out of the

John Stuart Mill s Argument
If we were to live in a society where John Stuart Mill s harm principle was the only normative basis
for law, we would live in a society in which racism, sexism, and other forms of oppression could never
be dealt away with, a society in which no business owner could be judicially discouraged from putting
up a sign that says, WHITES ONLY, or NO JEWS, outside of his or her business, and as a result, a
society that would be constantly teetering from one outbreak of genocidal violence to another. Perhaps
this might seem like an over dramatization, but the fact of the matter is, if the only purpose for which

Yet, it is important to realize the colossal differences that exist between hate speech and political
protest, or any other societal critique. Hate speech differs from all other discourse in that it can never
lead to anything productive for society, and the value of counter discourse can be judge as minimal.
The characteristics that are under attack in hate speech are immutable and innate to an individual, and
there is nothing that can, or should be, done to change them. Consequently, it is very well possible to
distinguish between hate speech and any other forms of speech. Of course, the slippery slope
argument can always be applied by fear mongers, who ask, Where will the line be drawn? If we stop
allowing the KKK to disseminate racist propaganda, then how can we continue to be a democratic
country? Nonetheless, if the slippery slope argument is indeed being invoked, then it is even becomes
easier to see how racist speech can lead to genocidal violence, and then the calculation that must be
made is the tradeoff between the stifling of democracy and a major loss of life. Definitely, on the other
hand, there will be individuals who say that this revision to the harm principle does not go far enough,
and that there is no clear answer to whether or not gladiator contests can be held in Yankee

Ralph Waldo Emerson s Ideology Of Self Identity
In the essay, Self Reliance, Ralph Waldo Emerson s ideology of self identity is impractical today
because the media has hindered society from developing our true identities. The use of social media is
ruining this generation s real life social skills. According to Social Media Today, an online community
for professionals, The amount of time people spend on social media is constantly increasing. Teens
now spend up to nine hours a day on social platforms, while 30% of all time spent online is now
allocated to social media interaction. Texting or online communications does not allow people to truly
express themselves for who they truly are. There is a loss of social and personal development
communicating through social media. For instance, people online are unable to use body language,
tone, voice and facial expressions through a text. An article on The Telegraph, pointed out that One in

according to research. The study also found that even when there is an opportunity to see people face

John F. Kennedy s Civil Rights Speech
Does everyone deserve civil rights? John F. Kennedy believed so during the Civil Rights Movement.
The Civil Right Movement began around 1950 and ended around 1970. A few of the major leaders
were Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, and John F. Kennedy. The purpose of the Civil Rights
Movement was to end discrimination and prejudice among whites and blacks. Many African
Americans did not have the same rights as Caucasians mainly due to their skin being a different color.
A famous speech delivered by John F. Kennedy was The Nation Faces a Moral Crisis Regarding Race

John Calvin s Influence On Society
John Calvin was born in Noyon, France on July 10th 1509. At fourteen he was sent to Paris to study

Assignment 6 In the United States and other countries, they have different fuels that people use in gas
or electric. People use these fuels for the cars, help get the house warm and people use warm water to
take a shower. The warm water using to wash clothes. Also, we use heat to dry our clothes in the
dryer. In this paper, I am going to write about primary sources of fuels and what the similarities and
difference in the fuel sources. Also, I am going how the fuel cause problems and the United States and
countries can stop pollution. Primary source comes from fossil fuels, heat, and transportation. The
other main source of primary source emissions is the electricity production industry. Electricity
production comes from fossil fuels. Electricity production is one of the primary use in the Greenhouse.
Electricity production also comes from natural gas. Transportation is also using fossil fuel. The

The main reasons for Global Warming is pollution. One of the main reason are pollution is fuels like
fossil fuel. To stop Global Warming the United States and other countries are not using fossil fuels and
other fuels that cause pollution. Those fuels are bad for peoples health. Also, another way is to get
more job in the industries, try to stop air pollution by carpooling. (http://www.ucsusa.org/) The best
thing to reduce emission is not to waste energy. People can use less heat. People use less gas. People
need to take a shorter shower because they do not want to use too much hot water because the hot
water heater is one largest electricity. Do not keep the refrigeration open too long. People need to use

