PERT charts are a method to visually represent and plan projects using nodes and arrows to connect activities. They show the sequence and relationships between activities. Creating a PERT chart involves identifying activities, estimating their time requirements, constructing the chart to map out relationships, and determining the critical path - the minimum sequence of activities needed to complete the project on time. Activities on the critical path have zero slack time while non-critical activities have slack time available without delaying the project. An example PERT chart for a manufacturing company's widget production process is provided.
