DEMO 1: Sensing Interference

 First step is to measure the spectrum
  occupancy
       500 Mhz – 2.5Ghz
       Large range
       Lots of networks to detect
       Low Power
 Needed to develop network detection
  algorithms
    Verification of algorithms
    Coupling with sensing engine

Demo 2: Avoiding interference

 Avoiding interference
    Detect bad channel conditions
    Avoid using “occupied” channels
       Single sided, non-cooperative
       Both parties can use their needed share of the bandwidth
 Demo
    Sensor and WiFi networks competing for spectrum

Minimizing interference

 We shouldn't waste resources
    Collaborating networks can decrease
     the usage of spectrum
    Communication between
       homogeneous technologies
           Optimize routes to minimize hop counts
           Minimize channel usage
       Heterogeneous networks
           Relay traffic to other networks
           Minimize channel usage

 Optimize the available resources
  over the boundaries of networks
  and devices

    We will demonstrate techniques which (will) all
     contribute to a higher spectral efficiency
 Road looks promising
    Refining, extending and, most of all, combining all
     techniques will further increase spectrum efficiency.

  • 3. DEMO 1: Sensing Interference  First step is to measure the spectrum occupancy   500 Mhz – 2.5Ghz   Large range   Lots of networks to detect   Low Power  Needed to develop network detection algorithms   Verification of algorithms   Coupling with sensing engine 3
  • 4. Demo 2: Avoiding interference  Avoiding interference   Detect bad channel conditions   Avoid using “occupied” channels   Single sided, non-cooperative   Both parties can use their needed share of the bandwidth  Demo   Sensor and WiFi networks competing for spectrum 4
  • 5. Minimizing interference  We shouldn't waste resources   Collaborating networks can decrease the usage of spectrum   Communication between   homogeneous technologies   Optimize routes to minimize hop counts   Minimize channel usage   Heterogeneous networks   Relay traffic to other networks   Minimize channel usage  Optimize the available resources over the boundaries of networks and devices 5
  • 6. Conclusions  First steps are taken   We will demonstrate techniques which (will) all contribute to a higher spectral efficiency  Road looks promising   Refining, extending and, most of all, combining all techniques will further increase spectrum efficiency. 6