Comparing Three Types Of Managers
2. Katzenbach and Kahn (2010) compare three types of managers in regard to motivation and pride
building (p. 79). This is similar to the Blake and Mouton Managerial Grid. What insights from these
categories of managers and the Grid can you use to motivate performance in yourself and others?
Katzenbach and Khan believe there are three categories of manager: a good manager, a people person
and a pride builder. A good manager is fair and rational working toward equality and efficiency. They
focus on the development of individuals with potential using formal development plans. A people
person is typically hands on and explains the reasoning behind their decision. This individual is easy
to work with and uses their connections to create development opportunities for their favorites. A
pride builder encourages staff to be actively involved in problem solving and empowers staff to pursue
ideas. They strive to get the personal best effort from every team member and are often a role model
for expected behaviors (2010). A good manager is focused on meeting metrics and mastering the
processes often using a standardized approach for all employees. A people person creates a happy and
social environment providing perks such as lunch and snacks. A pride builder realizes different
approaches are needed for different individuals and tailors the motivation and pride building to the
individual or specific groups. A pride builder is often called a master motivator as they understand the

How Is Miss Jean Brodie Corruption
Corruption is in the eye of the beholder. Miss Jean Brodie is not only corrupted herself but tries to
corrupt the learning and developing minds of her pupils. Miss Brodie s goal is to transform normal
schoolgirls into extarodinary women. She uses her personal experiences with love to develop their
love life early on, she betrays the school system which leads to her pupils betraying her, and she
pretends that the girls are different and unique but in reality she is shaping them into who she wants
them to become. Miss Jean Brodie corrupts her pupils in ways she does not realize. They are young
girls who look up to their teachers and take in all the information that they are taught. When they are

As the girls began to grow older they subconsciously learn how to betray each other. While Sandy
Stranger is trying to destroy the corrupted plan of Miss Brodie of Rose and Teddy Lloyd to become
intimate, she betrays not only Miss Brodie but Rose as well by becoming intimate with Teddy Lloyd
herself. Because [Miss Brodie] understands insight and instinct only in terms of her own experience,
her girls tend to turn into images of her (Dobie 329). Sandy does not know that she is betraying her
teacher but rather the believes she is following her. Sandy did everything by instinct, she even listened
to Miss Brodie as if she agreed with every word (Spark 117). Miss Brodie was oblivious to how she
was manipulating her pupils and corrupting their young minds. She was greatly taken aback and
suffered untimely, for a space, from a sense of having been betrayed (Spark 120). The girls betrayed
Miss Brodie the same way Miss Brodie betrayed the school system and the girls at a young age. She
strriped the girls of th eproper education which turn on her when she was betrayed by her most trusted

Antoine Lavoisier Research Paper
Why Lavoisier is famous:
Antoine Lavoisier revolutionized chemistry. He named the elements carbon, hydrogen and oxygen;
discovered oxygen s role in combustion and respiration; established that water is a compound of
hydrogen and oxygen; discovered that sulfur is an element, and helped continue the transformation of
chemistry from a qualitative science into a quantitative one. He created a new form of nomenclature
which is the skeleton of today s Periodic Table, and he famously proved the theory of phlogiston
incorrect and replaced it with the law of conservation of mass and his theory of oxygenation (Holmes,
introduction).

Women s Suffrage Women s Suffrage University of Phoenix Online HIS/120 US History 1865 1945 November 2007 Women s Suffrage Women s Suffrage is a subject that could easily be considered a black mark on the history of the United States. The entire history of the right for women to vote takes many twists and turns but eventually turned out alright. This paper will take a look at some of these twists and turns along with some of the major figures involved in the suffrage movement. This was not an easily won victory however. Congress first took up the issue in 1915 but the bill lost in the voting and was shelved for almost three years. ( Women s Suffrage, 2007) On the eve of the vote President Wilson made a widely publicized appeal for the passage of the bill and this time the bill barely passed with the need two thirds majority. However, the bill failed to gain the necessary votes to pass the Senate even with another of President Wilson s appeals for the passage of the bill. The bill would be voted down twice over the following year before finally gaining enough votes to pass due to Congress interest in having the issue solved prior to the presidential elections slated for 1920 and on June 4, 1919 the Senate voted to pass the bill to add the amendment to the constitution securing women s rights. The effects of the 19th amendment on the United States can be seen everywhere. More women now hold public office and the United States even has a woman running for the Democratic nomination for president. The women s voting block is one politicians can not forget about and still have hopes of being successful. The ability of women to vote, even though sparsely used until the 1980s, changed how companies did business and what legislation was passed for respect of the potential voting power of women. By 1888 Gerard had joined the Society of Jesus, which is a clergy order founded by St. Ignatius of Loyola. The Society of Jesus Order concentrates mainly on theological scholarship and spreading the values of faith. On his journey to become a Jesuit priest Gerard gave up on poetry. He believed that expressing himself through poetry was being too original. Hopkins did not want his love of poetry to draw attention. To prevent his personal goal from diverging him from becoming a Jesuit priest, he sacrificed his passion and burned his early poems. Before I became Catholic and I only thought about what it would be like, I had the habit of crossing myself whenever I prayed. Whenever I saw the homeless man on my way home from school I would cross myself, saying a prayer for him. My mother would usually interrupt. Eventually, she started teasing me for it. It was not mean or unbearable just a little tease where she would ask me why I crossed myself, just little things. This nitpicking was not so much of a problem for me. Exposure therapy is the practice of flooding the client with images of their traumatic experience in an effort to desensitize them, and help control and reduce their anxiety (DiMaurio, 2014). This essay will discuss the efficacy of group exposure therapy when administered to patients with PTSD, specifically OIF and OEF veterans and service members. The outcome in successful studies will result in a decrease in PTSD symptoms. The applicability of the results and implementation of the treatment in alternate settings will also be discussed. Literature Synthesis Participants Methodology Two studies analyzed the efficacy of group based exposure therapy. Ready et al. These conditions have many features common with sepsis. Blood concentrations of various cytokines, soluble receptors and endotoxins increase within as early as 3 hours after cardiac arrest, the magnitude of these changes is associated with the outcome. Activation of blood coagulation without adequate activation of endogenous fibrinolysis is an important pathophysiological mechanism that may contribute to microcirculatory reperfusion disorders (Böttiger, 1995). For patients that undergo CPR and achieve ROSC, their coagulation/anticoagulation and fibrinolysis/antifibrinolsis systems are activated. Anticoagulant factors such as antithrombin, protein S and protein C are decreased and this decrease is associated with transient increases in endogenous activated protein C after resuscitation (Adrie,2005). The stress of total body oxygen debt also affects adrenal production and function. Although patients have increased plasma cortisol levels they have a relative adrenal insufficiency defined as failure to respond to corticotrophin. This failure to respond causes the adrenal cortex to not be stimulated to secrete the hormones necessary to respond to stress. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Central to the Kyoto Protocol is the notion, which first emerged out of the Rio Earth Summit of 1992, of common but differentiated responsibilities (CBDR), which acknowledges the inherent differences between developed and developing countries in their historical responsibilities as well as their respective abilities to combat climate change but calls for a united global effort. The idea is that developed countries proportionally must assume more of the emissions reduction burden as they are responsible for the historical contributions of CO2 to climate change during their industrialization processes, as well as provide financial assistance and technological transfers to developing countries. Cosmetics are geared toward women so they can improve upon or even completely change their natural looks. This is because appearance plays a large role in Nacirema culture. If you do not look a certain way, especially as a female, you may be ostracized and condemned by others. Women are expected to make themselves look attractive and presentable at all times, this is a double standard as the expectations are not the same for men. • 13. The Dynasty Of Chinese History Essay The Six Dynasty period in Chinese historiography is often classified with moments of conflict, revolt, strife, famine, disunity, and not innovation. Historians and academics categorize the period as a placeholder between the more significant Han China 206 BCE to 220 CE and the Tang dynasty 618 to 907 CE. Understandably, Han China s military, infrastructure, and civil capabilities were rivalled only by that of the Roman Empire, and even then, the Han dynasties administrative capabilities were rivalled by none. The Tang period is widely considered to be the high point of Chinese culture and civilization, where cosmopolitan China emerged with force vastly shaping China for centuries to come. The significance of the Han and Tang dynasties is not in question, it is the lack of importance that historians confer on the Six Dynasties period. Admittedly the Six Dynasty period in Chinese history can be categorized as a warring period, in which China did not develop unilaterally, but separately along fractured lines (split both north south, and east west). Much like the European medieval period, there are few accessible sources from early medieval china, and because of this, China s six dynasty period is brushed over as a period of little advancement and innovation. The Dark Ages in Europe use to receive the same scholarly interpretation as a period of stagnation. Both develop from islands of information, but data marts don t have to wait for the data warehouse to be implemented. This has caused the levels of toxic hydrocarbons in the nearby lakes and rivers to become 2.5 23 times what it was before the development (Cotter). The Athabasca river has also become extremely low, and the Athabasca glacier has receded 1.5km since the tar sands expanded. The Alberta government is aware of the growing water subject, and is trying to alleviate this impact by putting water limits and weekly limits on how much water the oil companies can use (Alberta s Oil Sands 5). They are also attempting to recycle the toxic water to moderate the environmental impact. Alberta Premier, Ed Stelmach, says, There has been a lot of talk lately about whose targets are toughest, or whose plan is better. While others are talking, Alberta is acting. Our climate change plan ensures environmental protection while allowing for continued economic growth. It is practical and achievable (Alberta s Oil Sands 10). Although the government is trying to lessen the water impact, they are quite late, and some of the impacts are not possible to be fixed at this point. Cain and Abel were sons of Adam and Eve; however, Cain became very jealous and envious of his younger brother, Abel. The motive of Cain s jealousy towards his brother, Abel, derived from Abel s worship offering being accepted by God, their Creator. Abel s offering to God was from the yield of the first fruit of his flock. Cain also provided a worship offering to God. Nonetheless, Cain s presented offering wasn t acceptable. Hence, an envious spirit became birthed within Cain, and Cain murdered his brother, Abel, because God accepted Abel s worship offering but didn t accept Cain s offering. Women Should Not Have the Option of Artificial Fertilization I don t believe that women should have the option of artificial fertilization because the women can have emotionally harmful side effects. According to a study released by the Baird commission in April about 2,900 women were enrolled in IVF programs n Canada in 1991 resulting in 189 births, while 3,400 used artificial insemination in fertility clinics, leading to 360 births. (Nichols 2) The fact that the success rate is that low is sad a woman could try and try to get pregnant and go through so many treatments hoping at the same time that eventually they could have a child but fail most of the time. All 32 mature oocytes were injected. Seven zygotes showed normal fertilization (22%) and one zygote showed pronuclear fertilization and 24 oocytes (75%) did not show any sign of fertilization. Most of the embryos had poor morphology before the embryo transfer, but there was at least one embryo available for transfer in each cycle....The forst for IVF cycles did ot result in a pregnancy. In the fifth IVF circle two oocytes were fertilized normally and one oocyte showed one pronuclear fertilization. (Francsovits, etat 2) This piece of evidence is very demoralizing for a woman that is reaching out to their last option to have a child of her own. The second reason I thoroughly disagree to the option of artificial fertilization is because it causes physically harmful problems for the woman going through this treatment. When blood and urine

I read the gospel of Mark to myself first because it takes time for me to analyze and process the event that occurs in the reading. After reading the gospel to myself I listened to the audio reading. Listening to the audio version of the gospel helped me find a deeper meaning to the reading. This allowed me to be part of the reading as if I am there during that time. While I was looking over the reading there were many factors that went into understanding the reading. I reread certain parts because I did not understand what was occurring during a certain event. If I had no knowledge of the gospel and what was happening, then reading this would have been a lot tougher on me. Since I somewhat know the broad stories of the gospel from growing up and attending mass on Sundays, it help me have a background going into the reading. A Summary Of Wilsonian Internationalism Wilsonian Internationalism, also known as Liberal Internationalism, is a foreign policy ideology that advocates for open communication between nations and solving international disputes using a strong faith in the rule of law...and in the ability of dynamic democratic capitalism to spread prosperity to all (Lecture A, Week 3). This ideology encouraged and reinforced a bond between countries to promote peace, while still furthering economic success. Woodrow Wilson was a strong proponent of justice and open understandings between countries, and the term Wilsonian Internationalism was coined after this political and economic theory. In a speech to Congress in 1917 called War Message , Wilson showcases his ideology after events in WWI forced him to acknowledge the ever narrowing gap that was America s likelihood of staying out of the war. In War Message , Wilson emphasizes that Germany endangers peace and understanding of the international law which [should] be respected and observed upon the seas, where no nation had right of dominion and where lay the free highways of the world (War Message, pp. 44). He argues that when Germany sank ships that had no bearing to the war in the least, and breaking international law, they were crafting a political world where democracy was not the foremost priority. It is widely accepted that this period of time spans millions of years, which archaeologists have been able to interpret through the artifacts, ecofacts, and features which humankind has left behind in their millions of years of evolution and development. While it may seem like this view is far too broad to succinctly discuss the history of our species, every year, which archaeologists have catalogued helps the rest of the world to understand not just our past, but also our present and future. This long view of history is a relevant and useful way of looking at our history through an archaeological lens because archaeology can tell us where we are from, where we are going, and our cultural heritage. Through archaeology, we can see the origins of our species and track where we have been and what we have done. This is similar to the Blake and Mouton Managerial Grid. What insights from these categories of managers and the Grid can you use to motivate performance in yourself and others? Katzenbach and Khan believe there are three categories of manager: a good manager, a people person and a pride builder. A good manager is fair and rational working toward equality and efficiency. They focus on the development of individuals with potential using formal development plans. A people person is typically hands on and explains the reasoning behind their decision. This individual is easy to work with and uses their connections to create development opportunities for their favorites. A pride builder encourages staff to be actively involved in problem solving and empowers staff to pursue ideas. They strive to get the personal best effort from every team member and are often a role model for expected behaviors (2010). A good manager is focused on meeting metrics and mastering the processes often using a standardized approach for all employees. A people person creates a happy and social environment providing perks such as lunch and snacks. He named the elements carbon, hydrogen and oxygen; discovered oxygen s role in combustion and respiration; established that water is a compound of hydrogen and oxygen; discovered that sulfur is an element, and helped continue the transformation of chemistry from a qualitative science into a quantitative one.
